Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man, you Homers come on.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Dying too.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Now that there are many many positives I can get
out of this day.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
You're a won the draw Johansson left side offensive, oak
cup pass, a check below the goal line around on.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
A wrap round. Bitch is circin to save.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
It's loose, they beck in, it's gone. Did deal it
your office person?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Ah Joe goal and he's given the Wild the lead.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Here at Madison Square gardened with eleven.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Getting to it. Brayden Schneider behind it at now penarea
threw what I for cluff save Gustas in a spectacular stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Robbin Savana jed maybe the save of the year for
Philip Gustison and he keeps it too.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
One from.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Joining us now is John Hines, coach of the Minnesota Wild.
Welcome to nine to noon on a Wednesday Wild in
New Jersey this evening, six o'clock KFA M John.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's Paul Allen. How have you been.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Great? How you doing that? Right? On? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Are you at least a little excited to get home?
I mean it hasn't been super long, but it's been
kind of long. It's early in the season. You excited
to get home?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:00):
You know we got one more and one more big
game today and then uh, it looks like the weather
is going to be nice and back in Minnesota tomorrow,
which would be great for everybody. And uh, but it's
been good. It's been a good trip. It's good to
get on the road a little bit early with the
team and you'll spend a lot of time together. But
I think we're ready, really excited for tonight's game and
then and then get back back home.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
So so John, even giving it is so early in
the season, even with the ups and the downs of
even this part of the season, the assumption from afar
from yours surely is the with you, the blood pressure
and heart rate are all good because it's so early
in the season, right, you're nice and calm.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Yeah, well you're all I mean, it doesn't matter what
time of the season is. I think it's always you know,
you're always highly competitive, and I think you know part
of part of I think being I don't want necessarily
say calm, but I think you have to be focused, right,
you have to be processed, driven, and there's going to.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Be highs and lows, wins and losses. I think it's
important that you, you.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
Know, you're the same person every day and you're you're
you know, working with the team. I think it's important
that you know players can trust what what what they're
going to get basically on a daily basis, and sometimes
there's a little bit more intensity to it. But I
think overall, when you can, when you can have a
strong focus and keep everything consistent, I think it lends
itself in a positive direction over the course of eighty
(03:21):
two games.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
What dumb for those of us when we listen this
evening around six o'clock? What what are some things the
Devils do well that definitely have your attention.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
Well, they're a quick team, you know they uh they
got some quick water bug type of forwards at f
high skill, so they're they're pretty dangerous off the rush. Also,
they do a good job because they're quick and fast.
They like to get in on the four check and
if they can create quick quick turnovers off of four check,
they're looking right for some direct place to the slot.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I'd say those are two of their probably biggest.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Assets to to to my untrained eye, coach, it seems
Marcus Johansson is off to maybe a really good start.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
What are you saying, Yeah, I think I think Johansson's
playing really solid.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
He's got good speed.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
And he's such a he's a really smart player.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I think his play without the puck is really good.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
He's such a reliable guy. He's an easy player to
play with because he can skate and he uses his
skating so it allows him to be able to transport
the puck from an offensive perspective, you know, up through
the neutral zone into the offensive zone. And he's he's
been consistent in his game and that's that's nice to see.
That's why we had him back. He knows how to
play the game. He's such a versatile player. He can
(04:34):
play in your fourth line, he can play in your
second line, he can kill penalties, he can play in
the power play, play three on three.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
So's he's a valuable piece.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
John Hines, coach of the Minnesota Wild nine to noon.
He joins weekly and that's really really cool. They have
the Devils this evening off the victory at Madison Square
Garden against the New York Rangers, and in that game,
I felt really good for your goalie, man. I mean
it's because of football and stuff like that. I haven't
been able to watch them all, but I followed them
all very closely, so I kind of know the ups
(05:03):
and downs that that Gus has had this season. And
with that win against the Rangers, man, I felt good
for him. Uh Is he the type who laments shaky
performances or is the mental bounce back easy for gust
of sim.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
I think Gus has really grown in that area.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
You know.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
I know that some of the results haven't been there earlier.
I wouldn't say it's necessarily on him, but what I've
seen with him is he's just he's more focused, he's
more mature. I think he understands when you know things
are in his control and when things are out of
his control. But I think his ability for me over
my time with him now, his ability to bounce back
into game, say a go goles In or bad go
(05:44):
goles In or even a good googles In, he just
he keeps playing. And I think he's been pretty steady
over the course of time. I think he evaluates his
game while he puts the work in, and I'd say
that's why I think he's had. He had a good year.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Last year, and he seems dialed in this year as well.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
Is early in the season is is there a minutes
played formula like this early in the season that increases
for some as you guys advance.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
It could you know, I think I think some of it.
You know, you're you're going to kind of have your
mainstay guys that eat up a lot of the ice time.
