Speaker 2 (00:28):
For common man.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Oh boy?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Why should anybody aspire to be a common man? An
average man? Do you realize what it means to be average?
That means you're the best of the lousiest and the lousiest.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Of the best.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Now, if we demand more and more for producing less
and less while they have not nations and courage and
inspire and indeed require hard work and maximum effort. If
we deify the common man while they encourage and reward
the uncommon ones, well, the end result of such a
loopsided race, as that is too obvious to require elaboration.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I mean, hello, I'm a fraud.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
Yes, welcome back to the spotlight, young man.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Will say, he gat, he gat, you say a.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Social commentator with an archaic communication device.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (04:06):
What a weekend for the National Football League college football
as well. The golfers get destroyed, the Vikings fall further
behind in the race for first place in the NFC North.
Will the Wild ever win another game? And just like
good times and old Times, the Minnesota Timberwolves refuse to
play defense. With all of those topics out there, I'm
not sure where to begin, So let's do what we
(04:28):
like to.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Do, and that's spin the wheel of topic.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Commons golf games. I don't mind chatting about that. What
did you share it today?
Speaker 6 (04:47):
Seventy seven ben sunset strip? Where'd we play a Loggers trail?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Well?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Then what I where'd you hit it on?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I hear it right?
Speaker 5 (04:56):
If the gun? How far from the game?
Speaker 2 (04:59):
I had one?
Speaker 6 (05:01):
I had six seven yards, I had thirteen, I had one, thirteen, one,
fourteen to the green?
Speaker 2 (05:07):
SOI pitch hit a.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Little sawed off peel cut a knockdown pitching wedge.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Then what it was about twenty feet away?
Speaker 5 (05:15):
And I two pouted for par.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
I shot one over thirty seven on the front eight
eight pars one bogu Yeah, bogie number four did not
get up and down. Then you're ready for excuse computer.
I get to ten par five and grounds crew guy
he's got the big blower to blow all the dew
off the fairway right, and he's coming at me down
(05:38):
the fairway, so I wait. He spins around and then
just sits idling about sixty yards away from me on
the right, and I'm like, huhm, I really don't want
to hit with him there, because what if I if
I hit a low line drive slicing, which I don't
do very often, but if I do, I'll kill him.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
So I'm waiting. So now I'm I'm.
Speaker 6 (05:56):
Sort of kind of hesitant to hit it, and I
dead hop it straight up in the air and pick
it level into the hazard on the left. I went
up and took my drop and still made a six.
I almost chipped in for fick, but I got a
little sloppy on the back. I made a par on
eleven in twelve, boguied thirteen, bogeyed fifteen, bogeyed seventeen, and
(06:19):
then not Part eighteen so, uh, I'm about to say
something controversial.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
That's interesting.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
I'm a better golfer at sixty six than I was
at forty six.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Oh oh my gosh, I really am.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
I hit the better, I'm smarter, I'm wiser, I'm harder.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
What else does Desiere say?
Speaker 7 (06:42):
You'd be hard? You gotta be tough. You got'ta be strong,
You'll be cool. You gotta be calm, you gotta stay together.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yes, that's what I do when I'm on the golf
course now.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
And I have to be bad.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
You gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
And I did that.
Speaker 6 (06:51):
All day, day in day out. I'm very happy with
where I've been.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
So you're sixty six, Yeah, I see your next birthday.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Yeah, well sixty six seven six seven. Here's what annoys
me about that? How come thirteen fourteen didn't catch on
like six seven? I was doing six seven before six seven,
was doing six seven Because I said thirteen fourteen, that
never caught on like sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Six seven.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
Then you do your hands like.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh, the kids are obsessed with that. Why is NonStop?
Speaker 6 (07:21):
And I learned about it when Pete was back from
vacation because he was the one that told me about it.
I had no idea what it was all about, you know,
because I'm not you know, I don't follow the kids stuff. Oh,
I will say. You used to call me on your
cell phone. You used to call me on your cell phone.
You know who did that song?
