Speaker 1 (00:20):
A couple thirteen fourteen past, I'm calm and he's tend
to be. The legendary Mark Rose, inform of the Channel.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Four Sports Sports Sports as your whole life, Just sports
Fame joins us. Now, good afternoon to you. I saw
a story where Lebron, who has missed the entire season
until last night, he had sciata if they say it.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Skiata, yes, sciatic, sciatic, You had some kind.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Of a psiatic issue. And I was reading a story
about us come back, and I wish I should have
saved the story, but there was somebody asked him something like,
you know, did about you know, did you think it
might be an issue trying to blend with the team,
And he just laughed and said, I've been playing yeah,
(01:03):
because well it's really not that hard. I've been playing
twenty three years. I know how to play basketball, I
know what to do, but I just couldn't believe it.
He even just laughed at it because it's like it's
kind of a silly question.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Literally, you could pick a team out of a hat
and say, Lebron, you're playing for this team tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
And that's what he played very wellis he had a
lot of assists. He had I think he had eleven assists,
and I think I saw where he had was it
six seven of them in literally the first minutes of
the fourth quarter, that was right away. So he was
he did h He spread the ball around, he made
he he scored some points, and uh yeah, he fit
(01:40):
right in. And that team is they I don't know
how far they'll go, and I don't know if he'll
do a lot of load management in his twenty third year.
No one's played so much basketball before, right, But he
still seems like he can play the game.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
And he got Duncic. It's a good club. Well, it's
a very good club.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
And again they have to, like the Timberwolves, they have
to play their better basketball against the better teams. I'm
not sure who they've run into so far. They're eleven
and four, and when you look at the top aschelon
teams in the West, in particular, obviously starting with OKAC
and then Denver and Houston. San Antonio is in that
(02:16):
conversation without Wemby now for at least a couple of weeks,
if not longer.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Even though they won. I think last night.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
You know they're gonna have their troubles against the better teams,
but you know, hopefully that's not going to be a long.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, Lakers beat the Box, maybe the Pelicans they lost
to the Thunder, beat the Hornets, lost to the Hawks,
beat the Spurs, beat the Blazers, beat the Heat, beat
the Grizzlies.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, there's some mixed mixed bag. Beat the Wolves. Yeah,
they did twice, I think.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, so they've Yeah, they're winning some games ago quality.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
I mean it's interesting because you know, the Wolves are
playing the Washington Generals tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Basically, I think the Washington How can you be one
in twelve?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Well, I was just looking this up. I mean, well,
how can you beat one and twelve? How could be
one and twelve and nine in last place?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
I mean Indiana's one and thirteen. I mean the three
worst teams in the East Brooklyn, Washington, Indiana are combined
four and thirty seven this year, and you're thinking, well,
how do you be a fan of any of those teams?
And we know what happened Indiana, but I don't know
if you're you know, they thought it was a big
deal when Brooklyn went, you know, went to Brooklyn, Andy
(03:23):
had new arena. They're only seven at home. Washington is
only six at home. I mean, I don't know how
was it was a long.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Ago when they had Kyrie Harden or Brooklyn. Yeah, did
they have they had a good team. Yeah, it wasn't
it wasn't it wasn't it Kyrie Durant was there, wasn't he.
I don't know. I think it was Kyrie Harten. Guys. Yeah,
we're saying.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Three high impact players or at least big name players,
and uh, it's a.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Problem when you're trying to market those teams. And I know,
we we I saw the comments, you know, flipping it
to the Western Conference and then Zion Williams was talking
about New Orleans and they're two and twelve. You know,
the fans aren't going in the games. Even the premium
seats are sitting empty. And you know, man, I'll tell
you when things go south and from a marketing standpoint.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
We know that here.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I think the closest thing is the Twins and how
they're going to kind of rally around a new manager,
some young players and trying to sell tickets for a
team that you know basically was waving the white flag
and has been for quite a while. But in the
NBA in particular, they have nots are really dreadful, and
that's one of the teams. You know, one of those
(04:32):
teams are here tonight again, and I guess to the
Wolves credit. I mean, they haven't unlike past years. They've
they've managed to put their foot down on those teams
and keep winning, and they haven't beaten the team with
the winning record. That you know that'll have to change
starting Friday night when they go to Phoenix. But yeah,
I mean it's it's not you know, these are not
healthy franchises right now. Uh and every sport can have them.
