Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bad common man, common man.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
No sho people saw it then, so.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Secarit. Approach will fail.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Tom, It's time for common.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Man, common man, common man, charge the houses like going can?
Speaker 5 (00:22):
What should where we play's?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm deactivy to man, It's time for common man.
Speaker 6 (00:33):
Why should anybody aspire to be a common man? An
average man? Do you realize what it means to be average?
That means you're the best of the lousiest and the lousiest.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Of the best.
Speaker 6 (00:44):
Now, if we demand more and more for producing less
and less while they have not, nations encourage and inspire,
and indeed require hard work and maximum effort. If we
deify the common man while they encourage and reward the
uncommon ones, the end result of such a lopsided race
as that is too obvious to require elaboration.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Nobody, I've got to go.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Nobody, No, I got to go. Somebody no got go?
Nobody know.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
What a flight? What a fight?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Ladies and gentlemen gone, I'm all my ticket?
Speaker 6 (03:05):
Idiot, moron, what a morrid?
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Your build up as good as actually the build up
in the entire open is really much better than the show.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
It's going to take a nose dive right amount now,
no crank it, crank it, Sammy, crank it. Thank you.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Bread is good afternoon, and act akadak and dak dak,
act you in yours. I'm the common man, Dan Cole.
I'm a radio dinosaur and this is my Librea tarpet.
Someday archaeologists and paleontologists will be sifting through the rubble
that will be sixteen Avenue South. They'll stumble across my
skeleton remains and my cold dead, not rig but fossilized
(04:01):
lips attached to this microphone. And it's not a Noyman
BCM one O four anymore. It's some kind of an
electro LUXE eighty I don't remember the number now.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
But it's just an electro lux.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
It's it's okay, it works, I mean it's it's not
a bad microphone, but it's not a great microphone. Here
until three, I would suppose the regular listeners of the
program probably realized right away that Tennaby is not here today.
We had no montage for after the Vikings victory, though,
I sam byrd in today for the Tennebee, who I
(04:35):
think is at home with it with a sick child.
And you asked if you know if I needed any
audio or anything, and I just said, let's wing it.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Of course.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Then you texted back, why did I know? That was
the response, and I told you, we just do free
form radio. The danger, as I told you in the
text of doing free form radio, is it can turn
into a free fall.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
It's like walking a tightrope. It's like I'm the car
will lend of radio.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
You're on that tight rope and you walk in and
it's all good, and then all of a sudden gusta
wind blows and boom, pappack it down, pappack it down,
and you just plummet to your death. So we could
die a very slowed death today a very quick and
painless one. We'll just see how it works. But we
are here until three o'clock, head coach of the soon
to be Big Game World champion Minnesota Vikings. We weren't sure,
(05:21):
you know, with a late night game and a flight
back from Dallas one he would do his day after
the game news conference.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
But he's doing it regularly, scheduled twelve third. He's excited.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
I'm sure he's excited about what happened last night in
the big d Vikings win. There I think it's their
second win in a row. They improved five and eight.
Of course, leading into yesterday's game, they knew before they
even had the opening pooch.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
It's not a boom anymore.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
By the way, because they just pooched the ball and
try to keep it in play. But the Vikings had
been eliminated from postseason play, and you know, they would
have needed several things to go their way, like they'd
have to win every game, and every other team in
the league would have to lose every game, which is
a possible because there's there's sixteen games a week, and
(06:03):
that means there's sixteen winners, and so the other fifteen teams,
the other thirty one teams, weren't all going to lose.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
So the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Have been eliminated. But we'll talk about that. There is
plenty to get to today. There will be no Wheeler
topic because I know exactly what order of Actually, if
you're if you're looking for excitement level and maybe order
of importance, you'll probably start with the Minnesota While they
had the blockbuster trade, while we were away and I
was on call, I had told Chad Abbott that, no,
(06:34):
I'm being serious. I said I told him if over
the weekend the Wild trade for Connor McDavid, who's over raided,
or Leon Dry title, that I would be on call
and I would come in and take phone calls and
do sort of like a wild fan line. That's the
kind of guy I am, even on my daff. But
(06:56):
they didn't trade for Connor McDavid or Leon dry Idol.
They traded for I can't emerge.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
I can't.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
I'm not much of a wild guy. But the funny
thing is Brett Blakemore was just hyping it up earlier,
and it was in one year. No.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
His name is Quinny something, Quinn, Quinn, Rogers, Rogers Quinn.
