Speaker 1 (00:00):
News from Minnesota Vikings practice yesterday. A certain player battling
a demon in his neck, practiced in a limited fashion.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
But tanks on fire. It's n Kinkle style vent Kinkle style.
Jody brought to fan Gikle down.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
And before touchdown in and rubn Kingkle's career and he
read Daniel Jones like a book.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
They dipted and they paid for it. Picked off by
fan king dear sign of the fifty tonsiline forty forty three.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Day show.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
They didn't know, now they know.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Routing the bloc root.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Every play, every day.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
It's Don Ginkle Star, don Kinkle stop. Thank It's Donkinkle Star.
It's Don stop, It's Donkinkle Stars. This is the nine
(01:42):
to noon radio show and a Happy Thursday to you.
Football feasting with a Nordo and Alec tomorrow at Buffalo
Wild Wings Monticello. We mentioned one injury report, one bet
perhaps settled, maybe for just one game or one half,
but who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
But the gink, the gink, the gig was on fire
in a limited fashion of practice yesterday. It clearly has
tickled the fancy of mad producer and good morning.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
Yeah, good morning. The closer that he gets to returning,
the more excited I get. That's why I just wanted
to bring Van Ginkel style back into open a Thursday.
As it ain't perfect, It's not all healthy according to
the A plan back in August doesn't exactly look like
it should be in mid October. However, bright times, good
(02:29):
times on the horizon here is that injury report looks
markedly different than it did even two weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Pa, I'm loving it.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Next up the Champs, and I understand why you're loving it.
I mean, shoot, the last time the devoted saw the
boys at home, they were embarrassing the Cincinnati Bengals, and
these fans are going to be fired up to watch
their favorite squad pluck some wounded birds because next on
the doc hit the World Champions. Studs Jalen Carter and
(02:57):
Jordan Davis went full at their first practice report for
the Birds. Yeah, Van Ginkle goes limited, taking a baby
step in his quest to defeat the demon in his neck.
And the kid was out there throwing passes but was limited.
Third and one from the Bear's fourteen McCarthy out of
the shotgun, milking a three point lead. It is a
(03:18):
run pass option McCarty takes off to the.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Right stand to the test stunner steps at the five touchdown.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Peace JJ McCarthy, and he runs for a Vikings touchdown
and the Minnesota Vikings after that fourteen yard touchdown gallup,
sending fans home here at Soldier Field. JJ McCarthy limited
with the Vikings first practice report. Ah but alas the
(03:50):
practice report included more names, Thank you, bizmar There was
a big fat bald word that read full next to
this guy's name. Thirty eight, thirty seven, thirty six, thirty
five Wentz On second and five from the Cleveland twelve.
He works out of the shotgun, takes the snap, four
man rush, crows to the right side, cut cussop Jordon Annison.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
He's the minute of the match.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Henny gives the Minnesota Vikings a twenty to seventeen lead.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Thank you, Bizmarck.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I'd expect some news later involving the Minnesota Vikings quarterback
situation into the game against him. Birds wentz full, McCarthy limited,
Renard didn't slip, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's
news about the quarterback spot later today, and that very
well could be for just this week. And very well
could be shorter than that if like Jalen Carter decides
(04:51):
to heat up and belly flops on Carson Wentz's wounded wing. Now,
this quarterback bet, this quarterback bet may be settled for
a day, it may be settled for a week. But
behind Carson, would it be jj? Would it be McCarthy?
If McCarthy is limited and Brosmer is not included on
(05:15):
said bullet points of pain, then I mean then Brosmer
would be minus one fifty minus won fifty to be
the backup against Quinnon Mitchell who has a swoon over
his hamming but made it too limited in the Eagles
(05:38):
practice report. So all of this still bears following, but earlier,
I'd say twenty five and a half hours of twenty
five and a half hours ago, maybe twenty two and
a half hours ago, Nordo dropped in something from a
podcast where it seemed like Jonathan Grenard spilled the proverbial beans,
and we got all excited. Then the report came out
(06:01):
one guy was full, one guy was limited. If the
other guy goes limited, limited, limited, and the University of
Minnesota product who was undrafted goes nothing, nothing, nothing If
it's Wentz. Does it matter who backs him up? I
think it does because of the wounded wing and Jalen
Carter and Jordan Davis doing belly flops on quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
You think I'm seeing it? Clearly? I think you are.
But just at a base level for a moment, may
I celebrate?
Speaker 3 (06:30):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Wednesday? Thursday? Excuse me? Nine oh eight?
Speaker 6 (06:34):
We don't have to answer or discuss who's going to
start on Sunday at US Banks?
Speaker 7 (06:39):
Dam What do you mean?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Well, while the while the talker will not end, I
think the bet is settled. I think the bet is settled.