(04:55):
But I've been there, yes, this range, oh god, yes,
I remember too many.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
They I don't know if they still.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Hold this record one of the major men's for they
have the worst, the lowest eding percentage of all time.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
This franchise does.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Now, I don't know that may have changed now I
think for a while the Clippers were right there. I mean,
and then they got better obviously, But no, they're not
having a good year either. I mean that that was
a team that was supposed to be much better this year.
I don't know, they're four and ten. But Memphis was.
You know, they had their run a couple of years
ago Jah when they beat the Wolves, and the look like
they were going to be the kind of the team,
(05:33):
the team of the future, long before OKC emerged. And
now they're just struggling. And there's a lot of speculation
that John Morant will still get traded at some point
because Memphis isn't going anywhere. They've lost their mojo obviously.
Dallas has got plenty of issues. And you know, teams
that were you know, the Clippers, Memphis and Dallas were
all really good basketball teams and really good runs for
(05:55):
a while, and that this is what happens. You don't
kind of keep the core together and or else keep
some playing your core with you know, young players that
are up and coming, but it can it can fall
off the ledge in a hurry. And that's what's going
on other cities and franchises I mentioned.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And we used to be one of those.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
God, yes, a lot of a lot of Knights going
to Target Center and watching the first half of those
games before I go back to work and watching the
dark millsages of the world, and you know, Robbie Hummels
and you know Pekovich, and I mean, these guys that
were the fans would try hard to kind of rally around.
They weren't ever as maybe as bad in one particular
(06:34):
eyear though they've had They've had some dreadful years, but I
never saw the light at the end of the tunnel
with those teams.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Wikipedia says in regular season play, the Boston Celtics have
the highest win loss percentage at five ninety six. Meanwhile,
the Timberwolves have the lowest win loss percentage with still
at four sixteen. I didn't know that, but I don't
know when this Wikipedia p was put together, you know,
(07:04):
when it was last updated.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
But that's, uh, that's what it says there.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Yeah, we've been a terrible team in a terrible steals
a long long decades full of lost causes and poor management,
and you know, it's everything about it. I mean, it's
it's changed obviously dramatically, and you hope that those days
never return. But as we've seen, you know, things can change.
I just mentioned, you know, three of the teams in
Memphis and Dallas and Indiana right now going through it
(07:31):
where you just go there's no hope and you're.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Getting ripped for what three people have said.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Preseason comment said this Lakers club could be dangerous. Rose
and said the Wolves had nothing to worry about. Now
today you just said there's going to be a team
to be reckoned with. Well, which one is it?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Mark?
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Well, wait a minute, Wait a minute, wait a minute.
The Wolves have nothing to worry about about the Lakers. Well,
I mean if push comes to shove of the Platt Well,
first of all, yeah, there'll be a competitive series. I
don't I don't know if the Wolf I've ever said
the Wolves somebody they said worry about?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Well, no, just said this said he says. Rosie just
said the Lakers is going to be trouble. But last
week he said they were not a team to worry about.
Which one is it? Roller coaster?
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Rosen? Last week you said one thing and now you're
saying another.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
You're like Bob, I don't remember saying, Well, the listeners
pay attention to this trust me. Well, I think sometimes
you end up saying something because you are like pairing
Mason up the airwaves, and you end up putting words
in my mouth. And I'm supposed to have to, you know,
disagree or agree say what people are saying. I may
I may have changed my opinion about the quarterback for
(08:34):
the Vikings. That's a whole other story. Yeah, that's a tease.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Oh you like him though, like them?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
No?
Speaker 1 (08:41):
I like Oh, okay, well do that. We'll do it
on the other side of the bright.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well, we'll talk some Viking football and other topics as well.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Here in the Common Man program on the fan.
Speaker 2 (08:57):

That would be the Saint Paul Ice Fishing Winter Sports Show.
(09:19):
It's December fifth through the seventh, the right rosa.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
What was that again? Does you know where River Center is?
Of course?
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Where is it?
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Paul? Where Saul? It's right near X what used to
be the X. I've been there. You've been there.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Sure we're broadcast live from there. The Outdoor Show, I've been.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
There, trust me. Okay.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
I thought you were a big outdoors guy. You like
roughing it up in cold spring. I thought for sure
you'd want to be at the ice fishing show. Don't
you like wet in the line?
