Speaker 2 (00:41):
Friddy Football Feast, can tax Paul Chargie with you, Brett
blakemore helping me out as well. Brett go through some
of the news today. What have you got for me?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
We got plenty of shoes from number why we'll start
local though. Your Minnesota Wild dominate the Blues despite what
looked like a shaky you know, maybe they fell asleep
in the second period, didn't matter whatsoever. Gus bus electric
top line, producing depth, scoring, producing pretty much a picture
perfect night forer Minnesota. While to open the season, they
(01:13):
opened their home slate tomorrow night against Columbus. That's a
grand Casino Arena.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
They hated Columbus Blue Jackets, the Wild of one to
five their last season six season openers. They are seven
to two and two in the last eleven against the Blues.
Gusterson was fantastic looks now through one game. It looks
like a great deal at thirty four million dollars over
five years. Mechanically very sound. Had make a couple of
(01:42):
key saves in the second period, and the Wild just
could not find a way to manufacture shots, and the
ice was just tilted against the Wild for most of
that period, and Gustison maintained the lead, expanded it to
three nothing, and Jordan Biddington just not himself some soft
goals that game. Caprice off three assists, so in early
(02:04):
pay your early returns on his deal as well. It
was a lopsided affair, five nothing Wild victory. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I've never been a Biddington believer. I've always thought he's overrated. Unfortunately,
he played really well against US and the Four Nations
face off. But it's he's just such a little whiner,
you know what I mean. He just bitches and moans
all the time they get him. It's just I can't
stand the guy. So anyways, I'm happy to see him
let up five goals against our wild squad number two,
(02:34):
the Wolves. I don't follow a copyright noon to three.
I don't follow preseason NBA basketball as closely as I
once did. I didn't realize how much they do play,
and it's more similar to hockey, where you'll get a
couple of games in there. But Anthony Edwards played like
twenty seven minutes last night. They lose in New York
at MSG to the Knicks one hundred to ninety five
(02:57):
after overtime. Ant had seven points in those twenty seven minutes,
But like Dante twenty four minutes, everyone's kind of getting
in the game by the next highest point score is
Randall at sixteen points. But the hope should still be high.
I mean, preseason doesn't matter whatsoever, But the hopes are
as high as any team in the market for the Wolves,
(03:19):
and they should. The expectations should be to get back
to where they were, if not further.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I believe the intention here is to get more minutes
for more players for the Wolves in the preseason is
always like for many teams, but also try to really
find younger players that you can get more minutes on
Jalen Clark Bearinger, let's get let's get more minutes for
these younger guys. I'm not really, frankly too worried about
(03:44):
getting Anthony Edwards going in the preseason. We got to
I also want to figure out which version of Dante
deven Senza we're going to get this year. Terrence Jannet,
I'd like to seek get more time as well, get
some young players in. This team's got to find a
viable second point guard and ideally first point guard. Honestly,
(04:06):
that would be that would be really, really helpful. And
that's one of the storylines that I'll be following through
the preseason, inasmuch like he was who followed preseason basketball,
which is not a toime.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah. Well, they were playing at the same time as
the Wild actual season opener, so that, yeah, exactly, and.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Would end up being a pretty thrilling football game.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Speaking of which, number three, how about that Thursday night
football game. I tuned in immediately following the Wild dominating
the Blues to find shock horror to Giants of beating
the Eagles a grant at home. But still Jackson Dart
thirty four to seventeen is your final weird picks from
(04:43):
Jalen Hurts just a weird games. Skataboo looked unbelievable, a
weird which I didn't think, you know, as a honorary
Arizona State just because I have family down there so
sometimes I watch Arizona State football. I didn't think you
would be much of anything in the NFL because those
big bruiser types typically don't translate over to when you
(05:04):
play against bigger and stronger guys. He isn't playing well,
So I love Scataboo. Good for him. Love Jackson Dart
unless they play one of our squads, Good for them.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Scataboo's fascinating is it's impossible to like football and not
love Cam Scataboo. He is everything you think of with
football is his teammates call him an idiot. He looks
for contact. On one of his three touchdowns last night,
He's running unabated to the end zone. He veers into
(05:37):
a defender at the goal line when he didn't have
to because he wants the contact. The feeling coming out
college was that Skataboo's bit of looking for contact mowing
down guys was very cute at the college level, but
would not translate to bigger, faster defenders so far, that's
(05:58):
totally wrong. His game is translating us fine. And you
know Tyron Tracy was available and healthy. You barely saw
the field. They've got a good thing going in Jackson
Dart and camp Skataboo, and I think Brian Dable is
very happy to turn the page and usher in a
new era of Giants football. On Jackson Dart, the do
just looks like a winner. There was one. There was one.
(06:18):
There was a moment in the game when Jackson Dart
got hurt for one for a player two. He goes
into the blue tent. Brian Dable follows him into the
into the medical tent. The game's happening right and Dable's
in the medical tent making sure his quarterbacks okay. Russell
Wilson comes into the game and the hometown fans in
New York are booing him. In the game, Jackson Dart
(06:40):
has got all of these X factors that look like
they're gonna it's It look like he's going to be
potentially a special player. He's got the running ability, the arm.
