Speaker 2 (00:48):
Couple thirteen fourteen pass or is it six seven sixty
seven as six to seven past the hour?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Time?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Now for five? Three four?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Now for.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Five questions? Well, actually three, but five sounds like more
than four. Question number one, It's time now for it's.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
A low down. It's in twenty down.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
The biggest thing in Iowa is the Hawkey has demolished
the Gophers forty one to three on Saturdays. Through their
first four possessions. The Gophers had one yard, while the
Hawkey said thirty one points.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Oh really.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Drake Lindsay was picked off three times, including a pick six,
and the Gophers ran for just twenty four yards on
twenty five carries common Where does that game rank among
the most embarrassing performances under PJ flex Watch?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Well, I think it has to be.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I mean, it wasn't there a loss last year or
the year before in one of what was supposed to
be a cupcake game and we got beat. I think
I think there was a cupcake game we lost which
was embarrassing. This, I mean, it wasn't as if you know,
(02:07):
Iowa was, this is a powerhouse. Both teams came into
the game five and two overall, both teams came into
the game three and one in the Big Ten. You
would have thought it was a relatively evenly matched game.
The Gophers were coming off a I would call it
a mild upset, and now it looks like gargangeous more
(02:30):
than mild when they beat then twenty fifth rank Nebraska.
I will say this, I do thank the Gophers because
of the one sided nature of the game. I was
able to get outside and do some of my fall
clean up. I intended to watch the entire game. I
thought this should be fun. It's two teams, as they
(02:50):
just mentioned, with identical records. They've been playing for over
one hundred years as one of the oldest driver. Yes,
it's one of the oldest rivalries in all of college football.
Playing for the Pig and we played like pigs. I mean,
we played like yellow belly pigs.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
That was so bad. And then.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Fleck after the game said, I told those guys that
game doesn't mean we have a bad team or a
bad program.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
What does it mean?
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Then? I mean, you know, and again you know there
you'll you'll occasionally have a lemon or a stinker. We
know we talked about with the Wolves occasionally sometimes you
just won't play as well. But that was just so bad.
And if you'll remember they played even though they beat Purdue,
they they played poorly against I don't know what to
make of the of the team now and where the
(03:35):
program is. But we've talked forever about, well the golfers
ever get to the point where they're maybe not Ohio
State like, but at least be like Wisconsin and Iowa
have been in the past where every few years there
were you know, there was a time, no Wisconsin's bad again,
there was a time Wisconsin was really really good, right,
And why can't we get to that point? And I
(03:57):
don't know but it was.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
And I was similar to you in which I had
youth hockey all day Saturday. So after the kids get down,
I'm thinking, all right, I'm gonna watch the Wild game
on DVR, go for football game on DVR. I know
I'm gonna be up late to watch both finish the
Wild which that one was not great either. Didn't enjoy
that one. And then early second quarter, it's thirty one nothing.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I'm out.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I'm not saying up till twelve thirty eight, twelve thirty
to watch this game, and.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
There was nothing else to see.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
They I guess the second half was pretty much a push,
but what's the difference when you were down thirty four
to three or whatever it was? So, yeah, are thirty
one nothing at the half? Whatever it was, and then
you know the second half was a push.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
But who cares? I mean, that's that's the game is
two halves and.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
The number you had is the one that sticks out
more than any the Gophers had. Did you say, was
it one yard game? They had one yard through four possessions,
had one yard. They had thirty one.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
They had thirty one points. We had one yard. They
had thirty one points. Uh. I think the young kid
at quarterback. Is it Drake Lindsay? Is that his name? Yeah?
I think he's got a chance to be good.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I think he's a he's a quality quarterback, at least
he has been to this point. But he wasn't very
good on No and I and again, you know, give
credit where credits due. I Will played really well, but
that was that was an embarrassment, really.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Question number two programming predigaments.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
The La Dodgers host the Toronto Blue Jays in Game
three in the World Series tonight at seven pm. That's
on Fox. The Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards host the Denver
Nuggets at eight thirty pm. You can watch it on
Peacock or you can listen to it right here on
the fan. The Kansas City Chiefs host the Washington Commanders
at seven to fifteen pm on ABC for Monday Night football,
and the Loons hosts Seattle in the MLS Playoffs. That's
(05:53):
at eight pm on FS one or Apple TV. Commin
What are you gonna do about tonight's programming predicaments?
