Speaker 1 (00:02):
Take me to charge.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Chock crawl through the fog to show me a gam
on the ways Connors, somebody tasty old June, My god,
help me get out of life. Take me to charge.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Last time I had a shock was.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Two thousand and nine. Jumped in the way he shot
of the line.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
There's the charge.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Up in you?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Oh my god, you would saving Pa and church Joe?
What's going on? Churchy?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Fuck?

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Hey, hey, how was your time with Cooley?

Speaker 5 (00:39):
Uh? It was very good. You all you have a
daughter about the same age as mine, Nicole's twenty two.
So the transition from college life in Boulder with you know,
built in friends and just energy and a lot of
things going on all the time and a lot of
study to first big girl job. Uh lives in down

(01:00):
by herself for now, and the whole transition making friends
and stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
It's just it's it's a little bit on the.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
Difficult side, but it was great spending some time with her.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
What is shere?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
What is she doing in with this new job.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
She's working in the behavioral sciences field. So she goes
into the homes of children with severe autism and or
aspergers who can't they can't go to school, and she
spends three or four hours putting them through paces and
studies and stuff like that. She's she's I think I've
told you this. She's angling to get into the FBI

(01:37):
and the the behavioral sciences side of it, like analyzing
the brains of criminals. So this is this is a
key step before she goes to graduate school. And I
appreciate I appreciate you asking about your niece calling.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
That's that's great to hear.

Speaker 6 (01:54):
And I love the idea that she's doing this kind
of work at the stage of her life to get
an appreciation for.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
For the kinds of difficulties that a lot of people have.
So that's fantastic.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
And she's got clarity on what she wants to do
to which a lot of kids her age to do not.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
That's fantastic. What what do you do with tonight?

Speaker 5 (02:11):
I have a like Aaron Rodgers, if somebody stuck for
a quarterback like in the Charch League, you know that
I think you were chopped a week one, which is
like five hundred to one that would happen. But that
individual league, like I used Trevor Lawrence, okay, which means
he always is passable, like you know there's somebody that

(02:31):
I can use better than Trevor Lawrence mostly, but I
still use Trevor.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
This week.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Aaron Rodgers is available on a lot of waiver wires,
and I think he's gonna throw three touchdowns or more tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Good chance of it? He's been good. I mean, it's
not the narrative people wanted, Paul.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
I think they wanted the narrative that at forty years
old and he was bad at the Jets, and that
this was all over. It's gonna the Steelers were never
going to work with the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Murmber All Presea.

Speaker 6 (03:00):
We didn't show up and didn't show up and didn't
show up. And you know, this isn't the narrative they wanted.
They've got a top ten quarterback in touchdown passes, completion percentage,
passer rating, and interceptions.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
He's only thrown three all year.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
And the amazing thing on Rogers, Paul, he's doing it
with one receiver, DK metcalf Right.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
You know we saw this, saw this other in Austin.
Percent of your.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Listeners can't even name the third receiver on this team.
I know you can, because you had to study the
depth chart. Most people can't name Roman Wilson.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
And no Calvin Austin by the way, he's been ruled
out of this game. But Rogers, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
Rogers loves his alpha receivers, Paul DeVante Adams in Green Bay,
then with the Jets, more DeVante Adams with the Jets,
and then this year he's just pounding the ball into
dk Metcalf and it's all working out great. It's an
easy matchup with Cincinnati, whose secondary is every bit as
bad as you'd expect. So, yeah, Rogers, a couple of touchdowns,

(03:59):
you think three, I think two is fair without Calvin Austen,
and yeah, it's uh, it's a real opportunity to pick
up somebody that can help that can help you out
more than somebody you're gonna find out the waiver wire
on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Moving back from Browning to Flacco, do you do you
that gives you more confidence based on what you saw
through one with Chase and maybe even Higgins just returning
to some semblance of their high end productivity now.