Speaker 4 (09:48):
And I I went ice fishing a couple of times
up but with Amelia the very good I remember those episodes.
Those are my favorite. Going to the lake up and
walking You're going to the lake? That was a slop festival.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
In the locker door.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yeah, that was more rain, the Ielpowd festival. Yeah, Oh
my goodness, what a drunken fest that was for the weekend.
That's why Muss was up there. I used to run
in the Muss. He was one of the MC's.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
We'd be No. I don't even know what to think.
Are you telling me you're done with that? No?
Speaker 4 (10:20):
No, no, no, no, no, no do not. This is what happens. Well,
you just changed your mind on the quarterbacks I thought
you were doesn't mean I'm going taking a quantum leap
from point A to point Z. There sometimes are gray areas.
I know you don't believe in that, but that's why
I get in trouble for making comments about the Lakers
or something. But no what I go back as you know,
(10:40):
I have it right in front of me here. I'm
old school about keeping track of the game.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
I literally and actually provide those I know they do,
but not by not with my notes.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
They don't though, they just have literally played by place.
You used to have been doing it for years and years,
but it's a half of mine ever since that. You know,
we did, you know Sports Sunday on Channel four, and
I'd write down every when I'm at the game, I'd
write down every play and.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Can I have one of those one and on one of.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
You're dumb with the game giving to me what you
saying because it's it's it's like, I know, it's a
game from the legendary Mark Rows, And you know how
many people would want that?
Speaker 1 (11:15):
You could no one, you could.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
You could auction it off at a silent make hundreds, hundreds,
hundreds of dollars and what I would do.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Also, you know, star or double star if there's a
play that because when I go back and put together
the highlights that night with like Tom Ryder or the editor,
I would it would be easy for me to find
the plays that want to run during the show. Well,
I you know, it's old habits are hard to break,
and I like it keeps me in the game a
little bit as opposed to just watching it. You know,
I went back and looked at all my play by
(11:43):
play sheets, and what's concerning about the McCarthy discussion and
will continue to be in the next seven games, isn't
you know whether or not he's throwing an interception on
this particular play or I mean, in one sequence when
they're down ten to three, he missed me. They threw
that pass wide open. Howkinson questions throw anywhere near his
(12:03):
wide receiver. He missed that one. Then he threw the
interception in the end zone for Addison, and then the
one that eventually when the Bears took a thirteen to
three lead, they had Jones ran the ball. Jones ran
the ball like four in a row, had a false start.
Then he sailed the pass on a third and seven.
That's when the booze came in.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
And he'll pay ten dollars for those notes right there.
He'll pay. He'll give you ten dollars. Well, you owe
me six. I do.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yeah, because the Lions got throttled by the Eagles the
other night. Remember we made that ware.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Oh I forgot okay.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Yeah, Well, I'm sure we'll come up with another wager. No,
you know, I'm not going to sell Okay, give him
the charity. So I just wrote the word I wrote
the word ugly next to it because he was getting
boot off the field on a third and seven. Anyway,
the point of the matter is and read more today
and listening to Kosi heard him listening to your show.
Of course, so much of the discussion has been from
(12:54):
the time we went to watch biking practice a training camp.
Hasn't been when we watched Nick Mullins as an example
of the kind of a journeyman quarterback, you know, get
his opportunity to play a few games here, and he'd
have some Gaudi stats and then he'd throw some bad picks.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
But I don't.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Recall a discussion during his time when he was playing
about his mechanics, about well, Nick Mullins is, you know,
he's just he's throwing off the wrong he made some
bad decisions.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
All were hearing.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
And I saw another bit that Alec Lewis wrote, I
mean quoting Chaos and his discussion with Tom Brady before
the game about the little things that make a difference
between you know, the really good quarterbacks in this league
and the quiet feat that they play with and everything else.
Everything has been about his mechanics and Kaos has.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Over and over been talking about it.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
How he you know, it's almost like I mentioned yesterday
and Chaos even mentioned it, like you're taking a lesson
from your guy, a golf lesson, and you're just he's
just correcting one of the two things here. Now you
got to carry that lesson onto the golf course and
follow through of it.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Right.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Well, it seems as if you know that Kos's working
with with McCarthy over and over and over again, it
has been uh, in practice and other things, and then
you get in the game, you get in that third
hole and you got you know, he got a long
shot and he's not doing the things that he was taught.