He's apparently the the He might be the best defensive
hockey player of all time.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
The legends already grown.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
He went from me one of the top three defensive
players of all time noris Trophy winner. Now now that
he's with us and we won yesterday and he scored
a goal, now we're beginning to trumpet him as the
greatest defensive defenseman in the history of.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
The National Hockey League.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
What's his name? When Quinn hughes, Oh yeah, when you.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Play Quinn Hughes. The team refuses to lose.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
We refuse to lose is what they do. So we'll
get to that before the program is over. Also, Minnesota
Timberwolves went into the basketball game, and of course there
is the uh the Viking's no Mark Rosen today, He'll
he'll join us tomorrow to a c We start tomorrow
at one o'clock. It will be time for the on
(08:06):
Nico Medved Show at a twelve o'clock ahead. Coach of
the men's h Minnesota gold govern men's basketball team. I'm
trying to get I should have done this before I
walked in, but I was getting excited I got to do.
I've figured out I have email on my phone now,
so I can do hip cricket and I can get
my my text messages up. Because I'm sure a lot
(08:30):
of people are going to weigh in on that on
what's happened over the weekend.
Speaker 7 (08:33):
It's funny you say that I got a new phone
last week and I got locked out of everything. It
took like three different IT people to help me get
back into my account. Really yeah, so I didn't have
access to the talk bags, to my email.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Just it was a mess last week. No, So I
hear you f.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
A QP and we go, let's just see if this
were oh, per case, let's see if it works.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Bingo, We're we're back in business.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
So nice to have our Brad shown. Bryant Kfan text line.
First question for you a sam Way and you know again,
I know how many times have you filled in for
TENN Tobee on the program?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
This is my second time, second time only, yes.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
So I always like to We have unique listeners of
the common Man Program. You know, most of you don't
listen to the other shows. We have very unique listeners,
and so if you've appeared on other shows before, they
might not know who you are because they don't listen
to the other shows. They strictly common Man listeners. So
we'd like to familiarize you with them. You went to
(09:34):
Roosevelt and Washburn. I beg your pardon what I went
to Washburn High School? You went to Roosevelt.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
I thought.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
That's sacrilegious for me to say that. You seem like
you're almost You jumped quick on that. It was like,
let me guess you're a Washburn guy. Is rose is
it called hated Roseville? Then do you hate Roosevelt?
Speaker 7 (09:56):
No, there's no hate there. Yeah, I mean I grew up,
I grew up near Roosevelt, but yeah, I was. I
was a Washburn guy.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Okay, another question for you. Yes, I still have that
plastic chat stuck in your throat.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I do not well it came out. Yeah. No, We're
We're good. I'm I'm feeling good.
Speaker 7 (10:16):
So the last time I've worked with you Common, I
don't remember the date, but I do remember the day.
And it was the day after the Wild lost in
the playoffs. And I'm sure Abbant thought to himself, you know,
Tennebe's not here. You know who's a great replacement. This
guy who knows almost nothing about hockey.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
He just walks into the studio.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
He had no idea what the name of the hockey
players were traded before I test him. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Disappointing, isn't it. Yeah, it's one.
Speaker 8 (10:46):
Of the biggest trade in the history of the franchise.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, I was testing too.
Speaker 8 (10:49):
Yeah, and the press conference is at two o'clock at
twelve thirty, Why you said twelve thirty, that's what it
was going to be. But we got back really late.
Not everybody's built like me, so they need.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
To sleep dress.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
And I was praising the coach, saying he was so
excited to talk about the victory he was going to
stick to his regularly scheduled time at twelve thirty.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
But you're saying, it's two o'clock.
Speaker 8 (11:07):
We got we got back a little later than we wanted,
so two o'clock, so you're gonna have to find a
different time to eat your lunch. And then when you
guys go to break, I'll explain to you Quinn Hughes
and why this is the biggest trade in franch I.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Know all about it. They know all about it.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
He's a rental We got him forty and then he's
gonna go play with his brothers in New Jersey.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
They'll like it here, Yeah, of course you will. Who
doesn't like it here?
Speaker 8 (11:30):
Just you didn't take it from the people that have
played the game.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Yeah I have. I've played hockey boot hockey. I played it,
So I will get to all that.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Well, now we don't have to take the early break
at the bottom of the hour, Sam, so we'll just
we'll just move along. So let's do this. Let's not
let's take our break. Can you play some music right now?
