the two. I need a RSPCT. The lead flips again.

(03:34):
It's it was brilliant. That's what I like. First first clue,
A great first clue.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Because I was, yeah, no, it's fine, it's fine. There's
many I'm not going to get so, oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Hey, what does Anita Baker sing? I don't know, but
I know the name well known singer.

Stilla Barnburners the name forty four to forty one the
producers now lead. The iPad goes back to Nordo and

forty four forty one? The producers, The option is yours,

(04:17):
Li'll be, what would you like to do?

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Looks like this one's harder than toad and the last
one went to sell.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I'm going to try first, all right, li'll be and
Johnny for ten graf chart.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yes, so I thought STEFFI.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Good Elite has flipped once again. Fifty one to forty four.
Li'll bey and Johnny now lead team producers. The iPad
flips to Tenna and Johnny. The password is blimp. A

(04:57):
big smile from Tenna Bee.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Finally I get to go first.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Tenna has the option. He wants to go first. Tenna
and Nordo for ten good year, Blimp, thank you. There's
nothing you can do that.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
If you have.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Layups everyone, it's going to be a barn burn. It
is fifty four fifty one.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
You have the game play faster exactly. You got to
get out of here. What's scoring? Sorry?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Team producers lead fifty four fifty one. The iPad goes
over to Nordo and liy'll be. The password is tree.

(05:43):
The option goes over to you, lit'll be, would you
like first, yep, go ahead, stump tree. Yeah, okay, that
was That was the first one that I was like,
oh boy, that one bad.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yes. The other one was like, I'll let us see
a lot of trees. You could say too. I know
that was bad. I'm sorry. You know what. At least
were on the air and everything work. That's just great.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, we'll see if this one's any better. I pad
by the way, but I want to raise I just
want to let you know. Lillby and Johnny sixty one
fifty four lead. iPad goes over to Johnny Antenna. The
password is cram Tenna. Yeah, the option, what would you

(06:38):
like to do?

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I'm going to say something I might be an illegal clue,
so I'm still gonna go with it. Okay, if we
lose ten points, we lose ten points.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Okay, Tenna and Nordo for ten Crayola crayon.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah, that's not that's not illegal, right, I mean, it's
kind of part of the word. I don't know if
it's just brand. That's a brand. I didn't know if
that was gonna be fine. And also another layup. I
feel like I need to just rewrite my whole list
of this. You should the person.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Who made this list eats prey on a daily basis.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
That the packer fan version of keeping yourself. We are
benefiting from this in some ways. You know, it is
a barnbur sixty four sixty one Keep trained. It's worked.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Hey, they wanted a close game, you got it. iPad
flips over. I believe to li'll be and Nordo. The
password is milk.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
We are now trailing seventy one sixty four. Judging by
that reaction, it'll be you want to go ahead?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, I do.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Man, Now I gotta get it. I hadn't write a bontage.
I had to make all that. I was busy. Then
I want to hear let's go go ahead, skim milk.
Is this the fondest must version? I mean, I will

(08:19):
take the points. I'd like to be clear the versus.
We're gonna go on a run of like forest right
tens and lose the game.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Without getting an incorrect answer, just ten threats the way
you lose?

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah, Oh my gosh, I don't even all right? What's
the score? Seventy one sixty four?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Like this hard? This words would be like the hardest
one ever watched. It could be on a monopeia calligraphy.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
The iPad goes over to Tennan and Johnny. The password
is bench. I might retire just from hosting passes time.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Mhm.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
What's the score here? By the way, I got seventy
one sixty four? Lill be and Johnny, UH can win?

Speaker 1 (09:07):
They're on a match point. Tenna, you have the option,
what would you like to do? I'm gonna go second. Wow, wow.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
So this is for the win. Johnny and Li'll be
Park Street, Tenna and Nordo for nine seating back to

(09:40):
this is crazy. We get eight Johnny and little Territory.
I know, sit bench.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
I was going to say bench the first time, and
I should have just done it. We would have won.
It's perfect. Now there at seventy nine, we have the
option the rest of the way. Indeed, I was hoping
it was over. It was not. I suppose you think
I said CD. I thought maybe I did an enunciate it.

