Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nine to Noon Back with You on a Monday. Nordo
being mad producer and the master mixer of the patented
nine to Noon Monday montage. Little did he called Cloud
nine by the Temptations, a Motown based band, and Motown
money spends quite nicely when snapping a two game losing
streak and beating the reigning division champions. Motown money is
(00:27):
currency for the down trodden on the comeback trail and
beating up on the bully on the block. Martha Reeves
and the Vandelas was an option with the Motown Classic.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Why because Motown money sounds better in FM. Nowhere to run,
Nowhere to hide? Why Because for Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery,
you know, the best running back duo in the old
National Football League, They're just never was any room to
(01:02):
run or any room to hide. Van Ginkle made a difference.
J Von Hargrave looked the part and Blake Cashman at
fourteen tackles and a force fumble, Stevie wonder for a
Stevie wonderful Monday. Because Motown money sounds better in FM.
(01:22):
It is a Stevie Wonderful Monday Stevie Wonder, part of
the part of the iconic and elite Motown stable. He
got a song called Don't You Worry About a Thing?
That was That was an option for the mad producer
Monday Montage that was. That was an answer on the
(01:42):
wheel of Montage classics. But we're up here floating on
Cloud nine right now. Hopefully you are too. If only
for a single Sunday, Vikings fans went to bed worrying
about little and instead saw the law wearing hard hats
and wielding hammers, just as their favorite football team did yesterday.
(02:09):
Cloud nine for a week, Cloud nine for a week.
And then he comes Lamar off a baby by We're
underdogs again, underdogs and home. You said all right yesterday
nine point underdogs to the reigning division champions, and the
Minnesota Vikings absolutely looked the part yesterday and beating the
(02:32):
Motor City kiddies and placing nine to noon on Cloud nine.
We're exactly where we want to be. Here comes Lamar,
nine point dogs yesterday. So what are some keys leading
to the art of an upset? It's nice when early
in the game stuff like this happens.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Second and fifteen from the Vikings twenty two.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
McCarthy out of the shotgun, ticks a hand off to
Mason loops at.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Left to tone. Great play this to the thirty by
the sideline of the party. Aaron Jones chopped down at
the fifty yard line and he balls ahead to the
Lions forty seven. I'm catching run by Aaron Jones thirty
one yards first down. How excited were Younordo when you
saw running back in the mix making big plays?
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Oh my god, how good was it to have Aaron
Jones back. We got to sweat the ac joint thing,
I get it. Yeah, But whether it was the nearly
nine yards of carry and that week there's a toe,
there might be a toe.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
There's a toe also, but.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
We got all We got all week to figure out
the toe and the shoulder. What I'm still on a
Monday marveling at is right out of the gates. The
head coach is like, I need showtime to work. If
we're going to win at Ford Field, the yard of
an upset, I have to establish something with number three,
three and out of the backfield as a runner. Yeah,
(03:54):
terrific work yesterday, really setting the tone on those early
scoring drives. But then plays like that, a play by
the way that the Vikings it was a little differently
differently constructed. They tried to start against at Sofi against
the Chargers with a similar swing pass set up to
Aaron Jones, who went in complete. But the timing of
this play, the timing of the offense yesterday so in
(04:17):
rhythm together, and just the work of the fake one way,
and he's got to hold it. He's got to wait
for the Aiden Hutchinsons and the Aline mcneils to think
they're going after number nine and for him to just
loop that over the head of the defender to Aaron Jones.
Many things, many things to work on, but many things
in sync yesterday.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And I'm glad you said many things on which to
work because Cloud nine, where we are right now, Cloud nine,
if it dissipates and you come crashing back to Earth,
we're not gonna call a reality. We're gonna say if
you come crashing back down while the fan has learned
that sometimes it can hurt, So it's not like this was.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
This was some form of a perfect game.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Cashman with nine tackles already gone, facing a Politz, gets
away from it, throws left and David Montgomery caught it.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
Byron Murphy whipped on the tackle.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Come on Montgomery to the twenty to the fifteen, stopped
at the ten. I mean, Goff should have been sacked.
Great job to duck under it, but it's unacceptable to
miss that open field tackle on David Montgomery by Byron Murphy.
