Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ezekiel twenty five seventeen.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
The path of the righteous man is beset on all
sides by the inequities of the selfish.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
And the tyranny of evil men.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and
good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness,
for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder
of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee
with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to
(00:35):
poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my
name is the law when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
I say, do.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I'm so.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Whatever you won't do is an all.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
So friend. I want to spend month life.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
I did not hear a minute of Vikings Football Sunday,
but I'm assuming I should say Gophers Football Sunday. It
was extremely celebratory in the wake of the Golden Gophers
annihilation of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Good Morning Sunday Sermons one
hour edition of the show. My name is Dan Barrero.
(01:55):
I am the usual host of the program. Brett blakemore
generally is with me. He is out this weekend part
time guy Max. Good to see you, man. I Hey,
you were on you were yesterday in the Were you.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
In the zoning as well? Yes, I was in the
zone exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
It just in time for the start of the National
Basketball Association season, which is finally almost upon us.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Right this week, right around the corner Wednesdays for the
for the wolfesay, who do we open against Portland? The
Portland Trailblazers. Sneaky they are. Don't sleep on the Blazers.
I'm telling you, don't. Don't do that.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
We can't do that anymore.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Everybody's coming after well not everybody's I guess everybody's coming
after Oklahoma City, but a lot of teams may be
coming after us. We will talk some Gophers, we will
talk obviously National Football League, the Vikings and Eagles right
here in the fan pregame show will start at ten
o'clock this very morning. We'll take text via the Bradshawn
(02:52):
Bryant KFE and text line.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
At six four six eight six.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
But since there's just there's just been a full hour
on the Gophers, let's start with trying to set the
table for Vikings versus the Philadelphia Eagles. I here's what's
interesting to me about Oh, there's a lot of good
talking points regarding this game, a lot of good matchup questions.
(03:23):
When we looked back before the season began and we
looked ahead at the schedule, I think, like a lot
of people, we thought this was the start of the
meteor part of the schedule. It still may well be
that that might well be the case, but it's also
possible that we've seen some vulnerability. In the case of
the Eagles, the Chargers do maybe do not look as
good as they started.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
So you know, who's to say.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I still think you're facing some good quarterbacks and some
good teams that have I think deserve a bit of
the benefit of the doubt. But this is kind of
what occurred to me. As much as we've talked quarterbacks
and you know who's going to start, who should start,
When does JJ come back, all of that stuff, it's endless,
(04:09):
right the speculation on it. I think we should start
talking a little bit about defense. First. The Vikings defense,
in terms of points allowed, has really not been all
that bad. They've they've not done two things that I
think are important, though there have been stretches where they've
(04:31):
allowed the other team to just keep possessing the football
and even if it doesn't end up in touchdowns, it
does prevent your offense from having the ball. And the
other thing we've not done very well is handled the run,
and obviously today at Saquon Barkley. So this seems to
be the test is the Eagles. Has the Eagles ground
(04:55):
game regressed and if it has, will we get further
evidence of it today? Or do the Eagles just need
to come up against a running defense that's been very
mediocre to this point. That's obviously going to be a
key factor. But I want to talk about quarterbacks. The
(05:19):
Vikings record I think is three and two. Is that correct, Max?
We're three and two at this point, that is correct.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Okay, can you name the three quarterbacks we've beaten so
far this season? Can you name them? I try to
put you on the spot. Michael Pennix Junior.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, we got it annihilated by that. They lost or
they beat Jake Browning.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
They beat Jake Browning, who is what a backup backup?
They beat Dylan Gabriel who is also a backup backup,
and they beat Caleb Williams. Okay, he's a starter.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, all right, And it's actually played in the last
few weeks better. I think it's fair to say, but
I don't think he had a guy who's established himself
as a great National Football League quarterback, and today they're
playing a great quarterback who lately hasn't played like it.
That's another interesting question to me. Is he regressing? Is
(06:12):
the Eagles passing game regressing? Or are we going to
be reminded today of how effective Jalen Hurts can be.
We have not beaten anybody at the quarterback position. That's
the moral of the story. This is we said from
when the schedule curse came out the first stretch of games.