Speaker 6 (04:22):
Just a little honestly, Noro, you know, the problem was
less about Browning and the worst offensive line in football,
and there's there was nobody and maybe even Joe Flacco,
who is going to be great behind that line, and
I Flacco would he what did surprise me first game
with the Bengals. Forty five passes for Joe Flacco. I
mean it threw it right into the grinder. But it's

(04:42):
all dink and dunk short stuff. And this brings me
to the sneaky play of the day. Aaron Rodgers is
a sneaky play. If you are desperate for a tight
end and many people are on by. You've got Mark
Andrews on by, You've got Dalton kind on by. Here's
your opportunity to go get Cincinnati ty end Noah Fan
for tonight. There Mike Aseeki's their other tight end. He's

(05:05):
on ir Their other other tight end is Tanner Hudson.
He hasn't cleared the concussion protocol. He's not going to
go unless something miraculous happens in the final hours here.
So Noah Field's going to be on the on the
on the no Fan is going to be on the
field like every snap, And Joe Flacco loves his tight ends.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
With Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (05:22):
Under Flacco, the Browns had the second most tight end
targets last week In Flacco's debut, he threw to his
tight ends eleven times and the only guy there to
catch a pass is Noah Fan, So I like. I
like Noah Fan as a sneaky sneaker in.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Tonight's game, PA and charts.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
I had the opportunity over the weekend to watch almost
the entire Seattle Jacksonville game, Uh, which means, yeah, I'm
watching Travis Hunter, just trying trying to get a feel
for what they do with number twelve, and he's starting
to play more. I don't know if he played any
corner in that game, but he but when I watched
him offensively, I just can't figure out what they're doing

(06:02):
with Travis Hunter. Like there's no Percy Harvin. I just
I don't understand what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
What do you think.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Same, It's just the way they're deploying him is weird.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Hunter.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
You know, this was the number two pick in the draft,
and he was the most the most was the most
interest of anybody in the rookie draft class. He has
in the top sixty five four yards receiving. He hasn't
scored a touchdown. He's Fantasy receiver fifty seven. And when
you think about Travis Hunter at Colorado. You think of
those big on field catches even through traffic, Macan's Lappi's

(06:35):
missed breaking tackles.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
But the version of Travis Hunter we've got Jacksonville is
totally different. He is bottom.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
He is a bottom ten percent in the depth of target.
Hanging into this week, he has who catches deeper than
nine yards on the field. No, they're using Miami Brown
and Parker Washington almost as much as Travis Hunter and
Liam Poe in a couple of days.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
They're going to try to in the offense.

Speaker 6 (07:02):
You can only hope that a case he's got the
brands on Sunday, that is a middle of the back bacondary.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
But Hunter's usage is so befoddeling.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
It's just and the way they're using him with the
line of scrimmage so weird. He's only my wide receiver
few one going into this week.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Hey, George, let me hit you with a couple of players.
Whether it's Rashie Rice returning from suspension and he's coming
into a spot where it's like we're still trying to
get Travis Kelcey movin Xavi, you're worthy, et cetera. You
know the situation there, but then also George Kittle working
his way back. It sounds like he's returning to practice
with those two players. How are you handling them right

(07:38):
out of the gates? Is you're you're dreaming of big
production from both of those guys.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Of course, yeah, down to the field, goes up against
a sneaky Great Falcons defense, and that worries me a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
But the way that.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
They look at they're so committed to getting their tight
ends the ball. Look what Jake Tongus did in the
absence of at least a top five fantasy tight end.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
They used Tongus a lot, and now Kittle's going to
walk right into that.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
And assuming Kittle is healthy enough to be on the
field for most of the players, we go right back
to starting him. Rashee Rice is fascinating. So he gets
the six games off from suspension, which.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Is never good.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
But remember he lost all of last season too a
knee injury, and now only six weeks healthier from that.
So the expectation is that he is at one hundred
percent health now. And last year when we saw Racei
Rice it was three games he was the highest scoring
fantasy wide receiver through three games. They were using him
constantly and he was super effective. He goes up against

(08:40):
the Raiders this week, that's a great matchup. When nobody's
talking about with Rachee Rice, though, is what happens to
the rest of the Chiefs when Rashee Rice erases seven, eight,
ten targets from the other chief receivers.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
And in those three games.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Rashee Rice played last year, Travis kelce no touchdowns. He
had a thirty four yard game, a zero yard game,
and a thirty yard game. So if you've got Travis Kelcey,
this might be the chance to get out of Travis
Kelcey right now. If Rice is going to continue to
cannibalize a lot of his touches across the middle of the.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Field, Damn, that was nice. Charge Pa and charge, thank you.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
One player I wish I did have is Panthers running
back Rico Dowdell. My man's gone for nearly two hundred
yards on the ground in the two games in the
stead of Cuba Hubbard. Now Cuba is approaching close to
return returning. Nice pick up by the Panthers from the

