A little walking around money, but also somebody's gonna win
at the end of the season. Free fuel for a
year thanks to quick Trip. Thank you Canterbury Parkcanterbury Park
dot com. I will start with the Minnesota Wild and
enjoyed chatting with Gorgy Kevin Gorg who's out in New
York covering the Minnesota Wild as he does from a

(01:20):
TV standpoint at a high level. The Minnesota Wild found
their way into the winners circle last night, stemming the
tide of a losing streak on the road.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Three to one.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
They are victor's and you get goals last night. You
get to see Danila year off, You get brodein early
on tying the game against the Rangers. I think the
Rangers that that goal last night might be their first
goal at home this year. Rangers are struggling, yeah, and
Wild took advantage of it. Now they turn around tomorrow
night one more on the road, they'll face the New
Jersey Devils. Who will I believe the Devils are in

(01:52):
Toronto tonight, so they'll be on the back end of
a back to back. Maybe another opportunity to get two
points for the Wild before they return home to a
six game homestand Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Wild three three and one.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
A little up and down right now with Gus, He'll
he'll shut you out one night. Next night, he's giving
up five and watching a team that was so dominant,
heavy on the power play in terms of offensive production,
getting three last night, although won an empty netter, but
at least two via.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Five v five.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Seeing things kind of level out as they figure themselves
out offensively.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
I felt good for the goaltender because to who much
is given, much is expected. And in reading some Wild
stories up to the season or in the early stages
of the season, it might have been after he gave
up a bunch of goals in a preseason game where
where Gustavson conceded and opened up that, Yeah, I mean,
that's this is a lot of money, Okay. I mean

(02:47):
if I were to like talk for him and like
paraphraise while being accurate with what he was saying, it'd
be like, yeah, Bra, that's an unbelievable amount of money.
I've set up you know, family members, and you know
when I go back home and stuff like that. I
think at Sweden or whatever, you know, everybody's happy and
like mom and dad of houses and grandparents, that's all that.
So yeah, so now I got to come through. So

(03:08):
it just seemed like he was putting too much pressure
on himself. Yeah, where I mean, I'm certainly you know,
I wouldn't tell anybody, you know, what they should say
to somebody if they read quotes like that, and you're
part of the organization from a leadership standpoint, but I
would if I had his ear, I would remind him

(03:29):
or inform him. Bus, we didn't pay you that money
on what you've done. We've paid it on what you're
going to do. And so therefore we understand that there
are going to be problems along the way, because that's
just how it works in this game. At times, but
don't this is preseason. Don't put so much pressure on yourself,
and you're going to be fine. That's why we gave

(03:50):
you the deal man, and he settled down last night.
Made a really really nice save on Savannah jad maybe,
made a really really nice save on the side of
the net. Control of the rebounds pretty well, so good
for the Wild and John Hines, coach of the Wild,
very likely will be joining nine to noon tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I'm looking forward to that.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
I believe it's a six pm ish puck drop tomorrow
night against said Devils. Looking forward to hearing from Heinz
as well. Major League Baseball, we have a matchup in
the World Series that'll be first pitch sometime on Friday evening,
the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
And the Toronto Blue Jays.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
How about that game last night, Man, you were looking
for big timers in big moments. I thought Kirby on
the mound for the Mariners, for the most part, was fantastic.
Biab grinded his way through, gave up a bunch of hits,
of course, and a couple of runs. But you got
to see Rod Regez, young star paid him a ton
of cash. Love the future ahead for him. In Seattle,

(04:49):
Rodriguez hits a solo home run everybody's been fawning over
for good reason, by the way, cal Raley, the big dumper.
He hits a solo shot for the Mariners, makes it
three to one. But then the Blue Jays game charging.
And it wasn't the seventh inning where George Springer with
a three run home run gets you to four to three,
and the Mariners, Oh man, I mean it was Rodriguez

