Speaker 1 (00:08):
Bard of goal at the nine. Here's the snat strout
pocket collapse.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
It dumps it off.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Till Woody takes it across the five handed touchdown Houston
see j.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Straut Hurst of goals the five hand off day, trying
to dance between the tackles, taking.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
It across duck all line touchdown Kosten five yard run
dry the ballet. Texans retake the lead on Kansas City
at Arrowhead Stadium.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Bucks, let's continue glorifying the good around the National Football
League and joining us now is one of our very favorites,
at least for yours. Surely his name is Mark Vandermere,
now used the play by play voice for the Houston Texans.
The Texans get the glorifying the good segment this week
thanks to Mark joining nine to now. And the team
(01:02):
is eight and five and has won five in a row.
Now the Mark, the Chiefs went on the road. I mean,
that's all about a signature victory. How good are your
Texans right now?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Vox? And what was the defense led victory at Arrowhead?
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
It was so good? Paul? You know that's NFL bliss
right there. You go into a place where it's been
a house of horrors. Let's be honest. You know you
won there at twenty nineteen in the regular season playoffs.
You blow a twenty four to zero lead in the
divisional round. That hurt a lot because how they won
that game. They would have been playing the Titans at
home in the AFC Championship game, but they blew it.
(01:45):
And I'm not going to go over all the frustrations,
but you lost in December last year there, you lost
in the division round there last year, and it's just
tough to win. We all know Patrick Mahomes is great.
We all know about Andy Reid. Chris collins Worth will
tell you all about it, how great they are. And
the Texans go in there and really beat the living
daylights out of them with their defense. They really made
(02:06):
life miserable, turning over Mahomes three times. They got the
two fourth down stops in the fourth quarter. Texans did
not turn the ball over, which, Paul is basically the
game plan right now for the offense. Just get it back.
I mean, just don't worry about moving the ball so
much as don't turn it over. Just don't give them
the ball in our end of the field because the
defense can take care of business and they have. That
(02:29):
night was magical. That run you just heard. I know
it was a very dramatic five yards run by the description,
but it felt like that because the Texans have struggled
in the red zone so much. So here they are
yet with the five game winning streak and they're hoping
for more.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Mark The Texans lost the first three this year and
I've gone eight and two cents. Do your fans lament
on that bad stretch making things a little more difficult
these days than they should be.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
No question, Because one of those losses is, you know,
I understand losing at the Rams. They're a good team
and you only gave up fourteen points to them, but
you only scored nine. And then the next week you
had Tampa Bay done but on fourth and ten, Baker
Mayfield scrambles for a first down and a lot extra
and they eventually win the game. But Week three was
(03:18):
at Jacksonville and that was a tailor made Texans victory
that they did not get. They turned it over. The
Texans did three times in Jaguar territory and lost the game.
So there you are zero to three. So yeah, you're
always going to look back on you should have won
at least one of those, probably two, and you'd be
in a completely different situation. But you know this, Paul,
(03:38):
the universe changes, right Maybe you don't have a five
game winning streak now, maybe you aren't as desperate and
playing as well as you are right now. Who knows
what happens, because everything changes. It's the butterfly effect of
the NFL and life. So here we are eight and five.
I think everybody would have taken this if you said
this back in July. Would you take eight and five
at this point? Yes, I would, even though the Jags
(04:00):
are still in first and the Colts are tied with you.
But the Colts have other issues, so I would have
taken this going in and take my chances down the stretch.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
What do you make of Philip Rivers joining the Colts,
the team with which your squad is tied in the
AFC South.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
My first thought was Dan Marina was unavailable. Really, we're
going to do Philip Rivers? Okay, Now, look, it could
work a little bit. I hope it works for at
least one game, because they're going to play the Jaguars,
and if they knock them off and the Texans went out,
then the Texans get the division. But first things first,
they got to play Seattle. I Like everybody else, I'm
(04:38):
an NFL fan. I want to see it because it's interesting.
I don't want it to work well because it's the
Colts and they are our sworn enemy in this division.
