A couple of thirteen fourteen pass common Man program ont
comics tennebi Mark Rosen here as well. Your Minnesota Timberwolves
lose to the Memphis Grizzly last night. Don't remember the
exact score, one sixteen to one ten, one sixteen, one ten,
(00:39):
And after reading the Gamer last night after the game
was over.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
I just thought it was an improvement.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well because when I didn't see any quotes of we
weren't trying, we don't want to play these games, blah
blah blah. So I thought, hey, which is a bad
shooting night. I can accept a bad shooting when you
know a team just off it just doesn't work. I
don't like when they say, well, we didn't put in
the effort, the other team tried harder than we do,
which we hear from the Minnesota Timberwolves over and over
and over again. But then I read an analysis piece
(01:15):
from Chris Hine and the head coach is beside himself.
In Wednesday's game, they lost thanks to what coach Chris
Finch called a horrendous night Offensively, were they shot forty
percent from the field thirty percent from three point range,
with the team lamenting some of its decision making, the
(01:35):
choices to attack former DP Player of the Year Jaron
Jackson Junior inside multiple times down the stretch. The Wolves
learned their lessons in this one a little too late.
Finch said, our offensive decision making was awful, from shot
selection to turnovers to execution was just not very good.
The Wolves committed seventeen turnovers and he only started to
(01:58):
shoot about fifty percent. Rudy Gobert Uh Devincenzo said, it's
less about making or missing shot. It's more about just
trying to play the speed, play with the pace and
make quick decisions.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
We could have been better at that.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
You make a couple of shots, it's a different it's
a different game.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Finch admitted they were bored to start the season.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
While that could be human nature, coming off back to
back Western Conference Final appearances, you wouldn't help but think
while watching those other teams recently, they were talking about
how they just haven't kept pace with the other really
good teams in the West. Right, that the Wolves hadn't
played games like that since last postseason. And that's what
you know we talked about, you know, board, the team
that should be bored be the Oklahoma City thunder Right,
(02:39):
Well we won a world championship. Right, You would think
that the Lakers would be bored, Houston would be bored,
San Antonio be. But those teams aren't board. They try
real hard. Maybe you can make Hyden, did you watch the.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Game of the GA I watched the game, and yeah,
I mean it was the shooting, was the shots selection.
They hadn't still had a nine point leaving. It can't
be well just because Aunt was out again because missing
they were missing four players, Yeah they were, and they
you know, they had some guys coming off the bench
that that played awfully well for them, and they there
(03:11):
their effort was to be applauded. The problem I see
with this Timbrols team going forward, even though they're seventeen
and ten, is that guys who were counting on even
like last night, I mean, Memphis had role players that
they had come off the bench and filled in some
roles and did did a really nice job. The Wolves
did not, and one of the you know, one of
their starters, get I know the reason he was starting
(03:33):
is Aunt was out with the foot injury again Bones Island.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
He's not a starting guard. He just isn't.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
He gives you a little splash here and there. But
the problem is you get three of those guys right
now that they can't count on Highland starting. I mean,
Conley's still out and he's you know, he's a part
time player right now. Tarren Shann has been disappointing. He
has you know, moments and that's it. Rob Dillingham is
pretty much invisible, a guy that they thought would be
(04:01):
getting better, appreciably better by now, And so you get
stuck it in a rut. And you know, I heard
Johnny Athletic on earlier today and he was talking about
Jade McDaniels. You can't have him just shooting, you know,
eleven times. He's got to get him more involved in
this offense. And so I still think that, and I
(04:22):
know for a fact they're looking for a guard and
one guy that I you probably haven't heard his name mentioned,
and I'll throw his name out there. I don't know
how easy it's going to be to wrangle him from Phoenix.
But there's a guard named Colin Gillespie.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Ah, I love him, Jamim remember since he played for
Boston College.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
He was at Villanova. That's okay, but he's a he's
a very good guard. He's twenty six. He fits the
bill what Minnesota wants he to get. But the problem
is he's playing a lot better right now, and I'm
not sure Phoenix wants. You know, they're competing against the Wolves.
But he's the type of player. He's that kind of guy.
We're hearing a lot about other players in the league,
and that's that's fine, but he's the type of player
(05:01):
the Wolves are need of, desperate need of right now.
And I you know, when Ann comes back, yeah, of
course he's gonna he'll probably play tomorrow night against Okay. See,
and they got they got it. You know, their schedule
now gets tougher. They got Milwaukee here on Sunday and
then you know, their record isn't great, but they got
they got talent, and then they got the Knicks here
on Tuesday night and this is so that's their three
(05:22):
games stretch. Maybe they'll they'll rise to the occasion. And
obviously Ant will get back, but they're still. Man, it
was a sconge after that three game.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
What do they have after that? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
I had to look up, I have to look I don't.
