Speaker 1 (00:00):
You m.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Jams queens, you lucky suckers.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Free agency never fails on the quissy train.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
What in a hand fat is going on with you?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (00:33):
Well, I'll probably go to that thing, but I'm not
saying anyway, I don't like you. You are a nut job.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Good morning and welcome to a TCO PC Tuesday. It
is nine to noon, yours truly, Paul Allen, Producer Nordo
here Brett Blake Moore guides the great ship Loft Covenant.
We are at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center for our
Tuesday stop at the TCO Radio Studio, and Minnesota Vikings
head coach Kevin O'Connell, per usual on Tuesdays, joins at
(01:48):
eleven o'clock. Speaking of head coaches, let's begin with one
of our very favorites, Chris Finch, coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
And this is courtesy of Second Harvest Heartland and Twoharvest
dot Or coach Finch.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Paul Allen, what's going on, buddy?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Hey? How you doing? Pa?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Pretty good?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I have some good news for you, and it's basketball
but non basketball related. I figured you needed it. I'll
explain that momentarily so nine to noon, I'm here at
the fan. We do a show called The Friday Football
Feast where we're at a Buffalo Wild Wings each and
every Friday during the football season. We have a fantasy
football component part of the show, like half a segment,
(02:28):
and a group called Fantasycres Fantasycares dot Org, led by
a guy named Scott Fish that they came to us
at the Friday Football Feast and for all the points
we're amassing three of us, they're giving fifty dollars a point. So,
for instance, my group has fifty four points, which means
(02:48):
twenty seven hundred dollars is heading the way of Second
Harvest Heartland as of now, and we still have four
weeks to go. So if I can get hot with
wide receivers, running backs tied, and quarterbacks, that means a
Second Harvest Heartland will continue to attain this philanthropic money
from a Fantasycres dot Org.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Oh, that's awesome. I really appreciate that support. I'll tell
you what, Yeah, I'll match you every dollar that your
team contributes to Second Harvest in that efforts.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Hold on governing collapse. Everybody, Are you kidding me? He
didn't even know this was coming, and he offered that up.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, so we're all right, well, well we're on wide
receivers this week. I don't know first first wide receiver
that comes to your mind that you think is going
to have a big touchdown scoring week this week. And
let's eliminate Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Antonio Brown, and Devonte Smith.
Two of my favorites, two of your favorites. So what
(03:49):
do you think just any name.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
For me.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Let's say, uh, Pickens with a big bounce back performer right.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Right right in the face of the Vikings on Sunday
Night Football.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I mean, yeah, you don't need to make that.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Didn't mean that, Yeah, you didn't need to take that
Sun's loss out on the nine to noon radio show
with Pickens right in our face on Sunday Night Football.
You know what, Well, that's the first name you said.
So we're gonna go with George Pickens. And once again,
Covenan collapsed for Finchy second Harvest Heartland two Harvest dot org.
We're at twenty seven hundred dollars into the season. He's
(04:28):
gonna match it. Fantasycares dot Org. Thank you very much.
Good just keeps getting better. That's really cool. And I
figured you needed the good news out of the gate.
I mean, you're fifteen and nine, it's not a bad record,
but nevertheless, figured you needed the good news off the
loss to the Suns. Then you get home and start
to chill watch overtime football and your Eagles lose. It
(04:52):
was it was just a rough night for our finchy
last night.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, it was a rough night. I mean, it's a
It was a game that you know, we needed to
we needed to win it, but we kind of just
you know, they'll go bear rejection certainly hurt us. We
didn't shoot the ball well from the perimeter. You know,
all credit to the Suns. They did what they did
and we weren't able to measure up. So disappointing one
(05:17):
last night, but we gotta gotta gotta get back back
in the saddle. This weekend kind of an odd time
of the year in the schedule because of the NBA Cup,
So we we really do get a couple of practice
days this week, which is I think exactly what we
need to try to find find a find a few
things in our offense that have been lacking. And uh, yeah,
(05:41):
I try to get you know, build a build a
new little streak here. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
You you know, I I've read you saying this and
heard it in your press conferences, and you've said it
here about developing good habits, just developing.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
Habit after habit after habit. That's good.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
And and you know, last night was strange because it
was another for me and I joked with you about
this last week. I think it was that first New
Orleans game. I thought you had those guys every step
of the way despite some shoddy shooting Rudy gets ejected
your twenty six percent from three.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
The twenty six percent from three.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
That, Uh, that kind of foiled you last night, didn't it.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
It did?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I mean, and you know, we had good looks by
good shooters who have been shooting the ball well so
far for us this season. But you know, sometimes that's
going to happen. But have them all kind of pile
up on us with a bunch of subpart performances that
that definitely hurt. But you know we're gonna find ways
to find other ways to win games like that.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Yeah, the uh.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
And and with with the perpetual slow starts, granted, you've
come back and you know one affair amount of them
that I would imagine that's a habit with practice time.
But that's a habit you want to break, right, Oh,
no doubt about.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
It's something that we've discussed. I mean it was you know,
I think Julius made said it in his postgame press conference. Uh,
you know that we you know, we kind of got
what we deserved there because at some point in time
we're going to catch up to us and and you
know I think we we we well, we never felt
(07:16):
fell behind, you know big like we had another other
slow starts. You know, it's still you know, a good team.
Phoenix is a very good team of having an outstanding season,
and they have a strong identity played to it every
single night. And you know those types of teams are
not going to just kind of let you back in
(07:36):
the game easily.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Maybe the you do you happen to remember the Kobe
Kobe Bryant story from Lower Mary in high school.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
God restless soul of Kobe.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
But I don't know, Maybe they're big Kobe Bryant fans
and they're like purposely getting behind so they can come
steaming back and win it in dramatic fashion.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
That'd be a bad habit. But Kobe used to do that,
remember that.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Well, yeah, it seems like the life we've been living recently.
