Speaker 1 (00:05):
My god, you know me. I love PTI, I love Cornheiser,
I love Will Bonn. It's the smartest, you know, GAB
program on TV has been for a long time. But
look at that headline. They're discussing right now our thunder
suddenly vulnerable. They lose one close game, great game, great

(00:28):
game to the San Antonio Spurs, Davy and the Cup
and are they suddenly vulnerable? It's just were you.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Watching though, because I would assume both of those guys
would be saying no, I hope so, but I don't know,
But that's I guess what you.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Have to hope that. That's just the producer going, hey,
let's stir this up. And he did. Yeah, Harsheet, You're
exactly right. Ben Leeber loves to stir it up. He
joins us via the Connectico Water Systems Hotline thanks to
our good friends at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Fresh
from his trip to Dallas, text, how did the how

(01:01):
was the weather down Dallas Way yesterday? It was chili
by Dallas standards, wasn't it?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:07):
It was freezing.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
I mean legit, I think it was well below thirty
two degrees when we were doing our pregame hit on
Sunday morning. We had to be outside the hotel, which
is very nice. That did it not make us go
to the stadium. I'm not kidding you. I think with
Windshill was probably in the team.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Well, you know what's funny about? What was the year? What?
What final four guards? You were you at where it
was awful?

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
No, super it was ice was an ice storm. It
was a mess.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
It was Packers Steelers when the Packers won with a
RAJ and they didn't know what to do.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
The roads were shut down. Were you there? I was there?
Why were you there? In the NFL?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
That's right, the NFL before they got smart and started
bringing guys like liber I was there and so I
was there to help out. Actually I was in charge
of ushering Roger Staubach around, that's right now.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I was like a VIP host. And you didn't get
anything about the hail Mary out of them. Did you know?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
We did a army navy though, if you recall, that's right, right, Yeah,
that's true. He thought it was a clean play. Yeah,
it was a clean play. But yeah, they did not
know what to do. People were sliding off the roads,
There were accidents, all over the place. It was not good,
but we were staying in Ben Lieber's favorite new town,
fort Worth, And I agree with Ben fort Worth on
the race outstanding. Yeah, the taste was at the fort

(02:24):
Worth Convention Center, right, and fort Worth is incredible.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Loved it and Lieber knows that now.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
Liber I've been there only one other time, and I
don't remember having as good of a time as I
had on Saturday night. It is, you know, the thing
is then it's so authentic, you know, I'm kind of
tired of the Nashville thing like that.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
It's become trendy once, but it's all.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
So phony and fake, and everybody's out there just like
it's like cosplay, like everybody's costume, you know, right, And
and it's the same. It's the same type of music
at every venue, different band, same cover music. So it's like, yes,
there's no originality anymore. But fort Worth is like what
Nashville used to be and it's awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yeah, that's pretty good. I lived in Dallas for five
years and I think I went to fort Worth twice. Well,
this is a long drive and it's a bit of
a drive to take a train. Yeah, I'm not but
I think it's also that's that was a long time ago,
so it's probably changed a lot since then. Speaking of
Hail Mary, this is a question out of nowhere, but
I want to try it on you because this is
we're coming up on. I think it's December twenty eight

(03:30):
to fiftieth anniversary of the Hail Mary play that Drew
Pearson push off blah blah blah. So we've talked about
it a lot over the years on this show. But
what's interesting to me now is, like Seaffert, Kevin Seaffert co.
Wrote a story that's already dropped on ESPN dot com,
talking to some of the principles, laying out the story

(03:52):
why it continues to be so mythic, et cetera. But
they also had one of their their referee experts and
breakdown you'll slow down and break down the play, and
the conclusion of that expert was there was no offensive
pass interference, that it wasn't even close, and to that
extent that the Vikings did not get screwed. I am

(04:13):
wondering if you've ever, like really tried to study Slow
Moll exactly what happened on that play.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
You know, I never have because I'm too obsessed with
the own past interference that I supposedly caused the championship.
I mean, I can't get over that nine timeline to
get back that far, to really break that down.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
That is a speed bump. That's a speed bump. Think
that's understandable, and there's some trauma there.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yeah, so I can't figure out what is past interference.
I know Bersage and I have always I mean, he'll
he'll say it even, you know, on air, like he
doesn't even know what it catches anymore. I'm with them.
I mean, you watch some games and some games or
catches or not, but no, I have never dissected that play.
I've seen it a couple of times. It looked like

(05:06):
it looked like offensive passer interference to me, but I've
never taken it frame by frame.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, I'll be curious to have you, as a ball guy,
take a look at it and break it down at
some point in the future. What did you like the
most of the Vikings performance over victory over Dallas last night?

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Boy?

Speaker 4 (05:29):
You know, team win. I mean, I'll probably just say, like,
I think all three phases played played well. I don't
you know, our kick coverages was less than desirable. I
mean Turpin had a bunch of big returns. I mean
had three returns I think at one hundred and four
yards combined, and that was just in the third quarter alone.
So I didn't love that aspect. But Ryan Wright was phenomenal.

(05:52):
Record was phenomenal, you know. I think the the ability
to again mix in some of the runs and and
keep their defense on their heels a little bit, I
thought was super important. And I think we all have
kind of broken down how well McCarthy played. And you know,
obviously there's good missthrows everyone, right, I mean, back had

(06:12):
some misthrows and he's a high ender, so I don't
want to look at it completely under a microscope and
tear every every path down. I just I thought he
looked really good, and I thought that he's done a
really good job from the mental aspect of it, where
everybody is putting so much weight on every single play
and he goes out there and just does this thing.

(06:33):
So I really appreciate that. And you know, the defense,
you know, gave up some yards, we all know that,
but at the end of the day, they held him
out of the end zone a bunch. Then they put
a cap over the defense with it. There wasn't a
lot of big explosive plays, which is something they really
really rely upon, and you could tell it frustrated them
with the amount of blitzes and pressures and really just

(06:55):
not understanding where bflow was going to attack from.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Let's get to speaking of J. A. J. McCarthy, our
second Vikings talking point, his gritty dance into the end
zone around left end.

Speaker 7 (07:09):
Don't be afraid to take a time out right still,
it's still the first half. This is a very very
important play, So get it right, you get the line
of scrimmage, and don't hurry it up.

Speaker 8 (07:18):
Blake Brandle checks in so the Vikings have an extra
offensive lineman. He'll beat to the left of left tackle
Justin Scholl. Two in the backfield, Mason and ham Portman
goal from the one. McCarthy under center snap, Mason handoff.
Oh no, McCarthy keeps it beautifully and foctors into the
end zone for a Vikings touchdown. J. J. McCarthy with

(07:43):
his third rushing touchdown, and that baked out everybody at
AT and T Stadium, including the announcer.

