Speaker 1 (00:00):
Will Michael Russo The Athletic, the Athletic dot Com at
Russo Hockey via X Michael, Good morning, And why exactly
are you in Cleveland?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm covering the rivalry series USA Canada plays game here
on Friday on Thursday nights More night, and then a
game in Buffalo on Saturday night, and then they played
two games.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
In Edmonton and as well.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Then that's in December, and then there'll be both teams
will be picking pretty much come cutting down their rosters
to the teams that will see in Milan during the Olympics.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Seven Minnesotans on the USA roster, right, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Seven Minnesotans. Sixth women that are on the frost. I
believe six or seven when I looked at it. And
you know, this is gonna be a good learning lesson
for me because Haley Salvin and are excellent women's hockey
writers is with me here in Cleveland, and I'm essentially
like an intern and I'm gonna be shadowing her today,

(01:01):
covering I believe the game solo in Buffalo, and then
I'll be solo in Edmonton and I'm gonna be covering
women's hockey as well as ment hockey in Milan.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
So you know, one of the smart things.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
That I think that we did at the Athletic is,
uh have me to start to you know, be around
uh these two teams and learn the players, learn everything,
you know, meet the right people and and and hopefully
I'll be able to do an adequate job when I'm
in Milan.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well they're there, I mean there are other names, but
like Taylor Heisei, Grace a Zumbwinkle, Kelly Panic, I mean
you you you you had to have met them in
your hockey walk up life, right.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, Hillary Knight.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
And you know, I see a lot of growth because
their their locker room is literally right next to where
we we uh hang out as press during Minnesota Wild practices.
So I've met a lot of them obviously. Uh you know,
I've watched a lot of them play for the Frost.
We all know how incredible the player Taylor is.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
So I'm really looking.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Forward to this.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Uh tell some really good stories.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Which is you know, what you want to do at
the Olympics as well, for both the men and the women.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
As you know, it's not so much about the game
coverage as it is the storytelling.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
And and so you know, I think it's important for
me to start to really learn these teams and learn
these players or not just the United States, but Canada
and and make sure that we're doing a really good
job because we're sending it about thirty of us over
to Milan, but only four or five of us are
covering the hockey and and so Haley and Ile to
covering women's and and uh and I think it'll be
an absolute class.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Well, I mean, looking at this from Afar after talking
with you yesterday, the I mean the the Wisconsin Badgers
women's hockey team, I mean just must be that of
immortality there. I think they are like four seven seven
Badgers or something on the USA roster.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, and and you know, it's really cool.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
I'm looking I'm looking forward to doing a feature on Robo,
the coach for the women's team, because he's got his
fingerprints not only on their on their roster, but the
men's He's coached the you know, at the ann Arbor program,
he coached Matt Bouldie, coached the Chuck brothers, the Hughes brothers,
and a lot of other players that will have a
chance to maybe make the United States men's team. So

(03:12):
you know, it's a really cool story of this coach.
It's now you know, transition to coaching the women's roster
here and how he's really on both Olympic teams can
be shaping it up. But to your point, I mean,
Wisconsin has an excellent program, a lot of a lot
of really good players, I mean up and down the lineup.
But if you look at the girls, you know they're
quote unquote trying out for the American team and only

(03:33):
have three or four cuts by the time Edmonson comes
around afterwards. You know, they come from all over the
United States, and that just again shows just how how
big the sport is becoming in this country.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Lastly, here this rivalry series. Who's and this may be
a dumb question, but generally speaking, or maybe even now,
who's overall better? And why USA or can? Well?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I think the United States
are going to have an incredible time. I wouldn't say
that I'm like you that I know everything about both
these teams, but I can tell you that the times
I watched them on NHL Networks, the United States teams
to have the upper hand. I went to one of
the games in San Jose, last year, either last year
or two years ago. And it's a lot of the
same girls that are that are going to basically be

(04:22):
representing the United States at the at the Olympics. And
the United States absolutely trounce Canada at the game that
I went to, so I think, you know, like, look,
these are obviously going to be the two elite nations
in Milan that are going to be going for the
gold medal. I think that the United States right now
probably has the upper hand and and that would be incredible.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Michael Russo at Russo Hockey via X. He's in Cleveland
for the USA Canada rivalry series, which begins tomorrow night,
I believe on the NHL Network with the with the
Minnesota Wild. Confusing, confusing ending to the Wild game last night,
the Wild get two and OT against Bruno and and
it was a win that left several Predators thinking they