(10:07):
But do you think it was like a D instead
of a T. When I said that, I was thinking seeding. Yes,
with the T. I heard that as well. Yeah, I
figured when I said it. But I could have also
just used my brain and thought seating. Well, okay, we're fine,
that's all right. Not a lot of brain usage going
on today in this game. Let's go li'll Be.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
This is on match point they'll be and Johnny leads
seventy nine to sixty four. iPad goes over to lill
Be and Nordo. The password is orange. Well I'm going
to go first. I mean, yeah, sorry, yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Okay, Well you had acquisitive. Look, so I was hoping
it'd be. But go ahead. I'm just saying this is
going to be a dumb clue. But that's fine. Nordo
and Tenna for ten Syracuse Orange. Yeah, you know what
I mean. Okay, all right, it gets to the point
where they're so obvious I'm questioning myself.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, one more here. Whoever gets to what's this one?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Is gonna win? Most likely? I need to snap this loser.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Ny right here, I'm trying seventy nine seventy four iPad
goes over to Tenna and Johnny, Man, why did I
write these?

Speaker 1 (11:21):
The password is jar?

Speaker 2 (11:32):
All right, my final time hosting password will be end
with Tenna.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
You doing what you the option and go second, Johnny,
and they'll be for the win.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Receptacle trash, Nordo and Tenna for the win.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Jelly jar. Yeah, still stuck at ninety eight over there

(12:25):
a little bit. Oh my goodness, what you have seventy nine?
That all that work, all that work, all that effort
that you put letting them get to seventy nine was
the best thing we could have done. Their options were done.
That was fun. Great game, guys, Great game, guys, Great game.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
Cheez.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Tremendous game. We'll play the advanced version again next Friday. Johnny,
thank you so much for coming. Appreciate it well, seeing
another like year or two back on the show. Yeah,
I think so, twenty twenty seven. I'm free. You have
any big stories coming up at the Athletic You want
to talk.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
About a lot of good Wolf's coverage coming up next week?

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Some uh an ant story. We got a few other
things cooking, so watch it closely. But Alec is over
in London with the Vikings right now, Russo and Joe
Smith on the Wild, So yeah, we got everything covered
by Riso is joining me in about fifteen minutes, so
we'll talk a wild with him, and then on Nordo
Vikings fan Line Sunday.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Vikings Fan Line Round Nuonish twelve thirty meter Ron Johnson
hopefully covering. It's a weird game, man, I think, I mean,
this could be like the ugliest game we've seen in
a couple of years. Or Ko figures it out against
this Browns team that gives the defense is crazy, but
the offense, man, let's go get Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
We're going to celebrate a victory, I hope so, and
they'll be you're gonna just continue being a smoke show.
And you if people want to spend money at the fan,
what should they do? You contact to you? Yeah, they
should talk to me. Yeah, they want to spend money. Yeah,
if you want to spend money on the great password
game that we just saw Sunday, Yeah, a little bkfe
and on Twitter. All right, thanks guys, appreciate it. Thank you.
We're going to try to fit in. Are you smarter

(13:56):
than a Packers fan? Call us right now? Eight found out.
Yes you are eight hundred three two zero five three
two six, eight hundred three two zero five three two six.
If you can beat Brett Blake Moore and are you
smarter than a Packers fan, you get a chance to
see the University of Saint Thomas take on North Dakota
on October twelfth at Grand Casine Arena. We'll play that
next right here on the ten of Fitzgerald.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Price Home Services has your shot at four tickets to
see Green Bay take on the Purple in early January,
plus five hundred dollars in game day cash Reddiship for
your chance to win today kfaan dot com slash furnace
answer today, kfan dot com slash furnace.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
All right, time to play. Are you smarter than a
Packers fan? We have a five categories, two questions for each.
You have to see for smarter than a Packers fan.
If you are, you will win a pair of tickets
to see the University Saint Thomas take on North Dakota
on October twelfth at Grand Casino Arena. Charlie, you're gonna
play are you smarter than a Packers fan?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Today?