I don't know, honestly, I haven't looked that far ahead.
But it was, Yeah, it was. They had the lead
and they should have closed them out and they just
you know, Nos couldn't hit a shot to save his life.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
And is it possible they're just not as good as
they were the last two?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Yes, yes, it is possible, Yes it is. I mean,
I know it's still you know, they're under the pacern
and everything. They're they're a good team, but they're until
they can start, you know, beating the better teams. And
maybe it'll start this weekend. You know, they can't obviously
you lose Anstin on the on the floor. He would
(06:07):
have taken the game over last night. I mean, I'm
sure he would.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Lost job Iran towards Zach Edy did if they were
on the floor, if they were well.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
John Moran hasn't been playing very well even when he
has been playing, but you know, and Edie's you know,
a big force, but he you know, Golbert, you know,
matches up with him.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
But it's it's mostly.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
These other role players that That's what I'm saying, is
that they're aware, but they know, I mean, and off
he lost it with the officials late in the game.
He was mad at his team. Yeah, he was f
bombing the official left and right. I think he was
begging to get kicked out of the game.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
The game was lost by that. You want to watch
that stuff?
Speaker 4 (06:41):
No, I mean, I don't think he said I want
to I want to get out of here. And he
was mad at his team, but he was, I mean,
really losing it with this official.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
And I don't know why.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I can't believe the official didn't team him up once
Sheill knew he didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Want to be there, and he said he that early
watching this un to point.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Uh So, yeah, I was disappointing in that context. They
had they had the lead, and Memphis isn't a great
team and up by far, uh and they were missing
a bunch of people and they just did not and
they had some guy that came off the bench and
hit four threes and you know, it just is one
of those nights. And it's unfortunately they happened too often.
But a bigger picture is where's the help. I mean,
(07:22):
where's the help coming from if you're if you're looking
at those three players I mentioned, if your big guns
don't come through, those guys have that opportunity. They're they're
getting playing time right now. You got to play better
and they're not there, you go, so go get Connor Gillespie.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Or how about I heard the kids is going to
reacquaint himself with the Wolves. Maybe he can play too.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Is how old is he? Could he still play? Do
you think well? I could do the uh the Philip
Rivers bid? How old is he? I'll look him up
right now.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I mean I know he's not a point guard, but no,
he's we could use the help somewhere.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
AG's forty nine in Philip rims. That's probably not going
to work.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
So he's he's so he's going to like become the
official one official ambassador from Minnesota TIMBERWLF basketball.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
I would there. That sounds about right.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
I mean, it's it's interesting that he's going to be
doing in theory a lot of you know, the off
the court stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
What that means I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
I mean, eventually he'll have his number up in the
Rafters and everyone's kind of been waiting for that moment.
I don't think it's going to happen this year, but
we don't know that yet. But yeah, he'll be I
mean the fact that Laurie and uh A Rod got
him kind of signed up. They talked to his agents
and how how much time he's going to spend here
in what capacity. But I find it hard to believe
that Kevin's not going to want to have, you know,
(08:41):
have some say in that you know, personnel. He did
what he was playing here too much at times, too
much saying in in UH and player personnel and silent.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
His role has been spelled out and he's not going
to be beyond that. He I think he is not
the GM I I you know, I I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
People are very I mean longtime Wolves fans. Obviously he's
the franchise and he's his heart still here and so
from a PR standpoint, yeah, we'll see how it all
kind of gets rolled out by the Timberwolves and what
his responsibilities are going to be. But yeah, he's He's
back with the minnesot Timberwlves organization.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
We'll take a break, come back more to get to
another a couple of segments. I'm common, he's tend to
be in the legendary Mark Rosen here on a Fursday
afternoon of the fan.

holiday season.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Couple thirteen fourteenth Pastime Comedy's Tennabe Mark Rosen here as well.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
My sources at Scoop City. Uh huh uh it's called
Space City. Scoop familiar with it? I heard of it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I think they say Houston is going to make a
real push for Gillespie.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Well, I'm not surprised, and so I'm not too far
off in terms of his people wanting him. I mean,
it's God, it's not gonna be easy, like I said,
to pry him out of there. I'm just saying, that's
a name that that's definitely bouncing around the timbers.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Sixty's helping Power Forward do we have anybody we could
trade that it's that.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Meal, Yeah, Jade McDaniel. They're not going to trade.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
No, No, they're not Randall. He's not a power forward, no,
but he's a forward. But I mean Randall's kind of
a tweener when Nas red, Yeah, I don't think that
that would not.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Be getting gillspie space city skill.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Well, Nas Reid and and I think you'd probably have
to give up one of those young players, as you know,
the young players.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
So would you say was interested in him? Uh?