(09:40):
Cowboys with Rico Dowdell. But what do you think happens there.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Yeah, four hundred and seventy three yards two weeks for
Rico Dowdle, which is amazing. That is more than Saquon
Barkley has all year. Wow, And a little trivia for
you guys, I'll ask both of you, do you want
to guess since they started keeping these these kinds of
stats in nineteen seventy, so the past fifty five years?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Hold on, you guess many guys names buzzer? Okay, go ahead,
all right, here we go.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
How many guys have hit the same or more.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Rushing and receiving yards in consecutive games as Rico Dwell
just did, rolling.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Up four hundred and seventy three between ground and air.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Paul two? Two? Yeah, Eric's gonna go one.

Speaker 6 (10:30):
The correct answer is two, Paul, you can you can
this if you can name either of the two players.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Oh jeez, Marcus Allen and Roger Craig.

Speaker 6 (10:40):
Those are great guesses because those are two pass catching backs. Nordo,
you want to take a stab.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
I'd say it's like a falk and Ladanian type of thing.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Oh nice, Yeah, those are good guesses as well.

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Walter Payton and sa Quon Barkley are only two players
consecutive consecutive games with as many rushing and receiving yards
as Rico Bautal. So here comes Chuba Hoovard, right, And
the worry from a fantasy standpoint is we're gonna get
the dreaded hot hand approach.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yes, and that is.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Possible because you know, you know Rica Toubah Hobbard, they
just signed him to an extension.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
At the end of last year. He was good.

Speaker 6 (11:17):
It wasn't great this year. It was nothing like Rico
Daudell this year. But you know, they have deference for starters.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I'm worried they're.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
Going to use both guys and then we're gonna have
to They're gonna go with whoever whoever is the hot hand,
and from a fantasy standpoint, that kind of sucks.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Is Bucky Irving ever gonna play again?

Speaker 6 (11:35):
I know, not this week. The presumption is the week
after this we might get Bucky Ravine good and we
always going to be a little while, but yeah, it's
gonna We've got at least another week to go on him.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Unfortunately.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Hey, transitioning Transitioning to this weekend's game Eagles and Vikings,
in particular, from a fantasy standpoint, What what jumps out
with the Birds and the Purple, Well.

Speaker 6 (11:59):
A lot this is this is a tricky matchup a
lot of ways.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
AJ Brown.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
You know, only one receiver's posted a good game against
the Viking secondaryes dk Metcalf. But if there's anybody that
can that is Metcalf's equal in like, size, speed and
all the things that Metcalf can go, it might be
AJ Brown. And the Vikings will have to decide They've
only got one big physical cornerback, but it's Jeff Okudah,
So do you put your worst coverage cornerback on AJ

(12:26):
Brown's You can try to match up physically against AJ Brown,
and then if you do that, it would let you
deploy Isaiah Rogers, who's obviously been awesome this year, on
Devonte Smith and just have him travel with DeVante Smith.
With the Vikings never do, by the way, almost never
do they have a shadowing cornerback.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
But maybe this is a spot where Brian Flores goes.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
You know what, We're not gonna let Devonte Smith beat
us AJ Brown's mercurial he's unhappy.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Maybe we can get past you know, we can use.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Jeff Okuda on him, and we interesting I'd be fascinating
if they let Isaiah Rodgers just travel with Devonte Smith
for a big chunk of this game.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
Charge how do how do you handle good fantasy guys
on bad teams? Like, well, Jerry Judy is not a
good fantasy guy, and I wouldn't have Jerry Judy on
my roster if you paid me. But like, the Browns
are a bad team. They're going against a terrible defense
that gives up chunk yardage. And like Harold fannin junior
when when when you know he scored on the Vikings

(13:24):
in London, But but you know, I kind of knew
about him before then Judkins quin Shawn Judkins is en
route to becoming potentially a high end back.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
But they're both Browns. So like, what do you.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
Do with guys like that in who are playing for
inconsistent teams?

Speaker 6 (13:46):
You pick your thoughts and against Miami is one of
those spots.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
This is a bad Miami defense.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
It's going to give some real opportunity to quinch On
Jones for sure, maybe Judy as well. Forget this fault
they're talking about fifty who sixty mile an hour wins
in Cleveland? For this game, Judkins might carry the ball
thirty times if this could be, and it's gonna be,
whatever passing there is could just be short stuffed the
fan and Djoko's hurt.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
By the way, we don't know if he's gonna play
in this game.