It's a lot of short stuff. So far, he's not
connecting and deep passes yet, but he threw a lot deep,
and he threw deep in college, and so that could
come together. But it looks like the Giants have found
(07:02):
a far better quarterback. And funny when your quarterbacking doesn't stink.
See also the Colts, Daniel Jones. It's amazing how good
your whole team ends up looking. And that's I think
where we are right now with the Giants. The Eagles
on the other hand, an embarrassing second loss in a
row for the Super Bowl champs, and now the Vikings,
(07:24):
who will face the Eels, and we may talk more
about this later in the show. We're looking at a
scenario where this team doesn't look quite as daunting.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Now.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
They're gonna get healthier. They're gonna get Jalen carterback, lind
And Dickerson back, Nikobe Dean back. By the time the
Vikings faced them, the Eels will be a motivated, healthy team.
But I don't know if that's going to be enough
for the Eagles to resume form from the team we
saw last year. Brett, you and I talked earlier in
the show. Right now, this offense for Philly is weird.
(07:56):
They are twenty ninth in yards twenty seventh in pace
of play, they're dead last in second half points per drive.
Saquon Barkley doesn't look at himself. They've had trouble getting
to the receivers. It's been it's been a mess in Philly.
And for a game that I think most Viking fans
probably circled as a loss looking into the season, now
(08:19):
looks like it might be a little bit closer to it.
Also for the Viking against the Eagles when they play
in ten days.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Well, and we'll see who's quarterbacking the Vikings going into
that game. Probably more on that later. I did want
to read one text. I we got this earlier on
in the show when we were talking about tush push,
because at one point during this game last night, there
were four tush pushes in a row to score a
touchdown for the Eagles. Here's a text we got from
A Scott. He says, get over it. The tush push
(08:46):
is a football play. As much as I hate the Eagles,
I think it is a thoroughly enjoyable football play to watch,
and I love it with team when teams try to
come up with stuff outside the box to beat it. Now,
the NFL and the other team's want a change of
system to screw that. Because everyone else is pouting, they
can't replicate it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
and if you think that is fun to watch, then
(09:08):
god speed, God bless you. In my eyes, it is
horrible to watch, and it's it's basically unstoppable, and especially
they don't call the off sides and call it extremely
tight like they said they were going to. There was
a point of emphasis and they didn't do that at all,
So I completely again, it's all subjective. Beauty is in
(09:30):
the eye beholder. We're happy for you. In my opinion,
it's ugly as hell to watch.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
It's it's not enjoyable football. It's fair, they're playing with
it the boundaries and the rules. For sure. They do
have to get better. Refs have to get better at
at calling false starts. That is a problem, and that's
that's something they got to work on. But the catch
here is this is a TV driven sport and it
is bad TV for most people. It has a outcome
(10:00):
that is a ninety outcome. It's we know what's gonna happen.
The Eagles are gonna gain one and a half yards
because they do every time and only one and a
half yards. There's no upside on the play. It's just
plain boring. And at the end of the day, I
believe the NFL will end up outlining the Toush push
in part because of four straight plays.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Like we saw kay squeeze one more thing in before
we break about this game. Cam'skataboo who we already mentioned.
Uh he gets he gets ran out of bounds, seeks
that contact, turns his head and says something to the
defensive player, and gets a flag for taunting. Why taunting is?
I mean where these are grown men we're talking about here,
(10:44):
fully grown adults, and we have to flag for taunting.
Why Like, if you're gonna tell me that the Toush
push is fun to watch, like you know what else
is fun to watch as a guy telling him what's up,
you know and saying hit me harder next time. How
is that We've seen taunting for justin Jefferson gritting and
looking at a player. We've seen just standing in the
(11:06):
general vicinity of a player. I don't like. What is
the benefit that the NFL is getting well for flagging
these taunting calls? It makes no sense. Get rid of it.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Look, it's it's a very fine line. I mean, having
a player get in the face and lowered his touchdown
over a defender is pretty gross. And you know, we've
you know, it's just they're parts of it that are
distasteful and I think are not sportsmanlike. But a lot
of times it's just, you know, a guy is a
(11:38):
guy says some insult somebody in passing. I don't know, man,
that's that's just football. That's football, and it's subjective, it's
gray area stuff. But man, the fact that if you
make any if you have any eye contact with the
player you just beat, and you celebrate in any way,
that that's automatically Now a fifteen yard penalty in a
(12:01):
free first down, I don't know, man, that is I
think that's pretty mess.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
I feel the same way. I feel the same way
about this as I do like a home run hitter
flipping the bat if you don't want him flipping the
bat and showing you up, keep the ball in the
park home run exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, I'm kind of with you on that. But we
are also trying to instill sportsmanship in young viewers who
are playing all kinds of sports in life, right and
lording over the defeated is not generally very glassy.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Thanks for good TV, though it does. That's all.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
When we come back, let's get into the quarterback debate
for the Vikings. Who will be the starting quarterback in
ten days? Is it Carson Wentz? Is a JJ McCarthy,
Who should it be? Let's talk it through when we
return to the Friday football piece.
