Speaker 3 (00:50):
I mean it quite be lovely.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
You've got to be kidding me.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You guys are going to criticize whatever you want to criticize. Okay,
calm down.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
One of the more bizarre stories of.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Recently would be this is a dayline Indianapolis Headline Associated Press.
Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is now facing a felony
charge in Indianapolis altercation. Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is
now facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily
(01:57):
injury in addition to the misdemeanor charges stemming from a
weekending incident in Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Had led to his arrest.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Meers made the announcement about the
new charge, which carries a potential sentence of one to
six years in prison.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Meer says the investigation is ongoing.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Beer says one of the challenges you have in a
case like this is that you are dealing with individuals
who are receiving medical care. That's obviously the most important
thing that individuals are treated appropriately. Once we were provided
with additional information about the victim's current medical condition, it
became clear to us that additional charges needed to be file.
(02:40):
San Chez has been scheduled for a court hearing Tuesday
on the original charges, but that was rescheduled to November four.
San Chez remains hospitalized and was enlisted in stable condition
Monday morning. The Fox Sports analyst was pepper sprayed and
stabbed multiple times during a late night altercation in a
downtown Indianapolis alley over the weekkend, which resulted in criminal
(03:02):
charges against him. A police affidavit alleges that Sanchez, smelling
of alcohol a costed a sixty nine year old truck
driver who backed into a hotel's loading docks, leading to
a confrontation outside the vehicle that prompted the driver to
pull out a knife to defend himself. Sanchez was hospitalized
with stab wounds to his upper right torso. According to
(03:22):
the affidavit signed by a police detective, truck driver identified
as Pt.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Had a cut to his left cheek.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Mir said his office received that a minute probably cause
Affidavid money, which led to the additional charges because the
truck driver suffered serious injuries.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
They're still gathering information, Mehr said.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
The chief and his team continue to work on this matter,
continue to track down additional details for us, and really
supplement that probable cause affidavit. I cannot say enough good
things about the work that took place with the police department.
There's a ton of information to sift through and gather.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
And that's all we have have.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
And the question that I can't seem to get answered
though I've never asked of anybody, what led to the
confront What was Mark Sanchez doing near the loading docks
in an alley at midnight one o'clock in the morning,
and what led to the confrontation with truck driver guy?
And according to the investigation, they seem to believe that
(04:23):
Sanchez is the guy that was a fault, that the
truck driver was defending himself. I mean, I can't even
begin to venture a guess, and that's why I guess
we don't. You know, you want to speculate, but I'm
dumbfounded by the whole thing. What is he doing in
an alley behind in a loading dock. Well, if there's
(04:46):
alcohol involved, well yeah, well yeah, I drank a lot
of manter. Fact, if there was a drinking Hall of Fame,
I'd be first ballot, unanimous.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Now, I don't know if I've ever told you this,
but I quit drinking.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
But yes, I quit drinking back the last time I
was drunk was well, I was drunk every time I drank, drink,
drank drunk May nineteen, nineteen ninety and I put the
cork in the bottle. Set enough is enough for me.
I'm not having fun anymore.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
I don't enjoy it.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
It's a waste of time, and I'm it's getting out
of hand. But I never found myself in a back alley.
I mean I got myself into some trouble. Anything that
happens after midnight and dranks and is involved, generally good
things aren't going to happen. But he was supposed to
(05:33):
call Which game was he supposed to do Yesterday's when
the Colts game? If he was in Indianapolis, I would assume, right,
So he was supposed to be. He was supposed to
be on the call of the Colts game, and obviously
he didn't make it. So where that goes from here,
we'll keep you posted, Tennae.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
It's one of those stories where I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I'm assuming if there was, if it was self defense,
they probably can't just take the guy's word for us.
So that had it been witnesses or cameras somewhere.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Well, you're thinking a loading dock, there's probably some sort
of camera. So this one says, come on, we all
know the answer.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Drinking. Well yeah, but yeah he was drinking. He was,
But why was he in the back alley?
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Now?
