Speaker 1 (00:00):
Human.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
What up Nordowen for PA nine to noon. The host
will return tomorrow. It's vocal maintenance day and joining me
now his squad winners of five consecutive, just swept four
in a row at home. We're digging all that beat
the Caps last night. Head coach of the Minnesota Wild
John Hines, Good morning, John, and congratulations on the victory morning, Nordal.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Thanks thanks for having me. And yeah, it was nice
to get a nice win last night.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, it was a nice win.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
And in the comfy confines in front of the home faithful.
It was the seventh shutout of the season for your squad, John,
That's the most in the NHL, by the way, thus
far this season.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
They're tough to get, but they don't get old, do they.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
No, they are. They are hard to get. You got
to have a combination of excellent goaltending and strong defensive play,
and you know, we've been able to do that quite
a bit. So it's nice when you can. When you can,
you know, play collectively well and keep the puck out
of your net a lot of times, that's a good
recipe to win hockey games.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Vladimir Tarasenko is part of the five nothing win. He
had a couple and I bet you were pumped to
see him get rewarded with that two goal performance last night.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, it certainly is. I think Vladdy's been you know,
he's been a good addition to our team. I think
he brings he brings a lot like he's been a
guy that's been around. He's he's won two Stanley Cups,
so he's been involved in that, knows what winning looks like.
He's gotten well, really long, gotten along well with our
(01:40):
veteran players coming in and you know, I think he works.
He's been working hard for us, and it's nice to
see a guy that I think expects himself to be
able to produce and we need him to produce to
get rewarded for all the hard work and strong two
way play that he's had for us so far the season.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
You know, usually when I fill in for Pa John,
I ask you some obscure, weird coaching question just because
as I'm an outsider and those sorts of things interest me.
But what is it when when you're coaching a guy
like vlad and you mentioned it, whether it's it's the it's.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
The championship winning equity?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I mean Tarasenko's had a ton of great years and
great moments in this league. So what is that like
kind of ushering him along and you know, working to
hopefully have him recapture some of that at this part
of his career.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, I think when you you know, when you have
guys like like Laddie that have been around the league
a long time and have gone through high level of experiences,
have been an an elite player in the league, that
it's it's it's trying to understand, you know, get to
know him personally, which started in the offseason. And you know,
I think when when players like him come into your team,
I think there there's there has to be some relationship
(02:47):
building and understand his mindset and what, you know, how
he sees things and how we see things, and be
able to communicate. And you know, what I found with
him is that he really values is winning and I
think sometimes those things don't always show up on the
score sheet. But he makes the right plays at the
right time. He cares about little details, whether it's it's
(03:12):
line changes. He's defensively responsible, he's willing to block shots.
You know, he plays left wing, he plays right wing.
He plays with different players. You know, he plays on
our power play. He also plays when we're you know,
trying to hold the lead five on six because you know,
he's got that experience, but he's got the commitment to
do the things, the thankless jobs that it takes to win. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Absolutely, and we saw that last night. It was fun
to do.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I mean, i'd say in some ways it looked like
he kind of turned the clock bit back a bit
last night. Now, as part of this this operation and
the winning ways two of those games have included Quinn Hughes.
You're still happy that that we have Quinn Hughes on
the team now, right?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah? Yeah, I mean Clint Glints obviously, when you know
we were able to make the trade and Billy was
able to get it done, it's you know, I think
you see the type of talent that you can add
into your team. But again, when you look at a
guy like Quinn, he's a top two defenseman in the league.
He brings so much to a team from his skating
(04:15):
and his skill set and the things that he can
do is power play, his ability to skate and defend.
But again, you're getting a player that's been a captain
of Vancouver Canucks. He's played in huge international tournaments and
things like that. So you're also adding a high character guy,
a leader in your room, a guy with tremendous experience
as well as unbelievable ability on the ice. So that combination,
(04:39):
you know, really, I think invigorates the team. You can
see it's invigorated the fan base, and we're so happy
to have him, and glad.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
He chose us.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, watching last night's game in particular, and you know,
sadly Damon Hunt gets nicked up, he has to leave,
and I'm watching Faber and Hughes. I think they both
eclipsed twenty seven minutes of ice.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Time last night.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
So I hope they got a good but dumb question
alert number two. The chemistry that is built, how quickly
it takes bringing a new guy in the mix. And
it feels like a meet me halfway scenario where some
of this is on Hughes, some of it's on the team.