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Tennaby?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I recognize the song. It's Drake.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
I was just that trick, yeah, And he just repeated
it over I was it was. It was playing in
the overhead speakers as I was wandering the hallways here
at a sixteen hundred year to cabin himself, and he
just kept repeating it over and over again. And I'm
told it was a big hit. You used to call
me on your cell phone. You used to call me
(08:00):
on your cell phone. You used to call me. I mean,
it's not quite Bridge over Troubled Waters, but it's good.
I just don't understand the world to of course, that
was probably quite some time ago.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Are you big Drake guy? No, not at all, that's right.
You're not a Drake. You're who's he? Who does he
have a beef with Kendrick Lamar? They not like us?
And you're a big Kendrick Lamar guy. I'd go him
over Drake.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
Yeah, but neither one does a lot. We basically wrap
in the last fifteen years. I don't really listen.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Yeah, I guess I don't.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
I go back to the nineties for my rap I
guess I.
Speaker 5 (08:30):
I guess I don't. Uh, I don't blame you there.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Well, I'm glad you've caught on with a six seven
because it has been NonStop. Yeah, not only the kids
in my household, but when I'm coaching sports. It's just
like I was coming. Like anytime I like count off,
you're like eight kids to go to one station for hockey,
you get to say I get six seven, they all
go six seven, six seven. And then I went to
the University of Saint Thomas hockey game Friday night. It
was their first game at their new arena against Providence.
(08:56):
Every time someone under the age of eighteen put on
the JumboTron, they all sat there and did their little
six seven dance, Yeah, all of them.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And it is it.
Speaker 7 (09:09):
It's from a song, right, is that where it's from
or is that from exactly? It's like from a meme
from a song or something.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
I don't know, And it's it's all the rage. It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
What what do kids get a kick out of nowadays.
But yeah, six seven and you do like this with
your hands and now so Deuce and I were doing
it all weekend.
Speaker 7 (09:27):
One of the Packers did it after a sack last night. Yeah, yeah,
Duce and I were doing We were doing the old
looks like it's third down and six seven yards to go.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Fuck Le's do it over the guy.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
In the booth do it one of the play by
play guys, and I think that's what he did. He
did some about sixty seven and then his hands like this.
Anybody's during the World Series, I don't remember, but yeah,
that's all They all all the rage, But yeah, I
saw I'm a trendsetter. I started it with thirteen fourteen.
I guess it's just not as funny as six seven,
but thirteen fourteen is where it's at. You brought up
(10:03):
the Packers. They won again last night. They are now
five to one and one. They're all alone atop the
NFC North Kiddies half game back at five and two.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
The Bears lose, they're four and three.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
And then you've got your soon to be Big Game
world champion Minnesota Vikings at three and four. And while
I don't think unless I missed something today ten of
you're late last night. When I got home, it was
about half past ten. Nothing official has been announced about
JJ McCarthy starting at a quarterback, or has it officially
(10:36):
been announced. No, it hasn't been announced, but we're all
anticipating that's what will happen. You can't go back to
a wins, especially is banged up as he is.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
He looked like.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
I mean, every single play he looked like he was
in I'm not going to say he was in as
much pain as Scataboo was.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Did you see that? Did you see that?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
I mean his foot was pointing the other direction. I
saw it, hamp and then when I saw when they
played the replay, I said, I want to see the replay.
And then after I saw it, I said, I don't
want to see the replay. That's awful, nasty looking. So
I'm assuming McCarthy starts and against this Lions team at
Pontiac with the Lions on a bye week, as.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
A quarterback ever been put in.
Speaker 6 (11:22):
Traction immediately following the game, because it could happen with
JJ McCarthy. But we'll talk about that and all sorts
of other topics. We'll take a short break. We'll bring peak.
We'll bring you Peak at the Purple on the other
side of the break. But right now Tenneby has a

Speaker 6 (12:28):
It's a couple thirteen fourteen pasted on common. He's tend
to be. I do not believe Chaos will address the
assembled media today. We'll find out, but I don't think
that's going to happen. That will probably be Wednesday. No,
Mark Rose and he'll return tomorrow by three four at
the top of the hour before we get to Peek
at the Purple, he says, we have some breaking Minnesota
(12:49):
Timberwols news.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Is it new lighting in the stadium or what is
that news?
