Speaker 2 (00:20):
Amen to that common man here along with tenemy, the
legendary Mark.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Rosen joins us as well.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Good afternoon, No good afternoon In the year, did you
see ESPN just basically, I mean they dissed your Minnesota
Timberwolves club the ESPN I did not. ESPN says they
think you win forty three games and be the eighth seed.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
In the NFC the NBA's Western commence.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
You have them as the second scene, probably winning close
to sixty games?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Do they?

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Is it the panel of the esplus? Likely they're analytics because.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I'm you know, when I watch you know, ESPN of
course is heavy into it.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
This year is gonna be NBC because you know, they
get the rights back and they're going to be doing
the old original theme song, et cetera, et cetera, and
they're they're going to be spiffing up the product. But
ESPN Wales, Yeah, I know, it's a John Tesh song. Yeah,
it's so good. So I don't know. I mean, if
you're to answer your question, I mean, if it's an
analytics guy, then great, good for him.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I don't really care.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
You know, if the experts are all weighing in on
the panel that are you know you used to watching, right,
then you go, okay if you think they're going to
finish eighth, And I'm like, I like to hear the rationale,
but I don't agree with it. But that's fine. That's
why we have all these pre season things that go on.
It doesn't matter to me.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, I mean, I'm sure there's probably any number of
I don't know. It's kind of crazy to think that
they would have them drop. I mean I understand, you know,
fourth or fifth or whatever, but I go to eighth.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It's well, I mean they were like the seventh seed
last year, were they not? Well?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
They they blew a lot of earth.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I think there were sixth Yeah, so that's fine.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
And they have a pen point at least they did.
They will tend to be remembered. They have a pension
for losing. The problem is is that they've really hurt
themselves in the last two years. I think, especially last
year in the seating by losing games to you know,
teams that have got a dozen wins or wins. And
then and then what would always annoy me was after

(02:28):
the game the quotes from the locker room, right while
the other team tried harder.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Well, that's hey, we talked about that. That has to change.
And when you talk the maturity of this team that's
still based around a lot of young guys, has to
come internally that we can't afford to have those nights
again again. If you want to look at this standard
bear and right now it's Oklahoma City, they didn't have
many of those nights when you know, and they have

(02:54):
a target on their back. They have and then and
even more so this year when every team is going
to look at playing them, especially on their own home court,
as kind of a championship type game. We're going to
be able to measure ourselves against the champs. We got
to put our best foot forward. Well, you know the
Wolves unfortunately, Yeah, they've stubbed their toe way too many times,
even at home against teams that they should and they've

(03:16):
had like double digit leads and you know, it's just
typical in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
But they they've blown them, and.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
That's that's where the maturity has to happen this year
in order to get that lofty goal of maybe getting
a higher seat.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
We I probably spend an inordinate amount of time talking
about the quarterback controversy in Minnesota, even if it is
if maybe it's not even a controversy. But here's a text.
Messag says common It really sounds more like people who
are desperate for wins want wins, unable to see bigger picture.

(03:48):
The rest of us can't see the whin's. People want
to win now no matter what, more than happy to
settle for ten and seven in the first round knockout,
same thing we've done for Attorney. I'd much rather have
a terrible season with Karthy so we can have reps
and a pick in an early round knockout with wins.
I think you're wrong, McCarthy. People want him to start
because he has the best chance to win. I didn't
say that. They want him to start for reps in

(04:10):
something new, more than happy with the terrible season, a
good draft picked.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
And I'm in the minority. I can't I can't follow
that logic.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
That would be like, remember when the Twins finally broke
that streak they won the division, They broke that eighteen streak,
and everybody was beside themselves because the team basically said,
we're not trying to win, We're gonna cut payroll, and
people were beside them how whatever, This would be the
same thing. We went fourteen and three and guess what,
we don't care if we win this year.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
We're just going to break in a new quarterback.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
I assure you that that's what he just said.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
He said he wants reps.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
He would just assume have a terrible season just so
McCarthy gets a season under his belt. So just throw
away a season a team that went forth, And the
team certainly didn't feel that way because they went out
and signed or really expensive players, two in the interior
the offensive line and two in the defense, expensive players
because they didn't want to say, oh, we went fourteen

(05:09):
and three, that well, it was too bad. We got
beat by Detroit. We had a chance with the number
one SEO. We got beat by Detroit. We got crushed
by the Rams, embarrassed by them. But we're gonna rebuild
both lines. But we really don't care if we win.
The moves the Vikings made on their two lines on
the interior of their offensive ear was a clear signal

(05:29):
that they felt we can make another playoffs and push
for a big game.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
They just felt they could do it with McCarthy.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
But there's nobody out there that just says, well, if
we have a bad season, I just want to see
McCarthy take his lumps and get him better.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
That's preposterous. That's not what you do. You don't do that.
You only do that if you're a bottom feeder team.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
If you're two in in thirty, you were two in
seventeen games, you were two and fifteen or three and fourteen,
and you draft the number one pick overall, that's when
you take your lumps. You don't take your lumps after
a fourteen and three season spend all that money on
the interior of the line.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
And that's crazy talking from that text message. Well, that's
a it's an armchair fantasy football player.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah what that is.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
And that's fine, that's being a fan. But I can
sure there's no one over Tco Orthopedic Studios, as they say,
or the entire building that would echoing has thought like
you said, there's no one, there's no there's no Uh,
we're going to build for the future. If you're the
New York Jets right now and you're you know, you
know you're not going anywhere, you know, probably the Cleveland

