Speaker 1 (00:06):
I want to chime in.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
What's happening with your favorite Campan program. Make your voice
heard on the Bradshawn Ryan text line. Let us know
we have to say by texting message of six four
six eighty six. That's six four six eighty six standard
message in data rates.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Play a couple thirteen fourteen fast.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
I'm calm and he's tend to be. Mark Rosen makes
his triumph and return. Tomorrow at two o'clock. Head coach
of the soon to be Big Game World champion of
Minnesota Vikings, Kevin O'Connell, will have his weekly news conference
generally does the day after the game. I guess because
of a short week, he's moving it to tomorrow rather
than than today.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
A scheduled for one point fifteen the PJ.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Fleck Show, It's regularly scheduled time on Tuesdays at.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Twelve o'clock. Attend to be. There was more than just
the Vikings Eagles game yesterday. There was a full slide
of games across the National Football League. It's time now
for our version of NFL run.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Four right, Yeah on.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
The Old West, on the Old West movie.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, it sounds I guess from out West, but we're
gonna start east across the pond in London as Devanta Hatrick,
well you can call him Patrick. DeVante Adams got the
hat trick first and going to one.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
Stafford growing to the right side again looking for Adam's southball.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
He's got another lesson.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
Tavante Adams with his third touchdown at the game, and
the Rams are pouring it on the.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Jaguars at Wembley.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
It's thirty four to seven Stafford one on Monte Adams
and it's a third touchdown, tying his career best for
the future.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
Hall of Favor.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Touchdowns are more important than the yards he only did.
He only have like fifty five yards receiving yesterday. I think, yeah,
he was just an end zone guy. He was all
the touchdowns were, yeah, they were just five yards.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Catches were tough. He's elite in those situations. He had
three Matthew Safford through for five. That was Westwood won
on the call. By the way, Rams thirty five Jaguars
seven in London. So the Jaguars, we now was it?
I think it was two weeks ago. I thought they
were gonna win the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
They were they weren't They four and one or four
to zero, No, three and one, they had.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
To go after that Chiefs win. A couple of weeks ago,
the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Win and it looked like and then they've been just
all for the last two games. I mean, you know,
no shame to lose. You're gonna lose games in the NFL.
But to just get buried like that by the Rams
not a good sign for the Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Let's move on to the NFC North in Chicago. First
and ten at the eleven.
Speaker 8 (02:59):
Out of the I come ot motions right now, Dune
say out to the right snap Cato give it a
swift on the cutback down up since out of the
five clustering it to the end.
Speaker 9 (03:08):
Zone, touchdown, touchdown.
Speaker 8 (03:11):
Bears got a boy Ben Johnson aggressive through the football
right there and it's twelve to nothing. Bear's the lead
on a ten yard DeAndre Swift.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Make it an eleven yard DeAndre.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Swift touchdown or on those the Chicago Bears Radio network.
Bears beat the Saints twenty six fourteen. They didn't really
pass effectively, but in this game, DeAndre Swift one hundred
and twenty four yards rushing in a tuddy and Kyle
Mnungai eighty one yards rushing in a Tuddy.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That's four wins in a row for the Bears. Tend
to be says a Right set up the game's first
Tody with a long interception return. The Bears overcame a
spotty performance by Caleb Williams to match their best streak
since the twenty eighteen NFC North Championship team closed the
regular season with four straight wins. And how bad are
(04:00):
the Saints? That's as badest I guess.
Speaker 9 (04:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I think Rattler, Deuce and I had that game on
as well, because I think it had spread swing implications.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Deuce took the Bears, which I was going to take
the Bears, but I was distracted by a knockdown punch
cut Padron didn't realize he'd already taken the Bears and
spread swing. There was a time.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Where Rattler I think had like four completions for five
yards or something like that.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
I mean it was this was deep into the game.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Rattle.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
He was Rattle, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
So Bears go to four and two and they sit
firmly entrench tied with the kiddies.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Right now for a second in the NFC North.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
A matchup I don't think anyone is really looking forward to.
That would be Miami in Cleveland, they had some bad
weather there. That means the Browns were doing it all
on the ground.
Speaker 10 (04:41):
Now in the Miami forty six yard line for the
far hash out of an I formation, fannin in front
of Judkins, Gabriel on first half. We'll give the Judkins
running up the middle pick hole forty he's at the
thirty five, he's at the thirty.