But I think over the course of the season, yes,
depending on how guys are playing or different roles they're
in that some ice times may increase and some ice
times may decrease. But normally, you know, you have guys
that you know, say a caprice off and bowlie, those
(06:36):
type of players, they are going to be in around
eight teams of twenty minutes usually that's where you'd like
it to be, maybe twenty twenty one some nights. You know,
some guys on your back end are going to play,
you know, a low to mid twenties, and then the
rest of your lineup kind of varies based on how
the game is. Special teams their performance where you know,
how the game's going, So that usually varies game to game.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
And you know, I guess I'm thinking more rust related things,
and I know you have training camp to get them
squared away and stuff like that, but still, I mean
it's it's a long haul coming up. So I would
imagine you just can't go full th rottle with every
single thing right out of the gate.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
And you know, when it comes to coaching early in the.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Season, are are there are there rust related things that
you or coaches see yearly from from teams that like
take a few weeks to get right, Like I don't know,
like like a moment you settle in and say, all right,
they're all up to speed.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
Now, Yeah, you know, I think sometimes it's it's it's
just it's it's getting it's the ability to get to
your identity and your structure regularly. Like and I think
sometimes in teams you do it and then maybe you
get away from it a little bit and then.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
You got to bring it back to it. Uh.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
That's that's what I see more is sometimes just getting
that putting that same gase game on the ice period
to period, shift to shift, game to game, and getting
that owned in where it starts comming.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Do do you genuinely enjoy road trips or or have
you done so many sometimes it all just looks the same.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
No, I enjoy you know what I think if you
would like we have a good coaches group. You know,
I really enjoy being around them. I really enjoying being
around our team, So it's enjoyable. Sometimes, you know, if
you get longer ones, you know, it gets to be
a little bit uh, you know, are you excited to
get home and see your family and sometimes just be
at home. But I think over the course of time
with this particular group, I really enjoy the road trips
(08:32):
because you do, you get you've got a chance to
spend more time together. You're just around. You know, there's dinners,
there's in the hotels, there's the planes, there's the buses.
You just you're around each other all the time. And
if it's an enjoyable group, then it's usually makes it.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
For you fun trips some of the youngsters before we
say goodbye and hopefully you beat the devils tonight with
those youngsters up. Danilla EUROP scored Monday night. What what
do you like about his skill set?
Speaker 6 (08:59):
I think Danilla shown since he's been here that he's
a hockey smart player. You know, he's for a young player,
he does understand the game. I think from a defensive standpoint,
his defensive game is a little bit ahead of his
offensive game, right now, I think he's getting more and
more comfortable the more that he plays from comfortable with
(09:20):
the puck and the ability to make plays and see plays.
I think his skating is getting better, He's getting up
to the speed and pace of the game. And I
also think, you know, probably one of the biggest adjustments
for him has just been that there's less time and
space on the NHL sheet than there is in the KHL,
whether it's time and space with the puck or the
(09:43):
consistency and repetitious of puck battles, whether it's in the
D zone or neutral zone or in the offensive zone.
That there's a lot more confrontations that he's encountering than
he's used to.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
What about zeeb Bolliam, how's he getting along and what
challenge is he pushing through?
Speaker 6 (10:03):
Yeah, I think these you know, he's the guy we
have to we have to continue to handle and grow.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
I think he's got some good assets.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
You know, from an offensive perspective, he seems like a
coachable player. You know, he's he's understanding the value of
defense and the importance of being a good defender when
you don't have the puck. In his positioning and his
stick work and the ability to how he needs to
play around the net in the defensive zone. So he's
(10:30):
you know, Zee continues to be a work in progress.
And and UH, and so far, I think he's done
a good job. And I see his game continue to
continue to get better and the areas that we're asking
him to and then the areas that he has some
natural talent.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
And dude, do do you come back with Gus tonight
or does Jasper get the net?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Gus is going tonight.
Speaker 6 (10:51):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
And and and.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
In closing, how do you feel about your one two
with those goalies? Because again it's very very early, but
it looks like it has a chance to be pretty
good over the long haul.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Right yeah, I mean right.
Speaker 6 (11:04):
Now, I feel I feel comfortable with UH, with both goalies.
I think that Jasper's come in and had a UH.
He had a great summer. He spent time here. Like
I said, I think his mindset and his work ethic
has been strong. I think that he's, you know, talking
with UH Freddie Schabaut our goalie coach, you know, he's
in a he's in a good mindset. I've seen a
(11:25):
progression with him and his work ethic and his maturity
and he's played well when he's in the game. So
you have a young guy that's put the work in.
He's had some success, he's had a good camp, he's
played some good, strong games for us, So he's in
a good place. We'll keep them going. And then Gus
obviously is is uh is you know, the guy that
we rely on I think to lead the goaltending tandem.
(11:46):
And I think Gus is in a good spot too.
So as long as they continue to you know, could
continue to work, continue with the same mindset and and
stay healthy. I think we could have a really strong
combo this year.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
And then that was fantastic, great chatting with you again.
Tear it up tonight, safe travels home, and I'm sure
we'll talk next week.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Okay, all right, thanks BA talking man.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Yep, see about that's John Hines, coach of the Minnesota Wild,
taking on the Devils this evening around six o'clock on
FM one hundred point three kfa N.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
It's time to drop the put in fact well, puck talk.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
We have a doubleheader this evening, a play by play
doubleheader that does not include the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Let's play Hoky.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
It's the Wild and Devils in advance of the Timberwolf
season opener.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I got to hear it again.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
KO, Let's play HGY.
Speaker 5 (12:45):
Yes, it's the Minnesota Timberwolves and Portland Trailblazers this evening
to start the Minnesota Timberwolf season on Kfan, and after
the wild Beat, I.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Mean play the New Jersey Devils.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
That's part of the tech What's on Deck setlist for
the entire afternoon and evening at after one hundred point
three KFAM. But for the purposes of nine to noon,
we got to come and catch up. At about eleven
oh three, former Minnesota Vikings titand Byron Chamberlain.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Joins nine to noon.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
He lives in SoCal and he knows a lot about
the LA Chargers. Byron Chamberlain about eleven o three Florio
nine forty and around the corner here comes young Parker
to discuss not only that ten of ten way to
start the NBA season last night with some double ot
mojoe between Houston and the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the
(13:39):
Timberwolf season opener this evening p Fox. Around the corner,
I'm Paul Allen. Nordo produces Good Morning everybody. Nordo got
that cash thing?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
What's going on? Good morning?
