Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for Packers Preview again. Bum talking about the
pack k the Super Bowl. We're gone win again, according
to your host David Sinnecon will.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Win on the road, but we'll win at home. But
Willie and win in the US Bank Stadium. Wekes fans
can call it.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
You've got the balls the Packers Preview Show.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Welcome to year thirty of Packer Preview on the Fan,
now live from the KFA and studios the head cheese himself,
Dave Sinnagon.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Good morning, Packer fans, and welcome to the week nine
edition of Packer Preview on the Sports Leader and the
home of the Vikings k F A n great to
be with you. We all got an extra hour of
sleep this morning with the end of daylight savings.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
That's already a great start to the day.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Let's see if we can make Jordan Loves twenty seventh
per day a perfect one. Is the Packer back at
lambeau for the second time since September twelfth? Hard to
believe as that is, as they welcome the Carolina Panthers.
For Get this a noon kickoff at lambeau Field, just
the second noon kickoff of the season. You all know
if you listen to me for a long time. I

(01:17):
love noon kickoffs. Five of the next six Packer games
will start at noon, outside of next Monday Night's affair
against the Philadelphia Eagles, and that's where we start, because
this has that semblance of a potential trap situation for
the pack coming off an amazing, massive emotional win over
Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, the Super Bowl champs coming

(01:39):
in next Monday night. Here come the lowly Panthers who
are four and four, but don't scare you too much.
Let's hope the Packers don't look past the kitty Cats,
take care of business and stamp themselves as contenders in
the NFC by doing what they are supposed to do today,
and that is take care of the Carolina Panthers. I'm
Dave sinekon Brett, Blake More by my side. He turned

(02:01):
twenty nine yesterday, Jordan Love turned twenty seven today, and
Blake Moore, you know the stat Bart Star, Brett Favre,
Aaron Rodgers all won Super Bowls at the age of
twenty seven. No pressure, Jordan, but after what we saw
last Sunday night, our expectations have been raised just a
little bit.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Oh, they kind of blew it last week against the
Steelers by not scoring. I mean, I remember when they
went up twenty two. I'm like, it's gonna be hard
to get to twenty seven at that point, because every
other game this season they've won with twenty seven points
on the board. It seems hopefully fate and the number
twenty seven lead us to the Promised Land. But yes,
it's exciting, and I hope they don't look past the
Panthers because I'm slightly nervous.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Let's go back to the last Sunday Night's game for
a moment, because it was a remarkable second half after
a really frustrating first half where the offense got that
one touchdown drive early and then just couldn't get anything going.
A couple missed field goals by brianon McManus. More on
that later, but the defense did its job and held
the Steelers to three field goals, got off the field

(03:01):
on third down, kept the Pack in the game. They
come out in the second half and the offense just ignites.
And historic career night for Jordan Love, a huge night
for your Green Bay Packers. Tucker Craft emerges on National
tight End's Day as officially the Packers' most significant weapon

(03:22):
in the passing game. Obviously that's going to change from
day to day. But what a night for Tucker Craft.
Having Christian Watson back. What a difference that made for
this club. Four catches, eighty five yards, springing runners or receivers.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
With his blocking.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Just an outstanding debut for Christian Watson getting him back. Defense,
as I said, very good, Rashaan Garry, a couple sacks,
the third down defense was great.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Emmanuel Wilson coming in to.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Spell a somewhat gimb Josh Jacobs, who clearly is dealing
with the calf and is not as explosive as he
will be when he's healthy. Emmanuel Wilson came into the
third quarter and I thought really ignited the offense for
Green Bay, which was ultimately spectacular. Over four hundred and
fifty yards of offense, thirty five points, no turnovers, no sacks.

(04:11):
Just the third time in Packer's history they've accomplished all
of that. Previous two times came against the Vikings in
twenty twenty and twenty twenty two. After stumbling along a
bit in the second quarter, it became an explosive offensive night,
and as we sit here and Jordan Love I think
officially it felt like the torch was passed doing it
on the field where Jordan Law or where Aaron Rodgers

(04:33):
was across the way. We heard go Pack, go chance
in the fourth quarter, we could make them out. Y'all
heard them on TV and he had Aaron Rodgers having
to go to the silent count in his home stadium
because the go Pack go chants were too loud. That's
That's about a surreal as it gets, doesn't it To
hear that kind of noise at a place like Pittsburgh,
where the fans are as rabid as Green Bays. To

(04:56):
hear that chant, I mean that gave me goosebump.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
It's not Arizona, it's not my Miami. It's not a
tropical destination. No offense to Pittsburgh. It was a poetic
game which we were both worried was going to be
a disastrous game that ended up being a romantic game
almost for Packer lore.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Going forward, the quarterback for your Green Bay Packers now
has seventy passing touchdowns and twenty five or fewer picks
in his first forty career starts. Only three quarterbacks have
done that, Love joins Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
I like that company he's in.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
I like the company you're keeping, Jordan Love, and you
made a statement Sunday night. Now it's time to grind
away in a game where you know it might get
a little ugly because this is a team that just
wants to run the ball and move the game along.
You may not have scintillating stats today, but let's just
get the w chalk it up and move on to
Philly next Monday night. Packers are big favorites, as you know,