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Houston Houston. Yeah, Well it shold you that the kid's good. Yeah,
he's he's he's flying under the radar. But he's a
guy that management. Uh, they're they're taking a hard look at.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Headline says Rockets could find a shocking roster upgrade from
a familiar trade partner if Gillespie somehow becomes available. Yeah,
that's the Rockets may have found their upgraded point guard.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Well that's the bit there in lies the battle. But
maybe this should Billy Garan take care of it. Maybe
he'll get he could get it done.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Now.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Gillsbie is having a breakout season. He is averaging thirteen
point one points a game, three point eight boards, four
point eight assists, shooting forty two point six from three
point range.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Just what the doctor ordered his first twenty five games.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Frankly, given the way they have played the season, the
Suns have little reason.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
To part with them as of now to trade one
of those standout players.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Yet the Rockets likely I have a package that could
entice them to do so.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah, it could ultimately.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Make all the difference of their offensive versatility as this
season wears on.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Yeah, that's the problem. It's gonna be competition, there always is.
But Comley it's gotten things done before. I mean, he's
not afraid to shake the tree. We've seen that with
the gold Bear trade in particular. So we got a
waste to go yet for the deadlines.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Well, if I'm Garrett, if I'm Garrett, if I'm Conny, first,
I'd like to see this team actually like try to
win these games, you know, like actually, you know, as
An said, it doesn't seem like we even want to
play these games. I would want my team to show
me that they really do want to play these games,
that they're going to play defense, start to finish, pretendly
you met it, at least give the effort that the
(12:49):
that a team like oh Glaoma City, for instance, because
and then I would be willing to make a trade. Otherwise,
why would I trade to help you out when you're
you guys are just playing bad basketball.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Well, I mean they're seventeen and ten, so they're not
They're not ten and seventeen. They're not a terrible team.
They're just you and Okay, see as a unicorn, I
mean they're they're a team that comes around every I
don't know how many years, and they're you know, we'll
see if they can maintain that. I mean they're they
probably they might. I mean they might a unicorn. I
mean they are special team. But there's a whole bunch
(13:22):
of other teams that aren't. And that's the thing is interesting.
I was looking at the schedule tonight between this is
where we are between the NHL and the NBA. Even
tho I Barkley said it was not a year ago
or two years ago. When he talked about, you know,
I'm in the Stanley Cup finals. He was rippling like,
I'd rather watch the Stanley Cup playoffs than than the NBA.
I mean some of these matchups that you get, you know,
(13:43):
like tonight in the NHL, you can look at pretty
much any of those games and say, we're all good.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Who's favored?
Speaker 4 (13:48):
I mean, the while they're playing at Columbus tonight, you know,
then they got Everton, Colorado, and Nashville here next week
early next week before they have to get out of
town for the junior hockey tournament. But all of the matchups,
you go, I don't I don't know. I mean, they're
all pretty pretty even. In the NBA, not quite so much,
although there's you got in the Oklahoma City's fifteen and
(14:08):
a half point favorite over the Clippers, San Antonio's big
favorites over Washington. There's some really loudy teams. But for
the most part, you have you have too many of
those games. Uh, in the league where the fighting line
between teams that you know they are going to be
playoff teams are already pretty much set. It's just a
matter of what the batting order is going to be.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Yep. Yeah, So it's kind of what the thing has
come to. Well, it has in a lot of ways.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
It's a and and that's why, well, I mean, I
I give credit.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
I mean that's right.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
I mean, honestly, you talk about effort and everything, and
I you know, I was irritated watching the Wolves try
to make a three point shot last night. But you know,
I kudos to Memphis. I mean, they have a bunch
of guys that were scrappy and they were playing hard
last night, and they were they were. They're two games
under five hundred, and I think they still feel they
could be a playoff team with the bodies back.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Memphis.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yeah, they looked like they were going to be that
Oklahoma City team for a couple of years ago and
job was going and I don't know what's gonna happen
with his career right now, but yeah, they played hard
last night.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
They deserved they deserved the victory.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
So I'm you know me uh tenneby list radio is what.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Radio? It is lazy radio. We're the kings of lazy radio.