Now we didn't know obviously Cincinnati was gonna have to
(06:34):
go with their backup. But the fact is we really
haven't been tested at all at the quarterback position in
any meaningful way in the games that we have won.
Now there's a chance that will change today. Can we
do something about that? Is there already enough doubt in
the minds of Jalen Hurts and other members of this offense,
the Eagles offense, that the Vikings can then take care
(06:56):
of business today.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I just feel like this is the first time we're
playing a legitimate quarterback now we've played Aaron Rodgers, who
is legit. We lost that game. Panix is not really
established yet as a great quarterback. We weren't even competitive
in that game, although that was largely because they ran
the ball up and down the field on us with
maybe the best running back right now in football. So
(07:20):
that to me is what makes this compelling, and it's
part of the reason why I was never going to
be happy with three and two through five games, especially
given the quarterback list we really have not We really
don't know what this defense is yet because the quarterbacks
they have faced and beaten largely have been average to back.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Them, will we get some of those answers today? I
hope we do.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
As I mentioned Brad Shawn Brian Cafe in text line
is six four six eight six. By the way, it
is official. Cashman is back. I don't think Van ginkle is.
I've not seen anything on him because a Texter has
asked about that. Cashman being back, though, is huge, one
would think, speaking of that this team's inability to handle
(08:14):
the ground game. Also, I where is the stat that
alec Lewis had today that got my attention?
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Let me see if I can thank that has confirmed out.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
That's what I thought. He had a stat that I
guess I had not been paying attention to. Let me
see if I can find it having to do with
with takeaways. Let me see if I can.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Find it.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Okay, here's the here's the Alex Lewis stat on turnovers
for offense. Vikings have turned them all over nine times
this season thus far, that's the third most in the
National Football League, and since koc took over in twenty
twenty two, the Vikings have committed eighty seven turnovers. That's
(09:07):
the third most in the league, behind the Cleveland Browns
in Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
That surprised me a little bit. I didn't.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I wasn't aware of that stati. If I was, I'd
kind of forgotten about it. And look, the game changes
every year.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
It gets more sophisticated and complicated blah blah.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Blah every year.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
But turning the ball over will still kill you no
matter how sophisticated.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Your offense can be. It becomes the great equalizer.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
It helps maybe lesser teams knock you off, it helps
better teams have an even easier time in knocking you off.
So and the Vikings defense at its best last year
was a takeaway machine.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Not so much this year. We had one great takeaway game.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
In fact, I think most of our takeaways were in
one game, the Bengals game.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, and other those of them have been from one person, that's.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
True, who maybe has a little revenge factor going today.
So that's another thing I think to keep an eye
on today. Can the defen because one of the ways
a defense is giving up yardage can nullify some of
that is good good takeaways giving the ball back to
the offense, especially if you do it in the other
(10:23):
team's territory in a good scoring opportunity. So all those
things I think are interesting subplots to today's game. The
last spread I saw this is still the Eagles by
a one and a half. Let me double check what
the latest is on that. By the way, if my
(10:43):
prediction capabilities are any indication the Vikings might be in
trouble today, because I have the Vikings winning and I
had the Golden Golphers losing to Nebraska.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
So I'm saying everywhere from one and a half to
two and a half two and a half, okay, fair enough.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
So, uh Friday, when we did the picks, I had
a pretty good feeling that the Vikings could rise up
a little bit today. I know they're gonna there's no question.
I think with Cashman back their ground, their run defense
should be better. I have to believe that Bflow has
(11:24):
spent the whole week concentrating on it, because I don't
think Saquon Barkley suddenly forgets how to run. And I
don't think he's too old yet where they say suddenly
the tread on the running back tire, it catches up
with you and and you're not the same player. I
find that difficult to believe. And there's one other cautionary
note here. The Eagles seem to be one of those
(11:49):
teams that thrives on I don't want to say disaster,
but on controversy, on internal strife. There are teams that
implode when those things happen. It feels like the Eagles
(12:10):
almost live for it. There were several stretches last year
right where it looked like they were coming apart, and
how did it end for them? So and by the way,
how did they win in the end? Great play at
the line o scrimmage And maybe that's the last point
we should make. But here before the first break is
that in the end. As much as we can talk
(12:32):
about Saquon Barkley and quarterback position and who the Vikings
have faced at the position, whatever, the games tend to
be determined by what happens at the line of scrimmage.