(05:50):
twelve and a half point favorites at Lambeau today, where
it will be a high of fifty two, going to
be Windy wins Gustin to twenty five. As you know,
this game will not be televised locally because it's not
as the same time as the Vikings noon on Fox.
If you can't see it at home, you'll know I'll
always recommend if you can make it, head over to

(06:10):
the Park Tavern in Saint Louis Park, our longtime sponsor,
Walk past the bowling alley to the eleventh frame. They'll
be rinning for you. They'll be hundreds, hundreds, hundreds, of
Packer fans in the eleventh frame and spilling out doors
in the heated Pergola area. It'll be a blast at
the park, Taverts. I hope you'll check those guys out.
That's a great place to watch the Pack and they

(06:32):
have sponsored this show for I don't know fifteen years
now twenty. I've lost track. Packers have won the last
three against the Panthers, twelve and six all time. The
last time we played, though, was that walk off Andrews
Carlson field goal in Love's first season as a starter
a couple of years ago, and the Pack was making
that playoff push thirty three thirty. It was a little frightening,

(06:54):
a little scary. They were plucky, new coaching staff, new quarterback,
all that. But Carolina's going to come in. Folks are
going to look at the game last week and go, yeah,
they lost forty to nine at home to Buffalo. This
team's terrible. Well, they had won three in a row
before last week. They didn't have Bryce Young last week,
Andy Dalton was terrible and the Bills were coming off

(07:15):
of by off two straight losses. That was a hornet's
nest for Carolina. I expect a better effort. They get
Bryce Young back at quarterback today. That'll help make their
offense go. And this is a four and four operation,
so you can't look past them again. This will be
a game where the Packers are wearing those throwbacks, the
Navy and tan gold. I'm not sure where we're going,

(07:37):
kind of tan leather almost. Yes, the nineteen twenty three
Packers wore this get up, and the difference this time around.
They've worn these before, but they've never gone with the
mock leather helmet look that Illinois made famous a couple
of years ago. I don't know if any other team's
done that, So it'll be kind of a cool look.
I don't love it. I know you don't love it.

(07:57):
We'll get it out of the way in a noon
game against cap for.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
One time when I'm not there at Lambeau. We can
wear them once a year. That's fine as long as
you're not there. Correct, Yes, I want to wear the
greed and golds and I'm there.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
How much do you subscribe to the potential trap game?
You know, between two big time primetime games, Aaron Rodgers
super Bowl champs, here come the Panthers. You know it's
a young team, that's the only reason I really bring
it up. I mean, yes, this is a team that
you know is the only one lost team in the NFC.
They're the top seed, they are a contender in this conference.
They head to the super Bowl, but they're very young,

(08:28):
and you could have the coaches and the veterans remind
everyone that can't take anybody lightly. And yes, Philly's coming.
I'm a little concerned they're gonna be a bit sleepy
to start this game in the first time.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I am too.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
It just has all the ingredients necessary for a trap game.
You've got a good matchup coming up next week, you've
got a team in good form, and you've got a
bad team coming in at home at a noon kick.
It just it feels like it could be that. I mean,
I went through to get audio for the show. I
didn't hear almost any Here's how the Panthers are looking.

(09:03):
Here's what I almost get a clip of. Well, we
got to stop this because the opponent does this so well.
I didn't hear any of that. It was that's concerning
it is. It took me a long time to try
to find anything, and I found good stuff, but just
nothing related to the Panthers and that concerns me.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yep, we'll hear from Jordan Love on this program. We'll
hear from defensive coordinator Jeff Haffley as well. Let's talk
about the health of the two teams, beginning with the Pack,
who will be without Lucas van Ness once again with
out on Tavi and Wicks, and they lost Nicknemon their
special teams Ace.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
That's a tough loss. He goes to IR.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
They bring up Christian Welch, who Neman kind of replaced
this year, but Welch had been cut brought back to
the practice squad. He'll be counted on to help special teams,
as will Aaron Moseby, who was activated from the practice
squad for the second straight week. The pass rusher is
also a very important special teams guy when they've got
some injuries, so those guys are out today. A couple

(09:56):
of questionable players. Kway Walker popped up with a half
injury this week. He is listed as questionable. He misspracticed Thursday,
returned limited Friday. That's obviously a key player, especially when
you're going against a team that wants to run the
ball all day if they can. So we'll watch at
ten thirty when the inactives come out and see if
kay Walker is good to go today, it sounds like

(10:17):
Brandon mcmmcmanus will kick again. He is still listed as questionable.
He kicked throughout the week. They expect him to play.
They did keep Haversick on the roster. He's still there.
It's gonna be an interesting thing to watch. McManus missed
those two kicks on Sunday night. One was long fifty seven,
but you know he's short, which is.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Kind of weird. I think the other one was forty four.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Not just something we've gotten so accustomed to McMahon's handling
his business, but it's been a little leaky of late,
and when Lucas Haversick has had his chance, he's delivered.
So you know, windy day at Lambeau, as I said,
gusting up to twenty five might be tricky for the
kicking game. If McManus struggles today, it's going to become
a toper for this team, like half for six twenty six.