(05:11):
there again, the guy you wanted to plate. He was
chasing a bit, just trying to make so much happen.
In that final at bat he whiffs, and the Blue
Jays for the first time.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
It's either thirty two or thirty three years.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
I guess we're going back to like the John Oleroud
and Joe Carter days of the early nineties. So their
first time back to the World Series in three decades,
so good for them, and sadly for Softy and his Mariners.
They still are without an al Pennant and Dave Softy
Maller from.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
A kJ R and Seattle, who joined the show last week.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
When we caught Softy when his Mariners were up two
all on Toronto and oh, by the way, they won
both the games in Toronto, so I mean, it looks
so good for them to advance to.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
The World Series, but they didn't.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
And Softy is quite prominent via the two wheat machine
at Softy sof t y kJ r. And you know,
I like to follow his tweets during the game. I
didn't really do it last night, even though I did
watch a fair amount of that game.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Good for George Springer too.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
By the way, his first two at bats, holy cow,
he wasn't even close, man, And like you look at
his face, because George Springer is the only member of
the Blue Jays from a I think I said this
yesterday from a hitting standpoint, not pitching.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Hit of the hitters, the batters, the fielders.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Who has been to a World Series, so like, moments
like that are not supposed to be too big for him.
And he looked like he had seen the proverbial ghost
a couple of times early in the game when he
couldn't figure things out of the plate. Then boom, three
run homer and they take the lead four to three,
and they went at four three. Soft he went to
tweeting all night last night. He's back at it. This morning, Yeah,

(06:50):
he is, he got up early. Well, there was an
emotional one last night seven hours ago. As a matter
of fact, quote tweeting or quoting the tweet. Growing up
in Seattle, the Big Four. For me, We're all about
the Seahawks, Sonics, Huskies, and Mariners all right now. The
Seattle SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder. Yeah,

(07:12):
but he continues, Huskies and Mariners. The one thing I
really really wanted above anything else, the one thing we've
been chasing for the longest, was right there in front
of our face. For a split second, I allowed myself
to think that it was actually happening, and then a

(07:34):
split second later it was gone. Maybe I'll feel different
down the road, but right now this hurts worse than
anything I've ever been through as a sports fan. Heartbroken, man,
g dam heartbroken.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Wow that makes me heartbroken reading it.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Oh my goodness. And he woke up saying more of
the same. Yeah, they were up to nothing, they were
up three to two.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Pa.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yeah, he's reliving it, and yeah, sadly they found there
an hour ago, he tweets, I was in kind of
a daze last night and still not convinced this actually happened.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Is this ai We'll see now, I said.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Up for the radio show, he's trying to Yeah, he's
trying to be funny.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Well, and then hope the Dodgers shove it up their
bleeps in four.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
So he's a fowl. Yeah, he woke up one hundred
and six. Yep.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Now he's setting up a segment with did the Mariners
give us their greatest season ever?

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yes? Did the Mariners give us their greatest disappointment ever? Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
This sting's like nothing else nothing. I mean, that's six four,
six eighty six. That's free. iHeart audio talk back. Yeah,
that's that's into the microphone for broadcasting, not narrow casting.
I mean, this thing just writes itself, just off his tweets, right,
it does, it does.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Now his Seahawks got the victory last night Monday Night Football,
the the double feature that it was Lions, Lions all
over and and and it's it's an injury situation. Mike
Evans finally get him back and he leaves again. And
I think it's a shoulder related issue for Mike Evans.
So he's on the complete health grind right now.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah, that's right, and.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I think it might be bad because it was like
he left with the concuss Well, he was super dicey
into the game.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
They went on him.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Then I know he had a concussion and they pulled
him out for that. But then I think I saw
something later on the X machine that looked like an
injury that's going to cost him like weeks.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah, I guess I wasn't aware of the concussion. I
did see. I did see on a deep on a
deep pass attempt, he came down.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
With the ball.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Both knees hit the turf, which kind of forced his
body into a weird spot. I think he put all
of his weight on his shoulder and he eventually had
to be carted off because he was in so much pain.
But but he's he's potentially yes weeks and weeks and
weeks of the season in peril.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Here's the deal.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah, it's Mike Evans left with a concussion slash shoulder injury,
is what they said initially. Then what came out after that,
Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans to miss most of the
remainder of the season with a broken clavial.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Claviical Oh no, that's that's awful.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
For him.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
MVP style esque start to the season for Baker Mayfield,
but they had nothing against the kiddies. Last night, Campbell's group,
I mean, Gibbs just freaking went off on thirty six
on the ground, Hutchinson was eight some of the air,
Hutchinson with a fumble recovery, and he was harassing Baker
all day. It was a complete domination affair for the kiddies.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
And then last night, I mean, I know you probably
don't permit yourself to do this. There is once in
a while like I want JJ on the field.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Just hold on quickly with the With that Monday night game,
I left it knowing, Okay, into it, I knew Kirby, Joseph,
Brian Branch, Terry On Arnold, those are the three best
secondary members. Well DJ reads he's maybe the season, but
if not, most of it their other corner. So those