(05:07):
got ripped off, right.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah. Mcaerran after the game told me that he thought
that they got screwed, So you're exactly right. I mean,
they weren't leaving the bench. They wanted a full explanation,
and you're right. It was a confusing way to end
the game for myriad reasons won the Wild weren't very
good last night two, that Steven Stamkos scored with three
tenths of the second to even put the Predators in
that position to have a chance to get the extra

(05:31):
point in overtime.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
And then obviously the awarded goal. It starts in.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Defenses zone where Eric Halla had had his talcket picked
by Marcus Johansson, and a really good odd man rush
led by capriceop over the net.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
And over the line.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
And you know the way that I look at it
when I look at that replay and also having the
context of what added and the goalie for Nashville was
doing multiple times in that game. You know, Capri suff
he thinks it's gonna one time it. There's no defensive help,
and he pushed the net right off the moorings. This
was not and I've gotten multiple, by the way, unsolicited

(06:05):
texts from goalies, current and former NHL goalies today that
said he was absolutely pushing the net off the moorings.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
This was not your typical push.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
From side to side. In fact, if you look, he
doesn't even try to get to the right side. His
intent was to ruin the scoring chance and push the
net off the moorings, and in that case, in an
imminent scoring chance, it's supposed to be awarded a goal. Now,
the difference here was is that Caprice uf end decided
to pass the puck. It was a deflected puck that
he was trying that Johansen was trying to put in.

(06:35):
It hit the side of the net that was already dislodged,
and then what he did is he put the rebound
through where the goal would have been. And if you
look at the referee here and again not saying he's
right or on the league obviously agreed with him, he
doesn't signal good goals on the first attempt, he signals
it on the second. So in his opinion, especially with
no defender around, his opinion was that this was this

(06:59):
continued immin in scoring chance and this would not and
this would have potentially been a goal if the net
wasn't pushed intentionally either and I'm saying intentionally, it could
be deliberate or accidental if it wasn't closed off the moorings.
So I just think that if you look at the
play overall, and he did this in the second period too,
on a wild power play, I just think if you
look at the the the actions of him all night

(07:22):
is that he just seemed to be wanting to push
the net off the moorings on scoring chances. So I
think that it was an illegal act and I think
they got the call right. I know that there's obviously
a lot of Predators fans that disagree. I'm sure there's
a lot of gamblers that totally disagree that that that
might have had the Predators winning that game. And obviously

(07:43):
there are some people in the hockey.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
World that also just that also disagree.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
The league agreed it probably wasn't. I don't think it
was good protocol by either referee. They never once explained
to the crowd what was going on. You know, we
were just watching it from afar. Even when he signaled gold,
good goal, Trevor Hanson, he just went right up to
Andrew Burdette to explain his decision. Never explained it to
the fans.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
So there was just a lot of confusion last night.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
But I still think that that Ananin did something intentional
and deliberate and illegal, and you know what, karma, he's not.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Going to do it again.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I guarantee you that Michael, with coach Hines joining forty
five minutes from now. Let me let me vet something
out with you before I chat with him, just to
make sure I don't make a mistake. So like, okay,
So Stamkos ties it with point three remaining, with that
bomb from the circle to the right of Gous All right,
thirty five years old, stamp Cost still bringing it. I
get that. But with the Eric Sinec clear he did

(08:39):
the right thing. It just hit it just hit an official, right, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Mean it was First of all, it was a great
play by the defenseman even to be able to then
corral that tuck immediately and somehow get it over to
Stamp Coost and then Stamp Cost to get a shot.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
It was just a perfect storm. I get it.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
We're all playing, you know, we're all playing Monday morning quarterback,
and you look at it, and you look at the
time of the clock with three or four seconds left,
and you're just at what when the goal goes in,
You're just saying, all right, you had three seconds, just
eat the puck, go into the corner. He was being pressured,
and I think that again, We're all we're all sitting
on our couches up in the press box watching on TV.

