Speaker 1 (00:43):
Five Whole Sports Bar in Minneapolis six to eight pm
Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Sweet, I've already come up with the trivia questions.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Oh okay, very good? Uh not nineteen ninety hip hop trivia?
I hope all hockey related?

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Oh very good.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
We're gonna do a probably a truncated version for I
three four as the head coach the sooner to be
Big Game World Champion Minnesota Viking schedule for his midweek
news conference live from TCO Performance Center the New Winter
Park at.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
About one twenty. So let's dive into a little five
to three four time. Now four.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Five questions, Well, actually three, but five sounds like more
than four.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Question number one.

Speaker 6 (01:25):
Time now for an hit depth look at the state
of the state of hockey.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
I think we're fall where in the state the state.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Of hock Yeah, I getting goosebumps every time I hear that.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Hear that I'm coming down with se well, not state
of cocky, because they did not win last night. They
lost five to two in Dallas to the Stars. Stars
goalie Jake Ottinger one of us. He made thirty nine saves.
He still hasn't lost to the Wild and regulation in
his career. He's now eighth to three against the Wild.
Coroka Priesoff had a goal and assist and his ninth
are tied for most in the NHL comin let's stick

(02:03):
out to you from last night's loss in the d.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Uh I I I I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I I guess everything you you just pointed out. I
don't know what to make I I I would I
would defer to you. I I go I I I
go with the theory that you had that, Yeah, we
got Carill, we've got some other players. We still need

(02:31):
to fortify in certain areas, and we're missing a couple
of players that are expected to contribute a lot. They
who are who are missing? Again now, Nico Stern, Yeah, exactly,
And I think don't didn't Zooks and Carill play on
the same line most times?

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Times? So again, so uh, you had said, you know.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
At the very least, it puts players and roles they
should be in, right, You got a third line player
now on the second line and a fourth line player
on the third line.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I think most people felt that they were a fringe
playoff tam They could make the playoffs, but it wasn't
there gonna be the number one seed overall. But then,
as you have said a couple of times, until Carell
got injured last year, we were one of the best
teams in hockey. So I don't know, I really don't
know what to make of the team. I think it's
sort of like I think NBA and a NHL and
even Major League Baseball is kind of the same, where

(03:24):
it takes more than a couple of games or a
week of games in order to really get anything figured out,
So I don't know what to make What do you
think about what happened?

Speaker 1 (03:33):
I mean there are lots of good things to take
out of it. I mean one is Carill, Caapriestoff, and
Matt Boldy looked like absolute superstars. We already knew that
about Carill, right, but even he's gotten off to slow
starts in the past. The power play is outrageous, both
their goals again last night, we're on the power play.
I think the one panic right now I'm sensing from
Wild fans just on social media, is they're concerned about

(03:56):
the lack or even I even saw it in the
starts immunit. They just concerned about the lack of five
on five goals. I think we need it's four games
like weird stuff like this happens in small, little samples.
I wouldn't expect them to be a grete five on
five team just because they don't have a lot of
scoring depth after caprice offf and Boldly to begin with,
and then the injuries you mentioned, But to act like

(04:18):
they are going to struggle to this rate all season long,
just as it would be as preposterous to expect the
Wild power play to click at forty seven percent all year, right,
Like that's not going to happen. They're also not going
to be as bad five on five as they've been
all season long. And I wouldn't even say they've been
bad five on five. They just haven't finished. They've created chances,
They are drawing penalties. They're drawing a ton of penalties,

(04:40):
which is why they're on the power play so much
and why they're scoring on the power play. Yeah, I
don't think they're going to be great five on five
just because they don't have the depth to do it.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
But we already knew that two weeks ago. Like nothing
has changed.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I've said from the get go that I think you
need Caprice offt and Boldly to stay healthy, need the
team to be in the mix to the point where
they can be buyers come tradeadline right, and previously we
haven't been able to buy at that time because we
had no money because of pre If you're expecting an
extended playoff run this year, to me, that's the that's
the blueprint to do it right and at least at

(05:14):
the very least, Caprice and BOLDI are playing the way
we need them to play and the power play has
been absolutely and a power play that good eventually is
going to change the way teams have to play a
five on five because they're not gonna be drawn and
they can't be as aggressive and committing as many penalties
if they know it's going to bite them every time.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I think you summed it up quite well. I wish
I had had my lunch already, but I'm a little behind.
I'll think I'll eat during the Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Try don't eat during rocktalk. Oh can talk plenty for you?