(06:37):
Browns is traded back for Joe Flacco. I mean, there
are teams that are already looking ahead. The Vinings are
not not even close.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
And because of the ebb and flow of the National
Football League season and how things can change on a dime,
and the talent that they have, as you mentioned, and
then how they invested in those lines, they're not going. Yeah, well,
well just if we finished that, that thought has an
entered anyone's mind over there, that would be almost a
fireable offense. The Will family, Uh, the general manager. There's

(07:10):
there's this way, way too much invested in time, scouting,
all of that to think, well, we're just going to
kind of go through the motions here and we finished
whatever nine and eight and we get a better There's
nothing that no one's talking about next year's draft or
even thinking about that.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Well, that's what I'm saying is I don't think I
think he's in the vast minority of he just he
was he's happy with the with the miserable season as
long as McCarthy gets his reps.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, And the fact that if McCarthy does start next week,
it has nothing to do with that backing up that theory.
It's just the idea that And first of all, we
don't know, and we won't know ho til next week.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
And granted it's his left shoulder, but Wentz suffered, you know,
an injury of some sort. Obviously finished the game on adrenaline,
but we don't know if that's going to hamper him
at all. I don't believe it. Well, but you know,
we don't know. We're not getting any medical updates this
week because the Vikings are off. They're getting I'm sure
Carson Wentz is in there every single morning getting treatment

(08:11):
as a as a bunch of players are like Aaron
Jones and and you know, look go down the line.
I mean Blake Cashman and Van Ginkle's neck injury, which
is problematic. And you know we're not hearing even from
the coach the other day that you know, we talk
about guys getting back on the field. Donovan Jackson will
be returning to offensive line from you know, he has
a wrist injury that's a little bit different than you know,

(08:31):
a neck injury that could really derail someone's season and
potentially his career, and that's something that they're very concerned with.
But all those guys are you know, as they say
in the Chris Wovan famously once said, we're all where's
They're in the training room on the line and that's
what they're doing this week with the rest of them
are enjoying some well deserved time off this week, the

(08:53):
last time they have any time off this season. Yeah,
so we'll find out a lot more. But yeah, the
Wentz went shoulder thing was, you know, he suffered an
injury and you know it's not going to prevent Hi
from throwing a football, but you know, you just you know,
want to throw them out there. He's not he's not healthy.
So we'll see how that works out. Right next week.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
If the playoffs started the day, I think the vikings
would be a playoff.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
I saw that the pairings that are you playing at
San Francisco.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
I like their chances playing San Francis. The two quarterbacks
wakers going ahead to have.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
And yeah, yeah, and this is I think after watching
this weekend's game, people, you know, and the beauty of
all of it is it changes so fast, perceptions of teams,
perceptions of players, how standings are going to roll, and
it's it's just like it's crazy to you know, overreaction.

(09:47):
They always talk about this overreaction. Yeah, people, it's it's
the nature of the game, because it's once a week
and you overreact to a team and you know how
they're performing in October, and October football doesn't even resemble
December football. And you have to obviously put yourself in
a position right now to contend to be in that,

(10:10):
you know, to be in the chase, to be in
the race. But you know, if you're if you're just there,
and the vikings are certainly there right now, no one
is thinking about, uh, you know, it's just kind of
mailing it in or throwing the rookie out and then
the rookie, but the second year player out there and
and if we don't if he doesn't do well, well
we got a better draft pick. Now. Oh no, they're
trying to trying to win a division. They're trying to

(10:31):
get a playoff spot, and that's a long ways away.
They've played five games.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
I keep getting text messages of people that they don't care.
They think that they've given up on the season already.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
No, they have no, that's what why would they?

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Here's what he says, Wentz is not going to win
us the Super Bowl. I want to know McCarthy's the
real deal or the next ponder now, rather than kicking
the bucket even further down the line, why why wait
four years to find out where we can fund out
when we what we can in three?

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Instead? You said first round quarterback and set back in
an organization five plus years. We need to know now.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Okay, yeah, but there's nobody in that organization. But here's
what I'm trying to tell people. You can you can
want them, but that's not what they're going to do.
Everything they did in the off season was designed to
get you went fourteen and three. That was my Twins comparison.
That's why we're just so mad at the Twins. You
finally make postseason, win the division, you finally break that

(11:29):
over eighteen steak, and now you're gonna cut payroll and
not try to win next year. That would have been
like the Bikers saying, we know we need help in
the interior of the two lines. But we're we're not
going to do anything. We're just gonna stay where we are.
We're just gonna try to put our quarterback. It's so provided.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
What I'm saying is.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
I think O'Connell was convinced he could he could, he
could contend make the playoffs and make a playoff push
with a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
He was either that high on McCarthy that.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Last year, you know, going into this this year, this year,
this year, that he was not last year, this year,
that he either felt that that because you don't make
those moves and spend that kind of money on veteran
players for this season if you don't feel like it's
you're coming off of fourteen of threes. So and he

