But you had a story with great The actors are great.

to a certain type of person. I wouldn't recommend it

you know, we don't do a lot of like romantic
comedies or I don't even know if you are classify
this as a romantic comedy.

been begging for me to watch this movie. Whatever. This

I liked everyone in it, and I liked because this
is sort of you know, because it's a romance movie.
It it is always very likely that you'll get the like, hey,
we're having this conflict because we're not talking like normal
people could talk to each other, like you just don't

say a thing, and then it creates conflict. The movie
doesn't have any of that. The movie, which I appreciate,
it has no villains. There's nobody in it where you're like,
because this movie could have easily been Andre Hollins's character,
you like, indecisive piece of right, Like he's not he's

six years old. He's like literally our age, like he

is just a guy sort of at the crossroads of
like am I gonna be, you know, one type of guy?

They they do such a good job one that I
think the cinematography and the lighting looks great, like I
really do, and like lighting black people is an art
right to make black people look good without being washed

I just like that the characters are complex. Nobody is
one note. I like that they use drinking and smoking
weed as not just a thing that happens, but it is.
They're using it as like a mask for like him

adult movie for adults, not like an adult adult movie,

I miss movies like that. And to MICA's point, these
type of movies are fucking yeah, they're few and far between,
especially with black folks and it not being just living

took six years to make because it wasn't no drama,
it wasn't niggas doing just nigga shit in it, so

it couldn't get the funding for it. So it took
them like yeah, So he finally got the funding and
he was made, and Andre Holland was he was a
big part of getting it made. That's why he's in,
I assumed, and he called he called Roy Wood Junior
up to be in the movie also because they're both
from like Memphis or something like that.

Oh really, Oh I just assumed that maybe he was
from Brooklyn. It's okay, never mind. Yeah, I have yet
to see a movie that Andre Holland is or TV
show that he's been in that he hasn't been excellent,
to be honest. And this is the part where I
tell people go watch the Nick He's He's fucking credible.
That show he really is done by Steven Soderberg. Of course.

So the movie opens up where we're seeing the principal
character played by here Holland, Roger, who is just biking
through Brooklyn and this I assume this scene is brought
to you by realtors of Brooklyn, New York, because they
just make it look nice and reasonable. And that's just

kind of cool. And then he meets up. He meets
up with his friend played by Nicole Bajari Casey, who
is fine just the whole goddamn movie. And so, like,
what you kind of realize about them is like they've
had a relationship and that is kind of faded for

whatever reason. That becomes more apparent somewhat later on in
the movie. But they have this closeness to them, and
they're friends, but they have a closeness to them. And again,
this scene is shot like in this dark bar, and
it looks great. They look great. I wonder how this
male female relation ship is going to work out when
the man and the woman are attracted to one another.

Well, they have already been in a relationship, So what

How is the friendship going to work out? Well? Maybe
maybe sometimes one of them wanted Maybe sometimes you have
to go there to save the friendship.

Well, I think I think, you know, given the comma
between Love and Brooklyn, I think the movie is just
like from Brooklyn, Hey, this is this is a movie
that we're going to give you Love Brooklyn, right, like
a salutation.

And and I think the while the gentrification part is
an interesting aspect of it, Uh you know, I don't.
I don't think that's the movie they wanted to make,

goes is her being asked about the price.

I was wondering what I should get my wife or
her birthday. Let me shut my bitch ass up and

life up. And she's like, yeah, you should get her
flowers and something else. I'm sure you'll come up with something.
And she she realized that, like yeah, like even though

she was attracted to him, I mean, he was clearly
attracted to her, like he is a good dude, and
he he he almost fucked up, and she probably was
probably gonna let him suck it up.

But like she, I think she notices, like the conversation
before he says all that.

six years to be made because it was no there
was no serious fucking life, just super trauma all this

With this Secure work so well, that's why people loved Insecure,
because like Insecure was a little bit more dramatic, but
like that's it was just these situations they were younger also,

bunch of people yelling and screaming and hl I'm like,

Is this like just everybody just shut up, bring the

and I do like the fact that that scene is
just like she realizes what's going on. He realizes that

scene with Casey and Roger, Like Mikea's point, like in
a lesser movie this scene, he'd have gone out on
a date or they would have set and had coffee
and his wife would have driven up been like you
ain't shitg and it's throwing a coffee in his face
and all of sudden stuff and it's like oh, laughter ensues,

and then he's running down the street begging for forgiveness, right,
Like that's the type of shit that we're like the
scraps that were kind of given instead. It's a it's
a conversation between these two adult black folks and one
of them realizing, you know what, I love my wife
and I don't want to dude the show like this
and you know, and just moving on with his day. Yeah,

which I appreciate. Uh. Then we see Roger going back.
He goes back home. He literally comes in and knocks
shit off his desk and he's like, yo. He kind
of has that moment of like, I think I know
what I want to write right Like he's he's got
he's got that idea. And I think he needed that
separation from both of those women because their relationships were

all fucking crazy to.