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Yeah, I have no question about that.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
U two.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
It's now time to take an in depth look at
the welfare of the Wolves.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Jim Suehn had a column in the Stars of Union
Today titled could Timberwolves trade for Giannis? And to Takumpo,
don't put anything past Tim connolly common. Would you like
to see the Wolves trade for Giannis?

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (06:19):
You know, I don't know where.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, he's top five, top ten player in the NBA, right,
So I don't know how you wouldn't if you can
add talent like that. I just don't, you know, because
I don't have a really good handle on the salary
cap and you know, luxury tax and second level or
second apron or whatever they call it.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
I don't even know how it's possible.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
But.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, it would be. I don't know how you could
argue with that anytime. You know, so a number of teams.
Look at there have been a number of teams that
have won NBA championships and they usually have gone out
in a required a third kind of a.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
Player, a third wheel.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
You know, when you look at the Wolves, you've got
Anthony Edwards and after that, I don't know, do you
have another guy that you go I mean, Julius Frandels
is a really good player, and Rude Gobert is a
really good player. And we have some really good players.
But you don't have Yeah, but you don't have like
a Jordan right exactly, Kobe to your chef, and not

(07:25):
just that, but a third one too, Like you know,
when Durantla went to Golden State, well you had all
sorts of players and and so sometimes you need more
than just two players. But yeah, if they could get
Aunte to coompo, I'd love it.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Did he did he go in depth? Did you read it?
How does he?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I did read? Then? And does he I mean, you
know the clickbait work. I clicked on it.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
I don't know how much Johannis even wants to be gone,
well he is. I don't know if we have enough
to be able to get like I would assume there's
somebody else out there that's going to be to give him. Well,
we don't have half our draft picks for the next five, six,
seven years.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Well, I thought Ante decompo is basically and I've been
just you know, I'm not paying a social attention to
the nbas at once. Did I think he's hinted that
he would leave, He wouldn't mind going somewhere else. But
then he's he came out a day or two ago
and said something to said, Oh no, I just don't
want to win here and can win hear So. I
think he's like a lot of those guys sometimes they
think I've been here long enough, It's it's time to

(08:27):
find I just want a different situation of greener pastors.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
I don't know, Yeah, I'd love you.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
And that's it for today's edition of five questions, well
actually three questions, but five sounds like more than four
and has got a keyword. And then the head coach
at about one twenty live in winter Park.

Speaker 1 (08:44):

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Ye?

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Well then you know what we got some time to kill.
Halloween is right around the corner to a lot of people.
A lot of people like.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Halloween costume parties and are always looking for something fresh, new,
fun and exciting.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
So I have some ideas here for you, including.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Dress up like Kevin O'Connell and go trick or treating
on November first.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
You get it, he's always late.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Got it.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I'm going to have three people walk about twenty feet
ahead of me and go as Deuce in the spread
swing standings. I'm going to wear a Gophers hoodie, go
to the airport, get a great parking spot, have a
Crown Royal, then fly to Omaha, trick or treat there
and go as Justin Guard and why would fly the

(10:53):
friendly sky. So there are some Halloween costume.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Ideas for you. We accept them.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Comment at kf an dot com. Comment at kfe and
dot com. Then when I get home in the evenings,
I'll peruse them.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
We won't have any You go, okay, guys, I'm gonna
stop it.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
The There will be no Highlman costumes the next couple
of days unless Tennabe you want to pick up on
the on the bit Tennebe will be in tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
I'm taking a couple of days time for you. A
baby brother, Peter is has fall break.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
He's flying back into town tonight and he and I
and his buddy Jay and a couple of other people.
Throughout the next couple of days, we're gonna do some knockdown,
punch cut fade ross. I don't get to play enough
golf ten to me, so I'm gonna do a couple
of thirty six hole days because I just don't play
offer enough.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
We're going to play thirty six tomorrow and then thirty
six on Friday.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
So at Tennebe will be in the ten of Fitzgerald
and you have Pete burst schedule for Friday. You're going
to do hip hop trivia. No, you're doing hockey trivia
at your appearance at what's the name of the place thing?
Whole sports bar?

Speaker 5 (11:55):
That's right, five hole sports Bar. What else do you
have going? Well? Little b will be in this. Is
that correct or not?

