Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage here at
Shields Eden Prairie as we do Toys for Talks with
our friends at the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Jalen Naylor, Ladies.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
And gentlemen, thanks your noise. Hi Jalen, good morning, Good morning.
How are you doing?

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Thanks for swinging by man, of course, Aleen Naylor from
Michigan State. We can talk to Michigan State football in
the second man, you got a new coach there. But
let's talk Vikings first, and let's talk toys for Talks
first of all, again, thanks for coming out. This is
super cool. We're trying to collect some toys for a
bunch of kids. Favorite toy growing up? Do you have
something off the top of your head that jumps out?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
No?

Speaker 5 (00:34):
I wasn't really a toy kid. What Yeah, I was
busy with sports too much, so you went outside?

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (00:41):
Oh no outside? What other sports did you play? I
played baseball for a shirt period of time and then track,
hence the name speedy. Yes, sir, do you prefer speedy?
Because we've debated this on the show now for about
a year. I just call you Jalen.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
I have a hard time calling anybody speedy weird your.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Thoughts on the nickname, I don't really mind. You don't
mind it to me? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Are you guys should have a foot race and just
show him why you're called speedy, Jalen.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
That's what I'm thinking we can do that today.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
It is it Miles Price who's the one that is
he the one that thinks he's faster than you?

Speaker 5 (01:15):
Yeah, Miles Price, Typer, Felton Jordan maybe maybe yeah, but
none of them are no.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Man, Jalen.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I was watching in pregame warm ups the other day
when you're out on the field and you were fielding punts.
I don't know if that's something you do in every
pregame is I asked Paul, I'm like something going on
over there? He said, no, he does that all the time.
Is that something you'd like to do? Would you like
to be fielding punts out there? Is that something you'd
think is fun? Because it scares the heck out of
me every time we punch the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
It definitely scares me as well. But I don't think
I would.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
I wouldn't mind, you know, but every every pre game, yeah,
I do go out and catch punch. So I'm just
ready if I ever.

Speaker 6 (01:53):
Need to go out there, what's it like being in
a wide receiver room with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Aedison.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
That's fantastic, man. You got two great guys, even better
football players, you know. So just to have them in
the room and just see what they're doing well and
just try to put that in my game. And then
when I see things that they can improve on, I
give him that feedback as well.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
So it's we got a complete room in there. You know.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
We don't take criticism two series, you know, or to
take it too personal.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
So we enjoy like helping each other out.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Got to ask the hard question. I promised you I
wouldn't putch in a bad spots. I'll just let you
take it from here. Talk to me about Adam Feeling
and the time you've shared with him as a teammate.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, Adam has been great, man.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
He helped me out so much my first my very
first year when we was there his last year, it
was really great to just see him play. You know,
he's one of the great Minnesota Vikings. And be able
to share room with him for almost two years, you know,
it's amazing, man. You know, just a little little tidbits
in there with what he sees in my game that
can help me out. I try to put that in

(02:55):
the in the consideration when I'm out there taking my
next rep. So, just having him as as a role
model and as a leader in our receiver room, it
has been amazing.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Jalen is a wide receiver.

Speaker 7 (03:05):
A lot of times we'll see, whether it's you or
anyone in the league, the incredible one headed catches or
a toe tap that we're like, how did he get
a toe down?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
How?

Speaker 7 (03:14):
And when do you work on those kinds of little
details that sometimes make for a spectacular play.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Oh, I wouldn't say I work on it too much
at all, you know, I just let my instincts take
over at that point.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
That's just how I am.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
I know other guys work on that type of stuff,
but I just have a pretty good feeling of where
I'm at on the field or if I need to
use one or two hands on the ball.

Speaker 8 (03:38):
Is that one of the things that it's one of
the things that you do work on, is you know,
trying to trying to run a route without giving that
route away, and what does that what does that process
look like in terms of like your footwork, which way
your hips are going, which way your eyes are going,
et cetera, to try and get the cornerback, less information
to work with as you're trying to get open.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
It's a lot of work, you know. It's the things
that people don't see that we work on.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Not in the lights.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
So just having that feel of not trying to dictate
your routes or just just working on your game in general,
I feel like that helps a lot. With with no
one like trying to make everywhere else look the same.

