Speaker 1 (00:00):

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm here, Hey, everybody, welcome to another episode All the
Tailgate right here on KFA, and I'm your host si Onminson,
joined by the great Chad Daniels, my co host. Hello, Chatty, Chatty, Chatty.
Last week we brought a real positive vibe in what
(00:30):
most people believe to be a very negative moment. And
do I think that we're the reason that we turned
it around in greater fashion than any first team since
what did they say two thousand and nineteen ninety two?
J what was it? Tell me the date? Jay decades
to have been shut out and then they turn around
and shut someone else out. And by the way, our
(00:52):
shutout was better than their shutout thirty one versus twenty
six out.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Do you know that if we combined the last two games,
we would have won both of them thirty one to two, won.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Both of them thirty I just think that a obviously
our positivity played a huge role in the win.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
No question, you don't believe in wishful thinking. Think again, by.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
The way, he just Jay also just said, it's the
first time this last two weeks is the first time
since ninety two that it was the Broncos. They got
shut out one week, and then they shut a team
out the next week, And we are airing on a Thursday,
and we're on the best sports station in America. So people,
I'm sure that's been brought up and we're sitting here like,
let me tell you something.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Maybe, yeah, it's just on repeat for all week.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
But secondly, I think we both know that I am
a disgusting enough level of superstitious that I'm gonna probably
run a very similar format back this week.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Let's But here's the thing. It's a lot easier to
be positive than it was last week. It's also Cowboy Week,
which is such an interesting week for a fan of
my generation. You grew up like you're liking my dad's generation, Chad,
you grew up with.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
This shot, your dirty mouth. I grew up when we
got herschel Walker and they won a bunch of Super Bowls.
That's when I was growing up.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
But genuinely, for the Ado or the fans that are
older than us, I think they have this relationship with
the Cowboys, this negative disdain that I think a lot
of people of our generation don't like the Cowboys because
you know, the fans everything that goes into it, But
for them it's the Hail Mary game sure, and feeling
(02:39):
like we got robbed of our best team members. So
for our dad's generation, this rivalry hits a lot harder.
So when I was talking to my dad about this,
he cares more about this game, I think, than I do,
even in a season where we are not way up
in the standings.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Right, I care about this game a ton too, because
and I don't know if you're going to fact check
this or what you're going to say about it, but
I heard, okay, I heard also the herschel Walker trade
the reason we lost the North Stars. Yeah, they also
gave him the North Stars.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, I heard.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Unbelievable. Norm Green comes down from Calgary, when was it
nineteen ninety one, buys the team, They go and make
a Cinderella run ninety three playing the Calgary Flames, end
up going down, and he sells the team in ninety
five for eighty four million after he bought it for
thirty one million. Get out of here.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Get let's get that conspiracy up on YouTube, because I
think it'll run wild.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I would love it.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
My dad has told me about that Dallas game because
Jay can probably answer the years correctly, but I believe
it was. It was three super Bowls in four years,
so yeah, it would have been the seventy five season.
It was the seventy six super Bowl. It's seventy four,
seventy five. They don't go in seventy six, they go
(03:59):
in seventy seven. And I recently got to spend some
time with Fran Tarkentin, which this Chad, this dude is wild.
He is so impressive. He's eighty five years old. He
seems younger than you. And I'm not even doing a
Chad's old joke. I'm just saying he is more cognitively
(04:20):
available than I believe you are.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Oh, no question.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
His recall. He sits and tells stories, and he does
that thing in each story. Well, he'll tell a story
and he'll mention a quarterback and to be like he
was drafted here and he did that, and you're like,
how do you I don't know what car we came
here in? How do you know this stuff?
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
And that game is like this really interesting, remarkable moment.
And Fran had said that he believes that was their
best team. It's the year, you know, It's the year
they're looking, You're great, but it's to the point a Chuck,
you know, Drew Pearson and Chuck Foreman. They got into
(05:04):
an argument, like like a real argument on the local
radio station here kf An. It's that is for that generation,
this is such a heated vibe. And I think for
our generation, all we think about is like you remember
when Randy Moss went down there in Thanksgiving and smacked
the turkey out of their mouths. That is my only
(05:25):
connection to the Cowboys. I have no vitriol, I have
no nothing except for what was genetically passed down.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
I mean I I here's what I have. I remember
watching herschel Walker and thinking like this is this is
the greatest athlete in the whole wide world. Yes, And
then they were like, we're gonna trade a bunch of
stuff for him, and I was like, yes, please, I was.