(11:05):
are their three best secondary members. I happen to think
they have the best secondary duo safety duo in the
National Football League and Joseph and Branch I agree, all
those guys are out.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Okay, so just just remember that.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Okay, Well, wow, holy cow, did Detroit's defense really turn
a corner? In this game without Branch and Joseph and
Arnold and Red and stuff like that. That that's the
narrative that I'm seeing established from last night end or
this morning. Now that high end offense, which is motoring

(11:37):
along nicely, is getting amplified, end or complimented by the defense. Okay,
I'm not going to shoot that down until we see
more games. However, when Mike Evans leaves a game that
already does not include Chris Godwin or Bucky Irving, good luck, Okay,
good luck. So the Lions defense is good, I got

(12:00):
respect for it. Ain't no doubt that's the best team
in our division. We've said it all year. But it's
a little conflated recognizing exactly what the Buccaneers were working
with from a skill guy standpoint.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
No, I'd agree with that. I don't think the Bucks.
I mean, the Bucks have been battling injuries all year.
They've handled it for the most part of Buka in
and out and all those things.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Wait did he play last? Was Abuka was in?

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
He was in?

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Yeah, But you know, you going with a game plan
having thirteen in the mix in Mike Evans, and then
you get that taken from you early the way it did.
I mean, you're going to struggle, and Bucky Irving means
a ton of this team and not having him a problem.
But I was just gonna end Seahawks over the Texans.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
I got another football one for you that I can't
forget before the end of the show. I'm texting with
Hicks right now, so we're good for twenty five. Okay,
sweet God, just I mean the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday, not Sunday.
The Philadelphi Eagles yesterday may have won the Super Bowl.
Do you know what I'm talking about. I mean, not Sunday, yesterday.
There was news that may that I saw it, and

(13:01):
I'm like, all right, well, they're now favored to win
the Super Bowl. In my heart, Oh, Brandon Graham came
out of retirement.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Are you serious?

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Brandon Graham ends retirement. It's official today.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
It was rumored yesterday and there was a little quote
and I'm like, well this is happening. Yeah, okay, this
ain't no rumor. So today Brandon Graham ends retirement, rejoins
Eagles on one year deal. Yeah, he's not even gonna
play well, so they yeah, they need they need some
edge pass rushing. He was a defensive end who could
play inside on third down. They'll give him ten snaps
a game then.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
But here's the bitch.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Is you want you want this, Hurtz Brown, Saquan Ish,
Devonte Smith, you want all that stuff to end. Get
Brandon Graham ten million dollars, You'll win the Super Bowl again.
I'm telling you, it's a mafio so South Philly deal
like that his uncle Brandon back Brandon, I mean, what
a world. I don't have to go to organized team activities.