Speaker 6 (14:15):
So I think you picked out the two Browns that
you'd want, but especially Judkins. I have Juggins as running
back three on this coming for this coming week right now.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Love him in this match and in this weather.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Where do you have Barklay?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Good question.

Speaker 6 (14:32):
I've got Barkley sitting at running back eleven this week, Paul.
It's been a it has been a bad Here's some
give to give you some Barkley futility numbers. Yeah, among
starting running backs, so running backs with fifty more carries.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Here's a Barkley ranks.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Rushing yards twenty second yards per carry, thirtieth yards before contact,
twenty third yards after contact, thirtieth avoided tackle rate.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Three. First, this is Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 6 (15:02):
We're talking about last year's offensive player of the year
and he the struggle has been real and this will
be They desperately need a breakout game.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
They need him to go. Kenny gain Well, he is
going to get a ton of run against the Vikings.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
My brother, best of luck this weekend. Thanks for the time,
and we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Okay, that's a fun Love you guys, bye bye, Love
you too.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Paul Charchian from out Utah Way with our weekly take
you to charge by the way. Every time I think
of Paul Charchian, I think of the Friday football Feast,
which is tomorrow. Buffalo Wild Wings, Monticello, Nordo, Alec Lewis
and yours truly can't wait to get to Monty to
analyze handicap breakdown and celebrate this Minnesota Vikings game this weekend.

(15:49):
That's tomorrow, Buffalo Wild Wings, Monticello. Right now, the cash thing,
the fan.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Along with two men in a juck truck want to
get junk truck want to give you a chance to
win some bonus bucks with the National Cash Contest. Sour's
keyword is cash. You go win some cash with the
keyword cash. You just enter that in at KFA dot com.
You enjoined the Gophers season. It's been a weird first half.

Speaker 7 (16:09):
I feel like every season, every beat writer on every
team says it goes a little bit differently than what
they were expecting coming in, and you got to adjust
expectations from.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
There four and two.

Speaker 7 (16:19):
But the way they got to four and two is
certainly a little bit serendipitous, including last week where you
get outgained by two hundred, you get out rushed by
two hundred. But the Lord bless and keep the take
give because the turnover margin is one of the most
important things in football.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
Amen, Ryan Burns with a go for Illustrated and you're
going to learn more about subscribing to that for Gophers football,
Gophers basketball, and much more. Is also part of the
Pair and the Spare podcast with Justin Guard and Chips
Coggins at Ryan Burns m N. Via Twitter, Please follow
him at Ryan Burns MN. In fact, the pin story

(16:54):
atop the Twitter feed that Ryan pinned an hour ago
previews tomorrow game at Huntington Banks Stadium against the twenty
fifth ranked Nebraska corn Huskers. Five things that you need
to know Nebraska players to watch, Keys to a Minnesota victory,
and so on. And the Holy Angels kid the running

(17:15):
back is it Emma Johnson?

Speaker 1 (17:17):
That is right? Yeah, how's Emma doing down there?

Speaker 7 (17:19):
He's doing really really well in his fourth year. He's
second in the Big Ten and rushing, he's second in
miss tackles for us. He's coming off one of his
best games of his career, and I know that he's
talked about this one. Coming back to Dinky Town and
playing against the team that did not offer him is
one of the games that i'd say has been circled
on his schedule for a while.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
So we're going to.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
See if he either has the best game of his
life or if he's a little bit sped up tomorrow night.
Do you think, I mean, he's going to be happy
to be back. What'll be interesting, though, is on the
other side of it, Pj's just begging for rushing yards
at this point. Do you think he'll just try to
offer him maybe three game to see if he can
come over.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
What's up with this man?

Speaker 4 (17:57):
I mean, I know what you know, the focus on
Drake and some of the good things in the growth
process with that, But even now with Darius back, we're
watching kind of what's becoming a trend. Their inability to
move it on the ground.

Speaker 7 (18:07):
Yeah, they are the worst run offense in the Big
Ten against conference opponents there, averaging forty four yards a
game on the ground.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
So antithetical to what PJ. Fleck preaches. It is, and
I think it's a culmination of things.