(11:02):
You know, maybe you just keep him on the roster
all year. That does hurt other places, obviously, to keep
two kickers, but you know this is not a position
you want to worry about as you head into the
key part of the season, and McManus has been very good.
Maybe it's just the injury has him a bit off,
but you know, just something to watch if the kicker
struggles today.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
A core part of the Packers' philosophy in this management
is being cutthroat and if you're not, if you're too
old and we think you're over the hill, we're getting
ready for a younger guy.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
And that's how the sustainability has gone.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
No matter who you are, if you're Jordan Nelson, you're
Aaron Rodgers, or if you're Brandon McManus, if you're over
the hill, we're done with you. I don't know if
he is, but a windy day where that could affect things,
I might lean towards the veteran today. But if you're
talking about, well, we can get our kicker for the
next ten years, that was the idea with Carlson before
it went paar shaped.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
If you can do that, I'm all for it.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Let's talk about the health of the Panthers who do
get quarterback Bryce Young back he miss week with the
ankle injury. Everything changes, obviously, when the franchise quarterback is back.
We'll see how mobile he is. He's not the most
mobile quarterback anyway. He's not a guy that's going to
run a lot. But if the ankles bother him at all,
that might be a problem. But he's back and that's
a big news for the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately for Bryce Young,

(12:18):
his offensive line is an absolute mess. They're starting center
Kde Mays will miss the game today. Their top offensive
guards are out long term. One just was put back
on the roster yesterday, guard Chandler Zavalla. No clue whether
he will play today, but he might step in and
help out because they've got two guards also questionable today, Guarden,

(12:39):
a tackle, Damian Lewis guard questionable. Attacker Taylor Moten is questionable.
So they've got issues like the Packers had earlier this
season with health up front. If they're a right tackle
Taylor Moten doesn't go, yosh Nyman will be their right tackle.
Former Packer will step in. Also, linebacker Trevin Wallace is
questionable as well. So, most importantly and most note uh,

(13:01):
the Panthers offensive line is a bit of a mess today.
You probably don't know a ton about Carolina. Maybe you
know a couple other players from fantasy. You know, the
running game has been good. When we come back, let's
look at the Panthers offense against the Packers defense. Uh,
the Packers got a key player back last week. Jeff
Hafley will talk about that when we come back. It's
Packer preview. I'm a fan.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Well, I'm proud to be a Packer fang.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
The best football fans and all the land Packer fangs,
and it's a Packer fan.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
The dude jump the seats.

Speaker 7 (13:42):
He's the cheese stream again.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Down with the twelve.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Sixty five Lombardi guy.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Here.

Speaker 8 (13:50):
Packers defense has an opportunity to make it a difficult
day for Bryce Young. He's near the bottom in terms
of quarterbacks handling pressure. However, they need to maintain that
rushing lane security because if they don't maintain that, he
can get outside and we've seen him before make plays
with his arm and his legs. Enjoy the game, Go

(14:11):
pack go.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Great to hear from twelve sixty five Lombardi guy. I
know he's head to the game with the old Friend's
Day from shackapeed Day from Maple Grove or remind listeners,
we welcome your talkbacks on the iHeart app. Just open
the app, click on the microphone. You got thirty seconds.
We are not taking phone calls throughout the season, except
on days where the Packers have already played, like maybe
the Sunday after the Lions game on Thanksgiving. That'll be

(14:38):
a day we take calls. Otherwise, we would love to
hear from your talkbacks on the iHeart app. Great to
hear from a twelve sixty five all right Packers defense
against the Carolina Panthers offense.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
There was one.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Notable change, well, actually two notable changes on the defense
Sunday night in Pittsburgh. One was the fact that finally
it sounds like it looked like Jeff Haffley listened to
a lot of who had seen enough of Nate Hobbs
As an outside cornerback. Carrington Valentine got the start, and
I thought he was well. The word that came to
my head was magnificent. That might be too strong a word,

(15:10):
but Valentine was very good. I thought he was physical,
he was aggressive. He made it tough against DK Metcalf,
who is one of the most physical receivers in football.
He did not back down. Yeah, he gave up a
touchdown late when they fought for a ball in the
end zone. But Valentine was notably, notably better than Nate
Hobbs on the outside. I'm sure he has sewn up

(15:31):
that job. Look, I don't care if he's a seventh
round pick and you just paid Nate Hobbs forty eight million.
You want the best guys out there, and Valentine earned
that spot, earned a stay out there, and that was
notable seeing him back out there on the defense. It's
also great to see Devonte Wyatt back. This defense is
entirely different. When he's plugging up the middle. He has

(15:53):
been outstanding. He has taken that year three leap, and
his defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley has noticed.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Oh means a lot. I mean from a lot of ways.