Speaker 1 (14:51):
How you doing, Charlie? I'm good? How are you good?
Just one second, I'm gonna talk to Tom and Wes,
Saint Paul, quick to Saint Paul. How are you? I'm great?
How about you good? You're not playing the day. But
if Brett Blakemore takes down Charlie and Prior Lake, he
is playing for you. You will win those tickets. Understand

(15:13):
loud clear, all right, I'll put you back on holds.
All right. So, Charlie, here's how it works. You've got
five different categories science, geography, history, math, general knowledge. You're
reaching to gate one question each and whoever gets the
most questions is going to win this game. Are you
ready to play? At Charlie? I'm ready, all right, We're
gonna start with science. Charlie, do you want to do question
one or question two? I'll let you choose question one.

(15:38):
Question one, all right, Charlie, what is the chemical symbol
for gold? What is the chemical symbol for gold? Chemical
symbol for gold?

Speaker 3 (15:53):
I'll go with.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Au. You are correct. Yeah, wow, I think you were
very common with You just took a shot in the
dark at that and then he nailed it. Nice job, Charlie,
you are correct. All right, Brett, Charlie's got one. You've
got question number two here? Which human organ is primarily
responsible for filtering blood? Which human organ is primarily responsible

(16:19):
for filtering blood? Filtering blood?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
That's what I said, yes, so I'm the first thing
was hard, but then you said filtering, not pumping. So
I'm gonna go I think is a kidney.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah, that is correct. We got to tie one to
one between Charlie and our packers, Fan, Brett, We're gonna
let you make the decision here. We're gonna do geography.
Would you like question one or question two? I'll go
to all right, Brett, which two continents are entirely in
the Southern Hemisphere. Which two continents are entirely in the

(16:55):
southern hemisphere, well, Australia.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
And then technically Antarctica.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
You were sweating that one, weren't you a little bit?
All right? Packer fans got to Charlie, You're gonna have
the other geography question. What is the capital? What is
the capital city of Canada? Oh, I'll go with Montreal.

(17:29):
Hold on my button, bar Froze. There is there steals involved.
There is steals involved. Brett, will let you answer this one.
I am a hockey fan and I know that Ottawa.
You correc yes. All right, Charlie, you're down three to
one after four questions, we have six more to go.
Next up as history, Charlie, would you like question one
or question two? For history? Let's go question one again?

(17:53):
All right, Question one. I was really hoping Brett was
going to get this question. I was wondering if his
if his age would throw him off here. The Cold
War was mainly between the US and which other country? Russia?
We'll give it to you the Soviet Union.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
You are correct?

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Yeah, all right, it's three two in favor of Brett. Brett,
you get the other history question. Who was the first
woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean? I have to
imagine it was Amelia Earhart. Yeah, that was. I love
how you're getting him right, but you also still are
like questioning yourself on these.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Well because I know her, but I know her from
disappearing more than I know her from being the first.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
So I just educated guess all right, we have four
more questions to go, Brett, you lead four to two.
Our next question is math. Would you like question one
or question two? Spoil it?

Speaker 2 (18:45):
It doesn't matter which one it is. I'm getting it wrong.
Let's let's go one. Question one?

Speaker 1 (18:50):
What is the value of seven squared plus five squared?
No chance? What is the value of seven squared plus
five squared?

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Well, well, hang on, seven scorns, so seventy five plus
twenty five if I am math is correct, so Sony,
that'd be one hundred.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
No, no, no, time I told you I was getting wrong.
I can't. Charlie, would you like to get to steal here?
This is a big moment for you in this game.
You got a chance to turn this game back around.
You can steal what is the value of seven squared
plus five squared? Seventy four? Forty? I had my math?