Speaker 7 (04:53):
It's a foot race.
Speaker 10 (04:54):
Twenty fifteen part sideline touchdo Quinn shot jud from forty
six yards to the house.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
One of three touchdowns for Quinn Shawn Judkins. He also
ran for eighty four yards as the Cleveland Browns and
that was the Cleveland Browns Radio network. They beat the
Miami Dolphins thirty one to six.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
That's the first time of Brown's running back has had
three rushing scores in a game since Nicky Chubb in
twenty twenty two.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Did you know that If you would have asked me
who it would have been, I would have guess Nick Chubb.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah, it was Nick Chubb.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
The Browns had four takeaways in the game for the
first time in the early two seasons. Tend to be
big plays in turnovers four and one game.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Speaking of big plays, how about Drake May.
Speaker 9 (05:38):
Remember all three timeouts in remaining They're down thirteen?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Said, May takes the snap chest home. He dropped back
with time. He lights up because.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
He's not a hooping their petty.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
He he reaches, snaps him.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
He cost the ends touchdown.
Speaker 8 (05:51):
Patriots through what through Portly it's a catch Drake May
thirty nine yard touchdown pass to Kaishawn Moody And that's
ninety eight five the Sports Hub Patriots Radio Network, Patriots
thirty one, Tennessee thirteen Titans, along with the Saints and
the Jets in the Dolphins the worst teams in football.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah, the Patriots are five and two. That's their fourth
straight win. May two twenty two yards and two tunnies
a passer rating of one thirty five point nine.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Pretty good.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Oh and is that the guy that it's rumored the
Vikings really wanted that was the guy that O'Connell ball.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yes, they wanted to trade up a couple first round
picks for him.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
They wanted to get in by now.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I wish they would have.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Well, by the way he's playing now, Yeah, I think
we all feel that way.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
The Chiefs are chiefing Chiefs do get the ball to
start the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
That entries into that same discussion. They load the right
side up again, a single.
Speaker 10 (06:49):
News side Cock Rise touchdown, Cansas.
Speaker 8 (06:53):
City, Reshie Rise his second.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Touchdown, and back and easy back baby.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
The Chiefs go on to sixteen.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Play ninety four yard drive, three drives, three long.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Touchdown drives ninety six to five. The fan and the
Chiefs Radio network. Pat Mahomes two hundred and eighty six
yards passing on twenty six of thirty five three for
three touchdowns, and Rashie Rice seven catches for forty two. Yeah,
first game back from a suspension and those two touchdowns.
That was the Chiefs win thirty one zero.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
What was he suspended for?
Speaker 2 (07:25):
He had him off the field, the car accident thing.
So yeah, he was suspended the first six games of
the season, how about it. But he's the best wide
receiver and now you know they were losing some games
early on because they didn't have Rashie Rice, Xavier Worthy
was hurting. Now he's got his two best passing options
(07:47):
and Mahomes looks really really good right now.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Now, Max Crosby missed much of the game because of
a knee injury, and he's their best offensive weapon, which
isn't saying a lot, because I don't think they have
much more than that. As a matter of fact, how
about this tim to be The Chiefs held the Raiders
to three first downs and ninety six yards. We'll beating
them for the tenth time in eleven matchups.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Gino Smith finished ten of sixteen for sixty seven yards.
That's just a total domination as they shut it out
to other Raiders.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
One of the worst games of the day that would
be Panthers versus Jets. Bryce Young gets hurt. Andy Dalton
comes in to seal it in.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
An efty set.
Speaker 9 (08:26):
Hubbard playing an up back position. Now he motions off
the left tip of Dalton.
Speaker 11 (08:32):
Andy the staff back to throw, launches deep down fieldly
Get it.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
Just makes the catch. It's on the.
Speaker 11 (08:39):
Twenty five yard line. It's been a career game for
Xavier League, yet they went for the haymaker. That's an
Xavior leak. Get delivers.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
That's a Gutchy call right there.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
The red rifle.
Speaker 9 (08:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
The Panthers beat the Jets thirteen to six. Xavier Lagett
nine for ninety two and a touchdown, and a lot
of that is because the passing game is a lot
more efficient with Andy Dalton when he comes in. He
comes in four for seven for six yards and sounds
like he's gonna get to start next week because Bryce
Young is still hurt.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I would never have guessed.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
He was still in the league. I had no idea
I thought he would. I thought he would retire like
ten years ago. But there's Andy Dalton still still spinning it.