Any kind of bumper music? Yeah, cause you got to
bumperm you got to bump me out at twelve twenty
seven and just before the top of the hour. I'll
just keep talking. I won't stop.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
That's your job.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
The one and only job for you today is to
chime in when and to make sure we stay on time.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Got it?
Speaker 4 (12:03):
And the only way we stay on time is when
you play bumper music. So hit a little piece right now,
we break it the twelve or thirteen.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
I think we got it here. No, maybe we don't.
Let's see. Oh there we go. Okay, there we go.
Now that's nice.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
We got plenty to get to today.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
The other side of the break, we'll talk a little
bit about the soon to be big game.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Well maybe we do have our quarterback. I don't know,
it's still a little early.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
We'll explore that topic and many others, including Quinn, the
Mighty Mighty, the Mighty Quinn Huge.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
We'll talk about him and in other topics as well.
Here in the common Man program on the Fan thirteen
(13:19):
fourteen past. I'm common no tennabe today.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
He will be back tomorrow. We believe we start at
one o'clock tomorrow. Sam Boyd is in four.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Tennabe.
Speaker 4 (13:30):

Speaker 3 (14:06):
I'm sort of getting used to it now. It's almost
like what do they call.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
That when you you grow an immunity to it where
it doesn't phaze me quite as much as it once did,
that electrical shock. Uh, you know it's you know you.
Vikings win. They defeat Dallas. I think eight points the
final score or something like that, a game in which
(14:32):
it was entertaining. It wasn't the sharpest played game in
the world by either side, more offense than defense, but
that's okay too.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
I think we went into the game.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
I think everybody went into the game knowing that the
Vikings weren't going to qualify for the playoffs this year,
trying to see if if if are if nine, the
alter ego to JJ McCarthy could return to that nine,
because sometimes he plays like JJ McCarthy, which is not good.
We've seen that the JJ McCarthy is.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Not nine is good.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
And we saw more nine yesterday than we did J. J. McCarthy.
The first offensive play of the game was an interception.
Then the Cowboys fake field goal, one of the coolest
looking plays I've ever seen on the fake field goal
where the holder just flipped it blindedly over his shoulder.
Place kicker got it, ran for the first thing.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
His name is Aubrey.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
And then they went to score a tuddy and you
were thinking made this could be a long day for
the Purple, but they got they got the ship righted,
and they went on to win. And and McCarthy, you, no, sorry.
Nine played pretty well yesterday. I must admit I was,
and I would call it being pleasantly surprised. I think
I brought this up last week. I've had this gut
(15:42):
feeling all along that well, he might not be ponder like.
I didn't think he was going to get to be
Peyton Manning like, and he's probably not going to be
either one.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
But that was pretty good. Yesterday. That wasn't bad.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Now you have to take into consideration the opponent, Dallas.
If Tenneby would have been here today, I would have
apologized to him. He he stated that Dallas's defense was awful,
and I said, now wait a minute, I said, let's
call a time out here. Previous to the kiddies game,
which was last week, where I think the Lions, I
(16:15):
think they put up on even more points than the
Vikings did, but it was a bundle they'd like. I
think they I think they hung forty four on Dallas
last week. But the previous two games, the Dallas defense
had shown some major improvement. They had taken some strides,
so I thought, well, maybe that can carry on with
the Vikings. It did not, as the Vikings pretty much
(16:37):
could do whatever they wanted.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
On the ground and in the air. While while you
do have to take in my opinion, the.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Level of the competition, Dallas just is sn't very good defensively.
Last weekend before Washington had lost eight games in a row.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Their defense isn't very good either. But as you've heard
me say.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Six seven times, at least the Vikings don't put the
roster together for the other team. They don't put the
schedule together, They don't do the pregame pump up stuff
for the other team. So it's there not to be
blamed for playing two teams that just aren't very good defensively.
And the Vikings did so with a beat up offensive line. Again,
Derisad didn't play. O'Neill was out with an injury, so
(17:25):
they didn't even have their their their their full five lineup,
you know, the five that they wanted to start the
season with. As a matter of I think last week
was the first and only time the team is at
all five of the the starters they envisioned when the
season began to play on the offensive line, from center
(17:47):
to the two guards to the two tackles, and this
week it went back to uh O'Neill. O'Neill had had
a foot problem. Derisaw didn't even play. I mean, as
far as I know, I don't think he even suit
it up. So it's it's nice, it's it's it's it's
encouraging because after those.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
That those handful of games, or he looked just got awful.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
He looked like he looked like he we might want
a fish and cut bait now, But you do have
to stay patient, and we all agree to that, and
now we'll see what happens. They have another game now,
they're playing a terrible Giants teen. This one's on the road.