(09:18):
We're not in the heat of battle in the arena,
and I think that he just figured, you know, at
a minimum, I'm just going to be able to bang
this off the board or off the glass and out
of the zone and kill the rest of the clock.
He didn't anticipate that it would hit the official. The
official was part of play and it went right to
their defenseman who made an exceptional play and it was
just the perfect goal by Stamcoat. So I know it's

(09:39):
all easy for all of us to sit there and
blame Erikson neck for that, but again, you know, it's
three or four seconds left. If that thing doesn't hit
the official, it probably is out of his own It's
easy for us, I'll say, eat the puck in that circumstance.
But he is the one that's in the heat of battle.
He's been on the ice for a long time, hadn't
done well on face offs, and that's one reason why

(09:59):
they were in that position. And I think that he
just figured I could just whip this thing out of
his own and unfortunately it just wound up going to them,
and in the end, the Wild got the second point
at least, but they did give a team that's ahead
of them in the standing the point and the Wild
I've done that a couple of times now this season.
They blew it three nothing lead at home against LA
and gave them a point. So that needs to stop

(10:20):
because as we saw last year, the Wild made the
playoffs in the tiebreaker that took a miracle by Arsonak.
If verisonek doesn't score that goal with twenty seconds left
in Game eighty two, the Wild don't make the playoffs.
So these points matter, and the Wild to put themselves
in a position where they got to start getting regulation
wins and stop giving their division and conference opponents points

(10:40):
that are unnecessary.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Well, so, Radio, tell me what you think about this.
Coroll Capriesov is the best overall player on the Minnesota Wild.
He's the one that captures the most attention Marcus Johansson
this year, he's not far behind. Right.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Well, he's been extremely good. I mean there's no doubt
about it, and.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
A lot of that come because he's boiled up on
that line with Capri stuff. He has a six game
point straights, five goals in that stretch. I tweeted out
today because I couldn't because I was just walking through
the airport and thinking about this. But and I looked
it up on his game laws. But last year he
got his sixth goal in the fifty seventh game, and
now he had six goals in fourteen.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
And last year he got his.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Twelfth point in twenty seven games, and he has his
twelve points now in fourteen. So he's playing excellent. I mean,
there's no doubt about it, because I'm all sorts of
props see three games from a huge milestone in his
career for one of the big reasons why he wanted
to come back to the NHL this year and play
only for the Wild. And he signed a real budget
friendly deal that's for sure, at eight hundred grand, which

(11:40):
is essentially the league minimum. And and right now he's
been as good as as good as we've ever seen him,
probably since the beginning of his second stint here when
he got here and started playing with Eric Knack and Boldie.
So he's playing great. We'll see what happens now. Because Zukurello,
you know, yesterday, when I was talking to Bill Garon
in the press box, it sounded like I think he
was expecting zu Carella would be on this trip. They

(12:03):
played tomorrow at Carolina and Friday at the Islanders. I
can't imagine that they would have him played back to back.
So there's a really good chance that if Dukerella is
on this trip, that we're going to see him onlin
Island on Friday. Well that you know, almost certainly, I
would think that Zukerella goes immediately back with Correll. And
if that is the case, then Joe Hanson probably goes
down to the second line. Then Tarasenko goes to the third.

(12:24):
So how does now Johansson being away from uh the preestots,
assuming that happens him, We'll have to We'll have to see.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
But right now he's been really, really good.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
That's a great point. Uh uh a z Bullyam, has
has z taken just a leap year or two? Or
is this turning into a massive leap?

Speaker 2 (12:45):
You know when I just I missed we had a
little dead spot there.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
What do you ask, Ze Bullyam? Uh, he's taken a lead,
But like, is this is this embarking on potentially a
massive jump?

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Well, I think he's going to be a star in
this league. You know, I remember brock Favor, you know,
it was kind of treading along his first month month
and a half in the NHL, and then Ashley John
Hines took over and he absolutely took off and had
and wound up winning, you know, being a Calder Trophy
runner up and got the huge deal. And I think
that Zeve is slowly abiding his time. You know, he

(13:18):
has started playing third pair. A lot of the reasons
was that before that was to try to get Middleton
away from your check and Spurgeon away from him and
start to get everybody feeling a little bit maybe more normal.
I think even and your Check had good moments and
bad moments, but so have every every player on this
team and every defense and on this team. I think,
you know, uh, we see Z's come out there yesterday.