Speaker 9 (16:02):
If you watched early in the game and you just
watched him run to the ball and how physical he
was even down the field. I'm not just talking about
like point of attack he's taking on double teams, he's
making negative plays, his pass rush, he's pushing the pocket.
Watch him run to the ball and watch him hit
people down the field. I mean whether it's chasing down
a screen or chasing down a ball carrier or receiver

(16:23):
standing around the pile and he just, you know, knocks
a big guy over.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
He's just got a.

Speaker 9 (16:28):
Ton of energy, and he's strong and he's he's a dog,
I mean, and that's what he brings. He brings that
attitude to the interior of the D line. I think
guys like rushing with him, and we certainly like him
in the run game. And you know, I don't know
if he was one hundred percent because you could kind
of see him working his way back into it. I
thought he played pretty well in his return. We missed him,

(16:50):
and I think he'll get better as he goes and
he feels more comfortable.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yeah, it was great to see him back. Kolbe Wooden's
been very good too. Getting extra time. Those two guys
now plugging up the mid'll make that line look even better.
They'll be needed today because this is a team that's
going to focus on running the football. The Carolina Panthers
offense runs the ball the third most in the NFL
as far as attempts per game. They're tenths tenth in
the league in yards per carry and rushing EPA. They

(17:16):
want to move the ball on the ground. They don't
score a lot. They're twenty seventh in the league in
points per game. But once they unlocked Rico'donell the former Cowboy,
when Shuba Hubbard got hurt, kind of opened everything up
and they started winning games. Donald's averaging five point seven
yards per carry. He had a couple games where he
had over two hundred yards combo yards. One two hundred

(17:36):
yard rushing game then followed up with two hundred yards
in combo yardage this week. They split carry at the
last week or two out of respect for Cuba, but
this week they kind of made it clear that the
offense is better when Rego Donnell is the bell Kyle,
so I expect him to be the main running back today.
And again having Wyatt back obviously helps this run defense.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
It starts there.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
You have to slow the Panthers down on first, second,
and down, wake Bryce Young predictable and passing situations. They're
a very good running football team and that's what they're
going to look to do today is shorten the game,
keep the Packers offense on the sideline. Packers third down
defense has been outstanding. That's because they get a lot
of teams in third and long. It starts on first,

(18:19):
getting that first down, running back down quickly and putting
them in passing situations is the key. Today, their passing
attack is mediocre at best. The stud is the rookie
Teterowe McMillan, the eighth overall pick, a guy that a
lot of Packer fans on draft night kind of hoping
maybe he'll slide down and that'll be the receiver the
Packers select. The Panthers scooped him up. He's a specimen, big,

(18:42):
physical receiver. He's been targeted sixty three times this season.
The next most targeted receiver for Carolina has gotten half
those targets. That would be former first round pick Xavier Lagette.
McMillan's been great five hundred and twelve yards thirty seven catches,
only found the end zone a couple times, but he's
the big play guy and he's the guy you got
to watch out for. Beyond that, As I said, there's

(19:04):
not much in the passing game. I do like their
young tight end Jatavi on Sanders, who missed a few
games with an injury. He's going to be a nice
player and he's back. He'll replace Tommy Tremble who was
filling in for him, but he's a guy you got
to watch out. The Packers have not been great against
tight ends this season. They did hold their own against
Pittsburgh last week, but overall, most tight ends have had

(19:26):
a lot of success, So watch out for Sanders. It
might be a day where they focus on him on
a windy day. And a quarterback in Bryce Young who
just doesn't throw the ball downfield. He's a dink and dunker.
He ranks thirty fifth out of thirty eight eligible quarterbacks
and yards per attempt, he's twenty ninth in passer rating.
He just he tends to check it down. But he's

(19:48):
also first in the league from Pro Football Focus the
stats when throwing within ten yards of the line of scrimmage.
He's going to look to get it rid of the
ball quickly neutralize the Packers ferocious pass rush. And contrary
to what twelve sixty five said, he actually is decent
under pressure. He's thrown six touchdowns just one pick when
being pressured. He's one of the league leaders that way,

(20:10):
So he's smart. He's come a long way from that
rookie year. Is he a true franchise guy for Carolina?
I'm not sure they know that yet. But he's solid
and he won't make mistakes. And as I said, he's
going to get rid of the ball quickly. So it's
going to be in comment on the Packs defense to
tackle well, handle their business and not allow those guys