While the talker won't end.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
In terms of when number nine comes back, that'll that'll
regenerate itself from Vikings fan line on Sunday afternoon into
a Monday after hopefully you'll win over the Eagles into
an early Thursday night game against the Chargers, so that
talker won't end, but just even for a couple of days,
just to go into Sunday noon US Bank Stadium potentially
(07:13):
pivoting doors wide open, a beautiful October breeze wafting its
way into a beautiful stadium full of fans ready to
beat them Birds. What's up with Saquan, et cetera. We
don't have to go in or spend any more time
going Yeah, it'd be cool if JJ played this weekend.
The limited capacity combined with the consistency of the coach.
(07:34):
If the kid himself says ankle ain't right yet, then
we know exactly what we're going to see on Sunday.
And I'm just excited that at this point of the day,
at this point of the week, we can just settle
in and now, what does Carson look like battling that
shoulder against Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Quinnon, Mitchell, some makuda
(07:56):
cat on the back end. Let's take advantage of the
second round rookie still getting the legs under him in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
What's all that going to look like on Sunday against
the Eagles?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Now, Quenyon Mitchell is the best corner back for the
Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
He has a swoon over his hammy.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Yeah, and it was highly unlikely off the reports from Friday,
Sunday and a little bit Monday, that he would be
able to make this dance all right, So the Eagles
put out a practice report yesterday and said talented corner
who has said swoon over his hammy was listed as
(08:33):
limited on their injury report. Here's a pro prediction. Corners
with hammies on a fast surface against numbers one, three
and eighteen don't play. Nice try, beloved birds, nice try,
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
So that's the bet.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
The black Chips have been paid for a day, and
now we get excited for the feast tomorrow and what
will be an amazing, frenzied, lively atmosphere at Buffalo Wild Wings, Monticello.
What do we all think about that Wentz versus his
former squad, the champs on a two game battle, two
(09:15):
two game negative battle. You got aj Saquon and Jalen
perhaps not liking each other, and if you strike them
fast and furiously, these birds might not punch back. Now,
that doesn't mean there's no disrespect to the world champions.
This comes with nothing but respect for the Philadelphia Eagles
(09:37):
football operation. But we're not even at the midway point
of the season and you have people grading on each
other this early in the equation, a division rival who
just beats you on the horizon. The bye week after that,
bank accounts are fat and you have no time to
do anything during the practice week. So that's why you
(09:59):
think about the and you got that shiny World Championship ring.
You punch these guys early and open up a couple
scores on them, and they may not punch back. So
what do we think about all that? Now, here's the
deal for the Minnesota Viking. Don't drop it, don't drop
the football, don't fall start it. Let's eliminate the pre
(10:21):
snap stuff. Put eighteen on some middlefield plays and watch
that man run.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Like the wind.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Major major, major pressure, however, is on a few Vikings
in this game, specifically in handling Saquon Barkley. We need
to discuss that, and we will do so with Nacho
liber and Liber at about ten o'clock. Belove it, Baldy.
Brian Baldinger handicaps this one for us, plus some more

Speaker 6 (12:03):
Hills check out a bit of an audio blitz for you,
vickspid style on a Thursday morning. We'll start with a
few that I found from the head coach, and I
was talking last segment really not ingest at all. I'm
happy to feel very confident about who is starting this weekend,
not that the plan has changed, but I know who's
(12:24):
going to be under center for the Purple against the Eagles.
I think the head coach is super happy to know
as well, or at least not have to answer any
more questions about who's going to be started.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Ready, think stand is it as far as you're starting
to be for Sundrin Kevin.
Speaker 8 (12:40):
They stand in the same place they did Monday when
I answered that question.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
It was a different version of Kevin O'Connell with that
press conference yesterday. I mean right from the start, first
and foremost, it began about twelve thirteen, fourteen minutes late. Secondly,
I can't recall Kevin walking up to a microphone and
paraphrasing basically saying, all right, guys, what do you got? Yeah,
and then, because normally he'll start talking about something a
(13:07):
little bit, then that question was posed and I didn't
in any way think it was a snarky response by
the head coach, but it's antithetical to his normal responses,
which the over under on the words is about two
twenty five.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Yeah, I think that one had about fifteen words.
Speaker 6 (13:23):
Well, I can actually, I mean with the way you
know in the radio business, like we just have kind
of an inherent unconscious feel of what a break feels like, right, Like,
we know what breaks about five minutes. I mean, we
can eat lunch in a break, we can go to
the bathroom on a break, we can do a lot
of things on a break. But I can also set
my watch to Kevin O'Connell's responses. I know, as soon
(13:46):
as he's asked a question and he starts talking, we're
good for about seventy seconds ish, ye minimum and maybe
ninety I mean maybe we're treated to a full ninety
of the head coach's response. That was about seven And
you're right when he typically begins pressers PA, it will
be kind of a summary, all right, looking forward to
(14:06):
a good practice and just kind of hits you with
a few bullets on the front end and any questions.