It's a fourteen yard first down game, come on. So
there was that, but the tackling yesterday had to be
(05:26):
on point, especially against these high enders. Man, these high
enders with their shifty moves and their cunning and their guile,
especially Jamiir Gibbs, it looked like they It looked like
the Minnesota Vikings defense may in very very low key fashion,
very lowkey, lots of respect for the Alabama kid, but
(05:48):
it looked like they may have beaten some desire out
of Jamiir Gibbs as the game went on. You know
what I mean?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, it was impressive.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
I'm excited to hear from Bursts to get his thoughts
on it. There was something different about how Flores deployed
some of those blitzes yesterday, whether he was disguising them,
maybe there was less pre snap motion and trickery going
on because it was effective almost all day. Specifically early
you saw Ivan Pace there was one of the five
sacks on GoF still trying to figure out how we
(06:16):
got to Gough five times, but Ivan Pace sent Jamir
Gibbs into freaking orbit and right into the lap of
Jared Goff. That the pass protection issues for Jamir, not
that he's ever been noted as an elite pass protecting
back right, but he's good at everything, and he was
exposed a bit yesterday.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Eric Wilson getting into the backfield.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
I thought this was in some ways, you know, you
look at the you look at the final score of
twenty four points. There was some masterpiece esque work done
by Flores in the game plan for a guy that's
really had trouble against these weapons in this particular team
for the last several years.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I texted you late last evening.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I couldn't get to sleep, and so what I did
was I went to the Detroit Lions site and watched
Dan Campbell's press conference likewise for Jared Goff and aman
Ross Saint Brown and Dan Campbell started his press conference
with the cursory slash cliched tip of the cap to
(07:16):
those guys they put their pants on the same way.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
We do.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Excellent effort here, excellent effort there, all of about nine seconds.
Then the rest of the press conference was self inflicted wounds. No,
we beat ourselves self inflicted wounds. No, it's we have
eleven people on offense. If one messes up, it messes
up the whole operation. So there wasn't nothing. It has
to be this way, but there wasn't a lot of
(07:42):
you know, and hey, I want to tip my cap
to that fifty one guy who was tip te kettling
half of my roster when he was running up the
middle or around the edge. I found that to be
a little interesting yesterday. The art of an upset has
multiple facets to it, and they include, but are not
limited to, stopping the Lions run, tackling Gibbs. Miles Price
(08:06):
sixty one after the Lions scored and won sixty four
return yards overall eight ooh, one sixty four of the
return yards. Well done, Miles Price.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
I assume that one sixty four doesn't include the ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
No, no, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Figuring out the Laporter problem that was key. We had
a little bit of a Sam Laporter prov problem yesterday.
Early in the game, ladies and gentlemen, Yes we did.
The Iowa tied end clearly was identified as a game
changer within the Detroit Lions offensive offensive mix, and he
(08:43):
went for three catches sixty six yards and a touchdown
on the opening drive, three sixty six and one on
the opening drive three for thirty three the final fifty
seven and one half minutes. We call that problem solving. Yeah,
that's problem solving, ladies and gentlemen. Levi Drake Rodriguez block
(09:04):
to kick and registered his first sack, part of an upset,
punched them in the metaphorical mouth. Hello, Blake Keshman, best
defensive player all day for both teams. Welcome back to
the spotlight. Javon Hargrave. He had a sack. Harrison Smith's
tenth fumble recovery. Harrison Smith, the crafty veteran, was large
and in charge. Ben You're a second nick Vinette. Who knew, Ben,
(09:28):
You're a second nick Vinette. Both filled in for Josh
Oliver and brought hard hats and hammers. Justin caught a touchdown,
which is always good for business. He also now has
the third most receptions in Minnesota Viking's history. Jalen Naylor
one catch, one dagger, one game ball from the head
(09:51):
coach after the game, sacked Jared Goff five times. Five
sacks on Jared Goff, who only had been sacked thirteen
times into the game, and your quarterback in his third start,
improved to two and oh on the road and two
and oh in the division. The art of an upset
and won the transpired yesterday at Ford Field against the
(10:12):
reigning division champions and a team that was undefeated at
home and won those three games by fifteen points or more.
Sixty five rushing yards for Gibson Montgomery. Holy cow, There's
much more, and we have plenty of time to get
into it. But following the game, your hyper announcer, your
(10:34):
hyper announcer utilized what we call in the business the
contraption and walked around a very very congested, jam packed
locker room for some patented victory drive bys, and we
began with rookie left guard Donovan Jackson seventy four, what's
going on? What's a physical game? Physical game? And you
(10:55):
guys talked about it all week. Offensive and defensive lines
punched them, take the fight to them. You did it right, Yeah,
I know, that was definitely the message.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
We knew that they had a physical group on both
sides of the ball, and they capitalize on that in
past game, so we knew that if we could match
and even bring the energy to the next level, then
we'll have a shot at this game.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Donovan Jackson left guard for the Minnesota Moving Company. What
was it like with McCarthy in the huddle late in
a tight game like this?
Speaker 6 (11:22):
How was he? He was calm the entire time. He
was always encouraging regards to where we were. If we
were up big, we were, you know, closed with three
with a three points up, he was like, hey, man, like,
all we gotta do is worry about this play, and
then after that we'll worry about the next play. But
for now, give everything you have for this one play.