(19:32):
Do you know how squared works?

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Right?

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Do?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
But here's the thing. I'll just ask Siri and it'll
tell me seven square forty nine five squared is twenty five.
You had them together, that is seventy four. Charlie, all
of a sudden, you have a chance to tie this thing.
Here's your math question, Charlie. A shirt costs forty dollars
and is on sale for twenty five percent off. What
is the sales price?

Speaker 5 (19:55):
Thirty dollars? You correct?

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, Charlie knows math.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
You know what's sad is that maybe like the fifth
most embarrassing thing I've done on this show.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
So it's not even that big of a deal. I
don't even know what we do if there's a tiebreaker here,
to be honest with you, So Charlie, you've got four,
Brett's got four. We are now into the general knowledge section. Charlie,
would you like question one or question two? Question one?
All right, Charlie, A heptagon has how many sides? Heptagon?

(20:32):
A heptagon? You're going with six?

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Brett, you can steal I can take control of this game.
I don't know. I know it's not five, six, seven,
definitely not eight. The only thing is it could be
like nine or I'll go nine. Yeah, it's not deca,
it's not it's seven.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Heptagon is seven? Oh all right, I comfortably say that
it wasn't seven, and there it is. Uh so we're
on Brett here right, yes, all right, So Brett, here's
what we're gonna do. Well, no, well, we'll get a chance, Charlie,
chance steal. So it's four four. Whoever gets this question right, Brett,
you're gonna get the kick the first kick of the

(21:20):
can here, okay? Is the victory? Is the victor? All right? Brett?
What planet has the most moons? Whoa what planet has
the most moons?

Speaker 2 (21:30):
It would be very Packers like to tie this game,
it would I'm gonna go with Saturn.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Your money, you know what else? You're a big winterday
night the Packer fan has one. Saturn is the correct answer.
And Charlie, unfortunately you lost to a Packer fan. You
should spend the rest of your weekend in shame. Sorry, Charlie.
Tom and West Saint Paul, a Packer fan, has wanted

(22:00):
for you. You are going to head to a grand casino
arena in October twelfth to see the Tommies. Let's destroy
the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Congratulations, Thank you very much.
My buddy is coming with me. Let's go. All right,
I'll put you on hold, Tom Bright, I'll take your information.
We're going to talk with Michael Russo of The Athletic
about the Minnesota Wild next right here on the fits.

(22:30):
All right, welcome back, final segment of the ten of Fitzgerald.
Don't worry the comming man. I'll be back on Monday now.
Please to be joined by Minnesota Wild. Beat writer for
The Athletic. That would be Michael Russo. Hello, Michael, how
are you?

Speaker 2 (22:44):
What up?

Speaker 5 (22:44):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I'm doing good.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
You know.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
I think the Caroka Presoft contract negotiations have taken a
lot of the headlines. There's kind of a contract situation
that really has gotten not a lot of attention, and
I think it's kind of interesting. And that would be
the Philip Gustosen situation, right because he's in the same
boat capriceoff is where he's a free agent at the
end of the year. I kind of find it interesting
on both sides of this, Michael, because on one hand,

(23:08):
like he's been a pretty good goalie in two of
the three years. He's still young, right, Like typically you
want to lock up a young goalie he's been playing
that well. On the other hand, his backup was kind
of thought to be the goalie of the future coming
off a bad year in Iowa. But I know, maybe
with this one you want to go into the season
a little bit and see what you got out of
him before committing full term to Gusta. Where where are

(23:30):
we at with the gust Bus contract negotiations?