Speaker 4 (13:50):
The fan along with two men in a junk truck

with the National Cash Contest. This hour's keyword is credit.
Might win one thousand dollars. With the keyword all you

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Yours truly is Paul Allen. It's a nine to twenty
Vikings and La Chargers tomorrow evening shortly after seven o'clock,
and there is a Thursday football Feast tomorrow, by the way,
featuring Mike Mussman beloved Musk from Vikings Football Sunday the
pregame show into K one two and the Power Trip
Morning Show and Vikings Country, et cetera. Five o'clock Buffalo
(14:28):
Wild Wings Savage. Five o'clock Buffalo Wild Wings Savage. That'll
be the Vikings pregame show now featuring muss tomorrow in
advance of the game against the LA Chargers.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Here is Parker Fox.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
Former game changing forward for the Golden Gophers basketball team
at Parker Fox two four via Twitter. If you are
so inclined to please follow, and we begin here Houston,
OKAC Last night it's gonna lay it out there.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Just let you go. Oh so fun?
Speaker 5 (14:59):
Yeah, great, way get a little bit almost almost the
whole thing unbelievable.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
I couldn't take my eyes off just first of all,
so excited for the NBA to be back. But then
you get a product of this new Houston team with
Kevin Durant and they had the kind of impact that makes.
And then you bring back this Oklahoma City team that
just want a championship, and start out the game, Chet
Holmgren looks like he's going to be a first league
type of guy this year. It regressed throughout the game,
(15:25):
but it was It was a special game to start
out the NBA season. And of course it goes to
double overtime, we get just this is awesome shape performance
in overtimes, and that's just that's just the game to
start off the year. And I think the NBC NB
NBA highlighted it perfectly. NBC killed it with their broadcast
vocalso so fun to hear his voice. Carmel Anthony had
(15:47):
a quarters at pregame two and I don't know if
you saw the bit, but but Chet Holmgren's flexed his
his championship ring in front of like two or three
Hall of famers there on the set that don't have
a ring. Wow, So you gotta love that aspect of
it as well. Yeah, I think it was Vince was there.
It wasn't, wasn't Carmelo part of Carmelo was a part
of it. And there was another one too. I can't
(16:08):
remember exactly who it was. It might have been I
don't know, but yeah, he had his ring out in
front of these guys that don't have one yet. He's
got like this towel over he just got out of
the showers.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
It's loving it, loving it.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
How long did it take either of you or anybody
to become frustrated with Shay gild just Alexander getting into
the foul line.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Oh yeah, right away. I mean it's like the second drive.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
I'm like, that's tick, but fifty to fifty is ticky
tech and he's already getting.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Them merchants back.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
Yeah, definitely back, and you could see the whole rocket
staff just getting I mean, there's nothing you can do
because if you force him left, he's gonna pull up
and he's gonna, you know, use that right shimmy arm
to create the separation. He's gonna knock down that little
fifteen foot jumper and then if you force him right,
he's just so crafty. He played his own pace and
he just he's found a way to take these little
bumps and turn them into something more and and you
(16:58):
got to hit him credit for that as well. But
the rest really have to figure out and I'm not
saying they're not files, but you got to figure out
what's the difference between this little body contact and an
actual file. But credit to Shake because he's found the
way to manipulate that really well.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Now, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
There aren't a lot of people that are taller than you, Parker,
but picture a lineup. I think the average height of
the Rockets last night was six'. Ten it was the
biggest or tallest starting lineup.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
With thompson playing.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Point, yeah going back fifty years since like nineteen. Seventy
it's just, crazy you. Know but to that, end the
one thing is and it's. Cool you, know we got
towers across the, board we got. Length that's all, good
and they used. IT i mean they were very game last,
night taking it to double ot. Totally how ugly does
that thing look without a true point? Guard, though AND
(17:46):
I i am one Of Amen thompson's biggest. FANS i
love the kid that.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Can't be, yes you're.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Good that can't be the answer all, season you know
WHAT i?
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Mean how clunky that thing was at.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
Times locker locker room. Talk, NO i think you're, Right,
Nordo it's gonna take some. Time you, know people are
still high in This rocket, team AND i get. It
but also When fred Van vliet went out with that
injury and he's going to be out FOR i think
the whole. Season, yeah it's probably gonna be the whole
season unless something miraculous. Happens my my hopes of The
(18:20):
rockets kind of went down a little. Bit and it's
that reason, why, uh a Men thompson not a true point.
Guard it's gonna take some. Time but but you Got
Reed shepherd. There you got some guys that are that
are comfortable handling the. Ball i'd love to see some
more point guard qualities come out of A Men, thompson
but the athlete that that he, is the ability to get.
Downhill if you can find a kind of a mid
range at three point, shot This rockets team is going
(18:42):
to be dangerous Because i'll tell you About Alfred. Sanguin
he's gonna tell he's gonna put himself in THE mvp.
