Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bad common man, common man, No show people solid plan
so we can't scared.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Approach will fail to in. It's time for common man.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Come man, common man, charge the houseless?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
A you a can?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
What should where we play?
Speaker 4 (00:24):
That's nonsense.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I'm dec tody to man.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's time for common man.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
Oh boy, why should anybody aspire to be a common man?
An average man? Do you realize what it means to
be average? That means you're the best of the lousiest
and the lousiest of the best. Now, if we demand
more and more for producing less and less while they
have not, nations encourage and inspire, and indeed require hard
(00:52):
work and maximum effort. If we deify the common man
while they encourage and reward the uncommon ones. On the
end result of such a lopsided braces that is too
obvious to require elaboration.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
You just have to dry your own conclusion.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
People that that that that.
Speaker 7 (02:03):
The Viking Tampa They Tampa Bay.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Who's wearing women's underwear? Part of your friendly?
Speaker 8 (02:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Baby, you find this funny, mister grow? You're smiling? Do
you find this humorous? Whether or not? Do you find
this humorous? Mister Grow? You're laughing and smiling. I'm just
wondering if you do. You don't answer my question, mister
grow do you find this humorous?
Speaker 6 (02:31):
No?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Four years two, so wish you're not smiling and laughing. Now, hey,
I guess you're back at it again now.
Speaker 9 (02:45):
I'm always hesitant to believe what I read. You know
what I mean, And I think that still it comes
down in society. Many times people are forced to believe
what they read, and many times what you read might
or may not be true.
Speaker 8 (02:58):
Listen to cool.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
You don't know nothing.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Ain't that the truth? Here we go instead of pumped
up around here. He's the clown from Brown, He's the
fourth in the north. This is the common man, Dan Coles.
And if I if I'm not the common man, I mean,
(03:28):
why do I look like me?
Speaker 8 (03:29):
Then?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
All right? I am what I am, and that's all
that I am. And if I'm supposed to be somebody else,
why do I look like me? Greetings, good afternoon in
ac akadak and dak dak akh. Yours ak akadak dak dakak.
Is your password for Tom Fooler and' skullduggery will gain
you advincent to a meeting of the loyal order of Buffalo.
It would not have gotten you into flop, sweat and
(03:51):
tears the Petty Theft tour, just a couple of pickpockets
up in Spicer. We brought the house down. That's is
good a performance Mondelo, Guy Meat Sauce in Common as
we've ever had, and we owe so much of it
to the audience. I remember comics used to always tell
me that was a good crowd, and I'm like, well,
what do you mean it was a good crowd. You're
(04:12):
supposed to bring You're supposed to bring the laughter out
of the crowd and make them a good crowd. But
I understand what it means. Now we've done back to
back shows at Cinema Grill. We'll do a seven point
thirty show. They think that that instead of Larry Mondello,
Guy Meet Sauce in Common, they're watching Dave Chappelle, Howie Mandel,
(04:33):
and Dave Attel. Then the next nine o'clock audience comes
in and they don't laugh at all. Same comics, same material,
same energy, same vibe. It doesn't work, but there was
a vibe up there. I would dare say there wasn't
a better comedy show in the country. On Saturday night
(04:54):
what they had in Spicer. And you can laugh at
that all you want.
Speaker 10 (04:57):
You even say, but you know you got your Dave Chappelle,
in your Howie Mandell's, and your day Bettels, and your
Dennis Miller's and your Jerry Stillers and your Phyllis Dillars.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And they're better than you. They might be, But I'm
just talking about for what we offer to what the
audience accepted, it was simply astonishing. I can break that
down and probably will. We have an NFL roundup to
get to the Lions melt down against Kansas City postseason
play has become it's the Brewers against the Dodgers. Common
(05:29):
wins a bet from Mark Rose and according to Power
Trip Bets, I don't think I owe Tenna an apology,
but I need an explanation, or maybe he needs one
from me. With that and so many other topics to
get to, where do we begin? I don't know. Let's
spin the wheel of topics. I don't really feel like
(05:49):
I owe you apology, but I haven't. I'm fast. I
gotta talked to about sometime today. Yesterday Ryan, I played
a lot of gol what'd you shoot today? Today? I
shot an eighty eight zero Bloggers trail, where'd.
Speaker 8 (06:05):
You hit it on?
Speaker 2 (06:06):
All right up the gut how far from the greenway?
I had an eight iron in my hands. I left
it a little short, kind of tugged on a little bit.
Then what decelled on the wedge, barely got it on
the green two putt and two puttet for bogie. Today
wasn't as good though I'm hitting the ball. So yesterday
was played a rare afternoon round twelve forty five, and
we played at Presswick, at Wedgewood and Woodbury and Tennebee.