(13:41):
He's now getting second power play minutes and he comes
out there and immediately sports a goal. And you know,
I'd like to see, you know, like in New York
right now, Matthew Shaffer, who's probably the favorite to win
the Calder Trophy. He's getting a ton of minutes. He's
the first overall pick, but he is he's playing in
every situation. Maine Hudson last year in Montreal, the the

(14:04):
Canadians really dealt with his early season at some struggles
and he turned into a player that erupted and wound
up winning the Calleger Trophy. What I'd love to see
from the wild is just giving Zeve a little more rope.
You know, understand that. Look, he needs to be coached here.
Maybe they'll start doing this in a month, but you know,
let's see him more on the power play and get

(14:25):
more minutes. You know, three on three is an area
where we haven't seen him on the ice yet, and
that should be where his cup of tea is.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
He's got a long career ahead of him.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Obviously, there's trust, you know, there's conflicting interest here, right
John Hines needs to keep his job, he needs to win,
and he trusts guys like Marcus Johansson, Jared Spurgeon, players
that are veterans that are playing above guys like Danela.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
You're off, you're over, and.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Who's in the minor is now Zev and your check.
But at some point here, you know, I think they
got to give him a little more rope and let's
see what he has. But he's got a long career
ahead of him. He's gone a quarterback the number one
power play for the rest of the time here in Minnesota.
So if it doesn't happen right now, I don't think
fans need to.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Get totally frustrated. But I do think that he is
just an absolutely special player.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
A couple of quick ings to close your Michael Ipief
time for the for Bruno's brats for the Predators. Matthew
would the former Gopher he scored last night. Is is
he pretty good? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
He is. He is gigantic too. I had no idea
until I saw him in the hallway yesterday before the game.
He is. And then he scored just a you know,
a terrific goal. So I think that, you know, I
think the Predators, look, they are struggling right now. They're
especially struggling to score goals. You know, I talking to
Barry Trotz yesterday.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
You know he's not exactly happy.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Bruno has not been exactly happy. Uh stamcost is somebody
that they obviously gave a big ticket.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
He had a tough first year there.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
His shot volume is significantly down. Yesterday it was his
first point in nine games. Marciuso hasn't been as good.
They still have issues up the middle there in Nashville,
and so I think that they are a team that
still has a lot a lot to prove, but what's
going to be a really good player for them, And
and we'll see how they continue to do here.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
They go to New.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
York at the end of this week and then they
hit the Sweden to play the Penguins and uh, kind
of on that same global series track that the Wild
had a couple of years ago. And but Bruno, I
know is you know, it's been tough times, and I
know he's uh, he's trying to get them to write
the ship. I thought they played great yesterday. I thought
they checked really well, made life very difficult for the Wild,

(16:29):
and the Wild they're lucky that they.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Got two points. They're lucky they got one point. Let
it go on two. Actually the way that they played
yesterday in the seven and.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Third periods, yeah, I agree. And they run it back
to back with travel zher and two on back to
back into that game, and and they they they muddled
the game. They just mucked it up with the best
chance giving them the best chance to win. And they're
winning all the right face offs late late in the game.
So they uh, yeah, they they really really brought it
for Bruno yesterday.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Man, I think lost three face offs stretch there and
then the reason they had the one day of the
one shift in the second parier that the wild escapes
where the Hartman line was out there for three minutes,
and then Tarasenko just would not get off the ice
if I'm turning the puck over. So it was a
it was a weird game. The Wild somehow prevailed.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Hey, and and speaking of Gophers and away from last night,
how high end is logan goalie? I mean twelve points
and thirteen games and eight goals. That guy's phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Yeah, he is going to be a thorn in the
side of the wild for a long long time. I mean,
you know, if you had a redraft right now, I
know it's early, but you might go one or two
in that draft. And what it was, the fifth overall pick,
and and he just looks like, I mean, what scares
me about the Utah Mammate is that all their guys,
maybe except for Nick Schmaltz, all their guys are signed

(17:49):
long term, all their young core, from Clayton Keller to
JJ Peturka to Dylan Gunther to Logan Cooley. And I
think I'm forgetting one. I mean, they are just.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
An excellent, excellent fast hockey team.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I think they still need a little more meat, you know,
in their bottoms, in their bottom six, but they are
you know, to be able to compete in the playoffs.
But Logan Cooley is going to be somebody that, you know,
I really think that Bill Garrett's got to give him
a shot to make the Olympics. It might be a
little too soon for that, considering how many incredible American
hockey players are and where they are at center.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
You know.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
I wrote a USA sort of projection story the other
day and Jack Hughes has been one of the best
players with Jack Eichel, of all the Americans of the
NHL this year. He really struggled in the poor Nations
that wing. So they're probably going to move him in
the center. And if they move him to center, that's
going to make it a little tougher for Logan to
make the team. But he is going to be just
a superstar in this league, I think.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
All right. Lastly, first winning streak of the season for
the Wild Now to Carolina tomorrow night, then at the Islanders,
back to back calgery here to close the weekend next
three How many points should we expect from the Minnesota Wild.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Yeah, I think you want to get at least four.
I mean, obviously they want they want to go clean,
clean it up. I mean, Carolina is a great hockey team.
I spent some time around them a couple of weeks
ago for a couple of stories that I was working on.
But they are injury riddled right now. They're getting some
guys back. They went into the Madison Square yesterday and
shut them out. But the Rangers are just reeling right now.
So you know, look, you want to win that game.