Here and I found another one of those lists. I
love them. It's hold on. That's not the list.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
They got several lists that I want to get to do.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Here.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
It is NFL QB Pop Power rankings. They say, CBS
Sports says Matt Stafford is the best quarterback in the
National Football League. Would you guys agree right now as
we speak, I mean, not all you know.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
I mean, if you were going to make a draft
of quarterbacks for.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
This season, yeah, yeah, because I was gonna say, you know,
healthy pat Mahomes, you'd probably take. But they've got Matt
Stafford at one, Drake May at number two, Josh Allen
at number three.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Sounds about right. It sounds about right.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Yeah, based on the success of the Patriots. But I
still think I would, you know, and Drake May's obviously younger,
but in.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Well, I think they're just doing right now and that
makes sense. Sure, I understand the.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Guy that you think Green Bay fans like for now.
Jordan Love is ranked number four, now am I? The
only one is do people not here locally not think
it's highly of him because he wears green and gold.
If he played for the Vikings, what would we think
about Jordan Love? We would think, pardon the pun, we
would love him and think he's the best quarterback in football.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
We would absolutely be head over heels with him.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
But he plays for Green Bay, so it's hard for
Viking fans. They'd begrudgingly say he's okay, but they don't
want to say, well, he.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Really really, that's our surprise. You took the Bears over
the Packers in spread swing. I thought you'd picked green
Bay because green Bay owns Chicago.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Remember, going back to a rog.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
I don't know why you picked him, because just because
they the Twins lost eighteen postseason games in a row lost.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
I thought you were more of a Jordan love fan
than they. It's more than just quarterback. Well, I understand that,
but they're.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Playing at Chicago Chicago was David Tennant b gave you
the numbers offensively what they do, that's that's a good
football team.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I just think it's it's a pick them game.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
It is.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
I would take no Jordan. Jordan's very good.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
He's still Zach Zach dak Now, Zach dak Prescott at
number five, Golf at number six, and Sam Darnold who
had nightmares last night and couldn't sleep.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
He's ranked as the seventh best quarterback in.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
The National Football League right now as we speak, Herbert
at eight, Stroud at nine, and Lamar Jackson at ten.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Well bow Knicks has led Denver to how many wins
in a row? And there he's not even mentioned.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
They got Caleb Williams at eleven. They light the way
Caleb's playing, Sir All right now. Aaron Rodger A Rodge
at twelve, come on ahead of Knicks. Yes, Burrow at thirteen.
Barrow hasn't been playing.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
He's probably at fourteen, Trev Lawrence at fifteen, Bake Mayfield
at sixteen, Jalen Hurts at seventeen, bow Knicks at eighteen
a twelve and two.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Team and he's eighteen. Yep, that's a display.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
He doesn't throw the ball over ten yards, doesn't matter.
He's a leader. He knows how to win in the
fourth quarter. That's what he's been doing time and time again.
Makes the big throw. I mean, that's if you want
to gauge, you just on stats at this like these
people are doing or whatever it is. That's fine, but
you got to look at the results. I mean, it's
not about well, here's statistics.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Bownicks had one of the best games of his career
in Denver's win against depleted Green Bay, who lost Michael
Parsons in the third quarter. Nicks threw for three to
Zho three four tunnies twenty three at thirty four. Is
managed the Broncos store at the e FC's top overall seat,
which comes in the first round by who is I
don't even know how to say the new orl the
Saints guy show shot. It's like shuck shotback shucks.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
They've got him higher than our guy. McArthur.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Yeah, I mean that's Dart at twenty young at twenty one,
Kirk Cousins hold the Mighty have fallen twenty third, best.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Quarter past last week, Kobe.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Brissett at twenty three, cam Ward at twenty four, Marcus
Mariota at twenty five, and then finally JJ McCarthy at
twenty six.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
It says McCarthy has found some.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Success throwing six passing tuddies who just won interception against
two of the NFL's worst defenses in Washington and Dallas
the last two games. However, he still has a long
way to go, as he ranks dead last in the
NFL in completion percentage fifty six point eight, td to
interception ratio eleven to eleven, and passer rating seventy two
(19:49):
point one this season among thirty two qualified quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
He's got a ways to go. But the first carter
make out.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
That list, wondering, I think I think McCarthy's about Rashi
twenty six.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
No, No, he did me. I like the way you
go yeah right now. Yeah, that's the proving.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I know when I asked you about Jordan Love and
he said, I said green by fans probably like me.
You go, well right now, In other words, you thought
Love was going to take a step.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Back or you hold up, I did not.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Then he's a He's a damn good quarter But would
you rather have Lover MacCarthy right now?