He can still spin it ten of me.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Apparently.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
The noon games not great. The three PM games were
very good. We'll begin with Colts Chargers. Lots of points
scored here.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
High snap for Jones, but he pulls it down. Get
to the Taylor marching two.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Is right, He's at the fucking touchdown the Trent Fick
the again for Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 11 (09:36):
Three rushing touchdowns for the greatest running back going right now.
It's thirty seven seventeen, Colts over Bolts.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I love that Colts over Bolts, and that's what they happened.
They win thirty eight twenty four. Jonathan Taylor maybe the
best running back in football right now. Three touchdowns, ninety
four yards rushing.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
How about Danny Jones two eighty eight to two scores.
We didn't need him, We didn't even off from a contract.
He went elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
We could have had him under center, could have had
Sammy darnold T who plays.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Tonight best game of the day thirty two thirty.
Speaker 9 (10:09):
The Giants had the lead with two seconds to go.
Denver with the ball on the twenty lined up with
the ball being spotted near Hash at the twenty nine
at attempt of thirty nine yards for the win, snap
placement kick on the way it is done. Broggo players
(10:33):
celebrating right, they just won a.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Home playoff game. Koa Denver on the call.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
The Broncos rally for the comeback thirty three points in
the fourth quarter after they trailed nineteen tozing, twenty five
of those in the final five and a half minutes.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I'm trying to find the statistic tend to be I
had at one of these stories here. I think it
was when the game was like twenty six eight the odds, Yeah,
the percentage chance that that the Broncos could win the
game was at like one percent. I mean, it was
(11:11):
basically over And.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
How about this stat This is from Kevin Harlan.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
NFL teams had won one and two consecutive games when
leading by eighteen plus points with six minutes or less
to play in the fourth quarter until the Giants lost
to the Broncos yes day.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
And that's that's the stat then it was there was
like a less than one percent or like a one
percent chance.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
That that that the Giants We're gonna lose that football game.
That's what that's what the percentage was. You didn't highlight
that Packers game.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
It's break time.
Speaker 7 (11:38):
So we saw it.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
We saw have three marks. Get that on the other
side of oh.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
You know, Packers one. We're happy for them.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
They look pretty good right now. I must have admit, well, pause,
come back. Maybe we'll finish NFL roundup. Have some more
text messages to get to regarding the quarterback controversy, conundrum,
whatever you want to call it in regards to the Vikings,
We'll take a break.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Come back with war.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Here until three.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Probably if you've been listening for it, even just today,
but if you've been listening for longer than that, you
probably realized newon to three. At least the host I'm
not speaking, I'm not talking about ten to about the
host is uninformed, unprepared, but unapologetic about it. If you're
looking for poised, polished and professional, that's coming you Way
(13:10):
a three o'clock big ticket and JG will be here
doctor Mike Ways in Tenneby, and here's what he has
to say, courtesy.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Of our Brad Shawn Brian Kavan texta mine.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
He says, we really won't know what JJ McCarthy can
do until we have one A strong and stable offensive
line built on young drafted players rather than old injury
prone free agents. Two A strong and stable defense built
on young drafted players rather than old injury prone free agents.
Which means we probably won't know what JJ McCarthy can
(13:41):
do until he takes over for Maddy Stafford in twenty
twenty eight. Side note three drafts have netted the Vikings
two starters, one of whom is the kicker, the same
three drafts that net of the Packers fifteen, yes, fifteen
starting slash rotational players.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Is that true? PAS drafted that? Well, they do have,
I think the youngest you.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Have a draft and developed philosophy, and they do have.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
I think they were saying this last year that they
had the youngest average you know, average age across the roster,
the youngest team in the National Football League, which doesn't
bolde well, because again.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
There we also traded away a bunch of our draft packs.