(12:19):
obviously felt that he could do it with McCarthy, either
because he was really high on McCarthy or really high
in his ability to coach up quarterbacks or both.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
And to add to that theory common is that you know,
Donovan Jackson was the first guard or offensive lineman the
Vikings a draft in the first round since Ranald McDaniel
how many years ago.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
That was.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
That's another indication about how they needed to bolster that
the what was not just perceived but was absolutely the
week week's spot in this lineup. And now you look
at it, Oh, we don't know what's gonna have with
Ryan Kelly Brandell or Brandell. I mean looks like he's
you know, I mean, whether that's a one game showing
or whatever it is, but it looks like he's, you know,

(12:59):
he's pretty comfort in that position. But getting getting obviously
Christian darrisow back maybe full time. O'Neill hopefully will be
able to come back. We don't know the severity year
he's got that, you know, the knee injury, but it
sounded like thankfully it was not surgery wasn't required, but
he might be able to you know, fight through it
and play through it. But Donovan Jackson's coming back and
they invested heavily in him, in him and he's playing

(13:21):
awfully well. So no, I mean, and if JJ McCarthy
starts next week, it's not an indication that that we're
just gonna let the season roll ride out. I mean,
we don't know how he's going to play against a
great Eagles team.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I'm convinced the head coach thinks McCarthy can win right now. Now,
that's why he's playing. That's that's why, that's why they
went into the season with him. That's why they said,
we love you, Sam Darnold, but we're not going in
that direction.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Aaron, Hey, I love you. I had I had to
come in as.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
A professional courtesy because you wanted to play here. We
have a good relationship, but we're going in the direction
of the kid.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
And I believe that McCarty. That that that that.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
O'Connell not only believes McCarthy, but he believes in his
own ability to coach up quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Well, that's why I understand. I agree with that too.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Unfortunately, that whole big game plan was the rail last
year when McCarthy could not practice even practiced last year,
and so he's behind the eight ball. Then he suffers
his ankle injury, he's even worse behind the eight ball.
And we've seen, we've talked about it, the young quarterbacks
in this league, second year quarterbacks of that class that
are performing at a high level. After how many games

(14:27):
Every NFL quarterback worth his salt is always talked about, Man,
you need this amount of snaps, this amount of reps.
I mean O'Connell's talked about it. JJ's not there yet,
but that doesn't mean he's not going to get those
reps and may start next Sunday. No, it's I would
not be surprised at all. Are you ready to laugh
your face off? Yes, just a couple of pickpockets, the

Speaker 4 (16:32):
He's tend to be Mark Rosen Here You're out tomorrow.
So a wild start the season tomorrow?

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Right ten?

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Who do we play? Yes? Say Louis at St. Louis,
Saint Louis Blues. What's your pretty?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Yes, that's why they call it the Blues.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (16:46):
You you have the Wolves finishing as the uh they
will finish second in the West and be the number
two seed, winning close to sixty games.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Where do you see the U in terms of points
or what?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
I don't know you, I mean standings just like a
fourth finish or making the playoffs? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Do you how high? Why?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I you know?

Speaker 2 (17:04):
It's it's it's so hard to predict because of injuries
and everything else. I think they're a playoff team, a
caprice off is obviously they motivated after signing the contract.
It's all about goaltending and uh, how these young players develop.
I mean, they got to take that next step. And
there's still you know, Zucarella is off for quite a while,

(17:25):
Brodine is out. Though they're they're not there's not a
lot of veterans on this team that they can rely on.
So I mean, I wouldn't be surprised, you know, potentially
get off to a bit of a rocky start. But
you know, I think you always start with the fact
that they're going to make make the postseason, and then
you know, the thing with the wild of courses, get
can they get past the first round? And that's all

(17:45):
matchups and who they're going to play in the first
round and et cetera, et cetera.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
But you can always hope for the best, that's all.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
That's all you can do, and hope that you know,
the obviously the brock Favors of the world and some
of these newer guys that you know, they have some
talent and it's just a man of Bill Gerrin's talked
about it having these guys kind of take that next
step and that that's the biggest thing because they they're
not They didn't sign any you know, other you know,
big free agents, and there's no one that came in

(18:12):
and said, oh boy, we got someone that pear with Caprisoo.
Tarasenko is a name, but he's you know, five years
ago he was a really big name. And whether he's
going to discover that fount in the youth and there
are a lot of players that do in the NHL,
you know, play at a you know, at a really
high level late in their careers, you know, but you
got to hope that he does that. I don't know

(18:33):
a lot of what. I don't know what to say.
It's just that they got to make make the postseason
and hope for the best and next April.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
I know, Wild fans have been extremely patient with this
franchise right over the last decade and a half and
have seen a lot of failures.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Come to playoffs.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
I still believe and I think this is the way
the front office and the ownership views as well. There's
still a stepping stone year. Yeah that yeah, I think
last year they described it as like year two of
a five year plan, and I think this is we're
gonna get the feet wet of all our younger guys.
But to assume that basically year one for a lot
of these guys that they are going to be you

(19:10):
know right Stanley Cup and tenders is probably asking a bunch.
But I think it's all right. Let's integrate the younger guys,
give them experience, and then two three years down the road,
plus you know it is possible come trade deadline. Now
they finally have flexibility at from a salary camp standpoint
where they can actually go out and be buyers for ones,
whereas they have not been able to do that nice
for a long time. So I still look at this