I mean, they're the all time Texans nemesis. But it
is fascinating, right, and he's a great guy to have
up there at the podium talking about it. It's just
a great story. And the Colts, Paul, how did they
(05:00):
they do this? I mean, they knew that Daniel Jones
leg was a ticking time bomb, and they knew Riley
Leonards in their building. They knew that that's probably not
the best option as a backup. You have to have
a good backup quarterback in this league.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
You know that.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Everybody knows that, and they didn't, and here they are
signing Philip Rivers.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Speaking of quarterbacks, Mark has CJ. Stroud caught fire?
Speaker 1 (05:23):
No, he has not caught fire, but he's made some
really nice throws. And in that game the third quarter,
Chris Jones started to take things over. You know, he's
an absolute monster, a terror on the defensive line, and
he was really tough to deal with, and I credit
him with most of their struggles in the fourth quarter
when they went three and a half four consecutive times.
And obviously CJ's numbers don't look good, but when you
(05:46):
look at the quarterback comparison from Sunday night, both quarterbacks
were sub fifty percent. But Stroud did not turn the
ball over, no fumbles, no picks, and that was the
difference in the game. The Texans were able to take
the ball away and obviously had the two fourth down stops,
and we can question whether Red should have gone for
it on the first one in particular, but it happened
and CJ did not turn it over, and he made
(06:06):
a big throw, a huge throw to Nico Collins along
the way in the first half, and a big one
to Higgins in that short touchdown drive that got them
the lead that was capped by that Dari Goodbill while run.
So I think CJ is doing fine second game back
from the concussion absence, and he's just got to keep
leveling up here on his way to the postseason.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
We are glorifying the good in the NFL, and the
Houston Texans get center stage this week. This is Mark
Bendermere now their longtime play by play voice. And you
know Nordo, the producer of the show all season, has
been saying for most of the season, Houston has the
best defense in the NFL, best defense in the NFL. Statistically,
that would be accurate, but I hadn't watched the Texans
(06:46):
play a lot until recently, and I've seen a couple
of games, and he's absolutely rights. It is the best
defense going in twenty twenty five. And I can tell
from a far mark that they just loved Daniil Hunter
down there.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Don't bet.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Absolutely love Danil Hunter. I mean, how can you not?
And don't you think because you had him for longer
than we've had him that he does not get the
credit he deserves for being as great as he is.
I think he's third in sacks since he entered the league,
behind Miles Garrett and TJ. Watt. That's got to still
hold up because that was the case about a week
and a half ago. So that's amazing stuff right there.
(07:25):
But he doesn't get discussed sometimes with the great pass
rushers because you know, he's not a flashy guy. At
the podium, you get a microphone in front of him.
I mean, there was a recent postgame locker room celebration
speech and coach wanted him to say something. He said
something like, thanks, guys, I'm really fired up. But on
the field he's an absolute Tasmanian devil. And I think
(07:46):
what's happening with him and Will Anderson Junior is that
they are setting the edge so well right now and
they're not going for sacks. It's let's play in concert
up front. Everybody, stay in your lane, do your job,
and the sacks will come. Don't worry about the sacks.
Nobody freelanced, Nobody trying to fly up field and come
back and bend back to the quarterback. Let's just crush
(08:08):
the pocket and take it from there. That's really working
well for them the last couple of games. Not a
lot of sacks against Daniel Jones and against Patrick Mahomes,
but you're looking at success because they're forcing bad throws
in completions. They get off the field.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Time for two more.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Former Gophers offensive lineman Arianta Ersari has started all thirteen
for the Texans, and at the important left tackle spot.
How was the second round rookie handled business?
Speaker 1 (08:36):
This is another thing that doesn't get discussed enough, and
I think because the Texans offense is not exactly setting
the world on fire, but erth three has held it down.
You know, they got rid of Laramie Tunzel in the
offseason and that was a controversial move and it took
a while. But erthree is a rookie, you know, And
I've told the story before. I once asked Dwayne Brown
about playing left tackle. He said it took him three
or four years to figure it out and he became
(08:58):
one of the better ones in the NFL. And I
think with Ursery, he's catching on. I think they found
their guy. Second round draft choice. Yes, he is the
man to hold it down at left tackle, so at
least they got that one squared away. They're running Trent
Brown right now right tackle, and I'm just holding out
hope that he can stay upright because he's effective. But
you know, he's not exactly a young man anymore in
(09:20):
this league. So we'll see how it goes with the Olona.
