Speaker 1 (00:00):
Uh, that's the late great Dark Star would say, and
I have it for a matter of fact, why don't
we why don't we let him say it?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
That's off, folks.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
That wasn't dark Star, but dark would have thought the
same thing.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
That that that that that that that's folks. It's it's
unfortunate to hear from a good friend of the grum.
Gary lewis in these in this in that circumstance that
was the Jayhawks and tailspin, but it's very appropriate. I
haven't used that in a montage for quite some time,
but it looks like not only a tailspin, but we're
(00:40):
in for a crash landing.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
There's so much to get to.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Today, Vikings, Green Bay, the other teams in the North
win the wild they can't lose. And there is indeed
a wall in Saint Paul. The Gopher football team, they're
not moving. Rosen thought they would be moving the needle
if they beat Northwestern.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
There's no needle moving there.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
There's no wall at the defensive line of scrimmage for them.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
We know that. That is absolutely so.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
There's with so much to get to, I'm not sure
where to start. So oftentimes just to sort of break
the tie. We'll spin the wheel off topic.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Commons golf, and behold, what did you shoot today? Five
over seventy five? Where'd we play at Oak Marsh?
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Where'd you hit it on?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
One?
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Left?
Speaker 5 (01:37):
Rough?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Huh left rough? I'm flive and Shock I know me too,
so was everybody second.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Shock decided to risk a hybrid more on that later,
and I hit a decent hybrid right.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Well, I didn't hit a decent hybrid. I pushed it
away right.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
The five iron might as well be a pitch well,
the five iron from the green the five iron and
was becoming my key club. Well after the hybrid that
I sliced right I had, I still had.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
A long way in. I had one thirty six I think.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Then into the wind cold, I hit a three quarter
knocked down seven onto the green and two putted for par.
In fact, I went four over thirty nine on the front,
one over thirty six on the back. And I'm not
going to say today that I putted really well and
nothing went in. I didn't put particularly well, but I
didn't put poorly either. I just I just little left,
(02:32):
little right left.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
A few short.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
That's the worst I could have shot today. I was
very JJ McCarthy. Like yesterday, I walked off the golf course.
I was playing with something in the way he swings
Guy Pierre and Brett Blakemore. I walked off after my
t shot on thirteen. I said, gentlemen, I'm I'm leaving.
I'm gonna go home and watch football. They were astonished
(02:55):
I wouldn't leave. It was just two players. But from
my own mentor, it's like you have to know when
to hold them and know when to fold them. I shanked,
not just sliced. I shanked four hybrids in a two
hole stretch dead shanked, including on thirteen. I've got We're
I've got one ninety to the green on a par
(03:17):
three it went forty five degrees to the right over
to ten fairway. So I just said, gentleman, I'm going
I kid. I thought I think they thought I was kidding.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
I was.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
My accuracy with the hybrid was the accuracy of JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Of course, I knew when to pull.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Myself from the game. I said, this is it, I'm out.
The head coach apparently doesn't know when to pull the
quarterback out of the game, and so I did get
to see the second half, which.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
I think Chipscoggin's summed it up best.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Did you see what Skip's headlines said to to be? Actually, Skip,
I meant Ship. I'm sorry because Chip and I we
we text and talk more than most people know. Headline
in op second half versus the Packers is the low
point of the Viking season. And then that subheadline, the
(04:17):
Viking second half was one of the most feeble, non competitive,
embarrassing performances this writer has witnessed in an NFL game,
and that absolutely nails it.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
It was as bad as I did.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Is this right?
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Did they get four yards offense in the second half?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Is that number correct?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I know they're like minus ten at one point four yards.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I don't know if I'm going to get any text
messages from the listener saying give the kids some time. No,
Josh Allen, Josh Allen and Peyton Manning. You know they struggled.