So yeah, well the wins are great, but you know,
we're not playing our best basketball right now. We're going
to figure out how to give that back to doing that.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Anthony got to the basket when he wanted mostly, and
it didn't seem like I mean, you know, I'm not
trying to be Jack Ramsey here, but it didn't seem
like the doubles on him were as voluminous as some
other games. He was twelve or fourteen from two. He
and Julius go five of eleven from three. But first,
with Anthony getting to the basket effortlessly, are there times
(08:36):
that you just like want to unleash him because they
had minimal chance of stopping him off the dribble.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah, I mean, he didn't face a lot of double
teams last night. Maybe a few here and there spot situations.
He was able to kind of get to wherever he
wanted to go last night. You know, shut the ball
well from the mid range, he got to the basket.
You know, his shot selection was it was pretty high
level last night. For me. You know, he mixed it up. Well,
(09:05):
I'd still like to see him kind of commit to
a few more threes a game. I think that are
there for him. But yeah, you know, all in all,
I thought he, you know, played a really good offensive
game last night.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, And what I was getting out there is that
like if you unleash Anthony and he constantly goes to
the basket, then ball could get sticky, could be a
little ball hogged to it. But it's it's with Phoenix,
you know. I just I just wonder what the lack
of doubles is that like scheme? I mean, in other words,
you know, this guy is going to get us from two,
but your other guys are cold from three, So we're
(09:39):
gonna let him shoot those threes until they get hot,
you know, Like like did they do that last night?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I mean they you know, I'm not sure that was
there in tent. I thought, you know, they do. They
try to switch a lot to slow you down on
the perimeter. For sure. They generally collapsed pretty well around
around the ball, certainly around your main guys like.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
Julius and.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Anthony, And I thought those guys created a lot of
good shots for their teammates, and we just didn't connect
on them. And we have some big ones in the
in the you know, in the heart of the game
at the end there that we really needed to go
in that didn't go in. But yeah, I mean, I
mean generally they're more of a pressure team than they
(10:24):
are a double team, and you know, with a lot
of their injuries that they have, they weren't able to
extend the pressure like they normally do.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (10:35):
What's the preach to Rudy after the forearm to Mark
Williams Ribs and the ejection.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Well, I mean, I would say, I'll start by saying this, like,
I you know, I feel Rudy's frustrations obviously, like you
got to keep your emotions under control. A couple of
plays later, you just got whacked in the head. You know,
I think you know, haven't watched it now for three
plus seasons. I'm not sure there's many teams, many players
in the league. Rather that I have a piece taken
(11:03):
out of him nearly every every single time down the floor.
Then Rudy, you know, I think he gets cheap shoted
a lot and then he gets held a lot. I
think he's hitting the head in the face a lot.
And you know, oftentimes new we're told, oh, that's incidental contact,
that's part of the game, et cetera. Well, while it
(11:24):
might be, you know, it can't all be the way.
And I would say too, sometimes you get frustrated, you know,
it's frustrated with some people taking the swing that yell
all the time, and you just you don't get the
protection that you need. And you know, so he's been
a little bit frustrated with that. I think this year,
I didn't think that that play warned an ejection. I
(11:48):
thought it was, you know, all means a flagrant one,
but a flagrant two. I didn't see see that in it.
I didn't see any wind up. I didn't see any extension,
you know. I saw a foe arms of the ribs
to a guy who was you know, elevated, which I
can understand why that would be flagrant one. But I
did not see flagrant too in that call.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
After after Williams went to swiping and hit Rudy in
the head, Gobert showed good restraint. I mean because he
like popped up and he wanted to go, but he
showed good restraint there, but then just could couldn't hold it.
You know when Williams went to the basket, right.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Yeah, I think so. And then I mean, you know,
in terms of wind up and wind up and intent,
which is you know, which is part of the criteria
of assessing these things. You know, I would say Williams
had a lot more wind up and intent when he
hit Rudy in the head than Rudy did when he
(12:47):
hit him in the ribs.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
Right.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Uh. The Chris Finch, coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Courtesy
of Second Harvest Heartland and a two Harvest dot or
Chris is on the board referee Tyler Ford, I don't know, well,
you know, but how about his explanations after the flagrance.
I mean he's like, he asked, Tyler what time it is?
He's going to tell you how the watch was built?
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, listen, it's become a bit of
a thing, you know, these post review explanations, you know,
become a bit of a thing. There's a few referees
around the league and getting known for it. Honestly, I
think it's a it's you know, it's a bad look.
You know, make the call, get away from the monitor
(13:29):
and let's move the game along. That's really where it
should be.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
And too bad with that Rudy ejection. Too man, he
had fifteen to eight and five offensive rebounds, you know
before he got tossed and after that did in what
ways did Phoenix take advantage of, like being around the
rim after and getting to the rim after Rudy's exclusion.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Well, they did a good job.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Of finding Willins down there in the dunker spot when
they would penetrate, you know, the turns. I think with
Rudy on the floor as much higher, maybe they don't
even go, but I thought where it really may have
heard us as offensively we were dominating him on the
offensive glass. Rudy was headed for a big game, and
you know that we really could have used his presence
(14:13):
at the offensive end is just as much as the
defensive vent.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
You up, you dusted off Bones Highland last night, Bones Highland,
what'd you like?