That was certainly the case Friday night when Minnesota just
utterly and completely destroyed another in an endless series of
(12:52):
overrated Nebraska Cornhusker teams. When will I learn, I swear
to God, I never learn to just not trust the
buzz that.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Nope, this Nebraska team's different.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
There's something different about them. Line play told the story
of that game without any question. Remember, the Gophers went
into the Nebraska game every bit as concerned about their
own ground game as you could say the Vikings in
terms of consistency on the ground, in terms of handling
(13:25):
the ground game, and what happened in the In that game,
for the first time this year against a meaningful opponent,
Minnesota had no difficulty running the football. It was largely
what what the straw that stir that that stirred the drink, So.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
We said, I.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Mean both teams have had the Vikings and the Gophers
similar difficulties stopping the run.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Gophers did a great job of that.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Maybe the Vikings can can gain some inspiration from that
as well. But in the end, line play, more than
whatever skill you have, ends up telling the tale. In
other words, if the Eagles get their defensive pressure back
of the line of scrimmage, well it's going to be
a long day for Carson Wentz or if guards he
(14:16):
has his way Max Brosmer before the day is done.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Let's face it, that's what ends up happening.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
If the Eagles offensive line open some holes for Saquon Barkley,
Barkley is going to be Barkley, right, So in the end,
it's meat and potatoes that largely will tell the tale.
Despite all the other interesting subplots involved with this club, we'll.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Get into some texts.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I want to talk a little bit more about the
Gopher victory and the ramifications of it against Nebraska on
Friday night, and we'll get into some other National Football
League items, maybe a little basketball. I don't know if
we should talk any hockey. Minnesottle Wild still having a
one on this road trip. They're patting themselves in the
back for a much better performance than the Yellow Bellied
(15:02):
Pig like effort the game before. But an L is
still an L no matter how you look at it.
So maybe dive into that a little bit and get
into a couple of other controversies before we wrap it up.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
At ten.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
It's a one hour edition of Sunday Sermons heading into
a Vikings Football Sunday.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Stay tuned, Dan. Two things.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
One, after defeating Nebraska, should we be negotiating with PG
on a lifetime contract?
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Two? Do you have information on where we can get
our commemorative print? No?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
I don't think you have to worry about the lifetime deal.
I don't think you have to get silly about it.
But I will tell you that it looked to me.
I watched pretty much every minute of the game Friday night,
and I kept waiting, do you know what?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Well?
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Again, I understand when you're doing a when you're a
national announcer and you're preparing for a local game, so
to speak, or a game matching two teams in this
case from University of Minnesota and Nebraska, that you develop
themes right, story angles, talkability items going into that game,
(16:46):
and even to sustain during the game. But can we
please stop with the Patrick Mahomes obsession as it pertains
to the Nebraska quarterback.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
I can't remember his name. You might have it Dylan, Honest.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
To god, I just, first of all, I think it's
downright creepy the way that Rayola copies in the huddle
between plays, the Mahomes like his arms up in the air,
and the whole thing is strange to me.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
It's like, but.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Beyond that, just because every once in a while, as
in the first half of that game, Rayola does pull
off a couple of nice circus plays. We're saying at halftime,
Patrick Mahomes, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
What you're talking about, and.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
I'm looking at the score, but I'm saying, they have
six points. How about the other overthrows, the nine overthrows,
how about holding onto the ball for twelve seconds? Stop
with the Mahomes stuff.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
It's just so bizarre to me.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
And even if I understand going in he's been really
good in the fourth quarter and he's got circus aspect
to what he does, but then you just sort of
watch it with a clear eye and you go, man,
he he misses a lot of plays and he didn't
have help from his offensive line. That's where I do
give Also, the Gopher coaching staff credit. They had a
(18:16):
very good plan against him, and what I've been told
is they like getting the rid of the ball quick.
I didn't see that attempt at all, other than maybe
the Gophers knew it and were sitting down on all
the short patterns and he didn't have any place to go.
I don't know, but the announcers seemed to keep waiting
(18:37):
because they had it. It was on the on my
legal pad. Fourth quarter, that's that's that's this kid's time.