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Jordan Love? Well, no, just I don't know how to
starting a franchise today. You can draft either.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
One of them, probably Jordan Love probably probably yeah, no, yeah,
do you take him or do you know?
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yeah? I would you would? Okay, Sure, I take McCarthy.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I don't help say that. He's got that quarterback whisper.
He's only twenty two years old. He's been showing some
of her. You've turned on McCarthy. He's turned on McCarthy
ting to be I.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Said, MacArthur, you're going to say the car and tell
you to say that.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
She would she have said that to you. We'll take
our final break.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
We got some handicapping, We got some big games going,
including the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I mean, I know we did spread swing. We just
talked about some of the other games that are taking place.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Including tonight's game between Seattle and the Rams.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
We'll do that after this. You're in the Common Man
program on the panel.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Crying as up. But shaking is dangerous. If you're overwhelmed,

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Thirteen fourteen pastime comedies tend to be the legendary Mark
Rose and hear his last segment of the week. I
you know, I was thinking back to last week and
there were a half a dozen really good matchups at
least I don't know if they all ended up close
games or whatever the case may be, but I mean
they were games that were two quality teams.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Matched up against each other that had plenty at stake.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Not as many of those games this week, but maybe
the most important would be tonight Rams at Seahawks and.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Will last both of you?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Do you think that the NFC Championship game this upcoming
January will involve one of these two teams? Or do
you think maybe there's others? I know, San frusis scorcial.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
You you think it would be the Rams? Yep, they
have to be the favorite right now.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
I'm not discounting what the Eagles are still capable of
I know they've been stubbing their toe here and there,
and they don't look like they're, you know, the powerhouse
they were a year ago. But you know that's still
They're still a tough out. As they say, I don't
you know, the South, I don't think Tampa Can Carolina
are gonna you know, they're gonna be fun to watch,
but I don't see either one of those teams doing
(23:04):
much of the postseason. And it comes back to the
MC North. I mean, which of those teams are gonna well,
the Bears, the Packers, and potentially the Lions. Which team
will offer up that kind of a challenge in the
postseason them?
Speaker 3 (23:16):
And that's the other game Packers that Bears, Yeah, tend
to be Saturday Night picked.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
The Bears in that in spread swing.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
I think with Parsons gone, did they not did they
also lose a receiver? Didn't they lose they lost a
couple three players about a three to four minute stretch.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
There's always Christian Watson and I think got hurt, but
I think he came back.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
He's okay. Yeah. I really don't think you can.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Minimize the effect that not having Michael Parsons. I mean,
he's that good and he you know, even if he
doesn't get the sack or doesn't get the pressure, just
because he attracts so much attention, somebody else generally can
that certainly is going to affect that team.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
And I do like the Bears. I mean why I
don't like the.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Bears meaning I like the Bears like I'm a Bears fan.
I just mean, what Johnson has done with the office
tend to be nailed it. They rebuilt the middle of
that offensive line and it is as quality as it gets.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
And their defense is good.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
They've got they have good skill position players, and Williams
is getting.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Better as as each week goes by.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I mean, that was an awful pass he threw in
the last play of the game when the Bears are
trying to tie the game, and he just didn't get
enough an errander because I was open back there, he
had some room. But I still like the Bears at
home in this game.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
I think.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
So there's there's so many different ways this think can go.
And and your Lions are still lurking, and you can't,
you know, look at that team and say, well, you know,
they don't have a chance.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Of course they do, but well they need some things
to get out.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
In what I've been able.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
To to to gather to Garner to figure out is
they obviously have to go three and oh, and then
they need the Packers or the Bears to go one
and two and and and it's it's certainly possible. Let's say,
for instance, Chicago's playing Green Bay at home, but then
Chicago has I guess San Francisco, is that right?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
I think they have San Francisco on their schedule. The
lines the last game and the lines the last game.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
So if the Bears were to lose one of the
one of the next two, they go one and one.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Let's say in the in the next two games, you know,
beat the Packers loose to schedule.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yeah they forty nine ers, right, Packers that at San
fran and then home Detroit.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
So let's say the.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Bears split their next two games against Green Band San Francisco.
