DearS kfans, Ron Johnson and Eric Nordquist.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Good evening, Welcome to Vikings Fanline. I am Nordo from
nine to noon. Eric Nordquist, Ron Johnson is with me
Max Fuller, producers watching the Timberwolves. By the way, Man,
the Spurs were on just a nice little run over
a three four minute period, weren't they, Max.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I think they were up by seven or eight and
here come the Howl. Maybe back in the mix.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Tied at thirty seven, We're home for Timberwolves basketball early stages,
second quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Oh, it's Vikings fan Line.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I'm sorry the Vikings have been shut out for the
first time since I believe a border battle that took
place in November of two thousand and seven be eighteen years.
Some people throwing around I haven't done the math to confirm.
Don't need multiple sources or a Wikipedia check. Sounds like
somewhere in the neighborhood of nearly three hundred games since
we since we saw something with with what we witnessed today,
(01:26):
Ron Johnson's gonna provide the analysis not just those on
hold on the phone lines, but also the talkback machine
free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Hit the microphone, give us up to your best thirty seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Currently trying to log into with quadruple authentication, the KFA
and Brats on Bryant text line. We'll get to that momentarily,
but first to the phones. Justin and Iowa. Justin, Welcome
to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Hey guys, how you guys doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Very well? Thank you?
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Yeah, hey, I just want to want to talk right
quick that our defense played today. It just lights out amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
But to everybody that thought that Max Brosmer was supposed
to be our hero because they were just hating on McCarthy,
I mean, his passer rating today was even worse than
McCarthy's game against the Packers. I mean McCarthy one day,
whether it's with the Vikings or not, and I pray
(02:24):
to God it's with the Vikings. He will have a
super Bowl win. But Max Brosmer is not the answer.
Even if McCarthy is hurt, I mean, I don't know,
but I'm I'm sure he played his hardest and he
played his best whatever, but his best surely wasn't good enough.
And that picked sixty three with those four other four interceptions,
I mean, that was just ridiculous. I mean, who throws
(02:44):
that ball? Yeah, I'll hang up and hear what you
guys have to say.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I appreciate you taking my call.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I appreciate it, justin expectations, I know many because of
the way JJ was playing Ron. I mean, we want
to see what Max has right. That was kind of
the idea we were here. I think last week you
had you had mim ye had everybody texting you and
just like, why don't we put McCarthy or why don't
we put bros.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And I was shout out.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
To mim GM at Fox and I yeah, she, I
mean she wanted it. I'm pretty sure, Pat Kessler, you
know that's a Barns guy.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know, Kessie, he wanted it.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
Too.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
I'm pretty sure everybody did. I mean, I'm a I'm
a former Gopher. I wanted to see it.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
I was laughing all week because I was pounding the
table and I still I believe this, But it was
just kind of the idea, if he's healthy, that was
the one caveat I put in, and I said, look,
he's healthy, JJ's got to play all the reps correct. Well,
then suddenly we get, you know, concussion terrorism.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Here we are. I I can't speak for you, Ron.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I didn't have immense expectations one way or the other.
I thought the undrafted kid was put being put in
an awful spot correct to make that start today, and.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Then it does.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
It does feel like anytime it's a coin flip of
whether Christian Darisaw will or will not play. He does
not choose to play, and and so you're you're working
without your top two, your preferred left tackle and left guard.
I didn't think he was set up necessarily in the
best way for success, but I guess, you know the
(04:10):
idea of maybe some just get rid of JJ. Obviously
Brozmer is going to be better. I'm sure there were
fleeting opinions out there in that regard. But in the end,
I didn't anticipate with all jokes aside, that Brozemer was
going to go out for three hundred and three today.
I mean, this was a tough defense on the road.
Everything stacked against Brosmer, and he responded in kind with
(04:31):
the four point two per attempt in the four picks today.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
I just look at when you put Josh Dobbs on
a short week, you bring them in that offense was
extremely simple, right, yeah, extremely simple. I feel like Max Brosmer,
because he's been here for what eleven weeks, sat on
the bench, right, was asked to do something that you're
looking for a perennial like starter to do.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
He's not a perennial starter.
Speaker 6 (04:56):
He's an undrafted free agent rookieuarterback. Even if you had
a first round pick rookie and this is his very
first game, you're not like expecting him to go out
there and just kill it right and just absolutely murder
the scene. Now, there are some guys, you know Andrew Luck,
(05:16):
but you know you can go back to like Peyton
Manning's very first game or not saying Max Broseman is
that I'm just saying as a rookie for his very
first game. At no point, I don't think now again,
I'm gonna watch the All twenty two tomorrow Tuesday, that
he had a three step drop. There was no quick
game in there. JJ McCarthy hasn't had it either, though, right,
Like this offense is built to try to attack vertical.
(05:38):
You have the weapons to attack vertical. You don't have
the quarterbacks to attack vertical. You don't have the offensive
line to attack vertical. Right, the Seahawks have the offensive line,
they have the running game. That's why on first down
they are the number one running team or sorry, offense
efficiency wise on first down, third down.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
They don't face it a lot, you know.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
Like I talked about that on the pregame show Me
and a Mad and Mark Rosen I did a whole
three minute drill of that of Seattle. He gets the
ball out of his hands quick. He's willing to like
make a play and go ten yards right, seven yards
slant your receiver go. We don't do that, you know,
I don't know why the Vikings don't do that. Like
(06:20):
Justin Jefferson can run a slant better than anybody. I
don't know if anybody's done the math. I'm not gonna
spend my time, but I don't feel like he's run
a lot of slant routes this year now, Like it
just feels like everything is down the field, even the
interception on the scene right right, that's that's quarters.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
You have to have a quarters beater. Four verticals.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Now, I don't know what the back two receivers are doing,
but two verticals to the side of the two guys
in quarters. You are not gonna win that battle. You're
not unless you attack the outside corner. But if the
outside corner doesn't feel like his quarter of the field
is being pressured, he's gonna migrate. Insight, he's doing it.
He's backpelling watching number two. He has number one on
(07:01):
his butt and he's staring at number two.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
It's quarters. You can't throw that.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
So I don't know if Max didn't know that coverage
or if that's what he's being told to like, that's
gonna be where it's open run a like the It
could be a back shoulder or whatever. He could have
hit the back shoulder on the outside receive. Not again,
I don't know where the flat guy was because I'll
watch that back, but.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I'm pretty sure that should have been like some kind
of stop.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
Route on the outside at about twelve to fourteen yards,
let the quarter's corner fall off, or just run something
short that makes him stop. So now your seam is
versus the number two safety who's probably flat footed. Or
if you gonna attack quarters outside guy, run a post
inside guy, run a sit like we saw Jackson Smith
(07:43):
and Jigbus score against the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Like that, he just ran a post on quarters.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
You make number one think, okay, I don't have anybody,
so I'm gonna let you go. You make number two
think I gotta stop the guy hooking up in front
of me, and you run a post over behind him.