Conversation i'm a little on the other side of, It
Alfred sangun know what The.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
Rockets The, ROCKETS i think they're gonna have a season
long problem finding three. Pointers, yeah they will in a
three point league BECAUSE. Kd you know It's Kevin durant
is hof amazing to do what he does at this
age in the stage of his, career but he's not
a big three point, guy never has, been and he
(19:16):
JUST i mean he he can't beat anybody off the dribble. Anymore,
Yeah durant can't beat anybody off the dribbling looks, SO i,
mean old people get tired when they're playing more than forty. Minutes,
yeah in the first, game we're going DOUBLET i think
my man might have played forty. SEVEN i, MEAN i
got a lot of respect For Kevin. DURANT i love his.
Career he beats nobody off the. Dribble, YEAH i think
(19:38):
you're right in terms of that three point.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
Shooting where do you go that they're kind of stagnant salary,
Wise but a guy Like Malik beasley Three.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Shepherd they need, Him they needed Three shepherd to hit a.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
Game but it's you look At Jabari, Smith he's not
a national three point. Shooter And Man thompson not a
national three point. Shooter you can go down the. List
Even tari easan more of a defender than than then
the three aspect of that any. Clumps, yeah and you
bring In Josha. COOGY i Love Josha coogy on that.
Roster in terms of. Defense you're not going to get
a lot out Of. Katie, yeah you might hit a
corner three here, there BUT i think you're, Right, pa
that's going to be their. Downfall and the league is
(20:11):
so prevalent on the three point. Shot so if If
houston's going to find some, confidence they need to find
somebody that's going to knock the three you down.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Consistently, jimmy though anybody, states anybody stay up For Warriors.
LAKERS i watched a part of the first. QUARTER i see,
UH i see Old jimmy the. Bulldog hell are you doing?
It it goes for thirty one last, night including sixteen
of sixteen at the. Line if you're going against, that
(20:40):
that's AN lfl kicking the.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Spot picture THAT lfl stat. Line, hey no big.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
DEAL i JUST i just went Against luca last. Night
L i went Against dalton connect who didn't even. Apply
But jimmy last, Night holy. Cow, Yeah jimmy looks.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Great.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Yeah taking the matchup On luca. Too you're never gonna
win that. Matchup you, Know luca exploded for for forty,
three twelve and. Nine But jimmy looked awesome thirty five,
minutes played his tail, off played physical and make it
sixteen free. Throws you're gonna Have you're gonna have a
thirty point. Game let me ask. You let me ask you.
This in terms of The, ROCKETS i just mentioned their.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Height now on the other end of, it it's not
a complete end of the, spectrum but certainly a smaller
lineup is how.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
The dubs usually.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
PLAY i Mean, draymond you, know with what he's able to,
do kind of outplaying his. Size how does that match?
Like who has the upside in? That is it to
the point of the three point, shot their ability from
the perimeter golden states that'll handle and maybe overcome the,
size or is there a physical element when you have
those towers against those those those shorter.
Speaker 7 (21:49):
Cats that is an advantage For. Houston, well short, answer
three is worth more than. Two, Right so you like that.
Aspect so that's a math. Problem, yeah it becomes a math.
Problem BUT i DO i do Think Golden states just
created this. Environment they've created this offense that's it's gonna
work regardless of who they. Play and now we didn't
See Steph curry when when we face The timberwls face The,
warriors and that was something that led The timberwls to more.
(22:11):
Success but if you have a Healthy Jimmy draymond Kuminga Curry,
pochemsky and then you add in a guy THAT i
love And Al horford to Bring Buddy healed off the.
Bench you Got Gary payton the second to play some.
Defense like this is A warriors, team you might lose
in five instead of the. Three, yeah, WELL i think
they can make a little run this year AND i
think they can be a team that that we look
at and you go into a matchup Against, houston you, say,
(22:32):
oh they're going to dominate. Them, Inside yeah they, will
But curry's gonna hit eight threes And poems is going
to make a couple And Buddy hill's going to come
off the bench and make a. Couple so they live
and die by that Three nordal AND i think if
they're hitting, it they can beat. Anybody but if they're,
not things can get a little.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Weird feel me on.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
This So butler goes sixteen of sixteen at the line
last night and the season opener for The, dubs they
beat The lakers by like Tim Anthony edwards draws more,
attention yeah Than Jimmy. Butler, Yes but Does anthony need
to become one of those players who goes to the
line a ton and every.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
GAME i think he needs. To he needs to find
ways to convert more. INSIDE i think that's something that's been,
prevalent especially the past couple of. Years and it's something
that he realizes, too is he needs to either go
dunk it with authority and go finish it or get
into defender's arms kind of create that. Crafty if you Watch,
shay he he's never sped.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Up he always plays at his own.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Pace he's such a damn good basketball player because he's
able to create that contact and he's got the rest
beita into. That ant never gets these, calls AND i
think it's because.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
He's so flamboyant, stress you know WHAT i.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Mean so if you're gonna be that, way then go
dunk it and put it on someone's.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Head, no but the last part matters a.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Lot you're, right the flam view just the oh, yeah
and that needs to just don't want.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
That BUT i think it will come. Back, yeah it
will be better.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Than last year when he lost a game Against utah
that they lost by a. Point they needed to have
to have a better postseason positioning because of all Those
but IT'S i love how you laid that. Out shake
Guil Just alexander is a point. Guard anthony's.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Not.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
Now anthony has good handles for a guy that, size
dribbles well and he's worked on the left hand a.
Lot it's gotten a lot. Better his crossovers pretty. Good
Step back's gotten really really good, money especially from. Three in,
FACT i could argue is step back three is better
Than shake Guil Just.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Alexander, totally, yeah no.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
Doubt, However, shae they when they craft something in thirteen
seconds have gone off the play clock and now all
of a sudden it Is Amen thompson's anybody And amen's
high end. Defense His shaye sees the move two moves. Down,
yeah so it's bam, bam you're, going what, hey.