I'm not sure exactly how that will go. But the
Giants aren't very good either. And then with Detroit, they're
one of my regular listeners. An emailer sent an email
(18:33):
to me last night and said, looks like golf was
off because Detroit lost had nothing to do with with golf.
Golf played really well again yesterday. He completed more than
sixty percent of his passes. He threw for three touchdowns
three hundred plus yards. It was the Lions defense again
that had no answer.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
For the Los A. It was a Here's what I'm
beginning to think.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
The Lions. If you're looking for the Lions are on
your front porch. I think the other teams are doing
now is they're just ransacking the house and going out
the back.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Door because it's it's.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
The Lions defensively, for the second week in a row,
came out a halftime and had no answer for they
were They were out played and out coached, and they
got they got crushed and so having Detroit, so you
got the Giants on the road.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Then you have.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Detroit at home, which should not be now Detroit could
still be there. They're they're hanging by a thread to
a possible playoff spot. They need to run the table.
They'll need to be Pittsburgh this week at the litter Box,
which I would say that's a pick them game. Pittsburgh's
playing pretty well. They're they're they're in a playoff position
right now for in the AFC. But my guess is
(19:42):
the Lions won't put up much resistance defensively, which leads
the Bikings to the last game of the season, which
is at home against green Bay. Green Bay more than
likely will have playoff positioning to be playing for. They'll
be looking for either a number one seed that doesn't
look likely now after yesterday's lost to Denver, but still
in the cards, and certainly a number two seed.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Three seed.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
You know, you want to get a home game if
you can, so they might. But now, let's say green
Bay by the time we get to the final week
of the season, if winning or losing doesn't change their
seeding at all, I don't think we're going to see
a lot of Jay Love or any of their other
starting players, So this could be a real nice situation
for the Vikings offensively to give McCarthy some more time.
(20:29):
Though you could make the argument you'd rather him play
against teams that have something to play for, so that
he's playing in a game in which the opposition is
giving it everything they have.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
So like Dallas last night, for sure.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Yeah, Well, but Dallas defensively is terriblest. It doesn't matter
if you're terrible, doesn't matter how desperate you are. I
don't believe in the desperation level anyways. People will go
with the desperation level all the time. They'll say, well,
when they're handicapping games that go, well, this team's desperate,
so that's why we're going to get a better fut
of them. There's a reason that team was desperate, because
they're not very good if they If you're desperate, it
(21:05):
means that you've you've done a number of things wrong
throughout the season to lose games you probably shouldn't have lost.
So Dallas's defense, there's nothing there. They're they're they're they're
one of the worst defenses in the league. Statistically, they're
ranked thirtieth and thirty first and thirty second in every
meaningful defensive category. But again that's not the Vikings fault
(21:26):
or Nine's fault. So that worked well, and so it
was a nice It was a nice game. Let's take
a break.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Play music.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
We are.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Pick of the Purple was brought to you by our friends.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
At Affordable Electric, Affordable Dash Electrics dot Com from your
electrical needs.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
More controversial Vikings news. We'll talk a little while other
side of the break. Common Man program on the Fan.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
The common Man who cares about common Common is boring.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
It's common weekdays at noon on the Fan and.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
A couple thirteen fourteen past Common Man program in common.
He is Sam in for at Tendabee Today manager Blockbuster
trade for the Minnesota Wild.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Over the weekend they trade for.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Quen Hughes, who I'll be honest with, thean idols won't
come as a surprise to anybody. I never hoided the
guy before until this weekend, and now I feel like
he's my best friend. I know everything about him, where
he's been, where he's going, where he's at. He was
in Vancouver. He was a twenty seventeen draft picked. I
believe made his debut in twenty nineteen, or maybe he
was a twenty nineteen draft pick and made his debut
in twenty twenty one, won the uh Is the Norris
(23:23):
Trophy for best Defenseman in Hockey yesterday. He's due a
really big contract in about a year and a half.
