Speaker 1 (00:00):
Love that. So let me get this straight.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I think, and I'm going to say a demonstrative here's
the reality. Okay, yeah, yeah, and take me deep because
you know everybody on the airstaff. Sure, okay, non drinker
guy here. Yeah, I'm a coffee snob, you are. It's
Turkish coffee that I'll order from places around the world.
It's French rows with a double espresso charge. I mean,
(00:24):
I'm a coffee snob. So let me get this straight.
I'm gone for a week and a half and this
whole Caribou thing pops. Yeah, and I'm not around to
take part in it. No, I wish you would have
drawn lots for the endorsement or something.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
You would you would have appreciated because I was talking.
I was harkening back and Cariboo coffee is the bomb.
It is the bomb. And I was harkening back to
when we had the pots that you could make yourself
and the coffee was into those large black urns, and
so you could make the diesel if you wanted to.
You can make a lighter vibe if you needed that.
(00:58):
But yeah, you could make your and it was the delicious.
Well then years ago, I want to know who was
in the room and made the decision with what our
current situation is. It's it's disastrous, angry, and so Caribou
did indeed come to the rescue. I apologize you weren't here,
but you heard it from me. No, I don't apologize.
It's it's my lot in life that I missed it.
(01:18):
But tuesdays when we're at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Remember something you said a month a month and a
half ago.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
It's it's now granted, this is you know these it's
the machine.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
So it's you know, we don't have a barista at
tco PC.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Not yet make making it, making it freshly, you know,
but it still is fresh. But it's all Caribou, it is.
And it's so much better than this dredge here.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
No and so thank you to Caribou for coming to
the rescue and helping us out at the fan sweet
first world problems, by the way, but all the same,
Caribou rocks.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Cariboo BX. It's that Pa on the mic, at Pa
on the M I c if you're interested. I just
got I just came home and I got a Caribou
cup in my hand right now, Hell yeah, Nordo, and
I would appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
What a pea box?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
What?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yeah, I'm not only a black coffee guy yet, like
the pure black, but.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Most kids are, most kids are of the h You're
still optimistic.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, and Nordo, you know, Norda's not a kid, but
middling generation old people here, middle people there, two Thurston there.
So the cold coffee bit like if I if I
get a chai t latte, which I'll rarely get, but
if I do get it, it's always going to be hot.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
If I get a cappuccino or a moca or a
latte or something, it's going to be hot. I like
hot black coffee. New generation is all up in the
mix of the cold drinks.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Oh yeah, all up in the ice. I'm ninety five
percent of the time going with it. What's a cold press?
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:46):
I think it's just like espresso, right, yeah, I think so.
I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I don't really drink those. I just do the cold
brew from the Trader Joe is like the little the
little thing of it. Or go to Caribou and they
have like the shaken oat milk espresso on ice or whatever.
So probably a lot too much sugar in those.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
But that's all right.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I mean I've been straight black homie since high school.
I just yeah, and I love the cold press. Cold
coffee is delicious. Is it an espresso bit? Well see
that's the thing though, is I also have no idea.
I just know that it has caffeine and cold and
it charges me up.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well Nordo would know this from his days in the
booth with yours Early and Poopy Dave and the analyst
Pete Persich. But a Father's Day gift my kids got me.
I'm gonna say it's fifteen eighteen years ago. Is a
sixty four ounce black thermos?
Speaker 1 (03:39):
All right?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
And COLEI you know, like little girls will do, put
stickers all over it's cold, Viking's Norsemen head, the whole thing.
Well that's with me every single game home and road.
So now at Hanbury Manor where the team stayed, they
had this special special double espresso, so four went into that.
(04:01):
So four shots of espresso and then the in hotel
coffee which was on the strong side. So I have
coffee fueling me for every single game. Makes your hair
stand up? That is some I mean you you drink.