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Someone said, from what I read, he was drunk and
said the driver can't park. Their assaulted him out of
the truck, which the driver pepper sprayed and used a
knife to defend himself. Now, I don't know if that's
the way it went down. I don't know why Sanchez
would care. I still don't understand what he was doing.
You got a game to call the next day. This
(06:43):
was this Saturday night. I think he's called me. Yeah,
he's he's drunk and he's in a loading dock.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
I don't understand how he end up there, but that
I guess that's for.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I guess that's for Well, if you end up drunk,
I think you can end up in lots of places.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Yeah yeah, I guess why the loading dock behind it?
Unless he was so drunk he.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
A bar nearby, I don't know. They started wandering around.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
I know. But why if you're drunk and you're at
a bar somewhere you call it uber to take you
back to your hotel because you got work to do it.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
I agree, that's what logical people would do.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yes, I'll be curious to see if we everet.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Come uh, because that that well, this was that it
was Friday night early Saturday, so it was Friday and Saturday,
not Saturday Sunday.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I don't know, but that's the stories I see it.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Have you.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Watched any Major League Baseball playoffs at all? No, I've
not taken a deep dive into it. But I was
footballed out yesterday and I was one of those guys.
I thought the Bills would probably beat the Patriots pretty handily.
And I got to admit teenemy at least for yesterday.
I wasn't waiting all day for Sunday night. I was
(08:25):
so I noticed when the crew Terry, Jimmy, Johnny Gronky
Terry all the rest were signing off. They said, hey,
you can catch Tiger Seattle.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
On FS one. So I said, you know what, Little baseball,
why not?
Speaker 4 (08:47):
So I turn over the school guy's pitching for Detroit.
This guy can flat out spin it. In Game one
against Cleveland on the to three in the wild Card round,
I think he said a Tigers franchise record by striking
out fourteen Cleveland Guardians. He was simply brilliant. He won
(09:10):
the Cy Young Award last year. I think he might
win it again this year. Last year, I think he
also had the equivalent to the hitters triple Crown. I
think he had the most wins, best ERA, and best traycounts.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
I think that's the triple crown for pitching. He's on
the hill.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Yesterday he surrenders to and they had a Mariner's winning
extra innings. They had they had a two nothing lead
I think was either TAPA eight or TAPA nine, and
the Tigers scored two runs to tie it. And then
I fell asleep, And when I awoke this morning, I
checked the score and Seattle won in extra innings. That
best of five is tied at a game a piece.
(09:51):
But Seattle had built the two nothing lead, and guess
how they did it.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Polanco two home runs, two solo home runs against Schooba.
But we didn't need him.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
We thought we should trade Polanco, not one, but two
home runs off the best pitcher in baseball, and that's
that's what gave them the too nothing lead. Of course,
they lost it in the eighth. Tigers had two runners
on I think might have even been second. Was see
the first and second or second and third. It's somebody
(10:25):
caught an inside pitch and ripped it down the right field,
just got in the right.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Field line and got it. You know where they have
the the padding by.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
The fence, but there's always about a foot between the
dirt on the warning track and the padding.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
The ball got stuck down there and the Tigers tie
the game.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
But we didn't need Jorge polonk apl We just didn't
need him.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
He was brilliant, too expensive for us.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
It was too expensive for us, and we traded him
for We didn't get Lopez out of the deal.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
But now I can't.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Who that was Lopez. One was that that was a
rise Planca. We gave away for like very little.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
If I recall that's right, yeah, Rise, yeah, plunk or
we didn't need him either, so we didn't need a
rise either.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
So now I can't say where I heard this, but.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
My my sources tell.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Me that I think the twins will be trading.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
You know, as you and you've suspected this all along,
that it is going to be you think that was
a fire sale. Yeah, my guess is neither Lopez or
Joe Ryde will be back with the cast.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Shut her down if that happened.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Say, my sources know what they're doing. Kenneby's got a
keyword force. Uh, try to put a.
Speaker 1 (11:41):

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Please do do so now without hesitation. I forgot to
do the giveaway. I was gonna do it going into break.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
We got time.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Let's go ahead and give it away right now.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Then okay, oh no, wait.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
I thought this was the last bottom of the art break.
