Speaker 1 (00:00):
Reaction drome.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Now, if you thought the end of that song rock
bottom are UFO very appropriate unidentified flying objects which is
basically the Vikings chances of winning the divisions, that's kind
of went out the window. Uh, but you heard at
the very end there where there was a little If
that had been live in concert, that would have went
on for another five minutes. But that's another story in itself. Yep,

(00:33):
even that's all, folks. Can you find that sound bite
anywhere it's from? It's porky Pig, I think, isn't it
from Warner Brothers? Even if that's all, folks, and that
was it, it was a.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Game set match.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
You use whatever cliche you want to. As far as
I know, the one I love using is didn't the
lights draw the curtain and fade to black?

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Because it was The coach summed it up quite succinctly
in his that's off fos, throw that somewhere on the
old button bar. Wonder which one we could dump off of? Uh,

(01:25):
they're all so good.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
You know, I don't really need cash in cash out
save cash in cash out. I don't use it very often,
but throwing. But but that's all, folks, because we'll be
using that a lot, I think as uh.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
As the season progresses. Montage. Yeah, a couple of people.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Were wondering where that was. Well, you don't do that
till it's officially over. I mean you could say, I
mean it's unofficially over, you think, I mean, I find
it hard to believe. From what I saw. It was
complete and total beat down from the from the start
to the very end. I mean, you know, it looked
like the Vikings were going to get off to a
nice start when zay Roj looked like he had he

(02:11):
had to pick six, and then upon further review, they
say he did not have control of the football. And
I don't know tenn to be. I mean, I don't
think it would have made a difference anyways. You know,
there there will be people, there will be diehards that'll say,
what seven nothing, We're going to be all over? Well maybe,
I but I just don't think that would have made
any difference at all. The booth official whoever not not? Uh,

(02:39):
who's who is the guy they have in the booth
for a prime video? You know, the official that that
that reviews the place for the broadcast crew. I can't
remember his name. Yeah, the Periri type. He said he
didn't think there was enough evidence to overturn it. I'm
just telling you that's like, you know, the old It's
like throwing a deck chair off the ten of Fitzgerald.
It just isn't going to make a difference. I don't

(03:00):
think it makes any difference in the output.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
The Chargers were better in all fast sets, all phases game.
That being said, you know that is a pretty significant play.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I don't think it changed the outcome of the game.
Probably doesn't, but you never know, No it doesn't. That's
where they.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Changes the mentality of the game and changes the belief
in your team.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
If that's if you want to if you want to
believe that one. I got some motion front property.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Near so I'd mostly agree with you.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Well, it's one hundred percent that there There was nothing
there that would that that would not have made that
would not have changed the game plan for San Diego,
which was basically run the ball down their throat, throw
the ball at will.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
That is a bad defensive unit.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
It's really bad, and the acquisitions they made in the
off season aren't any good. Winch shouldn't even have been playing.
He was in such pain. There was No, that was
just him being a tough guy. And as a coach
you have to say you're not playing, we're starting bros.
Or you can't play the guy like that. I think
it did affect is a fact. He's not any good anyway.
We know.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
That's why he was on the couch and they had
to call him.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
But that's that's there was no excuse. They have no
running game, offensive lines and shambles. Again, dari Saw couldn't go.
He tried what two series he was out. O'Neil apparently
shouldn't have been back last week because now from what
they tell me that they think last week because he
played every snap he was favoring his right knees and

(04:16):
I was left knee is all sore. And so there
there's some that's all folks. That's the way hold On
is even even there yet?

Speaker 1 (04:25):
No, no, I can't get it on the bucket. But
even if it's all folks, and so, well, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
And I've got I got hundreds, hundreds, hundreds of emails,
maybe not one hundreds, but I've got a number to
get to. There's plenty to talk talk about today. We
got a full day too. Matter of fact, we could
take some talkbacks. Why don't we try that.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
If you have the.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Arheart Radio app, great, If you don't download, it's free,
then you search stations by by the way, put it
on your presets. And then when you when when you
download the Arhart Radio app, if you haven't already, fine
uh kfa N and then you'll see a microphone icon
in the corner of the screen. You TAPA, you got
thirty seconds or less to deliver a safe text message.