Speaker 7 (12:52):
No, it's actually a little bit more darkness in the
stadium because Minnesota timer Wolf star Anthony Edwards will miss
two weeks where they write hand string strain, sources tell
ESPN as John Crasins give the athletic notes. Wolves play
eight games over the next two weeks.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
Yeah, not good news, though they won without him last night.
Though I think they probably won without him because the team,
you know, what happens, tend to be want to starl
Like for instance, when I'm out the TENE.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Fitzgerald rallies.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
And it puts together just this terrific performance because you know,
you're shorthanded.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
So I think that's what I think that's probably what
the Wolves did.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
All sounds like the team they were playing was shorthanded
as well.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
Well, yes, yes, but I just think that's probably why
they they they were able to to rally like they did. So,
but that is unfortunate news for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Well,
we'll dive more to the Timberwolves in a little bit,
but right now, it's time for Peak at the Purple
Brought to buy our friends at Affordable Electric, and remember,

but regardless of your electrical needs, go with affordable Electric,
Affordable dash Electric dot com, Affordable dash Electric dot com
and remember affordable the electric is shocking lye affordable.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
You know.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
I think part of the the the the the issue
with the quarterback thing is tend to be I think
because there were five quarterbacks taken in the in the
first ten picks in the JJ McCarthy draft, McCarthy was
picked tenth overall. The fifth quarterback taken ahead of him
it was Caleb uh Daniel what's his name, Jaden Daniels,
(14:46):
Drake May, bow Knicks.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Or Nix was after Michael Penick, Michael Pennix.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
And then bow Nicks.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
How how much how bow Knicks went when only like
maybe like two picks one, two, three or picks.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
So then there were how many quarterbacks taken in the
first twelve six quarterbacks taken?
Speaker 5 (15:04):
That I think part of the issue with Viking fans.
Speaker 6 (15:09):
And I understand this when you've seen some of those
quarterbacks have so much success. Drake May has been I mean,
he took a team New England who since the day
Brady retired, has been a terrible team, terrible city, with
terrible fans in a terrible stadium.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
They right now, I believe, have.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
The best record in the AFC, or maybe second best
record in the AFC. They're at six and two and
do it large part to the performance of Drake May.
How about Denver with bon Nicks, they've been bo Nicks
has just been absolutely astonishing, he said some Nash I'll
(15:52):
look it up. Maybe you saw the same thing. There
was some note about a National Football League record where
it was in that fourth quarter when they came back
and beat the Giants. He was the first quarterback in
NFL Australia to throw for two and run for two
or something crazy like that.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
But he was.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
He was setting records in the National Football League.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
Caleb Williams has had his highs and lows, probably more
lows than highs, would you agree, Yeah, But still we've there.
You you at least have gotten to see him play
for an entire season last year in his first year,
and then you've got to see him play every game
this year and whom oh, and then and we all
(16:37):
know how good Jaden Daniels was with his uh performance
last year, taking Washington to the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
He's still hurt, right, isn't he.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
He's missed a couple of dansing, yes, missing tonight as well,
and so I think that gets frustrating, not just for
Viking fans, but probably for McCarthy and the franchise itself,
because you know, obviously the plans were to play him
last ye year and that didn't work out because of
the injury, and then Darnold had the brilliant year, and
(17:06):
then he was the starting quarterback to start this season,
and then he played two games and got injured in
Game two and we've not seen him since. So I
think that also is part of the frustration tend to
be and I'm anxious to see him play as well.
I hope this isn't like important of things to come
(17:26):
in that he's brittle and injury prone, right. I mean,
a knee injury can happen to any play. Just because
you have a you have a meniscus tear or whatever
whatever it was, doesn't mean that necessarily your injury prone.
But you lose your first season to the knee injury.