Watch out, and demonstrably that's been true in some games.
But watch the game in front of you, pay attention
to what's going on on this night, and there was
frankly nothing I think that said whole thing's going to turn.
(19:00):
In the fourth quarter, Nebraska was dominated. This was one
of the few times in recent memory. I came away
from a game saying Minnesota utterly and completely out coached
their opponent, and in terms of execution, utterly and completely
outplayed their opponent as well. It was the most complete
victory I think for Minnesota in quite a while. It
(19:24):
was an outstanding performance. Now again, we may come to
learn that Nebraska. Nebraska's one of those schools because of
their previous glory. Everybody's constantly waiting for their back say
they're finally figuring it out. They I think, had moved
up to be ranked twenty fifth in the country, and
I think because people want it so much, they project
(19:48):
more greatness into them than is really there. Now, maybe
they'll turn around and win the rest of their games
this season. I don't know, but that did not look
like a top twenty five team to me, didn't even
look like a represent team. Now, maybe Minnesota had something
to do with that. As I said, I thought the
the the nine minute drive we had in the second half,
(20:10):
starting in the basically in our end zone, was clinical.
And what you saw from our quarterback and what you saw,
I think from the Gopher offense was getting rid of the.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Ball on time.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
And there were for me, too many plays when Rayola
just he may not have had a lot of places
to go for it, but then move around a little bit,
find to try to find a way to buy some time.
Have you ever heard have they ever run a screen
pass in Nebraska? If you have the kind of pass
rush that the Gophers were fashioning, it was very good.
(20:46):
I mean, at least give yourself, let's try it. I mean,
let's see they're getting through anyway, so let's let them
continue to get through, and let's see what we get
behind it on a screen or something. I didn't see
any of that, so I thought, you know, it was
comical to hear, Well, we all know the guy who
runs Nebraska, he's Penn State. You know, he's a Penn
(21:07):
State guy. And I'm thinking, if I'm Penn State, if
I'm a Penn State fan, do I am I inspired
after a game like that to throw the book, to
pay whatever it's necessary to get this coach? And I
know it's one game, but it was so thorough and
so one sided. I would if I would have great
(21:29):
concern about that as well. Interesting text came and this
is from Chris and this actually looks like this came
in actually during Gopher football Sunday with guardsy beat an
ordinary Cal team and stay within thirty of OSU, and
a win like that would have us talking playoff frustrating.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
That's going to be the interesting story moving forward.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I looked upon this Gopher season as an opportunity perhaps
to be the Indiana of twenty twenty five, because especially
the home schedule looked very inviting a lot of winnable
games even when you got to the Big Ten, and
then you had the two really tough games on the
road Ohio State and Oregon, where you say, well, you
(22:14):
might be able to lose both of those games and
still be in the mix if you run the table
on everything else. Well, that's where I hope the Gophers
don't come to regret losing to a very beatable cal
team on the road, and you can argue, what do
you have to stay a little closer to Ohio State
than they did? Not a lot of people are staying
(22:36):
all that close to Ohio State. We'll see, but I
do think the victory Friday gives them the opportunity to
sort of reclaim the season, right. It's one of those
victories that you can sort of change the perception of
a team. When you play that well and you win
that thoroughly against another Big Ten team that was ranked
(22:58):
again ranked five fifth, they'll not be ranked any longer,
I wouldn't think at this point. But I hope that
was my concern about losing the Cow game originally was
squandering you know, the big thing from PJ in the
offseason was take the lid off the jar as if
be delusional, as if we why can't we be Indiana
(23:21):
of twenty twenty five. That's there's some truth to that,
but that pretty much to me meant you were going
to have to run the table, including a victory over Cow.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
So we will have to to see. But they were.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
That was a that was a well played from a
Minnesota standpoint, a very well played game.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
And I will never this is my vow.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
I will never be talked into believing that Nebraska might
be on the verge of something taking a step up
any longer.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
I just won't do it. I will literally have to.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
I will wait until they go through an entire season,
get into the ball champ the National Championship Series, and
fashion a record of like ten and two or something
like that. I'm not gonna believe it any longer because
we've been down this road. How many times have we
been down this road with Nebraska that you know what,
there's something different going on this year? Did it look
like anything different was going I mean, were they even
(24:11):
ready to.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Play that game?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
They were never in that football game. The only exception
one long pass that was a good Rayla throw got dropped.