But that being said, the ones he traded him for
aren't hitting.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah, that is correct.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Yeah, And if you if you're a Packer fan, you
you you can't help, but be I.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Don't Viking fans the way we've had three starters over
the last three years. Okay, because Donovan Jackson's starting. Okay,
there you go, Jordan Aison, there you go, and then
the world record, So there you go, doctor Mike, and
JJ McCarthy was starting. Technically he's hurt.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
You're right, I guess. Technically, I guess.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
I guess We'll never know their true intentions behind it,
I guess, But for now we have to give them
the benefit of the death.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
I guess doctor Mike, though, is his point is well
taken with the Vikings just go back another year because
it's been four drafts for Quasi.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
I guess.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Uh, Doctor Mike's point is well taken. The Draftings has
not been very good.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
We've not and that is the problem. Look when the
Vikings said.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
After the loss to the Rams, it was the season
any news conference, it was like that was I think
they did it. Monday the coach came out and said,
we need to rebuild the interior, both the offensive and
defensive lines. And they did that, but they did do
it with expensive veteran free agents. Of those expensive veteran
(15:48):
free agents, the center has done nothing. And that's because
he's had two concussions. So whether I wasn't breaking down
his play prior to the first concussion and then afterwards
before the second concussion, I don't know how well he
was playing, if he was playing at a high level,
if he was just playing okay, if he wasn't doing
(16:08):
very good at all. Our other offensive lineman, wasn't he
the right guard? He's our fries right, he's our right guard.
I believe I think he's played every game, and I
don't hear his name called much, which generally means if
you're an offensive lineman, your name's not called much, you're
probably doing your job. So that I'll give the Vikings
(16:30):
credit on that free agent signing that's worked out. On defense,
the two guys in the interior, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
You know, they were.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Supposed to provide more pass rush tend to be have
they I don't know what their sack numbers are.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I know what the pressure rates are.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
I don't have those numbers in front of me, but yesterday,
and I know the offensive line for Philadelphia is very
good because that's what they do every year. They draft
offensive line every year, whether they need them or not,
they just keep developing offensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
The Lions have that same strategy. The Vikings have drafted
offensive line, and people think that they haven't.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
They just haven't hit on the right guys for the
most part. That is what I think has happened with
the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
But Hertz had all that.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
They were just showing the highlight package here again those
you know what we talked about. There were like four
passes of twenty plus yards on.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Two maybe three of them. He was just standing there
looking left, looking right, bouncing up, and I mean it
was like it was like a scrimmage. He had all
the time in the world. So what happened to that?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Those interior defensive linemen Hardgrave and what's.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
The other kid's name, Allen?
Speaker 4 (17:41):
They were supposed to give us some some inside pass
rush nothing at least yesterday, And I don't.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Know how it's gone all year.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I feel like I don't have the analytics with me,
but just and I haven't watched they all twenty two.
I feel like the Vikings didn't send as much pressure yesterday,
and I'm guessing a lot of that is Jalen Hurts
Saquon Barkley related. Right, if you miss, both of them
are capable of burning you. So I just felt like
(18:13):
we just start standard rushed the four guys and they
weren't getting home. And a lot of our pressure comes
more from b flows scheming than necessarily the talent that
we have.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
But those two inside guys were supposed to give us
more that weren't they Yes, and they just they have
not done so. And so I know Wentz is catching
a lot of heat there. There's the Wenz haters out
there and I understand it. He was not very good yesterday.
I thought he had moments. I mean that last drive,
he's got no time to throw, no one's open. He
(18:45):
runs for two first downs on on he's laying on
the lines in the train. He runs for a couple
of first downs on third down. He also made some
nice completions, but certainly the two interceptions, particular the pick
six was just awful, and the intentional grounding.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Might have been the worst. I mean that was just
because if you watch the replay and he's looking I
sell it. When he's looking right at CJ. Ham, he's
looking at him. He's wide.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Now I don't think CJ scores from there, but there's
nobody very close to him at that point. But the
defense needs to accept as much responsibility for that loss.
Yesterday especially, we talked about I know you, you're not
going to prevent any every completion. There are going to
be breakdowns in every secondary on any team.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
I don't care.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
My guess is the old eighty five Bears in the
two thousand Ravens had their issues as well, right occasionally,
but when a quarterback has a perfect rating the first
time in his career, one is it one fifty three
point eight. Is that a perfect QBR. I think it
sounds like it. He had one fifty three point eight,
(19:58):
So you can blame one, it's all you want. And
you can believe that McCarthy would have played better and
maybe won the game. And maybe McCarthy, if he'd been healthy,
been playing all this time, he'd be where Drake May
is right now.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
I'm not convinced that.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
I don't think we won that game with McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I don't think that either. I don't think we do either.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
And I understand the people's anxiousness to see him play.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
I think because well, we'll talk about again on the
other side of the break.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
We'll talk about a couple of other things that happened
in the NFL as well.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
We'll do that in the last segment the other side
of the break. Here in the common program on the
fan thirteen fourteen pass text messages except at the accepted
(21:19):
at a Bradchaw Brian camp and text line. This one
came in that says, if you admit a QB on
a rookie deals a blueprint, then why do you get annoyed?