(13:57):
I don't have to go to training camp. I don't
have to deal with all these clips penalties. I'm just
gonna wait for these fools to get loud and then
I'm gonna lay out what I need.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
They're gonna pay it to me. It's a hit. This
is not a season. This is a hit. Yes, it
is on an organization.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Great, Yeah they're back, Well they were kind of back
in the first place. But Brandon Graham d's retirement rejoins
Eagles on a one year deal.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Wow, is there to get everyone about that? I forgot
to text you on that last.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Everyone to get along unks back, He's gonna start speaking
in the locker room again. He's gonna start doing podcasts.
He gets to put the uniform on and have a
handful of rushes every game.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
I mean, with all due respect to Zadarius Smith, who's
had a lot of sacks during his career, I mean,
Howie Roseman, the general manager for the Philadelphia Eagles. He
didn't even have to move an inch for any of
this to happen. No, I mean, you lose Zadarius, who
can you know? I mean, Zadarius had a sack and
a half, but I don't know. I don't know if
anybody's ever called him like ten of ten team leader guy.

(14:58):
So you lose him, you'll win a game. Okay, you
get jail and carter back, you win a game, and
then the next day you bring in Brandon Graham.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
This is unbelievable. Just we gotta go. Okay, I won't chat,
won't chat more around the corner.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yeah, that's a new news dew Nord provided by Canterbury
Parkcanterbury Park dot com.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Former Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
And Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks joins nine to Noon
coming up soon.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
But first we get this cash thing, the.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Cash thing, the Fantasy Minute Junksruck Quad. I give you
a shot to win bonus bucks in the National Cash
contest at the Cafean dot com keyword is cash.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Keyword is cash.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Caffan dot com keyword cash.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Man play acting out of the shotgun, Harrison Phillips trying
to give him mist back.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Josh Mattella's force.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
The fumble Hits bouncing about picked up by Jordan Hicks.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Forty hardy.

Speaker 6 (16:02):
Jordan Hicks, with the second touchdown of his career, has
run the Minnesota Vikings to an eighteen six lead.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Jordan Hicks is a former Minnesota Vikings linebacker, had a
ten year career in the National Football League and also
got a Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles. And
Jordan Hicks joins nine to noon now for some football
conversation and Jordan, Uh, when when I came out of
that box boxes as we call it, or I call
it the broadcast booth, made a right to head into

(17:10):
a suite next door, and I saw you in that
big smile. That was just so great seeing you at
the Vikings Eagles game Sunday. Uh, did you happen to
have a rooting interest for either team? Giving you plate
for both of them, or like what brought you there
in good morning, good.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Morning, good morning. Yeah, you know, it was awesome, senior two. Pa. Man,
it's it's always a pleasure. I uh, it's funny you
say that. You know, it's only been a couple of
months since I made the decision. And my wife and
I looked at each other and we saw the schedule.
We're like, that's one we got to go to, right,
There's there's obviously there's obviously interest on both sides. I

(17:48):
barely know anybody on the Eagles anymore, you know, but
it's it's with all the turnover, but it felt like
being back in the stadiums like family again, you know.
And that was that was pretty special.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
That's great, man.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
And uh, you know when we were calling you, we
dropped in a highlight from when you scored a fumble
recovery touchdown.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I believe it was at Soldier Field.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
And and I was I was thinking, you know, because
you have two defensive touchdowns during your career. One I
think came your rookie year with the Eagles, and then
your final one came with the Vikings at Soldier Field.
And you know, you are so closely removed from playing
you do.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
What's it like right now?

Speaker 3 (18:30):
I mean, when you're at a game, you're on the sideline,
whether you know people or not, the pads are popping,
and the atmospheres lively and stuff like that. Is it
Is it difficult in any way to be at a
game and not playing it.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Yeah, that was That was the first one I've been to.
Right watching from home, There's there's really not any desire.
Like I miss Sundays. I miss the energy, but I
don't miss the way my body feels and and you know,
having to get into that mindset per se. But being
at a game, I was nervous. I had the butterflies going.
I felt like I should have been. I was on

(19:08):
my way to suit up, on my way to the stadium,
and yeah, it was those butterflies began. And as the
guys were warming up, I'm standing there on the sideline
and you know, shaking hands with theirs and seeing all
the guys, and I'm like, yeah, like this, like I
feel like I should be out there right now. So
there was definitely a bitch being in the atmosphere, hearing
the skull chad, hearing the fans get excited. So it

(19:31):
was odd it was. It was definitely an odd feeling,
but you know, I'm focused. I'm focused on my family
right now, and you know, I made the decision because
of that, and it's been special.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
Oh okay, and that that's you know, I'm glad you
said that, because I was hoping there wasn't something I
missed here, you know, And I know you battled some
injuries nearing the end of your career, but is that
the reason you retired? Like I got a good decade
out of it. We're good and I did it honestly,
and I did it in the name of the Lord.
And now we move move on as a family together.