Speaker 7 (18:19):
I think it's you lost four starters from last year's
offensive line, and you've got some new guys coming in,
some transfers that aren't working out as well as you
were hoping they were going to. And you think about
last week's game against Purdue. Darius Taylor had thirty two
rushing yards. He had thirty eight after contact, which tells
you everything he earned, including more. It's just there's so

(18:40):
many missed assignments. And I think there's also a lack
of physicality upfront from the Minnesota movie company, the collegiate
version of it. That being, And now you get to
face the Nebraska team that is okay, if not mediocre
against the run, and it's going to be something tomorrow night.
They need a running game because their defense also just
played eighty eight plays this last week. Wow, And now

(19:01):
you're in a short week at home, but they have
to figure out ways to get Darius Taylor some more holes.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
But I think it starts up front.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
You know, you mentioned how things can change midway through
a season as you look back, and certainly you know
seeing what you're seeing out of the run game probably
different than how you would have drawn up, drew it
up or dreamed it up just a bit. But in
terms of Drake Lindsey midway through, how are you kind
of summing up his progression? He's been better than I
thought he was going to be, and I thought I
was going to be one of the higher people in

(19:29):
this market on him. But you look at where the
stats are right now, halfway through his freshman season. Halfway through,
he's got six starts under his belt, and he's got
a three to one touchdown to interception ratio, and he's
completing sixty percent of his passes.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Honestly, it should probably be higher if.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
His receivers could win some fifty to fifty balls. And
there's been some drops in other areas, but Drake has
been the straw that stirs the drink of this Gopher offense.
And as you project forward here to Friday night to
the rest of the season, if this Gopher offense is
going to be able to move the football, I think
it's going to be because of Drake Lindsay here.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
Well, and conversely, Dominic Ryol or excuse me, what's Ryol's
first Dylan and his dad's Dominic the former center for
the for the Lions, scrappy player to Dominic Ryola. So
for his son, it's I haven't watched a lot of him,
but he was like one of the first players when
I saw him within the last couple of years, Caleb

(20:22):
Williams two when he was at USC and last year
with the Bears. Where this is a generation of players
who are coming up who want to play like Patrick Mahomes, right,
they just they watched him in the formative years and
they want to drop the ball, they want to throw
side arm. They just he just reminded me of that
when I saw him. How does he play and what

(20:44):
do you think of his overall game?

Speaker 7 (20:45):
Well, he also looks like he looks like I think
the kids would say TMU version of Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
There a little little knockoff with the same haircuts and glasses.
It's everything. No, oh, it's a lifestyle.

Speaker 7 (20:57):
They look very, very similar in terms of play. Now,
the stats for Riola looked really good this year. He's
completing north to seventy percent of his passes, sixteen touchdowns,
five interceptions. The thing I would tell you is they
love to get the ball out quickly, and they love
to get the ball out into space. Their pass catchers
for Nebraska have more yards after the catch than Iowa

(21:17):
has receiving yards.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Period like they have. That's really good. They have over
a thousand.

Speaker 7 (21:22):
Yards after the catch and they've got some really talented
skilled position players on the outside. But the key for
Minnesota tomorrow night against Riola is get pressure on them
because there is not a single big ten quarterback that
gets sacked on more pressures than Dylan Riola.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
So they got to get pressure on him tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
The bowhunter Ryan Burns bow Hunting Bernsey Gophers and Nebraska
kfan tomorrow night. It's in Minneapolis, Norda.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yeah, this team and their starts.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
So whether it was the Rutgers game, I think they're
down two scores, maybe block to kick and so the
first half was wonkey same in the Perdue game. I
think it was seventeen thirteen and a half, no no
points in the first quarter. Ohio Stadium. We want to
throw that in there. I guess it was kind of
over before the first kickoff, But what about that first
ten minutes, Nardo? How about that drive field goal? You know,

(22:12):
how about the late field goal attempt at how about that?

Speaker 5 (22:16):
My only experience with that game, because it was like
one thirty in the morning, London time. We're in Dublin
or London. One of the two is. I'm sitting on
the bus getting ready to go to the stadium for
the Vikings game, and on walks Max Brosmur and so
I didn't know, I didn't know who won. I kind
of figured Ohio State was gonna win. But I looked

(22:37):
at Brosmer and I'm like, how the game going. He
looks at me and goes, really, I don't want to
talk about it, and I'm like, hey, okay.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Then I quickly got on the phone, looked at the
score hicle. Max got you. I understand anyway.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
But starts to these games and maybe it's their inability
to run the ball, et cetera. But how does PJ
kind of have to change his face midway through where
you get the two victories and you're kind of praising
the late perseverance, right, you get that nice touchdown drive
in the fourth aided by a couple of penalties Perish
picked six and you're off against Purdue. You grind one

(23:10):
out the score fest against Rutgers. But as you talk
about Dylan Reyola and how this Huskers team operates Friday
night light style, we can't be sitting here down two scores.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
It feels like at the break.