(05:07):
The reason I'd like to do that today and lean
on that a little bit is because no rosion today,
no little be today, no program password today, no koc
with the day after the game news conference. So with
none of that available, we're going to talk a lot
of vikings, and of course there are other topics we
need to get to as well, so we'll do all
of that. But right now as we take a break
at tennabe, you have a keyword for our national cash content.

Speaker 3 (05:31):

Speaker 1 (06:12):
A couple of thirteen fourteen pass common man on program
on comedies tend to.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Be Vikings destroyed last night by the Chargers in every way,
shape or form.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Is that's off OUs.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
As as bad a loss as there has been in
the Kevin O'Connell era. I think I was picking through
Ben Gesling's a recap of the game. Fish rep Factory
west Side highlighted a couple of paragraphs, including this one
that says the Vikings were outclassed in every phase and
exceeded in every metric by the Chargers, who gained twenty

(06:49):
nine first dollars, ran for two hundred and seven yards,
didn't punt once, and held the ball for thirty nine minutes.
LA had ten plays of fifteen yards or more, seven
of those in the first half when quarterback Justin Herbert
strafed the middle of the Vikings defense and gained fifty
one yards on five scrambles of his own. The Chargers

(07:11):
had four drives of nine plays or more. Their longest drive,
a ninety four yard march in the second quarter, ended
with Herbert Loft in a twenty seven yard touchdown passover
Jeff Acutah's head for Lad mcconkee's score to put them
up twenty one to three. Those numbers are astonishing to me.
And if you think the Chargers have a good offense,

(07:33):
wait till the kiddies get home. It's a pick your
score next week unless something changes dramatically, and I don't
know how it can, because this defensive performance doesn't seem
like it was a one off to me. I mean
they were bad again. I know, they only gave up
twenty one points against Philly yesterday. Last week, you know,
the fourth tutty was the was the pick six. But

(07:54):
they allowed a quarterback last week to record a perfect QBR.
They couldn't stop him, and the same thing happened again.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Last night.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
It says here the Vikings, who finished the game with
guards Donovan Jackson and Will Frieses are only healthy starters
on the offensive line, have given up thirty eight sacks
and nine games during the twenty twenty five calendar year
and ran just eleven times for thirty four yards against
a Chargers team that had allowed five point one yards

(08:32):
per carry this season, and so obviously getting Aaron Jones back.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
We talked about it yesterday.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I said, always good to get back healthy players, and
your your starters. I mean, Aaron Jones is considered the
starting running back, but he made no difference in the game.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
And I won't put it all on him. It's that
offensive line. It is it is. Did you know who
led the team in rushing last night?

Speaker 4 (08:58):
No?

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Who did Xavier got? He had two carries in garbage
time for sixteen yards.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Says here the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
This year, the Vikings have given up at least one
hundred and thirty rushing yards to four opponents, with the
Chargers two hundred and seven yards are passed only by
the Falcons two eighteen. On September fourteen, the Chargers were
content to bully the Vikes with fullbacks and tight ends,
gaining five point four yards per play with two tight
ends and two running backs on the field. According to

(09:30):
NFL Next Gen Stats, the Vikings struggled to crowd big
running back Kamani Vidal, whose gained seventy four of his
one hundred and seventeen yards after contact. That's according again
in next gen stats as players stood with hands on
hips fighting a tea between play. Both units are are

(09:51):
are just simply awful right now. But the defense surprises
me even more than the offense because look, but if
it had been McCarthy, I don't know how much better
the team would play. We saw McCarthy for two games.
He had one brilliant quarter, which gives you hope. The
other three, the other seven quarters, were not very good.
Wentz is Wentz. There's a reason Carson Wentz is Carson