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (14:23):
It was you know, I said about twenty five games
in and it's time to you know, shuffle it up
a little bit. Bones has been uh, really really patient,
and you know, oh is you can't play all these
guys all the time. So sometimes you pick a path
and you see it out and you see what happens,
and then you know, Bones certainly deserved his chance to
(14:45):
play now, and he responded with with with good scoring.
You know we need we need some scoring, We need
some shooting, we need some handling, we need everything that
he can give us.
Speaker 7 (14:55):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
And you saw that last night, you know, and in
fifteen minutes of play. So it was good to see.
I was happy for him and hopefully we can build
on that.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Anthony Edwards seems to enjoy playing with Bones Highland.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Is that accurate?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Oh for sure. I mean Bones has got a great energy.
I think a lot of his teammates enjoyed playing with them.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
For Phoenix, No Booker, no Devin Booker did. Did Does
that change? How does that change the way they play? Well?
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I mean they played very similar and all kind to
Booker for having kind of adopted and folded into this
new style of play which they're playing. You know, it's
less Iso driven, it's less certainly less star driven, because
they just don't have that component to their roster. They
play a lot more up tempo, they move the ball quicker,
their decision making is quicker. Certainly Booker is at the
(15:52):
heart of a lot of that. But you know where
they're going to miss the most, or where they do
miss the most is kind of on demand scoring and
in clutch games scoring. Now against us, he found out
in game one they were able to to get the money,
as you say, by making big shots down the stretch.
Speaker 8 (16:10):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
In game two they did the same thing. So you
know in that regard, they haven't missed him against us
in two games. But of course he's a great player.
You're always gonna always gonna miss those guys.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Right with back to bones for a second. With with
with bones Highland is part of this. You're not not
only looking for bench scoring or scoring, especially during the
night where where you guys just weren't hitting as many
shots as you normally hit. But with bones, are you
looking for a spark or consistency at the point guard spot?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yeah, absolutely, no doubt. I mean we need we need
to we need off the bench scoring, you know, playmaking,
all the things that he can do. Uh. And you
know he's got he's got you know, he's been in
a league now number of years, got enough experience that
you know he kind of can figure out things and
fit right into it. He knows who he is right now,
(17:03):
who he needs to be for us. But yeah, you know,
if Nas hasn't been scoring for us off the bench,
then our bench scoring is very kind of inconsistent.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Sons coach Jordan not a Pennsylvania native. Do you know
the guy at all?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
I do not.
Speaker 6 (17:21):
I do not.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Yeah, he and and you.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Know, I'll watch the Suns every so often with Booker
or without and and you know it's without Devin. They
lack star power, as you said, But he has those
guys playing hard. He has them playing a scrappy brand
of basketball, doesn't he He does.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
He's done a great job of coming in and kind
of changing the style of play and the way they play.
And you know, he's got a bunch of guys that
are super hungry, you know, and just maximizing his roster
right now.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Hey, last one, thanks for the time. Jaden McDaniels. What
do you think happened last night? Forty minutes one of
seven shooting after really really playing well during that five
game winning streak.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Yeah, I'm not sure. You know, sometimes you're gonna have
these games. But I think the biggest thing is we
got to get him more shots than just seven, you know,
I think we got to get him up ten twelve
shots at least a game, you know, and he generally
gets those shots in a variety of ways. You know,
he's one of our best transition players. We didn't really
get create enough transition opportunities last night. You know, I
(18:30):
thought the Kickout game was inconsistent at times throughout the
game got better, but yeah, we just got to find
a way to get him more shots in the flow
of offense. When we do, two things happen. He plays
really really well and we play really really well, and
we got to always remember that.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Man.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Go win a Golden State Friday. We'll be pulling for
you from afar.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Okay, all right, thanks Pa, take care yeh.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
See about Chris Finch, coach at the Minnesota Timberwalls part
of the Timber Tech What's on deck? Setlist? A couple
of things right now. First and foremost, I just opened
the tweet machine. Do you remember that time when I
was in Key West and you had to call me
and say, Paul, that tweet on which you just opined
(19:18):
that you thought was from Adam Schefter was a fake tweet.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Yeah, it was from Adam Shafter thank you.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
So then Adam Spleefter, So then I immediately deleted it.
So before I click on this, Colts bring back forty
four year old Philip Rivers amid quarterback injuries.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
He did a workout last night. Okay, so that's not
an Adam Spleefter. No, that's a real thing that's happening.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
So bringing back as opposed to signing and going with well,
those are two different things.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I'm assuming what I read yesterday is cow is because
and I forget it is it Riley Leonard I think
is the backup QB, and so he's dealing with an injury.
I think this is a combination of the team scene
if he can actually do it, and then him deciding
if he actually wants.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
To do it.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah so I but it is actually a real thing.
Philip Rivers worked out with the Colts, I believe last night.
So you did not get Adam Schefter or spleeftered or
any of that. That's that's real news. That's actually happened
in the twenty twenty five season.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
And when we.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Completed the nine to Noon or yesterday something popped about
the Colts considering talking to him. I'm like, okay, whatever, Yeah,
but now the bringing back Wow, Holy Cow, desperate times,
call for desperate measures, all right. And secondly, Chris Finch,
thank you very much, ma'am. It's the Friday Football Feast,
I hop segment in honor of Paul, where we just
(20:41):
started with, you know, we just started a little baby
fantasy game with Nordo Alec and yours truly, and then
fantasycares dot Org stepped up last week and said, we
want to get fifty dollars per point to each of
your teams. And I think it's like fifty four, fifty
two forty right now.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
So well you got.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
One, you Kincaid, right? I thought Kincaid got a touchdown?
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Did he?
Speaker 2 (21:03):
I thought I scratched off of him because you guys
scared me. It was going to be questionable. Oh who'd
you end up going with it? I couldn't remember, but well,
here's the thought.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
It was Warren.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Here's the cool thing. Maybe it was Warren. I will
have to go back and listen to it. Trey McBride.