Speaker 5 (23:34):
Where we're at is is it hasn't started yet. I
envision that will be next and probably pretty soon. You know,
they want to get it done, you know, And it's
it's sort of similar obviously as you as you kind
of alluded. I mean, it's not Corol Caprice offt but
it's sort of similar in the fact of what's the
alternative if you don't get him done. If you look

(23:57):
at the group three free agents next summer, it is
absolutely barren, you know, other than Stuart Skinner who might
be resigned by Edmonton. Uh, there's really nobody out there.
There's no true number ones out there if they don't
get Gustus and done. So, I you know, kind of
similar to Caprisa. He's got the hammer, especially in light
of the fact that goalie contracts right now are just

(24:18):
absolutely through the roof. I mean it is between essentially
six to eight million dollars. The second that Spencer Knight
got five point eight from Chicago, you knew that, you
that we're talking six and a half seven even more
for Gus to sin. So I think they're going to
have to get it done, you know, and it look,
if Valstad has a great year, there's it's not illegal
to have two really good goalies have assets that way.

(24:41):
Maybe eventually you move them, but at a minimum, you
know that you have Valstat here signed for two point
two million the next couple of years. So if you know,
if you have a couple of goalies making you know,
less than nine, that's not that's not the worst thing
in the world in a rizing cap world. So I
think that they're going to try, regardless of whether you
know they know or don't know enough about Vaalstate yet,

(25:01):
I think they're going to try to still be motivated
to get Augustuson done. But his agent's got the hammer
right now in the wild. I think probably know.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
That what have you seen from Valstad so far? Because
like I mentioned, you know, one point you have thought
to be the top goalie prospect in all of the
National Hockey League. Bad year last year in Iowa, I'm
assuming he's pretty motivated coming into the season. What have
you seen from him so far in training camp and
in the preseason games.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, I think he's looked good. I mean, he played
two games against Winnipeg, and both games he gave up
a couple early goals. The goals, especially in the second game,
weren't great goals. But yet the one thing he has
done that is much much better than we saw in
Iowa is that he settles in. He doesn't let it
crater the rest of his game, and in both games

(25:46):
he was lights out the rest of the way, especially
in the second game against Winnipeg, where, yeah, they didn't
bring Mark Schifley and Kyle Connor down here, but they
had the rest of their NHL lineup for the most part,
and he shut it down. He made nine saves on
the penalty kill, so you know, on a four for
four penalty kill before Marcus Felino's game winning goal. He
made two great saves on that power play by the Jets,

(26:07):
So you know, I think he's earned the spot. Cal
Peterson's looked really good in camp as well. But cal
is almost certainly going to be put on waivers here
in the next couple of days, provided there's no injuries
tonight in Chicago, and you know, and they'll start with
Volstad and Gustison. But I like so far what I've
seen from from Wally. He seems to, you know, have

(26:27):
a really good attitude. He seems to realize that that
he you know, he's not making excuses for the way
that last year went, He's putting it behind him. He
came into camp and outstanding shape, just like Gustison, and
I think that they could be a really good tandem
as long as Wally continues to look like we've seen
in the preseason, and frankly, Guss looks better than we've
seen in the preseason, and he'll get a big test

(26:48):
tonight in Chicago.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
All Right, One final goalie question, what kind of an
impact does the lack of Marc Andre Fleury now have
in that locker room? Did you think do you think
anything change with not having a guy like that who
keeps the room light has won some Stanley Cups? And
then follow up question, I saw a national writer go
right that he thinks that once we get into January

(27:10):
and February, he thinks teams are going to be calling
for Marc Andre Fleury to try to get convince him
to come back and help him with a playoff run.
So if you get address both sides of that Marc
andre Fleury question, I'd appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
Well. The latter, I mean, that is something that I've
been alluding to for a while. I actually think that that.
I mean, look, he had five offers on July one.
I think really had an offer earlier in training camp
yep wow of people trying to get him out of retirement.
So I do think that two people are going to
lure him. I think his agent would take calls and

(27:42):
then we'll see where it goes. So one thing I'll
say about Mark Andre is I don't think he's going
to want to leave his family. So frankly, the only
real team that I see that would have an opportunity
to maybe sign him as Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (27:54):
I mean, you know, I just don't see that he
would want to leave here for three or four or
five months. And again, the goal would be to go
to June, so six months. If all of a sudden,
the team started calling him in the in the second
part of the calendar. So, you know, my gut says
that the only way that he would come back was
if it was here, and I just don't think that