I mean that is a charge due to say that
he has a tolerance level with a lot of things
(04:22):
like I do. Yeah, it takes a little while to
chisel through a few layers for it to hit.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Yeah, that's one thing I'm nervous.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
About was getting like stuck out it and on like
three coffees every single morning to get up.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
You give me awake.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, the the layers are minimized when it's Caribou coffee. Indeed,
I mean it hits right out of the gate because
it's smooth and it's so good. The boo pa on
the mic if anybody's interested, all right, three two, So
let's see what do we got here? Dride by and
you're okay, what exactly did I miss with this Buckeyes team?
(04:55):
I mean tops in the land? I know, but I
guess they have two first rounds receivers and some really
good ones on the offensive line, And I mean this
Buckeye's team was it just was it just really really good?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
You could just tell from the outset. Yeah, you know,
I was pretty optimistic going in. You know, you look
at a twenty one point spread and you're like, Okay,
maybe there's a way we can cover that or whatever
it was. And then you know, you start the game
off one, the one, the toss you elected to receive
the field you know, you kind of like pump your
chest a little bit, like we're taking the ball, We're
going to go down. You know, you're up twenty four
with the number. Yeah, we looked good, you know in
(05:28):
the games. Yeah, it was up three zero, And then
it just became how good Ohio State truly is. You know,
I think they are averaging five point five defensive points
per game, so like they're not allowing anybody to score on.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Them really at all.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
And then you know, you get the field goal to start,
you're feeling good, and then they come out and show
you how good.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Their offense was.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Like Jeremiah Smith is obviously that their dog on the outside.
Anytime he was in man demn single coverage, it was
just a head tap, throw the ball over the top
and let him go be an athlete. So I just
think there was just too much. You look at how
much I own money they're spending and the whole deal,
returning eight guys on their defense, adding one of the
best defensive minds in football, Like you add all those
(06:07):
things together and that's how you get to forty two
to three.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Okay, Well, man, I got a lot down here for you,
and we're short on time. So with that last question
I had for PJ. Fleck, you know he's not going
to say it, but but take me deep here if
you disagree. In this era of the transfer portal and
nil constructed the current way it is, teams like Minnesota
never And I'm not an never or best ever, worst
(06:33):
ever kind of guy, yeah, but teams at that you know,
market level never will be able to compete with the
blue ball I like the Buckeyes and and if true,
that's super sad because in college football and basketball, the
teams with even a puncher's chance are the ones that
are getting knocked out. Now, Judkins and Henderson, all right,
(06:54):
they're in the league. Judkins is absolutely fantastic Bucks wide
receiver a Mecca Buka. He might be the offensive rookie
of the year outside of the tight end from Indianapolis.
The Ohio State twos would be ninety percent of the
FBS teams in the land. Is that too much of
(07:15):
a loser's lament? Facing the reality there are a handful
of teams that matter and that's going to be the
case moving forward with the portal.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
It's just what it is now, PA. That's that is
how college athletics is working. It's just how it is
going forward. Do you have I think they're at Ohio
States nil. I think they're Athletic Director Director ross Byorke
kind of confirmed it at twenty million dollars for the
football team, but that's said to be almost probably north
of thirty million dollars. So you talk about a program
(07:45):
that can basically go out and pay for any single
guy they want.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
PJ.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Fleck mentioned to us an offensive tackle that was from Cincinnati,
Ohio recruited by the U. They got him to commit
here and he comes for a year Philip Daniels, and
then next year he you know, has a good year
and boom right back right back to Ohio playing for
the Buckeyes. So you talk about a program that can
really go out and spend as much money as they need.
You look at their their wide receiver one and Jeremiah
(08:10):
Smith with an on three nil evaluation of four point
two million. They're starting safety Caleb Downs with the valuation
of two point four million dollars. These are guys that
are making more than some of these NFL players out here.