But other than that, I just didn't think it was.
It was a mismatch. I don't know how much of
it you saw.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
Yeah, I got to I got a chance to check
out a little bit of it, and it just kind
of like you were alluding to it. If I like
Nebraska just had a little too much dip on their chip.
They're like, Hey, we got Patrick Mahomes, we got the
guy that everyone in college football wants. We have one
of the top passing attacks in the nation. We're in Nebraska.
We're just gonna come through as guards. He was talking
about in Gopher football review, some analysts were saying they
(24:50):
were going to come in and score forty points and
run the Gophers out of the stadium. And not only
was it essentially the reverse, they got dominated, they weren't
in it for a second, but like you were talking about,
Dylan Reyola looked super unimpressive. A lot of those sacks
were covered sacks against a makeshift Gopher secondary that was
dealing with a bunch of different injuries heading into that game.
(25:11):
And then you get sacked eight different times in general
and thoroughly outplayed by the Gophers offense, which has been bumpy,
to say the least throughout the season. So I just
thought it was a really impressive performance and I like
the way that you said it.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
It can reclaim the season.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
Now. It felt like another season that was spiraling down
the drain into same old, same old. You know, people
aren't gonna turn on PJ. Fleck or anything. They love PJ. Fleck,
but it just kind of felt like people are already
getting disinterested in.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Yeah, another meandering season where you win an you know,
you win one and then you lose one and then
maybe you win two, but you don't have anything that
that feels more like signature.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Yeah, you go to the Raised Barbecue Sauce Bowl.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
You know, you play some team that got in because
of their grades, and that's another season that you can
kind of say, I guess was a success, but you
didn't go anywhere. But now, moving forward, they have a
real chance to make a significant step forward.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
And to do that, though, you know, there's no rest
for the.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Wicked because or the weary, because I think we were
in Iowa this week and I don't even think the
game time has been set yet. No, I think TV
and how that works, TV decides at the last minute.
But that's that's sort of a game again. And that's
a tough place to win, as even Indiana found out.
But you gotta you sort of gotta win it, you
know that. That's if you're gonna build on what this
(26:27):
seems to represent.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
That's what you gotta go do.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Because I certainly don't think it's an unbeatable Iowa team.
They're they're plucky, they make things interesting. They just beat
Penn Penn State's and now lost I think four in
a row. When's the last time Penn State Nitney Lions
have lost four straight games?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
I have an absolutely no idea. Let's get one more
break in.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
We'll mix in some texts regarding the Gophers with also
some more National Football League conversation, especially Vikings Eagles as well,
and then.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
I'll double check on that.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
I forgot we got another Europe game, right, it's a
it's the Jaguars and the Rams. Somebody is already suggesting
that Jacksonville is getting screwed on a number of bad calls,
that the fix is in for the Rams.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
I haven't been I forgot we even had a game again.
It's they're down fourteen rip right now to La. So
whether whether the fix is in or not in trouble
right now back in just The.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
Good news for Minnesota Vikings fans is that Blake Cashman
is back. He will be available for the Purple to
try to shore up what's been a very questionable rushing defense.
The bad news for Vikings fans it looks like Jalen Carter,
who's been listed as questionable, is going to play today
as well for the Eagles along their defensive front.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Your guy, Ian Rappaport.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Is among those saying that Carter will play against the Purple.
He was a full participant in Friday's practice, so I
don't know that there's been an official designation yet from
the field, but indication seems to be that's the way
this thing is going. A few techs and more on
(28:35):
the Vikings Eagles the rest of the way. Sue writes,
I'm interested in your take on the student section storming
the field after defeating the twenty fifth rank Huskers. Originally,
I initially was embarrassed, thought, really, it's not that big
of an upset, is it? Shouldn't we act like we've
been there? But I realized it's been more than a
minute since our last big win. These kids don't remember
twenty nineteen when we shot Purdue. Let them have their moment.