Speaker 8 (04:17):
It almost feels like you're practicing dance books, you know
what I mean? Like, yeah, yeah, you go over and
over and over again, take the foot work with just right.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Literally yeah, literally, that's how it is.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
But you know, just sometimes we're all humans, so we
make mistakes and sometimes that we will give way a route,
or we might slip on a on a break this
and there. So I mean, it's it's just a matter
of just being intentional with your with your fundamentals.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Jailing.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
My friend Davis here physically threatened me if I didn't
want to ask you a question, So I'm gonna ahead
let him do it.

Speaker 7 (04:43):
Go ahead, what's your favorite part of being a wide receiver,
you know.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Just just bring that incitement to the game and just
having fun out there with with the office line, the
running backs to the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
You know, it's just fun being out there.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
If you were on the defensive side, what would you
what position you replay? Because I think we all saw
the tackle this past weekend when it looked like you
were a tiger waiting to attack somebody. Is that something
you'd like to try at some.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Point if it calls for me? You know, but I'd
rather make the catches and touchdowns. So sure, you definitely
don't touch the ball as much on defense, but I
wouldn't mind it. I'll probably play safety if I had
a choice.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
You, it did look as if when he was running
towards you, you kind of sized him up and waited
for him. Can you take me through that moment? Did
Was that what was happening? Because that's how it looked
for the most part.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Yeah, I mean I knew he was going to come
back to where I was, and I just found that
little void to where he can only go through that way,
and I seen him running full speed at me, So
I wasn't gonna let him like run me over anything
like that. No, I just made a great tackle.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, did you specifically try to knock the ball out
as well? Or was that just something that happened because
of the violence of the tackle.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I kind of just wanted to hit him.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Yeah to you afterwards because he looked so mad at
himself for fumbling.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
But did he say anything to you after the game
or after the hit?

Speaker 8 (06:06):
He did?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
He did? You know? He thought he was gonna run
me over. So we had a little bit of a
laugh to there.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
Just just just two competitors, you know, And I made
a great play on him, and he made a great
play to just started off with the interception. So it's
just a competitive aspect of me to just go out.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
There and play my heart out.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Did you play both sides of the ball in high school?

Speaker 3 (06:27):
In high school? I did, Yes.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
My last year I played a little bit of safety.
So that's why I feel more comfortable that. Where'd you
play high school football? Mishoal Gorman in Vegas? Oh Man Gorman?

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Okay, sweet, Yes, it's it's it's for those of you
that are not big Las Vegas people or high school
football people, it's kind of insane when you're flying out
of Vegas how you can see. It's like you can
see the Great Wall of China from the moon. You
can see Bishop Gorman from almost every airplane because it
just looks absolutely massive. It's like a pro it's like
a pro level program. Just it's a high school in

(06:59):
Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Literally, that's all it is. That's all it is. Did
you did you win a couple of state titles out there? Oh? Yeah,
we won four when I was there.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
We won, we went we went all four, and then
we had a couple of national championships that we won
there as well.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
My goodness, man, So are you from there or do
you move there to go play football? I moved there
to go play from where? From California? From California to
Las Vegas.

Speaker 7 (07:23):
Who were some of your high school teammates that are
now in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Cededric Tillman the receiver for the Browns. Revon Jordan tight
end for detections, my boy Kyu Kelly cornerback for the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
So we got we got a couple of guys there
that's like an all star team.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yeah, that's really something. So you've done a lot of winning,
and uh, this has it's been a tough year. For
Vikings fans, Vikings coaches, everybody, and specifically have a guest
for the players. How are you holding up mentally right
now with the season.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Uh, you know, I feel fine.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
You know, we still got five more games to go
and compete, and I'm just decided to still have those
opportunities to go play football. So no matter what the
record is, you know, I feel like as football players,
we want to go out there and play, so we're
just gonna give all each week.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
You said something interesting to Ben Lieber a couple of
days ago about how as a receiver there's not really
much you can do when it comes to who plays quarterback,
whether it's Carson Wentz or McCarthy or Brosmer. And obviously
the ball has to be caught no matter who's throwing it.
But again, like, how long does it take you to
get used to somebody like, you know, how many reps
did you have this season with Brozember Before last Sunday?