Speaker 7 (24:44):
It's in Damn, Yeah shay's combo moves or something. Else
ant has this first step ability WHERE i, believe and
this is a bold, statement he's got the best first
step of all. Time Like Michael jordan had a great
First Anthony edwards And Michael jordan had a great first.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Step BUT i haven't seen any singular.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
One on one defenders first step like when you have
the ball, okay and you're like swaying back and, forth
either dribbling that back and forth or your triple, threat
or it's you versus a man and you're gonna beat that.
Man the quickness and that fast twitch muscle That Anthony edwards,
HAS i think is about as good as anybody. Else
and Now shae's the. Opposite is that, Right shaye's waiting
for his combo. Move he's going to set the defender,
(25:23):
up he's going to get into your, body he's going
to create, contact all that little. Stuff it's more crafty
Versus ant has his first step, nature AND i think
that's that draws less fouls than the crafty body contact
That shae.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Creates, well plus his attitude is SUCH i think he's
looking for that.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Bucket oh.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
TOTALLY i mean that's The And i'm curious what the
mentality is of A. Shae where are there elements where
he's leaning in he he needs that? Foul, yeah where
he versus finishing that being the a topic For, aunt
it does feel like With shae in his, game as
crafty as he is and he plays it and he
does it is probably better than anybody in the, league
it does feel there's an element, Where, YEAH i, mean
(25:58):
If i'm able to get that, bucket that's, great BUT
i Know i'm going to the line with this with
with one of those moves that you're talking.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
About, Well shay's game is so, simplified right Like Anthony.
Edwards you could see him do one hundred different. Things
he could step right for, three step left for. Three
he could barkley into the, post fade, away he could
get to his jump, hook he can go dunk on.
Something there's like a million Things Anthony edwards has in his,
game which is. Great shay's got three. Things shay's either
going to iso you to the left and pull. Up
he's gonna either isol you to the right and get
filed and get to the, rim or the defense is
(26:25):
going to collapse and shrink, in and he's gonna make
the right play and swing it to the outside and
hopefully That chad Or Casein wallace or Lou dord or
one of these guys is gonna step up in ake of.
Three So shay has completely simplified his. Game three things
are going to, happen and if you if you pick
to defend, one he's just gonna kill you on the other.
One So parker goes To twitter At parker two four
and we only have a couple of minutes, left.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Yep and he does. It yearly preseason. Predictions you like
The thunder and The knicks in the Finals thunder, Repeat
Djoki Nikola jokic four TIME mvp according To, Parker Defensive
player of The, Year Victor, Wim, Benyama rookie of The,
Year Cooper, Flag most Improved, Player benedict matherarn.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
With, INDIANA i that one like. That, yeah with tyre
value there.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Too if you're if you're a sports, better well With
tyreeestown and all, that he's going to.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Play that's a great. Point coach of The, year Uh
Gemma High.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Mosley is That Orlando Jamal, Mosley Oh jamal down in
down To?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
ORLANDO i?
Speaker 7 (27:23):
BAD i Think orlando could uh challenge that That knicks
team for UH An Eastern Conference finals.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Bid but see, here here's here's what makes this next.
Level this is what makes this prediction sheet so bold
and so cold like this. One, well it's Sixth man
of The Year Maligue, beasley who by the, way is
not even on a, team right and you're calling him
six of the not even on a team chasing F
(27:48):
B i in N B a or potential.
Speaker 7 (27:51):
Allegations it's all faked. League AND i love to people
going at me Thinking i'm a. Dummy trust, Me i'm
Very i'm very well Aware Melik beasley is not on the.
Roster But i'm also very aware is that he's the
kind of player that you can plug into any offense
and get ten quick points off the. Bench he's a
spark plug shot at forty one percent from three last.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Year elite three point. Shooter he can go get you
seven eight in the. GAME i.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Know and if you're a championship, contender you're looking At
malik busy, like, okay if all this is, fake if
he's actually if he's good, here he's.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Going to come in and he's going to make a.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
Difference and, UH i know it's a bold, prediction but
that's my.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
Take wolves And portland nine nine to fifteen tonight something like. That,
yeah late, ONE i Is Anthony Edwards nordo is? He
is he questionable with back? Spasms?
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Questionable? Yeah, yeah questionable tonight game number one is? Questionable
can work?
Speaker 2 (28:41):
There? Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Ridiculous see you see you next. Week, yeah see you next.
Week love you, guys good, luck look In. LA i
thank your. Brother be Fun Parker fox At Parker fox
two four and in, fact speaking Of Los, angeles The
vikings take on The chargers there tomorrow, night and on
that and much.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
More Mike florio PFTs around the. Corner it's k of
coursecs Fo gloria Of, mine.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
Dinnerware have you been mind f te what father of
my taking it back to that, Day, YEAH i was
still you're good before you spam.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
My gloria author Of father Of, Mine Big shield and
several other. Books also the creator and architect of ProFootball
talk dot, com quite the Popular National Football league related
website pro football talk Dot. Com he also works with
NBC's Football night In, america and holy, cow do they
have a good one this. Weekend but first we welcome
(29:43):
him into the equation and, uh, Tomorrow mike at about eight, Fifteen,
uh barn, time are you settling into said barn With
alex to watch some Hot Minnesota vikings football.