If Detroit wins both those, that's tough. I mean, Pittsburgh
at home, you think they'd win. But play in Minnesota,
I think the Vikings could beat them.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
But if Detroit goes to.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
And zero and the and the Bears go one and one,
that last game of the season, will be for the
last playoff spot between Detroit.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
And greens it's at Chicago. Yeah, you know they do it, right,
I mean they do. You want to have those kinds
of mesa do that well, they always do.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
They always have Division Division rifles playing the last week
at the season. But the way it plays out now,
same thing with green Bay in their schedule tennebe They've
got the Ravens next week.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
I think they do, yes.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
But that's at Lambeau if I'm not mistaken. But again,
if they were to lose that at home to Baltimore,
if they were to lose to Chicago and then it's
Ravens in Minnesota. If if the Lions go three on
either of those teams go one and two, if I
if I understand it correctly, Detroit's in.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
So it's possible.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
I guess is a Lions fan, you're chairing for green
Bay in this game just because you get Chicago a chance?
Absolutely or as you still need help right with green Bay?
Speaker 3 (26:33):
And and I know I will tell you because I've
watched them of Lions football. I know they're capable of
winning all three of these games. But they're also capable
of lose. This just the way they are because offensively,
they can still put points on the board. Even with
Laporta gone, some of their offensive players gone, they can
still put points upon the board. The problem is they
(26:54):
just can't stop Aye. That's what happened against the Rams.
They could not stop the Rams at all, and then
they just got out. So they get those high scoring games.
But I could see them. But that's that's their that's
their best way in.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Well, this is why it's so tough.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
You know, you got to you got to have the
right mindset, you know, from the time you gather in
the meeting rooms to game day and and then you
have to get just getting into the playoffs, that's all
we're discussing right now. And then then they got to run,
you know, maybe win three games to get to the
big game, and you have to go on the road
in all likelihood. That's why you know, tonight's game between
(27:28):
the Rams and Seattle is so huge. In San Francisco
is still lurking only a game back with all the
injuries they've had. So you know, the one thing again,
we'll talk about it when it comes to fruition, but
Tampa Bay or Carolina will have whatever kind of you know,
close to a five hundred record, and because the winner
of that division will get a home game for the
for the playoffs, and that doesn't guarantee anything, but it's
(27:51):
certainly not a disadvantage. If you're going to play you know, uh,
a Philadelphia team or something like that, you're rather you
obviously want to play them in Carolina or Tampa, then
you do.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
It's gonna be like whoever between the Seattle and the
Rams one of those who was going on the road.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Yeah, that a division winner. Yeah, that's correct, that's.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Jaguars Broncos plays correct, Yeah, Jags on top of the
division only game up on the Texans. Broncos lead the
Chargers by a couple That's another good game, Broncos Jaguars.
I mean it should be is on paper because of
the two teams and the Texans. They won again last week, right,
is that correct?
Speaker 1 (28:28):
That right? Yes?
Speaker 3 (28:28):
So they've won is it six of seven? They started
out the season six seven. I think they started out the.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Season zero three.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
I thought their defense is just so good. Yeah, that's
that's a defense that can get you to the big game.
There's there's one six in a row, right, nine and five,
they could still and they're gonna they're gonna romp over
Las Vegas that was attempted to take them and spreads way.
They're thirteen and a half when Vegas has mailed it
in as we saw last week and the games in Houston,
(28:56):
so they'll probably shut them out again. The way that
defense plays, so that that's a that's that's a that's
my that's it could be seeing my sleeper team. That's
a sleeper team to keep an eye on, I think
in the postseason because that defense, someone's gonna have to
beat that defense, uh in January, and I ain't gonna
be easy.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
They're they're really fun to watch, and.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Then you are soon to be big game world champion
Minnesota Vikings on the road to take on New York
Football Giants.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Your thoughts, well, I mean it's I think that the
Vikings are self motivated, you know, in hearing all the
right things from koc and and because of the quarterback situation,
you can't ignore it that you know you don't want
to see the kid take a step back and that
he needs to just keep improving. That sounds so weird
(29:44):
to say the fundamentals, but he has to just take
what he did last week and just improve on it again.
There's plenty of room for improvement. But I think you know,
the true test and you know, they they should beat
the Giants, but you know, coming back again, it's too
highly motivated probably in all likelihood motivated NFC North teams
(30:05):
at home against the Try on Christmas Day next next
Thursday afternoon, and uh then the Packers. I think we're
on January fourth. That's that's what you want to see
with the kid is that throw them in those situations
and so yeah, I think there's enough motivation. I don't
think the Vikings aren't packing it in like some of
these other teams potentially are.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
They want to win.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
They don't care what draft picks right now, and they
certainly the players don't. They they're fighting for jobs, and
you know, I don't know if it's going to be
a romp. I think the Giants are pesky enough they
can make a game of it. But I think the
Vikings first, oh yeah, well the Vikings aren't. They're losing record,
they're not any good. Well, they're better in their jobs.
