first ten picks in the JJ McCarthy draft, McCarthy was

I think it's it's a pandemic throughout the NBA. How
are you into the second game of the season and
one of your players says there's no effort. How many
times you have to say the one thing you can
control is your effort. Even if you look, there's a
pecking order in the NBA. There's going to be a
team that's the best team in the league, there's the

team that's the worst team in the league, and there's
everybody in between. And so if you're near the bottom,
you're in the bottom twenty, and you're playing a top five,
top ten team and both teams are giving it maximum effort,
you're probably gonna lose. But by giving it maximum effort.
Maybe one of you guys gets red hot. A couple
of the guys on the better team, they're having an
off night. They don't hit the shots they normally hit.

by it? How do people keep paying money and going

Should should WINZ have been playing after you saw his
reaction every time he got hit. But yet the coach
says McCarthy wasn't healthy enough to play, but Wentz was.

I mean the coach even said about Brosmer because he
was asked, did you ever consider putting Brosemer in And
he said, well, for a kid who's never taken a
stap in the NFL and is as good as the
Chargers are and what they were throwing out the vikings,
he thought it would have been imminently unfair.

He just thought it would have been unfair to put
Brozemer in the The just wouldn't be prepared for it.
And you're probably right, But I don't know how McCarthy
is much more prepared. I mean he's only played two
games and then in the National Football legue. I just
don't understand the logic of playing Wentz other than they
they probably felt Wentz gave them their best chance to win,
and Wentz was, you know, he wanted to keep playing.

He had no they asked him. Apparently, the coach said,
you know, he talked to the medical staff and Wentz
during the game. I can go Pain's not that bad.
I can play through it, and he.

Tip my cap to him, but it certainly wasn't helping
the team at all, And I don't think it would
have made a difference who was in there at that point.

there's probably a lesson to be learned tend to be about.

When you sign free agents.

Even if they have a reputation as being very good players,
but weren't when they're on that other side of thirty
and they've had injury issues.

That was the the biggest things we did was we
added two guys on the defensive line and two guys
on the offensive line. And I thought, that's those are
good moves. We knew how bad the interior of the
offensive line was. We didn't get a pass rush from
the interior of the defensive line, so we thought, we'll
get two guys from the interior that have that we
know can sack the quarterback. They have a history of

getting to the quarterback playing on the interior of the
defensive line, And I guess the two offensive linemen were
both considered good quality offensive lineman. We just haven't gotten
our money's worth in any way, shape or form. And
then I don't know if it was Guestling or somebody
with the athletic they were looking ahead to the cap
and how much money we have invested. Is just this

This could be the tip of the iceberg for this club.
And I know I'm probably overreacting. I'm doing that was
it is it Chicken Little who said the sky is
falling and the sky is falling, But it does seem
like the sky is falling right now on this franchise.
How quickly it can change, because the first year under
O'Connell we were really good. We were thirteen and four,
We had those incredible comebacks. We were winning games by

the skin of our teeth, and we lost in the
playoffs because of Ed Dona tell It was his fault.
We all know that nobody else was responsible for that
playoff loss to the Giants except for Ed Donna Tell
oh and of course cousins for checking down and hoping
that the tight end could break a tackle, which he didn't.

Then we had the terrible year.

We were seven and nine O seven and ten, eight
and nine. Whatever we were year two of O'Connell. Then
we bounced back. Last year, Hell, we were one win
away in the final game of the regular season from
having home field advantage aroount the playoffs. Darnold got a
bad case of the jitters. We lost the game, got

crushed by the Rams. And I was reminded in a
story this weekend it wasn't the day after the last
game of the season, when we lost to the Rams
in the playoffs that O'Connell said we had to address
the interior the offensive line. He did it in the
in the in the Q and A right after the game.
That's how anxious he was to tell everybody, here's our problem, folks.
We can't protect the quarterback and they couldn't against the Rams.

And don't the Rams have a guy that we also
we selected Turner? And then two picks later Verse. Is
Jared Verse still really really good?

Or was that a I haven't followed him as much
this year, but last year he was great and we

The other thing that that also, no Josh Oliver, no

play no matter how how badly hurt you are, you keep.

I mean, Jack Youngblood, the legendary Jack Youngblood played on
a broken leg I think in a big game back
many many years ago. So I understand guys. You know
it's like you eat some dirt and rub some robotustin
on and get back in there.