(20:01):
Was it really like that?

Speaker 4 (20:04):
It was? And I wrestled with it right like there
was there was a part of me that just felt like,
you know, it's just six months out of your life,
Like you can, you can do anything for six months.
You can grind through it for six months. But as
I sat down and it took some time and stillness
and you know, really prayed on where I was supposed
to be, uh in this season of life. It felt

(20:25):
like it was with my family, and it felt like
it was at home and and you know, coaching flag
football I'm the pitcher for my kids coaches pitch team.
Like I've I've missed those moments over the years during
the fall, and you know, I didn't want to miss
those anymore. And so you know, it's been it's been
a joy of mine to be a part of my
family's life in a different in a different way. And

(20:48):
my kids are at that age right where you know,
you don't get this time back. So yeah, it was hard.
It was It was a lot of emotion into it.
I played the game for twenty three years, uh, and
it taught me so much. It allowed me to toul
be who I am. But at the end of the day,
you know, life, life changes, and the game doesn't, and
it doesn't it doesn't mature with you. And as I
began to mature, you know, I felt like I was

(21:09):
it was time.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
What what was it like when you saw Carson Wentz
because you came into the league year before him. You're
both with the Eagles. You know, he's the quarterback for
the team that will win the Super Bowl. Sadly you
got hurt, but you still got a ring. Then he
got hurt. Nick Foles comes in Philly, special whole thing.
But I mean, you know, I don't know how well
you know him, but you know, you're both Christians, and

(21:32):
the gospel of Jesus Christ is very important to both
of you. Likewise for me, so maybe you guys still
know each other in that circle. But was it was
it different seeing him wearing different colors?

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Yeah? Well, I'll start by saying that he is one
of my closest friends that I've made probably in the
sl So we were able to grab dinner Friday night
when we got in and him and his wife are
amazing people. They've got an amazing family. Uh. And yeah,
we had we had some special times together. We had
a lot of highs and a lot of lows that
you know, seemed to pair up with each other. And so, uh, yeah,

(22:07):
it's I was, you know, I'm excited for him, you know,
just to see him with Ko, with his offense and
knowing his history of cheering for this team right like
it is, it's it's special for him and he expressed
that and special force him. I know how special playing
for the Vikings was for me and my family and

(22:28):
how much you know, we missed it and loved it there.
Uh and and I know it's the exact same feeling
for him.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
You Jordan Hicks, former Vikings linebacker nine to him.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
You played with Brandon Graham, right, Yes, Okay, Well here's
the reason I bring it up. Because last year he
was uninjured or reserve. The Eagles at won eight in
a row, and they started arguing with each other about
AJ's not getting it enough. Davante said something, Jalen didn't
say anything, but by not saying anything, he said everything.
And then Brandon Graham went on the he's on the

(23:00):
injured reserve. Okay, he's not gonna play all year until
the postseason. He egos on some podcast and basically speaks
to those guys and the team via the media about
calming down, let's just stop this. And and I don't
know if he's like a bona fide leader guy, naturally
that's just how God made him. But ever since he
did that, people like on the Eagles agreed with him

(23:22):
and everything got better. Well, the the you know, the
Eagles at five and two, you know, with that explosive
passing game, at least what we saw Sunday was Saquan
and stuff running the ball.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
It.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
You know, there's still a little wonky and in and
out with some of the behind the scene stuff. Well,
Brandon Graham signed a one year deal with the team yesterday.

Speaker 7 (23:43):
It's like Ali Roseman's like, I can't, I can't take
this anymore, Brandon, what do you need? I mean, honestly,
he might have gotten like seven million dollars to just
come in there and like manage these guys.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Is he just that kind of guy?