(19:32):
as transition. And then next year, two years from now, Hey,
this is the chance that we should have everything here
together to make a run for the Cup.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
And this is this is nothing with the final standings,
but keep in mind this is also an Olympic year
and the NHLs are going to be playing in the Olympics.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
And bill gear and I believe it's thet for caprisof
because the Russians can't play right.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Russians cannot play but Bold he's going to play right
and I mean Garin's is a GM as any of
the Yes, he is the US team. So we are
going to see that again next February, the league shutting
down for what three weeks I believe so, And that's
that's a big deal for a lot of especially these
young players that get an opportunity to make you know,

(20:13):
the USA team and you know, we know those the
days of the amateur teams are long gone, but keep
that in mind. Yeah, there's right, no Russian team in
the Olympics.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
What do you think of that?

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I don't like it, Like I don't like the politics
of you know, not having them in there. I just
think that, you know, there's so many great Russian.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Players, like the actual citizens of Russia shouldn't be based
off of their politicians.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Well and well, listen, this even goes back to I know,
nineteen eighty, but it came close to you know, the
Russians were going to not go to Lake Placid because
the whole thing with the Afghanistan and what went on,
and I mean politics were a part of it then.
And then they decided that we're going to go and
we're going to clean up and ensure everybody. We're the
you know we're the best team in the world again
and again and again, and we know how that worked out.

(20:56):
But yeah, I agree, I mean we root for these players.
You know, it's not a patriot. I mean, you know
who's more popular than Carell, Caprice soft Well, where does
he live? He lives in Russia, So I mean and
and uh, you know ovechkins of the world. I mean, yeah,
we don't care about where they're from when they're playing
in the regular season.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
And I don't. I don't.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
I don't think they should be penalized because again, the
politicians have made it impossible for them not to. It's
it's it's ridiculous. Anyway, Have I told you how much
I like that Dallas Matvericks roster. You brought it up yesterday?
Oh did I? I don't know, talk fourteen times.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
That I love that roster.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
Well, I think I'm about to say some of the
controversy I kind of switch gears. I think it might
be one of the best roster ever ever assembled in
the history of the National battle.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
I and I you know what, I applaud you for
your outlandish statement.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
I think they'll be the number one seed and I
think they'll go sixteen in two in postseason. Yeah, they'll
only lose two games, and they're going to lose the
first two games of their first series.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
They're going to rattle off sixteen in.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Well, it's a long time between now and having that
next discussion when you were going to say, remember when
you said that back in October.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
You're getting ripped by the way.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
For what rolls and has no problem in putting the
Wolves into the number two seed, but doesn't know where
to put the Wild because of injuries.

Speaker 5 (22:13):
Do injuries not happen in the NBA?

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Well, of course they do.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
But I mean, I'm saying that I always love more
from a talent standpoint. Okay, I said they're young. Tenant
has laid it out. I don't think anyone's expecting. I
think the expectations for the Wolves are a lot higher
than they are for the for the Wild.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
That's just a fact. I mean.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
And maybe they'll you know, listen, I going back to
two thousand and three with Riise Brow and Jacques Lavier coaching,
and that team was supposed to go anywhere. All of
a sudden, you know, they went from Colorado to Vancouver
and they're playing Anaheim in the Western Conference Finals and
Shagear shut them out every game. That team wasn't supposed
to go anywhere they didn't want them. I mean, the
owners really like, hey, listen, we're not ready for this yet. Yeah,

(22:54):
and they so we know that a hot goalie could
make a big difference. But that's that's a different conversation
than where we are right now.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I have a controversial Timberwolves question to ask you, and
then I want to talk a little bit about Major
League Baseball playoffs.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
It's gotten interesting in.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
A couple of difft last night, so we'll do that
other side of the break. It's Tenebee, common Man and
Mark Rosen right here in the fan.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
No more comedy shows to remote right now other than
hope to see you at max Is on the Green
and Spice or Saturday.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Did I tell you that the the Spicer City Council
had a meeting last night and they they're calling Saturday
meet Sauce and common.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Man Day and Spicer is that proclamation they're giving us
keys to the city which is not New London.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
Which is I guess they are.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
They are few like the Halffields and McCoy's in New London, though,
handing the keys to anything.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
To meet Sauce and I could be a big mistake
because this.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Is the petty theft tour.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
We're just a couple of pickpockets. So I don't think
they should do that.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
It sounds like Saturday only anyone who commits a petty
theft gets pardoned.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yes, and and you know what else are doing. They're
having a prey for me. Well it's only about a
block long. Oh that's right, but it'll be for us.
My favorite player in the in the in the NBA
is Victor Wea right. He has grown two inches since
last year. God, he was listed as seven. He was
listed at seven to three last year. Now the rosters

(24:30):
say he's seven to five.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Come on, it's the story.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
They listed him as seventh three. Well, he's still a kid.
But twenty two or something.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
I don't think.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
I think it's I think it's his legend that's growing.
What it didn't even come on, he didn't grow two inches?