Speaker 7 (07:50):
Fourteen thirteen Dallas and they ran it to Maris Maris
leol Fu side the rookie linebacker who was crashing down,
and he would have thought he made a play in
the backfield. He thought he tackled Jeorge Mason in the backfield.
We all thought he talked tackled Jeorge Mason in the backfield.
But JJ McCarthy, what a sweet play fan.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
The mechanics on that particular one I did. I thought
that was artistry. That was as good a fake as
I've seen in a long time.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yeah, that was.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
It was a smooth criminal there right. I mean, that
was kind of nice how he played that thing off nonchalantly. Yep,
as his kid liked to do everything nonchalant these days,
and that was that was perfect. And you know, again
as Pa was setting up that play, it really is
about the place setup as much as it is about
the execution after the ball snapped. I mean, if I'm

(08:41):
a defensive player and you know they're holding up, I
don't know, they're probably flexing from the sidelines. Stand they're
jumbo twenty two. You know you've got you've got two
tight ends. You have a full back in there, you
bring in the big, bruising running back, and you bring
in alignment. I mean, that's that's Jumbo twenty two personnel,
and you were all thinking, mentally, I got to get downhill,

(09:02):
I got to attack these gaps. As defensive lineman, I've
got to, you know, hit it hard and hit it fast.
If you're a linebacker, a second level player, and you're
going to probably screwed up so close to the lion
screaming that you're just going to create a wall there
to not let anything in. And then as as Pete
was saying, they've got the n man lion scrimmage just
crashing down and he tackles Gordon Matson. I mean, it

(09:23):
was the setup that led into the mentality of everybody
just in attack mode, and you know there's non Chelant
McCarthy just holding the ball at his hip and he
just kind of rolls around and had one of the
easiest touchdowns he's probably ever going to have in his career.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Let me ask you, a Christian Darris saw what related question.
I got into this a little bit with Krazinsky earlier.
So do you believe is there is there a story
behind the story on him that we're going to have
to try to learn in the off season where there
might be some frustration, either on the part of the

(09:57):
player or the team about how this is gone or
is this going to ultimately be revealed as just a
simple case of he hasn't recovered from a significant surgery
as seamlessly and as quickly as everybody projected that he would.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
You know, I'm hoping that it's just you know, the
latter where it's more just you know, he's gotten dinged
up a couple times now. Obviously he's got the knee.
But you know, when when I was listening all week
to some of the Cowboys podcasts, you know, they're talking
about Trayvon Diggs and all this stuff, and it's not

(10:36):
about his injury, and you know, they're all worried that
what this all means, and a lot of people just
think that he's done and he doesn't want to be
a part of the team anymore, and vice versas the
team doesn't want him around.

Speaker 9 (10:45):
It.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
It seems like it's all it seems like it's personal,
not professional. I don't ever want to think that that's
the case here. I really do think that it's probably
injury related, and you know, there's probably hopefully there's nothing
more than that. And you know, I guess we've got
three more weeks to kind of see how the duft settles.
But I don't like the way it's kind of percolating

(11:06):
right now. But I'm choosing to believe that there's nothing
more to it.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Texture wants to know if you could help break down
that illegal formation penalty that nullified Jefferson's would be touchdown.
He writes, my wife was asking about the penalty. I
found I couldn't explain it. I'm familiar with two minute
motion that kind of thing, but I wasn't sure why
that penalty was called.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (11:28):
What do you what? Can you explain it for me?

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Well, the way I understand it is, so we had
Jordan Mason split out to the far left side, and
he's basically the X receiver and with Josh Oliver on
the end line where he's supposed to be out of
a tight end. He's an eligible player with an eligible number,
and if he needs to remain eligible, then that outside

(11:51):
player cannot quote unquote cover him up by being on
the line of scrimmage. And that's why he's supposed to
be a step or two off to keep him eligible,
and he didn't. Jordan was right snugged up on the
line of scrimmage. He had an opportunity to take a
step back before the ball was snapped.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
He didn't.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
The ball snaps and that's why you have the illegal
legal formation.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Here's another interesting text for you to play off of
or riff on perhaps or perhaps dismiss. This is from six'
five to. One guy O'Connell was over coaching a perfectionist.
Personality i'm glad he figured it. Out while he may
not have done some psychological, damage this kid has some
serious metal strength to deal to have to deal or

(12:31):
to have dealt with all of the crap that's been
thrown his way thus. Far what do you make of?

Speaker 4 (12:37):
That, WELL i mean there's a lot of a different
analogy to all. THIS i don't BELIEVE i mean what
the email are. SAYING i don't believe that we've all had.
Something we've all had something in our lives that's like
shiny and new and. Exciting, right whether it's a new golf,
driver a new, car what do you? Do what do

(12:57):
you do when you get that fun new?

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Thing you push it to.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
The, Limits like you ever get a you ever get
a rental car that's like better than the car that
you have at, home you give her. HELL i, mean
you drive it like a rental and you see what
it's got and you want to push its limits and
you want to have fun with, it and then you, realize,
like oh, MAN i got to kind of throttle this
back and kind of figure this thing. Out same thing
LIKE i got a new. GOLFER i think that sucker

(13:22):
out And i'm hitting driver every single time because it's
going to go further and faster And i'm going to
be a better golfer because of. It AND i don't
realize THAT i got to tweak my swing to make
this thing. Work and it takes me multiple rounds of
golf to figure that out BECAUSE i just force it
BECAUSE i got a pretty shiny new. DRIVER i think
it's kind of similar to what we've got going on.

(13:43):
Here we've got a young kid that shows a lot
of talents with a lot of cool, tools and you
want to use all those tools because he's been showing
you that in. Practice he's been showing you that in controlled.
Environments but then when you take it out on the
streets and you're letting it, fly it's just not responding
the way that you. WANT i mean it's been it
was six, games six games until we decided, that, like oh,

(14:06):
yeah maybe we got to throttle back on this a little,
bit maybe we got to adjust some things here. THERE
i think that is an extremely small sample. Size so,
LIKE i don't think that there is any sort of you,
know over coaching done or it was malpractice the way
they've handled. Him, no you're trying to see what a
player can do and you got to make some. Adjustment

(14:26):
SO i think this is perfectly fine with the timeline
that we're. Given Hops splash player of the, Game hopsplash
player of the, Game i'm gonna Go Will. FRIES i
thought that of everybody on the offensive, line he played
the best school actually had a you, know kind of

(14:48):
an impressive game considering the situation with the defensive. Line
BUT i would say that both run and, Pass Will
fries was. Physical he was, quick showed great. FOOTWORK i
don't know if he gave up much penetration if, any
in the past in the pass rush. Game now it
might all be egg on my face when the people

(15:10):
AT pff come, out you know tomorrow right and say
that you know where he. Created but based on WHAT i,
SAW i thought he was awfully. IMPRESSIVE i mean you
watch you watch THIS Cj ham? Touchdown, YEAH i mean
without his. Block it was a little combo block that
he had there With Ryan, Kelly and if he doesn't
hit that guy and smash him down and wash him,
down there's no place for him to. Run so even

(15:32):
on critical, plays he was pretty.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Impactful you, know a lot of this the rest of the,
season now that the team has been you, know was
mathematically eliminated before the game is about evaluating various, positions
starting with the quarterback spot and looking for signs of.
Progress but there are other places where one assumes that's, ongoing,
RIGHT i mean it almost has to be for you
as a defensive, stalwart how are you looking? At what

(15:57):
are you going to be paying attention to defensively the
rest of the, way involving perhaps a player or two
that you, know maybe it's not automatic that they're going
to be here again next, year or it's a position
where you'd like to see. Improvement where are you look
Where's Ben leeber's eye moving the rest of the. Season
on the defensive side.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Of, things secondary, TACKLING i think it's been an issue
for us all season. LONG i think it's been an,
issue whether we're in the playoff hunt or as of
recently we're. NOT i think before going into this game
we were seventh. Worst how AM i going to? Say

(16:37):
we had the seventh most mistackles as a, defense AND
i think a lot a lot of, THAT a large
part of it was our back end Secondary it hasn't been.
Good it's not they're not sure. Tacklers there's a lot of,
shouldering there's not a lot of wrapping, up and AND
i know individually there have been some players that that