Now you get a high ankle sprain and you lose
how many.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Weeks has he been out?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Four?
Speaker 5 (17:47):
Five?
Speaker 6 (17:48):
That's a long time he's basically played. We're almost We're
not quite to the halfway point of the season yet,
but we're close.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
I means it a season and a half.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
We've seen him play two games, while many of these
other quarterbacks have played every single I mean, who's the
kid for the Giants?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Dart?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Is that Jackson Dart? This is his first Was he
drafted last year? Is this his first year?
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Right?
Speaker 2 (18:13):
He was drafted this year?
Speaker 5 (18:14):
This year he's played more games than than.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
J. J.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
McCarthy.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
So I think that adds the frustration. And then when
the team has played as poorly as it has, wins
had moments, but that was there was a reason Carson
Wentz was available to.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Be to be signed.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
During UH during the off season, and it is the
free agent signings have not helped this club really in
any way, shape or form. I guess maybe the UH
the Fries guy has been okay, I guess right, he's
played every See the guy that's played every game, Yeah,
he's played me one the two defensive guys have not
(19:06):
made much of an impact either. And so what started
out I think as and look, I bought into it.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
I did.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
I bought into We're coming off a fourteen to three season,
we have our franchise quarterback, we have we've rebuilt the
interior of our offensive and defensive lines.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And then the way the season started.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
I know McCarthy was off of those first three quarters,
but the way he played in the fourth quarter because.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Like, okay, just took him.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
It took him three quarters to try to find his
footing in the National Football League. But it's been it's
been pretty bad since then him with the way Green
Bay in Detroit keep on winning. I think I saw
somewhere where they put percentages on chances of making the playoffs.
The Vikings are like five percent right now, five percent
and a loss this weekend, which is I guess it's
(19:58):
likely right Tennebe. Are there any Are there any uh
odds makers put any point spreads on that Viking game yet?
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Or did they wait till the.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
End of I'm sure they're already out.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
They're already out. They've got to be double digit underdogs,
aren't they.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Close to it? Lions are eight and a half point favorites.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
A half point favorites, and it's it. I mean, that's
why they play. We we we we we know why
they lace them up. But it's it's looking like dark
days ahead for the soon to be Big Game World
champion Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
He missed.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Vikings have lost what six seven games?
Speaker 5 (20:37):
How many we lost?
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (20:39):
Three four three four three four four? Yeah the three
and four, Oh.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
Yeah, I thought it was six seven. It won't be
longa ford since games. So we'll see how it goes.
Let's take a let's talk about the Wolves tend to
be in the wild to do that. On the other
side of the break, it's the common program here on
the fan.
Speaker 7 (21:09):
Okayfan welcomes Trans Siberian Orchestra for two amazing shows at
Target Center in December twenty eighth at three pm and
seven thirty pm. Tickets around sale now. Get complete show details,
including a link to buy tickets at kfan dot com
keyword calendar.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Bow Nicks was selected after JJ McCarthy, two spots after him.
You well, if you remember, I think.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
The the rumor at the time was what's the Broncos
head coach name, Sean Payton Paton that they tried to
pull a fast one on the Vikings to have them
move up to make them think they were gonna draft
JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Knowing they wanted bo Nix all along, so they.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
Fourthly Yeah, and he was pretty cocky about it, and
Vikings fans at the time were like, Bonnix is terrible.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
What you think you got? Why?
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Why are you so cocky right now? And now it's
turn the other way on us. It's not looking good
as of this moment.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
You could say, if the six quarterbacks drafted, we got the.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Six seven worst.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
Right six seven six seven six seven right now? Yeah,
it's I mean, it's Tim or Pennix. We just we
just haven't seen enough of JJ to make a complete conclusion.