They know they didn't struggle like this. No one's ever
a good like this. You provided me with some of
the numbers, and I've seen some others elsewhere. It's literally
the worst six game stretch of any rookie, well whatever,
(05:09):
of any corporates first six game doesn't matter if it's
a rookie or not. In the history of professional foot
that's just a fat feels I told Ruce, I felt
sorry for the kid. Actually, I know I wouldn't wish
that on anybody unless it was.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
A Packer quarterback.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
But other than that, I wouldn't wish that on anybody,
would you. It's just it's it's hard to watch how
bad it is and the reason I won't want my
text message? Did you get the email that says, uh,
hip cricket is changing? I have to have no like
two or three different passwords, and it was yeah, the
(05:44):
two authentic, authenticity, authenticity, and.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Now I didn't.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I guess I should have read it more closely.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
But I can't even get my name up here because
you go to the sign in and there's only two
people that apparently have done it correctly, Cinecon and Brero.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I can't get my name even to.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Come up there, so I can't I can't get any
text messages today.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, I'm sure you can figure it out.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
You've just advanced to the foolish four of the of
the preposterous say returnment say that again.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I'm sure you can figure it out. Me, come and
figure it out. Yeah, you could have Abbot figure it
out for you.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Well, that's what I'm hoping, because i'd like to hear.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Probably the route you're going to go.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, well he's not here.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I mean he might be here.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
He wasn't here when I of course I got in
here really late today.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
But oh, we'll talk.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
About the game, and we will talk about other topics
as well.

Wow, do you know what I mean? My feels? I
actually feel bad for him? Or should I not?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I understand? I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
It's hard to know even where to begin, other than
as my good friend Skip Skoggins pointed out in his Peace,
six plays in the third quarter resulted in minus ten yards.
(09:07):
You had mentioned it was ten minus ten yards. They
had six plays total in the second half that lost
yardage plus a false start penalty. The numbers for McCarthy
are sobering twelve of nineteen eighty seven yards and two interceptions.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
You had sent me a number.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Of screenshots of tweets, this one from Kevin Seaffert in
the last thirty seasons. In the last thirty seasons, there
have only been two Vikings quarterbacks who've thrown two interceptions
in three consecutive games. Christian twenty twelve, JJ McCarthy in
twenty twenty five, not Josh Allen, not Peyton Manning the
(10:09):
Christian ponder since this is from Purple Persuasion. Since twenty ten,
only three first round quarterbacks have had a passer rating
under sixty five in their first six starts. Zach Wilson
(10:31):
sixty three point five, Blaine, You'll find your home at
Gabbert's sixty point three, McCarthy at fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
He's worse than this point nine, He's worse.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Than those two.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And then there was this one that hold on, let
me see, there's so many, here's one. JJ McCarthy now
ranks eight hundred and fifty one out of eight hundred
and fifty two in EPA per drop Akamon qualified passer
since twenty since two thousand.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Per true Media, the only player below McCarthy is JaMarcus Russell.
What is EPA?
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I thought that was the environment Environmental Protection Agency? I know,
I know, I've used that lineers and I still don't
know what EPA.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Means Expected points added.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
And then you you sent me this, and this is astonishing.
You would have a thirty nine point six QB rating
if you went zero for twenty with twenty spiked footballs.
McCarthy had a thirty four point two rating again.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Today, You've got to be kidding me.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
And I get the dilemma where you say, well, you
invested a first round draft pick tenth overall in a
young kid who had had a lot of success in
high school and college. Then you feel like, well, in
six games, isn't a lot. It's not, but it just
seems to be getting worse instead of betting worse. And
(12:15):
maybe it's because there was Maybe it's there's pressure. Much
of it I'm sure is self imposed. Much of it is.
I saw one of those kweet you sent me. Somebody says, oh,
I bet they'll be more bullying from the local reporters.
What I mean bullying when people are just reporting what
the facts are.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Nobody's bullying. And I even said, I.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Feel bad for but the numbers are the numbers, and
I don't know how much longer you can let the squad.
I realize that the season's over now, I mean where
they're not going to win six in a row. They're not,
And so I guess, I guess you do have to
keep playing?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Or do you?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
I mean, we talked about this. Man, You've got other
guys in the team.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
They're going, Oh, I don't. I love the kid, and
he's great. Hey, but man, I want to I don't
want to be a part of this. I don't want
to be a part of trying to kid on the
training wheels. And it's it's just it's awful. And I
blame it squarely on the guy we're about to hear
from next. Quite frankly, i'd be the head coach of
the soon to be Yes exactly, the head coach of
(13:18):
the soon to be Big Game World champion Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
He's next his game day after.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
The game news conference live from the New Winter Party
Show Performance Center.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
That's next you're on.