(16:58):
they we know that they can, tackle we know that
they can hit through the ball. Carrier we've seen. IT i,
MEAN i Mean Isaiah rogers has knocked himself out in
The philadelphia came down with such, Tenacity so we know
that the guys can do. It But i've also seen
a lot of plays where guys are turning down some
hits and even just turning down some sure. Tackles so
everybody kind of gets in self preservation, mode whether they

(17:20):
want to admit it or, not especially in the last
two games of the. Season so we'll see if that.
HAPPENS i, mean we're kind of a bad tackling. Team
let's see if that's a or if it gets.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Worse that's a sneaky good take THAT i don't think
probably people pay enough attention to the tackling part of
it has been very problematic for much of this, season
even if you know the overall. Number sometimes defensively you
see where they've kind of held in Hung, In, okay
given for a period of games they didn't get anything
on the offensive side of the. Ball BUT i think

(17:50):
that's a very very good, point especially as it pertains
to the. Secondary is it possible or perhaps now ordering
on the, probable that the current kicker of The Minnesota
vikings is going to be the best place kicker In vikings.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
HISTORY i, mean you, KNOW i don't know where he's,
at you, know on the all time, list but, boy
where he's, TRENDING i don't see why he couldn't be
one of the. BEST i, mean he, is he is,
automatic and he's got a great. Leg there's tremendous chemistry
with all three of those, guys and you, KNOW i don't,

(18:26):
KNOW i, mean they could make the case that they
might be the three the three best in the entire.
League when it comes to that that three person battery.
There so, YEAH i don't. Know i'd like to hear
an argument as to say why he couldn't be one
of the, best BECAUSE i don't see why he. Couldn't you, know.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
You were busy last. NIGHT i don't know how many
other games you were able to, see But i'm curious
to get your view on the return Of Philip rivers
to the quarterback position for the first TIME i think
in five. YEARS i didn't get to see much of the.
GAME i saw a few the highlights of some nice
back shoulder throws that. Worked ultimately they, LOSE i think

(19:04):
a late drive for a field goal By Sam darnold And.
SEATTLE i loved the. STORY i know there were people
out there who are kind of annoyed by it and
what are we doing? Here that's kind of a, Circus
but to, me it was one of the. Stories it
was easy to root for. Him what did you make of?
It what do you make, well.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
YEAH i agree with. YOU i, mean he is super
easy guy to root. FOR i loved the couple of
years THAT i played with. HIM i, mean he's he
is exactly what you. SEE i, mean he's if you
can believe, it he's even even more funny inside the
locker room than he is to the. Media AND i
think he's really funny with the. Media SO i think,

(19:42):
that you, know with, him it very well easily could
have blown. Up, yeah you, know like what are they
doing with this forty four year old guy that you,
know we don't know what he's doing in the officeas you,
know we know how much like how in shape he.
IS i, mean clearly he's a little softer than.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
He used to.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Be BUT i SAW i saw enough of the game and,
say like he can still MAKE i mean he made
he made a throw early on the. Game it might
have been one of his first or second throws to
the right sideline that was like it was an incomplete,
pass but it was on the. DOT i, mean this
guy made a good defensive. Play But i'm, like, wow
like holy, cow like he's just out here ripping. It

(20:16):
AND i saw him take a couple of like big,
hits step into throws, hit AND i think that just
pairs up to exactly what he said in, postgame you,
know talking about his high school. Team AND i think
it's such a such a good lesson for everybody out
there that you, know don't be, scared you, know Don't

(20:37):
he went out there and played fearless and he wasn't
afraid to. Fail and you, know he said it much
better Than i'm saying it right, now and with much more.
Emotion BUT i think he's such a good role, model
especially in that, moment and SO i love the storyline
AND i can't wait to see what he does next.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Week as improbable and absurd as this, sounds given The
Micah PARSONS acl injury and the current standings and the
fact that they are about to host The Green Bay,
PACKERS i believe On Saturday Night football this, week is
it possible that THE Nfc north is The Chicago Bears

(21:16):
division to? Win?

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Oh, yeah it's very. POSSIBLE i, MEAN i think IT'S
i think it's going to. Happen, yeah there's there's a you,
know every one of these teams have a little something
that would let me know that they're not maybe playoff
ready or as good as they think they. Are and

(21:38):
now When parsons goes, out they're going back probably an
okay experts pass, rush and if their offense can't find
ways to consistently score, points then you're going to kind
of newter what you've what you've felt like you've built on,
defense and you, know same sort of thing. DEFENSIVELY i

(21:59):
think that as strong defensively as they were hoping to.
Be you, KNOW i think offensively they're still very, creative
and you, know golf is super, accurate AND i feel
like they're kind of picking things up and kind of
hitting their stride right, now which is. Dangerous but when
you look at the total package of a team that's
putting in all, together it looks like it's The.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Bears one other league wide question for. You as we
wrap up, Here mahomes goes down WITH i think an.
ACL i believe the latest information is that it's. Not
the other parts of me are not as damaged as
they can be in some of those. Injuries but yet
nevertheless he's gonna have to undergo. Surgery he's obviously out

(22:38):
for the remainder of the. Season The chiefs are. Eliminated
are we seeing the end of The chiefs era Of
National Football league?

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Dominance you, KNOW i don't think. So you, KNOW i
saw what was the stat and the correlation Between Tom.
Brady you, know it's like it's almost exactly to the
same moment in time that he tore his ac and
he went out and they were able to rebuild his
knee and continue with his. Legacy SO i do think

(23:06):
the difference though, is you, Know Tom brady was always
sort of a statuesque. Quarterback he didn't have to run
around as. Much you, know even When mahomes comes, back
and let's just say it's twelve months from, now because
that is sort of the timeline for everybody That i've
talked to that has AN acl injury is, yes you
can be back playing inside of that twelve, months but

(23:27):
to get your full explosion back in that knee takes
twelve months. Plus so you, know we're looking at Early
december between by the time he gets that full explosion
back and it's really going to be probably the end
of next. Season that's going to really hamper his ability
to scramble and create and that's what he does. Best
so in a short, term, YES i don't think that

(23:47):
things look good for them next, Year but beyond twenty twenty,
SIX i can't imagine that they're really going to fall off.
THAT i think they're just going to use this time
to kind of take a small. Rebuild you, know maybe
it's a good sale for them to be, Like, okay
we know that next year might not be a championship run,
again so let's make the necessary hard cuts and let's

(24:07):
develop some young players so that when he does come
back fully healthy in twenty seven that you know we
got the championship team out.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
There thank, You, Nacho we appreciate you. Well chat next.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Week all, right sounds.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Good that is the one and Only Ben Nacho, lever
brought to you by The Sierra Nevada Brewing. Company we've
included already a couple Of vikings talking. Points we have
a couple more to get. To we've got SOME a
section stuff to try to squeeze IN i think, today

(24:39):
if at all, possible and also when we, return we
will offer up a very, sad BUT i think necessary
ode to a dead. Guy so lots of show yet to.
Go don't go.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Away we neglected to mention it With Ben, leeber although
we did discuss it.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Earlier Jonathan gernard has been shut down for the. Season
he's going to get season. ENDING i believe it's shoulder. Surgery.
Correct he aggravated the previous shoulder, issue so it's not
at all surprising that. Everybody, well in this, case it
may not have been a, choice whether The vikings were
eliminated or, not that they may have had to do,
this but all the more reason to do, it given

(25:27):
how little is at. Stake the rest of the, way
you're going to play it pretty. CONSERVATIVELY i guess that's
My darrisaw. Question do, they at some, point whether it's
out of exasperation or just out of, precaution say we're
shutting them, Down we're. Done you, know if it's that
if we're in a place this four hundred and some,
days because all The jackals have actually counted the, days, apparently,

(25:49):
yes they can do. That since the, injury or was
it since the, surgery since the, INJURY i think since
the injury that you just, say, well if it's this,
difficult there's something, up so let's just not even mess with,
it you, know let's take the drama out of. It
we'll just say it's over the rest of the. Season, Johnny,
SO i don't think there's been anything on that it
might be something worth. Discussing, well, Actually i'm off, tomorrow

(26:11):
but you haven't see for on. Tomorrow it's something he might.
Pass i'm kind of curious to get his view on
that as. Well and now it's time for old to
a dead. Guy the first INDICATOR i had that there

(26:32):
was anything perhaps going on With Rob reiner was Via Dan,
minnesota and he sent out a tweet last. NIGHT i
don't even know the, time something. EFFECTIVE i hope it's
not true about. MEATHEAD i. Think i'm go, on wait a,

(26:52):
minute what's he?