We'll do it going into the last break. I thought
this was the bottom of the hour of time flies
when you're having fun. I see we've been spending maybe
an inordinate amount of time and talking about quarterback whisperer
as we move into the bye week and then get
ready to play the Philadelphia Eagles. Is is that there
or here? I don't recall For some reason, I think
(13:14):
it's're coming our house.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
If if JJ McCarthy is deemed healthy, ready and raring
to go, should he be starting against Philadelphia? Or should
you say, hey, Wentz has been pretty good, and yeah,
I've been brilliant, but he's helped us win, especially yesterday,
and that that game winning drive, he was exceptional.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
He was nine for nine eighty yards in a had
to have it moment. It wasn't like there was still
plenty of time luck in the game.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Was this was going to be their last possession of
the ball thanks to Kevin Stefanski a little bit. I mean,
you know, he they ran the ball the first two
times and then they decided to throw, and as you
pointed out, you might want to run again there just
to wind down the clock. Force the biking. He was
their final time out, but I think he was because
it's a rookie quarterback and all the other intangibles. You
could have made the argument he probably should because they
(14:08):
only ran off like thirteen, fourteen, eighteen, twenty seconds off
the clock and gave the ball back to Minnesota. But
if the kid does complete a pass, it's game, set, match.
But Bike, he's got the ball. And then they went
down the field and Addison finally contributed. I remember he
missed the first quarter coach's decision, he missed a walk through.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
We heard.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
I'm still wondering why Sanchez was in a loading dock
between Friday and Saturday morning.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Do we know where Addison was?
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Do we have any indication it has that's not been
reported that I've seen seventeen I'm sure maybe he'll We're
gonna hear from Koc in about ten minutes. Maybe, so
maybe he'll be addressed then exactly. I'm guessing he won't
acknowledge where he was.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Or But in some of the comedy, you know, we've
been talking a lot about who should be quarterback.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
This one says, based on his.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
History, Wentz is not the type to sit quietly if
he gets benched. He'll be vocal with teammates and probably
undermine Jagent every turn, every turn. Tough spot for the
quarterback whisperer. And you know, maybe historically that might be true.
But there was a quote yesterday Wentz.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Was asked if he thought he should remain the starter.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Here's the quote, tend Toby, I've done plenty of looking
ahead in my life that I'm done doing that.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
I'm very much trying to live in the moment.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
And appreciate the moment right now now, that's what he
said immediately following the game. I suppose that could change.
Let's say this week goes by. My guess is most
of the players get this week off now, right, they
get sent wherever they want to go. So they're all
going in separate directions, going wherever they want to go,
(15:55):
and then they'll be they could be doing that, and
then they'll be brought back uh following week to get
ready for the Philadelphia game. And maybe it'll be at
that time where we'll find out that first team reps
have been going to JJ McCarthy. Maybe at that point
Wentz will sort of change his mind and think to himself,
wait a minute, I've been pretty good.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Why am I? What are we doing here?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
But it sounds like, especially after all the stops he
think about, tend to be how he started his career.
He was the number two pick overall right, and was
in his second year where he he had Philadelphia on
a roll. He gets hurt, they end up going to
the big game and winning the big game with the
Foles get at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
But Wentz has.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Got to feel real good about the rajectory of his career,
and ever since then, it's been a struggle.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Right.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
He set an.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
NFL record, not one that you really want to set.
He has started for six different teams in six consecutive years.
He was sitting at home, not on a roster. We
decided Sam Howell wasn't the guy. So my guess as
he does just take yeah, yeah, I'm sure he's taking
it a day at tennis, going you know what, I
(17:10):
didn't even think I'd be playing this year, and here
I am and winning games. That's been fun and we'll
see what happens.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Well, Brake, we'll come back.