But building that chemistry when you bring a guy in
not even midstream, but early in the season like this,
(05:19):
what's that like getting Faber and Hughes to kind of
just become unconscious as they play together, potentially on a
nightly basis.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah, I think when you when you're dealing with two
guys of that ill you know where they have high
hockey sense and there you know, top defense in the league.
It's you know, there's certain things they're going to be
able to do based on talent and communication. And I
think it's a good you know, they're both good skaters,
they both can move the park, they both care about defending,
so I think all all those components have the makeup
(05:52):
of a strong, deep aair. And like you said, I
think it isn't meet me halfway at times. It's it's
Phades really communicating with Quinn about certain things that you know,
we do systematically. But at the same time, I think
that the Chemra stream has been good and it's I
think it's just going to continue to grow. I think
Quinn said even the other night it was might take
five or ten games to really get totally in sync,
(06:14):
whether that's him with the power play or with Babes
or you know, exactly what's going on, so things become
second nature to him. But when you're talking about the
quality of player, it's an impact guy right away, no
matter what you no matter what way you slice it.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah, absolutely part of the power play, and you see
capriz Off get paid off with another goal.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Last night, you're off with a goal.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I'm trying to get this nicknamed the krem line going
when we talk about what these Russians are producing for
your squad. I don't know if it'll stick. We'll see
winning at home, John. So this this the comfy confines
of Excel Energy Center now Grand Casino Arena. You know,
it felt like at times you're getting out alive with
a point in overtime or a shootout. Last couple of
(06:55):
years defending home ice, there were some ups and downs,
a roller coasts to ride of sorts. Your squad's really
been dominating in front of the home fan base and
really made this an advantage and an awful place to
play for the visitors. That's just what I've noticed from
Afar thus far in the season.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
You see it at all like that, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
I certainly do. I think it's it's something that we've
you know, we've talked about is wanting to make this
this a hard place to play, and I think there's
really a combination to that. It's it's how the team
plays and how committed the guys are uh to playing
a winning style of game. I think you know, on
this home stretch we've been ready to play every night
(07:35):
at a high level, extremely competitive, strong attention to detail,
lots of contributions throughout the lineup, and as you said,
we want to we want to make it the way
that we play here that people are coming in here
and know it's going to be difficult to play against.
I think hand in hand with that is, you know,
the crowd's been excellent, I think, supporting the guys and
bringing energy to the arena. And I think when you
(07:56):
have the combination of the crowd support and the way
that the team's playing, there is a vibe around the
building and a drive within the team to make this
a difficult place to play.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Last thing for you here, it's Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow night,
chance to make it six in a row.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Excited to see it happen. You know, I'm not going
to run down the.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
List, but you're aware that we're nursing some some health
related bits and I'll just leave it here, just kind
of any potential for some of these guys that we
could see either back as early tomorrow night or maybe
when you jump back home to Saint Paul, and just
see some of those familiar faces, the Zookies, the Joe
Hansen's the season that he's having.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
I can't wait to see him back on the ice.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
But some of these guys maybe to get healthy in
the next few games to come, Yeah, I would think so.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I don't anticipate anyone coming back for the Columbus game tomorrow,
but I do you know, we do have two more
days until we hit the doubleheader on the weekend. Yeah,
so I would anticipate having probably some more knowledge of
potential guys coming back for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
All right, looking forward to that and looking forward to
seeing you guys get two points in Columbus tomorrow night.
Always appreciate your time when you join us. Coach, have
an awesome Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Thanks Dough, appreciate him. I always enjoy being on with
you guys, So have a good day.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Thank you. That's head coach John Hines.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Minnesota Wild, winners of five straight, just swept the homestand
just a quick little roady in Columbus. Then they'll come
back home and hopefully continue dominating at Grand Casino Areta.
I mentioned that just because the last couple of years
you've seen this team struggling in front of the home fans.
You as as the hardcore state of hockey faithful, you've
seen that as well, points in sixteen of their nineteen
(09:35):
home games, and some of them in very lopsided dominating fashion.