So that I felt like seven touchdowns in seven straight games,
that that in his last seven, that that was going
to be as can't miss as it gets now. They
were absolutely just blown out, by the Rams this weekend.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Yeah. But the cool thing about.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
This is now that there's actually a guys just said
actually about fifty times in the last two minutes here.
Now that there's a charity element to this, I found myself.
I mean, he had Bears Packers and that felt like
a playoff game. I was watching this Rams Cards game
and begging Jacoby Brissette to stop throwing it to the
other team, stop throwing it was Michael Wilson or whoever
(21:53):
the heck it is. I was actually watching there we
go again. I was watching this blowout game. Let's stop being.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Wound up over or a word in the English language
because you're not using it like Avea Stella or my
daughter Nicole Actually yeah, and actually dad, so yeah, you're
using it in context and it's fine. I think I've
used the word ninety five times so far. So continue.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
I needed McBride to get into the end zone.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
And that's the cool part about this, the charities behind it, actually, Nordo,
And now I'm finding myself begging for the Cardinals in
just a complete fleeting effort, late stages of a season
where they are a three or four win team, and
where's Kyler and Jacoby Brissett throwing it to the wrong guys.
I just I love that we're able to do this,
(22:38):
and just big props to to Scott Fish for uh
and Fantasy Cares for supporting it.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
I just listened to the whole thing back.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Yes, I did have Dalton kincaid, so that gives that
gives me sixty points.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
That's great, which means no, it is great.
Speaker 7 (22:51):
That's the thing.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
It is great because it's it's another three hundred dollars.
Yeah to second Harvest Heartland when you get hot next week.
I think with wide receivers there we go feed my
starving children. Is going to philanthropically profit, Yes, and the
Kyrie Jackson Fund for a foundation for young Alex.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Gosh, that pickens pick kind of makes sense. But I
can't do it. Well, well I have to, or I
can do it. What do I have to now?
Speaker 2 (23:17):
I mean I asked Finchy give me a wide receiver,
which I put him on the spot, you know when
he's thinking about you know, like Royce O'Neil getting to
the basket dunking, no stifle to block the shot, because
he stifled Mark Williams Ribs with a little forearm shiver.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
So he probably didn't have the vikings schedule in front
of him, did he?
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Or is he that diabolical after a tough loss to
the Son.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Now he's just thinking of the I mean that that's
why I started with this today with Finchy with the
Fantasycares dot Org Second Harvest Heartlamb. He's on the board
that that's my selected charity with Fantasycares dot Org and
thank you again Scott Fish. But I think he was
just he was brain boggled by stifle ejection. Yeah, by
the Sons getting to the basket with players nobody's ever
(24:04):
heard of, like Ryan Dunn. And then he gets home
and he's like, well, at least my iggles are going
to get their ninth victory, and then Jalen throws four
picks and they lose in ot to Dicker the kicker.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
I think he had two turnovers on the same play. Yeah,
there was a moment he threw he threw a pick
and then I believe that was fumbled and he may
have turned it over a second time within the same sequence.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
So he's paar shaped that whole thing.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
And you nailed it though off air, you're just like
they aitually they just need to you actually did I think, actually, Dad,
they want to get they would they just want to.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
Get to the postseason?
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (24:42):
Well they Yeah, I mean but see that you mess
around though, And but that's.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Analogous to the Timberwolves and a common thread last year
I had with Finch and a common thread this year
I've had with Finchy that I didn't really want to
get into today. But it's with the Timberwolves. They just
look like they think they have some push button to
them where we're going to push the button. We're gonna
win all the right games, get to the Western Conference Finals,
see what happens there.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
How would you approach that with him?
Speaker 6 (25:06):
Though?
Speaker 3 (25:06):
I think that that would be difficult because in some way,
I mean, that is an indictment of the mentality of
the team. If it is a situation in which whether
it's aunt I mean, the lack of a point guard,
you love the forty point performances, but also you would
say the ball could get sticky once in a while.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
I watched that question, but I think you knew what
I meant.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
The inconsistent play of the Jaden McDaniels of this roster,
and you're just you're begging for that consistency there. That'd
be a tough topic to broach me, I think in
terms of me push button nature.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
But if you and I were just chatting, you know
about the Anthony bit that that I kind of botched
because I couldn't read my handwriting with a fency. Fenci
was basically like brop. I would just let Anthony beat
everybody off the dribble, get to the basket every single
time until they find a way to stop it. However,
if you do that, then Julius and McDaniels and Evincenzo
(25:57):
and everybody'd be like, what happened? How come I never
get to touch the ball? This guy's touching it every
time and he's never passing. See, that'd be like the
way I'd want to say it, but you can't say that.
You can't say it that way to Finchy.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
Finchy.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Well, when Jayden's scoring twenty five points and he's active
defensively in all of those things, you absolutely love it.
But then you see Knights like last night we're one
to seven. I wish he took six fewer shots. I
would have liked to see Aunt get those extra opportunities,
go for fifty, go for sixty. Just let her let
her rip on a night like he potentially could have
had last night.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Now they could. They couldn't stop him off the dribble.
Then they started to double. He would kick and the
others miss threes. Like again, Anthony and Randall were five
of eleven from three Devincenzo, Mike Conley, nas Reed, Jaden
McDaniels at all. They were just terrible, I mean, not bad,
terrible from three point range.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
And the Timberwolves lost a close one. But thank you, Chris.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
More money coming the way of Second Harvest Heartland and

They're a Clearwater, Minnesota company, but they actually provide awesome
product too, which you'll love.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
So check out Thousand.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Hills and we love seeing steps forward for the quarterback.