Speaker 9 (29:55):
Action, well tomorrow is going to be one of those
nights where he ditches me for his, friends which is,
fine that happens from time to. Time now it is
yet to be determined whether he will be boguarding my
barn for the. Occasion i'll find out WHEN i find,
out And i'll adjust. Accordingly but there's a certain stress
level that comes from watching games with him at a
(30:16):
time when the team, is to Quote Joe, namath. Struggling
SO i don't necessarily hate the idea that we won't
go through three hours of shared. Torment but, yeah it's
just going to be me tomorrow, night and, hopefully hopefully
it'll be a game that ultimately is worth.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Watching some NATIONAL tv, types Probably radio, two but NATIONAL
tv types are starting to get into The vikings a
bit for not Giving Sam darnold that one hundred million
dollar deal or something they're abouts he got From. Seattle
have you thought much about?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
That?
Speaker 9 (30:53):
NO i disagree with, That but you know what they
should have. Done they should have Kept Daniel. Jones in,
HINDSIGHT i think it's fair to say that, now based
upon How jones is performing with the, calls how much
the coaching staff Liked, jones there was some Steam and
who knows if this ever would be. Substantiated it's not
anything anyone's going to admit. To BUT i remember hearing
(31:15):
at her about the time That Daniel jones was added
to the active roster that there was a scenario Where
vikings somehow beat The rams in the wildcard, Round donald
does not play to a certain standard And Daniel jones
ends up getting the start in the divisional. Round, obviously
that's a tough needle to, threat because how are you
going to win a playoff game if your quarterback isn't
(31:37):
playing well enough to continue to keep the. Job but
remember how jarring That week eighteen performance was From Sam,
darnald and that is still. Lurking you, know as The
seahawks move higher and higher and they're five and, two
at some point you're going to have a game that
stands out as a very big. Game Will darnald have
the same issues that we saw that night when he
was overthrowing receivers when The vikings could have seized control
(31:59):
of the game early and actually beaten the lines and
claim the number one. Seed that's the one question that
we need to answer From donald because he looks great In.
Seattle BUT i think From minnesota's, perspective the play would
have been bring Back. Jones GIVE jj a year to
learn and grow and develop while, practicing while being, around
(32:21):
while being, involved not just being rehab from the knee,
injury and then you could go to McCarthy in twenty
twenty six or even twenty twenty. SEVEN i, mean plenty
of first round quarterbacks have sat for multiple years and
it's all worked out so in, hindsight and we never
have the benefit of hindsight when these decisions are being.
Made BUT i Think jones would have been the preferred, option.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
And that would have been a dramatically cheaper deal than
that Of Sam. Darnold it's my question would, be unless
do you, believe unless you Guarantee Daniel jones that you
will compete for the starting job here and in fact
you're do you think you have to say To, jones
it's your job unless you lose, it because if you,
(33:04):
DON'T i don't think he comes back here because he
wanted to.
Speaker 9 (33:06):
START i think you're, right AND i think somebody from
the colt said something To jones that let him know
that they are not going to make a decision based
on justifying the selection Of Anthony richardson fourth overall in
twenty twenty. Three AND i think at the end of the,
day that's the. Difference whatever The viking said To jones
(33:28):
was less than wink. Nod you're going to win this
job unless you just face, plan unless you trip over
the five yard, line which he's done, before but unless
you completely blow, it you're the. Starter you're going to
win this, job, Right and.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
That's the.
Speaker 9 (33:44):
Challenge and, LOOK i don't know where things stand WITH jj,
substantively but we've seen the knee injury that wiped out
the rookie, season the ankle injury in a far less
than Stellar week two primetime. Performance that's. Lingers at some,
point The vikings are going to face the broader question
(34:07):
of did we just get the wrong guy and is
this guy not going to become the franchise quarterback that
we hope to, acquire the first true franchise quarterback since
Fran tarkenton fifty years. Ago week, one based on the fourth,
quarter based on the, comeback everything look. Good how much
more time DOES jj need to get to Where kevin
O'Connell and the team wants him to. Be how much
(34:28):
more time does he get to prove? It and you could, say,
well you know it's not his, fault he's been, injured
but you know, what the best quarterbacks don't get, injured
and it's an ultimate pass. Fail whether it's your playing,
style whether it's your body, composition whether it's just bad.
Luck the best quarterbacks play each and every. Week the
best quarterbacks don't have knee injuries that knocked him out
for the full season right at the start of their.
(34:50):
Careers they don't get ankle injuries that knocked them out
for seven. Weeks that's part of the overall. Narrative and
through two seasons With Anthony, richardson The colts comfortable getting
to the point where they were able to say To
Daniel jones reliably and persuasively enough to get him to
go play. There so, LOOK i think that every year
(35:10):
there's going to be a guy, available AND i think
maybe this was the ultimate. Decision we can go next
year and find the equivalent To Daniel. Jones but they
already knew him from having the benefit of his presence
on the practice, squad and they really liked. Him so
they Had, jones they Had. Darnold both, gone it's, McCarthy
It's Carson wentz who you, know maybe and he's had
(35:32):
this chariot To, pumpkin to chariot To. Pumpkin the chariot's
back To pumpkin right. Now we'll see if he can
Make pumpkin back into chariot in primetime On thursday.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
Night p ft and against The. CHARGERS a tough, figure
always a tough. FIGURE i mean speed all over the.
Place herbert leads THE nfl in passing. Yards but they've
lost three or four and it almost was four in a,
row say for a two point win against Awful.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Miami did you ever read on The? Chargers?