Speaker 4 (23:57):
Brandon is an amazing, amazing human being. He is. He
is somebody who wears his heart and so honestly he
lays it out, all out on the line, and yeah,
he'll come into a locker room and he will be
a calling presence, you know, and he's he's going to
tell it like it is, and he's going to say
it how he sees it. And you know, that's just
that's just who BG is. He was, you know, if

(24:18):
you know his his story, he's kind of he started
off pretty rocky, was you know, first round pick that
ended up being a special teams guy early on and
then really having it to look himself at the mirror
and figure out where he wanted to take his career
and then obviously it took off. But he's he is
one of those guys, one of those silly guys that
is just always always held with high regard and ultimate respect.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
You you played with a lot of high end players,
a lot of high end offensive and defensive players. Uh
the time you were in Cleveland. Ever come across anything
like Miles Garrett?

Speaker 2 (24:55):
Never? Never.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
The guy is a freak show. He is an absolute
freak show. He could do anything he wants to do,
a speed bch with power. He's got every move in
the book. And then his band like the guy I
can He's six five sixty six two hundred and eighty
pounds and can touch the ground with his with his
hand on his on a full speed turn like it's unbelievable.

(25:18):
Due to the freak show.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
And the producer, Eric Nordquist, here is a barbecuing snob.
He's incredibly good at it. If I if I'm lucky
enough to get leftovers, they're as good as if they
just came right off the barbecue. So when I told
him last night Jordan's going to come on the show,
of course he got excited for the football taste. He's like,
we got to talk to him about barbecue, and I'm like, okay, Well, Nordo,

(25:41):
here's here's Jordan Hicks, and you know something about him
that I guess I don't know.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Well, I just and I never got to connect with you.
Nice to meet you. By the way, I never got
to connect with you when you were here in Minnesota,
but via the grapevine, I heard that that you had
a love for barbecue. So as part of this, this
transitioning out of the NFL and just such a strong
connection and that you're building with your family now and
finding new things to do, I was just kind of worried, like,

(26:07):
we're not giving up on the Texas barbecue though, right
Like we got we got that anchor grill smoking, we
we got brisket, we got ribs going. I just needed
to make sure that that wasn't something that was going
to be retired along with the football side effects.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Oh absolutely. Now I'm here in Austin right now. Austin, Austin,
Texas is home and Texas barbecue is a staple, right
We've you know, food. Food brings our family together and uh,
you know, whenever, whenever we are together, it is a
there's a smoker going, the barbecue pits rolling, and they
are tortilla's getting made in with our big Mexican family,

(26:42):
So it is it is a lot of fun, you know,
and it's it's actually it gives me more time to
figure it out, right, Like I only had six to
eight months out of the year to truly have time
to be able to sit there and uh tender to
you know, take care of a take care of a
brisket overnight. So now it's I got nothing but time
to do it.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
What what is it that you cook the most?

Speaker 4 (27:04):
Ops?

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Because you mentioned the spare time, man, I mean you
might be eight, nine, ten, twelve, fourteen hours into this
thing to perfect it. What's what's the what's your favorite
meal that you're cooking? You mentioned tortillas, Maybe we got
some some have you done pecanya?

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Maybe a try tip?

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Like what are you absolutely digging when you fire up
that smoker?

Speaker 4 (27:23):
My most is it too for me to be able
to do a brisket and like really take the time
and you know, tend to it and be able to
just have it be you know, because it's such a process,
Like that's my favorite. I get the most excited when
I'm like, oh, we're doing a brisket, right, I'm gonna,
I'm gonna, I'm going to set up, set up the pit.

(27:43):
We're going we're going brisket tonight. Uh, wake up in
the morning, you check on and you're like, hell yeah,
it looks great. So it's uh, it's the process, you know, it's.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
The it's great, the whole the whole.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Situation that goes into it, prepping than the prepping the pit,
and then you know how it comes out like and
it's it's satisfying, man, we we it's it's usually I'm
usually on the grill, so you know, we'll do burgers
and I'll do the chick here and then we'll do
we'll do the rids and all that. But there's nothing
like putting a priston on that thing.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Well, so do you have multiple contraptions?