Speaker 4 (13:27):

Speaker 2 (13:55):
What's the name of the place again? Shields and Eden
Prairie Tuesday? We look forward to it.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I'm Common.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
He's Tennabe awaiting the arrival of the head coach of
the soon to be Big Game World champion Minnesota Vikings,
who will address the media and his day after the
game news conference live from the new Winter Park Tco
Performance Center. I had mentioned I don't know how to
get into the the bratch on Bryant Kafean text line
until Chad Abbott returns. He's out somewhere in the northern suburbs.
(14:27):
So someone then responded via via an email, sent this
via the text but heard that is inoperable currently, He says, Common,
I think you hit on the thing that might not
make each coming up a game and no brain er
decision to start JJ and the rest of the season.
Some of the signals are there that he might be
close to being broken. Last week it was the hands
(14:48):
to the helmet and racing off the field. This week
overall looks like the confidence is now completely gone. At
what point do you show some mercy and pull him?
He may need a mental reset here love the grum
Era from Lakeville regular, And there is some truth to that.
Tend to me because as bad as it gets for
him every time he goes, I mean, do you get
to the point it's like when I pulled myself off
the golf course yesterday, I could not hit my Highbred
(15:12):
to save my butt.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I would stand there over it, and I knew what
was going to happen.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
I just you've played enough golf, You've even had an
experience that's sounded like that of a PGA Tour pro.
For some reason, something's going wrong and you can't stop it,
Like he can't stop over throwing wide receivers and hanging
onto the ball and taking sacks and just making poor decisions.
And if you just keep saying, well, we kid, we
(15:38):
got to keep putting me out there. It can just
after a while, it's like, I'm not saying, he's thinking himself.
I don't want to be out there, but it's almost
like you're almost terrified too. I don't know, maybe he's not,
you know, maybe he's got so much confidence and bothered.
But I just have to stop playing goues. I know
what was gonna happen. I was going to hit another
shank with a hybrid. You give yourself a mental reset,
I'm out, And then I went out of today, and
(16:00):
I was simply brilliant today. If I don't mind saying
so myself. Quite frankly, I don't mind saying so myself.
And whether that is you know, if that would work here,
or if they should even consider it here.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
It would be his second reset though. Yeah, technically the
first one was an injury, but that was my mental reset.
I'm still convinced more than ever now that that was
I think kind of a soft benching.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I think I've seen why. Yeah, and if you remember,
there was Carson to give them the best chance to win.
We know that now.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
There was even one writer in this town who said
that was just in ainate that that that that I
think he was directing it directly at you too, because
you were really strong on that opinion about a soft mention.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
But I and I was with you on it.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
But I let you lead, you know, I let you
run interference, and I think you were right, though I
think there there there was something to it.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
So I don't know what the answer. And now you know,
I've heard people saying, put Brozmer in. Put Brosmer in.
To me, that ship has sailed right, like you're putting
Brosmer in because he's thinking you have a chance to
win this season, right. And when the game at LA
against the Chargers where they kept putting ones out there
with a bum shoulder, yeah, and refused to me that
(17:11):
signal they don't think Brosmer is a chance to give
them to win this year. Otherwise he would have played
at some point. That's second half, correct. So now it's
it's it's no longer about what's the best for this
team this year. It's now turned into what's best for
next year. And so I guess if you thinks Brosmer
has got a chance to be a National Football League starter,
(17:31):
then yeah, we want to take a look at him
before before we get in the regular but this is
now and maybe everywhere maybe people have seen enough of
jam and Jim McCarthy go, I know he's completely done
and shot forever, but now's where you play him to go.
We got to make a decision on him this offseason
and if nothing changes here, then we're moving on exactly.
So now you play him to give yourself what decision
(17:52):
you need to make for next year.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
And I have discussed that with someone earlier, a good
friend of mine.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
Here's koc in there that I've got to get fixed.
Starts with me and our coaching staff, and we're gonna go, uh,
we're you know, right back to work and and and
try to solve some of those issues that have kind
of kept us from winning some games here and giving
us a chance to win some games. But injury wise,
just wanted to touch on, you know, Christian Dresaw, Donovan Jackson,
(18:20):
and Mattelis updated you guys as much as I could
yesterday and really outside of coming in for treatment and
early evaluations, don't have an update at this time, but
like I said, I will as we get a little
bit more clarity about what their availability looks.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Like for the week.