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Well you never know. It's coming as late late spurt
like that. Guys do grow in their early twenties.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
I got a controversial question. I'm about to ask you.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
He's twenty one years old.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
He's only twenty one.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Only twenty one, Wow, And I would trade any player
in the NBA right now for him.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Yeah, it's going to be a he's going to be
a stud.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
He already is coordination growing another team.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Well, that's a good that's a good question.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
If he can't make it in in the NBA, he
could try to block field goals and then football league.
Do you think this is a controversial wals. Do you
think that in order for the Wolves to get to
that next step, to get to the NBA Finals, they
need an m v P like season out of an.

Speaker 5 (25:28):
Of course they do, But do you think that it
has to be MVP like really good? Yes?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
No, I mean I think he's got to be an
s G A type of season. And you look at
the teams that end up getting there almost without fail,
there's one player in particular that is an m VP
candidate that comes down to the last two or three
in the in the their respective conferences. So has to
be in that conversation if they're going to if they're

(25:55):
going to move the needle and get not just to
the Western Conference finals, but beyond it, and then I
think that's what he's dedicated himself to this this offseason
and looking at what he needs to do to keep
improving at his young age, and the competition is getting
stiffer by the day, and the players the talent level
continues to improve. But yes, I mean he has to
be the guy that the old Kirby Pucket jump on

(26:17):
my back next spring in the playoffs in particular, got
to play at a higher level if the Wolves want
to get going to that to the NBA Finals.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
Speaking of about climbing on on one's back, Toronto had
a two games to none lead over the New York
Yankees going into Game three last night, and they had
a three or four run lead early till one league
and then Aaron Judge rose to the occasion. How about
this box score for him?

Speaker 3 (26:43):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
He had three hits and four at bats, scored three runs,
had a walk, drove in.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
Four runs, and had one home run.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
I mean, that's that's that's the kid climbing on your back.
And they were able to win that game nine to
six and extend us two way a game four.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
The Yankee stadium was awfully quiet. Toronto looked like they
were going to sweep that series, and then unfortunately the
recipient of most of that barrage from Aaron Judge was
our guy, Louis Varlan. Judge hit a three run homer
off the fall pole, was like one of those Carlton
Fisk type moments where you didn't know if it was
going to go fair or falling, and clanked off the
pole for a three run homer. And then Varlin proceeded

(27:23):
to give up a home run to Chisholm, and that
was kind of the beginning of the end.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
It was the end of his night. But the Yankees went.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
From trailing six to one to leading seven to six,
and then they never looked back. So big momentum swing
for them that you know, playing at the Yankee Stadium,
and now they plague in today. I think there's three
games today.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Tonight the Dodgers try to wrap up against That's almost
it seems like a foregone conclusion. That's a that's an
awfully talented team. Their pitching staff is I think almost
second to none.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
Their everyday lineup.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Otawani, you know, Philly's good, and I'm not saying it
could be, but I would think that probably.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Well they have their best chance to Philly is common
The other day that game was a common special. It
was scoreless and the seventh inning two phenomenal pitching performances
by the start, neither I think giving up more than
one or two hits. Then the Dodgers has found a
way and that's what they normally do. Yeah, and your
Brewers team looks like they might be closing out the Cubs.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Well, I want to get to them in a moment.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
But the other American League, Mariners are playing the Tigers
right now.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
They have a chance to close it out. It's Game
four in Detroit. Marriors lead one nothing, and that is
in the that's good team right at the bottom of
the second the The Brewers are an interesting team. They
they they you know, it's I guess the comparison, you know,
like size of city and such like that would be
the Twins and payroll, right, I mean, they're they're they're

(28:48):
they're they're They're a mid market team. They I don't
think they have the biggest payroll in baseball.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
I know they don't. And their first they leave the
series two games to none.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
They they play at Wrigley today at four correct, and
they won their first game, if I'm not mistake, and
by driving a nine.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
They scored nine runs and they didn't hit a home run.
They were just playing you know, that small walk on
stuff you base hits, moving, moving runners around, stealing basis.
And then yesterday they win, or may it was two
days ago, whenever the game two was and they win
by I think they hit three home runs.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
They can do so many different things, that's for me,
you know. And and look, I think most people that
reside outside of Los Angeles or New York hate the
Dodgers and the Yankees because of the payrolls and the
big cities, and you know, so they they they And
even though other teams do spend a lot of money
as well, there are other teams out there that might

(29:42):
not be in that.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
You know, the Mets, well that's another New York team.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
But there are other teams that spend money, but it's
certainly not at the at the rate that New York
and Los Angeles does.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
If you're looking for to me, that that that kind
of team, and it.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Might pain Minnesota fans because we we pretty much despise
everything Wisconsin, but that that worst team is a team O, yes,
that you can you can latch onto because they they
they find different ways to win baseball games.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Yeah, you know, they they have such a great rivalry
with the Cubs anyway because the proximity et cetera, et cetera.
But they're they you know, they won what ninety seven
games this year. I think that wasn't the best record
in baseball and they finished first. The Cubs were a second,
So you know, they're for them. They go down without
kind of putting up a fight. It would be devastating

(30:29):
for the Cubs because they visioned themselves. But Milwaukee's awfully good.
I don't see them losing that series. Christian Yelich and
then they have a really good lineup, but they're consistent.
You know, they steal bases like crazy, and so yeah,
I mean it's pretty hard not to root for that team. Payroll,
et cetera, et cetera, fan base history. It'd be nice