Wes Phillips, of all people, he's one of those guys though.
He's just like, all right, what do you got?
Speaker 8 (14:16):
What do you got to?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
TJ?
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Hawkinson, this, Blake Brandell that, and they move forward. But
it sounds like the coach is ready to find some
stability at the QB spot, if you will, and to
just kind of work through the subterfusion get to the
final answer.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I think he wanted to get through the practice because
the injury report from Wednesday had not been released at
that time. Yeah, so he knows whatever goes into somebody
practicing in limited fashion, he knows that's coming for one
of the guys.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
He knows that there's going to be a full listing
for the other guy.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Indeed, but you still got to do it, and you know,
you got to make sure somebody doesn't topple or stumble
and fall on the left shoulder. Somebody doesn't, you know,
take a bad step on the bad ankle, than a
limited becomes a d n P or a fall becomes limited.
So it plays into to what we said yesterday. And
I'm certainly not speaking for the head coach, but there
(15:11):
are a lot of frustrating things out of his control
that just keep coming at him and the team. And
I sense that a little bit yesterday certainly not the
way things were at the end of the Cleveland game.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Bikes.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Bit's more more of an audio blitz today nine to noon,
and we'll continue with the head coach. Hey, you know
this snapcount thing with darisaw can we see him just
kind of going full boar.
Speaker 8 (15:35):
You know that was more of a just through the
dialogue with Christian of that one individual game. But yes,
I feel like he'll be in a good spot.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
Oh okay, So can we potentially just say no more
snapcount Sunday afternoon? Potentially game winning drive team needs points,
whether it's getting into the end zone or it's from
the foot of Will Reicherd. We'll striker, Maybe we'll see
number seventy one out there and we won't have to
worry about Justin's school moving over to that left side.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Sounds like progressing in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Mister Darisaw and O'Neill went limited, so did Donovan Jackson.
Jurgens went full despite Brandell playing in the in the
Browns game, but with with Darisow. That also plays into
the layering of the the man who run, who runs
the team, the head coach to who much is given
much as expected. He wants to win every single game,
(16:31):
of course, puts a lot of pressure on himself. But
if the way I heard the totality of the answer
that that part right there was a little short. The
totality of the answer to the question made it sound
like there are times that he legitimately doesn't know you know,
whether Darisol's going to make a fall game or not
(16:53):
make a fall game. Now, you know, I may have
speculated inaccurately with what I saw at Handbury manor Chris
Cooper and Keith Carter, the offensive line coaches were working
so much and so intently with Walter Rouse that when
Darisol left school went right to left and Rouse came
(17:15):
in and played right right tackle.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
I assume that was the plan, but it might not
have completely been the plan.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
So it You know, a lot of this involves how
Christian feels, how Christian, how much he believes in his
in his wounded knee, meshing with what he knows he
needs to do against somebody like Miles Garrett. And it
also you know, it could involve a tap out, or
it could involve I'm good the rest of the season.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
It's another layer of the confusion. Indeed, bikes bites last
one from the coach. You know that Saquon barkleycat, he's well,
he's pretty good.
Speaker 8 (17:51):
First and ten at your own thirty and he's crossing
the goal line. If you're not exactly where you need
to be fitting the run. Second level players showing up
setting just playing the cutback. It's it's it's one of
those teams where they're really good at the things that
they do, and you've got to be really good at
some fundamental, simple things on the chuck board, but you
(18:11):
got to you gotta do them, and you got to
make sure that you consistently do them every play because
he can change it in a heartbeat with one touch.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
You know the you know yesterday, I need some I
need JJ McCarthy in my life, Excited for him to
get healthy, Excited for him to be back on the
field at some point from this morning. And I playing
Bank Ginkle. I need Van Ginkle in my life. I
need number forty three to be back on the field.
Could this be a Cashman style type game in terms
of trying to perfect those fits and find their way
(18:42):
to some positive answers In regard to Saquon Barkley, Yeah,
fair question because in the two losses this year, the
Vikings have allowed right around three hundred and fifty rushing yards.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
I mean, Bijon has a little MVP to him, so
it's not like we're just going to forget that one.
But nevertheless, that was like about fifty. The gain well,
that's a problem. Well, the gain Well bit, it's you know,
when Baldy joins Brian Baldinger about fifteen minutes from now,
fifteen to twenty minutes from now, we're going to talk
about something the Steelers are doing. And they did very
(19:15):
well to the Minnesota Vikings using six to seven tight
end Darnell Washington, then extra offensive lineman seventy four I
think his name is Spencer Anderson. So they in essence
created seven offensive linemen. And that's what you need to
do to get Kenneth Gainwell on one hundred yard game.