Speaker 5 (08:32):
I say, I have had a good amount, you know,
throughout OTA's training camp and come times throughout practice. So
I mean it wasn't a big big change changeover for me.
You know, I just see it as as soon as
we gotta get open, and we got to make it
easy on a quarterback as we can and just catch
the ball when it's thrown to us.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
It's got to be a great feeling knowing you get
to go back to US Bank Stadium and play a
noon game and get back and everything, you know, normal
as it comes to football.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Of course, you know, we got the best fans in
the league, so to be able to have a few
more opportunities to play out in front of them, you know,
it's a blessing.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Jalen, who's got the worst fans in the league. Let's
just be honest because we have a Philadelphia Eagle fan
over here. I'm not gonna plant out who they are
or anything like that, but I think would you agree
that the Philadelphia is like the worst fans?

Speaker 3 (09:23):
He's not wrong, Chrissy. Would you like to defend them
at all? I don't think she.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
The people who hosted the Phili of Eagles tailgate when
it was here said that the Ravens fans three weeks
later were much worse.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
I haven't played in Baltimore by playing in Philly, and
it's it's not fun.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Would you like to apologize for all Philadelphia Eagles things.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
No, that's what I figured out. Shocking. Yeah's your wife
right there, John Cee. Uh.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
You went to Michigan State, right, They have a new coach, right,
Pat Pitzgerald going back from from Northwestern now to UH
to Michigan State.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Your thoughts about him re urging in the Big Ten.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
I love that. I love that move that that we made.
You know, I played against a couple of Northwestern teams.
You know, they always fought hard. So just to have
that kind of kind of guy leading the team out
next year, I think it's gonna be funnier for us.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Tell me about JJ McCarthy, would you. I'm obviously I've
never met him, none of us here in the audience
probably ever. Have you know him very well. You've seen
him in highs and lows. You've seen him in his
best times and divorced times. Talk to me about his
demeanor and how you think he's doing right now.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
I feel like he's doing well. You know, he's just
eager to get back, get back on the practice field
and get back to playing with the guys. Man and
his energy that he brings in the day in and
day out, it goes.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
It goes unmatched. So just to have him and have
him be our captain.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
You know, that energy that he brings, he gives us
a little edge when we when we go out there
and play.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Is there a such thing as throwing a football too hard,
because that's been one of the criticisms of McCarthy is
that he basically throws the rocket ball all the time.
No Tom Brady on a TV broadcast a couple of
weeks ago, So that can be learned, that can be talts.
You feel about the fastball that he throws, It's.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
It's tough to it's tough to judge sometimes because we
don't have the laces on the ball, so we can't
tell or or the stripes on the balls, so we
can't really tell how much velocity is going into that throw.
So sometimes when you hear him throw, you can actually
hear the ball whistle out of his.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Hand, so eez. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
So he does put a lot into it, and you know,
there are certain moments where you do need that fast
ball and certain moments you don't. But that's part of
his learning process, the things that he has to work on.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
So if the ball had stripes, you think it'd be
a lot easier. Is that what you're saying, Yeah, because
you can tell how bad. Yeah, the rotation college ball. Yeah,
so just like just like the seams on a baseball,
if you saw it coming out of his hands and
the stripes were there, you'd be able to judge it faster.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Wow, that makes a ton of sense. Never thought of
it like that.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
You said something to Ben Lieber in the locker room.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
We were talking to the other day as well about
the different calls for the quarterback or something that I
can't remember exactly how you put it, but we played
it yesterday back and I found it interest. Is it
a situation when the quarterback is up under center and
changing the play? Is that where you were referencing. Sometimes
it's it gets difficult to hear what's going on, or
it's different from quarterback to quarterback.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Uh No, not really.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
It's more of a just hearing the calls in the huddle,
and then when he does check to those type of plays,
we all remember what that second play is.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
So, but sometimes it is it is hard to hear
on the road.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
Just just being verbal within the receiver room, you know,
to give each other the signals that can signals things
like that, but it's a matter of just communicating over communicating.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
And it probably helps to do it over and over
and over again with the same guy, and that's why
the injuries have been so hard, right, Yeah, of course,
anybody go.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Ahead, Marty. Why I though you had your hand up.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
M Sorry, I don't have my glasses.

Speaker 7 (12:46):
I can't see from here, Jalen, I had already asked
you about if you work on the toe tap or
the circus catches or anything like that, do you take
extra special care of your hands, especially in the winter
time to get those cracked fingertips for some people, some
people sleeping in gloves because you're a guy who makes
his money with his hands, what kind of extra special

(13:08):
care do you take on a regular basis of them hands?

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Nothing?

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Really, he just you creeped out, Jalen Naylor. I guess
he's on stage with us, giving us his time and
you just creeped him out.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Are they sure? Are they huge? Hands on? Little hands?
Minds are too big? I could play mines aren't too big?