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I haven't completely confirmed with her, but yes, I haven't VA.
I don't even if we're going to do password for
because basically, like Blake Moore is the only one I
mean I could get. I guess if I can get
three guests, like it becomes a challenge.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
I get that.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
So maybe I don't know if I don't know if
devn's ready to be hosting password yet.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Yeah, well there's that, so I'm sure you have other
a few other tricks.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Up your sleep.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Not yet, but well we'll figure it out.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I I get so many people are actually, I think,
getting angry with me, and maybe you buy affiliation, you know,
guilty by association of thinking it's not that bad of
an idea to start Carson Onz and I guess maybe
I'm not also explaining myself very well. It's not what
we think, it's what the coach and the coaching staff thinks.

(12:57):
And I do believe they believe Eve that JJ McCarthy
is the future franchise quarterback here. But do you think
the coaching staff Sawve with the rest of us saw
in those first two games, and they're a team that's
built to win.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Now they're three and two.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I don't know why it's so hard for people to
And maybe the coach will surprise us and make an
announcement in his news conference coming up that JJ McCarthy
will start this coming Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
And if he does, then I'll say.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Well, maybe they maybe they think they can that they
can coach him up and they or they want to
do what the rest of the fans think.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
That what I'm hearing from people is I don't mind
giving up on this season. We need to see what
we've got.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
So if you just want to watch a quarterback develop
for the next year, that's fine. I'd rather win some
football games, and I think the team would rather win two.
I think they would, and I think they'll go with
whoever they think gives them to win.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Starting Carson Wentz against the Eagles does not necessarily prevent
you from seeing what JJ mc carthy's got this year.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Correct, like we.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Are, we are not committing to Carson Wentz for the
entire season. We are committing to Carson Wentz for Sunday.
We see how it goes. If Carson keeps playing well
and the team keeps winning well, then at that point
you're you are showing that you are team that can
that can go to the playoffs and potentially win the
big right if he if he's doing well, the team's winning,
that would counteract the argument to not playing.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
I've never wanted the Vikings to win a big game
more than I do this year with Carson Wentz at quarterback,
I would just love to see us so all these
people that have given up on the season and want
to see it.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
It's funny how as a fan you're willing to give
up and to see.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
These other it's their livelihoods, the coaches, the players, the
guy is bandwagon is what it is. And so I
don't know, we'll we'll, we'll see how that goes. I
don't know how long O'Connor will go on. I don't
even know when he's going to start. But there was
another topic.

Speaker 5 (14:57):
The other day.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
He was actually early. I couldn't believe.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
Yeah, yeah, I didn't.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
This is more like the kosm used to.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
This is the chaos we've come to know and lowthed.
I mean, no one love. Uh. I was gonna say,
oh yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Last night and I got home it was about a
half past ten. No according for another song, I watched. Yeah,
I'm not gonna suggest I watched it start to end.
But the Yo Yocean Nobu that I say his first name, Yamamoto.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
For the Dodgers, we.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Just fill him the Greek kid.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
We can call him the Greek kid. He he uh.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
He threw a three hitter, complete game, bleak game.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
So in other words, if you pitch and play defense,
you give yourself a chance to win.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
And I get it. The Dodgers, they got a lot
of money and a lot.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Of that money comes from their television contract in the
Greater California area. And I get that, but you know
I don't. That's an old, tired argument. That's a poll
that pocket protector argument. Well, we're just this poor little
mid market team and we don't have any money. We
already we both we all know how wealthy all Major
League Baseball owners are.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
And I've said it before.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
It's going to be A million dollars is like twelve seconds.
A billion dollars is like thirty two years. People have
no idea. I guess they just don't understand the difference
between a million and a billion. But the Dodgers decided
to put their bullpen apparently isn't very good. So what
they decided to do is just put all their money
into starting pitching.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
Pitching.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
They have a snell Otani and this Samamota character. And
when when the Brewers had beaten the Dodgers six times
this year, they were six to zero against them. But
they're just no match when these pitchers are are spot on.
Apparently Yama mode I didn't see. I caught the game
later and watched a couple of innings. I think he

(17:06):
gave the first player he face that.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
I see that, right?