(28:16):
he's gonna want to. The one thing is he keeps
himself in an unbelievable shape. He really probably would only
need a couple of weeks to get into game shape,
game game ready. So the only way it would happen
is if the Wild really had injuries or poor performance
by one of their two goaltenders. So you know, I
think still it's probably a long shot. But look, to
answer your first question, you know, he might not be

(28:37):
in the locker room every second, but he is around
every day. He's come to every single day of training
camp so far, other than the two days that he
was in Pittsburgh for the for the big reunion there.
He is going on the ice almost every morning with
the injured guys, take shots from them. So you know
he's he's still around. You know, he's still playing pranks

(28:59):
and all that stuff. His or is going to be
here for a while. You know, as as I mentioned
when he first got here, he's building his dream home,
retirement home in Vegas, and before it was even done
he sold it. And now he's staying here full time.
Kids are here in school, all that stuff. So he is,
he's in Minnesota now and and you know he'll be

(29:21):
around this organization for a long long time.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Those hockey players love to raise their kids here in Minnesota.
You ever notice that? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Absolutely? I mean so, you know what, what wouldn't you
like about it? You know, you got John Krasinski here,
you got the accent. You know, we all of us transplants.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Love many Yes. I want to ask you about Vladimir Tarasenko, right,
I think there's a lot of questions about him when
when the Wild made the trade. With the trade, now
that you've seen him in a Wild uniform and training
camp and a couple of pre season games, Uh, what
is your expectation for Tarasenko this season?

Speaker 5 (29:53):
You know, I think that my expectation is for him
to get twenty five goals or so. Whether he does
that will depend on a lot of things. One, you know,
can they find a winner that really helps produce On
the other side, to this point, we haven't seen it.
I think you're off is getting another look there tonight
in Chicago Ogre and had a look earlier in camp.
The two of them have produced in practice, but we
haven't seen it in games yet. But Tarasenko in his

(30:16):
first two preseason games was not very good at all,
and so and I don't really remember any scoring chances. So,
you know, I think that if he wants to resurrect
himself and get a contract past the season, he's gonna
need to play much much better than than he has
so far. But the one thing I'll say is that
for the most part, veterans don't love playing in the preseason,

(30:38):
so I don't think that that's really indicative yet of
what we're going to see. And so I still from
what I've seen so far, and actually at eleven am
as opposed to seven PM, I really like what I
see from him so far. He's coming in great shape,
he's coming with a great attitude. He's you know, really
embraced being a mentor to guys like you're off. So

(30:59):
I really do like what I've seen from him before
the games. Now it's a matter of getting him into
the games. And uh, we'll see his first game with
the Minnesota Wild. It's gonna be in Saint Louis. You
know it's gonna be extremely motivated to play that game.
So I still believe that for a guy that's motivated
to get a contract pass this year, that we're going
to see the best of him this year.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
All Right, I want you to give me a percent chance
that you're Off is on the opening night roster, and
a percent chance that Ogrin is on the opening night roster.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
I think it's one hundred and one hundred. Oh really,
barring injury tonight in Chicago. I think both guys make it.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
By the way, you can't say I think it's one hundred.
If it's a hundred done, you know, yeah, okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
I think he I think they're both on the team.
That's the expectation from inside the Wild. Look, Tyler Pittlick.
At some point here in the next couple of days. Again,
everything's barring injury tonight, right, he's gonna be put on waivers.
I think the bigger, most interesting question is Hunter hate
versus Vinnie henats Strozen. I think that ear Off is
on this team. I mean the second they got rid