So just appreciating bringing the home ice advantage back here
to Saint Paul.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Thanks to John Hines. Good luck tomorrow against the Blue Jackets.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
When we returning the hockey conversation continues with a face
that I have missed for months, Pat Mick two six
two six, I haven't seen him. Gosh, it feels like
maybe since the summer. I'm gonna get to see him
in about four and a half minutes. As he joins
and we continue talking about the wild maybe we jump
into the Gophers.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
We got the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
We got really cool stuff on the ice happening right
in front of us, and I'm excited to talk about
that with Patrick and Moore. As the second hour continues,
Sam producing Sam Byrd producing I don't really include the
last name. I don't know why, but it's Sam Byrd.
Get to know him, and I'm Nordoen for Pa. It's
the fan.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Well, look who's here?
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Nine to noon Nordo Wen for PA Vocal maintenance day
and play.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
We don't have to introduce each other doing I'm past.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Oh hey, nice to meet you. I'm Eric Norton. Has
to meet you.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Well, it's been for it's been months, man, too long,
way too long.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
We text every once in a while, and but that's
on me, a shame on me.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
I don't think that's well.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
I could have dropped in to say hello, and I
could have dropped in too, Yeah, you could have.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
So I mean, let's just let's put the ons on me. Well,
I'm going to put the onus on me and we'll
let we'll let Its great to see you, Oh, it's
great to see you at Pat Mick two six six
Pat mcletty. Whether it's beyond the pond, it's beyond the pod.
He's doing work with with Gophers hockey or college hockey.
You're all over the map, You're all over the place.
(11:46):
Whoever takes me, whoever takes until they tell me you're done.
I'll keep doing this. So Friday night, I'm sitting in
my kitchen, yeah, with baby Hannah, and she's running around
and we just got some new appliances, so she wants
to see if she can fit in the oven and
gosh that video she's beautiful, and uh, but we're running around,
(12:10):
playing around in the kitchen and uh, I got a
call from a buddy of mine, Joel, and he's like,
what do you think of this Hughes thing?
Speaker 1 (12:18):
I'm like, what the hell are you talking about with
this Hughes thing? And uh, it's it's it's I I.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I love my fair share of doom scrolling, but once
in a while I'm not directly connected to my phone.
So I was like what He's like, Yeah, we got
Quinn Hughes Like, holy bleep, you're lying. Yeah, So I
hung up on him, jumped on the and then I
learned it first person. I texted, what does Pat mcletty
think about this?
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Oh? I know you were on cloud nine. You were
probably waiting out.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
You got a handful of people like me in your
life that are always gonna okay, Well, I need to
know what what mikaeletty thinks of this? And uh, we
were over the moon about it, and now we've gotten
to see it twice on the ice where in our
sweater is just how good is this? You know?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
How funny?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I'm certainly not going to pat myself on the back.
But about a week before this happened, I'm talking to
another hockey guy, and you know, I'm seeing all this stuff.
You know, he's going to Detroit, he's going to the Rangers,
he's going to Carolina, he's going to Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Not even in the conversation.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And I said, you know what, why why not just
make an offer, you know, And they said, you know,
not going to happen. I'm like, yeah, probably not, you know,
but why not? And and then I saw I was
with my son and he said, you're not going to
(13:42):
believe this, you know, Quinn Hughes is traded here. I'm like, okay,
you're are you okay? I'm like, seriously, are you okay?
Speaker 1 (13:54):
And he said no, no, And I'm like, who they get, Well,
there hasn't been announced to is going the other way?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
And then you know we heard about it. But yeah,
what what a move?
Speaker 1 (14:08):
What a move?
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Because if you don't make it, if you don't if
you have the ability to get the second best defenseman
in the world and you don't take a chance or
don't take a swing at it, right, then shame on you.
Then shame on you. And they did, and he pulled
it off. And you know, what do we know about
(14:29):
Bill Garon He's no bs right, he doesn't want to play,
you know, just like the caprice of stuff. He said,
when we'll get to it, when we'll get to it,
you know, it's it. I'm going to get this done.