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Did he give up a home run in the first
player and then after that he able to give up
two more hits the entire game.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
The game before, Blake Snow went eight innings.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Giving up just one hit, even though the Brewers threatened
in the ninth against the shaky Dodger bullpen.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
But that's where you need to.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Invest your money. Yeah, I mean, you need to invest
in starting pitching. And I understand the fear, the loathing,
of the trepidation of Major League Baseball owners and general
managers spending a lot of money on starting pitching because.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
It's a lot of money to pay guy who's only
working once every.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Five days, right, you know, let's see, it's not like
he's an everyday player.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
And then, I mean.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Is there a pitcher pitching in Major League Baseball right
now that's not had Tommy John surgery.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
I don't know if they exist, but there's always the
injury problem.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
So teams kind of shy away from that hope they
can just get a guy that can go four innings
once in a while, maybe five, and go to your
bullpen and try to outscore.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
The other club.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
I'd rather just sign the best pictures in baseball and
cross my fingers and take my chances. We'll break come
back hopefully that the coach will be ready.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
When we return. It's the common Man program right Sure,
on the.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Fan baby's crying, that's normal, But if you're feeling overwhelmed,

(18:46):

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Com location the new Winner Park a k A t
c O Performance Center. The speaker, the head coach of
the soon to be Big Game World champion Minnesota Ike.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
It's Kevin O'Connell's weekly news conference.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Christ to be back to more a full work clerk
in the games.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
Yeah, I think you know last week with the high
snap count coming out of the Pittsburgh game really two
weeks ago. Now you know that was more of a
just through the dialogue with Christian of that one individual game.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
But yes, I feel like he'll be in a good spot.

Speaker 8 (19:36):
Ready things stand, is it as far as you're starting
TV for something count?

Speaker 7 (19:39):
They stand in the same place they did Monday when
I answered that question, how you handling the brackets in
terms of reps, and between Carson and j yeah, they're
both both can to get work, both can you get
reps and very much looking forward to our whole team
getting back out there.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
I think Kevin as Blake brand Eliver no longer look
at the center or you want to say more as
a reserve in garden.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
No.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
I think I think our goal is always, you know,
especially navigating kind of the I think we're up to
fourteen combinations of guys. We're just trying to, you know,
as we navigate it, try to find the best five
to have out there. And Blake certainly played as you know,
as we kind of expected he would, and any of
the unknowns of just the experience of running the show

(20:31):
and kind of being in charge out there as a
center were quickly answered in a really positive way. So
I thought he was big, strong, handled the communication really
well against a really good defense, and he's gonna, you know,
get the.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Opportunity to get work. This week.

Speaker 7 (20:46):
Jergs is back as well, and we'll go with the
best five we can.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
Well most of you want to see from JJ this week.

Speaker 7 (20:54):
I think the big thing is just getting him back
on the grass in uniform, practicing, getting real live reps
of a pass rush and you know, taking drops and
applying some of the things that he's worked really hard
on as of late as he's kind of gotten too
that phase of his rehab applying it and then when
he does that, you know, instant dialogue about what he's

(21:18):
able to do and what it felt like, and hey,
let's log that away and then if he doesn't the
same thing, it's you know, it's gonna be I'm having
a blast kind of coaching him and started kind of
last week when he was able to really start ramping
up a little bit as he as he gets there
and you know that that one on one work and
then obviously the work he does with Josh and Jordan,

(21:39):
it's going to be critical.

Speaker 8 (21:40):
So on the mechanics thing, Q because he you know,
has been here for a year plus now, worked in
training camp and stuff. When the mechanics starts to break down,
is that more of an in game thing because you
know you've worked on those things before. Yeah, just like
just does the footwork sort of go astray during games
or what what happened where you had to sort of

(22:01):
go back to some of the fundamental mechanics that you've
seen done well in trading count.