(19:18):
Second back to back at the Islander's a physical team
that's been playing much much better, had some fresh young
youth with guys like Simon Holmestroom and Matthew Schaeffer. I mean,
that's gonna be a tough step in the back to back,
but you better.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Be Calgary when you come home. I mean that that
seemstincs and.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
So that's why I say, if you can, if you can,
just look when I talked to Rod Brindimore last year's
Wild game in Carolina, he says that's the best that
any team's played them in the regular season, and Gustuson
was phenomenal. But the Wild went into Raley last year
and played a tremendous game. So if you can just
win that one, then roll the dice in New York
where they wild had that bad loss last year that

(19:55):
really almost unraveled their season. And then and then come
home and be Calgary. You're starting to look much much
better in the standings.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Thanks brother, safe travels. All right, all see it, take care,
see you about marathon segment. Thanks to Steve's appliances and
Steve's appliances dot com with Michael Russo Russo Radio was

Speaker 4 (20:25):
But first, this the Fan along with two men in

Speaker 1 (20:41):
It's nine to now. Do you stumble upon like some
spaceship sounders, I just I've hit I think it's this one, yes,
so many times today it's not that I'm looking for
like five options. I'm just looking to replace it and
try and do. That's the beauty of this job is
we can sample. It's like it's like working in the
culinary field and like being on radio or TV, preferably

(21:04):
preferably TV. They can line things up in front of you,
in front of you and say which one do you
like most? That ain't gonna be it. That's a car crash. Jeez.
I think maybe the one you put it, you put
out there first for years might be the best one.

(21:26):
I think that's the one. Yeah, I like that one.
Two receivers left it right there. We hit the wrong
one there. Okay, look what I found. Friday Football Feast
Buffalo Wild Wings, Elk River at nine fifteen. This guy,

(21:48):
it's third and ten from the Vikings fourteen. Two receivers
left and right, Rivers shotgun, Vikings rush four Philip dump
over the middle. Paul's got into the air. All right,
I'm just gonna stick with Vikings sounder ray.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
Oh no, I think I think that's the best one.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Uh, this is so look at this, Look at all,
Look at all this this treasure that's hidden here in news.
Holy cow. Now this system's just where's full of it?
All of this stuff been all my life? What is this?
And the Vikings offense now orchestrated by Kevin Stefanski, Jay
walks onto the field the Tuesday dismissile of offensive coordinator

(22:28):
John d. Polippo Dolphins game. Yeah it's it's three minutes
forty three seconds of December seventeenth and the Columns first game.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
I got it.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
I got it.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Actually, gosh, now you're now this is on air production.
Do we have all the Vikings Dolphins?

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I don't know Dolphins?

Speaker 3 (22:46):
What?

Speaker 1 (22:47):
No, this isn't a separate spot. This is by the Sounders. Okay,
Dolphins and then you know what's on the horizon a
month and a half from now. Merry Christmas, Vikings fans,
you are the best. Here we go, Here we go
on the first day of Chris miss My Vikings gate
to me a topsy turvy season in the Perche or

(23:08):
the Perge. In twenty twenty, I think Onordo and I
did that song wearing masks. That's why it sounded a
little muddled.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Well, you just had me remember him because earlier in
the week I was given I was given Bursich some heck,
because he absolutely lost it on the Jamison Williams push off.
And I think he's right and he had a right
to be mad, but how much he hates his rivals.
There was a Dalvin Cook touchdown in that twenty nineteen
Dolphins game when Stefanski took over, or twenty eighteen game, Yeah,
where he does a spin move on somebody and gives

(23:39):
the peace sign to the end zone. There you go,
and it sounded like Bursich. I mean, let's just say
he strained something so badly he had to check his
pants after the game. And when Dalt, when Dalvin put
that spin move on the linebacker.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
And that one was here, that was at US Bank, Yeah, yeah,
because remember the last time we played the Dolphins down there,
we played against the Gang the Gank, the gink is
on fire. He was the ink was on the other team. Yeah,
twenty twenty two and Dalvin Cook scored that touchdown and

