Speaker 1 (00:00):
At it.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Just in case you missed it. It's the top five
spource dodgers of the day. Now it's time for Dan
Barrero's Top five and five brought to you by Gutter
Helmet of Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Never clean your gutters.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Againet learn more at Gutter Helmet MMT dot com.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I'm sure everybody's all confused because it's four and because
I'm not Dan Barrero guards he's in for Dan. This
is live and this is live guaranteed human. iHeartRadio. We
are a guaranteed human. Brett Blakemore justin guard. We are here,
only here for another fifteen minutes or so though, because
we are out early tonight we've got the World Junior
Quarterfinals USA versus Finland with Halvey and Mark Parrish. That's
coming up at Vikings programming at four thirty. So we're

(01:02):
gonna do just like a mini version and straddle the
top five at five.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
But it's the top four at four Brett Blakemore and
I probably won't get full in, but here we go.
It broke last night. We opened the show with it
Koy Parrich entering the transfer portal. Many opinions abounds, some
people devastated he was the main merch mover on that
Gopher team. He's a very good football player. He all
but certainly gone. Guards of your quick reaction to Koy

(01:29):
Parrich entering the transfer portal and potentially leaving the Gopher.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
College Sports twenty twenty six. Nothing shocks me. Things surprised me.
Nothing shocks me. I put this one in the middle
of surprise and shock.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
It was.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
It seemed like a fifty to fifty proposition as the
season was kind of going along, and certainly the last
couple of weeks. It's disappointing for sure, because you mentioned it.
He's Koy Perrich, He's the boy from Esco. He's the
KOI wonder. They built a lot of things around him, right, PJ.
Let him play offense, PJ let him run kicks back.
He had a great freshman season, had some up and

(02:04):
down moments this year, but the highs were certainly high.
That pick six against Purdue, all of that, it's a bummer.
It's a buzzkill. Do I think it's like terminal for
the program?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I don't, because Drake Lindsay's still here, and Anthony Smith
is still here and Darius Taylor. People may have missed
he's coming back. So of your four stars, three of
them are coming back. Coy's one that can pick his
price and pick his place. He's one of the blest
few in college football that can kind of go out
and do both. And we'll see where he ends up.
Do I expect that he comes back here, even though

(02:35):
it's been reported that the option is open or he's
leaving that option open. I don't, but again, nothing would
surprise me. He definitely wants to see what's out there.
It sounds like he's looking at college football playoff contenders,
which would include the Ohio States of the World, which
was his second school or runner up school when he
committed to the U. Could it be Miami and reunite

(02:56):
with Corey Heatherman, who was the defensive coordinator here a
year ago.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Now is in my with them in the college football Playoff.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Maybe it's a buzzkill, but they got two years out
of them, and it's never been harder than ever to
keep players, and it's never been harder for players to stay.
There's a lot of stuff that goes on during the
year after the year, pre portaling, which is another word
for tampering. There's just a lot of stuff that we

(03:22):
don't know about or have privy to. But it's a
buzzkill because fans invested in them. I understand they're disappointed.
A lot of jerseys were purchased, including from Coy Parritch's mom.
So it's a bummer, but it's college sports in twenty
twenty five, twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Earlier this morning, the I know this is front and
center for you guards the the US men's Olympic hockey
team was announced. Bill Garon is your GM.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I love this.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
It's not a good time to search on X or
the social media of your choice the name Bill Garrett
because people are not happy. Really, there's a lot about well,
they're mostly mad about Jason Robertson. Cole Kaffee is another
name that people are upset about.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
But Jason Robertson is like having a career year. He
scores a boatload of points for the Dallas Stars, and
Bill Garon basically said, well, you're not good enough defensively,
so we don't want you. He didn't actually say that,
but he didn't pick him.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
And would that be a fair allegation against Jason Robertson.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
It depends on who you ask yeah, I don't think
it is personally. The only reason we've done this routine
in the past where we know Canada is skilled, so
we got to be big and strong. We've done that
and most times it blows up in our face. The
only reason that I'm not scathing mad along with the
keyboard Warriors right now is because the four nations face off,