And it got Harry and late and all that stuff,
and we know, and he had to go up a
little bit, but he was. He said he's going to
(14:51):
get it done. He got it done, and so you know,
you have to you have to applaud him.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Doesn't that Isn't that frustrating though?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
And I mean, and I I like and respect Bill Garrett,
but just whether whether you're covering the team the Russo's
of the world, and you're trying to you're trying to
dig in. You want intel, you want the pulse. Now,
as a fan, I just want W's.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
I want the hoisting of cups exactly.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
And I'm playing fantasy hockey in my own mind about
what it would take to get a Quinn Hughes. And
I just remember even last summer, going back to the
Carell bit.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Is Billy's out of his mind, Like he's.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Just sitting there and he's joining Barrero, and I would
see the text messages and I see the social media post.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
What does Bill say? Bill, Bill's not saying anything. He's
just doing It's gonna be fine. What the hell do
you mean fine? There's nothing fine. What I mean by fine?
This is a complete disaster.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Bill has handled this the the wrong way. And then
oh yeah, when when he comes back in town, ladies
and gentlemen, I think they're going to meet for dinner
or something. I haven't seen Carill. I'm going to see Carrill.
He's on the team. I'm going to see him. He
loves it here, and we're going to get it done.
Just everybody relax. Yeah, well, we can't relax because we
(16:07):
need to see the finished result.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
And then he gets it done.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
And then with this, like you said, he just he
rolls in and I'm just picturing, you know, hypothetically or
in a different universe. There's just like eight or nine
NHL gms, and I got my first round picks here,
I got these players here, and Bill just shows up
ten minutes late to the meeting. I don't really care
what you guys have been talking about. Here's the offer.
(16:32):
Let me know when we need to get a plane
right for Quinn and boom it's done. It's just covering
the team and then just as a fan, just kind
of the unknown with his constant, just line level demeanor.
It's simultaneously it's frustrating, but how invigorating is it? Just
out of the blue in late November, early December, he's
closing deals on a guy like Quinn.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yeah, a couple of things here, I'll go back.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
I'll go back to the trade itself in the The
reason I brought this up with the gentleman I was
speaking to was that the relationship of Jim Rutherford and
Bill Garon, they worked together, He mentored and built Bill
Gharon into a GM, is what he did in Pittsburgh. Yeah,
(17:19):
because he Rutherford was the GM president of hockey ops
in Pittsburgh for years, and you know Billy played on
that team on his teams and then worked for him.
And so I think that relationship and knowing each other
and knowing how they both operated really made that deal secure.
(17:41):
There was, like you said, there was no BS in
the offer, right, and think about it, GMS get offers.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
All you're going to offer me this? Really?
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Do I really want to do a deal with you
when you're trying to fleece me, Well, here's the best
offer we have here.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
You know, yeah, this is it.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
And it was really four first drownd picks because every
guy that left the organization was a first dround pick.
And you know, so Rutherford new right there, Okay, he's
not playing with me, he's not throwing in a minor
league or you know whatever, a third rounder or a
fourth rounder.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
This is it.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
And that was the best deal that Vancouver could get. Now,
you want these deals to be fair on both sides.
I hope Vancouver and those four.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Guys, and they're off to great starts.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
You want them to do well. They're all young, yeah,
and you know you got to give them time. You
just don't come into this league and light it up
unless you are a McDavid McKinnon, that type of Crosby,
that type of player, right, mccarr hughes.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
You don't get that. And so.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
They're a team that is not going to win a
cuple this year. They're not going to make the playoffs. No,
Minnesota has a chance to do something. I'm not saying
they're gonna get to the Cup, but they're in the mix.
Now right, and just think going on to the other
topic you brought up of when you signed, when they
(19:19):
signed Caprice up, just think about it. This year could
have been a complete disaster.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Well, it kind of started that way. The co wins
and losses standpoints true early on.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
True. But but you don't sign him.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Yeah, you're gonna get a return for him. You don't
know if that return is gonna like Drancouver. Did you
know they're hoping that these four first rounders are going
to pan out, right, and typically first rounders, you know,
have a pretty good success rate. You don't know if
you were to trade capriceof if that's gonna pan out
(19:53):
for you.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
If he doesn't sign Caprice off, gotta trade him. Would
we have been having similar conversations here around this time
or within the last month about moving.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Capriz chance, because you couldn't have. There's no way you
could have.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
You could not have given up rossi Ogren and Bullyam
you know, because that that would have been Now now
you are in that Vancouver mode to a certain degree,
you really are.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Yeah, yeah, And that's what that's what I mean though,
I mean Quinn Hughes is never in the pace, so
that Domino doesn't fall.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
With Caprice in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
No, No, you're a you're a one hundred percent right I believe,
But I just mean flip that to where Vancouver is
effectively where you were going with that, that's happening here
is worth sweating. I wonder what the steam is on
capriz off where he's going to go. And we're in
some ways trying to look for an ogram Z. Yeah
we are. I mean that that is nuclear apocalypse. Boy
(20:50):
is it ever?