(32:01):
of Brettleson on the PTO who did nothing in camp,
you just knew that Ogrin and you're off, We're gonna
make it. And now the question is what do they
decide as a thirteenth forward. Do they want the young
kid but maybe not playing, or do you want just
the veteran not slide them through waivers, maybe start hunting
the miners and kind of slow play that Hunter has
looked great in camp. Vinnie started off really good. I

(32:23):
think he's tailed off a little bit, so we'll see.
To me, that's the bigger thing. Then tonight they you know,
today they grab Damon Hunt off waivers, they'd let Jack
Johnson on the PTO go and that what that tells
me is they know that Jonas berdem probably is not
going to start the season healthy. And then it's just
a matter of okay, you have Hunts ass insurance if

(32:45):
you're a check in boy, and both make it assumingly.
And then once Brodian's back, what do they do with Hunt?
Do they keep eight defenseman or do they try to
put you know, do they put your check down on
the miners or do they put Hunt back on waivers
and then give Columbus a chance to take them back.
And then if Columbus takes them back and nobody else
puts in a waiver plan, they could actually put them
right to the miners. They'd be the only team that
would be allowed that. So, you know, Damon Hunts got

(33:09):
claimed today. It doesn't mean that he's going to be
here forever. Let's put that way.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
I do find it funny though, that a lot of
people there were I shouldn't say lot pop there were
some people that were upset about Damon hunt being included
in that year check traate and now he's technically back
on the roster here less than a year later.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
Yeah, and you know what I mean, he's a good player.
He had a really good camp. I talked to them
the last couple of days actually, because I kind of
saw this coming. He had a really good camp at Columbus.
But they had, you know, like the same problem here
is that he had seven one way contracts in front
of them, and they didn't want to keep eight d
so they try to slide him through waivers and obviously
it didn't work.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Back to Europ specifically, right, he was kind of the
little bit of the mystery. We've seen a little bit
of ogrin. He was in Iowa last year, you're playing
in Russia. It seems like sometimes we just we don't
have access to being able to watch them at all
and don't have as much contact with them. So from
what little you've seen here of eurov and you say
he's one hundred percent chance to make on the roster,

(34:04):
what have you liked and disliked about his game thus far?

Speaker 5 (34:08):
You know, there's very little that dislike. The one thing
I will say is that he's just gotten progressively better
throughout camp. Even the areas that they've really were a
little concerned about were puck battles in the corners, things
that maybe he didn't have to do a lot of
in the KHL. He's just slowly worked on that. And
the other night in his last game against Winnipeg, I

(34:28):
thought that he was coming away with pucks, not getting
knocked off pucks, all that stuff. It's going to be
a work in progress for a twenty one year old
that's never played North American pro hockey, he has not
produced yet. But the one thing about him is defensively,
he is trustworthy. We saw him out there on the
five on six the other night. He doesn't cheat the
game at all. So he looks to me like he's

(34:48):
going to be a really solid two way forward in
the NHL, maybe a middle six guy. I don't think
he's got the so far. I haven't seen the flashes
that make him look like he's going to be a
true top liner. But I really like what I see,
and again he's twenty one. I think the production will
come with time. You know, people always forget Miko Koivu
his first year, played on the fourth line, scored five goals,

(35:10):
didn't have a goal from like December fifteenth until like
the last game of the season. His rookie year. He's
playing with guys like Derek Buguard and Kyle Wean vig
Wan Veg his first year, So I were well and
bring yeah, I mean exactly, there's a good example. So
it doesn't come right away. And Nko is a great

(35:31):
example because he's the all time leading scorer in wild history.
And you know, here's a guy that scored you know,
minuscule points his first year and he was two three
years older than Danello. You're off is so I think
the production will come, but he doesn't hurt you. The
one player that I'd love to see more of is
Liam Ober and you know he's got this NHL shot.
But we just haven't seen him finish so far in camp.

