Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen on a Vikings victory. Tuesday, your friend
of mine, Jonathan Gernard joins the Power Trip morn show. Congratulations,
what a great game, Jonathan. Great to have you on
the show.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Man, great to be back. Great to get a w man.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Do we want to start everything off by you go
ahead and confronting meet Sauce about his prediction and how
it worked out?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Again?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
So I cannot at least ask what was the prediction
this time?
Speaker 4 (00:24):
They told me that nobody would tell me what his
prediction was. They just said it was you should ask
him about it.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
So I think it was.
Speaker 5 (00:30):
I think it was one hundred to four.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
I think that's what it was.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Geez yep, geez me something I mean. But to be honest,
you where are you from?
Speaker 5 (00:39):
I'm from here. I grew up here.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Oh man.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
I thought you might be from like Green Bay or
Destort or something. I just I'm just west some excuses.
Where So why are you losing hope? Don't lose hope?
Just is this You're supposed to be a fan?
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Well I am, and you told me to go the
exact opposite way. So now I go even worse. But
now that when I know that I have to talk
to you now.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I think, Okay, I forgot after that.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Listen, if you're going by that logic only, if you're
going by that logic from that, then maybe we can
have an understanding.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
But you know, anything other than that than yeah, we
have to. We have to have a little talk on
the side or something.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Man, No, I love this team. I love this team
since like the nineties, I'm liver or die with this
till after you do, I get frustrated and after you
told me pick as bad as you can. So on Sunday,
you guys are going to lose a thousand to two.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Well, if it helps, it's definitely giving us bullets and
board materials, so you know, at least you're doing that
part by giving us some type of demo.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
But one hundred is crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Men, Listen, I'll give a realistic score, but one hundred
is man, Lord a mercy, Jonathan.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
We we go out to see how don't we know
what happens? Then we come home and we play that
game last week? How does a team how does a
game change so much week to week like that?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean, as we all know, man, this game
is just crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Last.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I mean, this past week was just one of those
where everything just kind of went right for us. You know,
we had the big splash plays. You know, we took
care of the ball on offense, we took the ball
away on defense, and especial teams just didn't have any youternalities,
So we just played really well, round of complimentary football.
We wish all the games go that way. Just we
know that, you know, certain plays happened, certain plays, don't
you know, it does go our way, doesn't you know,
(02:24):
maybe a ball bounces.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
A different way, or a tip happened. So we said
it all years, so for us to finally get that
and everything go outway is just a good thing for
the locker room.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
Yeah, Nordog, it was awesome to watch on Sunday. I
can't imagine how fun it was to play in. And
you have talked before and most athletes do about maintaining
just that steady presence. Don't get too high, don't get
too low. But you have got to have had moments
of just hooting and hollering a little bit after the
win on Sunday and the way everything went down.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
No, it's so hard to get winsday and you have
to enjoy them and celebrate him for a time. I mean,
like I said, we played really good ball all the
way around.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
We put up a goose egg.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
I mean, I don't know how when the last time
has happened, but a goose egg is a gooseg I
don't care how it happens. So, no matter what your
record is, whatever's going on, to be able to do
that to an NFL team, it's something you should definitely
be proud of. Obviously, the record.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Isn't what we're what we're proud of, but you.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Know, I understand we only can handle one game at
a time and understand those things in the past. So
we just took that mindset going into this game, just saying,
don't worry about last game, you know, just clear mind
and just play free. Obviously it's a home we're at home,
so we got to protect the home field. So it
just made it that much better obviously for things to
go right, and looking forward to do that again.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Obviously come up Sunday night.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
The offense went on a nineteen play, ninety eight yard
drive that took twelve minutes in one second off the clock. Now,
boredom is the wrong term, but is there a point
where you're like, what is like you can look at
the film, you can talk to all your teammates, but
is there a point where you guys like got up
and like moved around to stay loose. That's a long
time for the offense to be on the field.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
I definitely sat on the bench and enjoy getting that
rest of my legs, letting the offense, you know, wear
that defense down, because yeah, I get it. You know,
sometimes you may stand up, walk around, but ultimately, man,
we were just chilling. We were already kind of warmed
in general just because.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
We were starting out the game.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
But yeah, we love when offense does that to defenses
to keep such as be able to just ready and
be you know, in the mindset is just ready to
go handle our bench whenever it's our time and it's
not like a sudden change or something. So whenever we
can keep them on the ball and keep them on
the field and they're moving it like they were and
obviously ended it with a touchdown, man, that's that's just
great for us and obviously takes more opportunities away from
the other team.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Jonathan Gernard again is our guest here on the powers
to morning shown. We appreciate it very much. Here comes
a stupid football question, but something I was just thinking
about for the first time. When you're lined up on
the line of scrimmage playing defense, and you're on one
side and let's say Van Ginkles on the other side,
what percentage of the time are are you guys mirroring
each other when it comes to whatever the defensive play
call is where you're you both have the exact same
(05:06):
responsibilities on other sides of the ball.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
So work that question a little bit different because I
kind of understand you're going with it.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
But again, yeah, like so, let's say Van Gink's on
the other side of the ball from you, and you're
both obviously lined up on defense on a defensive play call,
are most of the time you both let's say, crashing
to the quarterback, rushing to the quarterback, or both of
you have contained on the outside. Are you and mirroring
each other on each play?