We'll sleep on the plane.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Back Gonavan Jackson, my main man, congratulation, Thank you. The
Vikings beat the Lions twenty seven, twenty four. And these
are some drive buys and an incredibly cramped locker room.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Let's roll over here here we.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Go, Hey, THEO, congratulations THEO Jackson joins us. Now, super
physical game, my ma'am, per physical game.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
And you guys talked about it.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
All week I uh, you won, so it worked out great,
But overall how you think it went?
Speaker 7 (12:06):
Honestly, I think that was a great team win. You know,
we needed to do it on all three phases. I
mean we we had some setbacks with with penalties and
all that, but you know that's that is the type
of team that we have to fight, fight through, a
fight to adversity and really just like come back and
make the plays we need.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
You know, this may be a dumb question because you're
a high end competitor, but like when you're watching film
or on TV of like Jamier Gibbs, I'm and Ross
Saint Brown, but specifically Gibbs man to eighteen from scrimmage
the last time we played against Tampa Bay. Do do
you have to watch it a certain way to be like,
oh wow, holy gal, you know, and then just wait
till the game day, execute the plan Floores put out
(12:45):
and not worry about it.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
I mean, when you see him on film, the speed
definitely don't jumps out. So you know, in the back
of our minds, you know it's that that'sn't worry. But
if we do what we need to be done, and
then it's really take takes care care of yourself. Well,
I'm legged it tonight.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Last one, Bud, because I know you want to go.
How good is Harrison Smith playing right now? Holy Cow?
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Hey, that's my dog man.
Speaker 7 (13:09):
He's not gonna lose a step right.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
And you're fantastic.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Thank you, thank you, congratulations on the victory.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
That's a safety.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Theo Jackson a hard a hard hitting individual. And let's
go over here real quick for these for these drive bys.
Check Aaron, Aaron, real quick drive by. Now I know
you had to leave the game and hopefully the shoulders. Okay, Rob,
you set the tone early, Holy Cow, with those catches
and those runs and everything, and you every time you
(13:40):
would get tackled, you would bounce up, just super fired up.
You've done so well against the Lions all of your career.
But physicality was the theme all week and your line
and everybody took it to him today.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
One hundred percent. Let them know.
Speaker 8 (13:54):
Last night the Captain's got a chance to speak in
the meetings and told him just pop up, have a
lot of excite. After you make a play, let them know,
let them know. And every time you get up, keep
letting them know. And it does something to other people's confidence.
So I just told them, hey, let's let's have fun
out here. Let's let's bring an energy, and you're gonna
see it for me. So I wanted to start it
(14:14):
off and let them see it for me and let
everybody follow.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Well, set the tone.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
I mean, you know, it's like people are like, hey,
run more, run more, run more, but there are ways
they're giving up eighty seven yards a game against the run.
And McNeil's back with Reader and all the guys, you know,
so they're tough against the run. But that doesn't mean
you have to run it between the tackles every time
to get it done.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Man, those little swing passes to you are lethal.
Speaker 8 (14:34):
One hundred percent of KLi does a great job of
finding ways to finding ways to give me the ball
in space, give me the ball in space, and just
be a weapon like that. So I feel like anytime
I'm matched up against a backer, I should win. And
then there's a lot of a lot of eye candy stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Going on too, so you never know who's getting the ball.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
You're the ball, man, You're gonna be all right, Yes,
I'll be all right right, congratulations, yes sir, good to
see you.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Yeah. YouTube, but it Aaron Jones.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Uh, indeed, it was showtime for his Minnesota Vikings today
drive bys just a couple if you don't mind, TJ.
How you doing Bud quick drive by? Get congratulations on
the victory. Came back to ford Field, got the money
scored against your former team, team, got the money.
Speaker 9 (15:16):
I mean, which you think it was a blast, great
team win. Uh, you know, comprimary football all the way around. Uh,
special seniors, defense, offense, a lot of fun, a lot
of fun to come here in ford Field and and
get a dub.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I'm looking forward to watching this thing back man, because
I mean, without Josh Oliver and now Nick Vannette's elevated,
you got Ben Eurasek, the underrafter rookie from Georgia and
you you know, so I would imagine that O'Connell and
you guys had to do some different things with Venette
and or eu Asec to keep you in the spot
where you're you're a threat as a receiver, right.
Speaker 9 (15:48):
Yeah, yeah, I mean we we You know, Josh is
a great, great blocking tight end, so uh, you got
to step up in that in that area, you know,
I mean you got to you gotta move some people
in the run game and then you know we were
able to.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Out rush from today, which was which is which is huge.