(06:28):
You know as well as I do. The reason I
like playing right away well because of my hours of
my job I have to be done. Yeah, I got
to play in the morning, and I just afternoon golf
on a weekend. We were on pace for about a
four hour, fifteen minute round me before twenty two tennis side,
which is about right at any golf public golf course
(06:49):
on a weekend. Right, So I shoot forty to a
sloppy forty two on the front. And because I have
the official unofficial ambassador to Minnesota golf, I said, do
you guys, Mitch, we just played the front again. I
mean because there's nobody on the front. There was two
groups we ran into and they made a nice pad,
so we played to ten on the front. We played
a buck thirty on the back. I mean, how nice
(07:11):
is that?
Speaker 8 (07:11):
Right?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Just hour thirty minutes. That back's the second nine, the
front nine. A second time, I had an experience that
was not unlike that of a PGA Tour pro. And
you're familiar with that tennemy, you can probably relate to this.
I went Bertie Bogie, Birdie Birdie to start on that back.
I mean, I was, I was, I was lighting it up.
(07:33):
I ended up shooting a thirty five, so I went
forty two to thirty five. I love the way I'm playing.
A week ago, I would have told you I was
waiting for a big snowstorm because I didn't want to
play anymore. But I feel forced to play because I'm
the ambassador. It's a hell of across to bear having
to play golf every day. I have to. It's part
of the responsibilities. When a Ventura, the former governor, Jesse Ventura,
(07:55):
gave me the proclamation, it basically said, you need to
play every day, and so I and I did, and
I'm out Thursday and Friday playing golf all day long Thursday,
and I've got to be kidding me, ten I Fitzgerald
will be setting sits sale on the Wedesday. You have
a little teas at all, Tennabe, I mean anything you
want to let the audience know about Thursday and Friday.
(08:16):
I mean, I'm a lot of lifeboats, I'm sure, but
anything in any surprises? Will you be playing program pass?
Where do you be playing?
Speaker 7 (08:23):
Put zero F out into it? Up until this point?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Here's what I'll tell you. That sounds like you're taking
after the host of this show. You probably shouldn't do that.
Speaker 11 (08:30):
Have some days ahead of us here, but I mean
I'm assuming rows it'll be there Thursday.
Speaker 7 (08:35):
Are we doing spread swing? Are you out on that?
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (08:38):
I can do spreading calling.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Yeah, I can do. Yeah, I'll do spread spring for sure.
I'll be let's see where we will be on that round.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
Yeah, so one thirty three is already done on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, thats ez. I t off at one forty on
the second round, so be perfect. I'll just hit a
shots at the phone. I'll just go I'm okay, that's
very good. I wonder if I can outlast another boss.
We have another boss now today we're not allowed to
talk about this, aren't we.
Speaker 7 (09:07):
I don't know why we went.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know why. The legendary Greg Sweabber,
who has been here longer than I have. He's been
been programming K one O two forever. He's also the
senior vice president of programming here. iHeart Minneapolis and has
been ever since I've been here. He's been in my
corner forever. He's been my guy. He was my guy
(09:30):
before he was your guy. And the only reason he
was my guy before it was your guys because I
started here before you. And he's always been there for me,
gone to bat for me. And but he now wants
to spread his wings a little bit and he's become
he's in the Country Radio Hall of Fame.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
Yeah, and he's.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
So good at programming country. He's like I think his
job described you were there for. I didn't even know
there was a meeting. All embarrassing was that when I
walked in the door, I knew.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
It was haphazardly put together today.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Because I knew something was going on.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
Yeah, because I.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Walk in here in the not a soul anywhere, but
I see all the salespeople seem I could have been
a detective. I could have been clumble, there's something bothering
me here. That one last thing, there's something bothering me here.
I noticed that all the salespeople they had their belongings
on their desk. The gals had their purses there, and
you know, maybe you know some of them keep a
sweater over their chair. The gentlemen have their backpacks there there.
(10:21):
So I know something's up right. So I go back
to the performance student and open the doors, and the.
Speaker 11 (10:27):
Rest of us knew something else because we just received
an email and we were able to see it on
our phone.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
Yeah apparently.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Yeah, well I don't check my phone when I'm playing golf. Yeah,
and again it's no one. Well we didn't know about it,
like twenty minutes from meeting. Yeah, so that's why I
didn't know either. So I walked in and there they weren't.
Gene Romano was there. He's a big shot from her.
He likes me. I think, I just tell him, my,
you know, you're not supposed to wing it. You know,
that's the last thing you're supposed to do. You're supposed
(10:52):
to have to show all preptitus t I just wing it,
and he's all right with it, because you know how
tall I ams tend to be. Only another nice report card,
well done.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
I haven't seen yet. I'm assuming it's.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
It's better than we've ever had. Blow the horn.