That's what you need to do to get this rookie
(19:37):
Caleb Johnson to fall forward for even three yards.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah, I mean, my man can't get out of his way.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
But he had a decent game against the Vikings because
running against the Vikings is what teams are doing. Cashman returns.
That helps. How much will it help without Van Ginkel
if he doesn't play, if you're limited, you're fifty to fifty.
We'll see if he'll probably be limited the course of
the week and maybe questionably to the game. I'm not
sure I can count on him for this game. But
(20:03):
like you said, you need gink in your life, and
the gink the gink. The gink was on the field.
So that's a good start. When when Lever joins in
thirty five minutes, the the A topic to the game
potentially could be this quarterback situation we've discussed since the
Cleveland game because it's the quarterback, all right, so it
has a topic to it, no matter if your Spencer
(20:24):
Rattler or Carson Wentz. But right behind that and potentially
the A topic is something that you played from that
press conference, and I'm really really.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Glad you played it.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
It's Joshua Mattellis, THEO Jackson, Harrison Smith and all corners.
That's what That's what O'Connell was talking about when he
was talking about the second level, the second layer. If
your safeties and your corners take bad angles on Saquon
and the Eagles run a lot of plays that have
(20:56):
designed cutbacks, so Saquon busting out to the left, but
they know five yards into it, there's going to be
a hard cut to the right, and they're going to
have like Grant Klcata if he plays Goddard's decent at it.
An offensive lineman, of course, would be good, Well, they
have those guys there to block your guys, and that's
how Saquon gets loose on these design cutbacks. So with Mattelis, Jackson,
(21:22):
Hitman and the corners, I mean, you can tell O'Connell's
all over it already that you can draw it up
the way it's supposed to be, the way it's supposed
to look. And we've seen the tendency eighty two percent
of the time with Saquan, But if the eighteen percent
is different and you're not ready, he gets to the
house from seventy and he may only have three rushing
(21:43):
touchdowns this year, and he's not cracking one hundred yards
and things don't look the same with them. They can
in one or two runs, and those are the types
of things that get teams like the Eagles engaged super
long runs where the bench and the kids go crazy
and now all of a sudden they become engaged. This
(22:03):
part right here, with the tackling with the secondary guys,
this is a vital, vital facet to winning this game.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Bites, Bites, thank you thousand Hills.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
This popped in my head while you were talking about
Saquon talking about the fit and everything that goes into
the run game and teams having success with us. Hey,
you mentioned, you know the two losses. Well, even quin
Shawn Judkins in the Browns were finding their way around
the field on us on the ground. Specifically to that end,
from our point of view, Mason Zay Scott love them
(22:35):
rooting for him on Sunday. Among all the people that
have come back, one name that we did not see
in terms of opening practice windows and such for our team,
Aaron Jones. Did that surprise you at all? Or in
terms because you know whatever and Mason better? Maybe between
the tackles. I mean, we've talked at length, at nauseum
in fact, really about the differences between the two and
(22:57):
what's cool when both of them are on the field.
I don't think it can be understated that or overstated
that we've really missed. I think Aaron Jones in some capacity,
he has not opened the window. He was not part
of the practice, He is still not in the mix.
I just wonder what we're missing there.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
I believe his window opens next week, the twenty one
day window, so he's not eligible to.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
Play in this game. Oh that's my bad.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Then I caught Aaron when I got to practice yesterday
running on a far field, and I was like, who
invited secretariat to practice?
Speaker 4 (23:27):
I mean, holy cow, did he look like it? He's
played good.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
I'm gonna lay it out like this, I'll be surprised
if Aaron Jones doesn't.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Well, surprised is too strong.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
I would with the Chargers game that short week, terrorism assuming,
and I'm pretty sure I'm right on this. With his
window opening next week, then I you know, I mean,
I'm not going to be you know, Joe Q doctor
David Chow trying to pretend like I know what I'm
talking about from a medical standpoint, even though I'm not
on Twitter like that doctor. It's what I saw yesterday
(24:01):
look pretty good to me. So I would quasi count
on him for the Chargers game. No, okay, that's that's sweet.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Then, I for some reason, I thought he was available,
if healthy, to start this week. But next week let's go, well,
let's get Aaron Jones back. And that leads me to
the kid QB talking about his ankle.
Speaker 8 (24:19):
Akl is you know it's it's getting there. I wouldn't
say it's one hundred percent right now, but you know,
we're striving every day to get there as fast as possible.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
The talker that emerge you think you think we're bored
talking about this. Did you hear that kid right there?