Speaker 7 (18:38):
Try to get that to you guys as we as
we push on this week. And then did want to
update JJ McCarthy. You know, over the course of our
travel home reported some kind of symptoms and uh in
regards to you know, his head, and and we wanted
to get back here once we you know, kind of
heard that he was evaluated last night and after completing
(19:01):
those tests, our training staff and doctors and medical team
have decided that the right place for him is put
him into the protocol for now and he'll go through
that process, uh this week. And uh didn't uh you know,
didn't have any uh you know, any early updates other
than that he's in the protocol now, he's been in
(19:22):
meetings and and uh you know here today in the
building and and we'll update you guys as we go.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Is there a hit that heppened?
Speaker 7 (19:31):
Yeah, I know, we uh you know obviously with the
independent you know, a couple of independents and and the
medical staff and everything. There was not one particular you know,
we're you know, looking looking into it as as I
know we all will. It had to be late, you know,
based upon kind of how the game went. But but no,
there wasn't one where I think even JJ can can
(19:55):
pinpoint as of right now.
Speaker 8 (19:58):
Through the week kind of figure it out and how
things called for JJ. But you go, and assuming Max
Rosner is ready to start.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
Yeah, I don't think it's I think it's probably too
early to tell that.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Ben.
Speaker 7 (20:08):
You know, as far as you know, with the quarterbacks
not really taking contact in practice in the different phases
of the protocol, I think we got to just take
it a day at a time and leave it to
the medical professionals and the protocol.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
It's in place for a reason.
Speaker 7 (20:23):
We're you know, by the book, you know every step
of the way on that, and I'm a huge proponent
of the protocol and this and the procedures in in
place for the betterment of the most important thing, which
is player health and safety.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
How he comes out of the protocol who.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
Yeah, Max would Max would take those take those reps.
But but like I said, Kevin, there's you know, with
how the practice week is going to go and Thanksgiving
and things like that, there's a timeline there where you know,
I think first and foremost will make the decision, you know,
through the of the medical professionals and the not only
(21:02):
our staff, but the independent folks, and it's a medical
thing first and foremost, and then I do think, you know,
then at that point, you know, once you know, we
see where we're at in the week and what it's
looked like preparation wise, then we can make a football decision.
But until then, you know, I look at it, look
at it clearly as a medical decision.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
We get much difference schedule wise because of the.
Speaker 7 (21:25):
How we just have a little bit shorter day on Thursday,
maybe a little longer day on Wednesday and Friday to
make sure we give time for the players to have
Thanksgiving with their families in the afternoon.
Speaker 9 (21:36):
Talking past about the importance of the full weeks for him.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
Just giving the reps.
Speaker 9 (21:40):
Yeah, how unfortunate is that?
Speaker 5 (21:44):
You know, that's something you guys are gonna have to.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Yeah, it's it's it's definitely not ideal.
Speaker 7 (21:50):
And and really, you know, there's that phrase can be
applied to several you know, stops on the journey so
far early on for him, and and it's unfortunate because
all you want to do is go back to work.
And I thought there was some progression, you know, early
on in the game. We called it a little bit
more conservatively, but wanted to run the football in the game.
But we were able to hit a few you know,
(22:12):
hit a pass the Jets and you know a couple
of things in the movement game, just kind of pairing
the running pass together, and we were able to stay
really efficient on some of those third downs where I
thought there were some real moments of some of the
progression footwork wise we've talked about, and then you know,
you get into too many third and ten plus third
downs where we just didn't have enough plays forty four total,
(22:35):
every single one of our p and tens in the
first three drives of the second half, quick game call.
On the first one we take a sack, and the
next two our runs for negative runs. So we didn't
do anything in any way, shape or form to help ourselves,
even though you know, we were trying to stay true
to what the game plan was at that point. You know,
the big message at halftime was defense is going to
(22:56):
get a stop, and we're going to put a drive together,
and we're going to get back to running the football
and maybe get some play pass and some ways of
trying to generate some explosives to pair with some of
the quicker game, ball out kind of plays we were
coming into the game with and and and obviously the
turnover there essentially between the turnover and the fourth and
one where you know, we just missed a single block
(23:17):
on the play, otherwise we probably convert there. And and
I thought we needed some touchdowns to beat that team,
And it ended up being accurate in that assessment. Kind
of easy to still wait for the process to play out.