But you got to have the offensive line for the
time to do that. But I like, I have that
play on my phone from Sam Darnold. I don't know
how much time Seattle gave him. But again, we're letting
guys run free at times, and neither quarterback has time.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
So I don't know where the blame goes in this.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
But I still don't understand why Justin Jefferson doesn't run
slat routes like he is one of the best receivers
in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Run a quick one step. Just give him the ball.
See what he does?
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Like, why are we running down the field fifteen yards
with that offensive line asking a rookie who was not
a top draft pick to do this throw?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Like we can blame Max.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
Yeah, that's a bad throw, that'sys, but it's also like
you know what he can do? You know, like you
do know that, Like you're not gonna put your ten
year old on the trigger and say hey, I need
you to watch this.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
You're not gonna do that physically on the trigger, Like, yeah,
you load it up.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
You go grab that turkey, you put it on the trigger.
You CEIs in it, and it's easy. Just use my
app on my phone. Like the ten year old's gonna
screw it up.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
You're gonna make it easy.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
You're just gonna say, hey, the tragger's going when my
phone beats, come get me. That's what you tell your
ten year old to do.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
I let them take the brush with the butter and
matter up the turst so they feel like they're helping,
but no, they don't physically operate exactly.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
But that's that's like his first game. Make it like
Josh Dobbs's first game. So they make it extremely so.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
So the football version of that is one step slant. Yeah,
here's here's a brush for butter.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Little five yard curl, ten yard curls like simple, like
he was killing it with the the hockins and stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Hawkinson probably should have had. I would have just kept
doing that.
Speaker 6 (09:32):
Give him fifteen catches in the middle of the field,
just say, look, if you're gonna give me this, I'm
gonna take this. I'm gonna dink and dunk you down
the field. The patience level is not there. It's like
they cannot matriculate down the field. I think they have
the lowest number of ten play drives in the league
right now.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Just like it's it's patience.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
All this is that That's been a multi year conversation though,
which I do want to expand on with you here.
Let's jump back into the phones, uh maybe more specifically
on the coach in this offense.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
CJ and sat All. CJ. Welcome to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 7 (10:04):
Hey, thank you for taking my call. How are you
guys doing good?
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Doing well? What do you got.
Speaker 7 (10:12):
Hey? I guess the you know. My take on it
is like we're running the Kirk Cousins drop back pass
or offense. You know, we're not that good per se,
you know, as far as quarterbacks go. But you know,
let's do it like a double reverse, Let's do a
(10:34):
half back pass, Let's do a stunting because you know,
you know, five stop drop and getting killed is you know,
that's the reason we're four and seven. Yeah, you know,
let's you know, you know what I mean. You know,
it's just unimaginable that we all spread out and we
(10:56):
all have this you know, great thing, but you know,
they're there's no motion, there's no you know, imagination. But
you know, you know, how about a half back pitch
to the half back and he throws it back to
Justin Jefferson and he throws a touchdown pass or something
(11:16):
that's terrific because it's really it's really not imaginable because
we all just stand on the line and everybody figures
it out. You know, It's it's not that difficult for
you know, if you're a defense playing the min Minnesota
Vikings right now, all you have to do is just
(11:38):
rush the quarter.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, I appreciate that, CJ.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
And Yes, the lack of predictability right now, the lack
of the complimentary run game being part of it.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah, many factors in that.
Speaker 6 (11:50):
Hey, question for you though, Nordal so fairness in Millmac right, Fema,
she just texts me because she's listening.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Love Milm.
Speaker 6 (11:56):
Shout out to Milm again. But she said she wasn't
saying Papa makarthy in. She was saying, if the game
is no, if the game's out of hand, why browsmer
and go in? Then JJ, McCarthy doesn't have a concussion.
So what are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Are you?
Speaker 6 (12:09):
Is it McCarthy needs to just we need to play
them so we can see what we have or you know,
like cause that's where she's She wasn't saying he should
just be in. She's saying take McCarthy out. Games over,
You're not gonna win this one. Why is he still
in there?
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
No, Hey, First of all, all opinions are are good
and valid, and I was excited to get to see
what Max had.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
So it's all love to mim and everybody here. Here's
what I'll say.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
And I'm not against that, right, I mean, you're you're
just getting housed at Lambeau last week, Like why not
put Max in? And just I mean just be done
correct with what we were seeing sadly from JJ. Either
JJ McCarthy, as I put this with Muss a while ago.
Either JJ and Max are two of the worst rookies
(12:51):
slash young players second year for McCarthy. Either they're the
worst players two of to ever play the sport of
football and the quarter position. So either that's the case,
just one game for Max, six for McCarthy. So these
are really harsh generalizations that I'm diving headfirst into, happy
to do it.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Either that's the case, which is.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
A massive indictment of the decision makers that put these
two kids in that spot.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, Or.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
There is a problem with how they are being raised.
They are a problem. There's a problem with the position
that JJ and Max are being put in, which is
also a massive indictment of the decision makers. So I
don't know which one is correct. Possibly it's a blend
of both. Specifically with the undrafted cat love Max, maybe
(13:47):
he's not going to be a rock purty story that
and something we can cling to, and maybe there is
a bit of a local bias attached to him and
he's never going to be a multi time all pro QB.
I hope he gets an opportunity to prove, prove differently,
that's really best to luck to him and another.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
But somewhere, somewhere in there is the answer, and all
of it leads back to this thing is a freaking disaster,
and people inside the building have significant parts to play
in what we are watching with a four and eight team,
And right now we're we're sitting here, whether it's on
fan line or throughout the week. You know, JJ's a fraud.
(14:24):
JJ is terrible. H He's an absolute disaster. But in
the end, we're also sitting here going, I haven't seen
a slant. You do we do we mold the player
to match the scheme or do we mold the scheme
to match the player? And over the course of history,
which of those routes has proven more fruit?
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (14:44):
And that's why when Chaos says he feels like teams
fail young quarterbacks, I feel like this is why, because
when you realize they can't do it prophetic, When you
realize they can't do something, why force them to do it?
You know, like it's like letting your kid put on
the left shoe on their right foot and then they're
walking funny, and you just let them walk around funny.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
And let's get it, what their baby? Why not?
Speaker 6 (15:10):
And to their feet start hurting because they're like, wait,
my outside of my foot hurts. What is what's going on?
But a modd Hicks, You know a lot of people
are listening to this show. So mod Hicks his tweet says,
at what point do you realize six games for McCarthy
in one game for Brozemer is not enough to really
say if they're gonna make it, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Like, so, anybody that thinks they have the final answer
on these guys is out of their minds.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Correct, you have to let them.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
But and so to your point, though, when do you
simplify it and just say, look, they're not Peyton Manning,
they're not Tom Brady, they're not Drew Brees. Right now,
how do I simplify it and treat them like Josh
Dobbs again, Like, treat it like this guy is in
the building for short amount of time.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
How do I make them the best I can make him?