If people wanting McCarthy to start now and take advantage
of the rookie deals. Sounds like you're confused. Well not really,
and that's not the only way to do it. The
Rams didn't do it that way. They traded for a
(21:42):
veteran quarterback and won a big game that very first year.
There are many different ways to win a big game championship.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
The other thing is I did text back to the
he must not have watched those first two games, McCarthy.
I would suggest if he thinks I'm confused, he must
have missed those first two games, So I would suggest
find them online. I'm sure you can and watch JJ
McCarthy play. Here is the issue.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Also earn year two of a four to five year
rookie gales exactly.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
There's there's plenty of time to go on that rookie deal.
Here's a text message that came in says, if Sam
Donald's on the Vikings roster year earlier when San Francisco assigned,
would be the back of the Vikings. Never draft McCarthy
and Donald gets the contract extension. Donald gave the Vikings
(22:30):
fifteen million dollar quarterback production last year for ten million dollars,
doing the same this year for thirty five million, which
is still a bargain as the Vikings offered Donald, the
same offer as the Seawxy stays. You must make it
heavily incentive laden that are attainable light Buxton, so you
can have an easy out to turn it over to McCarthy.
And that does make some sense. Somebody else sent a
(22:52):
text message and let me see if I can find
this one, because this one does make a lot of sense. Okay,
I can't find, but I compare phrase what he said,
because it's it's really at the crux of this whole thing, Tammy,
what we've talked about before. The Vikings went fourteen and
(23:14):
three last year. They were one victory away season ending
game against Detroit from securing the number one seed. Overall,
their defense was very good, their offense was very good.
Without a real strong interior the offensive line, they were
one of the best teams in football. Donald laid an
(23:35):
egg against Detroit and then against the Rams.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
I don't think that was Donald. That was the interior
of the offensive line, which is why the team admitted
as much. By getting rid of of sweaty butt guy
what's up Bradbury and other guys in the interior of
the offensive line, and they got new players. Now there's
(23:59):
the eye idea that and I subscribe to this, that
by rebuilding the interior of the offense and defensive lines.
Both lines needed help, and they.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Did that.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
The VITE And if you go fourteen and three, unless
everybody's leaving viavi A free agency, you have to believe
your windows open for the following year.
Speaker 12 (24:22):
Right.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
So the argument is, well, okay, if you were doing that,
why would you start a rookie quarterback. Be hard for
rookie quarterback, even in the best of times, to be
able to put that type of season together.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
And I understand that, but you don't get those free agents.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I don't think if you signed Darnold, you don't have
as much money to use for free agency. Plus, I
also feel like the Vikings probably thought, because it's been
done before, you've seen okay quarterback play in teams qualify
for the playoffs and make d he runs on. The
examples that are always used are Hostetler with the New
(25:04):
York Giants.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
He won a big game. Jeff Hosteler was just.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
An okay quarterback. He had a good year that season.
Who's the Brad Johnson for Tampa Bay. Brad Johnson's not
a Hall of Fame quarterback. He was better than average
quarterback who was in the right situation at the right time.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
And then who is the guy? Arent Dilford is the
classic case.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
So I'm assuming the Vikings thought all McCarthy had a
he's only lost three games in his high school and
his collegiate career. I'm sure they thought. And then quarterback
whispered did I don't know if you saw this.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Yesterday they did the sit down interview with O'Connell and
he was asked by and I don't know which which
Fox person did the interview, but they asked about the court.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
They asked about the quarterback whisperer, and he said, I
don't really care for that very much, though he did
say I'm out of what we've done with our quarterbacks here.