But if Max did have to start on Sunday, what's
your confidence level?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
A ton of confidence in Max.
Speaker 7 (23:37):
All he's done since he's been here is is show
up every single day and respond and answer the bell,
whether it's stepping in, you know, for some reps when
when guys were dinged up previously this year with the
first group, or you know, if you look at it
from a standpoint of what his absorption of the offense
was and throughout his first day here, all the way
(23:59):
through training camp, play in some of those games playing
against the Titans first team unit, you know, in that
preseason game, defensively and moving the team and getting the
ball out and seeing things at a at a you know,
a veteran level type of eye progression. I think, you know,
we all have a lot of confidence in Max. Ideally,
you'd love to you know, have a you know, a
(24:19):
bunch of road, you know, runway for him to continue
on his journey. But I know Max will prepare like crazy,
like he does every week. You know, he's been a
snap away here since Carson went on ir and and
I know he feels very much prepared if if called upon,
and he's going to go about the week as as
he's been doing, which is important for a guy that
is one snap away as a young player. How many
(24:41):
reps can we steal you know, pre practice, post practice.
He does all the little things to try to get
himself ready, you know, if he were to be called upon,
and that may be indeed this week, we don't know yet,
but we've got to prepare our team for sure.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
With the Seahawks, I know it's truly in the week
from a prep standpoint view level what it stood out
to you, But with the way Sam's.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
Played with yeah, to me, you know, Sam has continued
on with a lot of the things he did last
year for us.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
You know, they're very explosive. Uh there.
Speaker 7 (25:12):
He does a great job you know, getting uh, you know, getting.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
The playmakers involved.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
I think Smith and Jigg was one of the best
receivers in football.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
And they've got some good tight ends and some good some.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
Between Cooper and they make a trade for another you know,
skill player at the deadline, and uh, you just feel,
you know, some momentum of that offense and and uh,
you know, they're able to move it as well as
anybody in the league. With Sam running the show, they've
you know, had you know, really what's gotten them you know,
at times has just been turnovers, but that's any any
(25:44):
team in football.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
But as explosive as they've.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
Been in the amount of points they've put up, they're
absolutely going to be a challenge.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
And then you look at their defense.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
I think Mike's doing a phenomenal job with that defense,
all the acquisitions that they've made, young veterans, they're flying around,
and it is going to be a challenge for us.
We have to play good football, We have to play
you know, physical, We have to do a lot of
the little things just a little bit more consistent. And
you know, we're going to get another week to prepare
and and try to you know, find different avenues to
(26:15):
schematically to help our players as much as we can
and and uh, you know, give give our guys a
good plan to go play aggressive and physical road environment.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
We were able to get a win there last year.
Speaker 7 (26:26):
But we know how difficult of a place that can
be to go in and play.
Speaker 8 (26:29):
Kevin, as you look back through the sack yesterday, how
much did you see those being an issue with protection
up front versus the quarterback holding the ball on me?
Where did those kind of shake out in terms of
where the responsibility.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
Yeah, I think there was a couple where, you know,
you know, in some good on good matchups, we just
got beat where I don't think JJ had much of
a chance. And then as you look forward, like later
on in the game, where we became a little bit
more one dimensional, you know, down a score, down, two
scores down seventeen.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Yeah, just some zoning.
Speaker 7 (27:00):
Coverage looks where I think we you know, it's a
combination of you know, are we using the help up
front when we when we try to give those guys
the help to maximize the chances of having a clean
pocket to get a couple of hitches off. And then
for JJ just the efficiency of understanding that you know,
even in a game like that, it's still about completions.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
It's still about putting the ball in play.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
It's still about you know, trying to find a way
to continue to stack completions together and then.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
The ops will come. But you know, I thought we
had some chances.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
You know, early on in the game, there was a
first and tend play where we end up kind of
fumbling the exchange and getting tripped up a little bit,
where you know that that play had a chance to
really express itself. And then even in the second half,
you know, Justin's on a double move, you know, on
one of the very few chances he didn't you know,
have a double team on him, you know, in their
shell coverage stuff, and and you know we we take
(27:53):
a loss on the interior and end up taking a
sack there. So it was just kind of like, you know,
it would just teeter Todd back and forth, and all
in all, it wasn't good enough in any way, shape
or form.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
With Sam.