Speaker 4 (17:16):

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Awaiting the arrival of the head coach of the soon
to be Big Game World champion Minnesota Vikings, Kevin O'Connell,
the Rainy coach of the year. He'll talk everything purple
with the with the the five hundred trip across the
pond and ten to me. As I've said before, if
I've asked you if you were going to shoot, if
you were going to have an experience, I was not
(18:50):
unlike that of a PGA tour player. Would you if
you were going to shoot a ninety, would you rather
go fifty forty or forty fifty? Yeah, because you feel
like hey finish strong, trending in the right direction, figuring
things out. I'd rather if I have to go five
hundred across the pond, I'd rather lose the first one
and win this s come back with a nice, nice
(19:12):
taste in your mouth. It's a nice victory yesterday it
you know again, it wasn't a perfect game. Any stretching
the imagination, and I think sometimes too much fans and
media we're looking for this perfect game. We start nitpicking, And.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
I don't even necessarily call it nitpicking other than you're
just pointing out what has happened.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
But I've gotten better at just enjoying each game for
what that was an entertaining game.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
I mean there was that.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
It was frustrating air Vikings fan, There was some there
were some things that you're just left rolling your eyes,
shrugging your shoulders and shaking your head at. But as
the coach likes to say, and I bet he'll say
during this news coms that's about to begin shortly, I
think he'll say, we were at our best when our
best was required, because that's what they did. They made
a stop of Cleveland when they need to stop them.
(20:01):
They they they after giving up huge chunks of yardage
on the ground, they were able to uh come up
with two no gains or I think it was like
one was a yard or two and then they had
a no gain and then Steffanski decided to throw the
ball in complete. Bikings got the ball back and then
wentz and the offense went down the field and he
completed I don't remember how many plays the drive was,
(20:22):
but his eighty yards he went nine and nine, so
he was really good. Addison finally contributed. Uh JJ was
his normal. He was brilliant again yesterday. And you know,
I all you know me, I go back and forth
on on on jets. You know, is he the best
(20:42):
receiver in footballer? Is he just among the top two, three, four, five?
Speaker 5 (20:45):
You know?
Speaker 4 (20:45):
And again after yesterday, it's just it's hard not to
put him as the best wide receist.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
He made He made a number of remarkable.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Catches yesterday in traffic. It's he was he was. Without him,
they don't win the game.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
It's obvious.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
And I'm gonna say that about a lot of players,
but that was he was really good yesterday. So they
get the win, and right now all is right with
the world. Kitties at four and one. Again, they did
not play very well against the Bungles. They had a
twenty eight three lead. Bungles made it a little closer
than it appeared. What Packers had a bye did? The
Bears are off?
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Bears are off?
Speaker 1 (21:21):
So right now.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
As the standings are Kitties four and one, Purple three
and two, Packer is two to one and one.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Correct and Bears are two and two two two.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
So yeah, so.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
It's it's interesting I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Just who does Detroit of the bye this week? I
don't I know.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
I don't think they have a buye. I think they play,
but I don't recall who they play. But worth keeping
an eye on.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
And Lions are playing Sunday night football at Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Are you still still tough.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Stretch here for the Lions?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
I didn't realize this because they've got Tampa Bay the
following week at home and they've always seemed to struggled
them a little bit.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
They have.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Then you get the Vikings at home at Washington at Philadelphia.
That's a tough five Game's got.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
A tough five game stretch, there's no doubt, I mean.
And that's the thing when you have these schedules where
everybody in your division you play kind of the same opponents, Right, Vikings, Packers, Bears.
They all got to play these guys, you know you
have to play them.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
So now the Packers, on the other hand, this looks
like a stretch they could make them. Hey, Okay, they
host the Bengals next week. That's a W at Arizona
and they might be a mess after yesterday. Could be
a W should be a w at Pittsburgh is a
reunited against Aaron Rodgers and then Carolina at home.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Now the Pack could be back for the stretch game.
And I said this at the beginning of the season
when we were kind of handicapping the divisions, and I
think I think we both agreed it looked like on
paper the NFC North, if they weren't the best division
in football, they were amongst the one or two.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Best, right, And I said, I like that.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
I like when the teams are all good, so it's more,
you know, it's it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Eh A.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Yeah, in a perfect world, you'd want your team to
be the seventeen and oh club if there's going to
be a seventeen or O club.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
But I will say this, I like that the division's.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Tight like this, and the objects in the mirror closer
than they appear, and we'll see how things pan out.