So when you talk about an eighteen to twenty two
year old kid seeing this kind of money, it's almost
it's a no brainer. It becomes tough to remain loyal
to the guys that recruited you and to the university
(08:33):
in the front of your chest when you're talking about
that many comments.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
So, if anything, it just feels like that money that
was allotted, like from a conference by conference standpoint, that
the Gophers have effectively a salary cap.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's like twenty and a half million.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Or something like that, all the major bits for our
entire athletic department. I'm assuming, you know, let's say seventy
eighty percent of that goes to the football team. But
in the end, what maybe what that does is that
that that gives you an advantage over the MAC.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
But in the end, I mean, that's that's a helmet school.
That's a freaking institution. So that part hasn't changed. The
boosters on the additional revenue.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Oregon hasn't been a helmet school, you know what I mean.
I mean, there are teams that are popping up.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
I think Oregon I think Oregon is a new school,
helmet school, I think in some ways just in the
what they've done out there. I mean, it could be
as simple as we got the coolest uniforms in the land.
Like they kind of became a marketing operation. It feels
like they the Nike, the connection to Nike and such
like that, which and by the way, Phil Knight's pockets
(09:34):
ain't shallow.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
So if they need to go get a player.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
In today's age, I mean, they have those sorts of connections.
And then we yes in the current in the current
frame of what it is, totally agree we can't compete.
So then the idea is you got to reframe what
you want your program to be and how big can
this playoff format get right?
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Right?
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So that's that's difficult.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
It's it's that's where like I was talking with Ron
John Aboudy yesterday, like, well, I think the last time
to go first beat the buck guys was when Ron
Johnson was playing, and it was last time I think
it was Travis Cole playing QB and and and you know,
of course RJ had a day red Zone. Ron showed
up in a big way that gag big time. But
but to that end, Like, how can you sell Like
(10:18):
going into that game, you want to play your best
and people are wanting they want better, they want better
answers from PJ after a game like Saturday? Do you
really want PJ to be honest about it? Like, we
can't compete with the Ohio State. I love my kids
that I've brought in. I can't sit there and say,
you know, Coy Perrich is the best player on my team,
potentially the most gifted player on my team. He might
(10:40):
be eighth in Columbus. You can't get out there with that.
So you know, what are the realistic expectations that you
can sell to a team? Ye, and in that case,
a program and a fan base when when really you're
just not playing in the same stratosphere in terms of
money and dollars.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Okay, the NFL is experiencing this whole vibe right now
and it's just starting. It doesn't matter with whom I
had the conversation or when I'm just telling you that
when players get hurt, Okay, so they're you know, say
they're relatively young in their careers and their NIL when
(11:15):
it started was two three four million dollars. Yeah, Well,
who's calling the shots on when they're going to play
in a college football game. The coach, the trainer, or
the player, right, the player okay, with his best interest. Well,
that's segueing into the National Football League from what I understand.
When it comes to players being so used to dictating
(11:40):
the terms on how their bodies are going to be handled,
whether they're cleared from injury or not, it's you're starting
to get players who professionals who are the best of
the best and have done it for decades, have gone
through everything, and you're cleared to play. I ain't playing now,
does it? My contract's coming up here? I got this
(12:03):
down the road and I'm I'm gonna wait. Well then
that sends ripples throughout teams because now you're getting coaches
and or old schoolers being like, what that's I'm not
used to this one. This is a new curveball that's coming,
that's starting.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
You're saying that that evolution is creeping into the big league.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
It's not a title wave, but it is a developing
title wave. I agree with a lot of players who
are used to the NIL culture, and they've been they've
been They've been coddled by these agents to know This
is not in college football. The trainers call, it's not
the coaches call. It's our call. And it's the inmates
in essence running the asylum. And I'm telling you right
(12:47):
now it's trickling into the National Football League with certain
players and injuries and being cleared by NFL teams. But no,
I ain't coming back. No, I just I'm not. But
it's not necessarily because well what or where's the pain?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Is it? What a six, seven, eight of ten? No,
it's a three.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
But I got this to think about, this to think about.