(20:31):
to escape. Green Bay should have the advantage obviously Packers
defense against this Carolina offense. Wasn't it interesting to see
Micah Parsons moved around like a proverbial chess piece on
Sunday night. You know, Collinsworth couldn't get over how often
Halfily put him right in the middle, right on passing
situations as sort of a stand up inside linebacker, knowing

(20:53):
that Rogers could see him right in front of him,
and you could tell it bothered Rodgers, Like he got
rid of the ball quickly as Micah was coming up
the middle. And while Micah may not have always gotten
home from there, it did open things up on the edges.
Or Gary had a great game, and you know Gary's
on pace for eighteen sacks this season. It's not like, oh,
he's finally got over the acl, Oh he's he's finally

(21:15):
on lock. No, he's got Michael Persons across from him,
who demands incredible attention. And when you've got a talented
player like Gary that gets some free ride, he's gonna
make the most of it. So yeah, this defense is
slowly and surely getting I think, getting better and better
every week. And I really was impressed last week against
a Pittsburgh offense, you know, not top ten offense by

(21:35):
any means, but the way they shut them down on
third down.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
I just love that about a defense.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
They can get off the field, and against Carolina that
should be the recipe again today.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Just no long drives, stop him on first.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Down, and with the injuries up front to Carolina, impact
Bryce Young's decision making and maybe take a ball away
or two.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
Yeah, because the recipe to beat green Bay or to
rattle green Bay would be to just stay on the
field offensively, not even you know, necessarily putting up a
ton of points, just settling for field goals, but long
sustain a third down where Bryce Young scrambles and slides
for a frustrating first down. That is how you would
struggle and make the offense get out a rhythm. For

(22:15):
green Bay. So third downs are going to be absolutely huge.
They have to stop the run on first and second
and hopefully get to Bryce Young or contain him and
make him make a mistake on third.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
So that would be my recipe if I were the Panthers.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
This is a game where as I said, Green Bay
today now favored thirteen and a half points over this team,
and it'll be interesting early because they tend to fall
behind the Panthers do in the first half. They are
one of the worst teams in the second quarter. Offensively,
they tend to score in the fourth quarter, but that's
usually when they're clawing back from behind. Typically, Packers have

(22:49):
been a much better team in the second half. I
feel like virtually this entire season. But a good opportunity
at home for this defense to set the tone in
this game. You know, you've got very prolific offense coming
next Monday night in Philadelphia. The challenges will be much
more difficult, obviously when the Super Bowl champs are here,
but this is a game where you're facing an offense

(23:11):
that's just struggling. They put nine points on the board
with a backup quarterback last week. They've not been great
on the road. You know, they went at home, they
shut out Atlanta. Not that long ago, it was like
thirty Nothing wasn't it thirty four to nothing. That's what
kind of got people's eyes open, Like, whoa Carolina?

Speaker 2 (23:26):
What was that?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
I mean, Atlanta's kind of a jecky and hide team.
But my point is Carolina has been much more productive,
much better team. When they're playing at home. Send them
on the road to a place like this, and this
is the haves and the have not. This is a
team in Green Bay that should handle their business against
a team like the Carolina Panthers. Well, it's pause, we'll
come back. We'll talk about the Packers offense against the

(23:48):
Carolina defense, the challenges they present. Trade deadline is tuesday.
Is that something we're gonna be watching closely. We'll talk
about it next.

Speaker 6 (23:56):
Tell all the people across the USA, I love my
green Bay Packer won the first superpos ever played.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
I love my green Bay.

Speaker 6 (24:26):
Energy.

Speaker 10 (24:28):
Good morning day from Maple GLF College from Green.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Bay with Dave Jackaby.

Speaker 10 (24:33):
Prediction today is a forty two to seventeen victory for
the pack Gold Pack go. Let's get ready for those
Eagles next Monday.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Oh yeah, great to be back at Lambeau. It's been
a while. Packers Panthers noon kickoff. Nice to hear from
Dave up in Maple Grove up Lambeau today hoping for
a Packers victory against the Panthers Green Bay, a one
of just one one of just two one loss teams
left in the NFL, of course, the Colts and Green Bay,
which just one loss through eight weeks, kind of the
halfway point of the season. Got a text that came

(25:37):
in from Ryan, who asks, do the Packers have a
chance if on the road in the playoffs. It seems
like going on the road might be a challenge, so
I looked up the NFL scenario. Packers, of course today
are the number one seed, would get the buy and.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
We wouldn't have to worry about playing on the road.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
But if you flip flop with Detroit and Detroit wins
the North, Green Bay likely the five seed, as it's
hiss today, that would mean a trip to Sea Seattle
in round one. Seattle leads the West right now, that
would not be that enticing, although they've actually been a
better road team than home team under Mike McDonald. Oddly enough,
if not Seattle, it could be the Rams if they
win the division, could be Tampa Bay if they slipped