I was, you know, like my dad and his friends
were all mad, and I'm just like you guys, sit
and wait for it.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
People who don't remember the origin story, you were a
herschel Walker fame, right, That's like one of the things
that was keeping you a football fan as a little kid.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Right.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
So when they made that trade, like what did that
do to you?
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Like you?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
There couldn't have been anybody more confident in anything than that.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Oh, I was so excited. Ninety two Fergus Fall's otters
go down to the Metrodome to play, and I remember
that I had just quit the year before because I
was like, I was a receiver and they wouldn't throw
the ball, and so I started boxing, And so I
got to go down and watch all my friends play
on the field that herschel Walker played on. It was
(06:37):
pretty unbelievable. But I named my first car herschel Walker.
Anytime there was a snowdrift that people were having trouble with,
I would just take my nineteen eighty Dodge Omni made
of complete metal and bust through it, and everyone in
the car would yell herschel Walker. I mean it was.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Crazy, yeah, and much like that Dodge Omni, it didn't
pan out. But those are the three pivot moments Drew
Pearson push you know, the Hail Mary that play, the
invention of the Hail Mary, the herschel Walker trade, and
Randy Moss smacking the turkey. What I will say about
(07:17):
Cowboys fans is I find them to despite me not
having any vitriol towards the team. I find them to
be one of my least favorite groups.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Really, Oh man, I got a whole bunch on top
of the Cowboy fans, but keep going.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
But it's not a personal thing. I just have one
really close friend who's a die hard Cowboy fan, and
through him, I know a lot of Cowboy fans, and
I think each I've said this a lot on the show,
each fan base has their own kind of personality, right
Like Pittsburgh Steelers fans literally believe that they worked hard
to earn their team. They think that they act like
(07:56):
they manual labored a football team into existence. The Steelers
down at the factory and nets so welcome to steel City.
Baby Packers fans are like the trust fund kids who
crashed the car and the next day their daddy gets
them a new car. But they think everybody is mean
to them. They got a victim complex.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
They also think they own their team. And I know
a lot of people are about to crash their cars
right now listening to this, but you don't if you
do make a trade.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Well, Bill's fans, now we could talk about fan base.
I like Bill's fans are like your wildest uncle at Thanksgiving. Yeah,
and I'm not talking about like the political discussions that
are often talked about in pop culture around thanks Eving.
I'm talking about that uncle that you had that You're like,
I don't know what's gonna happen this year. Is he
gonna show up with six dogs for some reason, Willie
(08:45):
park his truck on the lawn?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
What's he gonna say to my aunt at dinner?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Like, they're your buddy that started drinking sophomore year, and
they were like, I bet you I could run through
this brick wall. It doesn't matter if I die. It's
gonna snow too much tomorrow. That's a that's a Bills fan.
So they are a wild card uncle. But I find
the Cowboy.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Fans are a lot like we both grew up in
small towns and I'm ready to get the messages from this.
But Cowboy fans are like the forty two year old
that's wearing his letterman jacket to the diner.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Well, that's Texas football anyways.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Dude, the guy who is twenty five and was still
picking up like seniors to go bowling, You're like, you
gotta let you're coasting acting cool all that coolness happens
so long ago. Just because you put the jacket on
doesn't mean that you were a part of the Troy
Aikman thing. You gotta so like their superiority complex being
(09:49):
based on so far in the past and so many
teams being so good sense and them not having done anything.
Is this one friend in particular who does listen to
this show and you can eat it, Eddie. It is
a tough thing to be around.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, it is a lot of Uncle Rico's cheering for
the Cowboys orre you just asking me like, I can
throw this football over that mountain right now if I
wanted to.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Literally, Jay just texted us. You and Jay have a
very similar mind frame. He just texted, they are the
Uncle Rico.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Whoa and I don't get the texts.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yes, don't get the text They come straight to me.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I've tried to give ja my number several times. Won't
take it, won't save it.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
We got to talk about the actual game itself. Let's
go to a commercial break, Let's come back. Let's talk
a little bit about the game. Let's talk a little
bit about the NFL. Because we did that last weekend.
We won. Let's do it all here on the tailgate.