Speaker 1 (20:51):
And people are calling for everyone's head, and.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Now we're talking about at some point, what else can
we get exactly? You know, you know, listen to top
this off. If I don't know if it's possible, I
don't know if their cap I you know, that's a
Russo question, that's a you know. But now you're thinking,
(21:14):
you know, well Russo has brought up Sydney Crosby. If
now and I don't think that's I don't think that
is far fetched at all.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
I don't think it's impossible, but I don't think it happens.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
It would not happen until Pittsburgh is like, Okay, we
got to do something. We're not going to make the playoffs, right, yeah,
I think deadline closer to the deadline. You know, I'm
guessing here, totally guessing here. But and what do you
have to give up for a thirty eight year old
centerman you know, you know, and all that and and
(21:51):
so and can they do it? You know, can they
do it? I don't have the answers for it. But
let's let's take Crosby out of it. Okay, if they
can still get another I don't need to say elite level,
but a top six guy who can help them, I think,
because then that then that moves guys down to where
(22:11):
they might be slotted, you know, should be potentially slotted.
If they got say, if they got a centerment, let's
call it a centerment, well then you can move in
Europe is still you know, progressing like he.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Is, well, then you can move that.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Don't in your third line center not take away any
of his minutes, still play them on the power play
penalty kill draws eACT on the third line, you know,
as a shutdown. I mean, are you kidding me? Are
you kidding me? So it just would help, in my opinion,
(22:48):
if they if they were able to secure another forward.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
But we'll see. I mean we've gone from the wrecking ball, right,
how do they how do they how do they do
what they do with what seven guys out of the
out of lineup? Yeah, you know two of their top
two defensemen, you know, in Middleton and Brodein well, he
was in Favor have to be the Are they the
best pair in the in the NHL?
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Now, I'd like to find somebody to name me someone
who's better.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I honestly, I'll just admit my stupidity. I don't know
who plays with mccarr, but that would be. And here's
the deal with Favor. And you know Russell brought up,
oh great, he's been playing.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Brock cares more about how he's doing defensively than he
does offensively. So now he's got a guy like Hughes, right,
and he can say go ahead, I got you, I
got you. But Hughes doesn't get beat defensively anyway. He
doesn't get hit, which is unconscionable. Oh guy, you know
(23:50):
his size, right, I mean he doesn't get hit. He
does not get hit. And to have that ability because
we see guys that just gets slaughtered by forwards coming in.
He does not get hit and his ability to to
move or sense or it's just is is IQ is
(24:14):
something I haven't seen ever. And his awareness, Oh my gosh,
he's skating. I mean that's artwork right there. Yeah, I
mean you you just and you know, now I kind
of wants Sid. Now I kind of want Sid.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Can you imagine?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
I mean Billy Billy G goes and finds Mark Andre Fleury,
who was ready to basically just go retire in the desert.
I think now he lives in Minnesota. Him a relationship.