Speaker 7 (22:05):
Yeah, I think, you know, live football and real, real
reps of you know, some of the things he did.
It wasn't just real football, because he did some things
in the Chicago game to help us win that game,
demonstrating a lot of a lot of real positives, you know,
on the road in a pretty pretty significant environment, crowd
noise first time out, a lot of a lot of

(22:28):
really positive things, and then it kind of circles back
to it was our you know, he's been here the timeline,
you said, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's been on
the grass practicing, doing the things that help you build
a layer of consistency where you can not only take
it to the game with you, but then the ebbs
and flows of the position, whether it's you know, you know,

(22:52):
the pocket breaking down, or maybe it's you know, once
the injury happened, being firm on that back foot, and
what the combination of a lot of those experiences can
do to your fundamentals are a very very normal thing
for a young player. I think you can see examples
of it around the whole league too, at a lot
of different different positions, not just the quarterback position. But

(23:13):
it's obviously the easiest one for folks to be able
to see kind of a plus or minus type of
world that they live in completion or not first down
or not touchdown or not. There's a little bit more
that goes into it, as each you know, rep kind
of tells its own story. So what you can do
as a quarterbacks hold the pen and at least control

(23:34):
the controllables of doing your job. And I think that's
where the time on task is. It's you know, easy
to say, like, why wasn't it like that every time
he played? That was really a significant injury that he
was playing through in that game, and that coupled with
how the game had gone and the fact that he

(23:54):
you know, had about an hour and twenty minute practice
on that Friday after leaving the hospital on Thursday, sleep
there and showing up here. I mean, there was a
lot of variables to that one performance that I know.
Because he hasn't been out there, we're you know, taking
a lot of looks at probably continuously, and I understand that.
But there's a bigger picture to playing quarterback and how

(24:16):
I view the position, and yeah, is it more important
for crossing Wentz to start against the Eagles or the Vikings.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
For him to start against the Eagles or the Vikings,
he was more important for him personally. Yeah, we haven't. Yeah,
I see what you're saying.

Speaker 7 (24:36):
We haven't really, we haven't really talked about that at all.
I think there's you know, been I don't know if
he's even played them since he since he left Philly,
but he's played for a few teams since.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
But you know, I.

Speaker 7 (24:50):
Think he's just excited about getting back on the practice
field and having a chance to play this week. And
you know he's working through his own, his own kind
of plan for the week as well as we lead
into it. What about the Angio defense or this Eagles
defense kind.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Of requires the most time during the week in your
game planning.

Speaker 7 (25:09):
And Yeah, he's really really good football coach, has been
for a long time. You know, They've got some really
talented guys on their front, really good linebackers, and I
really like their young secondary. You know, they've got a
really good mixture of instincts and ball skills and then
just flat out you know, good football players. So he's

(25:30):
got the tools to do what he's always done in
the league, which is it's difficult to play against a
variety of fronts that they can get to with the
versatile pieces that they have, linebackers getting on the ball,
forming five down, six down structures that require you to
have a pretty good understanding of, you know, the plan

(25:50):
and the play, but then the adjustments that have to
take place amongst the players out there to find success
because really a lot of the defense, whether it's pre
snap and some of the things that they do standing
and moving around, it's similar to our defense in a
lot of ways, but then post snap, similar to our defense,
they're changing the picture. You think it's this coverage, and
you know, it ends up being a totally different, you know,

(26:13):
kind of structure of the defense. And that's what he's
made you know, so many, so many teams and defenses
so successful with and they're doing the same types of things,
and we've got to have a good plan for it,
and we've got to execute. We got to have really
good execution on the early downs to give us a
chance to have some manageable kind of situations throughout the drive.

(26:33):
See if we can get momentum, and we've done well
when we've gotten in the red zone, we've done well
in the two minute setting. We've got to be better
on third down and kind of eliminate the things we've
talked about from a penalty or negative play standpoint to
be able to stack positives together. Ken shoulder being the
left shoulder, Like, are you confident from a physical standpoint
that they'll be available to you if you need And yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
I mean we'll work. We'll work through the week.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
But you know, he he got some good work in Monday,
at least feeling feeling positive from a from a health
standpoint to go through and throw as if you know
here he you know, took a normal amount of throws.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
There wasn't any throws he didn't take because of it.

Speaker 7 (27:15):
But there's a layer of working through it, even though
it's his non throwing shoulder for sure.

Speaker 6 (27:21):
J kind of trusting the mechanics or driving off the
back foot. Is there a process when he's coming off
that injury to kind of learn I'm solid on his
foot again and how do you go through that with.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Him to his trust?

Speaker 7 (27:31):
Yeah, even last week some of the dialogue of hey,
you know, I felt it here, this type of movement
made me feel because this is you know, a unique
real injury where you know, sometimes the hardest part is
that trust level of getting that final stage of game
like movements and and feelings. So what we were able
to do is kind of break it down to really

(27:55):
start in the foundation of the base that we're looking
for and then kind of work backwards from the drop
mechanics and things like that. But once you know, he
had some real positive work, you know, feeling that body
position and then the way he threw it. You know,
once he was able to kind of work outward from
there was really positive.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
They do Squan and why his numbers have lived.