The thing I'm pondering, and we'll hear a bit of it,
I assume with Kevin O'Connell joining us at eleven o'clock
is kind of what's next in the what's next plan?
So you come off this thirty one nothing shutout. It's,
you know, the terminology we've heard kind of the simplification
(29:39):
of the offense and that the coach was talking to
himself yes and talking about it himself yesterday. Lack of
explosives but seeing efficiency offensively. So I'm just curious under
the bright lights of Dallas on Sunday night. How quickly
do you start to push the pedal down on the
kit again? Because as we we did the dissection and
(30:01):
the anatomy of a drive yesterday, the nineteen play Marathon drive,
and it was beautiful and it ended with a Mason
Jordan Mason touchdown. As enamored as we are with that,
the offense is begging to stretch it out and the
long term growth of this process is getting the kid
more confident in the pocket and finding those opportunities downfield.
(30:22):
I just wonder what's next in the what's next plan?
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Do you ponder that at all? Pa?
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Not really.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Earlier earlier in the season, I did because I would
watch things back and I would see exactly what you
were talking about, But I also would see sacks or
players missed, or things that just weren't able to be accomplished.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
For whatever the reason.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
The multiple offense of the like twenty two offensive line
combinations played into that. So now, in watching this one
back the I didn't see a dramatic amount different when
it comes to downfield routes because it's just things are
so layered with football plays where, for instance, in the
(31:06):
Seahawks game.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yes, the Seahawks game.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
There were three players, Jefferson, Addison and I think Naylor
who purposely ran straight down the field, like thirty forty
yards down the field and they were never getting the ball.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
CJ.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Hamm was going to get it after chipping an offensive
lineman and it was a third and very long, but
I think he could have run for fifteen to twenty
and he ran and somebody ran into him, so it
kind of took him off the bit and it blew
and it blew.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
The play up.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
So there you see players running down the field and
perhaps your discernment gets you to, well, they're still going
down the field. Why aren't we throwing it that far
down the field. Well, it's clear that was not the
play design on that play, the Addison play that we
talked about yesterday during the nineteen and ninety eight and
i'll bring up today with O'Connell that that is such
(31:57):
a positive step for JJ McCarthy and downfield striking went
for twenty one yards, but clean pocket, everybody fan to
the outside, quarterback stepped up, quarterback fired and it went
for twenty one yards and it was a long throw
from the.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Right side over to the left sideline.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
So I'm just looking for the incremental steps taken with
what you're talking about, Jefferson, with you think downfield, and
it may may not necessarily be the proverbial bomb, but
Jefferson can catch it at fifteen or twenty and turn
it into fifty, sixty or seventy. Yeah, well, clearly that's
not happening. Four catches fifteen yards in the last two games.
(32:37):
So it's just incrementally watching the development of your A
topic through us being cows running away from the storm
and subsequently getting toppled or being the bison and running
into it. So we can just get through it quicker,
but it may be a little more painful through all
of that. The A topic, as you repeat it, say,
(33:00):
is the development of this quarterback. Yes, and following the
nuance of this quarterback to see what improves specifically on
a game by game basis the pocket awareness and stepping
up in a perfect pocket. I loved it from last game.
Let's do it again Sunday night. Bikes bites, and I
think that'll that'll lead to Brett. It's not Vike's bite
(33:24):
stop that you snot knows, kid, It's bikes bites, and
I do think that that incrementally will give them opportunities
to get down the field.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
Though.
Speaker 7 (33:34):
I like that the left guard Donovan Jackson.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
I saw this this quote yesterday from the KO presser.
Donovan Jackson is playing through an injury that might have
held others out for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 7 (33:46):
He would not be denied playing in.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
The football game doing everything he possibly could. Two angles
to this, like what's up with this wrist and then
the ankle thing. So a couple of nick up injuries.
We know a lot of guys play hurt ye over
the course of a football season. Any overarching opinions as
we close out his rookie campaign Donovan Jackson first round pick.
I really felt like this was a guy that you
(34:11):
could plug in and was kind of a home run
in totality. Some ups and downs for him and pass
protection and such. I've really liked what Donovan Jackson has
brought to the moving company when he's on the field,
and it's clear the.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Head coach likes that when he says what he said yesterday,
and that's part of the KO mix an hour and
a half from now, praising Donovan Jackson for playing through
paying and Karen Well, when he presents it the way
he did, it is fair for people to read between
the lines and my estimation and wonder, all, right, where
(34:46):
are you sending that message? But it's unfair to implicate
anybody if you don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 7 (34:54):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
So that's the best way I can frame that up.
When coaches talked like that, they know everybody's gonna hear it, yeah,
and they know that potentially a message has been sent.
But the question is what is the message and to home?
But I love Donovan when we started the when we
started the dry bys, I was going to go down
(35:14):
the road with him, man.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
I mean, I know you're playing through pain.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Right now, but I couldn't figure out how to get there,
so I just turned it into deron pain. But he
you know, this is somebody who played with a broken
wrist basically refused to step away, and they're like, no,
you're not playing with this. We're going to fix it.
Then you come back, they hit on that first round
or he's good. Now, he's gonna be a lot better
moving forward.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
As Vikes Bites has Eric Wilson and maybe a guy
who played with him next segment, Anthony Barr probably knows
a little bit about Eric Wilson. Yeah, has Eric Wilson
played himself into his spot as he enters free agency?