Oh yeah, I mean the kid's vivacious and as pop
and he asked play yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
And it's it's his voice just tailed up at the
end he started talking about it.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
So, while I think we have some finality in terms
of the Eagles game, the talker that will emerge Pa,
whether it's at the Feast or next week into the
Chargers game, is going to be well, okay, if needs
to be fully healthy, let's hope it is.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
But he also needs a full week of practice. Short
weeks are weird.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
So you're gonna start getting the talker down the line
of well, if he couldn't go this week and next
week's a short week against the Chargers, it might be
baby By and it might be Kitties game early November.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Your thoughts on that, I think I think you know
fellow media members would agree with me on this. For though,
you know when the parts of practice they slash we
watch is McCarthy when you watch him walk And I
noticed this at at Hanbury Manor and he wasn't even
set to play in the Browns game.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
That there's a little hitch in the gidea. I mean
it's not, you know, it's not. It's not. Old schoolers
will understand this.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Red Fox Fred Sandford from a bone down the way
he used to walk in Sanford and Son. It's not
that off kilter. But it's not. It's it's not just
a completely ten of ten stride. So he you know,
he's still favoring that ankle a little bit in my opinion,
even when he's just walking around. So when it comes
(25:56):
to limited and needs a full week of practice, not
exactly sure how close to full he would.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Be, but I can.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
You know it's a high ankle spring, so you know
those generally three four, five, six weeks to be safe
with it, and you know they're pretty close to that now.
But the the the part for me with this game
coming up, that I'm starting to noodle on a fair
amount included in the open with the quarterbacks is all right,
(26:25):
So Wentz goes prohibitively favored to start because of the
practice report yesterday. Odds can change after a practice report today.
But if McCarthy is limited limited limited questionable, and Brozmer
is fine fine, fine, fine, who's your backup to Carson
wentzeh Because if you have a wounded left shoulder that
(26:46):
has caused the coach to talk about it several times
up to this game, you fall on that bad boy,
or you run for a first down and you dive
and you get that Texas second round rookie safety playing
out of his mind and he hits him the wrong way.
A well, the backup, yeah, I mean it could be Throwsmer.
It got to be at us Bank Stadium, packed house.
(27:08):
Haven't seen him since they killed Cincinnati against Carter and Davis.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
If you're if you're sticking to the plan, I think
Brosmer has to be the backup. I think that's probably
the right answer could be for this Philly game. Speaking
of the shoulder, here's Carson.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Feel good, feeling good? Yeah I'm not feeling good.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Yeah, it's just one of those things just played through
and I'm feeling feeling pretty good right now.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
He's feeling good, Okay.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
I think I bet you it's it's it's smarts, It stings,
it probably hurts like hell, but he's a warrior. Love
him or hate him, Carson Wentz is a tough dude.
That's how they raise him in Big Mark in Bismarck.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
Nordo.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
That's what the seven O ones are telling me on
the text line.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Going with that big Mark. But but he needs to slide.
It's definitely something that you think about. It's just in
the heat of the moment. How do you think, How
does your mind work? What instincts take over? And so
it's always something I come back and watch the film,
it's like that was probably dumb. I gotta I gotta
be better, I gotta learn. I hate to say it,
but I've been saying that to myself for ten years now.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
He daggered the touchdown call because when the ACL got
messed up at La Memorial Coliseum. Yeah, he was diving
for the end zone. One of those points. He was
running one of those points. It's how they raise him
in Bismarck. You say, not so much, man, Dan, I
say both. That's how they raise him in Bismarck. And
(28:27):
so he just said, I've been saying that to myself
for ten years. Close circuit to Carson Wentz, it's probably
not going to change. Probably not. And because you don't
want somebody thinking about, you know, whether they need to slide.
You know, you can't think about that during the course.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Of the run.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Well, we talk about people making business decisions, right, Like
maybe a running back that jumps out of bounds Downvin
Cook maybe better at avoiding that last tackle. He would
concede maybe an extra yard and get out of bounds.
Adrian Peterson, he wants that extra yard. He wants that fight.
Everybody on the freaking team for one more yard. Now,
(29:03):
I heard Lieber talking about this with the power trip.
Actually in relation to that audio clip you just heard,
how do you change the instincts, the reflexive nature of
a personality. So if he if you don't want him
thinking about it, then what you saw on the field.
Sadly it ended in an acl injury that changed the
(29:25):
trajectory of his career during that seventeen season. Clearly it
affected him with the shoulder here, but those are maybe
also some of the traits that when he's feeling good,
he's going nine to nine on drives and he's pure
instincts and he's finding Addison for six.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
With a bad shoulder, I mean, with it, you know,
depending on what medically they did to it up to
that possession. But i'd have to imagine it hurt close
to as badly as it possibly can hurt during that situation.