Speaker 7 (11:09):
I want this one.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Better than we've ever had, think about it. In thirty years,
we're still getting better. That deserved her belt for eighteen.
He's coming back to town again. So and now so
(11:34):
now yeah, so obvious Webur' is still going to base
out of here. But he's gonna be like he's I
think he's going to He's going to be like he's
going to like oversee all the country music stations in
uh if I understood it correctly because I went there
for the meeting you were, maybe you got a better I.
Speaker 7 (11:49):
Don't know explained to us.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I think he will be overseeing all the country stations
in the iHeart chain, which is there are hundreds, hundreds,
hundreds of country stations, so good for him. He'll be
in and out. He'll still be based in Minneapolis. Rich
Davis another brilliant programmer. I love Rich Davis, always have.
I always thought he was under rated. From Mitch, my
good friend Mitch Davis, and I always thought Mitch, that's good.
(12:11):
I like that, and I've always thought Mitch should have
more responsibilities.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I've always liked Mit. I hope I like Mitch. I
think he does a really good job. Though I don't
think he's gonna want me pestering him as much as
I pester Sweedburg because I go see Sweedbird twice a
day before I go on the air, and afterwards sometimes
Sweedburg out well maybe because we'll talk and then Sweatburg
will go you're keeping me from my work. I'll talk
to him for like a half hour, forty five minutes.
(12:39):
That's called brown nosing ton to be. Staying in good
with the boss is always good to do, especially when
you're like me, when you're a morale drain in a malcontent. Uh.
There is plenty to get to. We're back with Vikings
football finer. That bye week is boring, that doesn't do
much for me. And it's a jam pack leaderboard on
the top of the NFL North How about that we'll
(13:01):
talk about the purple next to peek at the Purple.
Plenty of other items to get to as well. Here
on the kind of man brokeram on the fan and
Tannebee has got a keyword. It's the National Cash Contest.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
We can do a two hour commercial filling it with
Paul McCartney songs. Those are real, Paul McCartney sounds. I
didn't do the bit where I mix and match other artists.
I've seen him twice. The first time I saw him
was at I've told this story before. I saw him
at the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg. I roll fifteen.
I'm thinking, I'm gonna be able to basically what he sings.
(14:37):
He'll be spitting on me. I'll be that close. Well,
there's like sections A through Z, and they all had
a fifty throw. I was like miles from the stage,
and then I was watching him on the nine story
big screen instead of looking at I thought, this is ridiculous.
I just can't do this. And then I stumbled across tickets.
Two years later when he was over at the old
(15:01):
the Old Fuse Box which is now the Jackpot, which
is a Grand Casino Hinckley, and he was doing the
same crowd wrap, same set. I left halfway through. I
left the legendary, Paul McCartney says, And so say it
isn't so peak at the Purple brought to you by
your friends at affordable Electric for all of your electrical needs.
(15:22):
And if you're looking for work, if you want a job,
if you're an apprentice electrician or a journeyman, they're looking
for work. They got a simple plan, they got competitive wages, benefits,
You get a truck. It's pretty cool. Reach out to
him today. Affordable dash electric dot com. Affordable dash electric
dot com. And remember, if I've told you once, I've
told you a couple thirteen fourteen different times. Affordable electric
(15:47):
is shockingly, I say, shuckingly affordable. What was right below negatrometer?
Speaker 8 (15:54):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Oh, do you remember what you?
Speaker 8 (15:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
I dried down something. I have two trometers. What was
there right below negatrometer? No idea, I have no idea either.
Whatever it was, I think it was one of the horns. No,
there's the trombone below that. I guess we'll just have
to do without it.
Speaker 7 (16:11):
Do you have, oh boy in yours?
Speaker 8 (16:13):
No, I don't know. I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
What we well, we'll figure out.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
We'll figure it out next time you need it.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yes, that's exactly right. I uh, NFC horse, NFC horse.
It's a it's a jam packed at the leaderboards, and
to me it's top heavy. Your Green Bay Packers are
in first place by a scant thirty three percentage points.
They are three to one and one. After yesterday's victory
(16:39):
over the Joe Flacco led Cincinnati Bengals almost pulled that
game out. They went for the two point conversion to
cut it to six. The Jordan Love guy made is
good at place. It was I think it was third
down and long and they flushed him out of the
pocket and running to his left and falling back.
Speaker 8 (16:59):
It was.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
It was a la Brett Favre he hit that. I remember
which you who's number eight their wide receiver whoever?
Speaker 7 (17:06):
I's thinking of Matthew Golden. Maybe was matthe zero?
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah, maybe was Matthew gold Somebody caught the ball and
uh and that was game, set match. But that is
the one thing about a veteran like Flacco. He's not
in the facility until Tuesday, and it's just not that hard.
That's why they always try to make these you know,
every sport, the people that are involved in it and
do it for a living, trying to.