Speaker 4 (06:04):
It doesn't.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
It you love a faithful trip that started from this
tropic board to board this tiny ship. I think I
might watching gcons with those times, I think gcans probably
be more my cup of tea. I don't I the
World Series has been you know, Game one was I
was totally caught off guard. Uh, Toronto's bats were they
(06:33):
were down to nothing, and then there was a history
made in Game one. Somebody for Toronto is the name Barger, Barger,
whatever his name is. There was a there's a player
for Toronto who hit the very the first ever World
Series pinch hit Grand Slam, and they had with three
homers and they just crushed the Dodgers, and the Dodgers
(06:55):
came back and Yamamoto had another brilliant performances. A second
complete game Amy's pitched in postseason. He did it during
the the NLCS, So I might watch a little of
that and it'd be interesting to see how the Wolves,
I mean they they they they played well enough against
(07:15):
an under manned Indiana team to win without Anthony Edwards.
But I don't know if the team at that time,
if they it was thought it was maybe just a
one off. I you know, he's he's out for this
game and he'll be back. But as tend to be
announced earlier today, the breaking news is Edwards is out
for two weeks and it must prop that and then
(07:37):
they're playing eight games in the next weeks, so we'll
see how the team responds tonight. So I'd probably watch, uh,
We'll watch an episode or two of Jigans, and probably
check on the World Series and the Wolves game tonight.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
Question number three NFL Noddle.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
The Packers beat the Steelers thirty five twenty five last
night in Pittsburgh Aaron Rodgers against his old team. Common
your thoughts on that game, Well, I spread.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Swing, I get I said it was the easiest pick
of the weekend. I thought Pittsburgh would win, and they
looked very good in the first half. They had a
sixteen to seven lead at the half. There was I
don't think this changed the momentum in the game. But
there was a play in which a defensive lineman for
(08:31):
Green Bay was clearly.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Jumped off sides.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
And you know how Rogers loves getting the free play, Yeah,
snapped the ball.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
He throws down field us incomplete. But the officials didn't
throw the fly really and it was obvious.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
And so then the officials gathered together to talk about it,
and they went to Pereira or whoever.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
It is you know official, you know that's with the.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Network, and he goes, rarely will they ever throw a
will they now throw a fly?
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Gone? That? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
He basically it sounded like he wasn't sure if it
ever happened before, and they didn't. They just said no,
no penalty. Now that means Pittsburgh had to punt the ball.
Did I don't think that changed the outcome.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
But you never know.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
But green Bay's for real Tennaby Jordan Love was simply
brilliant again last night. And I don't think I need
remind people again that there were there were a lot
of green Bay fans and a lot of NFL followers
that thought green Bay made a terrible mistake drafting Jordan Love,
that they should have went and got out wide.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Receiver for for for Rogers and like it could try
to make a push.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
But Jordan Love, I think he's he was a really
good last night again.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Coming what surprise.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
AFC team is more likely to be a big game
contender Indianapolis or New England.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
It's hard to argue with the Colts, I mean, because
not only they are winning, but they're winning by largely.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
They're throttling teams.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
And Jonathan Taylor is basically this year's version of Saquon
Barkley from last year. Yes, correct, and I mean just
every game two three touchdowns, had.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Three yesterday, putting an eighty yard run.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I think he's probably the early front runner for League MVP,
though I put Drake May right there too, sure, because
Drake May has been simply astonishing. So yeah, I and
Danny Dimes has been, you know, and again I've not watched,
matter of fact, Douce and I watched some of the
Colts game because I have not watched much Indianapolis Colts
(10:39):
football this year. Sure, primetime games they're not, but they
they look very good and and Danny Dimes looks solid.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
And I don't know, that's that's a good question I would.
I don't know. I think they're both going to be there.
I don't, I don't, I don't. I think I think
they both it's easy.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
To say now, and one team is six and two
in the other seven and one that they're both will
make postseason play.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
But they're both really good.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I don't think they're I don't think it's some smoke
and mirrors with those two teams.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I think they're both quality clubs.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
The Baltimore Ravens without Lamar Jackson beat the Chicago Bears
thirty to sixteen. Are you surprised common that the Ravens
took down the Bears without Lamar So? Lamar Jackson is
a former first round pick MVP candidate for the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
He's been out with an injury. They're down to one
in five.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
They've struggled without him, but they beat the Chicago Bears
yesterday at home.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
I was aware of that.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
I watched for and mat fact I was that was
the game I was interested in because it's an NFC
war team.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
The Bears were I know how they won those four games.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Going to be the competition wasn't very good because the
Ravens aren't even that And did you see the Ravens schedule.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
It's a little lighter coming in. It's really like they
could make a run. Yeah, they could make a run here,
So I guess you wouldn't write them off they get
Lamar back.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, the Bears, I think there's improvement there with with
with a young quarterback and the new head coach.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
But yeah, I don't think their time is has come.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
And that's it for today's edition of five questions, well
actually three questions, but five.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Sounds like more than four. We're going to.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
We're gonna get Tennabee's take on the Jolly Green Giants
teams Minnesota Wild Club. I think they were one game
in their last six six seven, So we'll take a
look at that on the other side of the break.