The Ravens, though, they're looking like they've just basically given up.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Now they had the they had the the loss to
Buffalo that went back and forth, back and forth, back
and forth, and they lost and who did they lose?
Then they know, is it the kiddies? They lost to
First then they lost to Buffalo or vice versa.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I don't remember the owner they lost. I thought Buffalo's
first was that they lost.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Two games that.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
They had just as good a chance to win, and
they lose those games, and now.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
It's smoked yesterday just at home against the mediocre team.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yeah, it's just it's it's it's it's alarming. And how
much longer is because Lamar's out.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Right, Yeah, I don't think they've really given us a
long term diagnosis. They've Yeah, they kept every single day
last week, they were making it seem like it was
breaking news. If he didn't practice, I would assume it's
not a super low. But it's hamstring, I think, right,
you never know what the hammies. And then especially for
a guy like and that runs.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
As we mentioned, both the Bills and Eagles lost, Were
those the only two? Is there there are no more
undefeated teams?
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Right?
Speaker 2 (24:24):
I think that's it.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Those are the last two.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
Of the the undefeated teams and they both have a loss.
So it should be fun curious to see what the
what the coach said. It didn't seem like they were anymore.
Did anybody leave with an injury?
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Started for the Purple. It seemed like we stayed pretty
healthy during the game, did we not.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Just the darsaw ones a little concerning that he has
himself still on a pitch count. And well, then the
most important drive of the game when we're already without
three offensive linemen and now you got to go without him.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
And then there was the Carson Wentz. Yeah, Carson Wentz were.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
He you know, that's the danger of it, and you
know what, I admire him for trying to get that.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, that was a critical moment of the game.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
He's trying to get the first down, right, and that's
when you're at your most of them because he just
got plastered on that and he got hit by it
seemed like two guys, and then he had to he
he left the game just before halftime after taking the hit,
went to the tent, then went inside, and you weren't
Brosemur did he take one snap Neil in the first half,
(25:23):
So then you're.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Wondering if Brosem're gonna have to play in the second.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Which well, and we had no emergency quarterback after him,
So I mean Cam Akers would have been the next
guy out.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Cam's got talent, He's won for one in the season,
so uh yeah, So wentz to be able to come
back and uh and play. We'll see what I would
think if he finished the game. I mean, he'll be
fine in two weeks.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
This is non throwing shoulder. He'll be fine, So.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
I think he should.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
I don't think there's gonna be any issues there. Where's
the head coach.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
I know it's gonna surprise you, but he's he's late.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Saw the Wolves be Denver?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Didn't you?
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Did I not thereason performance? Did I not Ant's name.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
In the box score? I don't think he played.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Do we know why?
Speaker 2 (26:16):
I would assume we just go on a risk injury
to our best player.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Well, Joker played for Denver. I don't see any other
teams doing that. Here's chaos.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Everybody you know obviously made it back late last night.
Just want to once again complement our staff and and
the folks that put together that trip, both with the league,
but but most importantly people in house here that allowed
us to uh, you know, have a smooth trip and
able to win a game yesterday and go into the
(26:49):
bye week off of a victory.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
A lot of things to really, you know, touch on
from the game, but.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
I have to start out and just compliment our offensive
line group we had out there to start the game,
and then obviously you know, had some guys you know, some.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Moving parts there throughout.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
But I thought Blake Brendell, for his first time playing
center the tape really you know, personified everything we think
of Blake and have from a versatility standpoint. But for
him to step in and run the show the way
he did communicate and played with physicality and technique was.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
A real positive for Blake.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
I thought, Joe Huber, you know, really getting his first
significant snaps against a really really good opponent and some
good interior players to go along with the edge guys
that they had.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
He played well.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
And Justin School's versatility to start out the game on
the right side and then finish on the left gave
us some critical snaps. We tried to have a very
calculated and detailed plan of a variety of different ways
of how we're gonna you know, kind of handle one
of the best defenses in football and try to you know,
limit some of the the damage that they routinely caused
(28:01):
against most teams that they played. But it required our
players taking that plan and making it come to life.