Right now?
Speaker 3 (15:54):
I don't even think we treated Josh Dobbs like Josh
Dobbs because that.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Thing gradually got worse.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
And where is actually the best moments of first got there,
didn't do it any It was Josh doabbswhen.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
He was running around the field blindfolded making people miss
also missing. TJ.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
Hawkins stores, yeah, past or not.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
He was on ESPN's like sit down with like.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
The top person, and then we tried to make him
a quarterback and the whole thing went south.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I mean, he took the world by storm.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Hey, let's let's pause and then we're gonna come back
and continue this conversation. Uh, Vikings lost twenty six to
nothing to the Seattle Seahawks today, they're now four and eight.
We know it's a non playoff operation. Defense played a
winning They absolutely made Sam Darnold's life hell today. If
you were wondering with six games left teams now in
the postseason, who's still got some gas left in the tank?
(16:48):
Look up and down that defense from Jalen Redman today,
Dallas Turner Sackson three straight, some really really good things
defensively coming out of that game today. And then there
was the other side of the ball, and we will
continue to talk about that. It's Vikings fan line. I
got full phone lines, I got talkbacks I want to
jump into and this is Minnesota Vikings Football the sports follow.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
The Leader Minnesota Sports Leader is FM one hundred point
three xen list Paul.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
The Fan, Welcome back Vikings fan line. Vikings embarrassed at
Luminfield today, twenty six nothing the final score. First time
in eighteen years the Vikings have been shut out in
the game.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
How about the Talkbacks?
Speaker 4 (17:37):
I hate this team.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
I was born and raised in southeastern Minnesota, and I'll
always be a Vikings fan, but.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
I just hate this team.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Good evening.
Speaker 10 (17:53):
This lost fall squarely on management, the coaching staff and Quazy.
The lack of attention to a second string quarterback going
all in with McCarthy when clearly he was not ready
shows us where we're at. This was complete embarrassment, a
(18:13):
waste of time and ineptitude.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
How the quietest keep the Talkbacks coming, Ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
This offense is complete trash. There is no recovery.
Speaker 9 (18:27):
I feel bad for Justin Jefferson as well as Jordan Addison.
They share up stuff if they can go to another team.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
This is ridiculous. How bad?
Speaker 9 (18:41):
How bad the GM messed up on the quarterback pick.
Our defense playing the best they can with what they got,
But our offense is complete.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
I must say, you must have ran out of thirty
seconds before I had to jump for the dump button.
That's cool ed, northeast Ed. Welcome to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 11 (19:02):
Hello, gentlemen. I loved Ron's analysis on where this team
was at with the offense. But a couple of things
I would say is I kind of think Koc should
give up play calling, just be a coach. You know,
we're down there after the turnover. At worst, we should
have went to halftime at three to three the way
(19:25):
that defensive played because they were coming after Donald. And
in retrospect, I'm not mad that the Vikings did not
sign Donald because if the Vikings can do that to him,
when we get to the playoffs, I guarantee the same
thing is going to happen. But I would say this also,
what's the difference between Koc and Zimmer they win in
(19:46):
the odd years, although Zim did get us playoff wins
and Koc hasn't. And I'm just really starting to question
his a coaching ability. And you know, at this point,
lose the rest of the game. If we can get
a top five draft pick, that would be fabulous. But
you know what, Cracy, you better nail it because with
(20:08):
our CAF situation. If I'm not mistaken, I think Nailer
is going to be a free agent. How are we
going to afford to sign him? So I will listen
to your comments and thank you.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, thanks, thanks for the call. I appreciate it. Uh
play calling duties. See the only thing you know, I'll
say this, this is not too dissimilar from JJ McCarthy.
It's not good enough. Let's see what Max has well.
I guess I don't know. There's a little bit of
curiosity in me, but it just it just seems illogical
that Ko would give the play calling duties to West Phillips.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Correct, It's a cute little thing they do in the preseason.
It gets to call a half. I think Flores has
done the same. I just I just don't anticipate that happening.
Dave and Tennessee Dave, Welcome to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 12 (20:57):
Hey, guys, I call once every couple years. I call
in Debrero once a year. I've called you guys in
the Cincinnati game a couple of years ago, where I
watched the beginning of the end of this offensive staff.
Let me just say it again, this is worse than
what I saw at Left Stuckle On if you either
(21:18):
one of you were alive back in nineteen eighty four.
I am completely disgusted and it's unwatchable. It's unlistenable. And
I've invested a lot of money in this team, and
I appreciate where y'all are in that area. You're working
for the team, So let me say it for you.
There's been several coaches that have left this organization. They
(21:41):
should have been hired. Let me start with Tony Dungee.
Let me continue with Mike Tomlin. Don't forget about the
coach it's in with the Raiders now. I'm sorry. It
was in was in Seattle for an year. Yeah, that
won Super Bowl. Yeah, Pete Carroll there. So I'm just
going to say it. This team does not adjust. And
(22:05):
you guys have said this. I'm not you know, I'm sorry.
My voice is love, but I'm so upset they don't
adjust to their talent and to the scheme. What I
don't understand is that Brian uh, you know, our b
Flow does it every week to week. He comes home
a different strategy. So, guys, this is not ineptitude, this
(22:26):
is not I could not believe it again today on
fourth and one when we go ahead and we passed
the football there. I'm a knowledgeable sports guy. I played
college football as well. I know the game and I
know what i'm watching, and this is a great team
with great leadership and ownership. But I'm telling you that
this you can see it, and when something happens, they disintegrate. Defensively,
(22:50):
they're doing all they can. Of course, they can't tackle.
That's a problem which I've had a problem with all year.
But our head coach and eeveryda does with you guys
a couple of weeks ago, says that they're tackling. So
my point is he is not looking at the film.
Seattle is they looked at the film and said fourth
and one, we know exactly what they're going to do,
(23:13):
and we're gonna go ahead and run the play for
you guys. I just gotta be honest with you. Thank
you for letting me go on for a few moments.
I'm sorry that I'm upset, but I am embarrassed and
I am completely disappointed, and I just think that this
organization needs to figure out what they're gonna do. And
I'm not trying to sit here and say, fire people.
I'm not going to sit here and try to always
(23:34):
blame Let's not always blame Cracy.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Okay, these guys.
Speaker 12 (23:38):
Are involved in his decision making.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
They are because.
Speaker 12 (23:42):
They're the head coach that's an expert, and they've got
Brian Flores on defense doing it. And so that is
my point. This is a collective overall collapse. I am
upset that he is so arrogant and so cocksuore and
so just emblazon on what he's gonna do. That he's
gonna do it no matter what. His press conference was listless,
(24:04):
and it's about time somebody starts asking him some questions
and pushing back on this because I'll tell you what, guys, Well,
we're facing here. We're facing a totally rebuild of this,
saying a year for now. It's not gonna I'm gonna
I'm gonna be objective guy. It's going to happen a
year for now. But if the Wills are listening to
this and nothing changes the next four weeks and these
(24:27):
things continue, then there need to be changes made immediately.