Speaker 5 (26:53):
Doing was?

Speaker 1 (26:55):
That did he? Meant did he mean meat? Sauce? Right you,
Know i'm trying to figure it. Out so THEN i
go the Name Rob, reiner and already at that point
the speculation was. Rampant the individuals at The reiner home
had not been identified, yet but there was every reason
then to believe that he had lost his life as

(27:16):
well as his wife as, well and the worst case
scenario was indeed. Confirmed it's a story almost. Unspeakable the
authorities now do believe that it was one of his,
children one of his adult, sons who went into the
home and murdered the both of.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
Them.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
People magazine is reporting that it was another one of their,
children the DAUGHTER i, believe who went into their. HOME
i believe In brentwood and found. THEM i. CAN'T i
mean we've all said. It you can't even fathom the
possibility about being that in that position as a son

(28:03):
or a, daughter and you walk in and you find
your parents. Murdered it's. Astonishing there's already a number of
versions of what might have led to it that there.
Was one of the reports was a party At conan
O'Brien's house in which there may have been an argument

(28:24):
Between Rob reiner and his, son who has dealt with
apparently a great deal of drug. Addiction, YES i think
in and out of a dozen rehab, centers so obviously
there were some issues, there that there was some, argument
and that then it almost was carried. FORWARD i believe
that party was On saturday night and it was carried
forward somehow On. Sunday you, know there's a part of

(28:50):
me that there's we're all in the business. Now it's
kind of what we do of evaluating in caliber, reaction
which to me is become a very draining and exhausting.
Game you didn't mourn it, enough you mourned it too.

(29:15):
Much we calibrate all these, THINGS i guess because we
got nothing else to, do and we're so used to doing.
It and that, said obviously the The president's. REACTION I
i not only was not surprised by, IT i literally expected.
It so for that Reason i'm not as horrified by

(29:40):
it is that, said it's the saddest part of the,
Heart i'm really not horrified by. Normal the first THING
i thought of WHEN i WHEN i, saw, well there
he's untruth. Social, well he's gonna make it about the fact,
that you, Know Rob reiner was an agitator of of
of the, president and he'll never he'll never get past.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
That.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Now he went well beyond that into just really grossness
by suggesting in a fact that it Was trump arrangement
syndrome that killed him in a situation where it was
fairly obvious even then that they were murdered and somebody
FOUND i probably should have given it to, you but
it's not worth getting. Into When Charlie kirk was, Assassinated

(30:22):
Piers morgan Had Rob reiner on an interview on one
of the PERIOD i think The British Peers morgan. Show
SO i don't think he has one In, america and
maybe it was a, podcast whatever it, was and if
you can find it easily, Enough Rob, REINER i think
was probably no friend Of Charlie kirk's positions on a

(30:42):
number of, issues and The Rob reiner reaction was, horrified, disgusting.
Inexcusable no explanation for, it no excuse could possibly be
managed in this, case at least attempt to be a

(31:04):
little bit more above. Board, HELL i THINK i can't
imagine an individual who Despised Rob reiner's political leanings more
Than James, woods AND i Believe James woods also tried
to go highbrow on his reaction to. This so the president,

(31:27):
again people are. Horrified i'm, horrified But i'm not. Surprised
so then how horrified AM? I LIKE i, SAID i
fully expected that that's the way he would. Go, frankly,
though you, know in the remaining, Time i'd like to
just do the salute to, him To Rob, reiner who
had a. LOOK i know anybody who listens this show

(31:49):
much Knows i'm a Huge Carl reiner fan for reasons
that should be obvious if you look up his body
of work and his, talent his, creativity AND i just
think about that, succession BECAUSE i would assume in some
ways it wasn't the easiest to Be Carl reiner's, kid

(32:10):
And Rob reiner in a very different kind of career
than his, dad just carved out such a brilliant. Place
and he did that, obviously first in a, groundbreaking award
winning program Called all in The, family and then he
founded a whole another chapter where he became a big

(32:31):
time movie, director right going all the way back to
and The. KID i don't know how many kids have
seen this. Film it's a TERRIFIC i think to this
day it's still the, best one could, say sort of
mockumentary satire on the rock and roll. Culture in nineteen
eighty four a film Called this Is Spinal. Tap it's.

(32:55):
Tremendous it does such a good job of just sort
of poking holes in all the pretentiousness of a lot
of the rock. Scene terrific, cast brilliantly. Done and that
was his. Film there are a couple THAT i didn't
know as, well including a movie Called The Sure thing

(33:15):
that kind of got buried a little bit because it
was released about a month After The Breakfast club in eighty,
five which is a good film Of John. Hughes Film
that'll take some, oxygen which definitely. Will but then he
did in eighty six a movie called Stand By, me
which was adapted from A Stephen, king not a. NOVEL
i think it was a novella Called The. Body terrific,

(33:38):
movie right of passage. Film in, fact the story as
the story, Goes it's the only Movie Stephen king's pretty,
exacting even Though i'm sure he's enjoyed taking the paychecks
for Having hollywood take over his. Films but supposedly this
is the one Where Stephen king, said you got, it
you nailed, it you got. It this is Exactly you've

(33:58):
absolutely captured WHAT i was trying to to. Do terrific,
soundtrack great. Film Princess bride followed another really good. Movie
nineteen eighty, nine he makes a film Called When Harry Met,
sally and again at the, TIME i don't SAY i

(34:21):
got a, ripped but the feeling, was, well you're kind
of trying to go you're trying to go through the
territory That Woody allen had already established with a film
Called Annie. Hall and the feeling was, that you, know
maybe they call it the modern rom com, right and

(34:44):
that maybe it was too. Similar there were some. SIMILARITIES
i thought it was such a warm film in its own,
right and that's the one thing that one constant in his,
films you know he HAD i thought there was just
a lot of warmth in his movie, movies whether you
loved some more than the. Other and when When harry
Met sally was was. Outstanding again goes back a while

(35:08):
that you, Know Billy crystal And Meg ryan were the
stars of of that. Film he makes also a motion
picture Called well You, know With Aaron sorkin SCRIPTS I
believe A Few Good men And The American. President AND

(35:36):
i think a lot of people say the last of those,
two the second one is what inspired pretty much THE
tv series that was A sorkin series, too, Right The West,
Wing i'm not. Mistaken American president is a very good.
FILM i forgot that he. DID i GUESS i didn't
realize that he Did. MISERY i had no idea that

(36:00):
he did misery as, well did? YOU i did not
know he he directed that that that. Film it's also
worth noting that has pointed out this is a Piece
intheguardian dot. Com they remind us that you can't leave
out his influence as a producer through his Company Castle,
rock as they, say paving the way For Seinfeld sorking

