Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, I want to have a little sound off on
the Biden Award Show. Yeah, well, we're getting to that
time a year. It's the awards time of year. We
just was just add the Golden Globes. I don't do
award shows. No, I don't. I don't do the Golden Globes.
(00:36):
I don't do the Oscars, I don't do the SP's.
I don't do the Grammys. I mean way back in
the day. You know, I might have watched the MTV
Awards back when I was a kid, see Michael Jackson
or Madonna do something on stage. But anyway, neither here
nor there. We love handing out our awards. I was
(01:02):
reminded of something that Cato said, said, you rather have
people ask why I have no statue, then why I
have one. Oftentimes, many honorable people, you know, give the
heisman to various different accolades and awards that they're being
(01:26):
thrown around. So everybody was up in arms about the
Biden Award show, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I don't know.
They have two level of awards. There was the Liz
Cheney award that we made fun of, was it last week?
Was that Citizenship award? Then there's the Presidential Medal of
(01:46):
Freedom award. Yeah, that Medal Freedom award and a subway
token will get your ride on the subway when they
had tokens. They don't have tokens anymore. But anyway, when
you when you lower the bar, okay, it makes many
(02:07):
of these things quite frankly, meaningless, not consequential. Again, you know,
congratulations to everybody who got themselves some sort of political award.
Did you see the list? And I would say some
of the people on the list might be deserving, but
most of it was politics. And does anybody actually believe that?
(02:29):
Joe Biden said hmm, sat down and said, hmmm. Who
am I going to give this awards out to? There
was a reason behind each and every one of them,
but this permeates everything. Nobel Peace Prize, Nobel Peace Prize again.
(02:50):
Al Gore got a Nobel Peace Prize. Barack Obama got
a Nobel Peace Prize for doing.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Absolutely nothing, absolutely nothing. You got it in two thousand
and nine for doing nothing zip zero, zil Janana?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Who else? Yassir Arafat got one? Uh? Kofi and Ann
got well? I mean, come on, does anybody really pay
attention to these things anyway? And again this again you
lower the bar, you do it for everything. Yeah, I
we we argue back and forth about also with sports
(03:34):
here in the United States, with the Baseball Hall of Fame,
and there's certain players from my youth that I think
belong in the Hall of Fame. Don Mattingly do I
also think that yes, the people that were involved in
the performance enhancing drug scandal, should they be into Yeah, yeah,
(03:55):
yeah they should. But was it who got in a
few years ago? Harold Baines? Harold Baines. Again, I don't
know who makes these decisions or what. But again it's
not really important. You got to look to the again,
(04:15):
the people that don't have the awards, that don't have
the statues that are in our lives every single day,
whether it be that great teacher, that great coach, that
great entrepreneur within your community. You know, the guy that
you know that brings brings up your garbage, can when
(04:38):
you're not home. I mean, there's so many different ways that, again,
we can do things, but without having to see, without
the accolades that make someone you know, supposedly makes someone
wonderful and great, you look to it.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Again.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I don't watch the Golden Globes, but h I saw
that Demi Moore, and actress that happened to be a
fan of again been around for a long time, and
I can't believe she's ten years older than I am.
She looks younger than I mean. It's amazing. But the
end gave a very you know, nice speech, and sometimes
(05:16):
they're worthwhile. But anyway, we all know what these shows
are all about. Look at me, look at me, look
at me. Oftentimes I said, you know, look at who
these people think first and foremost. One of the interesting
things was sometimes the host of these programs. There was
(05:36):
Ricky Jervaise, you know, a few years ago, did the
Golden Globes and blew everybody away. I didn't watch it,
but I most certainly saw the clips of.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
What he did.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And actually I got a hand it to Nicky Glazier,
who was hosting hosting this year's And I'm not an
enormous fan of her comedy, It's again I'm not approved,
but it can get Some of our stand up backs
can be way too raaunchy. But she hit this bit
where it was funny. She had a list of people
(06:06):
who were thanked and at one point in time, you
know Mario Lopez. Mario Lopez got a shot out and
she said, God, the creator of the universe, had zero
at that point in time, which is interesting. Watch Dog