And I'm just disappointed. And when we had him in
the room, we didn't hire Horrball and don't tell me
that I'm a guy that's coming back on an armchair quarterback.
I've been disappointed with this guy for the last three years.
I didn't like what he did with Dobbs. He helped
him in a game, but when he needed to develop it,
(24:48):
he didn't develop it. Okay, and now they need these
decisions typically NFL. Rog's played in the NFL. When you
make a bad decision and you fail at the quarterback position,
did you get fired? You rebuild. He's lucky that he's
in the situation he's in right now. I appreciate you
guys letting me go on.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
I just cannot.
Speaker 12 (25:07):
This is the most embarrassed I have ever been as
as a misster the Vikings football fan. There's been a
lot of the expectations being so high. This has been terrible,
and I don't really see it getting any better. And
all of a sudden, you're gonna start losing some of
your talent that you're already wasting their years now of
their viability. And as far as Christian Darris is concerned,
(25:29):
get that straight play or sit down. You're hurting this franchise.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Oh call anytime, Dave. I do appreciate it. Not much
to analyze based on that. Thank you, Dave and tennessee
Stu in Las Vegas. Stu, Welcome to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 13 (25:48):
Stu, who are you talking to?
Speaker 5 (25:53):
Well?
Speaker 13 (25:54):
I have you?
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I think you're in Las Vegas.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
I mean my name is Dave?
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Is Dave?
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Well?
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Somebody wrote Stu on the call screener. Can can I
just for the sake of for the sake of the
next minute or so, can I just call you?
Speaker 5 (26:09):
All right?
Speaker 2 (26:09):
What do you What do you got? My brother? What
do you think?
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Hey? Damn man?
Speaker 2 (26:13):
So your name is Dave Man? What do I call you? Stu?
Speaker 13 (26:17):
That's okay, I'll get over it. You know, I remember boy,
So we'll just.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Go with that problem. What do you got man?
Speaker 13 (26:25):
I just want to say that I'm really disappointed in
in the Biking's brain trust, and I'm really concerned that
we'll be irrelevant for years to come unless unless McCarthy
turns it around and starts to get it. We've wasted
all of our cap space, and I let drafts over
the last several years have been abysmal, and I'm just
(26:45):
concerned that even if we lose the rest of the games,
you get a good draft.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Spot and go blow it.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Yeah, no, I I appreciate that, Dave, not Stu.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
I apologize.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Hope the seven oh two is treating you better than
it treated me the last time I was out there,
last time I was in Vegas. Speaking of Dobbs, I
had to watch that Raiders game.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Yeah, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Yeah, the long term, that's something that we're going to
have to dig into because the team's like thirty five
million over the cap next year, so decisions have to
be made.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I think arguments can be made.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Maybe maybe Eric Wilson was the best of the crop
in terms of the new faces to this roster this year. Defense,
not tackling, et cetera. I thought Dave and Tennessee basically
rattled off every potential issue that exists with the team
in sometimes concise fashion.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
But we appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Let me hit you with this ron not concerns in
terms of this team, but maybe it's part of it.
This team potentially, you know, having some issues moving forward
as we're kind of we're kind of back to where
we were at the beginning of the regime, where we're
trying to pick up the pieces figure out what we
want from a roster, building standpoint. At one point it
(27:55):
was about drafting effectively, getting younger and getting more financially flexible.
We're gonna have to see some of that taking place
this next spring. Alec Lewis, it was Max, said, Max
across the glass that told me this, left the locker room.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Without talking to reporters. Yeah, he was inactive. You don't
have to Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 6 (28:16):
Oh, I thought, he said, Oh jje I'm thinking, because Joe,
that's that's my bet.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
My bet is Macarthy, No, it is, it is. Yeah,
I'm never going to get that right.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
My fault.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
So Justin Jefferson, Justin Jefferson off to the locker room
without talking to reporters.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
Hey, he's pissed off. Well, so my grandmother wants to saying,
if you don't have anything good to say, don't say
anything at all. Oh, wise woman.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Indeed, here's my question, because I've heard this a lot.
I love Justin Jefferson, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
But why.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
I keep hearing with this quarterback situation, we're wasting his
prime years. We have to keep Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
Happy, to keep Addison happy. Now, you can't keep either happy.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Well, I don't know if Addison is I don't know
what makes Addison happy, to be honest with you, and
today a couple of drops, I can tell you they
did not make me happy. But whether it's free three
or it's number eighteen, I just the reason I bring
that up is if he's an emotional leader of this team,
(29:18):
if he's a driving force of keeping people's heads in
the game, and you start to lose his head, you know,
I frankly I'm not if we had kept Darnold and
the team won double digit games, but then you lose
in the wild card round, or you lose divisional et cetera.
In effect, you're still kind of wasting Justin Jefferson's prime years.
(29:41):
If that's how you're looking at it. It's just the
stat sheets are going to look a little bit better, right.
But I do think that when your leader starts to
get down, that becomes a problem that can spread well
beyond just him, Like, where's where's your head at on that?
In terms of just Justin Jefferson keeping him happy, how
much his emotional leadership might lead to good things or
(30:03):
bad things depending upon where he's at.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yeah, I mean, you gotta keep me happy, But what
does that look like?
Speaker 6 (30:10):
And here's where I go with this, so Brock party, right,
Everybody keeps saying this could have been a Brock pretty game.
Didn't throw a lot of balls through twenty one balls
in his NFL debut, one hundred and eighty five yards.
Not a lot of yards right, Two touchdowns passer rating high.
Two rushing touchdowns as well. Why because the offense is
extremely simple. It's get the ball out quick, it's get
(30:33):
it to your tight ends.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
It's a lot of motions and shifts.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Again, I don't I can't even remember a lot of
shifts today. You know, there were a couple of motions
that luckily they didn't call it. But like on the
justin Jefferson was off the line of scrimmage and Hockinson
was motioning, there was nobody to the left side of
the field, opposite the outside the tight end.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
There was little stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
So well, sometimes you see less of that on the road, though,
don't you What do you mean?
Speaker 6 (30:57):
Less motion is shit because of the stre Here's the thing, though.
The shift has nothing to do with the silent count.
The shift is this, I'm coming to line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
With enough time to do it. And I'm just shifting
to help my quarterback.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
See if everybody flips, there is some type of man
if nobody to do it though, And that's that again today,
that's a different conversation too, changed a little.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
First, what was it the first uh the.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Fourth down play they got out of the huddle with
like nine seconds left and the first uh false start?