I'm not taking any chances, so just keep that in
your back pocket.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Well, the players have the power.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Now, that's basically how you're kind of describing it, right,
like these individual guys have more power getting there and
the team and the university and there it is, Yeah,
one hundred percent, and it's only getting worse. And I
think one hundred percent agree with you, Pa. There's there's
becoming a there's becoming less of the pride on the
front of the jersey and it's becoming more to the back.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Amen.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
That's tough because I do want players to have the
power though, Yeah, I know it's yeah, it's give and
take with that, right, given the revenue that they're bringing
into university. You appreciate the idea that players are reaping
the benefits, but what is that balance within the construct
of what we consider a team.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
But how mature are they in recognizing that's how it
was here. I'm going to have to change my face
and change my mindset at the next level, because the
way this works is I get a signing bonus, I
get X amount of guarantees, and I have this contract.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Well, maturity does not appear to be a linear path. No,
it is not.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
There has to be some sort of rule in place, right,
Like the only way to kind of, you know, settle
on that is there's got to be some sort of rule.
And the way a lot of people are talking is
making these college athletes employees of said university. And then
now we're into a whole different conversation.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
During Parker Fox's next response, can you text me or
put on the screen please when you need me to
break for the next segment.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Well, it's yeah, we're we're beyond that. We're coming up school,
We're coming up soon. Yes we are.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Okay, Well, then you know what, let's just make this
a marathon thanks to Steve's Appliances Steve's Appliances dot Com
and when you go to the website, hit the shop
deals portion of the equation. But they always have great
things going on with guaranteed low prices. Okay, so if
you need an appliance, guaranteed low prices, Steve's Appliances dot com.
What do you think of your vikings?
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Yeah, it was, you know, it was that classic. The
alarm went off at A at eight twenty five, and
I was fired up and ready to roll, and it
was kind of a goosegg to start, and it was
just it was just kind of my eyes are still
a little drowsy, like wake up here, and then it
kind of kicked into gear and I thought the defense
played really well to start. There's a lot of really
good things that I liked. And then it just kind
(15:11):
of came a little stegment and I was like, where's
Jordan Edison, Where's t J. Hockinson, Like what are we
doing here on the offense side of the football. Here's
a fumble from Jordan Mason oh no, and e Xavier
Scott's fumbling the football And it was just kind of
a mess. But but the way they finished the game.
I think shows you a lot about Carson Wentz. I
think we're not giving Carson Wentz enough, you know, credit
for how good he is doing coming into this this
(15:33):
team as a new guy and just coming into a
different environment and trying to win football games for this team.
He goes twenty five for thirty four for two thirty
six and a touchdown. Like, if you told me that
Carson's going to give us that consistently, I will take
that every day of the week.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Lastly, you and Taylor sport nine jerseys when attending games.
Is McCarthy still your favorite player?
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:53):
You know, I think a lot of people have asked
me what do they do you know? Post by here,
like what does this football team look like like going
into the next next week when we actually have a
game where obviously off this week, and I still think
Carson is under center? I would I would think that
most people would agree with that. I would say you
probably would agree with that as well, whether injury is
as prevalent as we think it is. I think Carson's
(16:15):
kind of maturity and in his age and his experience
of being within this league and now he's got this
connection with Justin Jefferson. He goes for seven and one
twenty three, and just kind of the consistent approach that
you get from Carson Wentz, especially going into this four
game burner against these four teams.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
We are going to have to play now.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
You know, Baltimore's kind of fallen off a little bit
with the Lamar injury and the.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Eagles lost last night.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
But regardless, I think you look at this football team
and I think they are best when Carson Wentz is
under center.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Talk to you soon. Have a good day, Lodi. I
love you too.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Parker Fox at Parker Fox two four via the tweet machine.