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Yeah? Yeah, Cory is disagreeing, but I'm just thinking, like
j Lo has her butt insured, right, I think a
lot of NFL receivers should have their hands insured.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
What if? What if you lose a hand in a
farming accident.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
We're never going to get another biker's guest. It's never
gonna happen. Just saying, man, make that money, Jaalen farm.
I don't know if Jalen farms or not. Who knows,
Maybe he does not at all. What do you do
for fun outside of football? Not farming? I played video games?

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Yeah? Which one? Two K? Call? Du Do you play
MLB the show? Because I do? You gotta play it.
It's the best sports video game of all time. I do.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
I do play it, but it's been it's been a
while since I haven't played it.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
It's super fun. I love it. Yeah, I love it.
I love it.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
So now you're an avid indoorsman. When you were younger,
you went outside and played sports?

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Yes, got it? Yes? What was that like? I mean
going outside? That was fun. Did you have friends and
stuff too? Yeah? That sounds awesome, sounds super cool? Yeah,
sounding good life. Good for you, dude, absolutely So we're here.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
For toys for tots again. Jalen Naylor is our guess
in case you're just tuning in, But obviously we appreciate
you being out here and talk to me about Uh,
you have little ones?

Speaker 3 (14:41):
You your family's ready for Christmas? Have you got the
tree up.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
And everything ready to go?

Speaker 3 (14:45):
The tree is up and that is it.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah, yeah, that's why you're here a Shields today. Time
to load them up.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
I should do some shopping myself.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
That's tough though, Like we we just did that story yesterday.
Was it like somebody in Michigan had their entire all
the package is opened and stolen.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
It's like, well, why did you have your pressure under
your tree a month ahead?

Speaker 1 (15:06):
You're more upset at them than you are about the
people who broke into their house.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
If I remember right, the guy like after he broke
into the house and he took a nap on the
couch and we didn't even like break in and steal him.
He opened them all up and then took a nap.
What are you doing either rob him or don't? Right, Jamen,
we don't know each other that well. But I got
you a gift.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
I brought you this.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Oh I love that's pretty good, right, I don't have
any pajamas.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, this has got a hood on and everything like that.
It's it's covered in cats and like that. So I
don't know something about I knew it. I knew you
were gonna like to do we have to pay you?
But how much?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
How much would we have to pay to wear that
on the field during warm ups on Sunday? You're thinking
about it?

Speaker 3 (15:49):
I love Dmount. It's different to you, and I don't
think I can go out like that. We'll pay the fine.
Isn't there a fine? We'll pay the fine. Is it
like one hundred bucks? All right? Then you're on your own.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Mike cleat's my cause. Last week, my pajamas, my cause,
let's go, let's go.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Okay, that's pretty I got a matching parent cash.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
You're wondering what are the ages of your kids?

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Uh? Two and three?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Two and three?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Do they already? Did they show interest in playing football?

Speaker 3 (16:25):
No? No interest? But watching They they love to watch.

Speaker 7 (16:28):
And as a parent, how would you feel if you're
two in or are they boys girls?

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Girls?

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Flag football? Coming up?

Speaker 5 (16:35):
I mean possibly, if they were into it, I would
I wouldn't mind it because.

Speaker 7 (16:40):
Sometimes sometimes we as parents, you get that extra protective
layer of I know I did that, but I don't
want you to do that, whether it's you know, cracking
a beer in high school or playing football.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
It's like White Sauce isn't a lawyer, right, His dad
didn't want him to follow in his footsteps, right for
the same reasons. Yeah, yeah, are you?

Speaker 7 (17:02):
What kind of girl dad are you like? How would
you describe yourself your parenting?

Speaker 5 (17:06):
I think I'm very soft with them. I'm I'm let him.
I let him do what they want. I let him
get whatever they want.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
You're the good cup in the relationship. I'm the good cup. Yeah,
definitely the same. I'm definitely a good cup.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Well, I'll tell you, Kayle. We appreciate you getting up
early coming out here. Let's let's make some more as
we get ready to go into the US Bank Stadium.
I know that obviously the fans, uh, you know, they're tough.
They they they deserve to be at certain times, but
they love this team, so uh, we're all rooting for you.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Man.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Good luck and thank you for good time. I appreciate you,
grank having thanks

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Much time, jam, thank you very much, appreciate it very much.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