I mean they should be, but they you know, it's
just nice to see what they did it you know
(30:47):
what they did against Washington, I mean was I guess
what I'm saying is I don't expect them to win
thirty to nothing.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I think I think the difference is going to be
I think I think maybe statistically they're not, but I
I think b flows defenses better than whatever.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
The Giants have to offer.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Was and I just think that the the Giants will
have more trouble scoring. As long as McCarthy doesn't take
two steps backwards, he should be fine, and they should
score enough points. I don't think it's going to be
an artistic game, and I don't think it's going to
be a wonderful.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Game, but I would think the Vikings would win.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Yeah, he's the text message that says, funny, the Wild
are the hottest team in the NHL, and you cut
you can suddenly hear a level of haughtiness in Tennebe's
tones on the airway. Suddenly Rosie pretends to be familiar
with the with the with the Wild, Common and Brody
are suddenly the most authentic personalities on cafe. Huh, Brody
(31:41):
Brody in Common are the most authentic personalities.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
That's the whole station thoughts that includes PA and everybody
guards the the Morning Show. Your thoughts, I have no
thoughts about that. To respond to that, and I don't
know what he's talking about. Well, especially if you mentioned
Brodie in the same sentence as authentic, that's you kind
(32:07):
of dismiss that right away. I'm sure he'll be calling in.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Oh, let's hope not. I should have encouraged him.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Yeah, I don't. He's probably not even listening. No, I
don't think he's got nothing else to do. I saw
another note. I thought that would be of an interest
to you.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Here it is. This is an MPR story.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Downtell Minneapolis is struggling when a new Wolves and Links
arena help. There's some quotes from people that would say
would like to have a new arena. Alex Rodriguez said
a new arena is what our fans deserve. He said
that back in Juna June and Arena is an anchor
(32:54):
to the community.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Rodriguez is pitching.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
A new arena as a public good for Minneapples, and
many city leaders seem to be it that way too,
including Jacob Fry. But I did see in the same
story that economists J. C. Bradbury of Kennessas State University
said new sports venues will increase economic activity and ticket
(33:19):
sales for five to ten years, but most of that
money goes to the team, not the surrounding neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Bradbury's ready to book about what.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
He calls the false promises of publicly funded stadiums. He
said fifty years of research shows arenas are bad public investments.
He says, quote, you can go and you can poll
economists and they all agree on this. This isn't some
rogue opinion I have. It's something that's shared by the
entire discipline. If you ask doctors, is smoking bad, they'll
(33:50):
universally say yes. If you ask economists our stadiums bad
public investments, they'll universally say yes.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
You know, I saw, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
A clip on social media is something that US Bank
is the advantage US Bank has over a lot of stadiums,
and they compared it with maybe to Kansas City. Is
that US Bank, like the Metrodome is in a in
a neighborhood so to speak. Now, there's not a lot
of restaurants and stuff around there, but people have they
take light rail out there. They you know, they have
they have means to get in and out of that
(34:19):
area and and stay stay in that area. In Kansas City,
you look at look at that ballparks there when there's
not a game and they have this all that space
they have, just it's vacant. How many days a year
three hundred some days a year and compared to other ones.
I think that as long as you can and there's
always every time there's a big event, even like the
(34:42):
junior hockey tournament coming town, how much money is going
to pump into the economy. Uh, in Minneapolis and Saint
Paul with games at Mariucci and Grand Casino and these
big tournaments, even though a lot of people from Canada
aren't coming in now, but uh, you know, it's still
a nice boost for the economy. But as far as
the Wolves go, and yeah, they they they they're not better.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Not have their hands out.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
I mean, they got the money and they want to
build it toward you know, right by Farmers Market. I
think is the really about the only location in Minneapolis
that that's potentially going to work out. I don't know
what other land they would have that's available in downtown Minneapolis,
So that's a ways away. They haven't even approached any
You haven't had news conferences about have talked about me.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
I just saw in Chicago. I mean I was my.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
Buddy Kevin Warren wrote a letter to the Bears fans yesterday.
They were supposed to go to Arlington Height. They're going
to build a stadium out there. Well they got they
got shut down, basically, and it's not going to be
in the legislators docket next year. So now they're looking
at Northwest and you know they're going to building Gary
Indiana or something. You know, they might build a stadium
in Indiana so that Indiana will have two football teams.
(35:50):
But this shows you how it's not a given anymore.
There's been pushback, certainly from the legislators, and with everything
else going on in the world, it's hard to ask
for much of anything anymore when it comes to the
state for arenas.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
If I remember correctly, your four stadiums and against kids,
and for me, for the longest time was I was
for kids and against stadiums. Right then I was four
stadiums against kids. Then I was against both. But now
I'm for both stadiums and kids.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I think that you know, there's you can have a multipurpose.