They have their best five out there right now in
the spots where they have them. But it's got to
hold up because four games is a lot of games.
You know, you have four games to go. You got
to finish strong, get to the postseason and see what
happens there.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Mark, you mentioned Larrymy Tunsel, Well, we just had Washington.
So when I'm putting together the game calling depth chart, yeah,
I was flabbergasted to learn after having nineteen penalties with
the Texans last year, including six to one game against
the Minnesota Vikings, Laramie Tunzel only has five penalties this
year and he had zero Sunday gas mask guy has
(09:59):
turned off the gas mask.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Well, good for him. I'm happy for him. You know,
it's not going well in Washington overall, as you know,
But yeah, I think it's worked out well for both
parties here. You know, they got Laramie, good for them.
But the Texans got picks and I think they found
their left tackle. So you know, that's one of those
things where it's not exactly Stafford and Golf, but it's
one of those trade trades that could work out for
(10:23):
both teams.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Lastly, brother glorifying the good Texans, Mark VanderMeer Box, do
do you think the Texans are going to win the division?
Jacksonville leads by your game and has the Jets at
Denver at Indy and the Titans at home to close.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
It's a great question because Jacksonville's toughest game is at Denver,
and it's a lot to ask the Texans to win
out because it's the NFL and everybody's gunning for you.
Now they're going to be the hunted and all of that.
But Jacksonville has really impressed me. We took their souls,
we thought, with that come from behind win down nineteen,
beating them at NRG Stadium with Davis Mills. But since
(11:01):
then they've reeled off four consecutive games, including a blowout
win over the Chargers, who looked pretty good. So I
don't know what to make of Jacksonville right now. I
don't trust Trevor Lawrence if I'm a Jags fan, but
I think Liam Cone knows what he's doing and maybe
he's getting the best out of him. Finally, because it's
only been this year, so late in the year, maybe
they're peaking at the right time. I think it's gonna
(11:23):
be tough to win the division, Paul. I think the
Texans get in as a wild card, but I'm here
for the division possibility because there's always a chance for
the Jags to meltdown.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Lee, you know, we'll be calling you in the postseason.
God bless you and your family and thanks a lot, Mark,
have a good day.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Thanks Paul, always a pleasure.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
That's Mark Vandermere, long time played by play voice for
the Houston Texans nine to noon, glorifying the good that
is in the NFL, and the Houston Texans are eight
and five. Now I ended the penultimate, which is the
next segment Joe Smith from the Athletic and Theathletic dot Com.
There he put a tweet out involving the Wild that
(12:01):
has a bit of intrigue and surprise to yours truly,
and we'll begin with that when he joins with the
Stars in town.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
And that's now, Thank you, Saint Paul.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Wild and Stars tonight seven o'clock on k f A
N It's time to drop the pot. And joining us
now is Joe Smith with the Athletic the Athletic dot
Com covers the Wild for the Athletic the Athletic dot
Com and you can follow him via x at Joe
Smith n h L. And as as I said after
(12:44):
the after the last segment into the penultimate, what what
I what I find I don't want to say surprising.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
And then Joe knows more about it than me.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
But Gustafsen gets the gets the net tonight, so that
means too consecutive for bus. Uh what do you think about, Joe?
Were you surprised by it? And good morning, Good morning
to you two.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Always great to be on.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Yeah, it was the first time I think in fifteen
games that they didn't do the rotation. I think part
of it, John Hines said this morning was the schedule.