Speaker 7 (23:22):
Yeah, it can't be a here we go again type
of event, because you mentioned the Purdue game, and you
mentioned the Rutgers game, and the Rutgers game, they're down
fourteen points and they end up coming back to win.
That's the biggest home victory in terms of deficit that
they've come back from since nineteen ninety two. And then
last week they have a double digit point deficit that
they come back from at home. But that's not where
you want to be and we can't be setting records

(23:43):
here from comeback.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
It's not a long term plan of success.

Speaker 7 (23:46):
No, And so if they're going to be three and
one in the Big Ten and not two and two,
I think offensively, it comes back to the run game.
They just cannot find ways even with opening scripts. And
I think you guys know what like I do with
the opening script, every offensive coordinator, every defense of coordinator
has it, and it's trying to become more efficient, specifically
for Greg Harbo's offense in the run game, how do

(24:07):
they find ways that you've watched all this tape, how
do you try to mitigate the weaknesses of what you
perceive the opposing defense to be. They haven't been able
to execute that as well. And then defensively, I mean,
that's kind of the thing that's being brushed underneath the
bus a little bit here is the defense is not
being very good and they've got some very key, timely
turnovers last week. That that's why part of why Minnesota

(24:29):
won that football game when they give up four hundred
and fifty six total yards, but when the takeaways don't come.
I mean, you've got to be able to tackle well
on Friday night, because, like I said, this is a
Nebraska offense that loves to get the ball in the space.
They've got electric playmakers. In Minnesota in their last four
games has fifty eight mistackles and so that's got to
be cleaned up, and it's got to be in the

(24:49):
single digits.

Speaker 4 (24:50):
So the collegiate version of the Minnesota moving company you
mentioned early from a physicality standpoint, maybe not what you need.
Well not maybe it definitely isn't what you need in
the run game, But protecting Drake lindsay, there's some edge
cat William somebody. Is it NOWERI or one airy, but
one way.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Or the other.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
We'll figure out the pronunciation later. What are we up
against tomorrow night in terms of keeping Drake upright and
able to produce?

Speaker 7 (25:17):
Yeah, he's number ninety six for Nebraska and you're gonna
get a long look at him because he leads all
big ten edge rushers and pressures. I mean, he has
been fantastic, specifically the last two weeks against it. I
think they played Michigan State in Maryland and he's got
fourteen pressures in the last two games. He's a former
five star that Nebraska was able to get out of
the portal from Missouri.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
He's still a young kid.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
I think he's only in his second year here in
college football.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
But he is explosive. He is long.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
Their two best edge rushers are him and then at
number fifteen on the other side. The lucky thing for
the Minnesota Moving Company is their two best players are
Greg Johnson and Nathan Roy and two former four stars
right there, one from prior Lake One used to be
the number one player in the state of Wisconsin. They've
handled things well at tackle it's the interior rush that
has been a bigger issue. But trying to shut down

(26:05):
ninety six you mentioned it. He has been a man
possessed here in the month of October and they got
to figure that out.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
When it comes to when it comes to subscribing to
go for Illustrated, yeah, I mean, I you know, I
should do this more frequently. I mean I'm going up
and down the page now and like looking at videos
without audio, looking at the work you're doing with the
recruits who come in and watch the games at Huntington
Banks Stadium.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
This is fantastic.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
I mean, for those who you know genuinely care about
Gophers football, is the best way to the best place
to send them?

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (26:40):
Two four seven sports dot com slash college slash Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Is that the best place?

Speaker 7 (26:44):
Or you can just put in say Gopher Illustrated into
the Google machine.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
It'll pop up. Okay.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
The beautiful part two is once you get for singular
by the way, for Gopher Illustrated dot com. The beautiful
part two is once you get to say past your
first month and it goes from a dollar to say ten.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Dollars, you get pair of mount plus for free.