It is a relationship. Billy G has relationship. Yeah, and
he's he's working.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Him out for both and lbs and you're coming here
and here's what we want and here's what we expect
and here's our room and you know, and that's that's
the selling point for this organization.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Well I'm like it. Yeah. Now with that's loving it.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
I mean it's it's re energize this whole organization into into.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
The w Last night, just for a moment you you
kind of alluded to it is you're down Middleton, You're
down Brodeine Zucarello.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
We know the names, even Marcus Johansson just.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
At times speaking of a guy that Billy Bill Garron
has been very adamant about keeping on his team.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
And fifty Grand sadly he gets hurt, but I think
he had already totaled the same number of goals that
he had last season with the Wild, So the way
he's been playing has been elevated, and maybe that's you know,
he's a lot of second line work, I think, working
with Goldie and such. But still we need those, we
need that offensive production. But seeing all these guys elite,
(25:47):
elite passer, one of the best passing wingers in the league.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Yeah, elite, and we're missing him, and we're missing five
six other guys to run down the list, I mean.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Hinnestrosa ever.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Well, Damon Hunt has to leave the game early. I
think he played for less than four minutes. But but
to that end, like just the the lift that this
team has gotten. Maybe at one point it's this dynamic
duo and net you think about that you got a
lift from.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
I mean, Boldie's on on just a.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Perpetual heater and he's a carrill is doing his thing
and you are getting You're off into the mix, and
he's growing as much as he or as quickly as
he is. But just the lift of a hues, even
on a night where everybody's freaking hurt.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
And when you have five or six American leaguers in
your lineup, well, how do they win?
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Then?
Speaker 1 (26:35):
How do they win?
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Minnesota has Arisenko shows up, He's like, I would like
to come to the party too.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
We'll get to him.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Minnesota's ability the team to addhere to what the staff
wants done has been impeccable. It they they here's here's
the game plan, and don't stray from it.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Do it?
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Yeah, And and that is something that it's hard. It's
hard to get twenty guys on the same page every night. Yep,
every night.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
You know.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Yeah, sometimes you don't feel it, but you got to
find it right. And here's what my role is. Here's
what my job is. And and they and they do it.
They've done it to a t because what they've won
what twenty one of their last I don't know, the
twenty one of twenty.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Five, Yeah, something like that. It's some ridiculous number. They
had the weird Western Canada problem, but.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
They lost two in a row.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
But it's it's uh, they've lost three three games in
their last twenty five.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Is that right? Or twenty six or what's something in there.
Let's just say it's good times, USA.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
It's a good times, yes, right, and you know you
just got it at some night and some nights it's
you know, the goaltending, and some nights it's you know,
they're they're getting and there and their and their main
guys are are doing it, you know, and that's you know,
and you get your scoring, you get your defending, you
get your goaltending, and it's all coming together and it's
(28:13):
it's been it's been so much fun to watch out
of these guys. Because I went into last night' scheme,
I'm like, okay, I looked at the lineup and you
got a second line of of what it was, right,
the Krem line, and you know, typically and by by
the end of the year, Trenton is going to be
on your fourth line with Sturm and whoever guaranteed you know,
(28:36):
and and and that's.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Great, Yes, it's a good thing. And but but you
look at what and you know, you look at on
a night where.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Well CAPRICEO while he scored right, okay and and boldly
scored you know, your.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Top two guys, but you get three goals out of
out of your you know, out.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Of you know, two out of Tarasenko, get one out
of your off trending was a beast down low.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
I think my line was one of seven points last year.
You did.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
That's something well, you know, you hope they have a
good game, but they carried the team last night, they did,
you know, And and so you get that and you're like, hmm,
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Absolutely, let's pause on that because I do have you
hit on whether it's the goaltending. I do want to
talk a bit about the Russians in Tarasenko in particular,
but just the good things we're seeing and on a
night like last night, just if if one thing ain't there,
something's filling that gap, and it's really impressive to watch
for your Minnesota Wild. Pat mcletty at Pat Mick two
(29:42):
six two six. He's in studio with me Nordo. More
conversation on the hockey team and so well maybe we'll
get a little Popourri around the corner. We'll see h
But the nine to noon show continues on. Thanks for
listening to the fan. Another segment here with Pat mcletty
(30:16):
at pat mc two six two six. We will change
the conversation to the Howl, the Howl hosting the Memphis
Grizzlies this evening, seven o'clock.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Tim, But no, I'll wait and listen. Well we you
know that's all right, No, that's we'll make how old guy? Okay,
I want you honest, you are honest. Yeah, and whatever
it takes to.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Get him, Yeah, you kidd me, well, Tim connolly, I
mean certainly different leagues, different afraid. We got a couple
of we got a couple of guns hours here among
our gms in town.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
And and he he doesn't play, I mean he doesn't
let people know his cards. No, he does not, because
when it happens. No, no, you heard it here first.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah, I saw some report.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Now this isn't Yannis related, but who knows Subterfuge central
that the Wolves weren't interested in waiting until the deadline
to address the point guard situation. And I was joking earlier.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Like what about Bones?