Speaker 6 (31:27):
Nobody moved the center just didn't grab the ball, and
you have to pause. I think what I mean it
is a half a second or second. You have to
pause for a second. He came up, grabbed the ball
and just threw it back, so like little stuff like that,
like there were no procedural penalties up until that point.
And then he just snaps the ball without even coming
set because nobody moved. I was looking. I rewounded three times.
I'm like, nobody jumped. And then I'm like, oh.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Crap, he didn't wait.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
You gotta wait for a second and let the ref say, Okay,
he has the ball, he set. Now he snaps. He
can't just come up grab and snap it. So again
on the road, yep. But again the forty nine or
don't change their offense home and road. They steal shift,
they steal motion. It could be a siling count, which
is between the center and the quarterback the right guard
if that's your smartest guard. But again you got Jonathan Jackson,
(32:12):
so maybe you want to go with Fries on the left,
but your guard like the Eagles, because we got pissed
off about the Eagles. Remember their guard never comes set. Yep,
he moves and moves and moves because he's the guy
letting them know on the road it's okay to snap
the ball. Again, it's a copycat league. Sometimes you want
to do some of that stuff. Now we could say
they simplify it. They didn't want to put all that motion
and shift in there for Max Brosmer maybe, like I
(32:34):
don't know if anybody asks that question. If you're helping
Maxie the coverage, if you're helping Maxie, if his man's own,
like what is Max being taught? But if you want
to keep justin Jefferson happy, throw him seven hitches, throw
him four slants.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Just get him the ball, even if it's first down.
Just let him get five yards.
Speaker 6 (32:51):
Second down, let him get four yards, third and one
run the ball. You might have to do that nine times.
Who cares, it's gonna take time you took time.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Off the clock.
Speaker 6 (33:02):
You guys getting the ball, and you're not putting your
offensive line in a tough predicament and you're not punting
on three and out. So again it sounds simple, and
like we saw.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Harrison Smith and then it got to be simple for
Harrison Smith knocked down the ball.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Dallas Turner knocked down the ball because said Darnold was
trying to do the same thing. But what happened. Seahawks
don't go away from it. They eventually said, like, pump it,
let Van Ginko run by you and then throw it
underneath him because they're gonna jump on the first pump.
They start getting the Vikings with that. You saw Jayalen
Redman jump up. Then he threw it when Jayala Redman
was coming down. Like little stuff like that's how you
keep Justin Jefferson happy. You have to do that, even
(33:36):
if it's a bubble screen. Get him the ball like
he had was six six targets, four catches, two yards
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
It's crazy. It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
It truly is crazy. Oh my goodness, that's Ron Johnson.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
I'm Nordo. Max Fuller's here.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Vikings fan line Vikings absolutely throttled by the Seahawks today,
never stood a chance, shut out for the first time
in eighteen years. It was all ugly at Lumanfield today
save for a winning defensive effort. Once again, very lopsided,
non complimentary situation we have here with our favorite football team.
You're calls and talkbacks. Next, this is Minnesota Vikings football.
Speaker 14 (34:14):
This is Vikings football on FM one hundred point three
kfas head Get this now stream live to Minnesota residence
on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 15 (34:30):
Start with getting rid of Quasi and Grigson. You got
to rebuild that whole scouting staff. It's been garbage. And
I say that because their drafts have been garbage. It's
well documented. All you got to do is look at
all the injuries. The injuries happened to every team. But
guess what when you don't draft suitable backups that are
developing behind starters, this is the problem you get into.
Second thing is is Kaos has got to give up
(34:51):
play calling goods. You gotta find a guy that can
run his offense the way he wants it run, but
he is not talented enough to run it in game.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Talkback machine, it's Vikings fan line Vikings lose twenty six
nothing to the Seattle Seahawks at Lumenfield. It was a disastrous,
non competitive affair by your favorite football team who fall
to four and eight.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Totally big gang. Hey Dan from Robbinsdale.
Speaker 8 (35:20):
I I was really hoping for some excitement today.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
We didn't get that. Ummm, I don't know. Just looking
for a reason to keep watching, Okay, Jalen Redmondson, I
don't know. Okay, I go for another drink though. I
love you guys, We love you. Talkback machine.
Speaker 16 (35:46):
When are you guys gonna quit saying Kevin O'Connell's a
quarterback whisper.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
He's not.
Speaker 16 (35:51):
The Rams did not win a Super Bowl because of
Kevin O'Connell. They won it because Stafford's a first ballot
Hall of Famer. If anybody is a quarterback whisper, it's Sean.
Look at what he's done with bow Nicks. Look at
what he did for Drew Brees' career.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Oh I mentioned Sean Payton. Oh we're getting Sean Payton references.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yes, McVeigh needed Matthew Stafford to run his offense to
the highest of its capabilities. Interesting, Ben in Alabama, Ben,
welcome to Vikings fan line.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Hey, guys, I know a lot of heat's getting put
on Quincy tonight, and we need to put it on them.
This offense is terrible. I can't believe people are talking
about AOC tonight. Are you kidding me? This is cracy.
It's not even Donald or Daniel Jones. It's really about
(36:46):
his incompetence. You know, I called a couple of weeks
ago and we talked about how we signed so many
players over the age of thirty and them not producing.
But you don't sign players to pre agency to fix
your team. You need to fix your team by actually drafting. Well,
(37:09):
we have the best coach that well, we have the
best I think we're the best keep ups coach in
the NFL, and we have a top five offensive coach.
These these Minnesota uh you know, fans that think they're
actually fans of the team need to shut up. We
have KOC. The top five is they can't play with
(37:34):
the players that has brought in. I can't wait to
hear what you guys got to say about the worst
GM in the NFL. Thanks guys, love you.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
A lot of love going on is Thanksgiving week and
much to be thankful for I'm thankful for all the
listeners of Vikings fan line and the fan nine to
noon tomorrow and to figure out what what the sad
montage song is going to be the only thing I
would say again, you know Ron talking about this, I
mentioned this, you know, a couple months ago. It's like
it's October, any time to start talking about the GM
(38:11):
and going back in time. Things we can't change and
things that are definitely well. This is where the team
put themselves. Ron at four and eight and now from
from JJ to Carson WENTZ back to JJ. Didn't look good,
Head Hurts put in Max to where we are at
this moment. Uh, this this has just been a roller
(38:33):
coaster ride to hell and the and the talkability of
decision making, the talkability of injuries with backups that that
frankly just aren't they're not they're not coming backup's not coming,
you know, no help on the horizon here, I.
Speaker 6 (38:49):
Mean unless you mean like the Avengers, right, Captain America,
it's all as lost thanels.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
It's about to kill him.
Speaker 6 (38:56):
And then all of a sudden, doctor Strange's vision came true.
Everybody came back. After the Hawks snapped his fingers. Nobody's
snapping their fingers. I don't think nobody's getting the stones.