And the problem the thing I'm thinking about and where
I get this kind of weariness and sort of like,
(14:23):
is that is are those correctible?
Speaker 1 (14:26):
I mean, are they? Is it?
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Reposition? Is repetition going to make that different? And this
is why we have to use these next seven games.
I know there's already rumors that you know, the bikers
looking at mac Jones.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
No, no, no, that that's that's Florio's throwing stars.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Aren't looking at anybody.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
No, they're not right now, they they they And then
those discussions when we had right.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Now, if if McCarthy in the last seven games shows
incremental process, they will not be going after mac Jones
or Aaron Rodgers or Sam.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Darnold anybody another or but not No, but yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
I don't care about the backup quarter back of quarterbacks
a meaningless position of mashing football. When you want to
get to your backup quarterback, your season is effectively old.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Well, Kirk Cousins is now the starter in Atlantic because
Penix is out for.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
The year and Atlanta's going nowhere.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
No, so but I just well, the problem is is
he's he He spent a number of years at IMG Academy.
That's where you go to learn the basics, to learn
all the technical parts of throwing about your eyes and
your hands lyning, and he apparently didn't didn't digest it
(15:39):
very well.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
There's a text message here.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
That says I've got He says, I've got a beef
with this fan base as far as JJ goes. You
know common everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody
wants to die. It's my way of saying, everybody wants
to draft a young quarterback where nobody wants to wait
for his development. This is going to take time. I'm
with Koc on this. The accuracy will come. I think
he shows a nice presence in the pocket. Maybe it's
(16:05):
best of the Vikings are out of the playoff race.
That way JJ can relax and develop the rest of
the year without pressure. And that sounds good on paper
on a text message, but there's no get There have
been many young quarterbacks who who showed a nice presence
in the pocket and we're very accurate, but they never
panned out.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
It takes there. There's an intangible there at playing quarterback
that and he might have it. But for me, what
I get weary of.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Is is the text messagers or the fan base or
members of the media that just basically say well, it's
going to happen. You just have to wait. There's no
guarantee it's going to happen. People like to I The
example everybody uses is all good was Peyton Manning in
his first year?
Speaker 1 (16:52):
How good was Josh Allen? They weren't very good.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
The point the comparison they're trying to make is maybe
they're the next Josh Allen or maybe their next Payton Many.
Maybe maybe McCarthy is the next Josh Allen or the
next Payton Many. There's a better chance though, that he's
the next Josh Freeman, or he's the next Teddy.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
What are some of the quarterbacks have been highly Marcus Russell,
Marcus Russell, Joey Harrington, Joey Herring Smith Smith.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Well, that's what I'm saying, Lance.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
There have been more quarterbacks drafted in the top ten
that have been abject failures than ones that have struggled
at the beginning and turned into Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Well,
no one, I'm I'm not what I get accused of it.
I'm not giving up by McCarthy. I'm just my biggest
beef is here's my no I'm talking. I'm talking to listeners,
My biggest problem is this team.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
This is what the this is what the.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Front the front office and the coaching and the coach
told us we're ready to compete now, we're doing a
competitive rebuild, and so they put all their eggs into
a basket for a kid that can't get his feet
and his and his eyes alighted. I think the coach
was too convinced I can turn I can turn this
kid into an effective quarterback immediately because he doesn't like quarterback.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Whisper. He said that.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
He said that in the interview on CBS or on
Fox before. I don't remember which game it was, but
they did the sit down interview with him and he said,
they said, you've been called the quarterback. Whisper says, yeah,
I don't really like that. But I think he does
feel like he's really good at coaching up kids. And
I think they thought, coming off a thirteen and four
season and adding to the interior the offensive and defensive lines,
(18:36):
I can coach this kid up and fast track him
to get us a deep playoff run.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
He was wrong. He wasn't able to do it. And
it's that's to me.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
That's at the crux of this is this well we
saw what we saw what Wade Phillip is it?