(29:03):
I you know, I've been in on this, the the
the debate for decades on storming the field, etiquette and
all that. I've reached a point with it where I
refuse to get that worked up over it anymore either way,
because as soon as I do, then people lose their minds.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Loot, the kids, have fun. What's the big deal?
Speaker 3 (29:26):
So fine, I'm weary of the whole process of the
defensiveness on the issue.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Here.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Here's the one thing I will say to me more
than anything else. What's storming the field in that environment,
in that situation, with that backdrop tells me is that
you're shocked that you beat twenty fifth Nebraska, twenty fifth
ranked Nebraska. That you're still stunned when Minnesota rises up
(29:54):
and wins a game that the odds makers said they
weren't supposed to win, which to me is not a
real good sign of the hell, both of the franchise
or of the program.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
But have at him.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
You want to celebrate, You want to go out there.
We know half the battle now is we want to
get on TV. We want our selfies on the field. Hey,
a bunch of other people are getting out there, so
we're going to get out there as well.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
So have at it.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
But in the end, as I said, more than anything else,
it tells me that you're like, we just beat Nebraska the.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Way we did.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
I didn't what I've just get out there, So I'm
not sure that's a compliment to the state of the program.
But if you want to go out there, I'm not
going to put you in prison. I'm not going to
say you need to go to jail. Clearly, nationwide, the
rules have changed. And I think for me, Max, what
(30:46):
dictates it more than anything else is we're in a
selfie age and I guarantee you if we could, if
there was a way to find them, we would find
I don't know, ten thousand selfies from the field if
we were able to survey the entire Internet. And that's
what's become. And so I don't think there's any thought
process that goes on. Wait a minute, let's see what's
(31:07):
what's Nebraska ranked before we.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Come out here.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
I just don't think people are thinking that. Clearly, it's
not going to be like I was going to go
out there. But you know, after all, they're ranked, they're
not even ranked in the top ten. They're twenty five, gladys,
We're not going out there. I just don't think anybody's
thinking that clearly. And there might occasionally be boos involved too, correct. Yeah,
is there boos at college games? Now?
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I can't remember.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
I would assume that there's whether they're being sold out
the hunted banks medium or not.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
There's boys.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
First of all, far far be it from me the
guy who took his shirt off running around here when
the Wolves made it to the Western Conference finals to
be the fun police and tell people did not have fun.
That was the Western Conference Finals, though, that is a
big deal. You know, it's a little bit bigger than
beating the twenty fifth ranked Nebraska but whatever in a
regular season game, right, But I think I think all
it takes is one person. It's like you were saying,
all it really takes is one singular person to go,
(31:58):
I'm gonna run out into the field, and then at
least ten people are going to follow them, and then
at least ten more and then pretty much the whole
stadium is on the field. And you're right, half of
it is people just wanting to kind of manufacture a moment.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
You bef it's not a moment a.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Manufacturer exactly right. So we're gonna make it a moment,
whether it should be or not.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Well, because somebody texted it's a lifelong memory for them,
and I'm going, really, I mean, you know, when you're
on your deathbed, you're gonna tell your kids and your grandkids. Johnny,
you remember the time we got on the we beat
twenty fifth rank Nebraska in the middle of a regular season,
(32:39):
and we all got out there here at the end,
there's nothing else I really want to think about.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Come on, I hope there's something greater there in the end.
I hope so as well.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
I think people forget We all like to think life
is short and time does go by fast.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Life is also exceptionally long. You go through a lot
of things.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
I hope you think you're going to be thinking about
that when you're when you're up in your seventies putting
your your dentures in the ground.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
One hundred percent true for sure. There was also a
text earlier. I haven't checked the RAMS score, but it
was an individual I think who was kind of firing
back at the person who said that the Jags were
getting job by the officials basically suggesting, let me say
I can find it here the Jags.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
This is from trail ref guy.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
The Jags have sixty eight yards total offense and the
Rams have the ball with five minutes left and about
to score again. Must be the refs though. Okay, so
maybe it's a little more than maybe it's a it's
an angry Jags fan uh that just can't handle the
state of the team, or there's another team where earlier
in this season and I may have fallen for this too,
it felt like, well, they're figuring some stuff out in Jacksonville.