Speaker 8 (17:26):
Make it so complicated.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
It's really hard. Joe just walks in and picks up
a playbook and he's winging it all over the field.
It's not as hard as people want to especially when
you're a veteran. I guess it comes easier. Lions lose
last night, they're four and two, your Vikings sitting at
three and the team Tennabe only one hundred percentage points
out of first place. And the Bears play tonight they
are two and two. They could join the Vikings at
(17:48):
three and two or lose, depending obviously, to be a
game back of Minnesota, depending upon the outcome. I'm not
sure if you watch much of Detroit Kansas City, Yeah,
most of it. Detroit melted down. They had a couple
of bad mistakes and at the end of the game,
the branch guy popped the bolt and he can't do that.
There was there were two guys that popped the bolt
(18:08):
and they were critical plays. Well, the branch one was.
After the game was over. Yeah, he dissed Mahome. Holmes
went over to say, hey, you know, a nice game,
See you next time. He dissed him. And then was
it Juju Juju Smith's sister. He was bitter about that.
Now why he's bitter, I don't know. He should just
roll your eyes, shrug your shoulders.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
He explained his bitterness.
Speaker 8 (18:28):
Oh what was it?
Speaker 11 (18:29):
Announcing the replay of the bitterness. Okay, So one of
the last plays of the game, Juju Smith Schuster kind
of blocked him from behind, and he was upset that
he got blocked from behind.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
I see, okay, because Juju Smith Schuster goes over there,
I guess to get in Branch's face about dissing Mahomes
and then Branch punches him. So now Branch will probably
get suspended and fine, and they're already lacking in the
secondary as it is. The other one was a critical
play where Hutchinson and roughing the passer and it was
(19:01):
clearly roughing the passer. He had took two steps slant.
That's frustration not being able to get to Mahomes all
night long. You can't do it.
Speaker 7 (19:09):
You got any quarterback to hit late, Mahomes is not there.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah, he Ultimately it was just bad and then you
know my guy, and I can't be mad at him
because a mon Ros Saint round is so good. He
dropped a critical pass and then golf on the trick
play to score their first tuddy that got called back.
He needs to set so they they kind hisself and
played in Kansas City. When Mahomes is on tennaby, I'm
not an idolizer and pedestals, but when he's when when
(19:33):
he's playing like he did last night, he's just so good.
So uh yeah. So we'll see what happens tonight with
the Bears. The head coach of the soon to be
Big Game World Champions, Kevin O'Connell, will have his news
conference coming up on the other side of the break.
That's next coming Man program here on the fan and
by the way, pick at the Purple brought to you
by Affordable Electric, Affordable Dash Electric dot Com.
Speaker 11 (19:58):
Head of the Vikings Egos Game Sunday, we'll come find
our street team on the plaza outside of US Bank
Stadium and ask us how you can enter beer shot
at Papa Murphy's game. Dame Meal deals for a year.
Check out campan dot com keybord calendar for all the details.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Speaking of the Purple, the head coach of the soon
to be Big Game World Champion Minnesota Vikings and the
Raid and ANFL Coach of the Year. He's that winter
park right now, the new Winner Park, the TCO Performance Center,
and he's conducting his news conference as we speak.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Those who brave the trip with us, it was good
to be back home. And had a good, good week
of work here, gave the players some much deserved time off,
but coaching staff wise, we were able to you know,
kind of use a lot of the five weeks of
inventory that we had to assess where we're at as
a team and as we try to you know, come
(20:47):
out of this by getting getting some players back, getting
healthy at some spots, and we will continue to do
so over these next few weeks. We're excited about the
opportunity we have as a team and still a lot
of room to continue to improve. And I think that's
going to be a huge thing for for this year's team,
and it's really every year's team is improving throughout you know,
(21:11):
these these next few weeks to try to become the
best version of of what we can be towards you know, towards.
Speaker 8 (21:18):
The tail end of the season.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
And but at the same time understanding that the schedule
is going to be a challenge and we've got some
really good teams that we've got to get.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
Ready to play.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
And it starts with this with this week, you know,
welcoming the Eagles to town, defending champs, very very talented
football team, and it's it's going to be one where
we're very excited to be back at us Bank Stadium.
Speaker 8 (21:40):
It does feel like it's been a little bit.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Of time since we've had an opportunity to play in
front of our fans, which we're very much excited about
and also excited to open up. Blake Cashman's window will
open up today. We'll go out for some on field
work today to kind of get the week kicked off,
and you will will also have Donovan Jackson, Michael Jurgens, Brown,
(22:03):
O'Neil and j J McCarthy taking part in the work
today as well as throughout the week in different different capacities.