But no, Pennix looks a lot better after cousins performance yesterday.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Cousins was just awful, Matt.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
With the whole slade of games, they almost every game
was a route except for the Jets getting their first
win in the year when they beat the Bengals. Most
every other game was just a They were just beatdowns,
and it was the AFC for the most part doing the.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
Beating down, it seemed like.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
But nevertheless, we'll find out more about JJ McCarthy on
Sunday Tenney because I'm assuming like everyone else, he will
start against the Motor City kiddies.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
I if if.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
O'Neill and Arsa don't play, it could be a really
long afternoon for the Viking JJ McCarthy because the Lions
are their defensive numbers are I read a piece on
them in The Athletic. If familiar with The Athletic. Athletic
is a online uh sports source that has writers from
(23:20):
all over the country in all the major metropolitan areas,
covering all the sports, doesn't matter what it is, football, NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, WNBA,
the college goes on and on and on.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
And I was reading a.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
Piece about the kiddies, and I'm not going to recite
all the statistics, but they seem to be like top
five or ten in almost every defensive metric. And they
did it last week with the legion of whom defense
they had. They had four guys in the secondary that
were not starters at the beginning of the year. At
least one, if not two of them was a practice
(23:59):
squad guy Head played in the National Football day before,
and they shut down the red hot Tampa Bay Tampa
Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield and held them to just
nine points. So to say the least, the Vikings will
have their hands full. You uh, you reported the breaking
news from earlier. Aunt Anthony Edwards out for did you say,
(24:20):
two weeks with a hammy issue and they play eight
games in the next two weeks. The the the Wolves
are two and one right now. They they beat a
short handed Indiana Pacers team. I think they were missing
six seven players. I think Indiana was.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Wolves are missing. And did you see what ant?
Speaker 6 (24:41):
Why did he's just like he sits? Why do they
wear sunglasses when they're inside? It's just to look cool.
I know you like your sunglasses, your designer son them.
Just wait till you're outside it's sunny. I should put
my sunglasses on right now.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
I've got them already dark in there.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
You ownly me able to see?
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Yeah? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Do I look cool? How cool do I look?
Speaker 6 (25:11):
Now?
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
You're right?
Speaker 6 (25:14):
But I can't even I can't read the the computer
screens that way.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
I so.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Wolves, they're two and one. So what game did they won?
Their the opener, right, and then they lost to the
They lost to the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
MM hmm.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
This is Chris Hine, who's uh beat writer for Timberwolves
for the fish Wrap Factory West Side says Lakers flattened
Timberwolves in embarrassing defensive performance as Luca Don do you
want to call him Don Sick or Doncic today? Rose
is not here to let me know which way he
wants to pronounce it. What do you want to go
with today?
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Today? Today? Don sick or Doncic?
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Let's starrt Don sick today.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
Let's go with Don sick.
Speaker 6 (26:08):
Lakers flatten Timberwls and embarrassing defensive performance as Luka Don
Sik scores forty nine points. That subheadline says the Wolves
defense could not get stops as as Lebron James Les
Los Angeles shot fifty nine point two percent from the
flour Dante do we want to call him Devincenzo or
Devincenzo today?
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Let's sue Devincenzo today?
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Don Dee deven Senzo didn't mince words when discussing the
Timberwls defensive performance and a one twenty eight one to
ten loss in the Lakers on Friday night. He said
that was embarrassing. I think everybody here knows it. We
have a higher standard than that. Really, when did that
higher standard begin? I win, yes, since when? I don't
remember that we have a higher standard than that. It's
(26:51):
game two, but we'll be ready to go on Sunday,
for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
The Lakers were without.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Lebron James as the forty year old a sideline by
a nerve injury, but james absent was no issue Friday
for Luka Donzik, who sliced and diced the Wolves all
night for forty nine points, eleven.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Rebounds, and eight assists.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Chris Finch said defense is certainly not where it needs
to be, just nothing, not dictating on the point of attack,
no aggressiveness to it at all, and the fly rom mentality.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Behind it is just not quite there.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
On Wednesday, the Wolves allowed the Trailblazer to score ninety
five points by the end of three quarters.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
The Lakers outdid that by.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Reaching one hundred and eight points through three quarters. They
had forty in the third deven Do we say Devin
Senzo or Tenzo?