(26:14):
to the four seed. The runner up in the North
will likely have to go to one of those three places, Seattle, La,
or Tampa. Green Bay could win in any of those places.
I feel like this is a team that can go
on the road, but we didn't see much success or
much domination on the road. The first couple of games
certainly looked better last week in Pittsburgh. Very early to

(26:35):
think about the playoffs here the first Sunday in November.
But I guess my answer to Ryan is I'm not
going to freak out of Green Bays to go on
the road. I think this team can travel, so I'm
not too worried at this point.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
You if Rogers has to go to the Silent count
in Pittsburgh, those fans are trying, and we saw it.
I think last year they were the white uniforms as
well in Seattle, and I remember verberating the go pack
go chain throughout Seattle. So the fans should be there,
and if they make a home team go to the
Silent Count, it should be an equalizer. Business stands right now.
I only will they not have to go on the

(27:09):
road at all. They only have to play in the
first round the playoffs, so hopefully it stays that way.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
It would be a wonderful thing. Those lines are obviously
going to be very tricky. They're still favored to win
the North, I believe, and then rightfully so. But got
them once so you can get them again on Thanksgiving
here in a few weeks. First things first, Packers must
take care of business against the Carolina Panthers today. Defensively,
not a great defense, to be honest. They're a twentieth

(27:34):
in points per game allowed. They basically just don't give
up big plays. They will allow you to dink and dunk,
and they want long drives and maybe you'll make a mistake.
They do not allow you to beat them deep. They're
very good that way. Where they're really bad is pressure
in the quarterback. They are thirty first in pressure rate.
They don't blitz their twenty seventh in blitz rate. When

(27:55):
they traded their star pass rusher, Brian Burns last season
to to the New York Giants, they lost their one
guy that scared quarterbacks. They don't really have a pass
rusher that's going to scare you. Their best defensive player
is probably Derek Brown, their defensive tackle. They're decent against
the run, typically not so much last week. You all
saw what James Cook did. The Bills ran for two

(28:17):
hundred and forty five yards against the Panthers last week.
Seven yards per carry on the ground. That's been a
bit of an aberration. They haven't been that bad, but
certainly that's where Green Bay is going to try to
test them today because, as you know, the running game
has still not been unlocked. This is the seventh ranked
offense in the league right now, but just twenty fourth

(28:37):
in yards per carry, and that goes against everything Matt
Lafleur wants from his offense. We talked about Josh Jacob's
calf maybe limiting his explosiveness. I'm all for today if
he's still not one hundred percent right, I'm all for
a job shared today with Emmanuel Wilson. Don't you think.
I mean, this is a game you're favored by double digits,
you expect to win. You don't need a heavy workload

(28:59):
from Jake, especially if you have a lead. Get that
calf right for the Eagles next week, and you know,
then you go to New York. But then you've got
three straight division games coming up, and the weather turns,
and this offense needs to revolve around Josh Jacobs. That
running attack needs to be better. They've done some things
up front. We still see that shuffling it right guard
between Sean Ryan and Jordan Morgan. They're still trying to

(29:21):
figure that out. I thought Ryan really stood out in
the second half when that offense was clicking and Wilson
was running. I thought Ryan was doing a really nice
job in run blocking. So I'm not sure. I still
think Jordan Morgan's a left tackle. The future here, whether
they keep Sean Ryan remains to be seen. He's in
the last year of his deal. But today, what I'm
most interested in is the running game. I want to

(29:43):
run against this team. You just saw what Buffalo did.
You are at home. You're a big favorite. Punish them
on the ground. It's not a defense that's going to
give you a whole lot of hassle. As I said,
really there's strength of their defense might be their cornerbacks
j C. Horn and Mike Jackson are They don't give
up big plays. I don't think deep shots are the

(30:03):
way to go today, especially what it might be a very
windy day. This is a day to run the football,
whether it's Jacobs, whether it's Wilson. Certainly isn't Marshaun Lloyd,
who Lafleur said this week, I don't know when we're
going to see him. I just it looks like another
lost season for the second year running back, the former
third round pick. So that's that's disappointing. I was really
excited about what Lloyd might bring this team. It's not

(30:25):
over yet, but it sounds like we're not going to
get much from him, at least this season. But tell
you what, Emmanuel Wilson is proving to be one of
the best backup backs around when he gets an opportunity.
He was really one of the keys I thought Sunday
night when this offense really took off.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
He sustained a lot of drives on his own in
the second half and putting them in second and manageable,
third and manageable, and then really open the playbook.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
For love to cook.