But in no way, shape or form.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
Should should WINZ have been playing after you saw his
reaction every time he got hit. But yet the coach
says McCarthy wasn't healthy enough to play, but Wentz was.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
And I get it.
Speaker 6 (36:39):
I mean the coach even said about Brosmer because he
was asked, did you ever consider putting Brosemer in And
he said, well, for a kid who's never taken a
stap in the NFL and is as good as the
Chargers are and what they were throwing out the vikings,
he thought it would have been imminently unfair.
Speaker 5 (36:56):
That's right word, imminently.
Speaker 6 (36:57):
He just thought it would have been unfair to put
Brozemer in the The just wouldn't be prepared for it.
And you're probably right, But I don't know how McCarthy
is much more prepared. I mean he's only played two
games and then in the National Football legue. I just
don't understand the logic of playing Wentz other than they
they probably felt Wentz gave them their best chance to win,
and Wentz was, you know, he wanted to keep playing.
(37:17):
He had no they asked him. Apparently, the coach said,
you know, he talked to the medical staff and Wentz
during the game. I can go Pain's not that bad.
I can play through it, and he.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Did admirable trait.
Speaker 6 (37:29):
Tip my cap to him, but it certainly wasn't helping
the team at all, And I don't think it would
have made a difference who was in there at that point.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
They're just they're having so much trouble right now.
Speaker 6 (37:38):
It's I guess I bought into the the You know,
there's probably a lesson to be learned tend to be about.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
When you sign free agents.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
Even if they have a reputation as being very good players,
but weren't when they're on that other side of thirty
and they've had injury issues.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Because that's what we did.
Speaker 6 (37:59):
That was the the biggest things we did was we
added two guys on the defensive line and two guys
on the offensive line. And I thought, that's those are
good moves. We knew how bad the interior of the
offensive line was. We didn't get a pass rush from
the interior of the defensive line, so we thought, we'll
get two guys from the interior that have that we
know can sack the quarterback. They have a history of
(38:21):
getting to the quarterback playing on the interior of the
defensive line, And I guess the two offensive linemen were
both considered good quality offensive lineman. We just haven't gotten
our money's worth in any way, shape or form. And
then I don't know if it was Guestling or somebody
with the athletic they were looking ahead to the cap
and how much money we have invested. Is just this
(38:44):
This could be the tip of the iceberg for this club.
And I know I'm probably overreacting. I'm doing that was
it is it Chicken Little who said the sky is
falling and the sky is falling, But it does seem
like the sky is falling right now on this franchise.
How quickly it can change, because the first year under
O'Connell we were really good. We were thirteen and four,
We had those incredible comebacks. We were winning games by
(39:06):
the skin of our teeth, and we lost in the
playoffs because of Ed Dona tell It was his fault.
We all know that nobody else was responsible for that
playoff loss to the Giants except for Ed Donna Tell
oh and of course cousins for checking down and hoping
that the tight end could break a tackle, which he didn't.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
Then we had the terrible year.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
We were seven and nine O seven and ten, eight
and nine. Whatever we were year two of O'Connell. Then
we bounced back. Last year, Hell, we were one win
away in the final game of the regular season from
having home field advantage aroount the playoffs. Darnold got a
bad case of the jitters. We lost the game, got
(39:49):
crushed by the Rams. And I was reminded in a
story this weekend it wasn't the day after the last
game of the season, when we lost to the Rams
in the playoffs that O'Connell said we had to address
the interior the offensive line. He did it in the
in the in the Q and A right after the game.
That's how anxious he was to tell everybody, here's our problem, folks.
We can't protect the quarterback and they couldn't against the Rams.
(40:13):
And don't the Rams have a guy that we also
we selected Turner? And then two picks later Verse. Is
Jared Verse still really really good?
Speaker 7 (40:21):
Or was that a I haven't followed him as much
this year, but last year he was great and we
could have had bow Nicks. Now McCarthy still might be.
And you know, I'm not giving up on McCarthy yet.
I'm just hoping to see him more than two games
in a row. We do need to see him.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
I don't know, you know, and I know everybody's been
anxious to see what we have in JJ McCarthy. But
with the offensive line as bad as it is, I
don't know if that's it, that's what I think. I
don't even if we're gonna give if it's gonna be
fair to him or the franchise, or to the fans
or anything. Because you know, and again you know that
(41:01):
they're they're they're talking as I derisaw and O'Neill with
a couple of extra days, right because we had we
basically had a mini buy. Last game was Thursday. That
gave us Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then the six days
before the next games has nine to ten days. That's
six seven days, six seventh to to get better.

And whether daris Are O'Neal.

Can use that time to get healthier, maybe not completely healthy,
but at least healthier remains to be seen. Top of