Speaker 2 (27:55):
We're going Devin Senzo today.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
Devin Senzo said the team's effort wasn't there. The team's
effort wasn't there. No, this was the second game of
the season, second game.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Of the season.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Here's what he said, First and foremost is effort. You
fix the effort, and then you can tweak all the
little things. But you can't tweak all the little things
unless you're giving one hundred percent effort.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Sound familiar.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
If you were, if you grew tired of me.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
Talking about the wolves lack of defensive effort last year.
We're just getting started, apparently now, because you're going to
get really sick of it now. Steven sens It went
on to say, guys started getting open ones and it
just felt like target practice for them. It goes back
to effort. We can do multiple things on the defensive end,
being different coverages. We can get back of our energy
as high, on a competitive spirit as high. It wasn't
(28:52):
where we know it should be and where it needed
to be tonight. I don't think anybody else seems to
be as annoyed by it as I do, and I
don't even really care. To be honest, I'm not paying
scales attention to the NBA or the Minnesota Timberwolves as
I once did.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
I'm not a big fan of the NBA.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
It's It's okay, come playoff time, I like it, But
regular season I think I've told you the only thing
I like about regular season NBA basketball is Chuck Kenny,
the jet Shack and Shack where you're at Fife and
Ernie that that's the only thing I like. I've said
(29:29):
this many times. I'd rather listen to those for talk
basketball than I would actually watch basketball. How do you
not give defensive What is wrong with this team?
Speaker 2 (29:39):
What is raw and the lead? And I don't think.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
It's just the Wolves.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
I think it's it's a pandemic throughout the NBA. How
are you into the second game of the season and
one of your players says there's no effort. How many
times you have to say the one thing you can
control is your effort. Even if you look, there's a
pecking order in the NBA. There's going to be a
team that's the best team in the league, there's the
(30:05):
team that's the worst team in the league, and there's
everybody in between. And so if you're near the bottom,
you're in the bottom twenty, and you're playing a top five,
top ten team and both teams are giving it maximum effort,
you're probably gonna lose. But by giving it maximum effort.
Maybe one of you guys gets red hot. A couple
of the guys on the better team, they're having an
off night. They don't hit the shots they normally hit.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
You should be able to win a game. How do
you not give effort?
Speaker 6 (30:32):
Why isn't anybody else like me and and and annoyed
by it? How do people keep paying money and going
to those games they don't even try? Their teammates said,
so he says, right there, we didn't give any effort.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I guess it doesn't. I don't know why bother you?
Does it bother you?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I mean, do you?
Speaker 7 (30:53):
I just want to specify for the listeners. This is
a live segment on October twenty, so this is not
a recorded segment from a year ago or the year
before that, or the year before. I just want to
let everyone know that. And to your point, game two,
I get like everyone's human. Like, I'm sure there's points
in January and February when you've got a playoff spot
(31:16):
kind of locked up, or you're way out of the playoffs,
and you might throw in the towel a little bit
here and there. But Game two, and you're also getting paid.
These guys are all getting paid tens of millions of dollars.
That's the minimum requirement that's asked to.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
Be I had three or four nights a week two
hours or.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Six or seven nights? Yet six or you think.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
You think I have it easy with three hours a
day fourteen During the college football and basketball season fourteen,
these guys put in less time than than you and
I do. They literally do, yeah, because each game is
two and a half hours, right yeah, and they play
let's say six seven a week now, they generally play
with three or four a week, right sure, So let's
even say they play four. What's for is that ten hours?
(32:04):
You and I are putting fourteen in on the show?
Speaker 3 (32:07):
You do?
Speaker 6 (32:07):
You know, Vikings, we're running it out a lot more
than they are, and we're not taking any time off. No,
I mean, I know it seems like that. It's just
because it's effortless for us.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Just game two.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
You know, I don't get load management either.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
No no effort, you know, And if you want to,
if that's your team, I'm done with that club.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
I am done.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
I'm not I don't care if they ever win another game, sorry,
lose them all.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
No effort. How can you just not give any effort.