But we'll be great to get cash back on the
practice field opening that window up. And he's done done
a heck of a job getting himself ready to go
and give him the week of preparation and see where
(22:23):
he's at towards the tail end of the week. But
very much looking forward to getting after it with the
guys today. Had a good week, but it's it's time
to go to work.
Speaker 12 (22:36):
In the first five weeks, how challenging was it to
have takeaways when you've been playing without so many key players, And.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
I guess how did you sort of work your.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
Way through that.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Yeah, I think, like what I what I tried to do,
and especially sitting with Flow and and you know, spending
quite a bit of time talking through just our team
in general. But when you look at when you look
at you know where the injuries have happen in some
cases in game and some of the you're trying to
make as many adjustments as you can to try to
(23:06):
win that game that day. Does that fall in alignment
with what you want your identity of your team to
be and you try to keep the things as close
together as you can. But I think the big thing
looking at it from a thirty thousand foot view is
we've got to continue to do the simple things better.
And what I mean by that is fundamentals of each
(23:28):
and every call. I think the calls, whether it's a
defensive call, play call on offense, or even Matt Daniels
in the kicking game. Can we play with great technique
and fundamentals and have all eleven guys doing their job
penalty free football. That's looked like Minnesota Vikings football, even
when we've had to deal with some of the adversity
(23:49):
of injuries so far through the first five games and
as we get healthy. That doesn't mean you can just
look the other way on a lot of those things.
We've got a coach to that standard, and then we've
got to try to find a way to match the
plans to be in alignment with what we want our
identity to be as a team, how we think we
can win, what it's going to take to win against
(24:09):
really good football teams. It seems like week in and
week out, every team you're gonna play is going to
be talented, they're going to be well coached.
Speaker 8 (24:17):
You've got to do those little.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Things right, and a lot of them fall in alignment
with our foundational principles of how we've won a lot
of games around here, whether it's the turnover battle, whether
it's being a fundamentally sound team, tackling some of the
things that allow you to get opportunities on defense to
force turnovers by creating more negative plays and disruption that
(24:40):
causes the negative plays, and then you get teams into
these longer down and distances.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
And we've seen it the other way with our offense.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
You know, early down penalties or negatives got to be elite.
Speaker 8 (24:52):
With our ball security.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
The rest of the way to truly play these games
the way we want to play them, and then when
the ball gets kicked off, we've got to then do
whatever it takes to try to win. As the inevitable
kind of ebbs and flows of a game happened, but
that doesn't change the fact that we've got to prepare
and it's my job to prepare the team in a
way to go out and win games.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
The way we we know we can play.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
And we've got to just make sure that that standard
is being met. Starts with me all the way down
through our roster. I see from JJ last week during
his time with the Buy and then where are you
thinking that practicing.
Speaker 8 (25:26):
We had some good work last week.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
It was it was great to get back on the
grass and and had uh, you know, some good sessions
out there, kind of getting back to a lot of
the principles of lower body mechanics and and things that
had had, you know, been really good parts of his
early journey here and and didn't even hit me un
(25:48):
till we were out there. He had practiced one time
since we had left Chicago. He had practiced one time officially,
So a lot of a lot of the things you're
you know, allowing him to get his health back and
get his feetback underneath him, but then building that foundation
of fundamentals and techniques that really you can talk about
routes and certain throws and certain plays and things like that,
(26:10):
but it's the foundation of throwing mechanics from the ground
up that you know, he's really taken two since he
since he got here, and just the consistency of it,
whether it was dealing through playing through that injury, you know,
towards the second half of that Atlanta game, or and
and really you're not talking about an incredible amount a
body of work when you're considering that when that injury
(26:32):
happened in the week that he had leading into that game.
So I'm very excited to get him back officially practicing.
I don't necessarily want to put a percentage on where
I think he's at health wise, and I think, well,
you know, this week will be massive for our whole team,
But just to see JJ back out there getting reps
(26:52):
and working through the process of building that foundation back up,
and we got off to a really good start last week.
I was very forte to get that time with him.
Do him as a possibility for Sunday team or is
this more of a long term thing like you're talking
about with the fundamentals. Yeah, I think you know, we've
got to prepare to to try to win a game
on Sunday, and Carson you know as well, working with
(27:16):
you know.
Speaker 8 (27:16):
His left shoulder, he'll practice as well.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
But we really want to get our team ready to go,
and in the process of doing that, JJ is you know,
has his his plan of attack that we want to
try to make sure we maximize every single day and
prepare all of our guys to be ready to go
and and make the best decision for our team and
then also for for individually for each one of those
(27:39):
guys as we get closer to it, but not ready
to say yet exactly where he'll be at towards the
end of the week. Want to see how this week
plays out first.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
I mean you've talked about footwork with JJ a few times.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
What specifically do you want to see him kind of
refine here sharpen up as he gets back at it.