Speaker 9 (16:02):
You know, we we talked about owning the line of
scrimmage and that's what we did. So you know, gotta
love it. Gotta love this group and gotta love this team.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Excellent win. Congratulations, appreciate you A. J. Hawkinson justin just
real quick. You know, we look at the look at
those chains. Holy Cowhi, justin. So anyway, let's start here
team victory. Okay, you guys came here, snapped that five
game losing streak. You absolutely are one of the if
not the best receivers in the NFL and in the
(16:31):
history of Minnesota Vikings football. With your catches today, I
gotta say it quietly, you passed Adam Peeling for the
third most in the history of the team.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
So we'll get that out of the way. You're the bomb.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
But I want to ask you this, how far back
do you want to meet Robertson go? Because every time
you guys get together, man, Louisiana Tech guys trying to
beat up LSU guy.
Speaker 10 (16:50):
Yeah, we go way back, you know, since high school,
so you know, the competition has always been there. The
rivalry has always been there, but it's always great so
out there and of course see you know that Louisiana
native and uh, but you know, to go out there
and uh, to to get that competitive spirit and you
know it always live for those type of matchups.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Well, what was McCarthy like in the huddle? Late?
Speaker 1 (17:14):
I mean two touchdown passes, one to you, he ran
one end but late in the game, crowds loud. How
do you handle it?
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I feel like he under a degree.
Speaker 10 (17:23):
Yeah, I feel like he's been leading us and you know,
he's been giving us those motivational you know, speeches before we.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Go out there.
Speaker 9 (17:30):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (17:31):
But it's just all about the confidence that he played with,
just you know, clearing his mind from the extra you know,
extra ness of this game, just playing free and just
going out there and just play out ball. Everything else
is going to happen on his own.
Speaker 11 (17:45):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (17:46):
But I'm glad to see him out there with that energy,
with with that confidence, uh, and to lead us to
this victory.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Lastly, Addison with the run a career long at sixteen,
needed it like you needed to breathe.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
It was phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
How about jailing I mean, now, shoot, I mean we'll
just leave it like this. Due to circumstances, he you know,
probably should have had about three, four or five touchdowns
this year, but whatever, he doesn't. He only had one
catch today too, right, he only had one catch today.
It was it was arguably the biggest catch of the game,
sixteen yards dagger the Lions about jailing.
Speaker 10 (18:16):
Oh yeah, definitely one of the biggest catches of the game.
You know, for that situation, third down, under two minutes,
only up by three points, so that that play alone
is something that you know, we strive for and we
always say that, you know, we're we got to make
a play in our receiver room. So for him to
(18:37):
go up and make that play on him one on
one coverage, uh jj, giving him an opportunity to go
up and make a grab, it was phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
It was great.
Speaker 10 (18:44):
And you know, I said before going out there, you know,
we got to keep the ball in our hands. Let's
not give this ball back to Detroit and give him
an opportunity to go win this game. So it was
just great to you know, stay out there on that
field to get that to get that first time victory,
victory New.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
And I know you haven't gotten into your phone and
scores and stuff like that. Yet maybe a have you
guys win?
Speaker 12 (19:06):
Cool?
Speaker 1 (19:07):
But another good team in the division, Green Bay lost
at home to the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
I mean it's a wide open league.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Parody might be present, man, but that that's that's kind
of a that's I mean, what.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
A wonderful day. This is the way the whole thing
worked out, right for sure?
Speaker 10 (19:20):
You know, I always say, is any any given Sunday,
you know it's it's a crazy league as a you know,
the NFL is is difficult to play in, and you
know any Sunday you can get somebody's best, you know game.
So it was definitely great to come here in a
difficult environment to play in and to get this victory
because you know, we haven't won here in a in
(19:41):
a couple of years. So it was great to you know,
CDs guys, happy faces and you know, get back to winning.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Nice job, Buck, congratulations, appreciation Justin Jefferson who had a
touchdown catch today. From from from JJ McCarthy. We got
David Coop holding the contraption almost left eighteen hanging or
you kidding me? First time holding the contraption of all people,
you can't leave him hanging.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
All right, what's up, Walter, Good to see you.
Speaker 9 (20:06):
Button.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
All right, let's roll down here and slow roll this.
Well we wait for uh, we wait for a certain
quarterback to become available.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Here we go, Hey, JJ, just real quick drive by.
What's up, Budd? Congratulations man.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Uh, I'm just gonna start with an open David Coop
JJ McCarthy, JJ McCarthy, David Coop, I'm just gonna leave
it an open end.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Or what was the day like? It was amazing.