Speaker 6 (32:47):
Someone says, hold on, He says, common appreciated giving them
a hard time. But postgame commentary after a loss means nothing. Well,
it means something. We're there. Everybody wants to hear it.
(33:10):
The media is there, the reporter, what do you mean?
Speaker 3 (33:11):
What do you mean?
Speaker 5 (33:12):
It means nothing?
Speaker 6 (33:17):
And this isn't the first time they've said this. And
they say without any embarrassment or shame at all, they
just say, matter of factly, Ah, the other team just
tried herner.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
We did.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Not.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
They tried herner. What do you mean they tried harder,
at least give effort.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
I mean, I guess if you miss a shot or two,
that's fine. We can get over that.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Yeah, because there will be games when you're just it's
it's sports.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Sports. Sports is your whole life just sports.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
There are times, I mean, I remember the example I
used to use with when baby brother Peter would have
a struggles when he played basketball.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
He played at a high level for a long time.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
I reminded him of Jimmy Harden against the Walls in
a playoffs. This was back in twenty When did we
play Houston in the first round? Was that twenty twenty
twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two, first game of the series,
James Harden goes off for forty points. Game two, he
(34:17):
was two for eighteen from the floor, had four points.
Twenty eighteen, twenty eight was that long? I was a
twenty eighteen. James Harden goes.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
On we had buckets on our team.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
James Harden goes off for forty game one, Game two,
he goes two for eighteen.
Speaker 5 (34:33):
So that'll happen. Sometimes you can't miss.
Speaker 6 (34:37):
Just seems like everything goes in no matter if you're
shooting from uptown, downtown, all around the town.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
And then there are days when.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Nothing goes in nothing, And that's that's sort of the
way the NBA is with a lot of guys, even
the very best players sometimes have cold shooting nights. But
I don't think it's because Harden wasn't trying. I don't
think suppose maybe he wasn't trying.
Speaker 5 (34:59):
I don't.
Speaker 7 (35:00):
But by the way, just like Kevin Seffert tweet, Yeah,
four minutes ago, somebody asked, uh, what's with JJ question mark?
He responded, JJ McCarthy and Max Brosemer were the two
quarterbacks at practice today. I mean Carson would not be
a practice.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
Yeah, well he's he's I mean, he should not even
been playing. We saw that after the first time he
got sacked, the first time he got hit.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
That's it.
Speaker 7 (35:30):
The other thing that that also, no Josh Oliver, no
Jonathan Bernard at practice today.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
It could get really ugly on Sunday, couldn't it. And
this isn't me and my Honolulu blue blood coursing through
my veins. I would say that even if I hated
the lines, if it.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Was the Packers, I think the season he got away
from the Vikings very.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Quickly, Yeah, really quickly. I mean, and I still I
have to admit Tennabee.
Speaker 6 (35:57):
I I football is a tough guy, a sport and
it's you know, it's a badge of honor that you
play no matter how how badly hurt you are, you keep.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Trying, right.
Speaker 6 (36:07):
I mean, Jack Youngblood, the legendary Jack Youngblood played on
a broken leg I think in a big game back
many many years ago. So I understand guys. You know
it's like you eat some dirt and rub some robotustin
on and get back in there.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
But in no way, shape or form.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
Should should WINZ have been playing after you saw his
reaction every time he got hit. But yet the coach
says McCarthy wasn't healthy enough to play, but Wentz was.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
And I get it.
Speaker 6 (36:39):
I mean the coach even said about Brosmer because he
was asked, did you ever consider putting Brosemer in And
he said, well, for a kid who's never taken a
stap in the NFL and is as good as the
Chargers are and what they were throwing out the vikings,
he thought it would have been imminently unfair.
Speaker 5 (36:56):
That's right word, imminently.
Speaker 6 (36:57):
He just thought it would have been unfair to put
Brozemer in the The just wouldn't be prepared for it.
And you're probably right, But I don't know how McCarthy
is much more prepared. I mean he's only played two
games and then in the National Football legue. I just
don't understand the logic of playing Wentz other than they
they probably felt Wentz gave them their best chance to win,
and Wentz was, you know, he wanted to keep playing.