And I thought Justin had some critical snaps where either
you know, certain players were moving around and trying to
avoid some of the things we were you know, deploying
and had someone on one reps that allowed us to
make some big, big time plays in the game. That
(28:22):
Walter Rouse stepping in as well, was was good to
see him ready to kind of meet that meet that moment.
You know, Ryan Wright with his tied his career along
with the seventy seven yard or in a huge moment
to kind of flip the field was critical, you know,
justin Jefferson was outstanding as we as we talked about
last night, I thought Carson being very gritty, kind of
(28:45):
battling through his left shoulder and kind of having a
really productive night. And that last drive was efficient, It
was calculated and really just total trust and commitment from
the group to to do what was required there to
win the football game. So a lot of other performances
wrapped up when you when you find a way to
(29:08):
win a game like that under the circumstances we're in.
So thought our coaching staff you know, handled the week
very well from a standpoint of preparing, and it wasn't
exactly the normal week we prepared that we hoped it
would be, but our entire group handled it in a
really mature way, professional way, and and.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
We're able to get the get the win.
Speaker 7 (29:30):
Just to give you guys an update on Carson, we
did get back pretty late early, you know, really actually
early this morning, so he's still getting further evaluation, but
he's pretty sore in that left shoulder, so that will
be something that will be taking a look at throughout
the throughout this week. On a kind of a different,
(29:51):
different note, we do expect you know, hopefully four players
to return to practice in different capacities next week, but
ja J McCarthy, Donovan Jackson, Blake Cashman, we'll have his
twenty one day window opened and then and Michael Jurgens
should be able to you know, come.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Back to the practice field as well.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
So getting some positives here at the BAI comes at
a big time moment for us where we've obviously had
some adversity from an injury standpoint, and we'll continue to
work through that. But I like the way guys have
stepped up and the way our team has battled throughout
this first five weeks, and we go into the buy
at a critical time where there's still a lot of
(30:33):
things we can improve on, but most importantly.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Getting healthy will be a critical.
Speaker 8 (30:37):
Thing game winning drive since taking over. Is there something
in terms of your philosophy when you have those opportunities
of play calling or how you manage the quarterback in
those situations that you feel like has really worked for you.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
Yeah, you know, Matt, I think it's a it's a
it's a circumstance of a few things, right, Like a
lot of times in the game, things are expressing themselves
throughout your kind of answering some of the maybe not
necessarily unknown questions, but either unscouted looks or unique ways
justin's being defended, or pressure plan, whatever it might be,
(31:14):
and then being able to kind of take all that
information and put it together in a way where all
I want the quarterback to do in that moment and
really all eleven guys is just to be able to
communicate at a high level. If we're in the no huddle,
How fast and efficient can we operate, How on top
of rules of you know, catching the ball inside the
(31:34):
numbers and getting vertical, catching the ball outside the numbers
and trying to get out of balance, little things, how
we spot the ball, how we try to use our
no huddle offense that we have different phases of it
and kind of layers to it to be able to
apply in those moments. I think it gives us a
pretty extensive menu to choose from, and then we're able
to kind of you know, the final piece of that
(31:56):
is the trust specifically of the quarterback to just kind
of trust in each plays its own, not trying to
you know, not trying to you know, think that there's
a need to overcome the play call and find the
deep element in the play. If we're just trying to
get the ball out, we're trying to have a unique
aspect to specifically yesterday of a protection plan and then
(32:17):
just methodically use the time. I think we got the
ball with three minutes left, and you know, Kevin used
his three timeouts and there was whatever was left on
the clock there at the end, so it was efficient.
It was you know a lot of uh in some
cases sometimes you know, shorter completions just to ensure ourselves
a new set of downs and then be able to reset.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
I thought a couple guys made.
Speaker 7 (32:40):
Some pretty critical plays run after catch or getting out
of bounds that that just kind of allowed us to
you know, move in chunks of yardage or in some
cases small chunks of yardage, but then reset and try
to you know, play that next sequence of downs that way.