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Gotcha? Gotcha?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, sometimes we do mirroord things where we do the
same things. Other times he's been coverage ago and we
really can switch it up. I think that's the thing
our versus could with our system is sometimes we can
send him. Sometimes we can send me some some of
the send Dallas. We can all of us are define
capable of dropping. But yeah, it just depends on the
play call and the game plan that week. Majority of
times we know that Gang is usually the drop, her
(05:57):
hints forward, all the picks and all the other crazy
and coverage that he does.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
But that's just his game.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I mean he's been doing that obviously since he's been
in Flow system and kind of understands the coverage concepts
a little bit more. Doesn't mean I don't, but he
just listen when you make plays by him. Man, he
definitely has owned that and he does a lot of
you know, work behind the teams to understand how we're
going to be played and what place to expect when
you're playing on top of defense. So yeah, he can
definitely be mirrored, but definitely we we have our roles
(06:24):
that time.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
On Sunday, you play at Dallas on Sunday Night football.
On offense that has they get the most yards per
game in the NFL. What's the plan to slow that
offense down?
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, not switching enough. I think Flows gonna have a
great plan.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Obviously, you know, Dallas is a very talented team, like
you just mentioned, you see how they get their explosives.
They will have a good run game to obviously open
those pass and wings up, and then Dass playing phenomenal
obviously in turn games where he's just letting it loose
and he's still one of the top quarterbacks o when
it comes to his arm talent. So just knowing it's
(07:04):
gonna be finding some game. Obviously he's a big quarterback
in this league. You definitely know that when whenever they
get the opportunities to air it out, they're definitely gonna
do that.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
So we just.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Got to make them uncomfortable, get after him and definitely
try to make it to where he throws.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Was one of one of those thicks. Definitely like he
you know, because.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
When you have all the power like that and he's
the dynamic quarterback with a dynamic arm and get uh,
you know, those opportunities to try to send it deep
and things we kind of really haven't seen much of,
you know obviously when we're playing these teams to kind
of throw it short, you know, flat routes and kind
of check downs and stuff. So I can see him
open it up and trying to throw it throw a
deep and that's where opportunities would come.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
A few weeks from today. Not to get ahead of it,
but you guys playing Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Excuse me?
Is that something as a team everybody looks forward to.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, it's definitely an honor.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
I mean, you know, thankfully we have it at home
as well, so you know, obviously we get to be
with the family and not have to be on the
plane before or after christ So but we definitely love it.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Me. It's a it's a division game.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I mean, what better day to do it.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Obviously we already had a w up there so too.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
We know they're going to come back in and try
to with a vengeance, and that just adds more few
to us.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
We're protecting the home crowd.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Christmas Day families always found one of the only games on,
so we're excited.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Man. We decided to put a challenge, especially being Detroit and.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
You got a Sunday night game this weekend, and of
course Sunday Night Football obviously NBC the big production and
a lot and part of that you get to do
the introduction of yourself on the on the screen. Any
fun plans for that are you just gonna stick to
the usual name in college.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Now, I've always just kept my high school, which was one.
I always said hi in high school because I get
a lot of heat for it, you know, me going
to colleges, being at Louisville and then going to Florida.
So I keep it simpling by just going side on
my high school so they get they get all of the.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Is there a number that you've got in mind that
I can pay you that would get you to introduce
yourself as a meat sauce Jonathan Gernard.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Listen, if they were able to let us redo it,
I would definitely take you up on that. But I
tell you what, Mark, We're gonna try to do it
next year, so I'm gonna definitely make sure that we
can get that word up.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
We love having you on the show Man. Thank you
so much for coming on, and good luck to Sunday.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
We'll talk to you soon, yes, sir, appreciate y'all. Have
a good one later.
Speaker 6 (09:21):
Thanks Jonathan