Nobody snapping their fingers, you know. So this is not
the marvel. Yeah, they're not all coming back. Like it's
like you're not gonna have Kirk Cousins walk back in
the building, you know, and save it, because I know
(39:16):
people are saying that, like, oh, they should have traded
for Kirk Cousins when you know, what's his name, Michael
Pennix was named the starter. Well, now Kirk is going
to play for a while with them, because Pennix's knee
looks like it's long term out.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
But one thing I'll say to it first though, I
do want to say so Purple.
Speaker 6 (39:31):
Purple list submissed purpleless submiss I don't even know what
his name is, but he said the fairline is cathartic, right,
So I had to look that up.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Providing psychological relief.
Speaker 6 (39:42):
Through open expression of strong emotions cathartic therapeutic. Yeah, we
so I will say, no, No, you were doing a
great job clearly getting people's psychological inn thiss out there.
A couple of people have said, like, how do I
continue to cheer for this team? You know, we keep
seeing that come up. How do I continue to be interested? Well,
this is it's it's it's it's not gonna get any worse.
I don't think right. Four picks, no touchdowns, scoreless since
(40:04):
two thousand.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Was twenty eighteen, is what it was.
Speaker 6 (40:06):
That was last time they were scoreless seven in eighteen years.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Yeah, okay, two thousands worse than you thought.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
That is?
Speaker 2 (40:15):
That is bad seven?
Speaker 3 (40:17):
It was I can't remember who got hurt the seven season,
but Brooks Bollinger had come in during the Chargers game.
That was the Adrian two ninety six game. Oh and
then the next week was a border battle. I think
they lost thirty four off from that game.
Speaker 6 (40:31):
But Brooks Bollinger was with the quarterback. Yeah, what a
trivia question there went for a buck? Seven was the
quarterback the last time the Vicers was scoreless, Bruce Bollinger.
Who would have known that? Somehow we come back to
the Badgers. Yeah, in the family. They got the ax
they got I mean that's the one thing Max can
kind of rest his shoulders on. The ax is back
in Minnesota. But yeah, I mean people say, what do
(40:51):
you what do you want to cheer for?
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Like cheer for.
Speaker 6 (40:53):
At some point, the offense has to get simpler, pulse like,
you can't.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
You can't keep doing the same deep balls.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
Yeah, expecting these quarterbacks to make layered throws because they
are not making them, They're selling them high. Some of
the throws that Max through out the bounds are so
simple they were out routes.
Speaker 5 (41:08):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (41:09):
So that throw, you know, like, is his neurological pathway
has been too messed with?
Speaker 5 (41:14):
You know?
Speaker 2 (41:15):
Does he own dogs?
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Does he not get the opportunity for an extra ten
reps when he takes the dogs for a walk.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
These are all questions we must ask.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
I'd say root for the nerves, though from Max it
was nerves for sure, for the team because you love
the team.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Root for the team because you love the team. Defense
is awesome.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
I'll let you the defense. The defense is still making plays.
Can't tackle to save their lives. Isaiah Rodgers on earlier today,
are you freaking kidding?
Speaker 6 (41:38):
Me? And my brother Isaiah Rodgers tweeted it too. He said,
I got to his tweet. Man, I'm sorry, Vikings Nation.
You know I'm paraphrasing. I gotta be better. I will
make those tackles. Yeah, you know, so he doesn't need
to apologize. It's all good.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Root for the team because you love it. I just
wanted to and then we'll pause. Uh Ben and Alabama
calling and talking about Quacy. The issue that I have
with this conversation as we move forward, and it's going
to get hotter, and frankly it should because your four
and eight team is a wreck. I would ask the
(42:13):
average that the average person that's listening, just think about
how this team is constructed. You hear words like collaboration,
the cascading of knowledge and information. How many decisions has
the general manager made since becoming the general manager of
the Minnesota Vikings? How many decisions has that person made
on their own in his own room, without the input
(42:38):
or the thumbs up an agreement from other individuals?
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 13 (42:42):
Ron?
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Or we're just we're pounding. This guy's got to go.
This guy's the worst. This guy is terrible. And the
drafts have been the drafts have been speaking to that.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Dallas Turner did have a day.
Speaker 6 (42:53):
He's coming around. He might be found a second move.
If you notice that sack, he engaged and then he ripped.
I just he dipped a ripped after the engage.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
I would just ask Ben, and I would ask anybody else,
just you're down on Quacy right now, and when your
team's four and eight and you're thinking about free agent
acquisitions that haven't worked out, Ryan Kelly and.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
The concussion issues that he had.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
He comes back, he's got the giant, the big head
thing going on. I forget what it's called the guardian cap.
There we go, and then he leaves with a hip
flexer today. Things like that, garisaw again fifty to fifty.
Actually it's more like twenty eighty. He's not going to play.
The health issues, the defensive line side of things. Javon
Hargrave almost feels like he's stealing money at this point.
(43:37):
All the things that haven't worked out, you are absolutely
valid and critiquing and scrutinizing those things. I'm just the
only thing I would ask is just if you think
about it for a second, you just go is Quacy
just choosing all of this on his own and the
rest of the organization are just passengers on Quasey's ride.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
I'd just like you to think about that. We'll continue
on here. Vikings fan line.
Speaker 3 (43:59):
It's eight hundred three two zero five, three, two six
phone lines are full talkback machine in play. Vikings lose
twenty six nothing to the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Today,
we're gonna continue Vikings fan line on Kfan and the
Minnesota Vikings Audio Network, your.
Speaker 12 (44:14):
Home for all things for a ball.
Speaker 8 (44:17):
Yes, FM one hundred point three Kfan the Fan.
Speaker 17 (44:31):
Hey, guys, uh, I used to love KOC. Now I
have some serious doubts. It has been proven that unless
he has someone that's already started in the league who's
a medium to above average to run his complex offense,
he can't win and he can't read a room with
new quarterbacks. He his ego is too big for his
(44:51):
play calling. Run the ball, throw some screens.
Speaker 18 (44:54):
My god, Christopher East Saint.
Speaker 19 (44:58):
Paul here saying to any of these new developing quarterbacks,
sunny favors with the game calling, the end game decisions.
We should have kicked a field goal rather than go
for it on fourth and one.
Speaker 18 (45:13):
And he threw up a gimmea touchdown to the other
team to okay, Hey, that should never happen as a
professional team, and that comes down to coaching and an administration.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (45:26):
I thought that was going to build up to like
he's gonna drop the bomb or something.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
God, I almost want to go online and find the
the next line of one of those songs bring the action.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
I was literally thought he was about to drop something.
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 8 (45:42):
I was to say that Max Brosmer was put in
a difficult position today doesn't do it justice.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
I just don't really understand.