We have him through twenty seven. We traded the equivalent
of four number one picks, an unprotected twenty twenty six
first round pick, and then boy, I had all the
(23:43):
names down Ogrin and Rossie all traded for and you know,
all those players from what people tell me. Again, I'm
going I'm not paying his close attention to the National
Hockey to the National Hockey League or the Minnesota Wild
as I once did. But I'm told all of those
players were quality players. It wasn't like, wow, this guy
(24:04):
was a real disappointment. You know, he did he was
highly regarded. He didn't live up to expectations. So it's
like it's like a win win for us where else
we're getting one of the best defensive players in hockey
and we need help.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
On the blue line.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
And they were also getting rid of some dead weight
because they certainly weren't dead weight. What I find interesting is,
and this benefit it benefits the Wild.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Well, it did benefit the wild.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
You wonder if it is because what I read in
the fish raft factory West Side, or maybe this was
an athletic piece, but it said Canuck's president of hockey operations,
Jimmy Rutherford, already at a feeling Hughes wouldn't resign once he.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Reached free agency in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Vancouver is a terrible team in a terrible city with
terrible fans, in a terrible stand.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
They're in dead last place, and.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Although Vancouver didn't have to, he wanted to send Hughes
to a team that would work for him, which I
think you see that more often now in sports, sports, sports,
at your whole life, just sports, where there will be
general managers who will try to play kate the player
they are trading instead of just saying I can't.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Worry about where you want.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
You know, where you've been, where you are, where you
want to go.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
I have to do what's best for the team.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
But Hughes was quoted as saying it was a tough situation,
but I felt it was time, meaning they had discussions
with the front office and saying, look, this isn't working
out for us anymore. He says they were kind of
talking a lot about places I might feel comfortable, and
(25:41):
Jim was amazing with that.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
He cared about the person. He wanted me to go where.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
He thought I'd be happy, and they thought one of
those places was Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Garren got the call.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
The story talks about I think he was making mostacholi,
or maybe he was making.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
What's a Mexican vegetas.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
I think he was making fijidas or something like that.
When he got the phone call to say that Vancouver
was ready to cut the deal, Garan and he he
here's what. Here's where you do have to if you
believe this had anything to do with it, and there
are those that believe he did, including Hughes, he says.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Hughes was also appreciated it.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Says Garant interacted with Hughes earlier this year when Hughes
had to drop out of the United States team in
the Four Nations face off due to injury, and Hughes
said it gave him quote a glimpse of what a
good person Bill Garan is. He was also was also
appreciative of Garan pulling off the blockbuster trade for Rossi
buyem Ogrin in a first round draft pick. Hughes says
(26:50):
he wants to prove he was right in doing so,
because that's that's that's one of those.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
The only comparison I can draw.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
It's herschel Walker like, though I don't think it's going
to work out to be herschel Walker like. In other words,
I don't think the Wild is going to be the
equivalent of the Vikings in trading all sorts of draft
picks and players. And really, let's face it, Walker never
lived up to the expectations and didn't do for the
Vikings what they expected them to do back in eighty
(27:20):
nine when they cut that deal.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
I was all for it. I was a rube. I
thought the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
I thought they were a running back away as Michael
Linn and the Vikings that they thought they were running
a quality running back away from from being a Super
Bowl contender, and it didn't work out that way. But
it's still it's it's it's a it's a big trade
when you're it's a four for one is what it is.
What it amounts to, though the one is accomplished more
(27:48):
than the other four, so that's that's obviously the trade off.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
He said.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
There are other teams that probably could have thrown in
certain packages like that too, but at the end of
the day, they didn't want to do that, or they
didn't want to trade two or three assets from their team.
Billy did so I remember that, and that means a
lot to me that Billy did that, which.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Then takes it to the next logical step. Will that.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Will those good feelings between the two the good will
continue when we get to free agency period for.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
For Heughes in twenty twenty seven. We've got him all
of this year, in all of next year.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Now he's got two brothers, is what I'm told, that
are both really good players, and I think they both
play for New Jersey. So there has been speculation, and
I don't think anybody in that family, the trio of brothers,
has thrown any cold water on this. The three of
them would like to play together someday. So does that
mean he ends up going to New Jersey or do
(28:59):
we have to make another and get his two brothers
to come here. I don't know what what what the
point is. I don't know how important that is to him.