They had a couple off days after the long trip,
and Gustuson played well in Seattle on Monday and that win,
and so they go with him, and they have a
back to back this weekend. So the both good games
this weekend, and they figured to get Walstad a couple
(13:27):
of skates or more live practices before going.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Back in after a long layoff.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
So you know, Gusa said, came in the year as
the number one goalie, and obviously walst that played so
well that it earned himself a spot in.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
A back and forth rotation.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
But I think Hinzan mentioned he wouldn't do that all
year long, back and forth every game, But I think
it was more so the part of the scheduling situation
this week that led to that.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
But I was sad about a.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Who's in goal with a very tough matchup for the
well tonight with the team that they had a lot
of success with in the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
No doubt.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
And we'll get more into that momentarily. But at Joe
Smith NHL of this most recent tweet that I read
before we went to break bus. Gustafsen starts tonight and
and John Hines intimated this yesterday nine to noon. Joe Dagger,
Zip Zucarello and Middleton both more than just day to day,
(14:18):
Heine said today Felino and Hinnestroza haven't started skating yet.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
No timeline for ROSSI So I.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Mean with with with Zuki and Midzi and no matter
the goaltender, it's it's a tall task beating a team
you haven't beaten a regulation for two plus years. I
believe they're eleven one and four on the road. I
watched the third period the other night of their victory
over Winnipeg, and I mean they were just all about
tenacity on the penalty kill and protecting the front of
(14:47):
the net and everything.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
These stars are very very good, right they are.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
It's interesting too, the best teams of the league are
right in the division for the while the right with
Colorado and Dallas.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
And Colorado is.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
Like they're just so fast. They're just so fast and
so skilled. There's like another level to some certain teams.
I think Dallas is morelands just clinical, right, Like they're
so smart, they're so disciplined.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
They have a lot of really good.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Players in their team. Of course they have the firepower
as well, but they're just so well coached and so
clinical and what they do, and they have anger in
that who I think is eight oh one to three
is his career against Minnesota while too local kids, so
they have they check all the boxes to what you
want in the team, and I think it'll be a
great challenge I think for the Wild this season to
have two of the best teams in the league right
(15:33):
in their division face them all the time. That will
prepare them in theory for the playoffs and the problemsiony
to play one of them in the first round if
you get there now.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
As a side note here, quickly Joe wrote about skiing immortality,
Lindsey Vaughn's final Olympic quest, starting with a heavy heart
and clear inspiration.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
That's the headline for those who missed it.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
What's going on with Lindsay and and what did you
enjoy about writing that fantastic story?
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Well, thank you, Yeah, like obviously went into it. This
is her her comeback. She had retired for five years
and made her come out for a final season here
after partial need replacement to go for one last Olympics
in Cortina in February, which which is a mark one itself.
And I went to kind of do an early origin
story initially because she skid at buck Hill down the
road here between cities and that was repormative years and
(16:22):
skiing and and the coach that she had or the
original one that I believed in her, Eric Styler, at
age ninety nine in August. So she came down to
do the eulogy for him in September, and so I
talked to her just about you know, the origins and
obviously the comeback and what drives her and the inspiration
for everything that's going on, and so really interesting, right
(16:42):
one of my first four rays into kind of you
major skiing story and for the Olympics, but with a
lot of fun to write to learn about her through
her friends, her family and and some peers in skiing,
so definitely will be interested to see how how she
pulls off this one song in February, but it's definitely
fun to do.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Do you have a role with the Olympics via the Athletic.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Not this one, unfortunately. I know Collie Macrusso is going
to cover the men and some of the women's games
there too, so I do most see kind of some
previews stuff. We have a collection of writers either for
hockey and for other sports going. But yeah, that's I
won't be going to Milan myself in February, so definitely
(17:26):
be involved in previous stuff as well.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Well.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
The reason I bring it up is because you know,
I wanted to ask you and forgot to.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Text it to you. Did did Russo Radio make you.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Cover the entire nine day nine days of the Western
Canada Seattle Swing? I mean, doesn't he know you have
a young child?
Speaker 5 (17:45):
The kid grew up before my before a while I
was going through FaceTime over like nine days.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
I did pick actually the Western Canada trip myself. We
did the preseason draft of our draft our our road trips.
So you can't blame that fully on him. I didn't
anticipate him being in Edmonton this whole week when I
got back right for the rival researches for the women,
So it became a longer stretch. But yeah, road trips
feel a lot longer when you have a year and
a half your kid at home, for sure.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
What so sans Zooki and mid Zi and and just
everything else going into this game this evening, And I
know Sagan's out for the year for Dallas, but still
Robertson Niskan and Ranton's out of his mind good right now?