But you have the thrill of the game, the adrenaline
given from the crowd, so there for it masks it
(30:01):
to a certain extent. But you know, and this is
under the assumption that that Wentz starts on Sunday. It's,
you know, the closer we got to that Browns game
with Miles Garrett, Malika Collins, Mason, Graham and all those
guys were very physical front seven. It's it's you know,
(30:23):
before i' vetited it out with with some people, I
was like, you got to throw to win this game?
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Okay, well, what do you mean We're gonna have three
fists of the lie.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I'm like, okay, Well, then that means Hawkinson and Oliver
need to be extra offensive lineman and Mason needs to
pass protect. And you put three guys out in patterns Naylor,
Addison and Jefferson, and over the length of the game,
Greg Newsom cannot keep up with any of them. Denza
Ward is really good, but still is a really good
(30:52):
ten of ten times against eighteen. The safeties are good downhill,
especially delp It against the run, so I laid the
over under on Carson Wentz passes in the Cleveland game
at twenty seven and a half, and he went over it.
I can't get a feel at this stage of the
equation as to what the game shape should be offensively
(31:13):
against this defense. I don't like their edge pass rushers,
the UCHA bit the former Giant. I mean they got
three guys on whom they're counting defensively who are unrestricted
free agent pickups from the New York Giants.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Yeah, last year's New York Giants.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
So yeah, o Jalari's never lived up to his heregether
and they got this Patrick Johnson who they're playing. So
isn't a Dori Jackson for Yeah, bam, thank you make
it for And he's been hideous as at the corner
spot A Dory was supposed to be their third corner,
but now he's one of their top two unless Quinnyon
Mitchell returns off that hamstring. Kylie Ringo is a Georgia
(31:50):
cat on whom they counted to take a big, big
step this year. No step, and he hasn't right and
you can't you can't single cover these guys coming at him,
and that they have to know that.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Oh, I guess we'll figure it out. Jim Schwartz didn't
figure it out and he got beat late with Jordan Addison.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
How about Addison running routes against Perry Nickerson on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Right, I mean, if Nickerson sees the field, he won't
but I don't think you will. But nevertheless, games see,
I think this is a game you need to throw,
is I is? That's what the Vikings do best.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
They throw.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And when you start to see plays with Jefferson middle
of the field catching at ten to eleven from the
line of scrimmage, making it twenty six to forty, that's
the O'Connell offense attacking middle zones, putting the best guys
in run after catch positions. Yeah, so it's I don't
I don't really have an over under for like passes
in this game, but I think for I think you can.
(32:45):
I mean, the Giants just scored thirty some odd points
against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Vikings offense is better
than the New York Giants and quite honestly is not
even close.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
I will say though, that the Giants put up a
buck seventy two on the ground against Wow and the Eagle.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Defense is given up.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
I think it's for six for seven a carry, and
so I mean, but once you play that, we know
that you know ETCA games, so flow, and the fact
we have a certain head coach that loves throwing.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
All of that included.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
But I'm just curious, Like you said, you can get
around the gym autum, I think through the air in spots.
This will be the same way that we talked about
the Browns game, the way that we've talked about others.
Some kind of efficiency in some respects doesn't have to
be in mass forty carries. I think the run game
is going to play into this. We need Mason to run,
and we need Mason to hold out to the freaking ball.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Brian Baldinger of the Baldy's Breakdowns ILK via Twitter. He's
an elite though and watching mind, former offensive lineman in
the NFL, and he calls games for the likes of
NFL Network, Box and so on. He'll be in town
this weekend doing national radio, So let's get the takes
on the Eagles, the Vikings, and much more from beloved
(33:57):
Baldy around the corner. It's a Thursday at FM one
hundred point three kfa M.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
This is nine to noon Favorites.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Brian Baldinger at Baldy, NFL is where you find him
via the tweet machine. He works with NFL Network, calls
games for Fox, and we'll be at us Bank Stadium
Sunday doing national radio for Eagles and Vikings. Baldy, it's
Paul Allen. Thanks for taking time to help us, brother.
How are things?
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Thanks are good, Paul.
Speaker 8 (34:23):
It's going to be with you.
Speaker 7 (34:24):
Good to hear your voice. Looking forward to my trip
to the Twin Cities here this weekend.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Yeah, I love our sideline chats, you know when the
players are filtering onto the field and they start doing
some things and asking you about offensive linemen and stuff.
And let's start here outside of Vikings and Eagles. This
is off a tweet I saw yesterday at Baldy, NFL.
At Baldy, NFL. I'm with you on Steelers tight end
Darnell Washington. Man when we when we were in Dublin
(34:53):
and they used him and went unbalanced with tackle Spencer
Anderson Kenneth Gamewell looked like Ranco Harrison under those circumstances.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
What a what a specimen?
Speaker 7 (35:04):
Darnell Washington is that was the best game Kenneth gang
Weell ever had too and the Steelers found a run
game that day. And he is I mean he's a
he's a lean three hundred and fifteen pounds, you know.