So while he doesn't like being called a quarterback whisperer,
he does feel as though he's because he said so,
I wish I had the quote. He talked about how
(26:12):
he never had that opportunity to win big games and
do this and do that.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Because he just never he didn't have the ability, he
didn't have the talent, or in probably something not the
right situation or whatever the case may be, and he
enjoys the process of working with quarterbacks. He likes it
very much and being an offensive mind.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
So my guess is he did think I don't even
necessarily think this is I mean, part of its ego,
but I just he probably did think it wasn't so
much everybody.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
Else saying he was quarterback whisperer.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I don't think that helps that you start believing that
stuff after a while.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
But I also I'm.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Sure he has a lot of confidence in his ability
to coach up quarterbacks, and he thought, if we've got
an offensive line that can protect him, and if we
improve the defensive line and we bring back what we have,
there's no reason we can't win with this kid.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
And two games isn't enough time to tell. But in
those first.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Two games, let's face it, he had the one brilliant
fourth quarter, came out of nowhere, and they won the game.
But for the first three quarters, he looked lost, and
he looked just as lost against the Falcons, and the
Falcons have a very good defense.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
I think we're finding out now.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
But the point is, I think they felt they were
built to win now and they couldn't do it with
a rookie quarterback because they had faith in the quarterback
and the coach had faith in himself that he could
coach the kid up. You've heard what he said since then.
Part of the reason they're still working on is since
the injury. They said, well, and I'm paraphrasing what koc said,
(27:47):
and I'm almost certain that this was his point, was
that were he believes in those mechanics, you know, the
eyes and the footwork and all that stuff, and they
I think he feels like McCarthy is feel a.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Long way from putting that together.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
I think he also remember what he said after the
Wentz victory the second game when he went nine, was
who do.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
We beat two weeks ago?
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Cleveland?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Cleveland, when we beat the Browns, and Wentz had that
game when he drive where he threw nine passes and
nine completions, he said something about and again not the
exact quote, but that he believes McCarthy should have been
able to learn something.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
About the value of getting rid of the ball.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Quickly, because that's what the one thing Wentz does is
going with There's a lot of wins haters in this time.
They don't like him at all, and he wasn't He
wasn't great yesterday. I don't think he was as awful
as a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Think, but that that Wentz, at least generally speaking, gets
rid of the balls quickly is he can.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Yesterday he got sacked a few times. I don't think
that was because he was holding on the ball too long.
He just wasn't getting a lot of time to throw.
And I think they thought that McCarthy would be able
to pick up on all that right away. And I
and maybe had he stayed healthy and playing you know
these first how many games we played now six? If
he'd been playing all six of these games, maybe he
(29:05):
would have made some progress.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
But we won't know that.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
And I guess that's why people want him back to
see it and get to that point.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
But I think the pickle they're in right now is
JJ McCarthy needs that experience, right. You have to go
through those things and learn from it. But they're also
to your previous point of the Vikings roster is built
to win now, Yeah, so can we can we waste
our time going through the trying to progress with our
(29:33):
young quarterback while also potentially losing games with our wind
now roster that we don't know how long that windows
open with the rest of the roster, and it's a.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Very old roster. It's one of the oldest league from
what I understand, And I think that is kind of
the quandary conundrum conundrum. The quandary that the coach is
in right now is that is that they do want
to play McCarthy, but they also don't want to sacrifice
what might be their best opportunity to hear the next
year or two to win. So and and again, I
(30:01):
know people gonna say, well, now you're talking on both
sides of your mouth, because if you just said you
thought O'Connell had the confidence in McCarthy and himself to
win with McCarthy at quarterback, I just it's possible that
they've kind of changed their mind on that a little bit.
That in other words, this might be a longer process
to get McCarthy where we needed him to be than
we thought. And I'll just tell you, I'll say it again,
(30:22):
the defense just didn't come through when they needed to yesterday.
I mean, when when you allow a quarterback to get
a perfect quarterback rating, there's something wrong there. There's inherently
you're not getting enough a rush. The coverage isn't very good.
We saw a couple of those those those passes.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Guys wide open. I mean there was one where he
had ten seconds to throw.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
My guess is there was probably holding on that play,
because there's holding on every play. But they don't throw
the flag, so you got to cover.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
The Vikings defense looked like chairs.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
They looked like chairs yesterday for much of the game.
They really did. And as supposed to be kind of
our or calling card. I think so. Uh you mentioned
was it chefter with what's his face?
Speaker 7 (31:04):
Today?