Finally he found the center. He found the center, he worked.

daughter Ali uh and they're reading a book. Again, everything
in this movie matters because the book is about getting
friends and not being lonely, and yeah, Nicole asked her like, oh, like, oh,
do you feel lonely? And the daughter's like sometimes or no.

The daughter says, no, I don't feel lonely, Mom, because
because you're here. And it's like, yeah, but Mom feels
lonely because she doesn't have an adult companion right now
that she's I guess she's she's broken up with Roger.
I mean, that's that night pretty much proved that. Then
we see a scene where Casey goes back into the

gallery that white girl is still sitting at a standing desk.

Casey decides, it really bothers me. It's very weird. Casey decides,
you know what, this shit isn't working. And I have
been like kind of dedicating my life since graduate school
to trying to make this work. And I don't know

this is just not working. And so she's like, you

know what, I'm gonna go to the the other people
next door, the construction guys, and see you know what
they're trying to offer for this gallery, and like, best,
best of luck to you, fifty percent of white women

voiceover of like of the article itself, and look, I
think it's actually the way in which this is handled,

I think is pretty dope. This idea that like Brooklyn
isn't going away, it is changing and it is different
than the city that he grew up in, but the
heart of the city is still there, or you know,
the hardest city is still there, and it you know
that the magic that it had when he was growing
up may be gone, but there's a different type of magic,

right like that, Not that the city is evolving, which
is what they wanted him to write, which again I
think is offensive, and clearly that's what he also thought
it was offensive, but the fact that it is, it
is changing and not all not all that change is
necessarily bad, it is, but change is change, right like

there's still great things about it to appreciate. And then,
like every every man who's trying to get his shit together,
he decides to take a fitness and go for a run.
It looks like Andre Holland is not a runner, That's
what I assume, because he runs like irun, which is bad.

He runs like he has knees of a forty six
year old, which all makes sense to me. Um So,
while he's running through the park. You can tell by
the way that this this movie is really done on
a like we're just doing this movie. We're not we're
not fancying up shit, like this park has a bunch
of overgrown shit all over the fence, like they didn't like,

they didn't clean it up for the movie. Like this
is a real park in Brooklyn. They're not trying to
make it look any different, Like this is what it
looks like.

It's refreshing to see movies actually shot in places.

and Ali sees him first and she's waving and and
then you know, Nicole turns around and sees sees Roger
and she's like, oh, hey, Roger, how are you? And
he's like, you know, drunk, drunk my fitt and sh on,
you know, I was running and she was like, oh, sorry,
we interrupted you from your run. He was like, no, no, no,
it's fine. I suck it running and I hate it basically,

(01:41:30):
which agreed, and and so he's like, yeah, you know,
it's nice to see you. And you know, you know,
I was living my life, you know, but yeah, do
you all all have a good have a good day.
And then Ali tells her mom and she's like, she
asked if Roger can come with them to get some
ice cream, and Nicole asked him. She's like, oh, do

(01:41:51):
you do you want to stop your run and you
walk with us to get to get ice ice cream?
And she answers for him, which is an interesting moment,
right of like, oh, no, you're gonna be no, you
don't want to stop your run because he's selfish, right,
that's the person that he's been, So he wouldn't have
stopped doing the thing that he was doing to go
hang out with her. And instead he respondsed he was like, no,

(01:42:16):
I could walk, and so she feels like, oh, like
so he is willing to make time for me and
my daughter, and you know, it's a it's a subtle,
it's a subtle, you know, just one line statement. But
she smiles, and you know, he was like all right,
I think I might be, you know, back in uh.

(01:42:36):
And then they walked to get ice cream and then
he tells her, He tells Ali that there's bears in
the Brooklyn Park, which is ridiculous in a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:42:46):
Yeah, that's why there are a bunch of women in
the park, because there's a bunch of bears there.

Speaker 4 (01:42:50):
Yeah, and those women were totally safe. They were told.