Uh and then apparently his whole you know, I think
he's from Michigan.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Did I read that right that Detroit.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Is his his his is like his hometown team. So
he'd like there's the speculation that he might want to
play to UH in Michigan. But Hughes went on to say,
and he also said the fans reaction to.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Him was big because they gave him arousing applause.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
So with the way this with, with the way it started,
UH with a win he scored in his.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
First game with the Wild. I think his goal was
the fourth one of the game. You can't you know. Look,
I'm taking.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
The word of the people that I trust when it
comes to hockey now would be the people that write
hockey in this town, the Tennebee's, the Russo and the
Sarah McClellan and all the others that that write hockey
and follow the league. They they tell me that this
immediately makes the Wild.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
They were already off to him.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
The season started out poorly, then they went on that
nice November run. Their record in November was.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
It was spectacular.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
I think they only had one or two losses regulation
losses in the entire a month in November, and that
put them firmly in the chase for a playoff spot.
And now adding him you've got one of the best
forwards in the business. There are those that might suggest
Caprisov is the best forward in the league. I think
(30:35):
most people would say, well, let's not get carried away,
but he's certainly a top five player in this league.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
You mix that with.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Maybe the best defenseman in all of hockey, and certainly
what I've been able to gather as he's for sure
top three, maybe top two, or maybe the best one.
Then you add him with Faber, who is already you know,
and there were quotes from Faber who said this is
good for him, this is good for the team.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
The two of them can work well off each other.
That's the figures.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
It'll take five six games and they are already showing
some of it yesterday. I think Faber had to assists yesterday. So,
you know, we talked last week. Tend to be brought
it up again. We have this discussion every so often
on the grum where we say, okay, uh, which of
(31:24):
the major men's for as the best chance to bring
a championship to the.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
To the Twin Cities.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
So you know, the lead the last couple years been
West to Minnesota Timberwolves. They got to the Western Conference
finals the last two years in a row. Now they
got blown out in the Western Conference finals. Both years
got killed by Dallas, killed by OKAC four games to one.
So even though they're in the finals, you could make
the argument they're.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Not as close to getting in the finals as we think.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
It's not like they took Dallas or ok C to
the limit, you know, pushed it to six or seven games,
six seven games. It was basically they got They just
they were completely outplayed and overmatched in.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Those in those two matchups. But again bringing back pretty
much the same host we lost. Nah, right, was that?
Speaker 4 (32:14):
Noah, we lost, We lost one player on the club,
but other than that, we were bringing everybody back.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
So okay, all is right with the world. The Wild.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
We going into this season after the Pereasy Suitor contract.
You know, after that, money was was no longer hanging
over the Wild's heads. We had all sorts of money
to spend in free agency. The only issue was the
best free agents we signed with their team. So they stayed.
So they stayed the course, didn't spend any money. Now
they made the blockbuster trade. We know the Twins that
(32:46):
that they'll never contend probably ever, Right, I think that's
probably a given that they if you're a baseball fan,
uh and you were around in eighty seven to ninety one,
by god, enjoyed and remember it, because we ain't ever
going to get there again. And then there were these
including myself, that thought, well, maybe it's the Vikings who
might be who might give the the the uh, the
(33:11):
state the best chance to win a major championship and
win the big game in the in the men's.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Major four because they're coming down out again.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
We know it ended badly last year with the two
losses at the end, they got crushed by Detroit, they
got beat by the Rams. They decided to go in
a different direction and started with a young quarterback. That
decision to go with the young quarterback and overload him
with a full system and not quite ready to play
his mechanics.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Even last night, if you're watching the game last night,
they were.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
They showed several highlights of Sam throwing the football or
not Sam, you're Sam JJ throwing the.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Football, And there were there was the one play where apparently.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
His mechanics were perfect feet, firmly planted eyes matched up
with with his feet through a nice pass.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Then there was those fast balls he throws where he
does look like a pitcher.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
He's making the big wind up and when he throws,
he's got that right leg swinging over the top.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
But it worked.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
But I think the Vikings and I've talked about this
really for the past few weeks. It appears as though
maybe the.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Coaching staff and the.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
The front office maybe overestimated how far along McCarthy was,
because I don't think it's any secret the team was
planning to contend this year by spending the money they
did on the interior of both the offensive and defensive lines.
Those players have been been okay. A couple of played okay.
The others certainly haven't. Haven't probably lived up to the
to the amount their contracts you would think they would.