(35:54):
The other night in again it was I believe it
was the Winnipeg game or was the game before that,
he had three great a chances on the power play,
wasn't able to finish. You just want to see him
at some point start producing. Just you know, again, he's
also only twenty one years old, but you know, this
is somebody that's played North American pro hockey. Had a

(36:15):
bun you know, looked to me in Iowa last year,
really took a step from a point production standpoint. So far,
we haven't seen that yet in the preseason.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
A couple more questions from Michael Russo of the Athletic.
The Wild take on the Blackhawks to night in Chicago
for their final preseason game. Michael, will this be the
year that we finally have a competent penalty kill?

Speaker 5 (36:36):
You know, I'm doing a big story on brock Favor
for Monday's Athletic. Can we talk a lot about the
penalty kill in there? I think that's the hope. I
think it's really cool that Matt Boldie, remember Mitt Boldie,
what two or three days in the camp last year,
The goal was hint for him to be on the
penalty kill all year long, but he broke his foot,
didn't play another minute in the rest of the preseason,

(36:58):
and so because that, they essentially didn't put him on
the PK because he was even though he was in
the meetings, he got no reps and things like that,
and we really didn't see it until after the trade deadline,
and he was outstanding. He's looked incredible on the penalty
kill so far throughout camp. You know, they're adding guys
like year Off on the penalty kill. Rossi's been great
on the penalty kill. So I think that that is

(37:19):
the hope now, is that we're going to start to
see a much much better penalty kill. They've changed some
of their tactics, but it's got to be much much better.
It's amazing that they made the playoffs last year with
a penalty kill, as god awful as it was, and
it was actually essentially worse than it was two years ago.
And remember the whole point of training camp last year,
or the beginning the theme of training camp was to

(37:41):
fix the PK and it just never came into fruition. So,
you know, they got off to a great start last
year in spite of it, and and I think the
goal is obviously to fix that, and maybe you know,
having threats like Goldie out there could help them.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
You know, last year there was a stretch where I
think Wild fans were probably ready to move on from
Ryan Harton and maybe maybe members of the front office
for as well, when you know, just just kind of
dumb penalties in the upportune times, is suspended, not available
for games, and then he comes out and was one
of your best players in the playoffs and the main
reason Marco Rossi was sent down to the fourth line.

(38:18):
Do you think, from what you've seen of Hartman so far,
has the light bulb come on, like can this playoff
performance carry over moving forward or do you still have
worries about him and his consistency moving forward?

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Well, I think I think it's two different questions. One
the discipline and two the light bulb and him reverting
to the way he was three or four years ago
when he scored thirty four goals. You know, the one
thing about Ryan is that you never like, it's kind
of similar to Matt Cook, like, I'm never going to
just say the light bulbs come on from a discipline

(38:50):
standpoint and he's just not going to do something stupid
on the ice. I mean, you know, last year, he
knows what his history is. And last year he still
was a you know over and almost got a ten
game suspension. It was lowered to eight after a grievance
was filed or an appeal was filed. But as to
your point, at that point, management wanted to shoot him

(39:12):
to the sun, and it looked like a aforementioned like
it was guaranteed that they were going to get rid
of him. And then he was just unbelievable in the
playoffs and that changed absolutely everything in terms of the narrative.
So in terms of the discipline, he like, he's always
going to play the game on an edge, so he's
always at a risk of probably crossing the line. I

(39:33):
think that he knows that he's got to tone that
down because he is a marked man by the Department
of Player Safety in terms of the way that he
played in the playoffs. That is what he is supposed
to look like he has. That's why he's earned such
a long tenure here in Minnesota because that's really the
real Ryan Hartman. And so if he could center this
third line like he has so far, in camp where
I think he's looked outstanding. I think that he is

(39:56):
going to really add a lot to this team. He's
also somebody that we have seen is able to move
up if there's a chance that maybe Eck needs to
get off that second line or the first line, or
we'll see. So he's coming in great shape, Tanna, and
I just think that he's gonna really have a good season.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Thank you, Michael. Look forward to reading all your stuff
at the Athletic all season long. We appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (40:16):
Yup see Brandon all Right.