I mean, he's bigger than more tackles in this league.
But he can run too, and he caught a big
pass the other day in a Steelers victory. So I
(35:25):
agree with you, Paul, like I feel like he's underutilized,
but he is getting on the field more and more,
and I think he's going to be a bigger part
of that offense.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
What do you think of the Eagles? Just paint with
a broad verbal brush, Baldy. What do you think of
the Eagles?
Speaker 7 (35:39):
Well, they've been a seventeen point offense, Paul, you know
the last two weeks, but they really have struggled all
year long. I mean, go back to the opening game
of the season against the Cowboys. That are lightning delay
in that game and you know it was delayed with
about five minutes ago in the third quarter, they score
point the rest of the game. They were losing to
the Rams twenty six to seven going into the four quarter,
(36:00):
and you know, pull a miracle and you know, block
a kick at the end to win the game. I
mean they've been they really kind of struggled, and you know,
against the last time they played against the Giants a
week ago on Thursday, I guess two weeks ago tonight,
you know, they gave up five touchdowns and they didn't
score in the second half. And so they've they really
struggled offensively for most of the season, and now because
(36:23):
of some injuries, they began to really struggle defensively as well.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Baldy, if the Vikings jump the Eagles, do you think
they And I'm not disrespecting the champions. I have a
lot of respect for them, but at this stage of
the season, if they get jumped on the road, I
just wonder what the punchbacks is going to be. And
I asked because they had nothing that they had no
punchback a week ago when.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Trying to run down the New York Giants.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
What do you think, Well, I've seen this collapse before, Paul,
two years ago. You know, they lost six games in
a row in the second half of the season, and
they couldn't get out of them. They couldn't get out
of the downards spiral they were in. They talked about it,
they had their meetings, They do all the things the
teams that are struggling to do, and the Eagles have
begun that process. They've had ten days to get ready
(37:10):
for this one on Sunday. But and they're doing all
that right now. But I mean, they've got to come
out and execute. They they have not run the ball
well at all, Paul. You know, I believe Saque is
as good as any running back in this league. He
was last year, and they have so many negative plays
right now. Forty percent of their runs with Saque this
year have gone for a yard or less, so they're
(37:32):
not really moving people up front. They've had some injuries
up there, but I think it starts with the run game,
and you know, if they can get that cranked up
and get some big runs that were used to see
them from Saque. If they do that, I think they
can come out of this and they can, you know,
regain their respect and start winning some games.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
At Baldy NFL via Twitter, and I was kind enough
about ten minutes ago to post a clip and on
which he's analyzing a play from the Vikings Browns game.
And actually, Baldy, once you put up there with Jefferson running,
I believe, or was that the cam Akers pass?
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Yeah, I put both those up ball, yeah, okay, Well.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
With Jefferson running when he when he motioned to the backfield,
they went off set. I right that that was like
my favorite offensive play of the game because it was
just so creative and so different. With Darisaw moving to
right tackle, so they go unbalanced. You put Jefferson in
the backfield, you see the Browns pointing at people and
running all running willy nilly.
Speaker 7 (38:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
I know you have a lot of respect for the
creativity the Vikings offer up offensively, right.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 7 (38:35):
And you know, just that particular play, you know it
caught my attensible. I know it did yours in the
booths as well. But you know Cleveland is a really
heavy press man coverage team. Well, if you put justin
Jefferson to motion them to the to the tailback position,
it's kind of hard to go press him. And you
know he came, you know, out of the backfield flat
and Carson found me. He was wide open and he's like, okay,
(38:58):
you know it's just a play to shake him loose,
get him the ball, let him know that he's a
big part of the game playing, which he always is,
but you get him an easy completion like that, Like
I don't see a lot of teams doing that to
wide receivers that, you know, to get their guys involved
in the game, let them know that, you know, we're
going to be feeding you all day long. And I
just thought it was a little you know, creative flare
by Kevin on that particular play. And then obviously the
(39:20):
half back pass from cam akers Oliver you know, was
opening touchdown to the game. And that's a good defense.
You know, You've got to find different ways to, you know,
to move the ball against that defense in order to
because they're really good at what they do.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
So what about the Eagles defense, I mean, Carter and
Davis obviously handfuls bond Dejene Blanken Ship's really done a
good job with his career being undrafted from Middle Tennessee State.
But from a Corners standpoint, you know, quinnyon mitchell I
thought his hamstring situation was kind of bad, but they
listed it listed him limited in practiced.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
I don't know, it's a fast surface.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
You got Nailor who's four three with Addison and Jefferson,
that just doesn't seem good for a bad hammy. So
the secondary and edge rushing by the Eagles is is
there a problem they're having right now?