Speaker 8 (45:50):
Is it the height of arrogance a god complex that
you think that with with the holes on the offensive line,
the game plan that was just utterly lacking an attempt
to run. It's fitting that Frankenstein is back in theaters
because we got our own Doctor Frankenstein and Igor in
the front office, and it's an equally terrifying monster right now.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Thanks for the Talkbacks Vikings fan line. Vikings lose twenty
six to nothing into the Seahawks first first shutout Vikings
offense in eighteen years. Ron just learning that on air
last segment, Flabbergasted by the entire thing I have to
our conversation La last segment about see this.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
Is where you get.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
We speak so confidently before games are played, sometimes or
in great moments, knowing that many many more moments good
or bad to follow JJ McCarthy the nine thing that
I'm just hoping that he has a career long enough
to outlive that. But I saw this from Kevin Seaffert
(46:55):
this morning. So Quasi not making decisions on his own. Yeah,
blah blah blahlah Nordo's Die trib last segment vikings GM.
This is from Kevin Seffert, who was quoting from Adam
Schefter and a storyline Vikings GM.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Quaisia del Fa Mensa.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
Lobbied to get Max Brosmer an invite to the twenty
twenty five Combine at PJ Flex's request, and later was
overheard saying that he kind of wished he hadn't ron
because then Brosmer.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Could have been the Viking secret Secret's out now secrets
out secret.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
The way that we talk about things sometimes my goodness.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
I love confidence, but my goodness.
Speaker 6 (47:38):
So here's the thing about Max, right, we saw him
when he was coached a certain way by Harbo right
at the University of Minnesota. Harbo when you watch Drake
lindsay right, watch him in the snow Verse Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
What did they do the first seven plays? I think
they ran the ball.
Speaker 6 (47:58):
No, they went quick game, oh quick hurry up out routes,
quick dump off to the running backs. And then they
came back and ran the ball right because they forced
Wisconsin to be like, oh crap, this dude can throw
the ball in the snow.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
By the way, my laughter is not an indictment of
Max Brosmer. I do, and I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
The imagery of Frankenstein there, because he was put.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
In about image in there in the in the chat.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
About as about as terrible as spot as you can
put an undrafted cat in.
Speaker 6 (48:28):
It should have been it should have been quick, It
should have been spread. If you're gonna throw, go four wide,
spread it out. You got justin Jefferson, just Jalen Naylor,
Jordan Nasen, and TJ.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Hockinson. Go four wide.
Speaker 6 (48:38):
You're not using your fullback right, you're not going two
tights and going twelve personnel.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
So then use those three receivers with.
Speaker 6 (48:44):
That tight end that is six five. Spread them out
and see if they play you man. If they do
run quick game right, run a slant and run a
flat route.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
The flat route will be open in man, the slant
will be open in man.
Speaker 6 (48:58):
In zone, the slant can sit behind in that little
spot and then you just like you play that game.
I just don't understand why there's a lack of that
with these young quarterbacks. Like, let them remember always you
should joke about that, Lather them up first, let them.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Make a couple of easy throws before you ask.
Speaker 6 (49:16):
Them to throw the ball down the field. I'm with you,
you got it. Like, if you're gonna have chili you
have to let us in the crock pot for a while.
You don't just put in the microwaven nuke it.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
Am I wrong for not liking chili, by the way,
yes you are. It's the wintertime only without beans. Though
beans are awful, beans are disgusting me. Beans are the
fruit of the earth. Yeah, the magical fruit. And you
can you can have them. You can have them. And yeah,
I guess I'll just eat Yeah, meat and sauce and onions.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
I love a good chili, some tomatoes, good chili in
the wintertime. The crockpot. It takes time. It does take time.
Speaker 3 (49:55):
Uh, And we thank you for taking the time to
listen to Vikings fan line. We're gonna continue on as
a matter of but we're gonna do so on our

oh five three two six, or send us a message
to any of our kfan social channels. Now continuing to
take your talkbacks, direct messages, and calls. This is Vikings
Fan Line with Ron Johnson and kfaans.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
Eric norton Quist.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Vikings crushed at Luminfield twenty six nothing, the first time
in eighteen years the Vikings have been shut out two
thousand and seven, the last time the Vikings posted a
goose egg in a game. And that's the kind of
way that the day felt, the week has felt, the
months have felt, the season has felt. For your four
(52:21):
and eight Minnesota Vikings IMNRDO from nine to noon and
Ron Johnson is here, talkbacks, calls, a few short segments
and then I think we're going to jump into the howl.
The Wolves at home hosting the Spurs a couple minutes
left in the third quarter, Spurs with a seven point lead,
ant with the ball working his way up the court
a pick by nas trying to work his way inside.
Here's Anthony Edwards. Oh the fish at the rim, Oh
(52:45):
spurs by five? Trust me, I'll never do play by
play to the talkback machine.
Speaker 20 (52:50):
Hey guys, Riley from Worthington here man. After listening to
the fan line, the only thing left to do is
go home and drink myself to sleep. A lot of
negativity tonight. I want to know your thoughts on what's
next from here? No playoffs? I mean my thoughts. Are
you let McCarthy play, let him learn and reevalue it
at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
What do you guys think we'd make out of this mess?
Thanks for taking my talk back. Go Vikings. Hand me
a bush light.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Bush Light, it's for the bush light. We were talking
about the banquet beer with Abbott.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Before we got on there. Oh, fantastic stuff.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Anyway, Ron, what do you think I look at A
topics still remains that you need to know whether you
might have something a pulse at the quarterback spot into
the off season.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
I still believe that's an a.
Speaker 6 (53:40):
Topic right at this point four and eight, so they're
still in the bubble. It's not over yet. Less than
one percent chance so they're still in this.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
They haven't.
Speaker 6 (53:49):
They haven't entered Cardinals, Saints and Giants territory just yet
eliminated already here we go week twelve. So still a chance, right,
there's always a chance. Miracles have happened. We've seen case
Keenum pull it off, right, But yeah, you got to
see what Jay McCarthy has at this point.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
Like, I love the Max bros Hanging there, I just
know I'm I.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
Can't like you don't like the less than one percent chance? Oh,
I I appreciate your optimism.
Speaker 6 (54:10):
I've just given the fans the stats that I'm reading
on the NFL websiteminated, eliminated yet.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
But when you think of and they, you know it says,
I don't believe they control their own destiny yet do that?
I don't think so.
Speaker 6 (54:28):
But when you look at the way this season is gone,
you have to know who you have going into the
offseason because you have to make a decision now because
there's gonna be a lot of quarterbacks on the market
that you could potentially go after and maybe have to
pay a little bit to come in and compete. There's
gonna be some guys that don't have an opportunity do
you bring Carson I mean like, after Carson Wentz gets
put back together, speaking of franking sign, like is he
(54:50):
going to be healthy enough to even come back? Do
you bring him back in the off season to compete
for the job. Clearly he had something going at times,
but that was on a short turn of like, JAJ McCarthy,
don't think he has it. We got to bring somebody
in to get this going. It was Carson Wentz. Sorry,
bring somebody in to be the backup. End up being
Carson Wentz, and then he got thrown into the starting
(55:10):
position when JJ McCarthy got hurt. But what do you
see that you think this is the future of the
team in six games?