But right now, Tennabe as a keyword for.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
A couple thirteen to fourteen past I'm common He's tend
to be aka.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
The Jolly Green Giant.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
The Jolly Green Giants Wild Club rally to force overtime
but still lose to what it's being described TENN to
be as the lowly Sharks. Sarah McClelland's headline says San
Jose's Macklin Celebrini scored on a breakaway to end an
extra period that the home team had dominated, leaving the
Wild with one victory in their past seven games.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
TENEB What ales Wild or where do we start? First off?
Speaker 1 (14:00):
I get the San Jose Sharks are lowly, but Macklin
Celebrini is the real deal.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
That guy, he's legit. He's a young player.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
I think last year he was a rookie and so whatever,
whenever he's on the ice, they are a threat, and
they were throughout the game and even in the overtime.
I think the Wild had possession of the puck for
the first three and a half minutes overtime and the
I don't even think all of the San Jose Sharks
that started the overtime even got a chance to change.
(14:30):
But Celebrini came out right before he scored that goal.
He I think he was the one guy that was
able to get on the ice after the while they
had the puck for three and a half minutes with
multiple chances shots and he's got one break goes down
on a breakaway and scores. Yeah, it's it's pretty frustrating.
They can't keep the buck out of their own net.
(14:50):
And I get it, they've had a little bit of
puck luck against him, right. Two of the goals last
night on Balstad went off a shin pads and into
his own net. The game before, there were some puck
luck issues against Gustafson. But when you're consistently giving up
what appears to be four or five goals every game, now.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
You're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
And we're aware that the Wild don't have enough scoring
to be able to they can score against the San
Jose Sharks. So the Sharks are so bad defensively that
that is a game that you can stay in there
and play a five to five game with. But generally speaking,
the rest of the league the while, they're not going
to be able to put up those types of going
to have that much firepower against, and so they better
clean it up defensively and goaltending wise.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Here pretty shortly.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
I know we're just ten games in, but you do
this over the next ten games and that season is
going to get away from me pretty quickly.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Couple of a couple of being stuck out like a
sore blocker pad to me.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
It says the Sharks Billy Ecklin banked in a shot
off Wild defenseman Jonas Brodan.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
On the power play. Yeah, five twenty eight in the
first period.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
That deficit double at thirteen thirty five, when Timothy Liligrin gobbled.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Up Carill Capizo.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Caprice Off's clearing attempt and then skated by caprice Off
and route to the net, where's rebound was buried by
Michael Misa. Misa, sure he his first NHL goal. Then uh,
Rossi's to the pastor third.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
But then it says Caprizo poked the puck.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Past San Jose defense and dropped the past Rossi for
equalizer for one time.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
But then it went on to.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Say Caprizo another caprice Off turnover led to Ecklan getting
behind the Wild to wire a puck by goaltender, yesper Volstead.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Volstead. Two turnovers by Arguy caprice Off. What's that all about? Yes?
Speaker 1 (16:56):
The first one he was kind of in his own
corner and just kind of a soft clear to him.
I don't know what he was doing, because this is
very own caprice Off like to just kind of throw
the puck needlessly and he throws it out to him
at the blue line, and then he is now in
a position to defend him one on one. And we're
(17:18):
not gonna act like Caroca Priesof's the great defensive player.
But he just got absolutely let's just say he had
his ankle. He got his ankles broken. This is what
the kids would say. And then the second one he
turned over. I actually think the play he was trying
to make was the right play. He just didn't get
him as much on the pass as he needed to
get on it. He just kind of made a softer
(17:39):
pass than he needed to be and then all of
a sudden, you know we're out of position. Bang bang
make a pass. So yeah, I mean, you look at
the four goals last night. Four of the five goals
for San Jose. Two are just puck luck off your
shin pads. Two are really bad turnovers by Caroro caapriceot
now in Capriceov's defense or lock their rong. He also
(17:59):
proved a lot of the offense that gave you a
chance lesson. You know, he three assists and he's directly
helping you on a lot of those plays. So he
did at least make amends on the offensive side of things.