Speaker 10 (28:08):
Does he have some advantages you think and being familiar
with your defense and vice versa, might you have some
insights on him knowing him as well as you do
and working with him so much.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
Yeah, I think I think there's gonna be a little
of that probably on both sides. You know, he obviously
has a good amount of reps logged against our defense
over the course of training camp last year in the
off season program. And and we know Sam really well,
and what I would say about knowing him really well,
we know how talented he is. We know he can
make every throw and if and if we're not airtight
in our coverages, uh, they'll be explosive. And when they've
(28:41):
been able to make those explosive plays, that offense pair
of that with uh, you know, the ability to you know,
almost marry the explosive pass with the run game in
a lot of ways a little bit reverse. But you know,
I think Clint does a really good job putting together
a scheme that that tests your edges and.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Challenges you and how you're defending the run.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
And then they marry that to attack players' roles in
the defense with their run fits. And then they can
play action and do some different things with the screen
game to put guys in conflict where it becomes uh,
you know, kind of pitch and catch to some really
good players and a and a trigger man, they can
make all the throws. So I think there'll be some
back and forth with that, But at the same time,
(29:20):
there's much much more to it than than just that.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
Your impression of the reception of the way the players
in the locker room are handling quarterback.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Yeah, I think, you know, I think guys are you know,
behind him. I think they support him. I think they
understand that. You know, you probably ask a lot of
our guys, which I'm sure you do, and you get
a lot of you know, how can they be better
and they be at their best for the greater good
of not only JJ but our but our whole offense,
defense or special teams. You know, that's just the type
(29:54):
of building we have here, the type of players we have,
the type of leadership we get from our captains. But
at the same time, you know, our guys, you know,
have an expectation.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
To win, as do I.
Speaker 7 (30:04):
We've you know, won a lot of games around here,
but you know these stretches where you know, we've fallen
on some some difficult circumstances in many cases, you know,
playing good teams but also doing a lot of things
ourselves that I look at as my job to fix
and and we've got to do that, and we've got
to play good football and give ourselves a chance to
(30:26):
win these football games by not doing the things that
lose games, whether that's you know, protecting the football. No
matter what we're going to try to do, we're going
to try to protect the football, and then we're going
to continue to press onward to see if we can
generate some turnovers, which were obviously a.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Huge part of our team a year ago.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
And then in the kicking game phase, we've been better
in the return phase with I think Miles deserves a
ton of credit for that. We're playing a lot of
young guys on the special teams phase of our team,
and we've had really really bright, shining moments, and then
we've had some critical, critical plays that that I know
we've talked about that are incredibly impactful in one score
(31:05):
games at the time, tight games when those things happen
just can't happen.
Speaker 9 (31:11):
When j J just emotionally, I mean he's never really
lost as much YEA, playing where is he you're not
just from emotionally and emotionally handling what this has been.
Speaker 7 (31:24):
Yeah, he's a competitive guy and wants to win, but
I think he also understands the big picture for for
himself and how important you know, every moment is right
now for not only in the present, but for time
that's been lost, you know, and in some time on
task side of things. And I think it's very important
that we just continue to the principles of of him
(31:46):
playing the position the right way, in the way that
you know, we all see him included as the best
way for him to progress forward and upward in his journey.
We just got to see it as consistently as possible.
And then when there's factors that are outside of his controls,
that's part of it as well. It's not always going
to be seen like that, and we understand that he
(32:07):
understands that. But what am I doing, me being jj
of making sure I did take the right footwork I did,
you know, have my eyes in the right spots I progress,
you know, trust in the progressions to be able to
timely get the ball out of my hands and just
can continue to press forward, pairing that with hopefully running
the ball efficiently and you know, hopefully popping a couple
(32:28):
explosive runs in there to kind of make up for
the fact that maybe we're not having the type of
volume in our pass offense to generate the explosives that
have kind of been a staple of our offense. But
that's okay, that's how we play and how we schematically
try to attack people is what we think is best
for not only JJ, but for our offense and our
team at the time. And then it's how did the
(32:50):
other two phases play into that, Because when you're going
to play that style, it truly needs to be complimentary football.