And I think that's kind of how I've always looked
at the that phase, and we put a lot of
(33:01):
time into it, and we know games.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Are going to be close.
Speaker 7 (33:04):
A lot of ours have been close, so we've had
plenty of opportunities to kind of make that number go
and and it's been it's been something that's helped us
win a lot of football games.
Speaker 8 (33:13):
In those ramp up JJ physically next week to try
and get him ready to start.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Yeah, it's not it will be this week as well.
He'll be here.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
We'll be able to you know, get him some extensive work,
you know, kind of as a lead into next week,
and then uh, you know, I anticipate his workload building up.
We're going to really take advantage of that bonus Monday,
not only with him, but with with our whole team.
We're going to spend some time as a coaching staff
making sure we're self scouting and taking a look at
(33:44):
exactly you know what we've been how much of what
we are is tied to the adversity we've kind of
dealt with with injuries and then what do we want
our identity to be as a team here as we
attack the post buy part of the season. And we've
a lot of work to be done for sure, But yeah,
I'm excited to you know, get get back here. You know,
(34:08):
JJ got some work today and he'll get some work
throughout the rest of the week.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
We got some other guys he'll be, you.
Speaker 7 (34:12):
Know, getting some work with on the field and then
we'll we'll pick it up officially next week. But I'm
encouraged about where he's at right now.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
Going back to those late game situations, Yeah, and those
moments are how important is a few to sound regular
polls or normal when you're going in place so the
court by doesn't hear any signs of stress or exciting
as all.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
Yeah, I think you know, I you know, the the
it's a weird type of communication, right. They can hear
my voice, but they're hopefully they're not looking over at
me to to see the way I'm delivering it.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
So it is, you know, it is something I think
about from a.
Speaker 7 (34:51):
Standpoint of how I'm delivering information, And what gets hard
is when the play clock starts to creak towards that
fifteen number, and you're trying to you give the information
that's in my head to the quarterbacks so they could
best execute the play. And it might not even be
for that play. It might be you know, making sure
that they know to give the if we are huddling,
(35:12):
give the huddle a reminder of what could be coming.
So if I'm a receiver that ran a twenty yard
route to the left out near the sideline and I've
got to get to a certain spot rather quickly, I
would rather them have at least a preview of that
ahead of time. So it's all those little things, and
it's hard to put your finger on one thing. But
that's a that's a great that's a great aspect of
it that I don't think it's talked about enough. But
(35:35):
I try to be as poised as possible in the moment.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
I don't always do it.
Speaker 7 (35:39):
I'm sure the you know, one of the many quarterbacks
we've had play in those situations would say that they
can tell I'm trying to do it, but it's not
always consistent. So that's always something you're trying to get
better at as a play caller. Making sure that I
think you get the most value received when you can operate.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Like that watching the game that you see on Will's
field goal attempt because there's some video angles something.
Speaker 7 (36:05):
Yeah, it's you know, it's it's I I didn't notice
anything during during the game. That's a that's a pretty
tough angle normally for us anyway.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
You know, most of the time, I'm.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Just trying to gauge the crowd reaction of you know,
depending on if the video board in the stadium is.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
In real time.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
Sometimes it's on a slight delay so you can't watch that.
But you're really trying to just gauge the crowd reaction.
And we did have a lot of purple uh in
at Tottenham Stadium, so it was it was one I
did not notice it.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
I did not see it in the moment.
Speaker 7 (36:38):
You know, I would defer to the lee on you know,
if if that's something that that that there should be
some protocols in place that I that I should know about.
But other than maybe somebody in the booth alerting me
that they saw it or uh, you know, Will himself
is going.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
To be a critical guy in that moment.
Speaker 7 (36:56):
But a lot of times a kicker is a lot
like a golf swing. They're keeping their head down and
they might not even see it initially. He he told
me he thought he hit it well. And you know,
Will doesn't doesn't end up that far off line, you know,
historically since our time having him here.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
But yeah, not not.