(04:39):
it was essentially the same roster, and the US played
Canada close for six periods, beat him in the first game,
and lost in overtime in the second. So it's hard
to get mad when you see that.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Here's my question to you, who is going to make
sure that they are staying in front of Connor McDavid
in the slot right in front of the net in
overtime of the gold medal game.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
You got to figure that out.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
We have a guy who's going to do that, because
even me as a as a hockey dad but not
a hockey player, knew that that was a bad idea
in the four Nations that you can't lose track of him.
Do we feel like we've addressed that.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
There's a pairing of Brock Favor and Quinn Hughes on
this US team right What more do you.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Want to quote the great Herb Brooks for those mad
at Bill Garrin, I'm not looking for the best players,
I'm looking for the right ones.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Genius.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Let's pause, Yes, come back, wrap up the show with
a couple of more top four to four items and
what you missed and what's coming up? Guards thean for
Barrero for a couple of more minutes on this Friday
on the fan.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
It's the Bumper to Bumper Show.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Right, and it's presented by American Pressure Commercial grade Pressure
Washers since nineteen seventy five, not a new calendar in
twenty twenty six. We did not change the show's schedule.
We did change the Bell Banks studios. We are broadcasting
from the Bell Bank Studios. We're very excited to do that.
Thank you Guards again for Berrero Today, final segment vikings
programming in ten minutes. We've got World Junior Hockey coming
up at five o'clock, the US versus Finland quarter final

(06:18):
number three from Grand Casino.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Tonight. I'm heading down there. Oh, good for me.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
You wouldn't have to have an extra pair, would you?
I would not not for tonight. Yeah, you want going
to work on some for the semis of the finals.
We got to win the night first of all. By
the way, we did not play well on Wednesday, I texted,
so we kind of called it too if you listened
on Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
He didn't love how we were playing.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
No, they they kind of I mean same with Slovakia
that come from behind the Switzerland game. They kind of
played with their food a little bit. They don't just
come out and dominate a game from the start and
almost it's almost like they need to get punched in
the mouth before they start playing. So which is not
good to win a gold medal, the fanas learned.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Not helpful, No, not at all.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
I texted as certain someone to see if I could
get in and he just said, lol, I'll give you
a guess on who that was.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Little college football playoff update yesterday. I believe Indiana thirty
eight Alabama three. This was a belt to ask. As
the kids say, it was domination. It's embarrassing a lot
of reactions to the SEC having just a terrible ball
season and this was the cherry on top for SEC haters.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
It was awesome. It was It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Have you seen the Signetti video where he's got the
Hoosiers coming out of the tunnel and McAfee's.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
In the end zone.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yes, it's so good, and Signette's just kind of scrolling
and he just gives them kind of the shooter with
the shooter McGavin right at him, and McAfee loves it.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
It's such a good video. It's so badass. I do love.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I love a lot of what happened in because I
think I said something about somebody tweeted something about the
balls and the playoff need to be a wake up
call for the SEC and somebody tweeted back like, well,
the balls don't matter, they're meaningless.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
It's all about the playoffs, and say, yes, I agree
in a sense.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
But take the Tampa game for example, Vanderbilt versus Iowa.
Both of those teams cared. Both of those teams had everybody.
Vanderbilt was trying to talk themselves into a playoff deal
so much so that they said, we'll play another team
right now, if you need another data point. They had
the Heisman runner up in Diego Pavia right. He didn't
sit out, he didn't opt out, he played. They had

(08:25):
pretty much everybody. Both teams and Iowa pretty much handled
them like I know, things got kind of close. Pavia
got going a little bit in the second half. But
that's another example of people think Iowa is just this
random eight and four Big ten teams, Like, no, they
were pretty damn good and why should they're eight and
four look different than an SEC eight and four. That
was an SEC ten and two, by the way, and