(24:15):
threw the ball up into the stands. Yes he did.
He went from fifty three m. But that just had me.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
That had me thinking back that twenty eighteen season where
de Filippo gets canned because he doesn't want to run
the ball. Awful loss at seaddle doesn't even get to
take the team playing home basically, and then what does
Stefanski do smartly eventual two time coach of the Year,
He's like, we're gonna run for two hundred on the Dolphins.
The new guy rolls in. You want me to run

(24:42):
the ball? Okay, yeah, here we go. So that rushing touchdown?
You say yes.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
First and ten from the Miami eighteen hand off the tavious.
He gallops to the fifteen, to the ten, to the five,
runs into the end zone from eighteen and the Vikings
lead twenty zero might be this one. First and fifteen
from the Dolphins, twenty one Cousins from under center hands

(25:11):
it to Doe. He spins the heat from the Dolphin
at the fifteenth spins is that the one that's the Russian?
To you started over? So I could really I want
to hear one more time with the Oh what's about? Oh?
Is that what it is? Because here's the other handoff
Dalvin Cook. He spins it around the up side, turns

(25:32):
it up at the town that's not the round, stops
to spend month. First and fifteen from the Dolphins twenty
one Cousins from under center hands it to Doe. He
spins them at the fifteen spins. Oh that's terrific, all right,
ten thirty nine? What you got up your sleeve with them?

(25:52):
With something you told me about multiple days ago, and
here we are on a Wednesday unfurling it.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Well, here, here's just me being me in a rupee.
Is you have your best win of the season. You
have maybe as healthy as you've been all season in
terms of the roster time.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
No need to rush this because we have opens after
heyen Z, yes we do.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
But just looking at kind of the shape of the NFC,
I mean, I'll be honest with you, Pa, after the
shellacking that the Vikings took to the via the Chargers
at so far, I'm not saying season's over. That's just
not how I've ever looked at things. But you start thinking, Okay,
final game, final ten games of the season. You're a
three to four team, You've been beaten and battered the

(26:37):
entire way. You're exhausted. Let's just get the kid QB
back and see what we have in JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
If you are a.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Seven or an eight win team, but you know in
January that either this could be a problem or this
is a platform to build with. In number nine, I
think that's a W in terms of the long term
of the organation.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
And I'm not a defeatist, but I know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
But after what we saw the thirty seven to ten debacle,
I'm starting to think and change my face in terms
of what to expect out of this group. Well, ten
days later they go to ford Field and they handle business.
So now suddenly, because I'm a child and my emotions
ride the roller coaster of wins and losses in a
week to week league, I start to look at things
and I'm thinking, Okay, four and four, don't like that

(27:24):
could have gotten the Steelers w and we can play
the hindsight game. But this NFC is super muddy and
effectively all these teams, in one way or another have warts.
We saw the warts of a Philadelphia Eagles team, very beatable,
very game for a wa US Bank stadium. We could
not capture that, but we saw it the Bucks at

(27:47):
six and two. You know, at one point you're talking
about Baker Mayfield being an MVP candidate, But how beaten
and battered are they down in Tampa right now? If
you're listening to WDVE and you're checking out and taking calls,
and rooms are hitting the text line iHeartRadio go crazy.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
They're talking about how.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Beaten up and battered they are right now in a
division that should be a walk, but depending upon how
Pennis and the Falcons operate, may not be.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
I don't know how much over here you can see,
but it's like, when I get into the Lauran, Well,
what's the Lauran, it's the prophet indeed, and I start
like scrolling up and down and stuff, or when I
get into the sneaky news or bits or beds or whatever,
your your speech always pauses. So you're like, well Van Ginkle,

(28:33):
and then I get into the bit, Well Van Ginkle
did this, and and then I stopped. You like, Andie,
what's Paul doing over there trying to mess up the
entire spot set. Well, I'm just I'm just waiting.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
I'm waiting for you to jump in with like an
old Ray Edwards Sack highlight, just to enjoin your repartee. So,
but but that's that's kind of the frame of this,
and maybe after Hines, whether it's I have a few
highlights in the mix and just kind of breaking things down. Well,
why wouldn't I The situation for the Vikings, this is
stone cold obvious to most is of course win the