(10:13):
Wentz because he was born to a family whose last
name was Wentz, and they decided to call him Carson.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
And remember he was a late addition to the roster.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
The Vikings had acquired Sam Howell was that on draft
day or near pickswap, because they thought he would be
an ideal backup quarterback. Once they went through training camp,
they decided he's not the guy, so they went out
and got Wentz. We talked about this a little bit
tien to me in the first segment. I don't even
know how Wentz is allowed to play last night. I
mean the and I you know, for boll is a

(10:44):
tough guy game.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I get that.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
And my guess is Wentz. You saw Wentz Winz over, Yes, over,
And I don't think it was milking. And I don't
think he was trying to do I'm playing bad. I
want people to know him in pain. I'm thinking he's
taking a beating out there. All guys want to play.
We know that's how it is in the NFL. Man
you play well.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
I don't know if that case of those Vikings teams,
well it's a badge of honor. Well yeah, maybe it's
not the case of their left tackling.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Well, but if yeah, But I'm not I'm not ready
to suggest that the left tackle is soft and not playing,
because if his knees bad, you don't want it to
buckle again.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I'm not ready to go there.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
If other people want to say he's soft and doesn't play,
that's fine.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I'm not ready to say that because I'm not in
his shoes.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
He goes to show you where whence is how he
wanted to play last night? And I guess if you
want to play, I mean, you know, the coach said,
I saw the quotes. She said he checked with the
medical staff and with Wins a couple of times, and
he said I'm good to go, and it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
It was interesting.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
There was the one time he was sacked and he
went off and it looked like, well he might have
to have his arm and shoulder completely amputated, and then
he was smiling and laughing on the sideline, so he was.
He He rebounded quite quite quickly after that play.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
But when you're down three scores in the fourth quarter
and he's in pain every time he got the field,
you got.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
H And they did.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
They finally did. They finally went bro. I don't know
what time they went with ros I was dozing in. Yeah,
I got to admit I was dozing in and out.
I did not see all of the second half. I
think the Vikings were dozing in and out, and they
played like they were sleepwalking through the game. But it
it's and now people will get their wish. The people

(12:23):
that wanted to see McCarthy, they said this season. There
were people that two or three weeks ago, God bless them.
I guess they predicted their seers. They said, the season's over.
We're not going anywhere here, So we got to see
what we have. McCarthy, you and I were a bit more. Well,
you can't give up on the season, just quite Yeah.
Hell they were three and two at the time, then
they were three and three, so you have to play

(12:45):
it out.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
A little bit. You just have to. And that's the
way the organization is going to play.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
A team is not going to give up on the season,
at least publicly when they're three and three. Now with
three and four and Whens is a shell of his
former self, and I don't know how long it would
take that shoulder, even if they wanted to play wins.
How much better is he going to get between now
and next Sunday. Probably not very much.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
So now you're gods of him giving you the best
things to win at this point. Yes, the last two weeks,
that's it. That's exactly right. So now you know, you
go with McCarthy. So people are going to see what
they put it this way.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
God bless McCarthy back there against that with with that
offensive line, because he's going to be in big Trump.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
He's gonna be running for his life back there.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
And then you know, we talk about this all the
time about quarterbacks getting the confidence crushed when they're putting
a situation. I mean, you know, I know there were
times Wentz probably hung onto the ball too long, but
you saw the rush tend to be and if guys
aren't open, and you know, I know it again, I'm not,
I don't.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
I didn't break down.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
The twenty two or twenty two hy but it just
seems the philosophy of the Vikings is they'd like to
have pass patterns develop and go a little longer. Right,
So when you're trying to develop a little longer pass
patterns with two of the best wide receivers in pro football,
it's not going to give your quarterback much time to throw.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
And he had no time to throw.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
And then when you have no running game, there's no
play action fear it was, it's and.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Then that defense.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I And we'll talk more about that on the other
side of the break as well. We tall, we'll read
some emails, we'll take some text messages. I haven't checked yet,
and I'm sure we're getting a few talkbacks. We'll do
that as well. Vikings crushed. Who brought us peak at
the Purple? Oh, that's right, Peak at the Purple.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Jag take the stage.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Here's a text Mena says this one says the defense
has made worse by an offense that can't do anything.
They played seventy snaps I think last night, which is
about thirty to forty two many. I'll grant you that,
But they couldn't have been too tuckered because the first
time I'm over with San Diego took the ball for
the very first time in the game.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
How are they tired?