(36:23):
a lot of. People so this is a guy WHO
i mean at every level kind of, maximized and again,
politically there's no secret where he. Landed there were times
he was a little too insistent and loud for me

(36:44):
as a kind of a one note wonder but that's
a different issue FOR i think a different day that
you have nothing to do with. This but you, KNOW
i mean, AGAIN i don't think you were that surprised
with what the president. Said and everybody's acting horrified and
how dare? You and and it it speaks to the

(37:09):
larger issue of where we, are where what we have
been reduced, to and that it becomes a game of,
yeah but don't forget When Charlie kirk. Died some folks
on the other, side what did they? Say so we
play that, game the the the what about game in this,
regard and the fact that we have to play that
at all throughout is. Frightening in, fact one of the

(37:31):
big Shot WHO'S i can't remember one of the most
popular writings ON x basically predicting that one, THING i
will guarantee you people on the right will in no,
way shape or form revel in the murder Of Rob
reiner the way that many people Did Charlie kirk and

(37:54):
about five minutes, later there's The trump social the. President
that's the, depression the president of The United. States it's just. Presidence,
yeah it's just you, know what are you going to?
Do BUT i would love to hear some FAVORITE i,
guess either, movies scenes From Motion pictures, productions and maybe

(38:15):
even going all the way back To all in The.
Family if you're old, enough what you remember of The
Rob reiner. CAREER i think he was seven seventy. SEVEN
i THOUGHT i saw either seventy seven or. SEVENTY i
think his wife was about ten years younger than he.
Was and as the story goes, on When harry Met,
sally he changed the ending when he met his, Wife,

(38:36):
yeah he, basically Which i've never heard until. TODAY i
had not heard, that yeah either Until how was that
going to? GO i was that going to? Be Like
La La?

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Land spoiler. Alert that's. True it still haunts me the
end Of La La. Land, YEAH i can't Imagine harry
And sally spoiler alert not being together at the end of.
That can you imagine if they just went their separate? Way,
yes Like Lala. Land it's gut, wrenching it.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
Is that's. True that's, very very. True SO i.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Wonder because the big line from that movie is when
you realize you want to spend the rest of your
life with, someone you want the rest of your life
to start as soon as. POSSIBLE i think the Big
New Year's eve speech From Billy. Crystal so he just
came up with, that like like hanging out on set,
basically that's pretty, impressive because that's.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Impressive it's a big model right. There another thing that struck,
me AND i think we talked about. It there was
some was it A Carl reiner Mel brooks bit together
or was it just With Carl reiner That rob was
involved in something that was on one of the EITHER, Hbo, netflix.
Whatever and what impressed me about The Rob reiner part

(39:43):
was the patience with which he drew out the principles
and because, LOOK i mean they're both pretty at that,
point they were both pretty, ancient so you know some
of this stuff wasn't, ea and yet they're both, geniuses comic,
geniuses AND i just remember being touched by and BECAUSE

(40:09):
i have no idea what the relationship was FOR i,
know a Stormy i'm not saying that it was the
perfect father son relationship, there but whatever it was for
the purposes of this, documentary he was just so good
about drawing his father, out being patient with, him trying
to lead him down roads where he Knew i'm sure
there was going to be pay dirt and very interesting

(40:30):
stories to, tell, anecdotes et. Cetera so it it's you,
know it's one of those stunning stories that the moment
YOU i, Mean i'll be, honest and this IS i
think a sign of the. Times, politically my first. Inclination
my first thought was somebody politically got, him that he

(40:54):
is so vocal on his side of the aisle that
some maniac Said i've had enough of, This i'm gonna silence.
Them that was my first, inclination and it turns out,
that's according to, police one hundred percent not. True it
seemed like they were very quick to indicate we're really
not looking for a, suspect AND i think they didn't

(41:15):
mean that. Literally they met it. Figuratively they're not looking
for a suspect because they already had, one and so
to that, EXTENT i think that was their way of,
saying this isn't this isn't some sort of random killing
or even a targeted killing in that, regard it's targeted
in a domestic, regard in which that's often the. Case
as mind blowing as it is.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
To think, about you mentioned the warmth of the, MOVIES
i feel like he had just like a warmth in
general when he was on the, Screen like he seemed
like even maybe doing the scenes with his father that
you talked, about But i'm even thinking just like when
he was, interviewed or when he was in different scenes
or different, movies or EVEN i think he Was leo's

(41:58):
dad In wolf of Wall street And leo's not a
celebrated character in that. Film he's you, know insane in
a lot of, ways and he's kind of like the
steady you got to turn yourself, in, buddy like you
got to turn yourself in and convinces him toune and
then it doesn't happen that. Way but he just there
was like a subtle WARMTH i think in a lot

(42:20):
of the. ROLE i don't know if it was the
beard or what the beard was Very that's, BEARD i
think was very. Subtleing it kind of gives you like,
this you, Know Santa claus type.

Speaker 10 (42:28):
Thing.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
Almost, yeah that's that's very. True and again when we
talk ABOUT tv, duos opposites playing off of each, other
so that it's the chemistry that's. Created is the oil
and water nature of the. Relationship that's the, bit that's the.
Chemistry it's hard to Top meathead as the sudden law

(42:54):
Of Archie. BUNKER i, mean in all, seriousness it's you
want to play that sound that you send? Me we, could, uh,
yeah you know, what we Can't we can go ahead and play.
That and THIS i, BELIEVE i think this was their,
LAST i, mean their last conversation together on all in the.
FAMILY i believe because Their meathead's gonna leave.

Speaker 5 (43:16):
With his.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
Family they're finally gonna gonna leave the, nest AND i
think they're going To, california AS i. Recall and so
this is the two of. Them it's It's meathead and
And Archie bunker side by, Side archie on his famous
chair and and and And meathead to his immediate.

Speaker 11 (43:32):
RIGHT i want to thank you for for all the
years you'll let me live, here and for all the free,
meals and for all the nice times we had. Together
AND i know there was a lot of arguing and,
fighting but we we did have some nice times, yeah

(43:56):
it was nice.

Speaker 5 (43:57):
Time m. Hmm you've been like a father to. Me, well,
hey you've been just like a son to.

Speaker 9 (44:11):
Me you never did NOTHING i ever tell you The,
eh hey ought.

Speaker 11 (44:16):
You we want you in mind to come visitors out.

Speaker 9 (44:19):
There oh, wow maybe your mother in law can't do,
that but you, KNOW i think you'd like it out, There, Na,
NO i think, SURE a fresh fresh juice every. Morning
why you, know MAY i always take the candle outs
the sunshine.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
HERE i like boy Niece pacific.

Speaker 9 (44:38):
Ocean, yeah WELL I i don't like an ocean where
the sun goes.

Speaker 5 (44:43):
DOWN i like an ocean where the sun comes.

Speaker 12 (44:45):
Up i'm gonna miss. You, wow, Listen i'm gonna and.

Speaker 5 (45:04):
Hey, listen you just take very good. Care glory And,
joseph those are two things you never have to worry, About. Archie.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Promise there it. Is and you, know again Classic carol
O'Connor acting in the Character. Archie he's not going to,
say he can't quite quite Say i'm going to miss you,
too so he turns it into something. Else that's a
i'd forgotten that. Scene that's a that's that's that's extremely well.