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Oh, you're like, come on, I mean, Bones island, cool player,
cooler name, and you hope when he's asked to perform
he shows up.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
But he's not. He's he's not the guy. That's the guy.
And sadly, you know, whatever the growth.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
The growth arc for Dyllingham right now appears to be
too slow for what this team wants to do.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Remember when God, I can't we're talking basketball. Well, I'm glad.
It's how this works with you, Sean Moran, you know
not no, I know, but but here's my point. Okay,
whenever there's all this noise, noise, noise, forget the noise.
Right where was the noise on Hughes here? There wasn't
there was no noise. And what is Conley ever tip
(31:58):
his hand?
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Never does never? Does? It just happens? Right, Yes, sir,
so just I think there. I think they know. I
wish Maria would stay healthy. I don't think.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Now I'm probably gonna get in trouble with some Wolves fan,
but I don't think they're chust.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
And I said this about the Wild, oh you know,
a week before I'm Beyond the Pond, which airs every
Saturday tender Noon, thank you with the Great Kevin Faalness,
the great that I didn't think the Wild, with their
current roster that they had prior to Hughes trade, was
(32:37):
was was a team that could contend for the Cup.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
I said, they have to do something and that.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
And I look at the Wolves. We're a great team,
but I don't think what they have is enough to
get them over the top. I think they need another player.
They absolutely need another player. And the tough thing is
when you think about the.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
The NBA, especially with Oak City.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Yeah, and well no, but that's that's the the interesting
thing that I actually think, I know when this is
dumb to say, And Connolly could go out later today
and prove me wrong again. As you mentioned, there's there's
no smoke and then there's just fire. But I wonder
if that impacts his decision making because in hoops a
little bit different, a little less parody, and OKAC really
(33:32):
is that good. So the idea of how are we
leveraging massive assets to bring a player in when really,
at this stage even that isn't enough to topple what
OKAC has in their cupboard.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Right now, you have to look at your team and say,
where's our window?
Speaker 1 (33:53):
You know, where's their window? Is our window now or
is it two or three years to?
Speaker 4 (33:58):
And I think the Wolves window is short, shorter, shorter.
I don't think it's two, three, four, five down the years.
Oh now we're ready. I think they're ready now because
aunt is ridiculous, right that they got to get somebody
(34:21):
with him and then the other pieces that they have, right, right,
and if they do that, and then you can say, okay,
bring it on Oak City. Well let's let's let's take
this thing to seven games and and wait and see
what happens.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
You know, I mean, everybody's beatable. There's a way to
beat everybody there.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
I don't care there is oh wait, yeah they are,
no question. But do you do you just say oh
ol a, No, no, I don't. But I go out
and you punch him in the face. But because we
brought in.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Giannis, I do think, well bring in your honey.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
What well, you know, go Beart's got to be probably
out the door if if Giannis comes in the door.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
To get good players, you have to give good players.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I know, I know, I agree, And I'm not even
in that scenario copyright that I'm writing it down right,
I give you permission to use it because if I
wasn't going to credit you, because if.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
You don't do that, you know, because people getting enamored,
fans getting namored with their.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Players they love because they're used to them. Right, But
that's not how it works.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
If you want to win championships, you have to have
the you know what to make a deal. And if
you feel that your team is this player potentially away
from making a good run at it, you gotta do it.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
No, I'm I'm I'm one hundred percent with you. I
just specifically, for example, all right, well that's all that's bad.
I'm just getting that bad.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
That was bad because I'm a big Twins fent. Yeah,
I want the team to be good.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Of course, baseball is awesome. It is awesome that franchise.
Though they got some things to work on them. They're
working on it.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
You want to talk about opening windows though it feels
like Billy g did that.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
But in terms of in terms of how they navigate injuries,
what does this thing start to look like once you
get Zukerrello back, once you get some of these players
back into the mix. Here the laundry list, I didn't
even want to go down that road with hinds of
ten and I just kind of I limped in. I'm
just any chance we're going to maybe you know, maybe
not tomorrow against Columbus, but maybe in the next few days.