Speaker 2 (16:31):
It was a fourteen play, eighty three yard drive that
took seven minutes and thirty nine seconds. They're not tired.
Matter of fact, that was the first time they took
the field. Quit trying to bail out the defense. The
defense is awful, and I tried to tell people, and
I got ripped to the point where I cried myself

(16:51):
to sleep. At night when I came up with a
chant it might not be done at Tell. It might
be the personnel ed. Donna Tell.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Was the scapegoat, the fall guy.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
For the Minnesota Vikings back in O'Connell's first season when
they lost to the New York Football Giants in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
It's all O'Connell's fault.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Okay, all right, it's all Dona Teil's fault because he
doesn't the game's passed him by. He plays that cover
two stuff and that's that's ancient. We don't play that.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Anymore in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
And again I'm not blaming it all on the coach
because but it's it's it's just the idea that people
try to simplify things things and say, if we have
the right coach, voila all assault. We had NFL NFL
Coach of the Year. There are people that think, and
I'm not saying O'Connell's a bad coach, but what's happened.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Offense is awful.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
And again, there are there are injuries on that defensive line,
on that offensive line. The one offensive acquisition they made
in free agency's I guess that's panned out. I think
Fries we talked about this last week. Tend to be
I don't see grading on Fries. Maybe somebody can provide
it for me. He came in as a free agent
offensive lineman. He's played every game. He has not missed

(18:15):
a game. He's played every snap, so at least at
least he's playing, which is you can't say about the
center that we got. But the center does have concussion problems,
so I'm not I'm not suggesting he should play, but
he was injury prone before, so he's not helping us
at all. And then Darisaw can't stay healthy. O'Neil can't
stay healthy, and that'll happen sometimes, and so there are

(18:36):
some some unfortunate circumstances.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
The rookie quarterback can't stay healthy.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
I mean, he missed all of last year because of
a knee injury and knee surgery, and that will happen.
And now we as a high ankle sprain, a high
ankle sprain that's kept him out since Week two.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Is that September fourteen.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Game, I don't remember the exact date on it, but
I think that's September fourteen, because I think on the
twenty first we played the Falcons so he's been out
for over a month now. We think he'll come back
this week. I don't know how much of difference he
makes with the offensive line that we have in the
running game that we don't have. I don't see how
it's going to get much better with a young kid

(19:14):
who hasn't really seen, who's only seen real two games
of real NFL action.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
That's probably why they wanted him to be one hundred
percent before he got in, because with this offensive line,
you better have your mobility with you.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
After the touchdown, the Vikings were three and out.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
And then they Chargers put together an eight play fifty
nine yard drives. You know again, Yeah, sometimes the defense
is on the field too long, but they weren't doing
anything at the beginning of the game, the middle of
the game, or the end of the game.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
I'm not you know how you eliminate how long you're
out on the field, get off the field occasional, Well
that's it.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Yeah, force a three and out. Yeah, and they weren't.
They weren't.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
To their defense. They probably had to pick six early.
They got negated, but correct. They had one turnover as
they stood. Mattellus had had a pick and that was.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
The first turnover the defense has created since September twenty. First,
they would have been that Falcon game. I mean, that's
over a month of not creating a turnover. In Tennebe.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
It's the Bengals, the Bengals game.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, and and you know it's a it's a cliche,
but we love cliches, and generally, as you've heard me
say many times, you heard it here, first, cliches are
generally true.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Because the cliches are cliches because.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
They're generally true, and turnovers and big plays is generally what.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Decides games.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
A couple of emails at KIA common at KFE and
dot com last night.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
This one from Gary at eight thirty nine last night.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
It says, I've been looking for a football game that
was supposed to be played tonight, but all I can
find is an infomercial for chairs.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
So he and I don't know if he bought any
of those chairs. They probably get him at a cheap
price right now, but he did not say. Here's another.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
This one says This came at eleven fifty five last says,
I'm not saying the Vikings leadership made a mistake when
they sent Harball back to Michigan after.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
That interview a few years ago.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
But there was almost a symbolic vibe how awful they
look tonight going against him. And there's the fact that
Harbaugh was McCarthy's coach when they were hatching up his
grand plan to have him be.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
The future of his team.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I'm getting the feeling that the chaos honeymoon period is
coming to an end, and it could very well. I
think this town has fallen in love with Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
There are those I think.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
You, yes, you other than Andy Reid. I think you
basically called him the second or third best coach. I
don't remember who else you had up there, but you know,
Nick Siriani, Shanahan and others seem to have And it's
not all on chaos.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
It's not. But as we've talked about before, Tobe, we've
been led to.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Believe that in the contract negotiations, the four year extension
that O'Connell got, one of the things, as he wanted
to be assured of, was he had more say in
personnel decisions.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
I don't know we've talked about this to me.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
I was texted by a friend of mine who we
text and talk more than most people know about. Well,
this is on quazy because we're using free agents and
we don't have our draft picks haven't panned out. I
again would like to know, and I was going to
text liber and because I think libers he's got the
insight scoop on a lot of these things. But just