I know a lot of people throw that out as
a term, but I think we're experiencing right now. You know,
when even in one or two play one off circumstances,
how hard it can be when you're trying to play
that style to to find a way to win a
(33:11):
football game. And as the growth and progression continues and
we make a couple of those plays, we talked about
the you know, playing the first half or maybe a
play late in the game too, to possibly kind of
break the seal of lack of plays in the passing game.
You know, many times all you need is one, All
you need is one or two flip the field, get
(33:31):
some momentum, see if you.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Maybe keep staying in attack mode. And we just haven't
quite gotten to that.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
I know yesterday we never really felt like outside of
sustaining a little bit on a few drives in the
run game. It never really felt like we we got
the foot to the pedal, like like you.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
Want to.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Diagnosed with a concussion.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
He is in the protocol and that that results from him,
you know, kind of reporting those things over the course
of our our travel home, then getting back here and
and you know, getting him through the testing and evaluations.
I believe that would be you know, the case at
least eliciting some symptoms that he reported, you know, and
(34:13):
then was confirmed when we were able to get.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
The full evaluation process.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
The degree or the level of which I don't want
to get into the certainly you know, the symptoms levels
and all that stuff. That's that's really not my job
more so than just to defer to the medical folks.
And now we'll go through the steps and phases of it.
I you know, I'm not ready to make any sort
of designation for the game or anything like that. It's
(34:38):
you know, we'll let the process play out. But at
the same time, I do think it's important for everybody
to know that there is total transparency. I'm going to totally,
you know, totally defer to the medical medical staff and
the professionals on that one as well as JJ.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
Do you think you look at adding a quarterback this
week for depth?
Speaker 7 (34:58):
Just yeah, I think you know, we've got John on
the on the practice squad with some elevations available. We'll
take a look at that, I know, uh, you know,
depending on where we're at at some other spots, you know,
hopefully you know, getting a guy like j g back,
you know, as he works through the week, we'll see
how he does. Uh, But we'll take a look at
our practice squad see where the depth is at other
(35:19):
spots there's really not you know, we're gonna want to
get John as many reps as possible running the look
team that maybe Max would have been taken a big meet,
big chunk of those if Max is indeed taking the
excuse me, the reps with the first team offense. So
definitely something that we'll discuss. And I know Qui Sie
and his his group are are probably working through some
(35:40):
of that right now.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Thanks thanks taking it to the Max. Was there a
jingle or wasn't there a TJ Max? Remember show, there's
a there's a story called TJ Max. I thought I
thought it's like a linebacker or something.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
No, there's a there's a uh, there's a uh. No,
you're thinking of t J.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Volt. I always think of Electric. It's got a brother
that place to take in it to them. It looks
like Max Prosmer. The quarterback conundrum. The quarterback conundrum plot thickens,
though I don't know if it's thickens. I think it's
(36:20):
a little wishy.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Washy, don't you.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
I know what you want to say on.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
The plane ride back? You know I don't feel so good.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
Do you think the coaches are the ones tell them
I think your head's not doing very well?
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Yeah, I wow, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (36:39):
I mean, I.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
I'm receiving a lot of emails.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
I still there's too many hoops to jump through to
try to I'm never going to be able to use
the uh brat John bron Cape in text line again.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
I'm just not gonna be able to do it because.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
I and I know I have to log on the email.
I can't do it in here, I can't do it
on my phone. I just it makes it more complicated.
They need a second Offen Decatur. I don't know why.
Why can't It was working fine?
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Before? It was working just beautiful. It didn't have an
issue with it.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
For how long.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Have we had the bratchon bron Kaba text line year
two years? Sure, never had a problem with it. Now
somebody decided, well I got to change it. So anyway,
I don't know what I'm gonna do, but some people
have heard me talk about it. It's inoperable at this point.
So I've received a number of emails booth at Kava
and dot com from people I'll go back to that
for a while, and people I think.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Are a little suspicious as well. So there's the.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Head coach of the soon to be Big Game World
champion Minnesota Vikings. We'll take a break, we'll come back,
We'll do some five to three form. We'll take a
deep dive into the Vikings game yesterday and the most
recent development. JJ McCarthy in the protocol, the concussion protocol.
Whether he plays or not this week, this upcoming game
against Seattle remains to be seen.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Tendby what you got for us?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
For a tease?
Speaker 2 (37:58):
You got one for us.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
We had a couple of Minnesota meltdowns this weekend, and
I might even talking about JJ's performance