the NFL, Ticketmaster is the safest and most convenient marketplace
to score fully verified Viking tickets. So get those touchdown
(10:55):
celebrations ready and score your tickets today at ticketmaster dot
com slash Vikings. Hey Viking fans, right now you can

(11:15):
or other great prizes. Viking fans deserve Pepsi scull. Hey everybody,
welcome back Simons and Chad Daniels. It's Cowboys week. Lost
in the whole Chad, we we got shut out and
then we shut somebody. Is a fun development for me,
(11:36):
and it is the rise of the defense. Oh yeah,
you know, obviously the big discrepancy and turnovers from last
year to this year. But man, Washington, you know they're
not a nothing burger, and how well they played even
in that loss in Seattle. I just think you're seeing
(11:56):
some things that are remind you why whether you know
we end up getting there, which it's looking bleak or not,
But like, why so many people had such positive feelings
about the team going into the season when you see
that full defense. Of course, healthy Andrew van Ginkel is
an absolute beast. This dude might be when you just
(12:18):
watch him. I did this a couple of times on Sunday,
like when they had the wide screen. I was like,
I'm just gonna watch Andrew van gin I'm not even
gonna watch the play, and he just moves like somebody
who has studied more for one game than I've studied
for everything total in my whole life.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Yeah. I don't do many impersonations, but here's my impersonations
of offensive coordinators when they're playing the Vikings when Van
Ginkle is healthy. Okay, guys, no screen passes this week,
thank you? That's it. Those are my notes.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Hey, how does this guy keep plucking them? And b
how are you not aware of that? Yeah? I Or
how about let's strow the screen pass? You know, let's
just take an extra two yards backwards. I know it's
a backward pass. If he drops it, it's but this
dude's gonna pick it off. If we d have to
clar forward on a screen we got to stop doing that.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
It's incredible. I was watching the Vikings game with I'm
gonna tell you, a very negative human being, and it's
it's fun to see a defense that's so good that's
actually making negative people positive because I remember Washington's offense
comes out and you're like, what's going to happen and
my buddy goes, no, no, no, watch this and it
(13:27):
was right three and out. I mean it's like, so
this defense is turning people into believers. And then as
far as Minnesota sports fans go, that is a very
hard thing to do.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
And it's an excellent opportunity because you got this week.
I believe Dallas is the number one overall offense. I
believe they're the number one passing offense. I think the
Vikings are like the number four against the past. Regardless
of what happens the rest of the year, this is
your you know, what's the defense going to look like
next year? Some of these guys that some people had
(13:57):
hard feelings about, Let's let's see. Let's see now that
everybody's playing well, how they hold up against the best
offense in the league from a passing standpoint. And I
cannot quit. I've been telling people to chill out on
these harsh Dallas Turner takes. I think he's twenty one.
(14:18):
He was three years younger than Jared Verse. He still
today is younger than most of the guys drafted that
you all were mad about that he wasn't playing as
well as in a way more difficult defense. He's got
some crazy amount of hurries, pressure sacks in the last
couple of weeks. Chad, I've been saying, what you really need.
(14:40):
What did we talk about last offseason was the trenches.
If you walk out of this year and Donovan Jackson
is as good as I think he is and Dallas
Turner comes alive as I think he's going to, that
is a launching pad for the future. It is where
football is won. If Donovan jack is that good and
(15:01):
you got him and darisof for the future and you
can partner Dallas Turner with Van Ginko and Grenade, let's go. Yeah, Like,
all this negativity that I myself have even been feeling
flips real quick and we.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Can see, Yeah, we can see most of these guys
this Sunday night against Dallas, And I'm just so excited
because I don't think I had seen the double duce
Harrison Smith come in from the edge so many times
as he did last week. Maybe he has been, maybe
I'm just not paying attention, but it was so fun
(15:33):
to see him scaring the hell out of the quarterback,
and I think, I think it's gonna be great. Now.
I'm gonna tell you something. Let me ask you. This
is CD Lamb. Is he out of concussion protocol? I
don't pay attention anymore to other teams players because I'm
out of my fantasy football playoffs, even though I destroyed
everybody in my division, but my record wasn't going to
(15:54):
off Jamaica.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
I'm telling you, I'm telling you, come to the dark side,
join the chop. Become a guillotine League guy. We can
get I bet Zach Martine would do it. I bet
our boy Bozeman would do it. Tim Harmston, all people
who've been on the show, we could have a Vikings
Tailgate Fantasy League guillotine style. You got to stop playing
(16:17):
this regular fantasy football. It's for Schman.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Answer my question.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Jay can tell us if I mean we're putting a
lot of pressure on Jay today. I'm just spitting Jay.
Do our job, Jay, go learn our stuff. Find out
about Ceedee Lamb. I I hope he's not in concussion protocol.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
I want it.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
I want to see it.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I want to I want it to be. Give me
all your web best, yes, give us the number. I'm
trying to see where we're going from this point forward.