(30:50):
to see, uh, you know, Milwaukee and the Dodgers in
a Nationally championship series would be kind of you know,
like you know, the again, the lower rung, kind of
small market team against the mighty Dodgers would be you know,
a contrast that you normally would see. I think, and
I hope Toronto can come back and I mean I
loved I love the city of Toronto, love it, and

(31:10):
I'd love to see them come back. And and they're
baseball people. Andrew Miller, who's they had one of the
chief executive officer for the Vikings, was a big hunter
with the Toronto blow.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Yeah he came.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
That's he's got a baseball background, and and he came
here and he's uh cheering like crazy for you.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
Like Toronto team, don't you.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
Well i'd like to. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
I mean they're fun. I mean they're they're a good team.
But again it's not as it's not the glamor. I mean,
it wouldn't be. You know, we had the Yankees the
Dodgers last year in the World Series and it was
a captivating series. It had everything, including Freddie Freeman's dramatic
home run. Rogers won, right, Yeah they did, they did.
But you know, I think from a baseball standpoint, we
haven't had that taste of it since you know, ninety one,

(31:52):
really getting to that distance.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
But having waked the alc Us once and then didn't
we didn't we get to the alc Us I'm like
two thousand and two or two thousand and.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Six and lost to Oakland.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Or didn't we get to one American League Championship Series
or did we not?

Speaker 5 (32:07):
Did it just get to it? Since ninety one, I
thought we got to one.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Yes, yeah it was two thousand and two. Yes, they
get to know him team the Angels, the Angels, Yeah,
that was when they had the Rally Monkeys. I remember
being out there.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
That's when David Ortiz played his last games with the
Minnesota Twins.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
Remember those days?

Speaker 3 (32:22):
What happened to him?

Speaker 4 (32:24):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Yeah, I was out there.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Remember Bead doug Man Kaevich and Louise Rev Christian Guzman
Santana on the team.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
I think it was that Brad Racky's time. Raky was
definitely there. Yeah, but yeah, that was a That was
a good team. And I just remember I was that
kid's name that it was a. Uh he had an
uppercut swing for the Angel So one will text I'm
sure get three home three home runs against the Twin
pearcel no Adam something or rather I think I can't

(32:55):
remember his name. Someone will let me Adam Sandler. He's
coming back to town and he's got a comedy show
coming up. Kennedy or something like that. He had three
home runs against the Twins. Anyway, that was You're right,
that was That was it. That was it was, Oh wow,
I have do have a memory less But that was it.
And David Artiez had a wrist injury and you know,
he's still hitting the ball, and the Twins and a

(33:17):
lot of teams passed on him. It's not just a
matter of the Twins just gave up on him. A
lot of teams did. All of a sudden. He got healthy,
kind of got healthy with the Red Sox. Oh that
one hurts anyway.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Yeah, I mean I can see you're pained by it
just by I watched.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
I mean, it was so typical Minnesota sports, that's all
I mean it really. I mean, of all things, you know,
Big Pappy, it's just was I not to just have
a really good career, A Hall of Fame did everything
to get in the Red Sox, giving him their first
World Series and forever so Wild versus Stars on Hockey
Night next morning, they're gonna be on Hockey Night.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Hockey Night in Canada.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Yeah, no, ESPN is going to do two days. I reckon,
we've made that game about that night. The Stars used
to be here in Minnesota. I don't know, if you're
aware of that or not.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
I've talked about that. I just find I rolling. I
think tennebe is one of those guys. He hates them
because and that was Norm Green, and that that wasn't
the franchise.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
I still like the Stars after the while, they're my
second favorite team.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
They used to be here.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Mike McDonagh ball, It's not it's not like everybody on
the team said we don't like it here in Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
It was the owner's decision to leave one guy, not
the franchise.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
He owned it, so he was able to do it.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
Still feels wrong that if you go to American Airlines
Center in Dallas and they have Neil Broughton's jersey hanging
up in the raptors, and Neil Broughton never played in Dallas, Okay,
that they should take that.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Yeah, yeah, Norm was to be up here in Minnesota.
One of the most arrogant people have ever been around
in my life. And I work with you every day
and he you know, and he tried, in his own way,
said every day, No, not every day. Three a week, yeah,
well it's bye week, you know, I got to get

(35:06):
out of town. He tried hard in his own good way.
Look at him, look at Oh my god, you're looking
at a highlight pack.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
Look at Draymond talk.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
I thought you were a Dallas Mavericks fan. Now you
can't just go back and forth, stick with your team.
I just like anyway. I don't want to go in
the old Norm Green saga. But it's it was. He
was a hard guy to be your own. Leave it
at that little dog.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
He did little dogs, but he did.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Wasn't he the owner when we went to the finals
in ninety one?

Speaker 3 (35:42):
The finals? Anyone?

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Yes, so they can't be all bad. Well they had
nothing to do with him, but I wouldn't say, but well,
the ownership has something. Well, well, I guess you yeah,
maybe they really don't. I guess they don't. They're not
drafting the players, they're signing the page. They played the
Pittsburgh Penguins and the finals. That was a fun time
for hockey fans who weren't born back then. It was

(36:04):
a fun time at met Center, one of the great
arenas in our country. The colored seats, fun times.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Those are the days, my friend, I thought they'd never ended.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Yeah, well I know, unfortunately they did.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
Who are the Gophers out?