Speaker 2 (18:26):
And so on, what do you expect tonight?
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Like, like into the game, covering the game, the beauty
of the reality, TV, radio, audio or athletic is exactly
that is.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
You don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
You may think you know what to expect, but something
completely different can take place. But as of now, what
do you expect about tonight?
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Well, I mean I think it's it'll be a really
tough matchup right, And it's usually the first tame after
a long road trip is a struggle for a lot
of teams coming back that way. But I think that's
the beauty, like you said, of every day, like it
could be a great goalie performance like USA sidik them down.
You could have guys that have been stepping up, like
You're off, have a big game, or Parasenko kind of
get out a roative kind of blue at the start
(19:08):
the season. Uh play in the first line with with
eure Off and Priesauce. So clearly, you know, delt to
be the favorite in terms of how they've been playing
in what they do. But I think the world would
have you know, the last month or so, they've been
playing for the most part the game. They could give
Colorado's face like they did a couple of weeks ago,
and they can win against Dallas too, So it's could
(19:30):
go it could be six to one the other way,
or it could be a two to one well victory too.
The heck no, that's that's why I'm showing up tonight
at seven.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
Hey Joe, It's it's Nordo here, and you know part
of that stretch in which they've been playing really good
hockey and they're they're handling Colorado at home as fun
as that was on Black Friday, Like just one thing
as an outsider, like I'm noticing Marcus Joe Hansson maybe
playing some of the best hockey that he's played in
a wild sweater and you can tell me if I'm wrong,
but that's that's how I've seen it. Is there anything
(19:57):
in particular that's just looked right with him or the
pieces around him that have allowed him to have some
success here is thus far?
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Yeah, I mean, I know he cool off offensively recently
until that goal the other night, but overall he's been
a really consistent two way player and I think gets
a lot of it's been that line recently with Joe
Rix and Maclaer. What about today in the athletic and
in Matt Bowldie, who's been probably the best player all year.
It's just really good as a as a shutdown line
and also offensive line. But Johansson just came to this
year kind of like, you know, he didn't know I
(20:26):
could be last year or not, but he just entered
it on the eight hearn Dove dollar contract and was
willing to play any role possible and all of a
sudden was trusted to that top six because of injuries
and maybe young guys have being ready yet.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
And he's been.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Terrific all year and really shows where he could be
a guy that can maybe resigned eventually here for another year.
But but yeah, he's playing sound all around solid two
way Swedish hockey with what's the way they call it,
and he's really been a pleasant surprise when they needed
him after the rough of the season.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
How did how do you evaluate then?
Speaker 6 (20:56):
I mean there's probably the obvious answer is you just
see production. But his picture once in a while, if
if I'm if I'm third third line ham and Egger
type guy, you know, uh, lunch pale and a hard
hack going to work, and it's like, hey, you get
to be on a line with Boldie, Hey you get
to be on a line with with Capriz offense, and
then and then maybe you just see that.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Natural point production increase.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
It's just you know, being next to stars begets probably
the positive results on the ice, just and just wonder
how that that kind of thing's evaluated.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Well, it's tough like some guys like for example that
ya cop trend In right, Like he hasn't had a
lot of it's a production, but he's noticeable. You watch
him in the ice and nine hits the other night
he had it. You know, you could tell every shift
that that gun play, they were an offensive zone and
they were creating pressure and they were creata momentum and
so even if you're not producing offensively, you can still
make an impact. You could still be a guy that
really affects the game. And so I think in Johanson
(21:52):
is a different guy because he has been productive, mostly
offensively in his entire career in different stops. So I think,
you know, with him, he's a guy who's so smart.
He can play with the top end players like the Bowldies,
and he can also be reliable and play a third
line role if you want to play him down the
further down the lineup. So I think him and Eric
Sinak can bold be this spit so well, how they
(22:13):
think the game, how well they can kind of pressure
offensively and just skate. They all enter the zone really
well too, So that's why they've kind of sucked together
even with all the injuries. They wist to cut that
line together because it's been so effective.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Now, lastly, the Star's power play best in show. I
mean by far more power play goals than anybody else
in the NHL. Outside of the power play, what makes
the Stars so good?