Speaker 8 (27:56):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
You you quarterback plays about you know, the foundation of
getting to that premier base and body position at the
top of your drop, whatever that drop is. That could
be quick game, that could be a five seven step
drop that can be you know, a play action pass
where you turn your back to the defense, whatever it is,
(28:17):
you're still getting to that optimal position at the top
of your drop, so then you can read, you know,
with your feet and eyes tied together and play in rhythm,
and the time clock can naturally be something that if
you're just listening to you know what, you're listening to
your feet and seeing what your eyes see as far
as our guys open or not, and then progressing. Because
(28:38):
I think one of the things he's he's you know,
took away from these two or three weeks of watching
Carson play was just the power of completions that maybe
don't necessarily always go to the first or second progression.
It might be TJ you know, helping out on a
protection and it's it's a critical twelve yard game when
all we did was really check the ball down, or
(29:00):
it's you know, being surgical with your accuracy when number
one is open and you do that by getting to
that foundation and then playing with great balance and rhythm
from that point, and it's it's something that seems like, hey,
you know, that seems like just quarterback play one oh one,
But I watched a lot of football yesterday and didn't
see it as much as you would think you should
(29:21):
see it. And that's just the nature of playing a
really difficult position with a lot of variables in front
of you down the field, different coverages and techniques and leverages,
and we're trying to give the best plays we possibly can.
But within those plays you have five eligibles for a reason,
and finding that open eligible and putting the ball and
(29:42):
play and the power of preserving not only yourself but
the integrity of staying efficient as an offense is ends
up being the quarterback's job a lot of the time
when it's not always fair based upon how things are
around them or the adversity around them from a st
in point of some of the injuries that have hit us,
and and that's just part of why the position is
(30:03):
so difficult. But the beauty of the work last week was,
you know, this is purely just about let's just work
on the technique and fundamentals and break it down to
a place where we can really take tangible Wow, that
felt different, that felt great, or that's how you know,
that's why we coach it like that, And you know
(30:25):
pretty soon he's he's throwing the ball great, and he's
got a smile on his face, and you're stacking reps
upon reps that that will matter as now he gets
to transition to actual, real reps on the practice field
and and having the extra day here to get a
little head start will be great and then we'll work
through it from there.
Speaker 8 (30:42):
Where is Carsons with his shoulder just coming down the
last week, Yeah, he was, he was sore coming out
of the game.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
He's he's he's gotten a good place where he can,
you know, participate as well and take part in the preparation.
Speaker 8 (30:55):
And the biggest thing for him is it's.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
A non throwing shoulder, so it's it's a matter of
working through that soreness as it as it comes to them,
and you know, then it's going to be about for Carson,
you know, the same types of things that we talk
about with JJ, albeit different because they're totally two different
body types, different types of throwers from a standpoint of
their lower body mechanics, but at the same time, the
(31:19):
principles remain the same. And I think Carson's done a
really good job of without a bunch of time on
task in the offense, understanding, you know, that completion mindset,
and I think even some of the times where he's
maybe tried to hold onto the ball or create a play,
you know, that's led to maybe taking some more hits
than he needs to. So I think it's.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
You're playing against a really good front this week.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
You know, one of the best interiors probably in the
whole NFL, and the integrity of the interior of the
pocket is going to be critical.
Speaker 8 (31:50):
But at the same.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Time, playing in rhythm and finding that completion in the quickest,
most efficient way possible will hold true for both those guys.
Speaker 12 (32:00):
Ever, be comfortable to taking a decision on a quarterback
status like up to game time or is because of
that position you kind of need to know by end
of the week, just for continuity's sake.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Yeah, I think yeah, I think there's I think there's
the decision that is the public one, and I think
there's the decision one with what we're going to do
for the game, and those two things can be on
different timelines. Although I know that's not the most comforting
thing to share with you guys, but there is a
(32:31):
there is a feel of, uh, you know, making sure
that we're preparing the quarterback position for the game. Knowing
that we've we've won games with two different guys this year,
and we've we've found a rhythm at times on offense
that as much as that quarterback plays a huge role
in it, we've got to make sure our offense is
(32:52):
prepared to play with that true all eleven mindset, because
when we've moved the ball pretty consistently without some of
those you know, early down inefficiencies that have caused us
either to be in third and longs and not be
able to stay on the field, or you know, the
early down put the ball on the ground turnover with
(33:12):
you know, you look back at the last game, we
had two fumbles, both of which I believe took place
on first and ten in a pretty optimal position on
the field. One when we had been driving the first
drive of the game, and then later on when the
defense was able to get a stop backed up, we
get a good point return by Miles Price, and then
we put the ball on the ground there. And every
(33:33):
single one of those has their own stories, for sure.
Our ball carriers they've heard it from me already today,
they'll hear it every single day from here on out.