(29:06):
division games, right yes or no? Absolutely, teams two and
zero on the road in the division, and so you
love what you're seeing there.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
And we're going to have Bears.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
And Packers a couple of weeks from now, so we'll
get those ws in the division. But really, the way
this thing is framing up is who's going to send three?
Will it be the NFC North or will it be
the NFC West, Because you're looking at two divisions right
now that certainly are three deep of organizations that are

(29:39):
game for postseason action, and that would be of course
the Lions, the Packers and the Vikings. If what we
saw on Friday is not an aberration and what we are,
what we saw on Sundays not an aberration, and we
can build on that against Lamar this weekend. But out
in the West, man, everybody may have warts. But whether
you're looking at the Niners that are six and three,

(29:59):
how wrong about them? Man? They are beaten and battered
and they're figuring it out with mac jones and they
got McCaffrey and kittlehealthy.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Still no IYU.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
They're hoping for Ricky piersall all the things that are
going wrong with that team, they just continue to win games.
And the schedule for the Niners about as easy as
any schedule in the NFL down the stretch. The Seahawks,
I think they're going to have some problems with the
QB in some spots. If you can get them in
those spots, that's.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
A big proclamation right there.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
However, McDonald's eleven and one on the road defense is
playing well. They can run the ball a little bit.
I think they just they you know, they like that
Tory is it Tory Horton? Yep, the rookie and Jack.
But but they just added Rashid Shaheed that that deep
threat from the Saints, so that that's a team that's
going to be tough to take down. And we're going

(30:46):
to get to see him at at Loomin in a
few weeks on the road for a three PM game.
And then the Rams really they lose a I think
an ot game to the Niners and then they lost
in that defensive touchdown to the Eagles. Otherwise, the Rams
are good, man are getting real healthy. So who's going
to send three in a conference that has so many warts.
Will it be the NFC West or will it be

(31:08):
the NFC North? And just kind of looking down the road,
we can still handle our business and hoist an NFC
North crowd crown, but it's going to get very crowded
among those wildcard teams, and I think it's either West
or North and how we can position ourselves within that
muddy mix.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
I have a suggestion, let's let's pay that off with
opinions wild following Heinze at eleven o'clock, I dig it,
But News de Nord is next. Put up.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
It's News de Nord, which is brought to you by
the casino at Canterbury Parkcanterbury Park dot com and you
can I almost went into the thousand hills read as
you said, beef.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
It's beefy out there.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
Canterbury is awesome, by the way, and you can feel
the felt it's poker, it's blackjack. It sounds like there's
some cool ten thousand dollars giveaway bits that you can
be a part of just by going there and having
a blast. The dealers are cool, the ViBe's fun, and
they treat you like they actually enjoy having you there,
which is a nice change, and you can have SIPs
and chips live racing off for the season, of course.

(32:13):
But Thursdays tomorrow go down to Shakape because it's the
NFL Pro Pick Them Challenge and you just picked the
NFL games over the weekend and you have a weekly winner,
a little walking around money, a winner.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
At the end of the year.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
However, we'll get free fuel for a year thanks to
Quick Quick Trip. So thank you Canterbury, Thank you Quick Trip.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
How about this? Thank you? How about this? Let me
find it here? There we go.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
I saw this and it's been other places. Sam Ammick,
you're probably familiar with him.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Thank he's NBA dot com. Well, he's a senior writer
for the Athletic. Now think he's not. But he says
the Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Timberwolves are monitoring Job Morant's situation in Memphis. And here's
the quote, courtesy of NBA Central. But is Shams Athletic
Shams is Shams' is ESPN No? I think, yeah, yeah,
he took over. Maybe the WOJ bomb job got it.
But the Minnesota Timberwolves, per a team source, he says,

(33:08):
are one assumingly of the team's monitoring John Morant in Memphis,
Ditto for the Sacramento Kings. The Grizzlies next opponent, the
Houston Rockets, need a point guard after losing Van Vliet
to a torn acl in the preseason, but per a
team source, are unlikely to pursue him. That's just a
sample size of what might be out there and not
out there if the Morant sweepstakes ever actually begin.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
So some reports that just you know what.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
Per team source, he says that the Wolves and what
level of monitoring quote unquote is going on. Who knows,
but John Morant, as you were telling me, I was
not aware of. Sounds like not all things are rosy
down in Memphis. But the Wolves looking at a point
guard spot. We're trying to sell ourselves and we're rooting