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Joe, Yeah, like I.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Said, I think I said earlier, Like you know, like
they're not the fastest team in the NHL, but they
just they're so well coached and then they're so they
played it North South game really well, like they see
f the ice really well.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
And they have so many guys.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
On the line that can really hurt you. Right, They're
not just one line you can worry about or one
player that stands out. They have all these lines can
really be effective and hurts you. So I think this
is a really balanced the team. They can play physical
you want to play physical. They can have skill if
you want to play.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
A skill game.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
So, and they have really good goaltending, which is the
wild of Shew this year. They reason why Wild a
good team a lot of times because they have really
good goaltending, So a lot of they have all the
components to a really good team and that's why, having
said even so effective.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Enjoy the game tonight, and thanks for jumping in on
the nine to new radio show and we'll chat soon.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Thank you, Joe sounds great time, guys, Take care see you.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
But that's Joe Smith Athleticathletic dot Com at Joe Smith NHL.
Uh this this one, this one tonight's rather ballyhood as
we go with December hockey. Now, you know the Minnesota
Wild a bit ham Strong down Zukerrello and Middleton uh
and Gus Boss getting the net in back to back games.
(23:53):
Russo Radio tweets that it's the first time in fifteen
games that this has happened. And Dallas comes in eleven
one and four on the road, and like Nordo brought
up yesterday, you know it's it's there's a lineup of
accomplishment here that needs to be handled for Dans if
(24:13):
you care about that, or or or people around the
league to maybe take you as seriously as possible. And
the day after Thanksgiving, well before that, they beat the
Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Doesn't happen a lot.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
They beat Colorado the day after Thanksgiving in a shootout,
but they beat him and got two and the last
two Volsteads stopped, of course, McKennon and mccarr.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
And then you go to Winnipeg.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
You hadn't beaten Winnipeg in in regulation in a long time,
went up there and handled Alibach.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Next is the Dallas Stars.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
The Minnesota Wild has not beaten the Stars in right
around two and a half years in regulation. No regulation
victories over the team with the Star and the sweater
in two two and a half years, so that's a
good one. Tonight on Kfan, puck drop right around seven o'clock,
Joe o'donald and Tom Reid, Kevin Faulness by their side.
(25:11):
It's eleven forty and we're back after the lapp. We
can't wait for tomorrow because it's Buffalo Wild Wings Plymouth
for the Friday football.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
On Kfan with that.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Guy Nordo and this guy coming up here, Alex Lewis
from the Athletic and we'll talk about Jefferson and Addison
and Cashman and Dallas Turner and Dak and Javonte Williams
and George Pickens and oh yeah the quarterback last game
who got a victory and went to freeballing.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
It's a long.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Year talking about our mangles, the leg whips and the
fastballs too.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
He's a young kid. I hope he turns out like Elway.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
I've lost count to those that he overthrew.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Party to throw it over the middle and it's intercepted
by Iam Duffy.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
Neurological paths. The power of completions with pitch and catch
doesn't have to be this hard.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
But he's a young kid. You gotta keep to patience.
Even Cados like just go spinning around the yard. Now
he's free free poor little talk.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
Yeah he's.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
He's free.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
Jayj McCarty, Now he's pre.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Free ball Jay jamacarty. Well yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Joining us now is Alec Lewis with the Athletic and
the Athletic dot Com and the business. At times we
call him Young Alec. He's a valued member of the
new version of the Friday Football Feast, which tomorrow was
at Buffalo Wild Wings Plymouth, and Alec joins us. Now
the pure progression stuff all over at Alec underscore Lewis.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Is it is? It?
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Is it exhausting or tedious, like putting together the screenshots
and hoping people read them and good.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Morning, good morning, And that was the I had not
heard that song. I don't know if you just if
Nordo just recorded that for today, maybe that's been out there,
but I have not heard the mixtape on my own,
so that that was exceptional. I mean that really made
my morning, to be honest. But the pure progression stuff,
like it's been a lot and like you really have
(28:13):
it's kind of a close circuit. Probably either some people
listening have some idea or some have no idea, but
I've enjoyed it because it's been learning about the game.