(22:27):
in general, how much does the general manager just provide
players to the coaching staff without any input from the
coaching staff or does the coaching staff have quite a
bit of input?

Speaker 1 (22:37):
You would think if.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
That was the request by O'Connell, then maybe coaches don't
have as much input as I thought they would have
if I was a GM, and maybe you would say, well,
then your shirked and your duties and your responsibilities, that's
your job. Why would you go for assistance from the
coaching staff? Do your research, find the players and draft them.
But I would want to know, Well, I'd like to

(23:00):
talk with my coaching staff and say what kind of
approach do you want to have on offense?

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Do we want to be a running team, do we
want to pass vertical passing game? You know?

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Do you think we need more offensive line? Are you
happy with the offensive line and we have right now?
Do we need a new running back and then I
can make my decisions a little more easily. And I
don't know how much input there is between O'Connell.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
Quay and connected as as far as I know.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
That's what they say to us B Flow And then
who is our offensive coordinator at least entitle only.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Phillips.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
And again I don't know how I mean, because we
know O'Connell calls all the plays, so I'm sure Phillips
does help with the game planning and all that, but
it's almost like it's.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
I don't know. I don't know how much to say
he has in personnel.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Either, but he he he He took the Twin Cities
by store.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
He was fourteen and three. We lost to the Giants.
That was unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Following year we replaced that that Donnadell was the fall.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
He was the fall guy.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
After the first year, they got rid of him and
brought in B Flow and B Flow's defense. That first year,
I don't know how good they were. We went seven
and nine, I think, but then the following year we
even we did we last year we won game better.
Even fourteen and three were because we were thirteen and
four of the first fourteen three and now we were
fourteen and three last year and the defense was very good.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I mean I think we were one of the top ranked.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
I had some numbers again here I think hold on Tenamy,
give me a moment.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
Yeah, there you go, I need that. Yes, this is
again from that Ben uh Ben Gesling.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
He says that the Vikings have struggled to restrain muscular
run game games and have grasped at mobile quarterbacks like
Caleb Williams, Jalen Hrson out Herbert. Their pass rush the
catalyst for so many of their twenty twenty four takeaways,
ranked thirteen and sacks before Thursday Night after finishing fifth
last year. Jonathan Allen, signed to a three year, fifty

(25:17):
one million dollar Dealers offseason, has only one and a
half sacks.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Javon Hargrave, who got a two year, thirty million.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Dollar contract, has two sacks and a seeing his playing
time receipt. So we were told by the Wilf Walllett
watchers that these two interior defensive linemen, we're going to
change things for us. We're going to get an inside
pass rush. That was what we were missing. That's where

(25:44):
we were told, and so we let Harrison Phillips go.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
We traded him.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
We didn't need any run stopping the ability anymore. We
needed to rush the passer. Well, as I just read,
hard Grave has only two sacks. He's seen his playing
time receipt in. Jonathan Allen has only a sack and
a half. So we're not getting that. We're not getting
any inside pass rush at least that is leading to sacks.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
It's so we only have one pass rusher. Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
And he was he was really good early until then
he got banged up too and did he leave the game?