Speaker 7 (28:19):
Well, I think obviously, you know, he's one of the
best players in the league, and you've got to he's
the you know, he's the starting point of what you
have to try to limit from a standpoint of he
doesn't just run the football well and kind of control
the game. They've they've proven time and time again that
if they have success running the football, they can time

(28:40):
of possession, eat up clock, keep things manageable. Jalen can
make a bunch of plays on third down to extend
drives and give them more opportunities to run it.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
But it's also the explosive runs.

Speaker 7 (28:51):
I mean, the you know first and ten at your
own thirty and he's crossing the goal line if you're
not exactly where you need to be fitting the run.
Second level players showing up set and edges playing the
cut back. Uh, it's it's It's one of those teams
where they're really good at the things that they do,
and you've got to be really good at some fundamental,
simple things on the chalkboard. But you got to you

(29:13):
gotta do them, and you got to make sure that
you consistently do them every play because he can change
it in a heartbeat with one touch. Kevin is last
week with JJ the most fans on you've been with
that position since you coached it. Yeah, just with the
obligation of being the play caller but also the head

(29:33):
coach on normal practice days, you guys, see, I like
to get around all the positions, and this it did
feel like that in a lot of ways, just the
true one on one work and then being out there
with Josh and kind of being able to just kind
of give real time feedback after every throw, even before

(29:53):
throws of you know, hey, you know, see how you're
see how your foot's here, you know, and in site
some plays that we had watched together things where maybe
we were overextended or maybe we were you know kind
of you know, allowing kind of what was happening maybe
in front of him on certain plays to kind of
subconsciously have him extending some drops and reaching. And with

(30:16):
every reach there has to be an equal and opposite
commitment to come back to balance to be accurate.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
And he's an accurate passer.

Speaker 7 (30:25):
And when we what I have learned about him is
when he plays with that you know, ideal base balance
and body position, you're gonna see the ball come out
with a lot of revolutions and it's going to go
where he wants it to go. So yeah, but to
answer your question, it did feel like that, and you know,
definitely something I want to try to continue to do

(30:45):
while wearing a few hats.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
So thank you?

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Is that it all right? That's up all a quick?
I see again.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah, I was in a conversation off here with Ron Johnson.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
I know this that lad.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
We were talking quarterback controversy. It's on the tie. It's
on the minds of everybody. Yeah, apparently, and the.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
Head coach doesn't want to talk about it anymore.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
That's the that's usually short, Yeah, that was He was
very sure with his answer, and he you could tell
he's annoyed by it. He doesn't want to talk about
it anymore at all. He basically because say, I don't
know who it was. His second question said, so who's
going to start a quarterback? And he said it's the
same answer I gave you Monday. And that was it,
and then nobody. I guess he's not going to say

(31:38):
I was gonna say nobody. Nobody tried to, you know,
come at it from a different angle, but I guess
there's no need to because I don't think he wants
to say. I don't know if it's you know, it
could be for myriad reasons. There's there's always I was
just checking round about it. Does it really affect the
preparation of the other team if the Eagles are going on,

(32:00):
HUMH don't know if it's going to be Carson Wentz
or JJ McCarthy and if that, if that throws a
wrench into their plan or do they just say, well.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
If it's McCarthy, will blit them a lot more.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
If it's Winz, we've got to be a bit more
careful because he's a veteran you know what I'm saying.
I just don't know if it I don't know if
the other team knowing who's going to start at quarterback,
if they know ahead of time, if that's if that
will allow them to better prepare for who it is.
I would think the Philadelphi would be licking their chops

(32:30):
if it was JJ McCarthy. They've seen what he's done
the first two times, but he's been simply off. He
had one great quarter one the NFC offens, Otherwise he's
been up. My guess is Philadelphia, coming off of four
two losses in a row, would love nothing better to
see a kid who's only started two games in the
NFL his last outing was simply off. When he's coming
off an ankle injury, I'm sure they wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (32:52):
They would love to see him. Not to say that
they're afraid of Carson.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Wentz, le say, I don't think they're chattering their teeth
over either either one.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
But what I'm not saying teeth chatter.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
I'm just saying, if you're looking, if if you add
your choice, who would you rather play this week, McCarthy
or Wentz. If I'm on the other mine and go
I'd rather go with the rookie because we can rattle
him a lot easier than we ken of Carson Wentz.
But I and I don't know if the coach, I
don't know if he does know who he's going to start,
because we don't know. We All we know is they