Speaker 2 (36:23):
This week football, they play with thinking, Yeah, Purdue boiler Makers.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Boiler Makers are just middling, right, Yes, they're just they're
they're Purdue.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Prdue after having i mean for a year, for decades.
It seems like they always had a great quarterback. They
were quarterback kind of quarterback. You they always had great quarterbacks.
And they had Drew Brees, and they had Drew Brees for that,
they had greasy. Oh they did have greasy. Yeah, they
had They had a bunch of them. So, I mean, yeah,
this is I haven't seen the points spread for the game.
I assume the Gophers are slight favorites.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Is that here?

Speaker 2 (36:59):
Yes, Uh, you're looking for a rebound game for this
club court. Well, I think given the fact that that
game was over in the first court, I mean, Ohio
State is giving up what they got up one touchdown
this year and not even that. I don't know, but
you know, you're you're getting back in your old weight class,
as they say, using the boxing term. So I think

(37:19):
when PGA looks at this, you know the success of
this team this year, these are the games of course
they have to win. I mean you look at the
schedule and they're not Ohio State's just going to they
play Illinois this week. I'm anxious to see how that
kind of turns out. Illinois's pretty good, but they're not.
I don't think anyone's in Ohio State's class in the
Big ten, including Michigan this year. I think there's a
wider disparity between those two teams.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
Do you think Oregon can you give them a run
for their money?

Speaker 3 (37:43):
Yeah? Yeah, Do they play Oregon?

Speaker 5 (37:45):
I don't know. I'm just probably Oregon.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Is no question in the Oregon when you know, took
care of Penn State, so I mean, I think that's
the only team that could athletically compete with those highs.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Well, then those those California Jabronis went beat beat Penn State.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Two.

Speaker 5 (38:01):
Penn States dropped.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Out of the top twenty five for the first time.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
And Ages and same with your you know, you were
you were, you were a big arch Manning guy thought
he was going to be the next superstar. You didn't
know and Arch he's a kid.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
That team they started out one, they are now also
out of the top twenty four.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
That yeah, a little spicy expectations for that young man
and the rest of the team. You know, let him
grow up a little bit. That's the way it's going
to be. Got that Manning name.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Norm and his.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
Little dog, derisively says, the cat guy. So that's what
because you're a cat guy. He's a little dog. A
little dog too. He had well, he had those little time.
There's so many Norm Green stories. Oh my god. Yeah,
he just always had ever present. Uh god.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
He was cocky and arrogant, just all the time. But
that's the thing I wish, because I know he tried
hard to get a deal done at Target Center and
improve the Mets. Senator Louis knows all those story He
was there in Middle Louis's Louis Louis knows everything. He's
got the bodies where they were buried.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
They kept the stars. Screw them, come up with a
different name.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
Well, the Colts they stayed the same. They they were
the Colts in Baltimore. There the Indianapolis was right. The
Browns were the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland and then they
when the team came back, they got another club there.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
They called him the Browns. Now Houston changed from the
Oilers when.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
They went to Tennessee, right, I mean, did they go
to Tennessee, Houston Oiler to go to Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Yes, yeah, Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
That's that's the line from Castaway when Tom Hanks has
served on an island and he finally comes home and
we have a football team. We almso won the Super Bowl.
We have a football team in Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (39:46):
Yeah, think about it.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Yeah hmmm.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
I think we were in Vegas and that you were
actually out there when they I think Tennis was Yeah,
you went out from rare time. I think that was
the Tennessee game when they like three yards short of
the touchdown. Yeah, you're right, it was.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
Yeah, that's look. That was back in the look days,
and we we that's right. We we had.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Those were huge trips. You think the car trip trips
were huge. We had hundreds, hundreds, hundreds, We filled their.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
Their theater.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
They had this huge theater at Big Screen TV that
we had literally hundreds and hundreds of people that would
go on that trip. Was we did it at Treasure
Island for two years, and then I think we did it.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
At uh Down the Golden for two years. I will
never forget ninety I don't have to bring up the
ninety eight season for why are you bringing it up?
Because it has to with Vegas. I was so poed
after that game because I was had We had fifteen
seventeen tickets with the w CCOTV to go to Miami
with the Vikings and Super Bowl, and there was no
way they were not going to get there, et cetera,

(40:56):
et cetera. So I was trying to lick my wounds.
Decide to go to Vegas with the you know, the station,
and we were staying at the Golden Nugget and we
walked in the lobby and I saw there was a
big sign right by the reception desk and said welcome
Viking and Bronco fans. They were so sure that that
was going to be a circle. They had a sign

(41:17):
up there and I just about vomited when I saw.

Speaker 5 (41:19):
That, And I think you did vomit?

Speaker 3 (41:21):
I think I did.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
That had nothing to do with Maybe I had to
do with the three margaritas I had before that. Yeah, Yeah, anyway,
that was a moment. I'll remember the middle of Robin
salt and wound.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
I just saw the promo on ESPN for tonight's Game
three of the w n B A Finals.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
We're not in it, you know.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
I heard that we were supposed to be it looks
like the.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
Officials got it, got us again.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
That's the second year all the official the league has
had any course and the officials, uh.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Man is that league and everyone taking a turn since
you know, the whole New Feasta Collier thing and the
players taking you know, not taking signs, but just it's
it's it's taken on a whole different level beyond the
ace is likely winning this series tonight or the next game.
They play, about the labor agreement, the future, the commissioner salary.