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Wade Phillips is that dark we Westfields? You saw what
he said.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
I've been saying this for weeks when people said just
give up on the season and we gotta let we
and they're not.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
We have to let we have to let McCarthy develop.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
And what Philip said, and I'm paraphrasing, he said, we
have We can't do just what's.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Right for the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
We have to do what's right for all the other
players on this team and for this organization.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
So you can't just the fans.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
That are going to be here for the next thirty
forty years can go ahead and say they'll just throw
the season away because they want to develop the quarterback.
The current guys on this team, the Justin Jeffersons, the
Blake Cashman's, the the the O'Neills, none of these guys
just want to throw away another.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Season to let it develop. It's not that's not how
it works.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
And well got me thinking about it more today was
when I heard Kao siegu and Ryan Kelly looks like
he's going to play on Sunday. Well, they have now
absolutely their their front line, their offensive line absolutely intact.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Grenard plays there.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
They got all hands on deck and this team is
not throwing in the towel. I'm not I'm making the
postseason odds are against them, but they have seven games left.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
And I don't think anyone over there.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
And this is why it's all the more important that
the quarterback can try to figure it out because they
have a team, as you said, that is playoff ready
in terms of perceadelity. Yeah, they were well without the
Without an effective quarterback, they ain't going that way.
Speaker 3 (20:17):

for the late Jim Marshall, who passed this past year.
And I'm sure Chuck is not thrilled the fact that
you're mentioning some of those names. Going Man, Chuck Foreman
was twice the ballplayer that a couple of those offensive
players you mentioned were.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
I mean it was it was O. J.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Simpson and and Chuck in the you know, basically the
same category when they were going head to head in
opposite conferences, et cetera, et cetera. But Chuck was, you know,
the spin doctor was special. I mean, I'm a little
surprising to make the cut. I mean, I would have
loved to have seen eventually get to the Hall, but
Jim's days are in terms of his ability to get
in the Hall of Fame. And I'm not going to
(22:48):
even it doesn't do any good to argue his case anymore.
It's it's just not happening. It's too bad. But life
isn't fair, So I mean, and Jim had a great life.
And I just saw his uh, his widow, his wife
Sue uh recently again, and you know, she's been kind
of getting on with her life and the life life
(23:10):
after being with the Jim for all these years and
having a wonderful life together. And I'm not saying it
was something that you know, he lost a lot of sleepover.
There was not much he could do about it. But
you know, there's you know, I think had the Vikings
won one of those Super Bowls, I think, you know,
Jim would have absolutely been in the Hall of Fame.
And you know some of his teammates certainly are and
deserve gerwardly so, and including Carl Eller and the Purple
(23:34):
People leaders and Alan Page, of course, Paul Krauss. You know,
it's just, you know, that's it. There's not much else
to say. He didn't get in there, didn't get to
the cut this time. It's not going to happen.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Tiny Joe Nelson, who used to work at this radio station.
Rights Major League Baseball has announced a three year partnership
with ESPN, NBC, and Netflix, which we'll have an impact
on how fans watched the Minnesota Twins getting next season.
According to The Athletic, ESPN will have in market rights
to six teams, including the Twins, Guardians, Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockets,
(24:08):
and Mariners. How much will it cost fans to watch
the Twins on ESPN. The amount hasn't been disclosed, but
Aaron Gleeman of Gleaman and the Geek Fame, citing a
team source, says MLB soon to b Anoun's agreement won't
change how fans can watch your broadcast in twenty twenty six,
as games will be available via the same avenues as
(24:28):
this past season, including cable, satellite, and MLBtv. Last season,
Twins games were distributed via Twins TV, which was accessible
through local cable, satellite, and streaming services, cost ninety ninety
It's cost ninety nine ninety nine for the full season,
was available at a monthly rate four.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Twenty dollars.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
According to a report from The Athletic, ESPN is considering
offering a free month to its direct to consumer app
ESPN Unlimited, which costs thirty dollars a month over the
course of a six month MLB season. That would cost
Twins fans one hundred and fifty dollars for the full
season if they're accessing games on ESPN's app.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Thought are gonna tell me they're gonna offer it to
pay fans to watch the games? Hold on, Oh no,
They're go the.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Young players are the Roy STOs is going to have
a bounce back year and be MVP candidate.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Well we made a trade. Well did you not say that?
I saw the game a relief pitcher just where the
meat wheels are now on most you're slow. It's a locomotive.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
They're just getting out of the uh, out of the
out of the roundhouse. But it says, here, hold on,
I've got the story.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Let me dial it up. Here we go, all right.