But yeah, two really bad turnovers out of him, and
you can't have that out of your best because I'll.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Get text messages here at the branch on Brian Kaiff
and text line from.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Members of the basketball community that will say you're.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Always picking on Edwards and the Wolds, but never a
discouraging word about Caprice off And I have to admit
I haven't been paying his close attention to the Minnesota
Wild or career Caprice office. I once did, but that
did stick out to me that he had a couple
of turnovers.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Is he.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Just a okay defensive play?
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Is he a liability to defensively or just he's just
really I know, he brings so much offensively.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
I get it, you have to take the good with
the bad or the bad with the good. But is
he not a very good defensive player or what would
you say?
Speaker 1 (19:02):
You know, I wouldn't put him at like oh Vechkin
levels back in the day in terms of being a
liability in your own zone. And mostly when he's on
the ice, they're in the offensive zone. I mean, they
don't they don't spend a lot of shifts in the
defensive zone when he plays, Yeah, I would just say
he's probably okay at best defensively. Now, where he is
(19:26):
good is on breakouts in your own zone. He can
make the right pass to get you out. And you know,
in terms of in terms of maintaining possession and getting
the puck up the ice, he's elite in that regard.
But yes, if our team doesn't have the puck, is
he elite defensively? No, I don't think he's awful. I
don't know if i'd call him a liability. And both
of the mistakes that were made you were both turnovers
(19:49):
of the puck. That was him with the puck on
his stick. Now in the one he got beat defensively
after he turned it over. But generally speaking he is.
There's no one else on the team you want to
have with the fuck on a ship rather than Caroka Priceoft.
So I'm not gonna sweat that too much. What we
saw yesterday was pretty rare for Caroca Priceoft.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
When when we got out from under the Suitter Preezy contracts,
we're hoping that would allow us to secure the services
of some high end free agents. Of course, what happened
during the offseason what I'm told is those high end
free agents most of them re signed with the teams
they were with. So now the logic becomes, hey, we
(20:32):
get to trade deadline time. We might have some money
to buy to to trade for players and be able
to pay them, but with the way we're playing right now,
that's we need to do something pretty quicker come trade
deadline time. We're not going to be there'd be no
reason to make trades if we're not in contention.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Right now, we don't seem to be very good. Yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Don't want to do the sky as falling bit yet,
just because I have seen a lot of Minnesota Wild
seasons that are just absolute roller coasters where they go
through ten games stretches where you think they're one of
the best teams in hockey and then it falls apart.
I've seen times where it's falling apart and you think
they're done with and then all of a sudden, they
go on a nice run over the next ten games.
So it is very early and we're going off of
(21:18):
what we've seen thus far. Defensively is the biggest concern
because Brodean wasn't fully healthy coming into the season. I
don't know if he's back to old Jonas brodein levels.
Jared Spurgeon has been just okay. He's getting a little
long in the tooth. They're depending on some young guys
(21:38):
in Booyam and your check. Bulliam's had some definitely had
some moments offensively, and he's very helpful in that regard,
especially if you're down a goal or two in the
third period. He can get some more minutes or if
you want to put him out there on offensive zone faceoffs,
But your check still looks like a liability to me.
Buoyam is still a liability in your own zone. Brock
(21:59):
Faber has now been the elite brock favor that we're
accustomed to, and then they haven't had goaltending to make
up for it. So that's the element the aspect, you know,
I get it. They're lacking some depth offensively. You know,
Felino miss last night's game. They're already without Zucarello and
Nico Sterm. If they can ever get healthy, maybe will
(22:21):
be a little bit more competent offensively, but they need
to be They have to be a good defensive. They're
not going to be a top five offensive league. That's
just not where they're built at this very moment. They
need to be a good defensive team to compete, and
through ten games they haven't been.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
And then with Anthony Edwards, well, first of all, lack
of effort defensively by the team two games into the season,
and with Anthony Edwards out for two weeks which would
equal eight games, it's possible we could have a long, cold.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Lonely winter here in the Twin Cities.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
With our two When I will say the ant capris
of f why do you go a fter rant and
knock apristoff? And I don't completely disagree with that. I
would just say a star basketball player has a much
greater influence on the outcome of their team's games than
a star hockey player does. A star hockey player is
on the on the ice one third of the game.