We have money to be given away here and when
we return. If you missed the feeling all right montage
and some of these drive buys, you're going to get
a chance to hear them.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
That's around the corner.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
First, the fan and two men in a junk truck
want to give you a chance to win some bonus
box with the National Cash Contest. Go to kfan dot
com ander the keyword win and you might win. With
the keyword win at KFA and dot carcerss welcome back
nine to noon. Earlier in the show, you heard the
postgame locker room drive by interviews that PA does after
(17:21):
Victory's twenty one to seventeen. Of course, the Vike's victorious
in London and wanted to replace some of them for you.
Starting off with quarterback Carson Wentz the day that he
had and PA kicked off that conversation with Carson like, hey,
you know the coach talks about being at your best
when your best is required, and it took all of
that yesterday, didn't it, Carson?
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Good team win. Honestly, the way guys were resilient. Next man,
I'm mentelled. He just continues up front. Those guys fought
their tails off and just to finish way we did
was awesome.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
And I'm really glad you said that with the Makeshift
Minnesota Moving Company because you start with three starters down
Deresol's on a pitch count, so now you stick to
that school flips Rouse comes in and you win the game.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
How about those guys. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
I mean, how many people can switch sides playing tackle
in the middle of a game, let alone going against
arguably the best in the world on the other side
of the ball in Miles Garrett. So hats off to justin.
Hats off to Hubert stepping in today, Walt coming in.
Guys played their tails off and when it mad at
the most guys stepped.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Up last one brother, and you, your playmakers came through
at the end. I mean you had to get it there.
But this guy right here, Jordan Addison walks off on him.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
TJ.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Hawkinson with some huge catches and Jefferson over one hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Man, I'm just so blessed to play with guys like that.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. This crew is special. Makes my
life easy's just giving them chances to make plays. We
miss him today, definitely wants them back. I can be
better too, but those guys are special. That's an elite group.
And glad we got it done the way we did.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Congratulations but thanks Pa, God bless, God bless. Carson Wentz,
quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings as the as the Vikings
beat the Cleveland Browns right at the wire, justin quick
drive by real quick more than one hundred yard today
got to the riot of Jordan Addison, walks off.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Hockinson made some big catches late.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
But seriously, the a topic here, man, is what I
call the Minnesota Moving Company the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
It was a makeshift moving company. Three fists down.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Then darrisaw on the pitch count and school has to
flip during the game and Rouse comes in and you
guys win.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
How about those guys, Kudos to them.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Definitely, a big big shout out to them, you know,
without them and without their relentlessness and you know they're
they're eager to fight and not really you know, you know,
hang their heir versus the adversity, especially.
Speaker 7 (19:35):
With a group you know like that with Cleveland.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
Uh, they they start everything, They're the start of the
train and uh they make everything go. So definitely, you know,
a big big shout out to the olone and justin.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I don't want to slow you down. Last one here.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Man, we got jets with us and you know we
we either saw it practice or heard all week. Hey,
you know, Cleveland's got this nice front seven Miles Garrett
and Miles really good. But they like to play a
lot the man, which they did because my take was like,
if you're gonna think you're gonna single eighteen three eighty
seven and or won the entire game, eventually they're gonna
get you.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
And they stuck to it.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
You go over one hundred to move the chains, they
stuck to it. So I guess credit to them for
doing what they do. But you ended up with a
big game to that.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Yeah, man, I mean we said it this whole entire year.
You know, we have so many different weapons and so
many different playmakers out there on that field. We just
need to give it to them and let us work
and do everything else on his own. So, you know,
a big shout out to the old line, big shout
out to you know, Carson for evenir facing that adversity,
getting hurt in the first half and still coming back
(20:40):
and finishing the job. So it was just a relentless win.
And really, you know, kudos to this whole team for
keeping our head up and not really you know, hanging
out here, you know, which you know, it's countless times
we've been through this, but it's just over and over
again that we're we're facing adversity and we're still attacking
the head on.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Justh and God bless you man. Enjoy some downtime, okay.