Speaker 5 (45:37):
Done. Man WHAT.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
I, SAID i don't even think most people can comprehend
if indeed what we think has happened, happened how you
know it gets to that, place the the amount of
emotional disturbance that must, exist and you, know to one

(46:01):
would assume on the basis of the history of the,
sun what, accumulates you know, what what becomes cumulative over
time to eventually end with, that presumably walking into your parents'
home and and attacking them the way he. Did it's,

(46:24):
uh it's it's it's almost. Unspeakable but the legacy Of Rob,
reiner it it will indeed live, on whether whatever you
thought of his, politics his ability to entertain or to

(46:46):
involve himself in motion pictures that entertained and sometimes did
give you food for, thought but just evoked deep, emotions
is that will indeed stand the test of. TIME i
will take a couple of texts when we come. Back
we'll continue with some toy department stuff as. Well on

(47:09):
a very busy. Program back just back in just a
minute here in the. Fan time now for The Vikings
report on The, fan presented By Miller Lyte vikings wide
Receiver Adam. Thielt some good texts to read a little

(47:48):
later in this. Program maybe in our next, segment but
let's keep The vikings talking points, going including what might
be described as the crucial section of last night's game
that ALLOWED i think The vikings to kind of take
control of things against the Hated Dallas.

Speaker 8 (48:09):
Cowboys bevo sip for Is Dak prescott about ready to
take the ball From? Cooper bebe snap third, Down Blitz,
prescott Hit, prescott. Sap they Got Dak prescott on.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
Third, down drove.

Speaker 8 (48:24):
Him all the way back to the forty one yard, line.

Speaker 1 (48:29):
And dak's abysslow to get.

Speaker 8 (48:30):
Up and now everybody interested In Brandon aubrey kicking these
super long field. Goals this one will be from fifty
nine yards. Left Hash aubrey has missed from, fifty he
missed from fifty one. Earlier he's nine to twelve from fifty.
Plus this will be a fifty nine yard try to

(48:53):
get The cowboys the. Lead early in the fourth, Quarter
snap Spot aubrey line, drive plenty of. Lay holy cow
missed it. Again The Minnesota vikings Put Brandon aubrey on
a bad, game and on this sleep number, scoreboard they
hold the lead twenty, four twenty, three, twelve twenty to

(49:14):
go in the, contest.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
All from the, Four Jordan mason.

Speaker 8 (49:19):
Sprints out wide, left three receivers to the. Right McCarthy
with an empty, backfield Puts hopkinson in motion first and
GOAL jj looking, right throwing, right, caught pushed.

Speaker 10 (49:29):
Down Chilon newer with a two touchdown game and The
Minnesota vikings have taking up thirty to twenty three.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
Lead and we never looked back after, that really did?
WE i, mean that's sort of the stretch starting with
a sack where we kind of took control of the whole.
Thing who do we plan next? WEEK i don't even.
REMEMBER i stopped thinking about the schedule once we were mathematically.
Elimined we are back on the road against The New
York Football. Giants loser proof three in a, row Four,

(50:02):
boudreaux it's got to be loser For mike yel. Problem
washington destroy The giants. Yesterday, washington the Same washington team
was awful AGAINST. US i think they've. Wonned they won
that game pretty. Sure they beat The, giants.

Speaker 2 (50:15):
And they've also announced they're shutting down their, Quarterback Jaydon.
Daniel yeah that'll surprise, there, right Doesn't, yeah it doesn't,
surprise shouldn't.

Speaker 1 (50:22):
Surprise anybody is that game Inflexed Viken's giants. UNLIKELY i
have it here as a noon right. Now that could change.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
It, yeah The giants lost by two or by eight
by eighty.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
One faldness exclaims that this can't Be danny B is
dedicating a segment to, Hockey wolves and.

Speaker 2 (50:43):
Five if you want to do the third, one you
could say. Guards he HATES, Okc jos and. FIVE i
figured there had to be AN okac coming in in.

Speaker 1 (50:53):
There john From Wall watana, WRITES cc is not a.
Clown vikes were great on third, doar so Happy hughes
is In towns and. Five that's not that not bad at.
All Um as a giggling, no as a gigging guitar,

(51:15):
player my favorite will always be this spinal. Tap speaking
Of Rob reiner, films When nigel Shows Rob reiner his
guitar amp and the fact that all the knobs go
up to. Eleven rob asks, him why don't you just
make the number ten a little bit? Louder nigel, responded

(51:37):
but this one goes to. Eleven it's the most oft
quoted scene that captures that film. Beautifully, no, no, no, wait,
no you don't get. It ours goes to, eleven so
ours has to be, louder and he has no idea
of exactly what he, is indeed, saying we have one

(52:05):
More vikings talking. Point let's go ahead and get to,
it shall. WE i don't remember what this one this?
IS i called this one stopped the? Presses but what
WAS i asking the? Presses we stopped?

Speaker 5 (52:12):
About?

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Uh what was your favorite pure progression? Moment? Oh that's.
Right in, fact well we'll get back to that because
of our conversation WITH. Tj, hockinson because he's the guy
who caught this. Pass let's.

Speaker 8 (52:23):
LISTEN jj McCarthy's out of the, SHOTGUN. Cj hammond the
backfield passed over the, middle CAUGHT. Tj hockinson between the
hassmarks on the run at the, fifty gets to the
forty five of The Dallas, cowboys and he stopped.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
At the forty four yard.

Speaker 8 (52:38):
Line it Is hockinson for twenty nine and a first down.

Speaker 7 (52:42):
Man and that is your Typical tampa two beater where
you get to tied end up to see him And
Marvin overshown just wasn't quite.

Speaker 1 (52:49):
Telling enough to break up that.

Speaker 7 (52:51):
Pass so beautiful, route beautiful throat BY jj McCarthy.

Speaker 6 (52:56):
For possibility to throw the football from an arm strength,
standpoint he's going to have a chance to touch every
blade of grass and allow us to be. Explosive and
THEN i think he's made some big time throws and
some big. MOMENTS i thought the seamball TO tj was
a spectacular, throw.

Speaker 13 (53:11):
And probably the seamball TO tj coming out you know
as a tight cover two coverage kind of pseudo. Quarters
but you, know just playing on, time in, rhythm trusting
WHAT i, see being, decisive and you, know seeing the
ball come out exactly the WAY i wanted to that
was pretty. Cool but you, KNOW i made a tremendous.
Catch like if you ask, him and you, know we'll

(53:32):
have him walk you through what that ball was looking
like in those. Lights it's pretty.

Speaker 5 (53:37):
Cool pretty.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
Cool so.

Speaker 1 (53:40):
What we're hearing is that that particular completion decision and
pass and, catch we're not functions of the pure progression.
Approach that that one was him reading, things not necessarily
where he was supposed to go next on that. Play
i'll take the experts of their word on. THAT i
have actually no idea if that's, true anything that could

(54:03):
suggest the possibility that not every pass completion is pure
progression related would sound refreshing to. Me SO i didn't
even know if it. Applies for all we know it
was a pure. Progression if somebody's telling us it wasn't
a pure progression even though it. WAS i just, like.

Speaker 2 (54:17):
How every pass is going to be evaluating is it
pure progression or not pure?

Speaker 1 (54:21):
Progression that's, True that's the way it's going to. Be
the rest of the. Way we've overcomplicated it that. Way After,
giants what do we have? Left?

Speaker 2 (54:28):
Then It's Lions packers here back to Back Northern division.
Collisions you have visions of running the table, now don't.
You The packers are? Damaged how about? That parsons? Out,
Yeah lions can't guard. Anybody they just can't.