Your star basketball the players on the what eighty percent
(23:19):
of the game? Eighty percent of the game, they're on
the court, and they're touching the ball more often than
the rest of the team.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
You are correct, We'll break. We'll come back with more
common man program on the fan.
Speaker 1 (23:40):

Bonus Bucks is presented by two men in a jump truck.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
A couple thirteen to fourteen past on Common.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
He's tending to be Mark Rose in return tomorrow, just
prior to two o'clock PJ Flex Show. Tomorrow show interesting
that We'll be at twelve noon tomorrow Tenne and I
will start at one o'clock Rock Talk On Wednesday. Brian
Oakill joined us at twelve thirty and ten Toby, I'm
assuming middle of the week news conference with the head
(24:19):
coach of the soon to be Big Game World champion
Minnesota Vikings, probably Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
They haven't scheduled nding yet, but that's what I would guess.
That's what it usually is. We'll just have to wait
and see how that goes.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Tim. We got a text message here on the Brown
John Brian Cavan text line from the five oh seven.
It says, are the Wild just a dysfunctional franchise? I
like the while, but those that I talked to that
love it more are calling for the coaches head, referencing
the twenty eighteen twenty nineteen Blues as a reason for
firing the second coach mid season in what two or
(24:51):
three years? Sounds like they have bigger problems if the
coach is the issue already? Are people complaining about the coach?
I haven't heard any complaints about the coach, But I
also probably avoided social media this weekend, so maybe I
didn't hear the two a lot of the commenting on
how the two games went from that same I just
watched him.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Myself, But I haven't heard a whole lot about the coach.
That's I think that's just typical fan reaction, right. We
can't get rid of the whole team.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
We can't. We can't.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
We we're kind of stuck with the players we have
right now. So if we need a spark, it's got
to be the coach. I'd give them a little more,
I'd give them a little more leash. At this point,
it's been kind of the same wild team for the
last six seven years six seven So I don't know
how much more we can just keep blaming coaches. I
(25:44):
speaking of blaming coaches, how about LSU.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
LSU fires coach Brian Kelly in the fourth season of
his ten year, one hundred.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Million dollar deal. He goes two and three.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
And he gets and you know, look, I don't I'm
not paying his close attention to LSU football as I
once did. But if you if you read the quotes
from the athletic director Scott Woodward, he says, when coach
Kelly arrived at LSU four years ago, we had high
hopes that he would lead us to multiple SEC and
national championships during his time at Baton Rouge. Ultimately, the
(26:24):
success at the level that LSU demands simply did not
materialize materialize. And it is every you know, and not
just college at the pro level, I think too, but
especially at the collegiate level.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
There are some.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Some programs, some schools that they just demand so much
more than others, like well, let's use the Gophers for example.
And I'm not suggesting PJ. Fleck should be fired, but
his overall record's been we just say ten in his
(27:06):
nine years he's been. It's been eight. Yeah, it's been eyed.
He had one really good season in which I think
they finished like eleven and two something like that, six
seven games over five hundred, and they were ranked number
ten nationally in the final Associated Press Pool and a
lot of people thought the Gophers would be able to
(27:29):
build off of that, or at least that was the whope,
Hey we're We're not, because that's how I think what
everybody has sort of kind of been waiting, I guess
decades for here with the Gopher football program is to
get to the point where, you know, we brought this
up earlier when we were talking about the Gopher beat
down to.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Iowa, that.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Iowa, Ohio State, even Northwestern, heck, sometimes Michigan State.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Over the past ten, twelve, fifteen years, however long it's.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Been, those schools will have football teams that for a
couple three years are ranked in the top twenty five
and are going to major bowl games. And you actually
go into the season thinking, chance to be pretty good here.