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Guy?

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Then I doze off. But he was the only guy
in the field. There's two JG's, there's two jgs.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
On in this town that know what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
That would be Jonathan Garnard and Justin Gard Gernard and
you've got Justin Guard and a guy named Grenard. They
know what they're doing. He was the only guy that
was playing last night. Really, I mean, there's other guys
that may have made a difference here and there. You know,
there's probably a tackle here and I you know, sometimes
one player can attract attention to open things up for
another player. So not to say that, you know, all

(26:51):
the other ten guys were completely meaningless in the game.
But and you know what I said, I like the
jeff A Kudah acquisition just because it was a guy
that walked.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
We got him. We got him cheap, right, he was
dirt cheap.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
He had been a third pick overall out of the
Ohio State University for Detroit. Had bounced around a little bit.
Now we know why he bounced around a little bit.
There's just nothing there. And the only good thing is
they didn't have to waste a lot of money. They
didn't to spend a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
I think.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
They neglected their secondary thinking with b Flow and his
scheming and our pass rush. Our corners don't need to
be out there that long, right, because they kind of
neglected the secondary until June last year. We wentn't got
to get a bunch of old veterans to throw back there.
I think they got a little arrogant with how good

(27:41):
their defense is and how we don't need to go
out and spend money on this position.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Against the Colts on Sunday, the Chargers rushed sixteen times
for fifty four yards.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Okay, that's the Colts.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yes, the Vikings on Thursday the Chargers rushed forty three
times for two hundred and seven yards on their third
string back, Vadal, who rushed twenty three times for one
hundred and seventeen yards in a tuddy.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
He was on Deuce's fantasy team last night.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Well, that's exactly the when I was going to bring
up he's third string. They started the year with Amarion Hampton,
who they drafted highly, I believe in the second round.
They also had Najie Harris, who they got from Pittsburgh.
Those are their top two backs. So they they ran
all of us at their third string back the Pittsburgh Steelers,
and we played them. They had a bottom five rushing
team in the league and they were without their starter,

(28:32):
and Kenneth Gainwell ran all over us. So it's yeah,
it's one thing when Jean Robinson doesn't right when it's
Kamanie Vidal and Kenneth Gainwell, there's a deeper issue here.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
And I don't know what.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
You and I have said this a couple thirteen fourteen
times over the past couple of weeks. Coaches coach, players play.
Coaches do have to take responsibility. The coach did what
all coaches do. He said, we were outplayed, out coached.
I didn't have the team ready to play. It's such
a I don't know what a coach can do to
have a team ready to play. You know, I don't
even know what they mean by don't have them. Maybe

(29:15):
TeV you coached? What is it? It's like these are
all hot, these are highly played professional football players that
know what's at stake. What does the coach do to
have them? Or is it is he talking about game
plan or I don't know. But and the coach needs
to take his share of responsibility. And then as we
just read the text that or the email that says,

(29:37):
I'm getting the feeling that the honeymoon period is coming
to an end for KOC.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
I think we're still a ways away from that. I mean,
the guy he just he was just named coach of
the Year and that.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
And they did a really good job last year, there's
no question about that.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
And two years ago when they had that.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
The greatest comeback in the history of the National football
they had the great win over the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
They were winning games in.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
The last minute over and over again. They just laid
an egg in the playoffs. That's the other thing is
that the head coach.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Is zero and two in postseason play.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Yeah, I don't know if the honeymoon's over, But you know,
I think Koc has not been criticized a lot here.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
It's been mostly positive reviews.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
I mean, you get the occasional what's his record in
the playoffs, But for the most part, he's gotten very
positive reviews here. And I do think that's going to
start changing. And I do think he has rabbit ears
and he hears all this stuff. So I'm curious to
see how he reacts to a little bit of adversity
and not have everyone throwing rave reviews your way. You know,