Speaker 5 (30:50):
I think this is not just a run the ball
just because it's windy, but just run the ball just
to assert your will and just they used it so
well against Pittsburgh and it just opened up everything else.
And yeah, I don't think it should be a lot
of Jacobs today if it doesn't have to be and
it just felt like last week. Not that Jacobs was
bad or maybe he's not one hundred percent, but it

(31:10):
just felt like when he was running, it felt like
the Steelers kind of just pressured and played the run
a little bit more than when Wilson was out there.
They're expecting a throw, so however they end up splitting
it and divving it up, I don't care. But as
long as you can kind of keep the playbook open
and make it manageable on second and third down, that's
what I care about.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Jacobs did get the touchdown Sunday night on against the
Steelers where he did, you know, get that speed, showed
the speed to get around the corner and waltzed into
the end zone.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
So that was nice to see that he had some explosiveness.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
But he's still clearly not the Josh Jacobs we saw
last season. Hopefully he'll get that calf healthy as we
head into the stretch run here, it should be another
big day for Tucker Kraft. The Panthers struggle against tight ends.
They've given up some big, big days to tight end
so far this season. Again, Watson back shook some rust
off was brilliant Sunday night, showed his physicality blocking, got downfield,

(32:03):
made a couple of big plays, four targets, four catches,
eighty five yards. You know, Romeo Dobbs is still going
to be a factor as well in this passing game.
He wasn't a big play guy Sunday night, but obviously
always there for the big third down conversion and still
a big red zone target. The question is what do
we do with Matthew Golden. I know a lot of
you are wondering what's going on with the rookie. Just

(32:24):
three catches for four yards Sunday night. That's hard to do.
Three catches for four yards, only three targets. Caught all
three of his targets. Interesting this week if you follow
this sort of stuff, he deactivated his Instagram. You can
read into that a lot of different ways. He's bitter,
He's not happy with his role, or he doesn't want

(32:45):
to hear from all the folks that are messaging him
on Instagram. Whatever it might be. He has deleted his
social media. He doesn't feel like a diva type receiver.
Everything you read when he was drafted, that's not his mo.
But I can understand his frustration. Certainly eight games in
where you know, he's just not been a part of
this offense just yet. And you see the potential there

(33:08):
and you know, on any given day it might be
his day to go off, but it hasn't happened yet.
And Jordan Love was asked about that earlier this week.

Speaker 7 (33:16):
I think people are just starting to see, you know,
what we see in practice from MG every day. You know,
I know he's going to be a really great player
in the NFL, and you know, I think it's just early.
You know, we haven't found ways to be able to
get in the ball as much. And you know, some
of that's where on on me trying to find a
ways to getting the ball. Some of us are on
the plays and we got so many different receivers and
weapons out there that you know, some of those things

(33:39):
where it is hard to always get guys the ball.
But I always tell guys, you know, some guys will
have a great game one day and some guys might
have a great day another day. So it's just you
got to stay in that right mindset of coming in
working every day and finding ways to get better yourself.
And you know, as a receiver, as a tight end,
as a running back, you never know when your number
is gonna get called.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
So you've got to be ready to make plays when
it does.

Speaker 7 (33:58):
But m G. I think he's gonna We're gonna keep
find aways getting the ball, and he's he's gonna have
a great career here and know doubt about it.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
That was Jordan Love talking with Kay Adams on her
up in Adams podcast, And yeah, I mean we're all frustrated.
We were so excited on draft night. Right, Oh, finally
some speed, some explosiveness, a number one draft pickt receiver.
It sometimes does take a while for these guys to
break out. He has twenty one catches through seven games.
I'm gonna do the math there. That's three catches a game.

(34:26):
That's about how many times he's targeted Craft, Watson, Dobbs.
I mean, they're all above him in the pecking order.
But there will be a game, it will happen where
he breaks out. And there was a play Sunday night.
I'm sure you all saw it because collins Worth showed
it afterwards where the pack was in the red zone
and Love missed a wide open Golden who literally could
have walked into the end zone, caught it about the

(34:47):
three and just walked into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
He missed him.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
I went elsewhere was incomplete and it was another kind
of lost night for Matthew Golden. But his time is common.
We all want to see it. Maybe it's next Monday
night under the bright lights against Philadelphia. That would be
great to see. What we do know is in the
second half, this Packers' offense found their rhythm and we'll
see if they can continue that. Today Jordan Love, as

(35:09):
you know, did something Aaron Rodgers has never done and
completed twenty straight passes from the end of the first
half into deep into the second half Sunday night. I
know a lot of those passes were little dunks and
dinks that they threw a lot to. Wilson caught some
balls Craft Obviously they threw a lot of short passes.
But it's not easy to complete twenty straight passes. It's

(35:30):
also not easy to do that when TJ. Watt, Alex
high Smith, Nick Herbig and some really good pass rushers
are on the other side of the line. And Green
Bay did play into that by getting rid of the
ball quickly at times, and there was some luck involved
right he threw the ball up in the air that
Craft came down with with a slight push off and
then went nuts after catching it. The throw up to

(35:51):
Watson would look like it might get picked off at
about the five that it fell right into his hands,
but twenty straight completions. I feel like that game by
Jordan Love sort of woke a lot of people up
in the media nationally, Like not that he needed to
show it in prime time, but I think everything that
went around last week's game, all the storylines of playing

(36:12):
against Rogers and Rogers against the Pack, the fact that
he would have maybe his greatest night as a pro
in that scenario, I think made a believer out of
a lot of people that okay this. I mean Collins
Red called him a superstar last Sunday night. I mean,
I think it's taken a lot of folks around the
country some time to just believe. But he throws off

(36:32):
platform off his back foot, and he gives the defense
a chance at some balls, and can you count on
him as he consistent?