(33:47):
They got off to a good start. Now they seem
to be coming back to the pack a little bit too.
So maybe they're the Nebraska of the of the National
Football League.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I don't I'm not exactly sure.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
What do you what's your gut tell you about Vikings Eagles?
Speaker 1 (34:02):
What do you think it's?
Speaker 4 (34:04):
It's a tough one because I think I think it
all comes down to the run game on both sides
of the field. Because as I was looking into this
earlier in the week, obviously we know we've seen we've
seen the Vikings get absolutely gutted on the ground, which
is something we're not used to seeing here over the
over the past several decades, the one thing the Vikings
have pretty much been consistent about year in and year
out is rush defense.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
But we saw guys like B John Robinson, which.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
No shame, no shame in anybody's game to get to
get destroyed by B.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
John Robinson.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Like you said, he sees a top running back in
the NFL, So it's a it's a tough thing. But
also looking into it, one of the few teams that's
worse in rush defense than the Vikings in the NFL
is the Philadelphia Egans.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
So I think the Vikings also have a unique.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Chance to try to establish the ground game, make it
a more balanced attack, and and maybe take some possessions
away from an Eagles team that they don't really show
it all that often, but obviously has the talent to
be explosive, and they can finish it just in a
couple of plays. I mean, they got one of the
best receivers in the game. AJ Brown is disgruntled as
he is, but you kind of wonder because there's so
(35:07):
many of these overlaying story lines going on with the
Eagles right now. Ken Jalen is Jalen hurt so has
he regressed? Is he an elite level quarterback? Are they
going to lean harder into the pass game because aj
Brown is so disgruntled, or are they going to take
the opportunity, which seems like the green light from this
Minnesota Vikings defense to just run all over them. So
(35:28):
it's a tough one, but I think it depends on
who wins the ground game. My gut does tell me
that the Eagles get back on track here. I mean,
they've only lost a handful of games in the last
calendar year. I think two or three games since around
this time last year. They're a dominant force and they
have those players that can explode at any time, and
I think, unfortunately I got a bad feeling, but I
(35:49):
do think the Vikings keep it close.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
They have it.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
They're a team of substance. I mean, there's no denying it.
It's just true. The track record speaks for itself. Now
you mentioned Brown, I think the one receiver that's really
hurt us is so big Metcalf, big physical receiver, and
that's obviously what Brown represents as well. So that will
be one of the interesting matchups to pay attention to.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Saw the biggest.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
This is from Jeff and Richfield, so the biggest concert
in Minnesota history Friday night. I hate to have to
say that despite the venue in despite his age, McCartney
still puts on a great show. His voice isn't what
it used to be, which I expected, but he still
sounded pretty good, had some good stories in between songs
played for two and a half hours, well worth it.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
I'm disappointed to find out.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
I don't think he did the one thing I've asked
him to do for the last twenty five thirty years,
and that's clear the air about what happened when the
cops were out to get them when the Beatles came
the first time to perform at Metts Stadium and he
was accused of having brought an underage girl into his
room at the hotel, which, by the way, later was
(36:50):
proven that she was of age. But we've had a
lot of fun over the years, quoting from the cops
the police commission who basically said if they never come
back again, it'd be too soon for me. I don't
think McCartney has ever cleared the air, and I would
think the statute of limitations had run out on whatever
(37:11):
took place that he could say it, but it doesn't
sound like he has spilled the goods in that regard.
I've heard a couple other people say pretty much the
same thing about the concert. I tend to think that
when you go and see someone of that age, you
go most people go in having tempered their expectations, and
(37:35):
they're going for the nostalgia of it, right, And so
there's even if it hurts a little bit to note
that the range isn't quite there to the same degree.
Speaking of you know, memories, it might last a lifetime.
If you go to see Paul McCartney and you're a
big Beatles guy, that might be one on your deathbed
you do look back on, say, you know that night
I was, even though the acoustics were terrible and his
(37:58):
voice wasn't quite the same, I'll.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Never forget it.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
The guy's history, the guy's musical, you know music history.
So I'm guessing most people are gonna be sparing in
their criticism of his voice not being quite as good.