And I gotta say, man, you and I have done
a lot of these drive buys. This is the first
free chain justin Jefferson I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I mean, those things are beautiful. Man. You want no,
I want to. I appreciate you, but I'll take the
victory today.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Thank you, Agen, love brother, much love Justin Jefferson at A.
I had a big, big game today and Jordan Addison
caught the uh the game when he touchdown. Let's walk
around with these uh with these drive bys and where
we're gonna go here, walk over here real quick? Hey,
will how you doing up? Just quick drive by from
(21:34):
your announcer. So, I mean the offensive line as I go?
Is the a topic today?
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Man?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I mean you're down three fifths, all right, So you've
started every game, you know, but then you tell us
it went like uh like School, he's right tackle flips
over the left because Deresol's on the pitch count. How
difficult is that to like change positions like into the
fourth quarter?
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (21:56):
Yeah, it's super tough and it takes a lot of
you know, mental toughness too. And for School to be
able to do that and play at a really high
level is speaks a lot about you know, his preparation
and just his character and his you know, willingness to
do anything to help the team. So just hots off
to him for doing a great job and no matter
what he's asked to do and doing it at a
high level too.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
And and you know, calling the games on the radio forever,
I've called the offensive line the Minnesota moving company. It
was the makeshift moving company today. The guy that you're right,
Blake Brandell, never played center in the National Football League game.
You leave with the money, you get all the pounds. Uh.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
The guy that you're left is justin school.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
You got Joe Huber, rookie from Wisconsin, and then we
talked about Rouse and and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
I mean, what an effort by you guys.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
Yeah, I think it starts with Blake step being at
center and a guy that is super smart's super tough
and willing to do whatever it takes to help the
team and like it's not easy to step in there
and never having done before in a game, and he
played super well. I'm so pumped for Blake. We've already
talked about justin flipping from both sides, but having such
a deep group and it helps Walter can come in there,
(22:57):
do a good job, knows what we're supposed to do,
and then awesome for ho you know, undrafted guy who's
able to who just had a great camp to prepare
every single day, super hard, just keeps getting better and
from me his first start, you know this quick in
his career. He's just gonna keep us sending and he's
gonna be, you know, continue to develop into a great player.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
I know you went through a lot in the off
season recovering from injury, and it's great having you here
and to enjoy your downtime.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Okay, thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
Well.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Fries starting right guard for the Minnesota Vikings. Justin we
call these drive bys. We just hit people just with
a couple of celebratory questions. But you tell us what
it's like, all right. I mean you started a right tackle,
you flip over the left into the fourth quarter. That
was part of the plan. Derisaw on the pitch count?
What what is that like? You know when you probably
(23:43):
practice at multiple spots during the course of the week.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
But I mean this is.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Miles Garrett and a super well respected front seven.
Speaker 9 (23:50):
Yeah, I think it's just part of the job. I mean,
they do a good job getting us reps all around
at different spots, and so credit to the coaching staff
for making sure all of us are always prepared for
whatever role that is asked of us, and it just
comes down to reps. And so gotten plenty of reps
with Joe throughout training camp and then throughout the weeks
throughout the season, and then the last couple of weeks
gotten them with sput Will as well, and so just
(24:11):
kind of get keeping that continuity and the more reps
we can get with each of the guys helps.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Justin school final one here and you know you cut.
You joined the team from the Buccaneers. Okay, you started
games before in the NFL, But I mean, enjoy your
downtime here, man.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
I mean you had to miss a game. I think
it was a concussion.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
And you've played left tackle, you've played right tackle, you
played right tackle, flipped the left tackle during the game.
Had you ever changed positions like that during.
Speaker 9 (24:37):
A game, Not in that not like with that game
being that close. I had done it later in a
game when the game had gotten out of control, trying
to take like veteran guys out, I'd moved, but not
in that point with the game being close like that before.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
I appreciate you, man, enjoy your downtime.