Speaker 1 (54:45):
STAY i, mean they can score with, anybody but you
got to be able to play defense a little, bit don't.
You that's what they, say AND I i just don't
think they. Can they.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Lose was it to The rams last night or yesterday
in a? Shootout forty one thirty? Four let me look
at real quick, here and it is hard to, believe
but It although The bears do have some tough games, left,
themselves INCLUDING i think they finish with The. Lions that
would make, sense BUT i don't, know maybe far enough
ahead of The lions, anyway because right NOW i think

(55:16):
there are they two.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
GAMES i think they're two games ahead Of, detroit aren't.
They The bears are back in first place by half
a game over The packers because The packers had that one,
Tie SO i think The bears have one more victory
Than Green bay.

Speaker 2 (55:29):
Does, yes And detroit is two games. Back oh two games? Back,
okay yep of The bears of The. Bears let's take
a look At lions points. Allowed, okay going backwards from
yesterday's game against The, rams forty, one, thirty thirty one.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
And twenty. Seven we know it's not good. Baseball because
what's interesting is if you go back a little further
that they're not ridiculous. Scores they gave up sixteen To,
philly that was that low scoring. Game they gave up
twenty two To, washington they gave up twenty seven TO,
us they gave up nine To Tampa. Bay Tampa, bay
they gave up, well then there's a, thirty so it's it's.

(56:11):
Mixed but lately going, back really starting with The giants.
Game even The giants game they won thirty four twenty,
seven they gave twenty seven, Points so twenty, seven thirty,
one thirty and forty. One that that ain't gonna get
the thing. DONE i wouldn't think that's pretty significant. Issue
and now The packers lost their lynchpin, defensively, right guy

(56:33):
was was as good as. Advertised he was changed a
lot for, them letally changed the, defense and they lose
to the team you despise more than any in football
because of who coaches. Them denver is one and now
eleven in a. Row eleven in a. Row yeah they,
Are they're they're the number one seed right now in THE.

Speaker 2 (56:49):
Afc Kansas city's, Gone they're. Done, yeah they lose, Yesterday
mahomes gets.

Speaker 1 (56:53):
Hurt mahomes is DONE acl in his, case he's gonna
have surgery later in the. Week. Yep the stat that
the amazing stat is this. ACCURATE i think it. Is
in Once mahomes became the guy For Kansas, city every
season has ended in either The Super bowl or the

(57:20):
conference title. Round, Yes and the worst he's done in
the in the at the title round level is losing
ot and he's obviously won some of those as. WELL i,
mean that's an astonishing record of accomplishment every year in the,
playoffs since they obviously he's not gonna make the playoffs this.
Year but not only do you get, in the worst
you do is make it to the conference title. GAME i,

(57:43):
mean that's that's all time stuff for. Sure all, right
top of the hour, pause a couple of texts to,
explore and one other a section story to briefly get
into as. Well we even spent some time on it
Via sunday sermons yesterday don't Go we chatted yesterday even

(58:26):
on sermons because it was the STORY i didn't think
could be possibly ignored regarding what took place on the
beach In, sydney the mass terror murder shootings at a
gathering at basically A jewish service of the individual who

(58:47):
blindsided one of the shooters from the back and bravely
took the the gone away from, Him and WHAT i
didn't know at the time was he ended up up
getting wounded, himself because if you watch the, video you
could see he's not comfortable with the. Gun he ends

(59:09):
up leaning against a tree while the terrorist is. Retreating
but THEN i think that individual went back to the
pedestrian bridge where there was another gun and started shooting some.
More there have been some some eyewitnesses who said that
the police response was was very tepid because he's signaling

(59:30):
LIKE i GOT i got this guy's. Gun what am
i supposed to? Do this isn't Something i'm comfortable, with
even Though i've tried to bravely do something that most
of us couldn't possibly even, consider you, know, doing and
that is to try to get in the middle of the.
Fray it's what's interesting is the quotes from The Prime.

(59:51):
Minister the suspects were driven to commit an act of
Anti semitism by ideology is an extreme perf version Of,
islam but acted. Alone there's no evidence of, collusion no
evidence that these people were part of a, cell to
WHICH i, say who gives a? CRAP i now it's

(01:00:13):
important information to follow the story if it's part of
a larger. Group but any one, individual in this case
two who are capable of in the name of, religion
do something this heinous and, murderous there's no consolation. There and,

(01:00:36):
if as This Prime minister's attempt to, do you make
it still about the guns and we have tough gun,
Laws we're gonna have to make them even. Tougher you're
sending the wrong message in a country that has quite
frankly been under siege and criticism for a while about
not properly holding a sense of.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Terror Against jewish citizens accountable or those individuals responsible for
creating that. Climate we got to be as interested in
this kind of, activity whether it comes from a white
nationalist or from someone of The islamic faith who has

(01:01:21):
if you want to use The Prime minister's, terms responsible
for an extreme perversion Of, islam we have to still
be interested in it and we cannot be afraid of
being accused Of.

Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
Islamophobia doesn't have to be about an entire, faith but
it must be called out if one individual of that
faith does what these two individuals apparently, have just as
should be the case Whether christians are involved or any other.
Faith Jerald. Posner the day after The bondai, attack The

(01:02:00):
Prime minister pivoted to gun reform because The isis inspired
father son team reportedly held six firearms. Legally gun debate
is a distraction from his government's larger. Failure australia's surging
Anti semitism Since october seven has been met only with
hesitation and political. Cowardice governments set the template for its

(01:02:21):
inaction only two days After october seven that sat by
silently as large crowds. Swarmed crowds swarmed The Sydney Opera
house shouting bleep The, jews and some reports there were
chants of gas The jews been firebombing of, Synagogue jewish, homes.
Businesses that's part of what has to be held to account.

(01:02:44):
Here so the idea of the day after you go
this cannot be tolerated doesn't mean a hell of a
lot if you have not done everything within your power
in a relatively free, country admittedly to try to send
the right mess regardless of what you think about what
is going on in the In palestine of to The.

(01:03:08):
Palestinians and that's a significant part of the. Story there
are a number Of jewish leaders In australia who who've
pointed this out and, said we've been warning about this
for a. While it's become too easy that everybody of
The jewish faith ends up getting lumped. In that's about

(01:03:30):
as Anti semitic as indeed one can can. Get where
was the let's see IF i can find it here
on the. Fly the one comment From i'm in the
wrong spot, Here i'm trying to get TO. X and
there were a couple of religious leaders, who, oh by the,
way this is a. Righty all those people who lost

(01:03:53):
their jobs for their disgusting tweets About Charlie kirk's assassination
are staring at the president and ied state social media
account in miss in. Disbelief it's a good. Point people
lost their jobs. WRONGFULLY i thought that they. Did and
then this gets to the. Calibration tell me what you
make of, this because this might fund the classification of

(01:04:16):
we're looking too hard and missing the larger, story or
is this a case of why would you calibrate your
words this? Closely Pennsylvania house Candidate Bob brooks offered condolences
To Australia's jewish, community then deleted his social media. Posts
this was the original, post according according to The Washington Free,

(01:04:38):
BEACON i see IF i can click on. It two
killed In, providence eleven In. Sydney deeply tragic and it
didn't have to. Happen sensible gun safety laws save. Lives
holding The Brown university's community and The jewish community In
sydney in my thoughts. Today then that was at nine
thirty two. Am at ten al ten eleven, am this

(01:05:02):
became two killed and nine injured In. Providence deeply. Tragic
didn't have to. Happen sensible gun safety laws save, lives
holding The Brown university community in my thoughts, Today so
the obvious, questions, well what did you get heat for
conflating the?

Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
Two is?

Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
THAT i, MEAN i don't even. Know it's all very.
Strange and by the, way The Brown university, story that
thing has imploded. Now the person that we, thought or
that authorities seemed to be hinting was the person of
interest got released after being. Named pictures splashed all over the,
place and now they're saying we're going in a completely different.

(01:05:37):
Direction local and state authorities are bitter with THE fbi
about the investigation kind of threw them under the. Bus
SO i haven't heard anything yet. Today do we have
any sign OF i haven't followed. IT i haven't followed
it since the original. Stuff it was.

Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Interesting their president had, Like i'll never understand why you
have a press conference when you don't have any.

Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
INFORMATION i give.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
IT i know why you can't say certain, things but
there were some things that it didn't seem like they
even had any handle, on which is tough BECAUSE i
know everybody's looking for answers and you want to get
out there and get in front of it and give
whatever info you. Can but there was some cringeworthy moments
in that, presser that's for, sure and several of them.
Actually all, right we'll wrap things, up remind you what you,

(01:06:18):
missed and set up the rest of a very very busy,
week including a couple of outstanding texts to finish our
final our, FIGHT i should say final segment of this
year show rap presented By American pressure commercial Grade Pressure
watchers since nineteen seventy.

Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
Five it's The bumper To bumper show wrap o't. STANDING
a ram of guests, today including a nice visit at
three point thirty With vikings tight END T. J hockinson
that was immediately followed By Johnny athletics weekly. Appearance we
did talk hockey early with, him got to Some vikings
and got to plenty Of Minnesota timberwolves chatter as. Well

(01:07:00):
lieber joined the usual time probably about four forty seven
or so as. Well lots of Good vikings talking. Points
i'm off the next couple of, days So guardzy will
be in that. Share do you know what you have
planned for? Sure?

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Yet a lot of the, Regulars, yeah everybody should be
good to. Go, mason it's going to be tomorrow instead Of,
wednesday Hoping Kevin seaford tomorrow is still working on. That
so pretty status status, quo pretty, standard as we, say,
standard bumper to, bumper, fair.

Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
A couple of good texts to finish things up with. Today,
oh by the, Way Monday night football will Follow vikings
rewind right here in the fan and it's not a bad.
MATCH i, mean The dolphins are playing, better right They
they've kind of come out of. NOWHERE i don't know
if they're out of the playoff chase or. Not but
A rod's always interests. Me Pittsburgh steelers always interest. Me
they won a big game last week against The, ravens didn't.

(01:07:49):
They it's pretty. Important that's right found, Again so we
can watch theealing tonight On Monday Night football right here
or listen or listen right here on the. Flagship correct
REGARDING i think this kind of goes back to The
Rob reiner. Story we now live in a country where
when a cultural icon is murdered in the most unspeakable
manner by his own grown son with a motive that

(01:08:12):
is most likely not. Political, Somehow shark's jets is our
number one talking. Point his culture war is a poison
that infects every conversation. TODAY i found it. JARRING i
just wanted to mourn and take a break from. Politics well,
said nothing to add to, It, DAN i had an.

(01:08:34):
Uncle this Is mitch From Apple. VALLEY i had an
uncle who had very bad substance abuse problems as his
life went on track star in high, school in. College
but once it takes, hold the addiction never lets. Go
his mental health, deteriorated and eventually he ended up. Homeless
he became such an unrecognizable version of the person we
knew and. Loved he never did anything to anyone but

(01:08:57):
the way he would Act it was in the back
of my, mind and he ended up taking his own
life two years ago. Today, so having dealt with that,
Personally i'm not shocked to hear how it ended for
the Rhyin or. Family i'm guessing this train has been
coming down the tracks for a long time and finally
came to a. Head another excellent, text and that's the.

(01:09:19):
Truth we think of this and we go we're, horrified
but we have no. Idea this doesn't happen out of, nowhere.
Right it does often take years of dysfunction to build
to a place where this unspeakable end could indeed. Ensue

(01:09:44):
dan is why we listened to you for thirty years.
Plus your eloquence and attempting to explain the effect of
the confluence and intersection of addiction and mental disorder that
results in a horrific act of violence is. WONDERFUL a
great man is gone and there's nothing left but inadequate.
Way i'm glad you're at the mic trying to make
some sense of. It thank, you. BROTHER i appreciate the kind,

(01:10:05):
words And i've learned the hard. WAY i think over
the years that when it comes to these, issues to
use his, term the intersection of addiction and mental, disorder
the power of those things coming together to some of us,
again it's like we can't understand it because fortunately we

(01:10:27):
don't live. It but there are many. People it's not
just the people what happens, too it's the people around
those individuals who observe it and are haunted by. It
and terrorized by. It and over thirty years we've gotten
some incredible reminders of that with, texts and so that's
Why i've. LEARNED i, mean it would be foolish to

(01:10:52):
dismiss it or to downplay, it or to not in
an odd sort of way of. It it's proper due
the power of what those, things that how destructive those
forces can. Become, right it's it's. Everything examples are, endless
and they are in the other Thing i've learned over

(01:11:13):
the years, again and this DOES i think come with
age a little bit for some of, us is you
may not even know it for a long, time but
eventually you find out almost every family out there is. Effective, sure,
Right that's the, Thing, Emily buddies got. Problems and that's
WHY i don't think you can be you, know glib about.

(01:11:35):
It you can't be dismissive of take care of, it you,
know buck, up nott. Up it's it's those things are
fun to talk about when it's sports, stuff but and
even on some, issues but if they're at this, level
there's layers to it that go beyond just any sort
of LIKE i, said glib sayings to just take care

(01:11:57):
of it and just find. It put your house you're in,
order the house of people around you in. Order it's
never that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
EASY i remember my buddy read For gravy writes for
The start of Un, yeah he just within the last
month or so just put out a really long form
piece where he was basically embedded with a family who
lost a daughter to. Fentanyl, Yes AND i finally got
around to reading, it AND i Texted red BECAUSE i
don't know how to say it the right. Way he
has a gift like you, do of eloquently like humanizing

(01:12:27):
this thing that if you don't have direct impact with,
it humanizing these tragedies WHERE i, mean you know you're
not going to feel good reading, it BUT i would
recommend everybody read. It but it's a lot about the,
family what they go through and how they go through,
it and how they were trying to help their. Daughter
and it was a remarkable piece of work. There and
it's to kind of what we were saying With reiner's.
Kid he was in and out of rehabby. Talked he

(01:12:50):
wrote a movie that his dad ended up working on
him with and it was basically about him in and
out of, homelessness.

Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
Addiction the whole. DEAL i have so much appreciation for
people who who have to deal with this and who
are strong enough to find ways to do, so to
continue to try to move on because you got. To
but when you say move, on you never forget. It
but you have to find a way to gird yourself

(01:13:15):
and get yourself through. It and a lot of times
you can't even tell they've been through, it but that
doesn't mean it's not, there and it's part of what
makes them. Them it's a subject we could do hour
upon hour on and again it's. Relatable that's usually when
we get the greatest number of texts from people who
have give us their own version of exactly that. Story

(01:13:37):
and they are all said with such, humility and it's
why they don't, judge because they, know no matter what
you think you can do take care of, This, well
you just got to be tougher. Here you just got
to handle. That it's not always that simple with individuals
who year after year put themselves in a place where
there's no, snap single. Answer thanks for the text. Today

(01:13:58):
enjoyed the program very, much even though some of the
subject matter is. DIFFICULT guardsi in charge tomorrow and On
WEDNESDAY i will be back on A thursday at three
don't Forget Vikings rewind and Then monday night football here
on the fant