Speaker 7 (27:01):
Really yeah, So whether you're a Landman fin or I know,
UFC is going to be exclusively on Paramount going forward
in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
It's a great way to support US Gopher Illustrated dot com. Correct,
Gopher Illustrated dot Com with the bowhunter. Okay, now with
this five and one Nebraska squad Matt Rule.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
This is his third year.

Speaker 7 (27:23):
It is, and I'm staring at him on your TV
here on McAfee Live.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Right. He does a good job on McAfee.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
Now, this is generally you know, when when when so
Frost is out, rule is in. You know, so you
got a lot of the Frost players, but we also
have the portal. So now he'll get his first full
year with the portal. Year two and then year three,
Years three and four are is when things are supposed
to take off for coaches with big names and programs

(27:51):
that haven't been great of late. But it's still I mean,
so og it's Nebraska's Tommy Franger, Frasier, I mean, it's
it's Lincoln, It's it's og Man. Are they getting there?

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Are they?

Speaker 5 (28:01):
It's five and one. I noticed the defense gives up
about thirty a game to big ten teams do you
sence Nebraska, twenty fifth in the country, is getting over
a hump to prominence.

Speaker 7 (28:13):
Well, that's the most fascinating part about Nebraska is the
Nebraska teams you remember are different than the ones I've
seen for the last fifteen years as I've been doing this. Nebraska,
like Randy Gregory, Yeah, Nebraska has more money than they
know what to do with. And maybe yeah, they're one
of the biggest funded programs in the Big ten.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Damn without question, I meant that Omaha insurance cash.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
Sure, I'm not entirely sure where it all comes from,
but if you ever go down to Lincoln and you
walk around the campus.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
That's unbelievable. Their athletic facilities. They have more money than
they know what to do with.

Speaker 7 (28:43):
And so for them to be as bad as they
have been for so long, I mean, they finally last
year they snapped the I think they were the last
FBS team to go to a bowl game. That had
been like six seven, eight years since they had been
to a bowl game. They finally got to one last year.
And now with Matt Ruhle, the thing with him wherever
he had been was the year three bump, and now

(29:03):
he's five and one, he's got the quarterback and his
second year is starting. They've gotten a lot of good
players out of the portal and everything seems to be clicking.
The question isn't even necessarily Matt Rule to me, it's
where is Matt Rule going to be coaching in two months?
Because with James Franklin now out at Penn State, Matt
Rule played at Penn State, grew up right around there.
The new Penn State athletic director is the same guy

(29:25):
he worked with at Temple for so so many years,
and they know each other incredibly well. And if there's
one program in the Big Ten that may slightly have
more resources than what Nebraska has, it is Penn State.
So while Matt Rule is not going to talk about
it until the end of the season, I know he
was asked about it here this past week and he
didn't deny it, but he said he loves it at Nebraska,
and I'm sure he does. The question is for me

(29:47):
is going to be if Nebraska can sustain the success
and become say a team that finishes somewhere in the
fifteen to twenty five range, and you look at the
rest of their schedule, it's certainly feasible. What does Matt
Rule decide to do at the end of the season
is going to be one of the things, because this
is setting up to be coaching carousel wise in college football,
like a one to ten years type of event. There's

(30:07):
a ton of jobs already open. We haven't even talked
about what the decision is for Luke Fickle and Wisconsin
and what they do with the apathy around that program.
They get to catch your Ohio State Buckeys this weekend.
I mean, it's it's going to be a fascinating month
of December. I'll say that this is kind of tough.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Well, Kurt Signetti in Indiana at Indiana is also a
Pennsylvania native I believe as well. So but to that
end with Signetti, it's kind of a weird question and
stuff to kind of quantify it.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
But you've been covering this team a long time.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
You know, what what are the expectations for PJ What
are the expectations for this program?

Speaker 1 (30:42):
Did do you think there's heat?

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Maybe not internally even but when you see Signetti turn around,
who's your program? The way he did in such a
short period of time. You're mentioning Rule year three, five
and one and trajectory is pointing upwards. How does that
change kind of the perception of what's happening here in Minnesota?
Where you know you feel good about you know, when
your home games beat Nebraska, when your home games, you're

(31:06):
gonna be a seven win team. Can you steal one
in Iowa City, can you handle Northwestern?

Speaker 1 (31:10):
Et cetera.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
You know you're grinding your way to that eight to
nine win team, win season. But does Signetti doing his thing,
does a matt rule on the rise? Does that impact
how you perceive the state of affairs here in Minnesota.