(37:17):
He had no they asked him. Apparently, the coach said,
you know, he talked to the medical staff and Wentz
during the game. I can go Pain's not that bad.
I can play through it, and he.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Did admirable trait.
Speaker 6 (37:29):
Tip my cap to him, but it certainly wasn't helping
the team at all, And I don't think it would
have made a difference who was in there at that point.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
They're just they're having so much trouble right now.
Speaker 6 (37:38):
It's I guess I bought into the the You know,
there's probably a lesson to be learned tend to be about.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
When you sign free agents.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
Even if they have a reputation as being very good players,
but weren't when they're on that other side of thirty
and they've had injury issues.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Because that's what we did.
Speaker 6 (37:59):
That was the the biggest things we did was we
added two guys on the defensive line and two guys
on the offensive line. And I thought, that's those are
good moves. We knew how bad the interior of the
offensive line was. We didn't get a pass rush from
the interior of the defensive line, so we thought, we'll
get two guys from the interior that have that we
know can sack the quarterback. They have a history of
(38:21):
getting to the quarterback playing on the interior of the
defensive line, And I guess the two offensive linemen were
both considered good quality offensive lineman. We just haven't gotten
our money's worth in any way, shape or form. And
then I don't know if it was Guestling or somebody
with the athletic they were looking ahead to the cap
and how much money we have invested. Is just this
(38:44):
This could be the tip of the iceberg for this club.
And I know I'm probably overreacting. I'm doing that was
it is it Chicken Little who said the sky is
falling and the sky is falling, But it does seem
like the sky is falling right now on this franchise.
How quickly it can change, because the first year under
O'Connell we were really good. We were thirteen and four,
We had those incredible comebacks. We were winning games by
(39:06):
the skin of our teeth, and we lost in the
playoffs because of Ed Dona tell It was his fault.
We all know that nobody else was responsible for that
playoff loss to the Giants except for Ed Donna Tell
oh and of course cousins for checking down and hoping
that the tight end could break a tackle, which he didn't.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
Then we had the terrible year.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
We were seven and nine O seven and ten, eight
and nine. Whatever we were year two of O'Connell. Then
we bounced back. Last year, Hell, we were one win
away in the final game of the regular season from
having home field advantage aroount the playoffs. Darnold got a
bad case of the jitters. We lost the game, got
(39:49):
crushed by the Rams. And I was reminded in a
story this weekend it wasn't the day after the last
game of the season, when we lost to the Rams
in the playoffs that O'Connell said we had to address
the interior the offensive line. He did it in the
in the in the Q and A right after the game.
That's how anxious he was to tell everybody, here's our problem, folks.
We can't protect the quarterback and they couldn't against the Rams.
(40:13):
And don't the Rams have a guy that we also
we selected Turner? And then two picks later Verse. Is
Jared Verse still really really good?
Speaker 7 (40:21):
Or was that a I haven't followed him as much
this year, but last year he was great and we
could have had bow Nicks. Now McCarthy still might be.
And you know, I'm not giving up on McCarthy yet.
I'm just hoping to see him more than two games
in a row. We do need to see him.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
I don't know, you know, and I know everybody's been
anxious to see what we have in JJ McCarthy. But
with the offensive line as bad as it is, I
don't know if that's it, that's what I think. I
don't even if we're gonna give if it's gonna be
fair to him or the franchise, or to the fans
or anything. Because you know, and again you know that
(41:01):
they're they're they're talking as I derisaw and O'Neill with
a couple of extra days, right because we had we
basically had a mini buy. Last game was Thursday. That
gave us Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then the six days
before the next games has nine to ten days. That's
six seven days, six seventh to to get better.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
And whether daris Are O'Neal.
Speaker 6 (41:22):
Can use that time to get healthier, maybe not completely healthy,
but at least healthier remains to be seen. Top of
the hour ten, Tobe will hit me with some rapid
fire questions. We call it five three four What
Speaker 2 (41:33):
You got to Yeah, there was a butt kick