Speaker 3 (28:18):
I mean like do you have a like a like
an electric grill or a gas grill, a tragger, a smoker.
I mean like, do you have multiple options here with
handling barbecue the right way?

Speaker 2 (28:30):
I've got all three.

Speaker 4 (28:31):
Yeah, we roll all three. We all roll all three.
If I'm if I'm really getting into it, I'm I'm
fine up the pit. But uh, the tragger's easy. The
gas grows easy, like you know, if it's a quick
night that's what we're rolling with.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
That's great.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Well, yeah, but but the challenge, the chase of putting
it in a wood burning smoker. And I don't know
if you've ever experienced this, Jordan, but there's the pleasure
of putting that thing down, cutting it up, and delivering
this to your family. Right then you of course you're
you're hoping for compliments, but even after like eleven out
like an overnight smoke like you were talking about, there's

(29:04):
part of me where it's almost like I can't enjoy
the It's almost like I'm not hungry, Like the journey
as good as the food is, the journey itself was
that was the satisfying moment for me. Have you ever
done that where it's like you made this badass brisket,
you have like two slices, but just watching everyone else eat,
you're like, man, I gotta go take a nap after
this things.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
That's it. That's I mean, that's it. Yeah, the food,
the food, the brisket, you know, everything we prepare brings
the family together, and that seeing the joy, seeing the
kids run around, seeing the family get served, like, that's
that's what it's all about. So I'm right there with you.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
That's sweet. Hey, just a couple of clothes here for
Jordan XS. That was really cool.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
I'm glad we went down that road. Now I'm hungry.
True Strength Awareness. That's something I believe like middle of
last year or something like that. Maybe it was this
year now I think it might have been earlier this year.
True Strength Awareness is something that's important to you. What
is it?

Speaker 4 (29:59):
It is is Yeah, So it's it's my foundation. We
started actually about a year and some change. It was
the end of last off season. And it's my foundation
where we go in and we partner with schools and
we host these nights called True Strength Nights, host events
where we celebrate the special education, the people, the special

(30:22):
needs kids in the schools and something that's passionate for me.
I had the opportunity in high school to be an
aid for a kid who had muscular distripty became one
of my really close friends. Started off thinking, hey, yeah,
I'm a big time football player. I'll go, you know,
change this kid's life or try to help his life
and make it make it more pleasurable. Well, you know

(30:43):
how that goes. You sit down, you look around and
you realize this kid is facing death, theiring death in
the face every single day, and you realize that's where
the name comes from. What true strength is really about, Right,
the things I had to deal with, the things I
had to endure on the football field, and if just
really were small things compared to the things I saw
him do, and he did it with a smile on

(31:04):
his face every day. So that's the story behind it,
that's the heart behind it. We want to give h
the student body the opportunity to connect with the special
education side of the school, and so we bring them together.
We you know, do these events at football games, basketball games,
baseball games, whatever it may be at the time where
we bring the kids out and we just dedicate a

(31:26):
whole night or a whole game to their experience and
we celebrate their abilities rather than focusing on the things
that they may be deficient in. And you know, we
bring in money, we allow aid to their department, and
it is a it is a win win for everybody,
and we absolutely love it. We've we've been doing it,
like I said, for a year and a half and
we're going on year two in the school system, so

(31:48):
it's been a lot of fun so far.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
It's true Strength awareness dot org if you would like
to learn more true strength.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Awareness strength awareness.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Yes, true strength, I'm looking to truth awareness Awareness.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
We're a true strict awareness dot or correct.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Gotcha.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
If you ever need any help with that up here,
let me know because I'll jump at it one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Come down there or whatever.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Lastly, football to close the tush push the brotherly shove.
I've been excited all day to ask you this question,
and I really hope it's not against the rules like
targeting and a defenseless player. I just don't understand on
the tush push. You know, now we've got people laying
down on the field all right. You know it's everybody's
obsessed with this thing, trying to stop it or arguing