Speaker 9 (36:01):
No, No and they won three games out of the.
Gates they beat The chiefs In brazil to start the.
Season everything was pointing, up but then then came the.
Injuries and you, know with The, CHARGERS i and this
is a very timely reference that all the kids out
there who are having fun with the six to seventh
thing with their parents will Get It's, Roseanne, Rosanna. Dana
it's always something with The, chargers and this year it's,
(36:23):
like despite the best efforts Of Jim harbaugh to change,
everything they're back to this chronic injuries and at some
point you need to take a broader look at your
program and ask, yourself why are we having so many?
Injuries why are these things. Happening why Was Rashaan slater
in a position to pop up an tel attendant after
a hold end and he gets his, contracted they rush
him back a little too. Quickly that was a talking
(36:44):
point in the aftermath of that season, ender which affects
their offensive. Line Joe walt has the ankle injury against The,
giants the first loss of the. Season until he's, back
that offensive line isn't going to be able to do
what it needs to. Do the running game has been
decimated by injuries To Najie harris And Omarian, ham and
the injuries have kind of overwhelmed The chargers and that
makes them. Vulnerable they lost twenty seven to ten at
(37:07):
home to The commanders they lost, convincingly and the final
score against The, COLTS i think it was thirty eight
twenty four doesn't quite indicate how lopside of that game.
Was it was twenty to three at one point and
The colts just basically ran all over. Them SO i think,
that you, know The charges are a team that needs
to be taken, seriously and on a short, week you
(37:28):
never know how it's going to play. Out but they're.
Not you know, this this game doesn't have the same
feel as it approaches that it had after the first
three weeks of the, season and the win is there
to be, had just like it was On. Sunday the
win was there to be. Had even as the first
half unfolded in a way that looked like The vikings
(37:48):
had no, chance they continued to push and keep it
close and keep it, interesting and really it came down
to that that third, Down and you, know so much
of football, is especially when you're playing, defense guessing right
in a given, situation what do we think they're going to?
Do and The vikings clearly guessed wrong with the call
(38:11):
on the double move to Aj brown that cemented the.
Game but there was still a chance to win that.
Game twenty nine to twenty eight up until that final
third down play that ended up being the.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
Backbreaker you guys with NBC's Football night In, america Get
Green bay at A roger and The Steelers Sunday.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Night that's pretty, sweet isn't.
Speaker 9 (38:29):
It we're going we rarely go to an end season
game and went To Packers Cowboys week. Four everybody went
To dallas and for, me it's the closest Thing i'm
ever going to have to a home. Game roll up the,
road hang out At Akroscher, Stadium go out and check
out the turf before the, game see how it looks
after that debacle from two weeks ago against The, browns
(38:49):
and say how to my good Friend Aaron rodgers and
hang out and check out the.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Game how do you think it's going to work? Out
what kind of game do you think it's going to?
Speaker 9 (38:56):
Be, Well rogers has never played The, packers AND i
just wonder couple of. Things how does that affect him?
Mentally how does he respond in that situation when he's
dealing with The packers. Team how does he feel during
the national anthem when he looks across and sees all
the yellow helmets with the g on the side for
the first time in his. Career how does he harness those?
(39:16):
Emotions there was always a concern With Tom brady and
The patriots that if he was a little too emotional
it affected his. Play will it Affect rodgers play and
the other thing? Too and now we saw him On thursday.
Night he had irritated the entire. Game the entire, game
he was. Irritated and you, know we've seen moments where
he's been upset with teammates during. Games there was that
(39:37):
flee flicker that he didn't think was called the other.
Night he gave it To Jalen warren after the. Game
there was a question whether it was Called Mike. Tomlin
the head coach said it. Was but will the other,
players the guys who are expected to, block to run pass,
routes to do what's, executed will they be a little
tighter than normal because they know that this means more
(39:58):
To Aaron. RODGERS i don't, Know i'm just saying that's
one of the things on the radar. Screen will you
be a little bit too much in your head as
you try to avoid getting on the wrong side Of Aaron?
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Rodgers The jets are going to go win, less aren't.
Speaker 9 (40:10):
THEY i don't know if they're going to go win,
less but we'll. See With Tyrod taylor at, quarterback they
have a better. Chance Tyrod taylor gives them a better.
Opportunity and we talk about quarterback, decisions bad quarterback, decisions
and good quarterback. Decisions The jets made a horrendous quarterback.
Decision and we Said monday ON Pft live that the
benching Of Justin fields during the game was going to
(40:31):
bring into focus the question of whose bread idea was
to give the guy thirty million guaranteed on a two,
year forty million dollar. Deal and With Woody johnson doing
something That i've never seen, before the owner AND nfl
team literally crapping, on not literally his quarterback in a
public setting is unbelievable and it's going to shine a
(40:51):
light at some point on who it was that Wanted Justin.
Fields we've been digging on that because, frankly you, know
the guy with the title OF, Gm Darren, mougie he's
the one that we have to look at and, say,
well he must have been the one that wanted, him
because that's his. Job if it wasn't, Him i'd love
to know who it. Was and one little asterisk in
all that this goes back to twenty twenty. One remember the.
(41:12):
Draft remember who The vikings were thinking about trying to
Get biale first, round and who was involved in the
search For mujie And glenn and who ended up taking
like a consulting gig with The jets after the dust
settled on the hiring Or Rick, spielman THE gm of
The vikings at the time they were looking For Justin.