I mean, in a perfect world, it would be nice
if you know, if the Wild and the Wolves could
you know what they do in Madison Square Garden, I
mean some other cities, you know they could, They could
share the arena. The dates would be filled up all
the time, basically in the winter sports and through the
spring with the two teams. And certainly it's done. It's
(36:42):
done elsewhere and the football stadium obviously what's going on
in Los Angeles with so far with the Rams and
the Charters sharing it and that that's a perfect example
of how you get more bang for your buck. I
don't know how the you know, the particular is how
it all works out and how they divvy all that up.
But that's not going to happen. I mean, the Wolves
are not going to play at Grand Casino Arena.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Is what is it? Tend to me?
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Because you follow hockey fairly closely, maybe you.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Have an answer to this.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Is it becoming less? Are our hockey teams and basketball teams?
Are Are they still sharing?
Speaker 1 (37:20):
I think it's pretty common? Is it really? Yeah? Okay?
Speaker 2 (37:23):
The problem we should be doing that here frankly, like
it's a waste to have two different, two different buildings, so.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
I can Philadelphia they share the same arena. I don't know.
I don't know about like Colorado, does it Okay, l A?
They do it in l A. Okay, yeah, maybe that
is the way they should do it. Then you I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
Yeah, obviously you mentioned Madison Square Garden. There's a lot
that that don't though. There's still I think a number
that have their own facility. I mean all the money
for themselves, you know, yeah, I mean where do the
Kings play. I don't know where they I mean they
don't play where the Clippers play. And he built that
(38:08):
Balmer built that monstrosity, incredible building out there, and their
team is god awful, but you know he's honore you.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Have in hockey King's Ducks Sharks. Is that it? Are
there two l A teams? Well and the Kings did
they share? No? No, they do not.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
They're in different cities. Yeah, they're quite a ways apart.
The Anaheim is not exactly right next door to LA.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
I thought, I've never I don't go to California. Yeah,
I know, you don't said Palm Springs that were going
out there.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
We're going out there. They don't I went to a game.
I went to a Ducks game out there a couple
of years ago. It felt like a preseason game, did
it really? Now they're they're doing better this year, so
maybe they've picked it up, But I mean, it was
an unbelievably vibe there.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Yeah, it's hard to care.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
About hockey and seventy five every day and people are
at the beach.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
I saw a last thing for you for me. I
was talking about this with Deuce. I sent him the
story because he's in a Nebraska grant.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Right.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
If you've seen how well Nebraska basketball is doing under Hoyburg.
They are now ranked I think either thirteenth or fifteenth
in the country.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
They are fifteen and oh.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
I think they're one of only five undefeated now they're
preseason schedule.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
There was there were a lot of cupcakes.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
But they've beaten a couple of ranked teams already, including
they just beat Illinois, and Illinois was ranked I think
eight or they were, they were in the top twenty,
and and it's it's it's a good sort at a
lot of quotes from Hoiberg, and you can tell he's
pretty proud of his program and fifteen and so the
reason I bring it up is and I guess this
(39:52):
is what you're hoping Nico Medved can bring to the golfers,
because I want, you know, I want to you know,
Nebraska has been even worse basketball where the overall than
Minnesota ever was.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Right, Minnesota has had a few glory years, right.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Marasca has. But Nebraska's doing it on out. Whether it
lasts or not, I don't know, but right now there's there.
They're one of the best teams in the Big Ten,
and they're ranked I think, like I said, I think
there might be fifteenth in the nation right now. Welberg's
done a nice job there.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
He has, and every as we all know, and I
you know, I heard Pja a little bit today talking
with the football situation. The business of college sports has
changed so dramatically. I mean, the idea of recruiting somebody
for a couple of years and having them come to
your school because the university offers academics that you appeal to,
you say, right, the signing players to contracts to come
(40:43):
back next well.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
And and what Heiberg was saying that they have a
little more new money now, he said, but when they
started playing better, he said, we're at rock bottom when
it comes to meal money anyway.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Interesting, enjoy your enjoy weekend. Yeah, thank you sir, you've
met at tend. Thanks for having it.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Great job you as well. Who's in for program password?
We them Meat Sauce and Max. Why long with Little
be up? Should be fun. We'll see you tomorrow twelve noon,
Big Ticket JG. They're next year in the fan.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
Good night and good night missus Calabash. Where have you?
I'm a fraud?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Yes. Listening back to any of common Man's programs by