Speaker 2 (36:40):
I mean, he's just he's getting.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
Better and better, and obviously he's got a great group
of characters around him. But it's exciting as Packer fans
to watch what he has turned into and how lucky
we are.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Again.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
I think I saw the stat since FARV came around,
Rogers Love have started ninety seven percent of Packer games
over the last thirty three years or so, ninety seven percent.
Three guys. And you can't take that lightly. It's remarkable.
It does not happen. And you look at the list
of quarterbacks in that span that started for the other
three teams of this division.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
It's a long, long list.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
And so you know, we hope Love can be healthy
and stay healthy and be a guy that you can
count on weekend and week out. But what we saw
Sunday night reminded us of what we saw in the
playoff run his first year as a starter, that he's
got something a little special. And you know, clearly learning
from Rogers and watching for a few years served him
very well, and being coached by some really good coaches

(37:37):
served him very well.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
He's he's become a man.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
He's the torch has been passed, and now expectations are
rising for this team and for him, and now we see,
all right, how do you do it the next week
against a team you're favored by two touchdowns over how
do you maintain that excellence and take care of business
against a team you are supposed to be.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
That is the challenge today.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
We've been singing the praise of Jordan Love for years,
for three years, and how good we think he is.
And there's still going to be some people. I mean,
Rashan Gary said it best in the post game. He
is him and if you don't see it, now, get
the crust out of your eye and wake up, because
he's the guy. And there will be some people. I
can think of one potentially nine to noon or maybe
one on ESPN who formally coached the Jets who just

(38:21):
will not believe it until he wins the big game.
And no matter because in the big moments he's gonna
He has the highest passer rating in Sunday Night football history.
If that's a stat you were throwing out, correct, The
guy does it in big moments over and over again.
And if you want to replay one pick from three
years ago in San Francisco, that knock yourself out. But
everything else has just been lights out, precision, surgical, cold blooded, clutch,

(38:46):
throws big time throws balls, he throws. The guy has arm,
talent for days and charisma for days as well. Great dude,
great arm, great quarterback I have. We're incredibly lucky and spoiled,
that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
No question.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Kevin Seaffert reported overnight that the Vikings are actively looking
potentially at a quarterback before the trade deadline, which is Tuesday.
Maybe McCarthy's performance today might calm that a little bit,
but the Vikings are still searching and looking and making
sure they've got the right guy, or at least some
protection for the right guy. I'm not sure the Packers
will be real active before the trade deadline. Of course,
they made the massive trade before the season started. There

(39:22):
have been reports they're shopping around for a cornerback, Denzel
Ward from Cleveland. His name has come up in some reports.
I'm all for finding another corner. As much as I
liked Carrington Valentine's performance last week. That's a position they're
not very They're very thin. Nixon's been up and down,
and I would love another corner. But I'm not sure
this team wants to give up a lot of draft capital.

(39:43):
I guess I'd be surprised if they make a move
before Tuesday. It sounds like there's gonna be a lot
of trades in this league, a lot of teams looking
for pass rushers, and teams like the Dolphins putting their
whole team on the table and saying they're available. I
guess I'll be a little surprised if Green Bay pulls
a trigger on a deal by Tuesday's deadline. All right,
let's let's talk about our final talking points. Give me

(40:06):
your thoughts. I know we're both not nervous about a victory.
I'm not nervous about a victory today, but I am
nervous that maybe Carolina sticks around on this thing, still
a little bit up in the air on the fourth quarter,
which is what I don't want to see happen.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
Yeah, I've checked the shelves and we're fresh out of
bad losses and just embarrassing losses.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
We already use them up for this year.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
If they want to be considered a professional, mature Super
Bowl contender team, they have to take care of business
and put out a professional effort today. You don't have
to blow them out, you don't have to win by
thirty points. Just go out there and dominate and win
by however many points. Just put up more points than
them and I'll be fine. It feels like a trap game,
But I'm still a little nervous, but I think the
pack will win, probably by ten.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Yeah, that's about where I am. I feel like a
thirteen and a half point spread's crazy. I don't think
Green Bay covers that spread today. I think the windy conditions,
I think the Packers are going to look to just
run the ball if they have a lead. Feels like,
you know, twenty seven sixteen, twenty seven to seventeen, something
like that. You can read my preview as always at
zonecoverage dot com.

Speaker 2 (41:04):
That is up there now. Don't forget.