We're re signing this cat tied for the lead, I
think on the team with sacks five and a half.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Fifteen tackles for which is number one on the team.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Has he played himself into a spot where maybe re
signing him is actually actually dad and an off season
priority for the Purple. I kind of think he has.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Yeah, I've been thinking about that a little bit of
late because I think I think he's coming up to
his tenth year. He's either in his tenth or he's
coming up to it. And Barr did play four seasons
with Wilson, and Anthony is all over praising Eric Wilson
right now.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
That's kind of what triggered the chack coming up. In
about eight minutes.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Cool was us chatting about Eric Wilson, e Will as
he calls him the other day. But that's tricky because Eric,
with what he got on this one year deal coming
from Green Bay, they brought him here as a as
I'm certainly not speaking for the team, but just looking
at the way things laid out in training camp in
early you know, kind of a linebacker related insurance plan. Yes,
(36:54):
but somebody very good on special teams and gets things
all squared away on special teams.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
Well, I've and paid.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Junior barely can get on the field now because Wilson
ain't coming off the field And these tackles for loss,
I mean that tenacity that he shows to get off
blocks and get guys by the line of scrimmage. It's
a work of art. It's that of ferocity and tenacity
and caring. And he you know, he's going to finish
the season with more than twenty tackles for loss. His
(37:20):
fifteen this year is more than he's had in the
last five years. So yeah, he's on fire. He's played
himself into a fair amount of cash. Question is do
they have the cash to resign him? What will it
take and how long that all will be solved in
the off season the con And that's Vikes Bites as
we want to pause and we want to hear from
Anthony Barr for a little Coveny.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Catch up with him and Vice Bites always brought to
you by Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed grass fed.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
B bv b fee yep ab bab joins nine to
noon around the corner on FM one hundred point three
ky f a n Here comes Anthony Barr, a former
game changing linebacker for Mike Zimmer's Vikings starting back in
(38:09):
twenty fourteen, and Anthony Bar joins nine to noon now
following via x if you are so inclined at Anthony
bar and five to five as he wore, here is
on the nine to noon show. Anthony, it's Paul Allen.
Great chatting with you. What's going on?
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yay?
Speaker 6 (38:25):
My god? What is the word? How we doing?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Hey, ma'am?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
It was great seeing you this weekend. I see you
got that Barry White voice. Working early on a southern
California morning, sneaking up on eight am, so Cal Time,
ten o'clock Cornfield's time. Let me ask you this, did
did you change your Twitter handle? And if so, why
because I could swear that thing used to be like
at THEAB or something.
Speaker 6 (38:49):
Yeah, that was man. That was early on probably my
second year. I think, thank you. Media came up to me.
Somebody came up to me and suggested it. This is
saying it'd be much easier to find you place your normal.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Name, and I was like, but maybe you didn't want
to be found.
Speaker 6 (39:07):
Yeah, I mean, I guess Twitter's not a place to
be if you don't want to be found. But yeah, yeah,
we cut the simple.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
I mean, you gotta be careful with stuff like that.
I mean, with all due respect, because like there were
X amount of years ago, your your former teammate who
you know, for all of his career, I would call
or we would call Xavier Roads. But then we caught word,
you know, I think directly from from Rhodes is like
like family or parents that his first name is actually
(39:36):
x Xavier Roads. Well, when he went from Xavier to Xavier,
the whole game fell off.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
I mean it was It's like it's like who is this?
Speaker 2 (39:44):
I mean, Xavier Roads shuts down ob j on Sunday
night football and throws him into the bench.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
So they gotta be careful of stuff like that, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
I hear you. I hear you.
Speaker 7 (39:55):
Uh you.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
By the way, when I saw you, you and Audie Call,
former linebacker for the Vikings, you guys picked a good
one to attend Sunday. It was great seeing you, But
holy cal how about that shut out victory?
Speaker 6 (40:08):
Man, they shut up. They played well, you know, offensive, decisive,
moving the ball down the field. Defense was doing what
they've pretty much been doing all season, you know, and
in special teams, and I think that was the big
you know, the phase it's kind of been struggling maybe
the most, and they you know, they put good games.
So it was a good, well rounded team victory and
it was good to get back and the win. Call them.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
The genesis for me requesting you come on the radio
show was when you came up to the box box
where we call the games.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
I mean it was fleeting.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
It was a brief exchange, but I mean, like, you know,
after embracing, I was like, E will though, and then
you opened your eyes and you knew I was talking
about Eric Wilson. Now Anthony played. Anthony played four seasons
here with Eric Wilson, and Eric has a team high
fifteen tackles for loss At this stage of his career.
I mean, it's it's a wonderful hit, not only in
(41:00):
free agency, but at this point of his career. The
way Eric's plan, what do you think?
Speaker 6 (41:07):
Honestly, not too surprised, you know, I think he's a
guy caming in for Cincinnati undrafted and he just usually
always had his hard head, always got to work, and
then when he got his chances to play like significant
game time, he always performed. I think I was out,
uh maybe it was a twenty twenty season or one
of the seasons up I missed a few games, and
(41:27):
he was just doing his thing, sax picks, and it's
just it's just kind of what he does. It's not
too surprising, I think for me, just because I've seen
him do it. But it's just the opportunity, you know.