Speaker 4 (31:04):
On mcafe the Pat McAfee show, and what did he
say again? He said something to the effect of, they'll probably.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Play short week once he'll start, and if Wentz plays
well and they win, he'll probably give him another week
to hold off on JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
But if he's if he plays poorly and they don't
jail right, And I think that's what most I believe
most Viking fans right now are willing to sacrifice any
chance for this season or thinking that maybe McCarthy gives
them as good a chance to win as once.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I guess you could make that argument. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
We've seen so little from JJ McCarthy, which is why
I think people want to see him. It's the backup
quarterback we have, hope, I see the same thing. I'm
gonna get really boring with you out the wild. I've
seen the same thing with the Wild fans. Right we
have all these young kids, you have your an O grin,
and people want to see these guys elevated in the
(32:05):
lineup like right now, because they're seeing like a Johansson
on your second line and Johansen's not a second liner
and Felino's had to play, right, They're frustrated seeing guys
like that in your top six. And I kind of
compare it to the JJ McCarthy of you are just
hoping those guys can play.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
These are NHL coaches right like, they're not just withholding
playing players young players because they just feel like it.
They're trying to win too, and if they thought that
those guys on a second line would give them the
best chance to win, they would do it. They clearly
see that those guys, while they might be good eventually,
then maybe a month from now, maybe in twenty twenty six,
(32:47):
maybe in twenty twenty eight, those guys can play. They
are under the belief that those guys right now are
not ready for that role.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Yet.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Fans just want to see correct the young guys because
they haven't.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
We want to know what we got, That's it.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
We want to know what we got and we at
least the unknown sometimes is you you'd rather do that
what you know you have isn't.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Up to par The thing. That the reason I.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Think I don't have a problem continuing to play wins
because I just think you can win games if you're
I was sold on the idea and I fought back
on it with people for a long time. You remember
my little my little chant was it's not Donatel, maybe's
the personnel, because everybody destroyed at Donna Tel and said
(33:42):
his defense was terrible.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Do I have to bring up this stat again?
Speaker 4 (33:45):
You're the Vikings lost to the Giants in the playoffs.
Dona Tell's team had four turnovers on final drives to
stop the other team from winning the football game. That
sometimes it's the personnel, you I think, what with the
personnel Donatel had and b Flows probably probably is a
better defensive coordinator than at Donnatel. But we always want
(34:10):
to believe that some coach has some magic elixir, and
I just don't think it's true because we saw what
happened yesterday that was he had a perfect quarterback rating.
That's awful. That's on the defense. That's not on Wins,
it's not on Addison, it's not on it's not on Hawkinson,
it's not on any of those guys. That's on the defense,
and it's not all on the coordinator.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Someone else sends.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
I think the point everyone is missing here is none
of the free agents that were brought in to make
us a contender have been any good. Quazy saved money
on the quarterback to bring in a bunch of high
priced talent who has not performed well.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
We're not missing that point.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
We brought that point up a little bit earlier that
the guys on the inside. They on the defensive side
of the ball, we thought we don't have enough of
an interior pass rush.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
We need an interior pass rush. So we let Harrison
Phillips go.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
And Harrison Phillips was a it was a good run
stopping defensive tackle.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
We didn't want that anymore.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
We wanted I don't know how much somebody else that
does the analytics and the sabermetrics, maybe they can they
can give me some numbers that will show me that
the two guys we signed in the red Redfern, Redgrave
or Robert Redford, Who's who are the two Hargrave and
the other guy Jonathan Allen, that those guys have brought
(35:25):
to the table what they were supposed to.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
If you can show that to me, then that's great.
But I don't.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
See any They sure weren't very effective yesterday. I don't
think if your quarterback is a perfect rating. Part of
that's on the secondary too. It goes hand in hand.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
In the offensive line.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
One of the guys has been injured, he's had the concussions.
The other guy, the Fries guy, we haven't heard his
name often. I'm thinking he's probably been okay because generally
you only hear an offensive lineman's name is when he's
when he's when he's off side where he's holding or
false start and he's holding. So but no, you're right
and again everybody, and I guess the general manager is
(36:09):
he's the final word on personnel, right. But he says
here at the end of that text message, it says,
now they've gotten so many coming, I can't find it anymore.