Speaker 7 (31:23):
Yeah, the Signetti and Indiana thing is such a fascinating
thing to look at because they have so much success
in year one, taking players from James Madison, taking some
other players from across the Big Ten. And I think that,
without question, Kurt Signetti is one of the coaches in
college football who can get the most out of his players.
And also I think they embody his personality, which from

(31:45):
his opening press conference at Indiana and a lot of
people didn't know who Kurt Signetti was, he goes, if
I win, just google me. To have that type of
confidence to walk into a place and say that and
then back it up here for the first nineteen games
or whatever or it has been in his career is
something now. I would also stress to people who are
thinking themselves non traditional power footballs in Minnesota and Indiana

(32:09):
in that respect they match that. I would encourage them
to go look at Indiana's athletic donations where Indiana basketball
the last few years has been number one in NIL.
I mean they had Mike Woodson coach in the bleeping team.
I mean they have more money for the basketball program
than they know what to do with, and their lack
of success there is an issue. I don't know how

(32:31):
it doesn't then translate over to I think Indiana's got
a lot more money for football than maybe some other
teams do, say hypothetically like Minnesota, but things can both
be true. That Minnesota has kind of plateaueded that seven
to eight win mark, which I think for this market
to thow almost be bored of it to an extent,
just tells me how much the floor has gone up.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
Now.

Speaker 7 (32:52):
I want to cover a twenty nineteen type of season
like anybody else. Eleven wins, huge win at home over
Penn State, huge win in the Outback Bowl over at
the time, but this year from Minnesota was never going
to be a ceiling type of season for me. They
were just breaking in too many players. I think what
I've learned in hindsight now is that last year's team

(33:12):
underachieved by a couple of years. When you think about
six players from that Gopher roster last year made fifty
three man rosters, including Max Brosmer, they only won seven games.
If Minnesota can find a way to win a seven
regular season games this year with the amount of turnover
that they've had, because at a place like Minnesota, you
do have to rebuild and not just reloaded a lot
of other places, if that's the same regular season win

(33:34):
total with that roster compared to this one, I think
last year over or underachieved compared to this year, maybe overachieving.

Speaker 5 (33:41):
Beautifully laid out Gophers and Huskers. Who wins and why?
I learn that from the bow Hunter when we returned
to KFAM fanck Alec Nordo and Yours truly Buffalo Wild
Wings Mont Solo tomorrow for the Friday Football Face. Meanwhile,
we're feasting hopefully on the Nebraska Cornhuskers tomorrow night on KFAM.

(34:05):
What's the what's the points bread in the game. I
think it's somewhere on Nebraska eight and a half. Nebraska
eight and a half. You say eight and a half
road point favorite. I mean eight and a half point
road favorite giving up thirty a game to Big ten teams.

Speaker 7 (34:17):
Okay, that's flex six and one against in his career
inclending on a five game winning streak.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Who wins and why?

Speaker 7 (34:25):
See, that's one of the things I'm struggling with here.
It's eight and a half. You've got Fleck on a
five game winning strick. He's getting won three in a row.
In terms of one possession games against them, Nebraska has
not won. And I double checked this stat because rule
was asked about it earlier. Nebraska has not won back
to back road games since two thousand and six, in

(34:45):
nineteen years.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Pa. Now, I'm gonna go.

Speaker 7 (34:48):
With the Huskers because I need to see physicality from
the Gopher offensive line the Gopher defensive line. If they
bring that to tomorrow night's game, they all have a
great shot to extend it to six in a row.
But if they don't, Nebraska got the skill to beach
in space. Appreciate you, bow hunter. Let's do it more frequently.
Appreciate you Ryan Burns at Ryan Burns mnem MN talk
to you tomorrow at the Friday Football Feast with Nordo,

(35:09):
who puts a rap on the show.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Early opinions from our guy Baldy NFL film breakdowns, version
of a Valdi mission this Sunday, and not so many words,
please go find a way to just beat them birds.
Weeks of proud in a little trying to meddle and
the QB conversation for the moment is settled. It was
Carsoner the kid and it looks to be the vet.
Hopefully the O line closer to being set. Our guy

(35:46):
softies and tears yesterday and we may have jinxed them
smashed by the Jays baseball in October. It's tough to refute.
It's so awesome despite our team being destitute now from
churches dime sized areolas to go minata against Rayola Friday
Feast in the morning out in Montaicello, one of the
best beat up locations.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