Speaker 9 (24:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (24:51):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Justin school, right tap, right tackle and left tackle. The Blake,
the Minnesota Moving Company, the Makeshift moving company.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
That's my a topic.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
I mean, Carson, like O'Connell, always says, be your best
when your best is required.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
He was. Jordan sits out the first quarter. He was
at his.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Best when it was required. He wins the game. Ryker
hits the extra point, Jefferson over one hundred. I mean, okay,
so there are a lot of but it's that offensive line. Man.
You came into it with three fists of the starters down.
You're playing center for the first time in the NFL.
When's the last time you played center?
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Period?
Speaker 7 (25:25):
I've never played center in the game. That was my
first go around, believe it or not. Yeah, So just
scout team, you know, practice and you know, trying to
work on the craft and make it so I was
ready whenever I was needed.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
So what was that like?
Speaker 2 (25:38):
I mean, because you know, like you said, you've done
it a lot in practice, training camp and stuff like that.
But you know, this is against a super well respected
front seven, that Michigan rookie Mason Graham, you know, taking
fifth overall. Malie Collins, like eleventh year man, he's a load.
Holy cow, what was it like today? I think what
it came down to was leaning on the guys to
the left and right of me. And I think that's
(25:59):
what we all kind of did, you know, played as
a unit, played together Ko preach staying connected this week
as a team, and I think we did that, and
we especially did that as an offensive line, and you know,
just trusted each other, and.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
Uh, you know, no one quit. It was it was
it was an awesome game, super emotional and uh, we're
all really really proud of each other. Lastly, you've been
around a while now, so I mean you've been in
practice and seeing cam Aker's throw before he was five
of eight for ninety seven yards of Florida State. O'Connell's
always been infatuated with his arm all the way back
to the Rams days. To finally get that call out
(26:33):
of the wildcat and then he hits Oliver.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
How great was that?
Speaker 10 (26:37):
That was?
Speaker 7 (26:37):
That was awesome? And you know, we it was game
planned and I had a ton of a ton of
faith in cam making the throw, but you know, we
had two polers and so I'm pulling around and I
think it was spun right next to me and just
seeing Jo kind of just oh, he's out there and
I see the ball go over ahead. I'm like, no way,
it worked. So that was awesome. And props to Cam,
Props to Jo, props to everybody, Props to the coaches.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Hey, man, I know you guys are on the grind
day to day and it's human nature to like look
at mistakes and try to correct them instead of thinking
about accomplishments. Enjoy yourself during the off time, man, because
that wasn't easy what you accomplished today. You I mean,
you had your training camp as a guard was fantastic,
and you were the center today. So enjoy some downtime
and congratulations you bet.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Thank you, Blake Brandell after justin school and others. Thirteen
different offensive line combinations through five, Holy cow, let's rat
a lot some talkbacks when we return.
Speaker 10 (27:36):
I get a gait.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Until the morrow.
Speaker 10 (27:42):
I day. I'm sure you guys have talked about it,
maybe off the air, but I'm just curious, what are
your thoughts on the WILL record potentially hitting that wire
that cam wired. Nine of the NFL said they reviewed
it so they didn't see it, but it looked like
the ball just got shot in mid air, went to
the right side there. I'm just wondering your thoughts if
(28:02):
you saw anything, Pa, being as you were, you were there.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Great question. No we did not. Nobody did because it
didn't emerge until after the game. There was no conversation
about it during the game. So the the now the
the origin of of of why was the wire there,
to whom did it belong? And what happens moving forward
if something like that transpires. Nordom made a good point
(28:30):
earlier talking about at and T Stadium where the Cowboys play,
and punts that have hit the big scoreboard and what
transpires out of that, which which I can't remember. I
think it's redo the play. I think you repunt, Yeah, repunt.
So it would be something like that, very unfortunate situation.