(32:33):
it down. Can there be a Jordan Hicks like on
the edge outside one of the tackles, unbalanced or not?
And you can't do it for a touchdown because you
want to stop touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
But you know what, if they're gonna if they're gonna.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Tush push around the fifty, then you can go ahead
and get one, two or three yards. I'm gonna give
you this first down, but you know what's gonna happen.
I got Jordan Hicks on one side and somebody on
the other side. All they're gonna do is run around
the edge and put a helmet in Dallas Goddard's ribs.
All they're gonna do is run around and just smack
the pusher Barkley or a J.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
Brown.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
That's the And it's not targeting a defenseless player because
the player is moving the quarterback. You see what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
I actually one hundred percent of see what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
Why doesn't anybody do that?

Speaker 4 (33:22):
It is you never you never, like peer to peer,
player to player. I'm never out to put a helmet
in somebody's ribs. You know. That's a that's a tough ass.
That's what I get. The physicality and the mentality of that.
That is a tough ask. I think everybody's tired of
the play, you know, because you know, it's it's just

(33:45):
it's hard to think you just run that four times
within the five yard line and you're gonna get a touchdown.
Watching watching them do that three four times in a
row is just it's it's it's annoying. It's not fun
to watch, you know, I don't know, And everybody's searching
for the answer. It's hard because they make a good
point of saying, hey, if you don't like it, then

(34:07):
stop it. But at the same time, you know it's
it's just gotten, it's gotten out of control. So I
don't know what the solution is. I hear you be
I think, I think you've got to find a way
to stop it. Uh. And if that's what it is,
then you know, maybe maybe there's there's a couple of
defenses out there that are willing to take that chance.
But yeah, I don't I don't know. I'm over it too.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Our mutual friend Tom West just walked into the studio
here and and wants us to say hello to you.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
So hello, Hello, what an amand weekend?

Speaker 2 (34:38):
It was, Yeah, fantastic man. He's just really really good.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
As there are a lot of other people here with
the alumni portion of the equation and you're now part
of the alumni man. So God bless you and your family,
and thank you very much for the time. I'm sure
maybe we'll do it some other time later in the season,
but God bless you guys, ma'am, and thanks for everything.
With a true strength awareness dot Org appreciate at you Okay.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Really appreciate you, man, great sitting here this weekend.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
See yeah, Jordan Hicks, former linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings.
Our final segment is next all right, fun show today

(35:37):
at twin Citi's Orthopedics Performance Center. It started with Minnesota
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch and it will conclude with
Vike's Bites provided by.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Thousand Hills Lifetime grazed grass fed beefy.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
We'll make it Vike Bite due to timing, Yeah, simply enough,
we're gonna hear from the head coach.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
We'll maybe get some clarity on the quarterback spot into
Thursday night.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
But I was watching that game last night.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
You ever permit yourself, whether it's Sam Darnold and what
he's doing in Seattle and Daniel Jones and Indy, and
you're just thinking about kind of the rats nest of
health that we've had to deal with here in Minnesota,
and it's just kind of sit back.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
It's like, Man, I didn't.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Appreciate what Sam did when he was here enough, or
Daniel Joe just thinking about the development trek that so
many players, I mean, now it's a measurable amount of
players that are finding success. Yeah, and it just I'm
hitting me. It's just I need my guys healthy, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
I'm just gonna leave it like this.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
As you would know as well as anybody in my life,
I'm not the most argumentative type.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Yeah, I'll either acquis and if I'm wrong, I'll say
I'm sorry, or if I'm right then you know, then
we'll just move on.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
And I it's my opinion, Okay.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
I actually argued with somebody last week off the radio
about a perceived miscape made by this team not bringing
Darnald back.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Forget the money and.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
The fortifying of the village and everything. I'm like, let's
wait till week eighteen against the Niners. Yeah, before we
re engage in this conversation. Here we go, and we'll
see what it looks like for us. Sam in the
Seattle Seahawks love all of you, Thank you for listening.
Fuck you tomorrow, Bye bye.