But ball security has to be a premium for the
way we're going to win games. And we were able
to overcome losing the turnover battle, we lost the field
position battle, we lost a lot of the metrics that
(33:54):
say you should when you lose those things, you should
lose those games. But we won the football game because
we did what was required to win that game. But
that does not mean that there's still not a lot
of things we need to improve on to be a
little bit more consistent as a team. And the quarterback
position is obviously a part of that, Dave. But at
the same time, we've got to prepare that position just
(34:16):
like the rest of our team, where it's principles of
playing good football that I think can be our separator.
Speaker 8 (34:23):
And and and.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Then we allow the health and kind of the readiness
factor to help drive that decision later on.
Speaker 8 (34:30):
In the week. Yeah, he's doing better.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
He's he's uh, he's going to be working on a
side field, you know, early on this week. And then
what I see is, you know, you know, his workload
hopefully picking up as we go. I don't really have
an update on his availability for Sunday yet, want to
see kind of how he how he does with some
of that side field work, and uh, he'll be a
(34:55):
critical guy to get back in there when we can
just from a you know, the nucleus of our core
defensive group. He does so many things that you know,
help make a lot of the calls go. Is versatility
allowing other guys to be kind of back back in
kind of their sweet spot for their role within the defense.
And then I think a guy like Blake Cashman coming
(35:16):
back is critical as well because you know, he assumes
that green dot position and we have just seen since
we got Blake when he's out there and we're playing
the type of defense that we've been accustomed to see
and Blake's got a lot to do with it.
Speaker 8 (35:31):
So very very excited to get him back.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
And Gink's going to be on you know, a timeline
here that I don't necessarily have at this time, but
I do feel positive about where he's at today and
moving forward.
Speaker 13 (35:43):
Having you spoke earlier about the identity you guys kind
of had to be in survival mode injury wise, also traveling.
What is the identity you think of the team now
and what do you want it to be or is
it the same right now?
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I think the characteristics of our team need to be
a consistent regardless of who's on the field. That's been
one of the things that I haven't liked about, you know,
some of the turnovers or you know, we've got to
force some more. You know, we've we've forced a good
chunk of our turnovers in one game, and that was
(36:19):
a great performance by our team that day, and I
think the score was indicative of a lot of things
looking like they were in alignment with how we want
to play. I think the defensive opportunities for turnovers will come,
and they'll come with us being efficient on offense and
maintaining possessions and scoring some points and trying to let
(36:40):
those guys play with a lead at times and making
people a little bit more one dimensional than being in
these kind of back and forth kind of games, which
is the NFL, such as life in the NFL. But
I think as we get guys back, hopefully you're seeing
that standard in that line elevate with the initial en
tensions of our roster coming to life. And that'll be
(37:03):
this week with Blake and some of those other guys
coming back, eron coming back at you know, at some
point in the near future, and and and then just
continuing to you know, build on the original intent of
how the team was put together, but at the same time,
you know, manufacturing clear path to winning each week is
it's a week to week thing in the NFL. It's
a matchups and opponents and all those things. What they
(37:26):
do well, what you have to make sure that you
do your best to try to mitigate from a standpoint
of their their strengths to try to win. You know,
at the risk of a word, salad, that's the best
I could give you, But I'm sure that still can
be interpreted as a salad.
Speaker 8 (37:42):
So I'll stop there.
Speaker 7 (37:43):
What's turned out as you watched a lot of football yesterday?
Speaker 8 (37:45):
And how do you analyze the landscape of the NFC?
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Yeah, I think you know, there's so many games where
I'm sure fans watching them like I was watching yesterday.
Speaker 8 (37:55):
It is very very there there.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
It's razor thin, the difference between a game looking certain
ways and not and being down to the wire back
and forth thing and just the ebbs and flows of
games and with the way you know, it seems like
the one thing that always hits me is just you
watch college games on Saturday and then you watch pro
games on Sunday.
Speaker 8 (38:17):
The games fly by sequences of games.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Teams can hold the ball for nine, eight, nine, ten
minutes on a drive and just totally capture just the
momentum of having the ball in many ways in the NFL,
And then you start looking at your Yeah, you could
be averaging over six yards of play, and you can
be efficient and all these things, and then you look
up and it's the middle of the third quarter and
(38:41):
you've run thirty plus place as opposed to trying to
get to that sixty plus number. And there's a lot
of ways to get to though that number. But nine
times out of ten it comes back to are you
not doing the things that stunt your ability to have
a drive? Penalties, turnovers, short fields, especially team's one play phase,
(39:01):
being able to flip the field like Ryan Wright did
against the Browns last week and put them backed up,
which should inevitably turn hopefully into a good field position
for the next sequence of possessions. But to answer your question,
it just seems like every play matters.
Speaker 8 (39:17):
It seems like whether if.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
You're going to try to say, hey, this is a
weighty down, I don't even know how you say that anymore.