(33:22):
hand picked McCarthy to be their franchise quarterback. They went
into this season, they said no to Darnold, no to Dimes,
no to Rogers. He was going to be They were
gonna they were going to play him at quarterback and
let him learn on the job like you've seen him
do with Caleb Williams, with Drake May and Jade and
Daniels and going back for years and years and years.

(33:45):
But after you saw the first two performances and you
did spend a lot of money on the interior both
Like you're coming off of fourteen and three season, a
lot of the fans that, well, I'm ready to write
this season off, We're not going anywhere.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
Well that's not what they're thinking.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
How the fans look at a game, or look at
a season or whatever the or a team is completely
different than people inside the organization. And I think when
they look at the standings that go. We're three and two,
we haven't played our best football yet. We've had all
sorts of people injured, got some more people coming back.
It's rich playing Philadelphia, the kids just coming back from it.
Let's run Wentz out there again and see what happens.

(34:24):
And if Wentz is awful in the first half, let's
say he's terrible that you can always put McCarthy in.
I know, I've gone back and forth and so I
and I don't know what they want. I know, I
think they would love to play McCarthy, but I think
they feel like that might not be the best.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
Idea at this given moment in time where.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
The team is at. That's what I think, but I
don't know. It could be they're not saying anything. McCarthy's
going to start on Sunday and we'll see how it goes.
Or it could be they do want to wait one
more week and just see what happens because teams want
to win. They you know, and I know the coach
believes he's a quarterback whisper. That's why they he decided
to go with McCarthy. But could they have expected McCarthy

(35:03):
to be as bad as he was for those two weeks.
I know we've talked about this too, and this doesn't
mean he can't be a good quarterback, but I think
there's been a lot of disagreement with people and when
when when people would like, you know, against Michigan, when
he played for Michigan, it wasn't a pass happy team.

Speaker 5 (35:17):
Now he had to make throws and he did this,
and he did that and that.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
You know, but he in the NFL it's much more
pass oriented than in his running game. And maybe he's
still acclimating himself to that part of the game more
because it seems like most of the time when he
threw at Michigan, it was the other team is expecting
to run because their running game was so powerful.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
So that helps. And when you're in the pros and
you you don't have.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
The throws are easier the college. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Think when you have Michigan receivers with the Michigan offensive
line against you know, Purdue in Minnesota, right exactly, players
are open more, you have more time to make the throw.
The defenses aren't as complicated, correct, So it's a there's
there's a level of adjustment, yes, And I get that's

(36:03):
people's argument for well, we got to see what we
got because you want to give him that time to
be able to learn how to play against those defenses.
I just don't think you need to do it in
October fifteenth. Yeah, maybe October twenty fourth or whatever. It really,
deep down, I should have admit this.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Working at the all sports station, especially the audio home
of the Minnesota I guess I real they don't care
which way they go.

Speaker 4 (36:24):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
I mean, I think you know people said we're not
going to win a big game this year. Well, yeah,
I mean, guess what. Thirty one teams will not win it.
So your odds are pretty good to say they're not
going to win. It's not like you're most likely going
to be right. Who what a bold and brash prediction.
I think all of us thought they were going all
the way, but as seasons. I mean, for instance, now
Kansas City's a much different pedigree, but people.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
Were writing that club off.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
I was thinking maybe they weren't as good as they were,
and then what you see they've done the past couple
of weeks, or what they did against Detroit and how
they held a team that was averaging thirty five points
a game to seventeen and they were able to stop
and in defensive leader Troy had no answers for for
Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Now everybody's I just saw a blurbum at ESPN.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
One of their football experts, the the te's on the
bottom of the screen was Chiefs will be the top
seed in the AFC Again. Okay, it's really not going
on on a limb from what I saw on this
past Was it Sunday night?

Speaker 5 (37:19):
Was it a Sunday game or money the game which.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
On Sunday Sunday.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
So things change in a hurry from week to week
in the league. Will take a break, We'll come back.