Twins added reliever Eric orz Or.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I have no idea who in a trade with the
Tampa Bay Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, their first move
of the off season addressing their bullpen, and they added
just six prospects to their forty man row. U Rebuilding
the pen will be one of the priorities for the
Twins this winter after it was torn apart at this
past season's trade deadline. Or z Orse, a twenty eight
(26:10):
year old right hander, had a three point zero two er.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
It's better than most of most of the pictures.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
In thirty three relief appearances in twenty twenty five, or
picking up three saves. He struck out forty walk nineteen
and forty one and two thirds He's a splitter, heavy pitcher.
He spent much of the second half of the season
at Triple A, where he had a two point two
OERA in twenty eight and two thirds innings. And we
gave up somebody named Jacob Kissing. I've never heard him before,
so hey, mait. Yeah, so they make a move.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
I don't know if this is going to be. You know,
the rumors persist at one of two. I mean, obviously
Lopez and Joe Ryan are the only two bona fide starters,
and that rumors continue to persist that especially Ryan would
be moved and traded for prospers.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Well, the team that again had interest before the trade
deadline last year, that apparently has interest again this year,
the Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
The Red Sox like Ryan a lot.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
And I read a case over the weekend that said,
and I don't remember where I read it, but on
a handheld computers to remember what what what what what website?
It was a news outlet. They said that the Red
Sox are still very interested in Joe Ryan.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
I and you know whether or not Buxton is going
to go forward with his you know again he I
don't think you've heard it from his lips that he
would potentially waive his trade cause that would allow the
Twins to move him. That would be I mean, box
office suicide if they did that, not that they are
not already there in terms of how you sell this team.
(27:41):
And you know, I looked at I saw I think
Royce Lewis was on some Baseball America show or something,
and they had the potential lineup for the Twins this
year on there. You know, you recognize most of the
names that are out there and that are still on
the team but on an everyday basis, But that doesn't
include a pitching staff that you know, Lopez and Ryan
are you know, good enough to kind of carry them
(28:01):
through a couple of them and if Bailey over is
able to bounce back. But man, I don't know what
they have in the bullpen besides this guy they just acquired,
I mean too. And that's where the games oftener as
we know, or won and lost in the course of
even one hundred and sixty two games, is what happens
in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. And I don't know,
there's not much to rally around when you look at
(28:24):
the state of this franchise and understanding it.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
We don't even know what their payroll is going to
be yet. They've been so quiet over every want an
update on them. How much they've spent in for agency
so far?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yes, the Minnesota Twins free agency spending splurs total is.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Zero zero, Right, They're good. That's what really shows a trade.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Common Now that we know Jim Marshall's fate and will
not be in the Hall of Fame, well Mark Rosen
commit himself to not resting until the common Man it's
the Minnesota Radio Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
I've kind of could we do that? I mean, would
would you? Let's just say, would you would? Would you?
Would you take that torch and push for me to
get into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
I am ce rationally amc the Broadcasting Hall of Fame
induction ceremony's still water where lu Nani went in there
and Terry Train went in there, and so I was
happy to do it. And let's just say I planted
a few seeds over there with the nominating committee, but
they didn't grow very far.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
But I'll just leave it at that.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
So Louis did the State Highschollo Hockey Tournament for how
many years. So I say forty and so forty and
how many games in each year?
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Five more?
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Well, he did more than that. I think he would
do all the double A that's double a's eight. That's seven, okay,
so seven, let's just say seven. Ye, so seven times forty.
So he did two hundred and eighty games, which in
each game lasts about.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
How long a couple hours whatever? Hour? Forty yeah, two hours,
two and a half. Yeah, and they went to overtime.
So he got into Hall of Fame, right.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Doing hockey for a grand total of what would equal
up to be about a week of radio airtime.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
And I've been on the here for forty years. I
always love that life isn't fair, and I.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Think Louis should be in it. I'm not I'm not
saying that Louis doesn't deserve it.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
But right, that's all right. Well, I'm okay with it.
I'm working on it. I'm sure you are. You're not.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Well, hopefully HOPEFU hopefully work a little harder than you
need to get Jim Marshlings.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
That didn't work. Oh, they didn't listen to me over there.