(42:12):
It's just, uh, it's become a lot bigger than the
finals of the the the actual championship. So Cheryl Reeves situation,
you know, it's all of it has been kind of
a hot mess.

Speaker 5 (42:27):
What anything is going to happen in the league?

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Is going to fold?

Speaker 2 (42:29):
No, no, it's way too much. No no, no, no,
not gonna folds. They have to get a new collective
bargaining agreement, I think at some point, and that's what
the players are barking about. But you know, it's a
it's a complex situation and it always is in fact
about labor agreements. So bye week, You're going to take
a little time off. Yeah yeah, car camping again, actually,

(42:52):
you're going with our friends from cold Spring. Oh you are, Yeah,
but no, we're not going to cold Spring. You're not
gonna You're not gonna go camping. No, let's Charlton's got
some campgrounds there. Charles has never been there before. Yeah, Charleston, Charleston,
South Carolina. Yeah, so yeah, I'm excited to see it.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
You know, they go there.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
It's a quick kind of a quick weekend type of thing.
But you know, that's the only time we can really
take off her car and can take off it all
during the season. Then we'll vacasion afterwards. But right after
the super Bowl. Well you got to keep thinking that way,
you know. No, you can't rint them off. I like
this one kid, Yeah, I like ones.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
I do too.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
I mean, it was it's good to see him that
that last drive was really good.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
You know, the best is really what the.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
Best part is is that he he knows they they
They asked him after the game, do you think you
should continue to start? He said, you know, I've spent
a lot of time in my life looking ahead, right
and I'm just gonna and you know what I'm doing nowadays,
he said, I'm just I'm just taking it a moment
at a time, and so I think he does realize

(43:59):
his day in the league are numbered. More than likely
unless he had this renaissance and became the next Sam Darnold,
you know, but his days are number. So he's just
enjoying it and he's given it everything he has and
maybe he's still got maybe there's still a little bit
of magic. And I think top healthunt healthy. I mean,
he's his shoulders unfortunately heard shoulder in his leg. He
can still slam injury. Always got to do is eat

(44:22):
some dirty Robo tustin on it.

Speaker 5 (44:24):
He'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
I mean, thirty two is not if Joe Flacco is
starting this week. He just got traded two days like kid.
I mean, how about what if he be he'd be
the first quarterback. I think they play the Packers, right,
he'd be the first quarterback. I think in the history
of the NFL to beat a team twice with two
different teams. If they if he beats them, they're like
fourteen and a half point.

Speaker 3 (44:43):
Underthing about this if Wentz.

Speaker 5 (44:47):
Could you think about this?

Speaker 4 (44:48):
If after the season is over, Wentz goes to another
team that he hasn't played for yet and starts the game.
He'll be the only quarterback to start for seven different
teams in seven different in seven consecutive seasons.

Speaker 5 (44:59):
I think that should be his goal.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Yeah, well super Bowl is.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
Probably a little bit lofty, but he should just say
I want to start for a different team as many
years in a row as I can.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
So they have that on breaker Secord.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
That might be the case. Your Lions kind of have
a buy this week, don't.

Speaker 5 (45:13):
They can't play Kansas City?

Speaker 3 (45:15):
Oh, that's that's right.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Never mind, I was thinking the Lions and think of
someone else. You know what, Yeah, they got they got
the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (45:20):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
On Sunday, Sunday Night football, be back to what you
know what? Oh my gosh, Chiefs are going to be
two and four. This is a big game for Kansas City.
Losing that game the way they did that, Detroit's gonna
do Detroit.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Detroit is gonna win.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
Well, you get to pick them. I won't be here
tomorrow for spread swing, but I gave I gave ten
of my uh my picks, so we can hardly wait. Well, whatever,
I just want to hit. I got boy. I talked
to uh to deuce and I just took whatever the
opposite of what he was taking.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
A sound strategy is a sound strategy.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
You heard it your first. Kansas City's going to lose
on some day now they might. I wouldn't be surprised.

Speaker 5 (45:59):
I don't even know if they'll across the fifty yard line.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Well, it'll be an interest that will be after losing
the way they did the other night.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
Tough place to win.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
They're cocking Detroit right now, just in case you haven't noticed,
they're really cocky.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Yeah, well they lose an offensive alignment. Next man, next
man up.

Speaker 5 (46:14):
We're used to that.

Speaker 4 (46:15):
We lost lost eighteen last year.

Speaker 5 (46:19):
We'll enjoy your time off. I'll see you next Well,
you've been back.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
Next to Jay, I'll be back for the rest of
the year. Okay, then we'll see you then.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
Tenneby, thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
Hey, great job.

Speaker 5 (46:26):
You was well you didn't really say that like you
really meant it. Hey, great job.

Speaker 3 (46:29):
Yeah, thanks, I.

Speaker 5 (46:30):
Appreciate that you too.

Speaker 3 (46:32):
You had a really grand We'll talk tomorrow at twelve noon.

Speaker 5 (46:36):
A big ticket and JG their next year the good night,