Speaker 7 (37:13):
Really sure what to say on that one other than, uh,
you know, that was unfortunate if it did happen, and
if it didn't, so be it. Kevin, what's your quarterback
assessment to Cam Akers and what do you think of
his execution that play?
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (37:27):
We you know, I think you know, Cam has always
been a guy that I've known could throw the football.
But what makes Cam so unique? That was really his
one play on offense. And he comes in the game
and executes the play perfectly, exactly from the details of uh,
you know, where we wanted, how we wanted him to
(37:48):
sell it, the track he took when he initially caught
the ball, uh, and then his ability to kind of
understand that there would probably be a little push and
it would have to be a little bit of a
kind of a fadeaway jumper, and and he's on that
thing and right right in, right in stride to jail
and felt like it was the right time to try
to see if we could pop that one for a touchdown.
(38:08):
The guys made it come to life. But yeah, Cams.
Cam's fantastic from a standpoint of you know exactly what
you're going to get from him, and you can put
a play like that in front of him and he
just has a big smile on his face and attacks
it throughout the week and then he made it come
to life exactly.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
I will say that was his best throw.
Speaker 7 (38:24):
Of his ops we got to see on but he
did complete them all leading into it, so he saved
his best one for the game.
Speaker 6 (38:32):
And then you've been wanted to do that since overlapping
with Rams for him.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Yeah, and we you know, we had him. We had
him throw a couple of times in LA.
Speaker 7 (38:41):
I do remember that, and I just remember when I
was doing the evaluation process, Thomas Brown at the time
was like, you got to see his YouTube clips because
he's got all of his touchdown throws from Florida State
or his completions from Florida State. We're on YouTube. And
then we got to know him a little bit through
the process. And I found out quickly from Cam that
(39:02):
he threw for three thousand yards as a high school quarterback,
so uh, just ask him, he'll tell you. But but no,
I you know, look, you're you're, you're, you're trying to
find ways to score. We felt like there was an
opportunity that presented itself from some previous clips and and
it played out at center.
Speaker 6 (39:20):
If you plan to just try to plug Michael back
in when next week or Blake still kind of stay
in the mix there.
Speaker 7 (39:27):
Yeah, I think what we learned is is we have
another high you know, high quality center option with with
Blake and you know, getting jerks back practicing again. I'll
give us a chance to assess what the best five
looks like, and that's that's what we'll.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Go with and and we'll work through that accordingly. But
Blake did. Blake had a really really strong day.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Which what is it maybe about I guess Plake's demeanor
or just his approach to the game that that you
did feel confident and especially the communication piece.
Speaker 7 (39:55):
Yeah, I think his one his one comment coming out
of the game was just how much fun he had,
you know, he had a blast going out there and
doing it. I think he's got great, you know, football intelligence.
I think it applies to playing the center position because
there's a lot of moving parts that go and you
need your center to be able to kind of direct
(40:16):
in many ways. You know, he's the quarterback the way
we handle our offense, he's the quarterback of the run
game to be able to identify some things and at
least starting points, and then the quarterback can solve some problems.
Maybe from an external landscape, but you know, for a
guy that has played tackle, he's played guard, he's been
he's literally played almost every spot besides that during our
(40:39):
time with him here, for him to step in and
perform like that, it was it was a big moment
and we needed it for our team. I don't think
our group as a whole, I don't think the O
line group could have played as well as they did
without Blake having the performance he did.
Speaker 8 (40:53):
Just in terms of JJ getting back to practice of
what are you looking for from him over these next
week and a half two weeks.
Speaker 7 (41:00):
Yeah, I think it's a it's a good opportunity to
get back to.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
You know, the.
Speaker 7 (41:07):
He's had some real moments of growth through this time.
I think watching Carson, I think watching the way Carson's
kind of gone through progressions quickly.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (41:16):
Just the value of putting the ball in play, even
when it's not your first progression, even when it's not,
you know, the the most exciting completion of all time.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
You know, and you're getting the.
Speaker 7 (41:28):
TJ off of a you know, a little nudge and
a protection to help here that.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
Well, we have a go this a little wordy. I
have three thank you Tommy. First of all, thanks for
having me.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