That was full. Nick Foles was a backup quarterback and
he won a big game.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Yeah, I know, I know. I said it ninety nine
percent of the time. Though, once you get to an
active quarterback, it doesn't matter. It's just really your team
is going nowhere. If you don't have your starting quarterback,
you're in.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yeah, I mean for everything.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
There are very few teams in the history of NFL
that had Joe Montana and Steve Young to future Hall
of famers on the same team. And the Vikings beat
them in eighty seven.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
All the Colts had Johnny Uniteds and Jimmy Morrile, and
they went to a big Earl Moral and they went
to a big game.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Earl started the game because I think Johnny got hurt
early in the year. Earl came in and was brilliant,
so Earl kept quarterbacking.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
But then Earl struggled against the Jets and Super Bowl three,
and then Johnny Uniteds came in and he guided the
Colts so that they're only Tuddy in that fame.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
They lost sixteen to seven.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
So yeah, it does happen, but it just doesn't happen
that often. Plus they lost that big game they did.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Yeah, I mean again, there's you know who the Jets
backup quarterback was Babe.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
PERELLI is exactly why my favorite backup quarterback of all time.
It's like saying Babe Perella, of course I knew. Oh
can you not like Willie Joe the time? That was wild?
Play tonight late there's six one.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
And one yet they're an underdog tonight, but they're playing
the six one on one in their last you know,
eight games. They having a great to start to November,
but they're playing the Carolina Panthers. And the Panthers again,
they're Atlanta Panthers, all right, Hurricanes, and they're on the
top of the uh right. I didn't even know there
was a Metropolitan Division, but that's what they call it.
They're on the top of the Metropolitan. So here's a
(32:14):
big test. Can we keep the streak going against a
really good team over at they're playing the Kid.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
The Night and Gold.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
We know yet I don't think i've seen any updates
on it's playing goal like tonight.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's been a nice start to
this month, that's for sure. Her the while or what
nine seven and four now, I mean overall it gets
twenty two points, but they've been playing uh you know,
pretty tight hockey and and uh taking advantage of them
and Caprice Soff got that overtime or Hurricanes are thirteen
and five. Yeah, and again it's and we already we
(32:47):
know that, we know the picture. We know why because
they're on TNT tonight and they won't a thirty eight
forty start and.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Middle of the week. It's an outrage, is what it is.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
It's it's pretty outrage we unders in the playoff situation
for you know, both sports.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
But it's I think it's done in the playoffs too,
but it is.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
But especially when you're if you're not you're not playing
a West Coast team, it's you know, in a while,
it still got a ways to go, but they're they're
they're hanging. You know, there are two points behind Winnipeg
and the black Hawks. The black Hawks are playing pretty well,
aren't they For a team that was in the bottom
of the barrel for a while.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Connor Badard he was gone.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
There was an absolute phenom coming out of the draft
and he's starting to figure it out now. See, just
like JJ McCarthy, the young kids are starting to take over.
Celebrat they are in San Jose, Badard in Chicago.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Well, we got an older guy, but he's also starting
to take over at least for the wild earning his
paycheck as they say.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I see where your gal. Jesse Diggins is retiring.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
By the way, according to Kevin Falness, he just texted that, Yeah,
are you listening.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
You know, he's always listening after.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
Jesse Diggins, the most decorated American cross country skier in history,
announced on social this morning this will be her final
season in ski racing.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
She's thirty four years old.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
She's won three Olympic medals, three overall World Cup titles,
and eight medals at the World Championships in her career.
Could you say she's the greatest athlete ever in.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
The history of Minnesota. That's a statement. I mean, that's
pretty pretty damn good. She's not going to compete in
this in the Olympics coming up there. This is after
the Olympics. Okay, well, I mean she had helped run I'm.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Guessing she's the greatest American cross cross country skiing ever
skier ever.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
That Yeah, Now, what goes without saying. I thought other
than Eddie the Eagle, No, he was a ski jumper.
He was a ski jumper. He really wasn't very good. Yeah,
I think I covered. I was.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
I was in Calgary when I actually covered the Olympics
in nineteen eighty eight. I think that was Eddie the Eagle,
that was they made a movie about him.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Well, I'm being serious about this question. She the greatest
stathlete ever in Minnesota history.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Every everybody the Olympic medals, overall World Cup titles and
eight medals at the World champions Everybody has.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Her own criteria for the greatest. You know, whatever the
Mount rushmore of this or whatever the case may mean.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Another Minnesota that's got better.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
That's that is that is more accolades than that Bronco
to Girsky, Yeah, I guess Bronco did win three times.