I think that's everything about this league is getting a chance,
and then when you get your chance, what are you
gonna do with it? And he's one of those guys
that always takes advantage of his opportunities. And it's just
it's great to see because he's such a good dude,
(41:47):
good person, great football player, great family, and so it's
always good to see him have success.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
I'm very happy for him, and it just it just
shows you, I mean, how how different football can be
compared to other sports. I mean, like like John Randall,
the greatest three technique, one of the greatest three techniques
in the history of the game. Hall of Famer. I
mean he's undrafted, you know, and then he ends up
having a career like that. Wilson's undrafted and he's and
he's had himself a nice career here and with Green Bay,
(42:15):
you know, making it about a decade. But now you
get an opportunity they believe in you where it's like,
you know, people can focus on whatever negative they want,
so they could be like maybe it was like this
when Air came into the league and you were on
the team, like, all right, well, his pass coverage and
his drops and things like that, I just don't know
if we can trust it. But then he'd come into
(42:35):
the game and he'd force a fumble or he'd get
a sack or a massive tackle for loss or a
tip pass at the line of scrimmage, like you said,
but it now here for the first time with Flores,
with the way they work things here, clearly it's conducive
to his success. But you know what, he has to
come through with it. So you know, he has to
he has to study it and come through with it
(42:57):
and get off these blocks and at you know, definitely
in the second half of his career, he's absolutely sitting
on the biggest contract he's ever gotten.
Speaker 6 (43:06):
Right, Yeah, I would hope. So, I mean, I would
really hope. So he deserves it, He's earned it, and
I would love to see him stay in Purple. You know,
I think he's been arguably the best player on the
team this year. You know, if you if you go
up and down the roster and you look at guys
who's been performing, well, you know there's other guys that
have been playing good two regimends, you know, another guy
(43:27):
who could talk about, but we're talking about just a
guy that's been showing up weekend and week out and
performed at a high level, and the stats kind of
back it up and he passes the eye test. I
don't I don't know why you would let some guy
like that, You know, a guy like that leave your
lead your building, you know, especially with how he is
in the locker room as well. You know, he's a
great locker room guy. I mean, he's playing all the
(43:47):
special teams, still playing sixty snaps of game. So it's
one of those guys you don't want to let go
and lose because of what he kind of brings cultureally,
and know what he brings on.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
The field, Anthony, I think, you know, I think when
you stepped away from the game. Yeah, I think one
of the first things you probably said, I don't remember it,
but by faith, I'm going to roll with it. That like,
you know, hey, what what's something you're going to miss
about the game? And generally most people would be like
the locker room, the friendships, the camaraderie, the private conversation. Well,
that that's the case for you, right, Yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (44:20):
Mean amongst other things. You know, I think you know,
obviously the game itself is missed to an extent, but
the relationships are are for sure what kind of lasts
longer than obviously your career, and there are things that
you remember, kind of hang on to and kind of
can point to as you know, kind of core memories.
But also the competitiveness, you know, the competing going out
(44:41):
there and playing against you playing a kids game against
growing men, and you know, being able to line up
and hit somebody without any repercussion. You know, like it's
accumulation of things that you missed. But when when you
talk about you know, just being in the locker room
and being around the guys, that definitely is something that
stands out.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Well, the reason I brought it up because when when
when I saw you, you were with you know, former
linebacker Addie Call and it you know, when it comes
to the camaraderie and the friendship that you guys would
have that really know, nobody would know about unless you're
at like events like like it had me think about
the Chad Greenway Monday Night charity events where you Audi Call,
(45:18):
Eric Kendricks, Mike, Maddy, and Andrews and Daho and Harrison Smith,
I mean, and Harrison's young in his career, man, and
you guys would come in there to Manny's and just
steal the show. It's like Andrews and Dajo's America's best friend.
But like you Maddy and aud And and Audi Call,
I mean, you guys were really close.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
Yeah, boys, we.
Speaker 6 (45:39):
Ran deep, man. We did almost everything together, you know,
from off season hangouts to you in season, you know,
being in the locker room at all, you know, together
all throughout the week. So yeah, those are guys that
you know, I've been in their weddings and I've seen
their kids playing. Now Audi has his fourth on the way,
and I was over at Harry's house playing with his
you know, his oldest son. So it's kind of cool.
(45:59):
You was the full circle moment really, and it's good
to keep those relationships. And like I said earlier, there
not just good players, but just really good people and
people that you really enjoy want.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
To be around.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
This is Anthony barr At Anthony bar Via, ex former
Vikings linebacker played for the Dallas Cowboys for a fleeting moment.
Who who's the best quarterback with whom you played during
your career? Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins or other?
Speaker 6 (46:28):
Yeah, I would say I would say probably other. Yeah.
I mean, no disrespect to either of those guys. I
think right now that's probably playing the best out of everybody.
But the quarterback I think was my my personal opinion,
I think Case keenan man. He was. He was just
(46:49):
the perfect fit for that season and a half or
however long he was starting. Obviously Teddy was you know
a lot of love for him, coming in the same
draft classes and kind of growing up and obviously his
debut is sitting, you know, career altering injury kind of
changed his compass a little bit. But in regards to
just like game, just being a gamer and showing up
(47:11):
and playing ball, like Case was one of those guys,
it just it seems like he's just playing in the
backyard at all times. And it there was such a smile,
like such a spirit, like an infectious attitude that he
was one of my favorites to play with. And he
was arguab that season that he had, season and a half,
two years, whatever it was, was just a great run
and it was really fun to be a part of.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
Are you are you following Danil Hunter and those Houston Texans?
Speaker 6 (47:36):
Oh yeah, I mean, I mean Theniel was just he's
just nasty. He's I mean, he just never stops, you know,
just we all know how he was here. But it
doesn't matter really seem to matter what colors he's wearing.
He's a problem for anybody.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
During just a couple of close here for a b
Anthony Barr super cool that that he got up early
to join nine to now. During the shutout at Seattle,
all right, Vikings get shut out of Seattle, Anthony offered
a quote safe space for grieving fans end quote on X.
I mean I went back reading through that thing last night.
(48:10):
I mean, you were responding to everybody, and there was
one of there were several that jumped out, all right
with Dallas Turner. You wrote, when patience meets confidence meets opportunity.
