Light at the End of the Tariff Tunnel??

Could Trump’s 25% tariff on foreign cars finally be on its way out? BMW CEO Oliver Zipse thinks so—and that has major implications for the global auto market, trade policy, and the U.S. economy.
In this episode, Chris Markowski breaks down:
-The surprising optimism from BMW’s leadership
-Why Zipse believes tariffs could end by July
-The economic signals suggesting a shift in U.S.–China trade relations
-Why it might finally be time to retire all those ridiculous economic metaphors
With whispers of a calmer, pro-growth trade policy emerging behind the scenes, is the second half of 2025 shaping up to be a turning point? www.watchdogonwallstreet.com

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it will have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Well, making fun of economic metaphors. But I got one
light at the end of the tunnel. Light on the
end of the light at the end of the tunnel.
When it comes to tariffs, could it be starting to
see things here and there? You know how they are?
Some of the ones was one of the ones that
Cuddlow likes. Cudlow, I think it was Goldilocks. Was he

(00:38):
also green shoots as well when it was talking about
the economy. But anyway, the head of BMW, Olifer Zipsy,
he seems to think that the tariffs on foreign cars
are going down. BMW reported profits for the first three

(01:00):
and three months, and well, again, you know, you take
them a look. Here he is saying he expects that
Trump's twenty five percent tariffs on the import of foreign
cars would be dropped by July. Now why would he

(01:21):
say that? Much easier thing to do is just to
expect the tariff's going to go on lower expectations and
beat them. So again, it seems like it must be
confident here. There must be some things happening behind the scenes,
and we're pulling this stuff off again. Economic metaphors in nature,

(01:46):
I've written about them in the past. Light at the
end of the tunnel. Well, we certainly hope that this
is the light at the end of the tunnel again.
Economy overheating, various different phrases that are used over the years,
all nonsensical, all nonsensical, But you know, quite frankly, we

(02:08):
can understand a little bit of hope. Maybe that's what
I'm getting at right here. And now you know, we
first had the thirty day reprieve, excuse me, ninety day reprieve.
Then we had the walk back when it comes to China,
I don't know where where's Navarro? Did Navarro go make

(02:29):
a s missake? Maybe he's losing out on this and
start getting chief executives excited about what's coming down the
pike and a little bit if that bodes well for
a good second half of twenty twenty five. Keeping my
fingers crossed here, Okay, no dumb ideas, no crazy tariffs,

(02:54):
let's just do business. Watchdog on wall street dot Com,