(08:47):
Iowa pretty much handled them. It did get a little messy,
but they jumped out to.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
A huge lead and then held on.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
So I love it because the industry has a problem,
the college sports industry, and that it is so Southeastern
Conference centric. And here's the thing, everybody, the two Heisman
finalists were from Indiana and Vanderbilt. Now that's like a
Southern Big ten school.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
But my point is, which is a laughable statement even
five years old, the.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Point is it's all getting spread around now, like it's
all getting spread out, and it's condensing a lot of
times in the Big ten n SEC, and those are
the two big leagues. But the point is it's not
just because the SEC fixes it. Every year, there's gonna
be nine of them ranked in the top twenty five.
So when Lane Kiffen and Lsu plays ole Miss, who's
ranked sixteenth. They have a win over a sixteenth rated team. Well,

(09:37):
they might suck, they might be no good, but because
we've decided they're the SEC and they're better than everybody.
It's just it's gonna be interesting the next few years
because third straight year a Big ten team will play
for a national championship because Indiana plays Oregon, and I can't.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Wait for that game.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
But it just matters. More, just means more, means more,
Just means more. They're just valued more and more, so
it just means more I elsewhere. So you're your final four.
They don't call it that, but I like to call
it that. Your final four is Oregon taking on that
Indiana squad YEP, which I have Indiana favor is four points,
and then it only makes us taking on potentially future

(10:12):
home of Koit Perich Miami, and Miami favored three and
a half.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
I think that's fair too. Yeah, I think that's fair too.
Miami's the Cinderella, which is hilarious. Yeah, but they're.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Playing great, the Georgia transfer quarterback and Carson Beck.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Yeah, figure they're playing great. You want to know, and
I don't know if I've done this every year, I
don't think I have, but we always talk about every
year you and I are always doing shows this time
that you're right money and there's always a terrible bowl
game on in other people's words.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
And I think all bowls are great. I love all
bowl games. They're fun.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Why not don't watch if you don't want to, I
guess what, You're in the minority if you're not watching.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
ESPN Today.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Reports that their non college football bowl viewership is up
thirteen percent. Their bowl games are averaging two point seven
million viewers. Two point seven million viewers is pretty much
more than any college basketball game that's not the Final
four or that's not the NCAA Tournament. Pop Tart Bowl

(11:10):
eight point seven million, Pinstripe Bowl. Do you know who
played in the Pinstripe Bowl. I know one of them
was Penn State seven point six million. Surely the worst
bowl game to go to tax Slayer It was like
fifty two degrees when we went there a few years ago.
It was awesome. Tax Slayer Bowl. I think that's the
Gator Bowl. By the way, Pinstripe Bowl was a record

(11:32):
tax Layer Bowl best in two thousand and nine to
six million people. What times your apology to the Rate
Bowl four point four million people. You put that rate
at risk, and suddenly people since twenty eleven. I want
to watch Drake Lindsay, want to watch Anthony Smith, want
to watch the Lobos. I bet the whole state of
Wisconsin was watching that game for their next coach, Jason Ack,

(11:55):
who's helled by the way, Yeah, I love that guy.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Does he play old school football?

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Okay, he's an old school guys.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
The LA Bowl three point eight million, the best on
record first responder Bowl that's in Fort Worth, Texas three.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Point one million. Do you get my point? What's this bowl?

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Detroit? Two point four million?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
People watched Northwestern beat I think one of the Central
Michigans or Eastern Michigans or Western Michigans.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
But the point is, you can complain all you want
about all these bowls and nobody cares. Those are big numbers,
big numbers for sports. They're not for the NFL, probably
not for the NBA, but for college football, those are
pretty pretty pretty big numbers. And that's why there's thirty
four bowl games or whatever the number is, and I'm here.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
For all of it. Enjoy the season, that's right.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Anything else We're about done.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Huh, that's pretty much yet, all.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Right, guaranteed to four four guaranteed Human today from two
to four thirty. Appreciate Ben Gestley moving his schedule up.
Joined us a little bit earlier at two thirty. Love
Todd Tuesday with Meat Sauce and Ryan Donaldson as well
as Carl GERB Schmidt.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
That was a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Good hustle today, good scrambling, getting everything out where it
needed to be.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Brett Blakemore, you.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Say jump, we say how high.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Vikings programming next, Hermantown Halby and World Juniors USA versus
Finland coming up at the top of the five o'clock hour.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Have an elite weekend. We will talk to you on Monday. Bye.