He's twenty two years old. You started your career at
twenty two years old. How tough is it at that
age versus these grown men veterans.
Speaker 6 (48:34):
It's I think it's more than that. Those deeper than
the physical side. It's the mental aspect. And I'm sure
what he's being asked to do. Some of the subject's
being asked to do and flow system is something that's
never done before. And it was similar to Manka on
the first season playing with them. You know, I never
played off the ball linebackground was on the ball linebacker
my whole career in college. So when you're switching positions
(48:55):
and you're asked to have your eyes in different places
and dissect plays differently, and it's not just okay, you're
gonna rush the passer to go forward and to go
straight and make a guy miss. There's a lot that
you have to process as a young player, and you
have it comes with experience. You're not going to be
a lot of you know, some guys can you know,
show up right away and have success immediately, but some
guys need some time to kind of get their feet
(49:15):
under them, and you know, now he was the second
year now and I think he's starting to find his
footing and he's playing with confidence, which is the biggest
key in the NFL. Everybody you need to think you're
the best player at all times so you're not gonna have
no success. And then the coaching staff has been patient
with them, you know, and now he's getting more opportunities
to go and play plays game and you're kind of
seeing all the all that come to fruition. So it's
(49:38):
really cool to kind of see how he's evolved and
success over the last year and a half.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
Well, I love that and kind of in the same
vein because he's twenty two years of age and I
think just a little bit older than JJ McCarthy or
younger than they're both twenty two years of age. All right,
it's just weird. I mean, JJ McCarthy's ten days younger
than my daughter. And and you know, he took the
step Sunday, but that's what it was. It was a step,
(50:03):
and and next season is going to be very important
for him. But another part of that safe space tweeting
that you went nuts with a couple of Sundays ago
was and it's hard to frame it up with talking
about franchise that drafted him, you know, having to keep
believing in him through next year, where there will be
some road bumps most likely. But that's such a big
(50:26):
key the the the franchises not giving up on certain
things simply because it's not working on their timeline.
Speaker 6 (50:34):
Now.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
I don't believe that'll be a problem here, but you're
dead right with that. When when when you tweeted that, ma'am.
Speaker 6 (50:41):
Yeah, I think especially you know, with the young quarterback
obviously the confidence is a is a big thing and
having that experience, but I forget he's been talking about
maybe Tom Brady mentioned that, you know, a couple of
years ago, just how quickly teams kind of move on
from young quarterbacks, and how a lot of young quarterbacks
aren't painting out the way that maybe should or people
thought they should, just because they're not kind of given
(51:04):
that time. And we understand that it's a win now
type of league and the expectations are to go out
and win football games, and if you have a you know,
god that's not performing the way you are expecting, then
something's gonna have to make. You know, you want to
make some type of change and not everything needs to
be a drastic change, And I think the vice being
patient with him and allowing him to kind of have
his struggles, like that's that's only going to be better.
(51:26):
We'll only get a benefit and maybe he'll shake his
confidence a little bit. But you have to let him
go and get those game experiences, get those game reps,
and fail. Like failure is, it's not as the negative
thing as everyone makes it out to be. Like you
kind of need to fail, whether it's in football, whether
it's in life like that sets kind of the table
for success and the only way you're going to have
success is through failure. So it was really cool to
(51:48):
see him go out and play well Sunday, kept you know,
relatively simple, made quick throws it on time, and then
make some improv players when he had to, he uses legs,
which he's very good at. So yeah, just give the
guys some time. You know, it's not what everyone wants.
We don't want to be patient. We're not in a
society where you know, where we want everything right now.
It's a it's a kind of a now society that
(52:10):
we're living in. But football is a whole different game.
So I would, I would, you know, continue to be
patient with the kid, let him do his thing, and
who knows, who knows where he's gonna be. You know,
I don't, I don't, you don't. But give him a chance, all.
Speaker 2 (52:21):
Last one here, man, that one season with Dallas, just
even just one season part of a season being there,
What what is it like being a Dallas cowboy in
the city of Dallas.
Speaker 6 (52:32):
Yeah, it's a it's different, you know, it's it's a
different I had a good experience. I enjoyed my time there.
I would say it feel like football was always the
number one priority in the building. You know, there's there's
a lot going on in that in that building, they
share it with a few other companies. So when you're
walking to your meetings or you're walking to lunch, you know,
(52:52):
you're walking by, you know, random people that have nothing
to do with the team, and it kind of feels
like that takes away from like the sanctity of the core.
You know, it takes away from just kind of the
pureness and and how like precious being on a team.
Is that being said, the community treats, you know, those
players like rock stars and you can do no wrong
and you have a lot of leeway, you have a
(53:14):
long leave shout there, but then at the end of
the day, you know you're playing football. So it's a
it was a cool experience something I'm I'm glad I
was able to have something. I you know, I have
still had relationships with guys on those teams, like Michael Parsons,
you know, talk to him often, and they're just good dudes.
You know. You know, at any locker room, you're going
to find a locker room full of good, solid people.
(53:34):
That was the same in Dallas. I would just say
the way the operation was was a little different than
what I was accustomed to coming from Minnesota. But not
to say it's good or bad or indifferent. It was
just it was just, you know, kind of how they
do things.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
Hey man, great catch up, look forward to seeing you more.
Come to more games. Man, a they shut out when
you're there. I'm well, you should be there Sunday night.
I mean, you should do the coin toss, ladies and
gentlemen former Minnesota Viking and then Dallas cowboy Anthony Barr
with the coin toss.
Speaker 7 (54:02):
That'd be sweet.
Speaker 6 (54:03):
That'll be awesome, man, Thanks jig Man. I will be
catching up, See you boy.