Speaker 13 (20:33):
It was amazing to just you know, be back in
Michigan and you know, have this opportunity. You know, I
talked to the guys last night in my portion of
the Captain speaking, and I was telling them, you know,
I've been sleeping in my college bed this whole past
week because obviously has us great dads, we got to
get our sleep right. And uh, you know, it just
got dja vu for the opportunity. I've been praying and
(20:55):
asking God for an opportunity like this, and you know
I told the guys that, and you could just see
him all night up and it was just a fantastic
way of you know, getting the dub here. But a
lot of meat on the bone.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
All right, So what was different with you third start
compared to the first two? I mean, I'm calling it
from a mile away, but it seems so calm and
just like you've been here not for three games, man,
but for like thirty to three hundred.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Did it feel like that?
Speaker 13 (21:18):
It did because I feel like, you know, I just
found out what I really needed to focus on, you know,
the efficiency of thinking, understanding that there is such thing
as overload of information and just take into the game
the stuff that's gonna matter and that's going to imply
against the defense. So you know, it was just great
prep all week, and you know we got to do
it again next week.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Appreciate you, man, congratulations, Always appreciate you, pa. JJ McCarthy
came back to Michigan and where he was a star
for the Wolverines and he got all the money.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Jalen.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
I mean, it's like I'm chatting with Kevin O'Connell earlier
in the week on ex's and o's and I'm like,
let's just say, due to circumstances like Naylor maybe should
have some more catches, some more touchdowns and winging to
look at the stats, We'll just end it right there.
He agreed with me and said, you're having a very
good season. I mean one catch today sixteen yards? Holy
cal was that a big catch?
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Jaalen?
Speaker 11 (22:08):
Oh absolutely absolutely, may you know to ice the game
and uh get us out with a w You know,
j JJ's pressing us and it's putting in the right
spot to where I can only I can go make
the play.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
And I came down with it.
Speaker 12 (22:20):
All right.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
So Matellus and McCarthy a couple of wolf rains going nuts,
jumping up and down.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
What about the Spartan. Let's not forget about the Spartan.
Speaker 11 (22:27):
Right, No, no, say you can't forget about us, man.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
You know, not a good season.
Speaker 11 (22:30):
O're all for the guys, for my guys at MSU.
But you know I still love him to death and
I'm just trying to put on form issue.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Jalen Eller.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Congratulations man on the victory, and we'll talk to him. Yes, sir,
thank you, sir, Jalen Naylor. One catch sixteen yards and
it won the game.
Speaker 14 (22:48):
L d R.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Ben Hi Hi, Jonathan Bernard, good, thank you. Ben Leber
calls you out, Presidente. All right, so we got some
LDR in there today. You got your first full National
Football League SAC today. High five on that LDR. You
blocked the kick, didn't you. I did, Yes, sir, you
blocked the kick man. And what a big block that was, right.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
No doubt, Yes, Sir Josh Mittellis he blocked a kick.
Speaker 12 (23:12):
Hey, hey, hey, First of all, yes, he did block
the kick.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
But the work that these guys did in the run game, amen. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (23:21):
For number forty four to not have to tackle, for
me not to have to tackle Jamir Gibbs in the
open field, awesome. I mean, they did their job. That's
what I came over here to tell him. He did
amazing doing his job. And when you do your job,
plays come shout out to you.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Boy, know whether it's tell Us with Mattellus, I mean,
the future radio and TV career is big for him
because well because he stole my bed. I mean, I
was gonna be like that work you guys did on
the defensive line. Now, granted they lose their guards during
the course of the game, very physical game, but he's right, man,
they had twenty five yards rushing at halftime. Your rush defense,
with all due respect, have been problematic, especially it's so
(24:00):
fi in some other games. But you get Van Ginkle
back and we got ldr Hew Presidente doing his thing.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
What a great win to that, Yes, sir, we needed that. Definitely.
Speaker 13 (24:08):
Got to go back to work, work on our techniques fundamentals, man,
and put everything together.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Yes, sir, I appreciate you man, Thank you, Levi I,
Drake Rodriguez, Hey, Jalen, Jalen, and Javon if you got
a second Javon Hargrave, fistbump man, congratulations on the victory.
And I heard all week offense and defense trenches all right,
physical throw the first punch, Jayvon. Fantastic work today, you
have that sack the Javon Hargrave.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
How the game feel for you? I feel good? Uh, definitely.
Speaker 11 (24:37):
We could come out and dominate like that and stop
the run and you can put pressure on the quarterback
and get the win.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
So that's always a great feeling. Javon.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Could you tell you know with the way you guys
were doing things early that Jared Goff was kind of
second guessing things a little bit, holding it or maybe
going short, because I mean it seemed like you guy,
he's a seventy four and a half percent guy into
the game.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
At one point he was fifty one. So you guys
did something. Yeah, I ain't even know that.