If we get a break or two, maybe we could,
especially now when there's twelve teams playing in in the
(28:16):
NCAA FPS playoffs, you know, you figure maybe we have
a chance. But after that loss to Iowa, and again
everybody's allowed a lemon, but it almost seems like the
Gophers are back to Whacker type days to me. I mean,
I guess they're probably better than that, but that's such
(28:41):
a bad loss. And then you look at LSU and
it's like, guys two and three is the fourth year
in his contract and Brian Kelly's highly regarded.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Right then they lift him from an order dame. I
think he came from order day.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Yeah, I remember going down there and he got crap
for human viral for like faking the Southern accent.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah right right, I should talk to he did talk
Southern accent oil all. So, boy, it sure is different
depending upon where where the school is located. So he's
out and associate head coach is taken over there now and.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
I don't know, I just the Gophers gave us business.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Now.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Yeah, the expectations are.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Well, yeah, especially for those those those so called helmet schools.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
We think of this tennemy.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
You had the stat and that stat was the most
alarming of all. In four possessions on Saturday, the Gophers
had one yard offense. I went thirty one points and
they got it. And they got it in almost every
which way you can. I think they threw for one,
ran for one, had to pick six for another, and
a punt return for another, where as a kickoff one
(29:55):
of the two they were scoring in every way imaginable
and quickly, quickly, and it just it just it it,
It just snowballed. And like we said, the second half
was uneventful, but at that point, all I was doing
is just running the ball. That's all they do anyway, right,
And so it was it was a stalemate in the
second half, but at that point it didn't even matter.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
So yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
So, so we've got a college football team that's they'll
probably become bowl eligible eventually, right, I mean, I they
they only need one more win if become bowl eligible.
Because of that, the silly non conference scared.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
And I know they all do it. They all do.
They all play it. They ally they pay.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
They'll pay some team a half million dollars, you know what,
six seven million dollars to to show up and take
a beat down and so they can pad the record
so they get into a bowl game. And you know,
I've always been in the opinion that these these bowl
games are nothing but glorified exhibition games.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
They're just scrimmages because the two just as the star
players don't even play because they just want to go
to the draft.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
They want to say healthy, and you're playing on December
fifteenth or the thirty first, or even even if it's
a bowl, even if it's a New Year's Day Bowl game.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
I guess that means a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
But you're playing a game sometime in December with half
empty stadiums, and the game really doesn't It doesn't lead
to like another game or some type of a championship.
It's just, hey, let's just select these two teams that
haven't play an extra game. And I'm of the opinion,
and I guess you would have to ask each individual player.
(31:41):
I got to think, but by the time you get
to the end of the especially if you've gone six
and six.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
What about six to seven, or if you've gone six seven.
Let's say you've gone six.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
To seven and you get invited to a bowl game,
and you go, I mean, we got to practice for
another month, We got to go travel to Detroit or
Shreveport losing to play a Tuesday afternoon game that no
(32:13):
one's going to be watching, that none of us care about.
I'd rather the season just be over. I don't want
to practice anymore. I don't want to play another game.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
But they have to. I got to think their hearts
aren't even in it. I don't mind.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Wouldn't be really another game, a meaningless football game when
the season has been if you're on the winning six
to seven games, it's not a very successful season.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
It's not very rewarding.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
So even if the Gophers do get into a game,
and I'm sure they will, and we'll carry it for
you here we're in the audio home for the Minnesota
Golden golfher Football Network, we'll have it for you. And
I guess I'll I'll feign interest and pretend I'm really excited.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
But it's hard to.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
You know, coach, we lose to Ohio State and the
coach says we're a good football team. That team's just
really good. We're a good football team. Then they get
beat I would I would say, tennebe, I would argue
that the loss to Iowa was worse than the loss
(33:22):
to Ohio State because Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Is the number one team in the nation. There's no doubt.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
And there I mean after the Golfer game. I think
it was either prior to the Golfer game or after
the Golfer game. Ohio State had given up an average
of five points a game in five games. They'd given
up twenty five points.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
That's that's just on a whole different level.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
They it does seem like it's Ohio State and then
the rest of college football. Now we'll see, you know,
they'll I am curious. I'm assuming it's going to be
Indiana against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game,
right I I guess I'm a believer in Indiana. Now,
(34:03):
I've I've watched a couple other games if if you want,
if the coach can check, just google them.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
He can.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
But I'm interested to see how good they really are
because the true, the only true, it seems to me,
the only really true test for any team to see
how good they are is you got to play Ohio State.
And I think the Ohio State Indiana game will be
one of those games. I think most of us will
that that like that, like to see the best team
square off. That should be on paper, it's it's got
(34:38):
How does Indiana do it? Why can't we do it?
Indiana's actually been worse of football than we have that,
haven't they? We need someone really rich here to put
money into her.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
Yeah, is that why Indiana? Yeah, it's it's it's all
the money thing. Right.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Well, then as I still don't understand how we don't
have donors for the University of Minnesota. Like when when
the when the NIL thing came out six seven years ago?