Speaker 2 (55:18):
You haven't seen it.
Speaker 6 (55:19):
So to everybody saying that that says like we can't
just give up on them, You're right, you can't. You
have to let him play these last games out and
if it is bad all the way to the end,
then you have to go as a coach like, this
is not our job.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
Our job is not to like.
Speaker 6 (55:33):
As an owner, as a GM, as a coach, it's
not our job to decide who they should keep who
they shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Right, that's what they get paid to do right.
Speaker 6 (55:40):
Keenan McCardell will watch the film and he'll say, are
my receivers running the routes? Are we getting separation? Is
everybody doing they're supposed to do? The offensive line coach
has to say, well, with two fifths of the offensive
line healthy, is Brian O'Neill and Fries.
Speaker 2 (55:55):
Oh he'll ride those injuries. That It'll be part of
the exit interview for sure.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
Is my right two guys doing what they're supposed to
do because I was left three. I don't even know
if those guys are gonna be on the team next year,
you know, Darris saw and Donovan Jackson, Like, you're probably
gonna need a new center. You know, it doesn't look
like he's gonna be able to go anymore for the
most part, like full time. You knew what you were
getting when you bought him in and you got it,
Like he's just not healthy enough to go. Who's your
(56:22):
center coming in next year? Is there a potential draft
pick early in the draft to go get a center?
And then from a quarterback perspective, is my quarterback doing
what I'm asking that?
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Can I work with that? Does he need to be
up here? The entire Offseatson.
Speaker 6 (56:36):
Do I need to fly out to wherever he's at
to work out and help him out? And do I
get Max Brozman and Justin Jefferson together? How do I
keep Justin Jefferson and Jordan asn't happy? You know, that's
the other side of this. Keen mccarthin is probably on
like don't leave the state watch right now with his players, like, hey,
where you guys at.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
I simultaneously, I simultaneously get it, like I'm split. I
don't like to sit on the fence, but I kind
of there's part of me that says, Justin Jefferson, We've
actually done everything over the course of your career to
keep you happy, right and you're paid a fair dollar.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Don't leave us right now.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
So emotion of the game, I'm not I'm not mad
at him at all for being frustrated after what we
watch today and leaving and not talking.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
I don't care about all that.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
That's fine, and I think Jefferson has comported himself to
the highest level throughout his time here. That's where I
just kind of take umbrage with the idea, like, ma,
we got to worry how Justin Jefferson's feeling well, I
think everybody's feeling like crap after losing twenty six nothing
and being four and eight and having to go through
the issues that they've had, you know what I mean.
So it's like, yeah, I want Justin Jefferson to be happy,
(57:41):
and it is, you know, despite it's a merit based situation,
highest of the high end player on your team. We
need to make sure he's feeling good about everything and
we put him in the best spots to win. So
we do need to solve the QB spot. But I'm
not trying to solve it for the sake of number eighteen.
I'm trying to solve it so I never have to
watch what I watched for three hours today, right, because
(58:03):
I got fifty three people that are unhappy, right that
that actually means as much to me as the singular
of a Jefferson and Addison, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
And here's the key to that.
Speaker 6 (58:12):
When you when you think about where everybody's at as
a as a whole, right, throw them twe slants a
game I'm in exactly right, So.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Then he's happy.
Speaker 3 (58:21):
The quarterback can kind of just ease his way in
little baby stacks.
Speaker 6 (58:24):
If you're gonna take shots every once in a while, sure,
but come down on there. Like JJ McCarthy when we
talked about that, right, he was one of the top
aggressiveness quarterbacks in the league through six games.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
Like he shouldn't be, Like he should not be that.
Speaker 6 (58:41):
He should not be one of the most aggressive quarterbacks
unless the players are being completed.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
They're not.
Speaker 6 (58:46):
So let's let's let's dial back the aggressiveness. Let's maybe
turn up the simplisticness of an offense. I don't know
if that's a word, but I'm gonna roll with it.
I've never corrected you before a round. I'm not gonna start.
But because you know how the Twitter people are, they
that's not a work. But you have to understand how
to make it simple for him. Yeah, and that's that's
the only thing I think about, is like if I'm if,
(59:08):
I'm if I'm the coach and I got Jason McCarthy,
I see he's struggling with a lot of the stuff
I'm throwing at him. I'm gonna taking off his plate.
I'm gonna just slow it down for him. And again,
if you slow it down, then maybe that becomes your
offense next year.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
That's a slower, simpler offense.
Speaker 12 (59:22):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
That's Ron Johnson. I'm Nordo.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
A couple segments of fan line to go. We'll be
back right here on the fan. Welcome back to Vikings
fan line. I wish you know our local Chevy dealers.
I love our local Chevy dealers, great partners, the Vikings
fan line. I don't have a Drive of the day
today because our team didn't score any points. I kind
of like the possession the Vikings had before Max Brosmer
(59:44):
threw a pick six, so I like that drive. It
was a nice drive drive of the day perhaps for
our local Chevy dealers. Thank you to all of our
local Chevy dealers.
Speaker 6 (59:52):
Ron.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
Is this the bottom? Can this be the bottom? This
is not the bottom, it's the bottom.
Speaker 6 (59:58):
Four interceptions ninety yards passing, like that's the bottom. I mean,
I can't say like I would, hope I would if
I would, or a fumble, Yeah, it has to be
the bottom. Like I just think again, if I'm watching
the film and I'm Kevin O'Connell on Monday and Tuesday
this week and Wednesday, I'm trying to simplify this. Often
for whoever is gonna be my quarterback, JJ or Max,
(01:00:20):
because I want to see can you make the simple thing?
Because I'm actually you to do a lot? Can you
make the simple throws? So yes, I hope this is
the bottom. That's Ron Johnson.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
I'm Nordo.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Final segment around the corner of Vikings fan line, and
then we're gonna jump into the Wolves game.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
So that's all ahead on the fan. Well, that's it,
ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Vikings fan line comes to a close. I appreciate the
text to talkbacks and the calls. Vikings lose twenty six
nothing to the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
Have they hit the bottom? Ron is hoping that they
have to? We are all hoping.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
We're all thankful for you listening, texting, talking back.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
In all of those things.
Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
Live five point thirty with the Power Trip nine to
noon tomorrow, sad montage and commentary.
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Thanks Ron, I appreciate all you do. Good news. The
Commanders are three and eight.
Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
That's in.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
There's an opportunity. There's an opportunity. But Jaden's gonna come
back and probably have a say in this thing. Thanks
to Max Fuller for producing the Wolves one O three
over the Spurs ninety eight, just about midway through the
fourth quarter. When we return from break, we're gonna check
in with that and bring you to the finish. We're
you're home for Vikings football, but we're your home for Wolves.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Basketball as well. Enjoy that, Hey, a team's trying to
win a game.