But talking about how the free agents that Quazy brought
(36:31):
in to save money haven't done the job.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
I don't know. I don't think Queasy is calling.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
O'Connell and saying, hey, guess who I signed today, and
Kevin goes who Joe bag of donuts, and Kevin is
completely out of the loop. I think the head coach
and the defensive coordinator meet with the general manager and
they go, we need help at position X, y Z,
(37:01):
and these are the guys.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
We like wellpcific and specifically, last time Koc signed his
contract extension, the rumors after were that part of it
was he wants more say in personnel.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Correct, that's exactly right, and so.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
And other than the other than the Bengals game when
za Roj had the two uh, the pick six scoop
and score. Yeah, and when we turned the ball over
like four or five times in that game. We've only
turned the ball over seven times all season, right, And
I feel like they've done a long time with just
forcing a turnover.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
This one says well.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Saquon was held at forty four yards yesterday, so Jonathan
Allen was pretty impactful. He was brought in here to
rush the passer though too. That was the heart Raven
Allen were brought in here to give an interior passers
and it's not the first time Saquon Barkley has been
held to a low. Yeah, he's had He's had a very,
very mediocre season so far.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Well, I will say the one thing we could do
is we could you know, we're focusing on those two
on the interior. Dallas Turner is a virtual non factory
there as well. Grenard didn't do a whole lot yesterday, correct,
I mean, you know, he was kind of hurting that
last game. I don't know if something lingered over or no.
Last week he popped up on the injury report with
a hamstrings. I don't know if that lingered into the
(38:18):
game at all. But they didn't get enough push from
their entire line, and out of all of them, I
get the free agencies disappointing, but Dallas Turner, given what
you what you gave up in the first round to
move up and get him, He basically gave up almost
like an entire draft for him, and he does not
look like the guy right now.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Yeah, I repeat, are you unaware of this? Our defense did?
He gave up some big plays, but except for three
long passes.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
They thus four long passes, and those are big what
determines games, big plays.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Take Away that seventy nine yard touchdown, the forty five
yard touchdown catch.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
We failed because of Wentz's terrible mistakes. See, everybody wants
to believe it's as simple.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
You know what, though, if you take away whence his
terrible mistakes, the offense is pretty good in that.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Game, exactly. I mean, that's that's the logic.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
That's what's so silly about this, you know, I know
it's a cliche, but what is a team? You lose
as a team, And Wentz made some really good plays
in that game, by the way, but he also did
make some excruciatingly bad ones all around.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
There's plenty. I and if if for me, I blame
the defense as much as anything, But.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
I think they are equally complicit. Yeah, I think they're equals.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Right when you when you get to the red zone
five times and don't you know, zero for five you
have to settle for field goals, but again and to
pick six the other way that led to points, yes,
and again.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
But the National Football League loves this, and I think
we all do so. One one score game, I mean
it was there to be It was there to be taken.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
That that was, And to.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Your point, when we needed stops in the second half,
the defense.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Didn't come up. This correct it because because that game
was ready to be taken.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
And if if Hawkinson doesn't bother that was. That was
a wonderful effort by Hawkins and I'm not blaming him
for that.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
That was it. That was an incredibly tough catch that
was ruled. Is not a catch that.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Even got is that he even got it that it
was called a touchdown and got it to a review.
Was was was a what was? It was an incredible accomplishment.
Was a hell of a play. But if that play
holds up, we might be talking about a Viking victory, but.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
You still be on a score in or defense would
have had made a stop and they didn't make a
stop at the end when they needed to do that.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
That's that's That's the other point of it too. Here's
look at this.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
The offensive is a success rate uh of the Eagles, Yes,
or was a negative fourteen percent, the worst of any
winning team on so and they still think the defense
was bad.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Yeah, I do. I think on when they when they
needed to make the plays they did.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
The defense was just like Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz had
some awful moments and he had some good moments. The
defense had some awful moments and they also had some right.
They had a couple series in a row where it
was three and out for Philadelphia and they were giving
the offense the chance at that point.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
That is correct when you when you give a quarterback
a perfect quarterback rating.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
The defense wasn't that.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
I don't care what the numbers say from the you know,
fourteen success rate. When the quarterback has a perfect game,
he basically pitched a perfect game. It's hard to it's
hard to praise the defense too much.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
I thought the defense let the Vikings down yesterday as
much as one spin.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Hey, it'll be a talk for Tuesday tomorrow. We'll pick