Six seven years Yeah, I thought to myself, you know,
and we're not going to be on Ohio State Michigan level.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
I get that.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
But a lot of these teams in the Big Ten,
like we have a huge metro area with a bunch
of big businesses to draw from me, like, we should
be able to get some NIL money coming out of
here that people in Nebraska, you know, they shouldn't have
it in Nebraska. And and uh, we're Purdue is right,
I'm we should have an advantage now all of a
sudden number a lot of the bottom half teams in
(35:36):
the Big Ten, and I just feel like we're still
hurting for money.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Doesn't make sense. We're in a populated metro area.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
And and let me ask you a question about NIL
and about money donated by by boosters because.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
They're allowed to do that, right, is that all public
knowledge too?
Speaker 2 (36:08):
Like in other words, Tennabee, let's say you were you
really have to the strains credulity, have to really use
your imagination. Let's say you were a successful multi millionaire.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Businessman.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Could you just come around and said, I'm going to
sign a check for one million dollars from the Minnesota
Golden Gofers. Here you go and have big news conference
and people slapping you in the back, or you could
go ten million, or they didn't weight rooms after end, right,
And I am surprised that there isn't you know? And
you know, I think I mentioned this last week. Where
are the people that graduated from the University of Minnesota
(36:44):
got a degree from the u of M and then
went on to be a champion of industry And it
is a multi millionaire that you know, he's through his degree.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Yeah, and it's hard work too.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I'm not saying just because he had the degree, why
won't he give back a little bit of at Corey Cove?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, is you go for a lot's made millions doing
the initial games, He's made millions.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Why won't he give, yeah, give back to the university
that they so richly deserve.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
And then you think of all the fortune five hundred
companies in town.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Yes, and you know, now I guess there's you know,
I know, Saint Thomas is now do you want? But
there's also not even like competition for those dollars here.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Right, well, and this is where now here's where I'm
really interested to see. We've got a completely new roster
with the men's basketball team. We've got a brand new
coach who's had success everywhere, and he's he's coaching wise
as far as every stop he's been at. This Nico
(37:53):
Medvet is sort of the basketball equivalent of PJ. Fleck, right,
because everywhere Fleck coach before he got here, he was
really good. Right. I think it was at Eastern Michigan,
Western Michigan, Northern Michigan, Central Michigan, Southern Michigan, in east, southern,
south central Michigan, and he won, and then he came here,
and Medbit has been at I think he's been the
head coach at six seven different.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Schools and he's been really good everywhere he went. I
met was at Colorado State. It was really good.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
He didn't he get him to a sweet sixteen, yeah,
or maybe it was even a grade eight. So I'll
be curious to see if he can work as magic
here because as we talked about, I think it was
last week whereas I know, it really didn't happen, even
though it happened when the Govers went to the Final
four back in ninety seven.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
That was so much fun. It's fun to be in
the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Your school, your hometown school is in the mix and
getting out of the first and second round and moving,
you know, you move into the sweet sixteen. When a
couple games there get to the final four. I think
we're a long way from there, but you never know.
Let's take a phone call from Warren. Warren, you're on
(39:08):
the fan, Thanks for calling.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, you know about the Vikings. One being, it would
be real easy to solve their defensive line issue right now.
What's not happening this year that happened last year. Well,
it would be real easy. And I know that they
still could get him right now is I would I
would trade for Harrison Phillips and then I'd go to
(39:32):
New Orleans and get Jonathan Bullard back. Those two guys
with them on the line, they they were they had
a really good running defense. Now the line is another thing, okay,
they there's only one way they could save the season.
(39:52):
They'd make a trade to New England to pick up
the rookie they had that played for him last year.
He's backing up a rookie this year and played well,
is uh him? And I say go to New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
And you guys thought it was funny that I said,
if you had a if you had a seven to
four offense, when you put seven linemen in what's been
hoped to happen into the Minnesota Vikings big lineman coming
in in the backfield and in the tight end position.
So you bring de side to get the Darien though,
(40:28):
to help the darien though, to help at the tackle position.
The Darien though, used to be in Minnesota Viking and
he plays in New England.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
So you want to you want to go back and
get former Vikings that we parted ways with and bring
them back.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Yeah, because there were better players than what you got now.
And I don't care what you say about du though.
You know in his years that he was here, he
gave up two sacks.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
What are we.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
What are we going to trade and get those guys back?