Speaker 11 (25:05):
I don't really if you know what would be going
on back there, I'll just be shaying to beat the
office alone.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
And so, well, that's good to know. I'm glad we did.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Man.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Congratulations. Great to see that sack. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Jalen Reben. Physical game out there, man, physical game. You
go four sacks now? Oh, Eric Wilson had too, by
the way, so you and Eric are knows and knows
hard Graves only one behind you. But that's all good news. Man,
when physical players like that are getting sacks.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Yeah, it's all good.
Speaker 15 (25:31):
You know, it's funny basically trying to rush and get
back there. We all rushing to get back there, and
it's good.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Congratulations on the victory, man. You know you're one of
my favorites. Raven's next Well, we'll deal with Lamar next week.
And uh man, it's just so great to hear take
the fight to somebody, like we heard it up to
the Cincinnati game, off the Atlanta game, and you guys
did heard it all week off the Chargers game, and like, like,
how does that just turn on where it's like all right,
we got to go out there and throw the first.
Speaker 15 (25:58):
Punch, oh man, just from the start, when Ko defers it,
when we get the ball and put the defense out.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
You know, we just come out and do.
Speaker 15 (26:05):
What we gotta do.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Congratulations, my man, Thank you appreciate it all right, Jalen Redman.
Let's uh, let's let's eric. I talked to your mom
before the game, so that and we said nice words. Sure,
so maybe you can give me a little dry by here. Congratulations,
drive by.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Man?
Speaker 2 (26:19):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Good?
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Redford?
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Right?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Redford?
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Yeah about Redford, like twenty minutes away from here. Yep,
your first start in your career, I believe was a
Ford field. Your your mom, Yep, your mom was there
and I talked to her on the sidelines like I
did before London, and I think I think she said
there were twenty three to twenty five friends and family
members and uh, I mean, you always play well, but man,
it like when you have that many people here and
(26:44):
you're back in your home state, does that like juice
people up a little more?
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Feels good?
Speaker 14 (26:48):
Man, feels good having you know, your closest friends, closest
family members here supporting you, seems that way. Every every
time I've played in Detroit, which is basically every year
of my career, has been at twenty plus people here supporting.
So it's awesome seeing them out there. I'm sure my
mom was out there screaming.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
And lastly here because I know everybody has to go identity. Okay,
so like Cashman comes back, you get that well. By
the way, with Ben Ginkel, Cashman and Grenard, you guys
are two and oh this year. They hadn't played together
since Soldier Field, but now with you and Cashman, who
had fourteen tackles kind of establishing and even when he
got in there too, was wreaking have it. So that's
pretty good when you start establishing that identity. Of stopping
(27:28):
the run against gibbson Montgomery, that was big.
Speaker 14 (27:30):
Yeah, yeah, you know they're going to run the ball.
Teams have been trying to run the ball on us
on a lot. So it's been a point of emphasis
for sure. Everybody playing together, everybody communicating, playing violent, man
playing violent, playing together. They'll get tired of the simple
things man doing it over and over again.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Congratulations. What's your mom's name, Shannon? He was fantastic. I
talked to her before every game, I see her on
the sideline as she was so excited, face painted. I
mean got kids with like purple and gold bows and everything.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
They were all fired up. Yeah yeah, yeah, thanks man, Mom.
If you hear this, I love you. We love you too.
Congratulates Thanks very.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Cloud nine sounds better and FM so great to have
that bubble burst. I need to sweep the Lions and
the Packers to win the division and step one is accomplished.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Thank you, timber Tech, timber Tech. What's on deck?
Speaker 1 (28:18):

But first here comes mad producer with that motown money thing.

They're proud sponsors of Gophers athletics.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
We love ourselves some beef, some Thousand Hills beef in particular,
and I love me some JJ McCarthy. Now overall on
the day, kids, third NFL game, all right, so fourteen
to twenty five, let's bump that completion percentage up buck
forty three through the air, we ran for a buck
forty two. A couple of tds did have the pick
through it a little behind mister Addison or excuse me,
(30:19):
mister Naylor. But I saw a stat where he was
against the blitz. He threw for about seventy five percent
and had a touchdown on the day. So I'm paraphrasing
that because I had this stat in front of me,
and I have lost it, and I apologize. Well, I
was busy laughing about something else McCarthy against the Blitz.
(30:40):
McCarthy specifically against the Blitz, so we saw some pressures
good against the Blitz. All of this rambling is to
get to the point where I'm going to ask you.
In a game where we were looking to see a pulse,
in a game where we were looking to see growth,
was there a moment, moments, or an aspect of his
game his third NFL game, by the way, we've been waiting.
(31:02):
We should have seen it against the Bengals. We had
to wait a month and a half. Was there a
moment or moments of McCarthy's game yesterday where it's like, Okay,
that kid's better today than he was Week two against
the Falcons when he tripped up that ankle.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
I'm really really glad you asked that question, because I
never know what's coming in bikes bites, and sometimes there
are absolute ten of ten daggers, and this is one.