Are we going to see some guys getting healthy. I mean,
(36:41):
I thought exhausted.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
I don't know that is it is getting exhausting, though,
And your hope, you know, I mean, the great thing
is is that they're winning now, okay, and and so
you're you're hoping that you're getting rid of all the
all of these injuries before January February, and they'll have
that nice two week break to get guys healthy. Is
it two or three weeks whatever something like that the Olympics, right, yeah,
(37:06):
they're they're sending a boatload up guys.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
To play in the Olympics. On the line though not
the line itself.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
The Russians are going to be that's very They're going
to have a lot of extra time to skate and
find some find some chemistry.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
I think they'll be on a beach somewhere. Not good
for them, no kidd, and take me with.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
But so, you know, you hope right that they're getting
rid of all these injuries. Now.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
It is going to be a difficult, difficult lineup to
play against, especially the power play. And here's another thing
about Hughes that I want to mention before we get
off of him, is that what he does on the
back end makes it so much easier for our forwards.
You don't have to spend thirty seconds of your time
(37:55):
in your own zone trying to get the puck out
of the zone.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
He is a one man breakup. Let's just go.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
He's either three strides out the zone or one stride
pass up the mill you saw on the on the
breakaway last.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Night, right, you know, long stretch pass. Was it a goal?
I didn't even know if they scored theaway.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
It was the the pit I think the pitlick breakaway.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
I don't know whatever that was.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
He wasn't Russian, so they didn't score exactly, but regardless.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
But but but that's what he adds to your to
your offense and your defense because you're not spending time
in your zone. And so all those guys now are
in the offensive zone. They can get their four check going,
they can get their cycle going. You just if you
go pre Hues and to now and you watch how
(38:48):
there how much energy they have in the offensive zone
and their four check and their ability to cycle and
move the puck, it's been like wow, you know, And
so that has been you know, that's another huge, huge,
It's exactly what.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Macarr does with you know with the Alps. Yeah, it's
I think it's is it Devin Taves?
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Yeah? So which pair is better? Oh? All u Allen
Roach the box of all boxes ever? The Vox.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Yeah, he's doing talked about it. Yeah, he's got Taves
in the car. He's pel mccars is really really good.
You know, let's put them together. I hate you know,
like you can say, you know who's better macar or Hughes. Well,
you know, I mean, they're both phenomenal. I mean, I mean,
don't let's not forget when Hughes won the Norris he
(39:39):
had ninety two points. That's crazy, Okay, ninety two points.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
So put them one in one a. Put put you know,
Favor and Taves one in one A. They're both, they're
right there. Let's let's call them the same, you know,
instead of getting in this Oh they're better, they're better,
They're they're they're for elite, elite def inserment.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Maybe it's just a conversation that we'll have, and you
got to have it in this late April, and I'm going.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
I'm going to use in favor.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
I'll go using favor, all right, Why wouldn't we, mister Roach,
Alan roach is the absolute best.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
What a voice. You're pretty awesome yourself, sir. It's great
to see you. It's great to see you. Thanks for
hanging out, man. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Next time, I want to get into uh, Gophers having
their ebbs and flows this season.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Growing, they are growing, they are assuring as kids grow older.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
Right, you're it's a beautiful process.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Yes, it's fun to watch, very frustrating at times, but
it's and it's uh.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
So I expect them to be yeah there there they are.
So we'll have fun and uh in the second half
of the season. Absolutely, World Juniors in town. We got
the Olympics on the horizon. Get to anything today, that's fine.
I love talking basketball. We had fun though we did.
Can't put a price take on fun at Pat Mick
twos two six.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
That's Pat mcletty Saturdays at ten am Beyond the Pond
with mister Faulness and all the hockey analysis you could
ever dream of. That's mister mcletty's wheelhouse. When we return,
we're gonna switch to the Wolves. We're gonna continue a
little hoops conversation with Alan Horton, Voice of the Wolves.
The Wolves are at home hosting the Grizzlies tonight, we'll
get his insight. I think morning shoot around and such
(41:24):
just ended about ten to fifteen minutes ago, so we'll
see what the box has to say.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
As we kick off the final.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Hour, Sam Byrd produces I'm Nordo Vocal maintenance Day for
the host.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
It's notine a neon on the fan