I mean, they're not gonna hear what players are they
gonna win there. They're not gonna want any They're.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Not gonna no, they're gonna have to go with lower
old draft choices. And I think they can do it,
especially for the two defensive linemen. Because you had the
Jets and you and you have New Orleans aren't winning.
They wouldn't be willing to give up anything for draft choices. Okay, Well,
the big guy, the most important guy is Tyle Hinton
because he's a guy that not only is he tough,
(41:22):
you could put him in the backfield to protect because
they don't have any This is the problem. They don't
have anybody don't answer at center. That's the biggest thing.
If you had a guy in the back, I guarantee
you if he's in the backfield, somebody comes in there,
he's gonna he's gonna knock him out. I mean, this
guy is tough. So let's say you did that. The
only other question is, Okay, your quarterback situation. They need
(41:45):
to stack the quarterbacks right now because Swins should not
be playing at all this year. He should be on
the injured reserve list because he's not healthy. And what
they this would be a perfect guy to bring in
ne his Henton Hooker. What do you wouldn't cost him anything?
They wouldn't cost him anything. He's on he's on a
he's on a practice squad.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
Squad because he's not any good. I watched him play
for the Troy Well you didn't.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Nobody knows that because they never gave him a chance
to play.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
Let me ask you a question, what do you think
about getting Jeff Lynn and Rod Stewart.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
We already talked about that. But one other thing they
could also do. They could make a trade with Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (42:27):
Who for sure.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Yep, and I would try to make a deal for
him because that's that's another quarterback you have. You have
a possibility not only mentioned, I think you could turn
him into a wide receiver and use him as as
a quarterback. But you got do you guys realize that
JJ McCartney cost the Vikings their their franchise quarterback. If
he wasn't here, would have had they would have had
(42:55):
no if he wasn't here, we would have got here.
No think about it. If if JJ wasn't here last year,
they would either had Jones on this roster, they had
their they had their franchise. I know they would have
had they.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
We could right now have Darnald Danny Dimes, or we
could have uh Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
But we've we've got McCart.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
There was another one worse thing that the Vikings fans
should be really cared about. I think their training staff
is a big problem. Not only did they Yeah, I
think the Vikings training staff is a big problem. Anybody
can see that Derrisa isn't healthy. He shouldn't even be playing.
If you, if you, if you get a guy in
(43:42):
the game that could play ten plays and he can't play.
He's not healthy and he doesn't look the same. And
I don't think O'Neill should be I don't think O'Neill
should be playing. This is the thing. No, this is
the thing. If you've got it, isn't so, it isn't
look at the time, there's only there's only what ten
weeks left in the season. It isn't the time. That's
(44:04):
not enough time to heal on its own. Can you
put these guys in the game? Okay? They keep getting it?
You know, you know what could happen to Darrisa. This
could endanger his career.
Speaker 4 (44:17):
Thanks Warren, appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Well, that's why there have been suggestions that Darisaw is
not a tough guy, that he's supposed to eat some
dirt and rub some robotesting on it.
Speaker 4 (44:29):
You can make that claim.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
I don't know how bad that knee is. As a defense,
as an offensive lineman, you've got to be able to
plant and if it is wobbly. I look, especially the
one thing that Warren just said there, I think he
said it was hard to digest everything he said. But
(44:52):
if the season continues as it is now, we're three
and four. I think we're going three and five here
pretty quick, matter of fact, as quickly as this Sunday.
Then in less O'Neill and Darris are one hundred percent.
You just you know, I know there would be people
I would argue with that. But if you've got those
(45:13):
two guys, are are are are our key players on
your off? If they're not one hundred percent playing guys
when they're hurt, I just don't like it unless it's.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
You're the pitchcown. Makes no sense.
Speaker 1 (45:23):
Either either Darisa plays the entire game or he's not
healthy to play and you set him and your wrest
him until he's ready.
Speaker 4 (45:29):
Yes, that's the pole.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
Let's play half the game. Yes, does not work. No,
I you come out in the fourth part clearly not
making him feel better. Yeah, we've been on the pitchcount
for a month straight. Now, that's correct.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
So and if you get to the point of the
season where it's over, there's no And I know they're
making a lot of money and if you can play,
you play, and I get all of that, but it's
it's what's what is it about something about valor? Is
that there's an old saying. I think they have it
in Tennessee. You know only one shame on me and
(46:00):
pull me again. I you have to live to play
another day. And so I don't know if I do that.
Let's let's let's take a break, come back one more hour, Togo,
It's the common Man Program. More controversy of Bikings news
other side of the break here on the Fan