Speaker 7 (40:09):
Yeah, yeah, there is a problem, Paul. You know, Jayleen
Carter has played four games. He didn't play in the
last game, didn't play in the first game because of
the suspension. But you know, he doesn't have he doesn't
have a sack, He's got very few quarterback hits. He
really hasn't been the same player that we're used to
seeing in those first two years in this league. So
we'll see what happens. He without the heel injury, and
(40:32):
he's had a bad shoulder, So I don't want to
say the injuries aren't a part of it, but he
doesn't look like the same players to this point. Now
when he's healthy, he is a handful. Quinnon went out
in that game against the Giants, and they've had problems
at left corner to begin with, Paul. They've They've played
a lot of different guys over there, Keey, Ringo Dorr, Jackson,
Ja Curry and you know Bennett. They've played a bunch
(40:53):
of different guys. Nobody's really nailed down that spot. And
so when Quinnon went out, they were really susceptible, and
so they need him in there. He's he's their best
defensive back. He's a very good corner. They need him
in there to kind of hold things down a little bit.
But they'd struggled at the left cornerback position all year.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Balding as a former offensive lineman, and the Vikings in
London against Cleveland in that situation, what four fifths of
the regular offensive line was down. Justin's school had to
move from right to left tackle for the fourth quarter.
The left guard was undrafted from Wisconsin, and center Blake
Brandell played his first game ever at any level at
(41:33):
center and they won the game.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Ever seen anything like that?
Speaker 7 (41:38):
Well, Joe, I mean I had to go find out
who Joe Shuber was, you know, when I saw him
out there. But you know, it's going on in this league.
I saw the Cowboys win a game two weeks ago
with four backup offensive linemen. But it's it's where we're
at this league right now. I tell people that if
you want to build a team correctly, you can't have
(41:58):
enough offensive and defense to linemen in this league. You
better stack them on the practice squad. You better train
them on Sundays when you have a chance to get
them out on the field. You've got to get these
guys ready ball. We saw a bunch of injuries to
the Vikings in the offensive line last year. We've seen
it already this year. You've got to get the guys
ready to go. Otherwise it's just a convenient excuse that, well,
(42:21):
you know, we didn't. We didn't protect very well today,
we didn't run the ball very well today because of
the guys that we had in there. It's just not
an excuse anymore. With there's many linemen that are going
down in this league.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Very fair time for two more for Brian Baldinger NFL
Network National Radio this weekend Eagles and Minnesota Vikings. He
also calls games for Fox at bald the NFL v
X Packers. When you watch Jordan Love, what do you see?
Speaker 7 (42:49):
I see an elite arm and good decision making and
enough enough good mobility without going crazy back there. I
feel like he's got a good pocket, presence of when
to move and where to move. So I see all
those abilities. I think, you know, he just obviously he's
(43:10):
had some injuries. He's missed some time over the last
two years, and that's never helpful to any young quarterback.
But I see a guy that has as much talent
at that position as almost anybody playing the game today.
Speaker 4 (43:22):
What about Darnold with Seattle, what do you see?
Speaker 7 (43:26):
He's playing amazing right now, Paul. He really is the
same thing that you saw last year with Kevin and
the Vikings. He's doing that in Seattle right now. And
you know, suddenly a guy like Jackson Smith and Jigba
who we kind of like, said well, he's gonna be
a good slot receiver is a pure number one receiver
because Sam is consistently getting him the ball. Hit him
(43:47):
on a sixty one yard strike against Jacksonville last week,
beautiful throw. But you're seeing everything. You're seeing movement, decision making,
good arms, streat arm strength, and accuracy. And right now
he's got Seattle tension to go win that division this year.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
What about the Buffalo Bills. What do you think is
ailing the Bills?
Speaker 7 (44:07):
Well, they've got a bad run defense for years now, Paul.
We've seen that show up against Baltimore and what they've
done to them. But you know last week you saw
Monday night, I mean Atlanta ran for two hundred yards
you saw the eighty one yard touchdown run by Vjon Robinson.
They're not very good in the run defense, They're missing
some guys. Matt Malone goes out, they're not the same defense.
(44:29):
And then in the secondary they've got issues at cornerback
and that's kind of around the league right now. And
then you know Josh Allen as good as he is.
I mean, they got held to fourteen points in that game, Paul,
and so that's really what the change in that game is.
That was a close game, twenty one to fourteen, and
Buffalo just could not, you know, must that drive to
(44:52):
tie that game up and Atlanta ended up winning it.
So they've struggled two weeks in a row right now,
but I think it starts with their defense and their
run defense.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
See on the sideline Sunday about ten fifteen, ten thirty
Central time.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Thank you, Baldy.
Speaker 7 (45:06):
You got a fault anytime, Buddy.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Yep, see your brother, Brian Baldinger Beloved Baldy at Baldy