They just want to be there, They want to hear
most of the same songs. But I was told by
our guy John Breens, start to be and I think
I read this he did not sing yesterday, which almost
(38:24):
seems sacrilegious that Paul McCartney would not sing that song.
I don't know if anybody else can confirm that, but
maybe he's sick of it, and I guess maybe after
all these decades, he said I've had enough yesterday.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
I'm not sure. I don't know if there's anything in
the range that would have caused it. But it doesn't
look like I got the set list pulled up here,
doesn't look like that. Dad doesn't look like he did yesterday.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
The hell of a song man.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
But anyway, my guess is most people went away fairly
pleased overall, because they can now say I saw McCartney.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
You know that, I think is what matters.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
I think most people are pretty generous and what they're
willing to, you know, accept given these guys are all
in their eighties now, for god's sake, McCartney I think
is the eighty two eighty three, I can't remember his age,
that there's a chance that he might not be able
to have the same vocal range that he once did.
The question is always is this the last tour? We
(39:17):
keep saying how many? I mean, I can remember like
twenty five thirty years ago, people saying might be your
last chance to see the Stones and Mick Jagger, and
you know, like twelve farewell tours later, there's still touring.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
Well, that's how they keep selling out these these stadiums
is because everybody is just like, all right, there can't
be another tour, right, but there always is another tour. Yeah,
I've been lucky enough over the last couple of years.
I got to see Rod Stewart, oh that's in his
later career. Got to see Janet Jackson, And it is
one of those things you don't go in there expecting
them to just wow you with their their their vocal
(39:52):
performance or anything. You're just happy to be in the
in the same area as them, and you get to say, yeah,
you do get to say later on, I got to
see them. Like I remember when Kobe played his last
game here at the Target Center. I saw him score
two points. But nobody I don't ever tell that part
of the story. I not just say hey, I got
to see I got to see Kobe before that is
that's what you go for.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
It's just I have you ever heard my Janet Jackson
choking story? I choked up.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
I Jimmy jam gave me the opportunity to do one
of those meet and greets after a Janet concert, and I,
you know, the hard part for I, I feel uncomfortable
that whole environment because I'm thinking, you just performed your.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Ass off, You're tired.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
The last thing you want to do is pretend you
give a bleep about a bunch of rooms from Minnesota.
In the same way, right, I'm going in sheepish, almost
like apologetic as we're doing it, because we're waiting forever.
There's a lot of other people who you know are
are are going to meet and reader. But I get
out of there and I say to my wife, this
is what's what's unbelievabout it. I never mentioned to Janet
(41:02):
the one thing we could have talked about legitimately. I'm
also from Gary, Indiana. I forgotten to tell her grew
we were born in the same city, maybe even the
same bleeping hospital.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
You don't have to think of some awkward right, little
ice breaker, You had.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
It right, and I might have gotten at least I
think a grin out of her. You know, he might
have talked about some of the old places, and so
I've told Jimmy that a couple times, and he's promised
me somewhere along the road in the future there'll be another,
a second chance to as I hope you're right, but
so far it has not happened.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
All right, big game today, huge game.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
It's starting I think the very challenging middle section this season,
and I know it looks less challenging because the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Have looked mortal, the Chargers have looked mortal.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
But that game's there, and you're playing this week a
legitimate quarterback, even if he's not playing like it, and
you're next week playing a legitimate quarterback. And then you
got the line in this mix another legitimate quarterback.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Now.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
I don't know if Baltimore is going to have their
legitimate quarterback, but we haven't beaten a legitimate quarterback yet
this season.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
We just haven't.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Sorry, So this is the opportunity to do exactly that
and get back to, I think again getting people to
feel like, Okay, there's still time to salvage no matter
who is at quarterback, for the Vikings to make this
a meaningful season yet again. Vikings Football Sunday is next
guards you and I'll be back with bumper to Bumper
tomorrow at three o'clock. Vikings, Talking Points, the whole bit.
(42:32):
Enjoy the season, Enjoy today. This game should be at
met Stadium. This is perfect fall football weather. Unfortunately it's
twenty twenty five, so it's where they play down to Minneapolis.
Thanks for watching, thank you for listening, and we will
talk to you tomorrow. Three.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
What to Say
Speaker 4 (43:00):
No