(30:42):
the quarterback whisper namesake is going to take a little
bit of a hit. The way the season's going, I
don't know what's going on. You know, if his relationship
with b Flow is fractured at all, the way the
way the way that defense is performing right now, there's
I'm guessing you know, we didn't make much of a

(31:03):
story but at the time, but you talked about it earlier.
Of there was a note in Kos's contract reportedly that
he wanted more, say a personnel, So to me that
rings of well, there might be a little bit division
between him and the front office and how things are done,
and we didn't make we didn't say much about it
at the time because the team was winning and they
were doing well. But now it starts to maybe show

(31:24):
up on things like this.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Well and remind me, we do believe there was a
major fracture, earthquake like fraction between Zimmer and Spielman.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Wasn't there? Oh yeah, I mean that was so at
the end.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, oh yeah, So it does happen where general matters
and coaches.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
I feel like neither of them have really talked about
that the way that ended either exactly.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Neither one is has said much.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
And you know, at the crux of this, and we've
we've talked about this a lot too, Tiennaby, the team
think about how it's changed. Less than a year ago,
this team was one win away from winning the North,
in securing home field advantags.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Throughout the playoffs, the number one seed.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Darnald gets skittish, he plays poorly.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
They lose to the Lions.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
They go from a chance from to the one seed,
they drop to the fifth and then they get beat
by the Rams, man handled by the Rams, and immediately
following the game, it was either they was that next
it was a Sunday. There was Monday at the season
any news conference, koc said, we need to improve the

(32:35):
interior of our offensive line. So the general manager did that.
They went out and got the Fries and I can't
remember the other guy's named the center that's out now,
Ryan Kelly, Ryan Kelly.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
So Kelly and Fries come in. We get Hargrave and
the other guy.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Was what's his name again, and he's Jonathan Allen.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
To to fortify the interior of the offense.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
In the interior of the defensive line will make it,
you know, like you say, they kind of didn't do
a lot with the secondary. We lost a couple of guys,
went and got Zay and we decided we did want
to sign Sam Darnold after a spectacular season, a career

(33:24):
direction changing.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Career direction change that sounds okay, career direction changing season.
There was the one bad game. I get it.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
But all quarterbacks, So unless you think that's that's such
a that sets up alarm bells. If in a big
game with a season on the line, he played as
bad as he did, you think that's going to happen
over and over again. I guess that's why you're go
in another direction. I think it was more we don't
want to give him one hundred million dollars because we
want to have money to spend on free agents and.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
The quarterback whisper stuff.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
You know, he said in that interview last week on
television he doesn't like the quarterback whisper thing. But he
also did say he's proud of how they handle the
quarterback situation.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
So I'm thinking they.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Like McCarthy and thought, this kid's got He's got the
basics that we need. He's young, he's got a good arm,
he's won everywhere he's went.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
We can win with this guy.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
All we need to do to improve on fourteen and
three interior of the offensive line, interior the defensive line,
and then I'll handle the rest by coaching this kid up.
And it just hasn't turned off that way. The interior
of the offensive line, most of it because of injuries,
hasn't worked. We've just talked about the two guys in
the interior of the defensive line. They've basically been meaningless.

(34:39):
And the kid looked awful in his first two weeks.
Then against the ankle sprang, we had nobody to back
him up. We could have got Rogers, Rogers wanted to
play here. I guess we could have kept Danny Dimes
And who saw that coming. I don't know if anybody
really saw him playing like he hasn't been with a Colt.
So personnel decisions and maybe being a little too confident
in your ability to coach up quarterbacks and selecting the

(35:01):
right players, it's got this team in a terrible situation
right now. We'll take a break five three four, top
of the hour to be what we got.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
Yeah, well, PJA team bringing home the Bacon