And when I covered baseball, there was a culture of
like we're going to teach you about the game, and
then football it's less like that.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
So I've enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
I really have.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Actually it is inside baseball stuff with football. That's a
beautiful way to put it. Liber kind of verbally explained
it earlier, and and it's you know, I mean it's
it's difficult to read at times and understand it and
listen to it in press conferences, but it does matter.
I mean it does matter for the maturation of this quarterback.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Right Yeah.
Speaker 7 (28:51):
But I'll say this like, I mean pure progression. It's
not like the Vikings are doing something that others aren't,
like Pyle Shanahan, that's it's pure progression Sean McVeigh. Like
even with Matthew Stafford, they do a lot of pure
progression stuff. So it's really like for me, it's more
just learning about how the game is taught in the
NFL right now, and it's less really an application of
(29:12):
like in this with JJ McCarthy, it's something crazy different
that they're trying with him, like his development is a lot.
I mean, it's it's the process that a lot of
guys go through around the league and a lot of systems.
That's just part of it. And I think with JJ
the progression is less about peer progression than on Sunday
he was accurate with the football and that is the
(29:33):
utmost important thing. And will be Sunday night against the
Dallas Cowboys at AT and T Stadium.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Amen and at Buffalo wild Wings Plymouth tomorrow for the
Friday football feast. Covin and Court will be back in session.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Hell are you doing?
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Does has the prosecutor secured anything on which you are
working for?
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Both sepis to stand trial tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Yeah, it'd be unfair for him to be forced to
defend himself now as this is the discovery period, so
charges will be filed. But there's a quote at a
time like this in regard to Jordan Addison, a quote
from Alec Lewis when the Vikings are staring down some
serious roster reworking. It prompts a question is paying him
(30:15):
as in Jordan Addison A no brainer?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
So we have defamation here.
Speaker 6 (30:19):
We have subtle libelous content with the implication that the
roster needs any reworking, and then the other sec the
securities in Exchange Commission. They're kind of worried about some
market manipulation impacting the potential contract value of Jordan Addison.
So there's a lot to get into. Of course, in
our system of justice, Alec will have a right to
(30:40):
defend himself tomorrow and we will let a jury of
his peers decide his fate.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Yeah, I'll be kind of nervous.
Speaker 7 (30:48):
What Nordo I mean can find specifically from the Twitter
of last Sunday, and I was being pretty harsh on
the commanders. I know some people weren't happy.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Nice, you're implicating yourself before coming it right, Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
As as your nervous, I'm nervous as your.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Father, John Barrister Raised has told you, don't say anything
until required to say something, So we can't.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Amendment exists for a reason.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
We can't wait to see you and your extended family
tomorrow and that'll be a buffalo wild wings Plymouth.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Thanks, thank you, Alix. Have a good day.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
Yeah, so you see you probably later, looking forward to it.
Plymouth is one of my favorite places in the world,
so looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
That's the Friday football Feast Tomorrow, nine to noon coming
says that about each location the best he's winning favor
for profit on the FAM this week it's Plymouth. Nice
job with free balling and everything else. And I'm Paul Allen,
thank you very much for listening to nine to Noon today,
Feast tomorrow, Buffalo Wild Wings Plymouth. But first we put
a wrap on the show.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
That's a great set up, Bob, time for two more
good stuff. The game is over.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
So I did a little ditty on some free ball
and sadly America's got talent.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Ain't calling, But it's just our way of.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
Finding a bit of hilarity a weird year with some
throwaway parodies. But dude, well JJ, just spin it. And
what are your thoughts Sunday night?
Speaker 2 (32:14):
If we win it? Are you pumped that the KIDQB
is growing and he might stick? Or are you pissed
that it impacts.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
The draft pick at the Wild tonight skating among the stars,
get to Saint Paul early and avoid the lines of cars.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Not much of a better, but if you care.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
Feels like if the Wild win, it's an underwhelming affair
and it's tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
You heard it?
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Plymouth b Dubs whether you like it's saucy or you
dig the dry rubs, Ours come in the form it
takes and travel for Miles Greenway, I Hot for Charity
and Alec on Trial