And George Yeah, I guess George Miken did. But those
are all team sports too.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Yeah, I understand that. If you're talking about individual Yeah,
there's I mean, if you look at I want to
what Lindsay Vaughn compare, you'd have to throw her numbers
out at me.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Yeah, I think Jesse has number She did have big numbers,
so she I she continued to think.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
I mean I have to see, like how many Olympic
medals and this and that thing. I don't I don't
have all this.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I won the Uh, I want a blue ribbon sixth
grade Adams School Track and Field.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Well, UH for the sack race.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
That should give you some recognition. I can't argue with
that accomplishment. First play sixth grade.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Lindsay Vonn won four World Cup overall championships. She won
the gold medal in downhill at the twenty ten Winter Limics,
the first one for an American woman. She also won
a record eight World Cup season titles in downhill discipline,
amazing five titles and super G three consecutive titles in
the combined.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Maybe she's the greatest athlete in Minnesota. Athlete ever? How
many a w as?
Speaker 3 (36:30):
He tell us anyway, A lot of guys that he
put to sleep at the sleeper hole, A lot a
lot of guys went ninety night.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
He demonstrated on that. Yeah, I went, you're still and
you're still just between two and three.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
No Verd was one of a kind. He was love
love that man. Trying to think, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Don't know those two guys, your guy John Schuster, did
I see they No, they're not They got beat by
the team from Prior Lake.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Yeah, they lost to a Team Casper and it went
right down to the wire. Apparently the two teams stayed.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
They rented houses and stayed side by side and spend
time commisserating at night.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
I thought just sposed to hate the enemy. It's competitive
to a point. Yeah, I guess. But they trained. They
trained with each other year round. I'm assuming so they so.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Yeah, but uh uh tend to be an I we've
hitched our wagon to Team Peterson and they are going
out of that last stop to see if they can
get to the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
There's one more stop.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Matter of fact, I don't even know for sure if
I unless I just I got to have been on
a fants close attention to curling as I once did.
But I still think this Team Casper needs one more
They got to take one more step before.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
They get to the Olympics. Okay, I don't think it's
quite set in stone yet.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
The NHL is shutting up for how long ten during
the for the Olympics, two three weeks something like that.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Yeah, anybody together and the rest of the fortunately.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
Uh Sylvie Union is not participating, So no caprice of nope, right,
none of these compods rays Wevechkin.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
That's too bad.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Best individual Minnesota has to be Marjorie Johnson. She won
over twenty five hundred state fair ribbons. She did for
bacon pies or I guess I think is that the
woman I must.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Be twenty five hundred. I want one rocker to even
make win that many. No, and she was off a rocker.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Marcherie. I actually have hurt that name. Oh you get
some great listeners. That's funny.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, anyway, it's neither here nor there, that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Uh. I think I'm gonna watch women's basketball today. I've
not given him a shot yet. They played women's go first.
Kansas Rock Chock Kansas Jayhawk Rock Talk Rockshalk Chalk Rock
whatever it.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Is, whatever it is, yeahs there probably yeah, oh yeah radio.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Well, he spent a little time, uh taking a look
at the artwork at the Maniap International Airport.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Or it's just like a louver. No, it's it's time.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
It's his legendary as as the loop is the louver
or louver, it's like it as they've got van Dogs,
Illinoyer's and monas hanging all over.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
The walls over the place, and he got a great
parking spot too there lives at the airport.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
You know what you could do is you could actually
you could take your free you could get into your
parking spot, and then you could steal the artwork off
the walls like they did at the Louver and throw
it into.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Your trunk your car. It didn't work out real well
for them, No, it did not Rock Chock, Jayhawk or rock.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
He's got a church with the Bahamas coming up soon
because they're they're they're playing the Mohammas again.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Every year they're playing the Bahamas. It's good to be
the playbook play Yeah, good played by play. Yeah, that's
that's better than I mean, what would you rather do?
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Go to the Bahamas and call the girls games or
go to Green Bay and call the football I'd rather.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Uh uh regularly feel for the Gopher football team. We'll
see you tomorrow, right, yeah, well you'll be in a