Give me the best team in the offense or in
the league that's the best at throwing the football.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Completely agree.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Lamb is listed on the per Jay on the latest
report right a day before this show comes out. It'll
come out tomorrow morning, and this is he's listed as
limited limited. Now, I think this is going to be
a big week for Justin Jefferson. Can I make the case?
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah? So he had so two catches for eleven yards
last week. Frustration, but I got Can I tell you
something that I'm very impressed with? Or tell it other
people are catching the ball in the end zone and
he is one of the first people over there smacking
butts and hitting helmets, and I mean it's very impressive.
(17:32):
Everyone's talking about always so frustrated this and that he's
also obviously a huge team leader.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
It was very clear last week, even for a stupid
guy like me who doesn't know football, that they were like,
Justin Jefferson is not going to beat us. I mean,
when you have that many tight end receptions and touchdowns,
it's very obvious they are taking something away. I don't
know that you're going to see that exact same approach.
If I'm a defensive coordinator, I'm not doing that. I
think if you try, this team is too good that
(17:59):
if you put all that effort in, KOs is too
good of a play caller. And last week's seeing JJ
just drop back first read open guy and at the
end of the game, they were trying to get him
a touch, they were trying to get him some love,
and so I think he is going to absolutely eat
I know we're not at the prediction section yet, but
(18:22):
I'm talking seven eight nine catches, one hundred and fifteen
to one hundred and forty yards and a touchdown or two.
I think Justin Jefferson, especially with Cedee Lamb on the
other side of the field, I think whatever these last
few weeks have been, I think you're gonna see the
cup boil over.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I can't wait. I'm gonna go ahead and write this
down and I'm gonna give this to everybody I know
that has Jefferson in their league still that made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
And you're doing that because you just want to push
me under the bus if it doesn't happen, because that's
what it feels like. You're saying, I.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Love sending people your way when you're.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah, am I winning you over with my case?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Absolutely? I mean you you can tell right with these
little these little stop routes right on the sideline that
they're trying to get him, you know, the ball immediately
and then let him be an athlete. You know, it's
like tight ends going across the field. It's like body
shots in boxing. Right, You're just like chopping the tree
down and eventually they're gonna have to they're gonna have
(19:25):
to guard their their trunk and then you just throw
a haymaker. And that's Jefferson for seventy.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I would love I would love a seventy in the
end zone. I just think you just I don't care
how much you're struggling. I don't care what sort of
offensive line. Justin Jefferson is just too good. There's gonna
be a point where it doesn't matter who's throwing the ball,
who's protecting the person throwing the ball. You just it's
just gonna bubble over. I'm just guaranteeing it. What do
(19:54):
you can we do? Uh, let's just jump right into it.
Let's do predictions. Let me get your score, let me
get your player prediction, and then we'll do the personal predictions.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Now, as you know, we were shut out two weeks
ago and then we applied a shutout this last week.
So I'm going to say that I don't think we
can do two shutouts in a row. So I'm going
to go with Cowboys one somehow, Minnesota Vikings fifteen hundred.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah, I assume they'll get a safety and then they'll
take one of those points away for excessive celebration or
some new rule we're not aware. Yeah, smart, I think
the Cowboys are a much better offense than you're giving
them credit. I'm going to go Cowboys three, Vikings one
hundred and fourteen nice. Yeah, And I'm gonna stick with Jefferson.
I'm going to say I'm going to say it's the
breakout Jefferson game. It's the game where everybody sees he
(20:48):
and the quarterback on the same page. I'm all in
on Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
All right, I'm going to go with the entire offensive
line giving up one sack or less.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Ooh, enjoy that me too.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
I can't wait for it to come true.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Personal prediction. I am in the final four of Paul
the League with the great Paul Charchin. He got kicked
out very early, but I've never been to the final
four in a chop league before. I've taken it a
level of serious that is pathetic. And yes, the biggest
spend all year of my free agency fictional dollars was
(21:23):
on Justin Jefferson a few weeks back. And so I'm
predicting either my other prediction comes true and I'm just
an awesome guy to be around, or it doesn't come
true and I'm a really tough guy to be around on.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
A lot of levels. My personal prediction is Jefferson gets
all your points, but you still take fourth.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Ah, that would suck. Appreciate you doing the show. I
would really like that not to come true. Thank you
to everybody for listening. We appreciate it each and every week.