Fortunately it didn't impact. The Vikings were still able to
(28:52):
win despite Ryker's kick looking like it was going to
go right down the middle then it hit that thing.
Speaker 11 (28:59):
Hey John from Minneapolis. Here, I see a lot of
people saying that we have to play JJ McCarthy as
soon as he's healthy, regardless of our record or how
well Wentz is playing.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Why is that the case?
Speaker 11 (29:10):
This roster is built to win now, and we still
have McCarthy for three more years on a rookie deal
after this. I think if Wentz continues to play the
way he's playing, we have ten or eleven wins in
our sites. Keep playing him and let JJ McCarthy win
the job in camp next year school bikes.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Well's this talker's hot, isn't it?
Speaker 10 (29:29):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, no, I know that from Ben line. Yeah, and
that's been from the moment he went down with the ankle.
It was.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Let's just say, a lot of seven oh one North
Dakota area area codes have been jumping in. Of course,
go buy z in. There's a z in there by
the way, folks, North Dakota state love as it is.
But as soon as McCarthy went down and Wentz was
going to get the opportunity, people will have been on it.
What if and we've asked that question, what if he
plays lights out? Well, what is lights out is lights out?
(29:57):
Three hundred and three? Every game is lights out. Three
victories as lights out, providing maybe even at the minimum,
a veteran presidency that you weren't seeing through two games.
That's why going back to the first hour. You know what,
as the coach said, that's definitive. And to that original
Talkbacker's point, nothing has been definitive. But I think that's
(30:18):
kind of the nature of multiple factors.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
It is.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
I have to evaluate what I saw of McCarthy through two,
but I also have to evaluate what I saw of
McCarthy through too with Justin School getting worked on the
left side. Loved what justin School did yesterday. I think
an a topic with that, by the way, at a minimum,
at just the most fundamental level, you know, if we
were doing Nordo's numbers zero as in the number of
(30:42):
O linemen that left because of injury yesterday, you got
a ton of reps all week with the humor and
cam excuse me, Michael Jurgens was out, so Brandell was
getting those reps and we started with that five and
other than the snap count bit, you ended with the
same group. I think that's absolute pivotal in some ways
to the success you saw with that O line yesterday.
(31:03):
So analyzing McCarthy through two with a weird O line situation,
people getting hurt midstream, and then what is the health
in his ability to ramp up from practice? So I
don't think the coach has been definitive, because I don't
think he can be definitive. But I think McCarthy's also
the plan, and if you stick to the plan the
way the coach is stuck to other plans, I think
you go with number nine when he gets a full
ramp up.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
McCarthy also didn't have Jordan Addison, and that changes things too.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Yeah, Christian Darisaw being back, Jordan Madison being back the potential,
I mean just more healthy than they've been, maybe potentially
at any point in this run. That puts again the
foundation of what McCarthy can work with is he'll be
at as his most armed as he has been.
Speaker 9 (31:46):
Now.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
I would wonder if I ran the team, I would
wonder what Justin Jefferson thought, because Justin is maturing in
a way where we not only have superstar player who
cracked another Moss record yesterday for amount of receptions within
the first six years, but he's maturing in a way
(32:10):
where he's comfortable enough to say JA and I had
words and it's about maturity, man. And there's a lot
that goes into that bottom line you collect every two weeks.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Stinks.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
It's the third or fourth time we've had to hear
him say that, but yeah, oh has he yeah, multiple times?
Oh okay, yeah right, yeah, I must. I'm stepping up
as a leader. I'm taking him under my wing. Yeah
kind of. Oh I see he said those things again
after after get it.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
So I would wonder what Justin Jefferson thought about the
quarterback situation. Yeah, you know, it's not the end all
to what my decision would be. But you know, you
you you you're going to feed the kitty, so you
want the kitty to be happy. Yeah, that's uh, that's
something that bears conversation during the course of the week.
(32:54):
Let me think that thing out. And we thank you