Speaker 8 (39:22):
Because they all feel weighty throughout a game.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
That second and seven explosive that you get in the
playpass game, or that third and three conversion where you
get three and a half, they all seem to be
massively important. And if you're going to try to pinpoint
going into the game, oh, this play right here is
going to be the one, then you're probably going to
be looking back on the game at many, many other
(39:45):
plays in the game. So I think it's the consistency factor.
Playing good football with good principles of tackling guys, communicating guys,
all fundamentals, and then trying to manufacture momentum by stacking
plays throughout your team. Then in the NFL game isn't
just one phase, it's all three phases. Having to put
(40:06):
those things together to play against good teams and win.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
And there you go. That's the head coach of the
soon to be a big game world champion Minnesota Vikings,
the rain NFL coach of the Year. It's not really
good at dodging The QB question tend to be why
is he just a minute? Max bros. And we're starting
Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagle. It's gonna be uh Carson Wentz, right, Yeah,
I mean that's I.
Speaker 7 (40:30):
Mean, he's going along with my playbook.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Yeah exactly, I mean, if he's fully right, Yeah, it's
they're going with Wentz. Because if McCarthy wouldn't have been
so bad for those seven quarters, it'd be a different thing.
I think if you've been here, if he'd shown a
we played pretty well, played Okay, you know, I made mistakes,
rookie mistakes that you're gonna see from a guy. But
it was so bad as we talked about earlier. And
(40:54):
I get the frustration of the hardcore fans that feel
like this team's going nowhere that regardless if it's Whence
or Bros. When McCarthy, the team adn't gett into the
big game, And I you know, what odds are there,
not right, just because that's only only two teams get there,
one out of the NFC, one out of the AFC.
(41:15):
We haven't been there since nineteen seventy nine or seventy seven,
whatever it was. But the organization ain't going to play
it like that. The coaching staff, the players, the organization,
they don't play it like that.
Speaker 7 (41:24):
They play like.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
We're a game out of first and so guess what
we're we're We're we're going hard and so breaking news
the NFL related.
Speaker 11 (41:36):
Yes, we already have a coach fired in the National
Football League.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Let me guess who Saints.
Speaker 11 (41:48):
No, Tennessee Titans have fired their head coach, Brian Callahan.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
Callahan done, so he's out.
Speaker 7 (41:55):
Didn't last very long?
Speaker 2 (41:56):
No, sure certainly didn't last very long. Yeah, I think
Wentz is the guy at Tendabe and I I'm on
board of it. I mean, I understand the counter argument
when we've talked about it for two weeks now, two
or three weeks. However long Wentz has been quarterback in
particularly during this bye week, last week's bye week, where
(42:16):
it's like you want to see what you got. But
in the in the two games he's played, he hasn't
been any good.
Speaker 7 (42:23):
He's been you have seen meet to a certain extent, and.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
He's been awful. He had the one great quarter. You
see other guys like how good has Jackson Dart been?
Really good moments miss Smith, especially last week, you know,
even better than the first week. You see young quarterbacks
Jayden Daniels, uh the May character. Now May is how
many years has he been here? A second year but
(42:47):
May has been great, so you know I and so
I know people want to see it. Those guys are
a little ahead of the game because they played last
year and they want to see it. But it's like,
I'm sorry, but just because you want, just because you
want to give up on the seat and see what
you got with with with with and you know what, Tenneby,
I could be completely backpedaling here. On Friday, if it's
(43:08):
announced JJ McCarthy will be starting for the Vikings against
against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it just doesn't seem like
that's gonnapp And.
Speaker 7 (43:16):
I'll say it again.
Speaker 11 (43:17):
We are what week seven coming up, There's plenty of
time to see JJ McCarthy if at that point the
season is going nowhere, because that's the argument right now,
well this season is not going to go anywhere. Well,
at some point then it won't go anywhere, right, and
you'll get to that point where like, all right, well
we know we're out, let's let's take a look at it.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
That's exactly right if we but.
Speaker 11 (43:34):
As of right now, the season still could go somewhere.
So you give yourself your best chance to get winn
against Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
It's Philadelphia, and then San Diego. Right, so you lose
to let's say you lose to Philly and loose to
the Chargers and Wentz's average at best, well, then you
can say, all right, we're three games out of first
and you really got the feel, and maybe a couple
more injuries, so then you do say, okay, let's go
ahead and give it to them and give them the ball.
So we'll see how it pans out. But that seemed
(43:59):
to be they are getting some guys back. Jackson will
play it sounds like Cashman will play, cash in, cash in,
and so some players are coming back. So that's it's
all good. When we returned Timmy five, three four, what
you got for us?
Speaker 7 (44:16):
Yeah, one local team came back to Earth.