I'm not going to say. What he did on a
few plays to alex Enzeloni should be a felony in
forty eight States. But he juked alex Enzeloni, who's quite
(31:40):
the fine tackler and he's very fast. He juked him
a couple of times and just broke his ankles, including
on the touchdown run where he busts out to the right.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
I'm like, all right, what you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (31:52):
And then he runs and Anzeloney had an angle on him.
Watched that sweet little hesitation by JJ McCarthy to get
himself into the end zone and Anzeloni went leaping and
caught nothing but air. So it's tough to put Anzeloni
on bad moments like that, which which you know is
God's natural gifts were on display. But secondly, I was
(32:16):
chatting with former NFL MVP Rich Gannon last week and
we were talking about JJ McCarthy and he said, in
his first back after the Atlanta game, the one thing
that he wants to.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Start seeing this is MVP talk right here.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
The one thing he wants to start seeing with JJ
McCarthy in this game is show us in patches, the
sucker has slowed down for you. Just show us it
has slowed down for you. Walk out of the huddle confidently.
If there's a bad play, get them back in the
huddle confidently. Just show us that it's slow. It's slowing
(32:55):
down for you. Yes, I felt that absolutely out.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Of the gate in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
I mean, you're you're in the belly of the beast
to ford Field immediately because of the laporta. So how's
the kid going to handle it? He handled it with poise.
He was just calm. He was just calmer today. That's
why I brought it up in the drive by. And
you know the way McCarthy put it about efficiency and
some other things. But it kind of reminded me of
(33:23):
when Julius Randall went down for the Minnesota timber Wolves
on a nondescript Saturday against the lowly Wizards and he's
out for a month and when he came back, he's
having a conversation after a game with Lea b Olsen
and he's like, I've done this thing a long time.
But until I was able to sit back and watch
(33:43):
it from afar and kind of get a feel for
where these guys want to be during games, it was
revelatory for me.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
It opened my eyes. Same thing with McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
He was able to sit back, learn from Wentz, who
went two wins three line in his time, and just
learn about nuance, knowing it was my job, it will
be my job, but hey, look at this. For some reason,
I didn't see this before, but now I do. So
it was a step. It was a wonderful baby step
(34:16):
taken by the twenty two year old.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
And it's slow down.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
And thank you for that, because that brings me back
to the stat that I had lost, that I had found.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Isn't it a number?
Speaker 4 (34:28):
And it's courtesy of Ben Gesling of the Star Tribune
and it does. Indeed, if we're going to do Nordo's
numbers zone coverage style, thank you, Tom Schreier and everybody.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Involved zone coverage does a good job.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
He hit me with a number that Jared Goff was
two of six for fourteen yards in the first half
on eight blitzer.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Yes, Goff against the blitz is one of the best
in the history of the NFL.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
And he was hideous yesterday, specifically in the first half.
The reason I bring that up is because the Ben
Gestling bit another number for you. The Lions generated eighteen
pressures and five sacks on JJ yesterday on thirteen blitzes. Yesterday,
they generated nine pressures and two sacks. JJ McCarthy seven
(35:14):
of eleven against the blitz for a touchdown ninety seven yards.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Let's go wow.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
So that SOI leads, the slowing down, the shifting, not
freaking out in a game again, the baby steps.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I like the way you put that.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
I'm taking umbrage with the Lions sacked yesterday. In fact,
I'm predicting there is a stat change or changes this week.
Derek Barnes did not sack JJ McCarthy when he ran
out to the right. It's it's either a zero gain
or a tackle for loss. There were two of those.
(35:47):
Once he pulls the ball down becoming a runner, I'm like,
why is that a sack? Not enough time to think
about it? Why I laport him?
Speaker 4 (35:53):
There was another one by the way, where I mean
he gave up, ref takes the ball and moves on.
It looked like he was only touched by his own guy.
Were he int the somersault yesterday? I remember that yes,
and I don't think he was down technically, although he
gave himself up.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
I'm texting O'Connell and banging my fist on the fore
I could demanding he contact the NFL and send in
these plays because they're not sacks.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
I always love that.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
One beautiful part about it is winning, and you know
the h bursas in the joke bit about coaches, is
you still give us something to complain about on Monday,
whether it was Tavier Thomas, I mean the not running
out of bounced thing on the ensuing punt that took
place after he killed a ninety nine yard kick return.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
It was ninety nine. I think it was ninety nine.