FIELDS i just would love to know how this decision
(41:34):
bubbled up That fields was the guy they needed to go.
Get think of the other options that were out there
and what they. Cost Daniel jones on a one, year
fourteen million dollar, Deal, NOW i don't know how you
sell Bringing Daniel jones back to The New york. Market
he Got Mac jones on a two year eight point
four million dollar. Deal he Got Sam darnold available for
three years one hundred and really The seahawks set that
up so it was a one year. Deal SO i
(41:56):
think that that's going to be a big deal move moving.
Forward who was it that Decided Justin field is the
right quarterback for this, team because they clearly got that.
Wrong but With Tyrod, taylor they, could they could be
competitive and they could win some. Games they've had like
four games that were one score. Games they they could
find a way to win some.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
Games The International, games just over all The International Games
jacksonville and THE La rams last. Week does THE nfl
and its teams greatly profit off of those, Games, MIKE.
Speaker 9 (42:29):
I don't know how it works from the standpoint of
the host. TEAMS i remember there was a time where
there weren't that many, games and certain teams were never
going to give up one of their home games to
go play at a neutral. Site but some of the
teams like that can't fill a. STADIUM i think that
there's a profit difference where it's your home game At
(42:51):
wembley And wembley's full Or Tottenham hotspur or. Wherever so
this is more about the long term fifty, years seventy five,
years one hundred year planned by THE nfl to become
a global. Powerhouse AND i saw some quotes From Mark,
wilf The vikings, president after The vikings did their two
game road swing To ireland And, london that you, know
(43:12):
this is about the shared commitment to grow the game.
Internationally so short term you're going to have teams that
get the short straw and they just accept it because
the goal is to make this a truly global, sport
and they won't say it out. Loud AND i don't
know that it's ever going to, happen But i'm sure
they'd love to catch soccer in worldwide. Popularity and that sounds,
(43:36):
laughable but it was laughable in the seventies to think
that football would ever catch baseball in THE. Us SO
i think that if they they can manage to get
enough people around the world as passionate about football as
we are, here then you know anything's. Possible but it's
something's going to play out over.
Speaker 5 (43:56):
Time are you expecting any significant raids over the next
thirteen days and do you Think cincinnati would Pedal trey
hendrixim because The eagles could use?
Speaker 9 (44:07):
Them, WELL i think it comes down to what happens
over the next two. Weeks you've got to have a
buyer and a seller for any trade that. Happens you've
got to have a team that's willing to move the.
Guy you have a team that's willing to give up
future assets to get the. Guy and with two more
weekends of football still to be played before the. Deadline
that can. Change you could have teams that are neutral become.
(44:31):
Buyers you could have teams that are neutral become. Sellers
you could have sellers who suddenly, think, hey we won
two games in a, row maybe we're. Buyers with The
bengals beating The steelers Last thursday night and moving to
three and, four they got to be thinking we're not.
Done why would we trade this? Guy so it depends
on how the next two weeks, go and we'll see
teams lose and, win barring another, tie and that will
(44:55):
give everyone a sharper. Focus SO i think for now
it's information, gathering it's monitoring who's, available who's, not and
then final decisions are going to get made once we
know what the team's records are after week. Nine they
moved the trade deadline a week a couple of years
ago after the regular season expanded to seventeen, games because
the idea is you want to give teams more time
to decide where are we here and if we have
(45:17):
a guy who's in the last year of his contract
that we're probably not going to bring, back or a
guy who is in a contract that next, year it
hits the number that we're not going to pay and
we're going to cut him. Anyway there's opportunities to get,
value but the later it, goes the better to find the,
buyers and the sellers will be you.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
Guys On sunday night football on site In, Pittsburgh, pennsylvania
have the game of the. WEEK i, mean that's the
most bally hood and for good. Reason now just down
down the, road so to, speak In, Baltimore maryland AT
m AND T Banks. Stadium that's a pretty good one,
too Because lamar is supposed to be returning this weekend
and The ravens host The bears from one to five
(45:58):
and kind of have to win this one.
Speaker 9 (46:00):
Right, well and The ravens are favored in this, one
which is kind of surprising the way they've looked in
their last two. Games and Without lamar it's a much
different team obviously than it is With. Lamar i'm not
so sure he's going to play this. Weekend let's. See let's,
see he didn't practice On, monday and we'll start getting
the official reports Today, Wednesday, Thursday friday leading up to
(46:22):
the game On. Sunday but he's got that hamstring, injury
and you, know there's just enough going on as it
relates to his. Contract he, WANTS i, believe a new
deal that would put him up at the top with
The Josh allens And Dak prescott's of the. World that hasn't.
Happened and when he was trying to get his current
(46:44):
deal those those last two, years because it was kind
of an awkward dance and he doesn't have an agent
and that complicates. Things and some facts came out in
that collusion grievance ruling that everyone tried to hide for
months Until Pablo toy tracked it down at my. Prompting
the reality is that you could See Lamar jackson not
(47:05):
be willing to play until he's truly one hundred percent
and with a. Amstring when is a guy truly one hundred,
percent especially when you rely so much on the, explosion the,
burst the, agility the, mobility everything that goes Into Lamar jackson's.
GAME i don't, Know AND i just think back to
those latter weeks OF i think it was twenty one
and twenty two when he had knee injury one, year
(47:26):
ankle injury the. Next let's just. See But i'm not
sold on the idea that he's coming back definitely this.
Weekend i'm going to be watching very carefully for the
reports as to whether he practices, Today, Tomorrow, friday and