(33:56):
and hoping that the Vincenzo can do it.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Has been much better, but maybe just wears the.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Mask the whole season, and the mask apparently allows him
to hit six threes like he did the other day.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Yeah, I don't, I don't. I mean, I'm casting my
gaze way down the line here, and I like Dante
DiVincenzo on this team. I mean, I don't.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
I don't think it's a long term issue option from
from from playoff game standpoint.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
I mean you got to start, can you mind them on?
Think about that a little.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
Bit, well not just that, but you know, Dillingham still
has a chance to grow in all of those things.
But did you did you ever feel like maybe you'll
talk about it? Because I think I think Finchy might
join us tomorrow At nine am, I heard something and
this is almost a week ago now, but Arren Shannon
Junior was kind of he was talking about his own
game and just how he felt like he hadn't been

(34:41):
assertive enough, that he wasn't being aggressive enough in some spots,
and I'd just like to hear it through you.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Know, six seven games with Finchy, just.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
Kind of what he thinks whether Terren Shannon Junior big
opportunity for him, but also and I know he had
a nose issue as well, so that kept him out
of the mix and kind of staggered his flow into
the season. But Dillingham, what do you think through this
stretch as well? You were talking about Rudy earlier with Parker,
and I thought that conversation was fun to hear during
the opening segment.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
So just kind of where Finchy's head's at on some
of that stuff.

Speaker 4 (35:11):
But I mean, if you're just thinking about like personalities
in the NBA, I mean, if everybody's healthy, you might
have the most athletic court in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
If you added John Morant to the roster.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I don't know how you how far you could go
down the road of relying on him as it pertains
to some weird ankle bit that will inevitably pop a
hamstring thing of some sort, there'll be miss games.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Maybe there's an attitude.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
He's already been suspended for a game once this year
for I think it was like conduct detrimental to a team.
I think he freaked out on his own team and
had to be suspended for a game. Good player costs
about forty million dollars based on his contract.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
I don't know how that all works.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Sounds like you're you're talking about maybe your starting center
or maybe a certain three and D wing player that
we're still told is just a starwight to burst and
mister McDaniels.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
So I don't know how any of it would work.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
But apparently the Wolves are monitoring Jaws situation in Memphis.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Yeah, with Finch joining nine to noon tomorrow at right
out of the gate of nine. I'm hoping we get
more than forty five seconds of the interview because when
I welcome him in Chris Finch second Harvest Heartland to
Harvest dot Org Nordo, the producer tells me, you guys
are trying to trade for John Morant. I always love
that boy. Can you confirm or deny me? Thank you?

(36:29):
Do you think he'd buy into the ruse?

Speaker 4 (36:30):
If you just notice, like, okay, well you've asked me
now for just general questions about John Moran when Memphis
is not on our schedule. We just ant came back.
We beat Brunson and Cat last night at MSG. You're
asking me about Jaw's pull up game. What the hell's
going on here? But we shall see. I hope Anthony

(36:52):
place tonight.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
I didn't. I did not realize that A he practiced
yesterday and b that he's questionable tonight. So that's that's
good news with things getting good in that hood.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Indeed, and I just got this from the text line,
very good point. Added benefit for John Morant. Minnesota is
an open carry state. I always love that one. Down
six four six eight six weird goal to end the
Wild game.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
Oh, a pro check by Johansson. The Wild app numbers
here Johnson an open ice for Capriso over the bull
line right side. Capriso dropped it back favor back to Caprice.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
I've hacked it in front of it and pressed the
met off.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Pay score, pay score. They're gonna give it a good
goal to the Wild. Hey, Mark is so hands in.
It's done it over.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
Time, man, I still don't you know? It's it's intentionally pushed.
The goal is off the moorings, so I get. I
get how that ends. I wasn't aware that effectively you
would still allow play and just kind of he passed
it over the goal line where the goal should.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
Have been, and it was a winner. You talked with
Russo Marks.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Johansson has been terrific through these fourteen games. I think
he already has six goals. You dig that we need offense,
so we dig Jojo doing his thing and the Minnesota
Wild now have won two in a row. They cap
off their home stretch with two consecutive victories. You saw
William get his second or third I think it was
his third goal third to make it two to one,
zero point three seconds left in the freaking third and Stamcoast,

(38:16):
the sniper that he is, finds his way to the
net to four SOT. But it's cool that the Wild
leave Minnesota now with four points in their last two games.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
We dig that and got to keep it rolling.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
And it's cool because I think we're going to have
the head coach to talk about how they keep it rolling.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Next segment, right, Heinzy begins the eleven and that M
one hundred point three k An