It was like a half yard. I didn't know how
long it was. I was relying on Poopy Dave because
I was looking at something else.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
But I lost my mind a little bit on that.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
And Tavier does a up, does a really good job
on special teams.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
But something to complain about on a Monday is the
special teams penalties. I mean, I don't want to say
this is what got Kobe King waved, but he couldn't
get himself in the mix as a linebacker. He's on
special teams. We saw a bunch of special teams flags
and now Kobe King has waived. And that was, I mean,
a couple of bad moments, tough moments in short order
for Tavier. But with the kid QB. The cool thing
(37:11):
about this and the growth and the baby steps. We're
not sending him to Canton just yet, right, but he
throws this beautiful on the It was this beautiful near
side shot to Addison in traffic between two defenders, but
then he overthrows justin Jefferson. He runs out to his
right across his body. That gives some vikings fans, some
(37:31):
bad memories. Fires a dart to TJ. Hawkinson in the
end zone for that second TV. Yeah, but then he'll
make a mistake and underthrow or throw behind Jalen Naylor. Right,
the good times the bad times are raising the kid.
It's an opportunity for him to celebrate, but also say
the job's not done. The baby steps yesterday were so
fun to watch, and same for Flores because I can't
(37:55):
recall a game whether it's Lions or Rams or cow
Bears where Jared Goff was so confused he short hopped
no fewer than six plays. I think liber nailed it
yesterday too well. You talked about a patient defense. He
said that they were doing a significantly better job of
not even mugging the gap pre snap or getting antsy
(38:18):
and starting to inch forward. That they were almost like
they simplified the pre snap, but then they were still
coming right, Like Eric Wilson, there was no shocker that
five to five was coming up the middle. Ivan pace
is kind of you know, using him in spurts, getting
him back into the mix.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
On defense.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
You kind of knew he was going to come, but
there wasn't the mugging, there wasn't the rotations, there wasn't
the pre snap looks. And I thought that, like he
called it, liber called it a patient defense where they
were doing a much better job disguising those blitzes.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
And it came through in spades yesterday.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
And see, that's one thing with the Dan Campbell press
conference I listened to last night that frustrated me.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
And I like Dan.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Dan does a really really good job, and I know
people on his staff who had been around Dan all
pretty much the last ten to fifteen years. Dan is
a wonderful, wonderful coach for this team. He's a wonderful
coach period, But they're off what you just said. He
was asked a question in his press conference yesterday and
he was like, well, we've seen all those mugs, We've
(39:19):
seen all those stunts and twists. There wasn't anything that
we hadn't seen from them. I'm going to respectfully disagree
because I can't recall in a Vikings Lions game over
the last four years where the Vikings so frequently ran
two safeties to the line of scrimmage and then when
it's kill kill kill, all right, so play change and
(39:43):
right before the snap, remember Smith and Jackson retreating sprinting.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Back to like deep safety spots. That's new.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
I mean, hey, I mean, with all due respect, Dan,
because I like the Lions. Man, I'm not mad at
the Lions, and I've seeing Harris and do that quite
a bit now both. That's the thing, Yeah, is that
is that both I get you?
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Okay? Is that two and three?
Speaker 1 (40:07):
We're doing it in retreat fashion right before the snap
where Golf didn't have a chance to think it out,
so I didn't. I mean, with all due respect, Dan,
that's kind of new.
Speaker 10 (40:15):
Man.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Amarison Smith back, by the way, he was phenomenal yesterday the.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
Best game of the season. Had only been playing about
fifty percent of the snaps and yesterday he was a
massive factor.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
But see, Dan, I mean, occasionally, every so often people
have the opportunity or or people it's not it's not
bad or you don't do a bad job if people
trick you, right, okay, and you got tricked a few times,
so it Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Other team can win.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Yeah, there were self inflicted wounds by them. Uh, and
there was a lot of I'm sure of what you've seen,
but you know. Then he said another thing where he's like,
you know, that was so uncharacteristic of how we play
and what we do. In fact, it's the worst overall
bit maybe that we've had in X amount of years.
And I'm like, Brod, don't you remember the Commander's playoff game.
(41:03):
I mean, come on that press conference. That's why I
texted you like eleven thirty. I'm like, this thing has
me mesmerized.
Speaker 4 (41:10):

I always love that one, But Dave Roberts recognized leadership

and the Panthers have won sixteen to thirteen Carolina, And
(44:09):
there is your dugger.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Oh jeez, wow, Carolina. Wow.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Carolina was outgained by one hundred yards. The home team
didn't punt, won, the time of possession, was markedly better
on third down, and threw for almost triple the Panthers'
final yardage and lost.
Speaker 15 (44:33):
He can't put that, and they take it seriously.

How good is that? Outstanding?
Speaker 8 (46:54):
And here's the thing, you just got a bolt of
energy as a football team on that sixty eight yard
field goal?
Speaker 2 (47:01):
How good is that? But we can answer it for you.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
It's a National Football League record that's how good it is.
Nice work, big boy. They happen to call little.