(34:47):
And then the quarterback has struggled mightily until the past
couple of weeks he's looked a lot better. So it's
right now the wild It seems like it's the wilder
bust when it comes to, uh, somebody making a world championship.
This one says, I don't know if anyone outside of
(35:10):
Minnesota has Caprice Off as a top five player. Hey,
maybe they don't. I've been led to believe that he's
con well, he's the highest paid player. Now, highest paid
player doesn't necessarily translate into the very best player.
Speaker 7 (35:30):
But he's pretty good. Let's just let mean he's he's
the best player on the team. He's one of the
best in the NHL, for sure?
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Is he is?
Speaker 3 (35:40):
He top five?
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Though? That was that was what he That was the
debate five but you but you're not a hockey guy.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
Yeah, I'll put out the text to Bret and see
what he thinks.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Oh so here's.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Best five players NHL. M they don't have. Nobody has
him in the current top five according to what I'm seeing,
(36:21):
McDavid number one, Nathan McKinnon number two, Austin Matthews number three,
Dry Title number four, Cale mccarr, and Quinn Hughes. Our
guy ranked is number five. So yeah, nobody has I.
I uh, I stand corrected. It's this ranking from NHL
(36:48):
dot com. Is Quinn Hughes as number ten player in
the National Hockey League?
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Sure?
Speaker 7 (36:55):
I wonder if that's bolton board material for those guys,
if they have, no, I don't think.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
They really cares about that. I don't think if that
bothers any of those guys.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
But nonetheless, so yeah, I mean it's it's it's hard
not to be encouraged the now here's one here, Minnesota
fan or not. If you don't think Krill is top five,
(37:23):
you're on crack cocaine.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
I'll see.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
But then I here's what I don't know. See Now,
maybe I've been buying into this top five because maybe
it is the Minnesota bias. Right, sure, top five forwards
in the NHL, he's not on the list.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
This can't be right, though.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Then they've got an aging Matt Dushane at thirty four
years there's no way he can he considered better Sidney Crosby's.
He's isn't he done? I don't even think he's the best.
Not only is he not the one of the best
top ten forwards in in the national highker I don't
(38:15):
think he's the best forward on his team right now.
But there you go that. That's that's the numbers you have.
So it says Timberwolves will win their championship next boy,
(38:36):
I'm not ready to.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I'd love to hear how that's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Well, well, no, they're good. I mean I don't I
don't think they're not there. They're They've got a lot
of talent. I don't think anybody would would would disagree
with that.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
It's just.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
So so far this year, they've been able to beat
the lesser teams, the teams that have winning records, they've
they've struggled with for the most part.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
So they wanted to get yesterday. They didn't have edwards.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
They played fairly well yesterday from what I understand. But
the difference with the guy that here's all I give
you right here. Here's what the Vincenzo said after the game.
This is a quote from from the Fish Rapid says,
(39:28):
when we play defense, when we lock in, we get
stops and we're out and running.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
That's what kind of changed in the game.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Once we got to pushing the ball, we settled down
and handled things. In other words, playing defense, moving the ball,
playing with playing with a real purpose. In so far,
this team doesn't seem to. We've talked about the cross
ad nauseame. Here's one that says the tim Roles have
(39:57):
been the closest to winning championship since the twenty seventeen
Vikings who got blown out in the NFC Championship game.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
They weren't that far out of that NFC Championship game.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
I mean, if you look back at that, all they
really needed was a touchdown two point conversion and an
on side kick. Touchdown, two point conversion and an on
side kick. I'm a touchdown, two point conversion and an
on sidekick. But I know the Timberwolves have been the
(40:32):
closest I'm saying right now, we're talking about as.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
We speak, which team do you believe.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
As it obviously it's not It could still be the
Vikers if you if you believe that the Wild, that
this might improve the team, but they're not a real
threat to win a championship. And if you don't think
the Timberwolves are going to get back not only did
the Western Conference finals, but advanced to the finals, then
you could make that argument.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
But right now, I wouldn't put the timbrelves. I have
to put the Wild squarely in that spot right now
is what I would do. So let's do this. Let's
take a break. Did you put together a five three four?
Speaker 1 (41:02):
I did?
Speaker 4 (41:03):
You got a five to three four? So we'll do
that on the other side of the break. Uh, Sam
will grill me.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
On several questions. We'll do that. The other side can.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
You play some use Yeah, can they pulled up right here?
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Here we go, there you go.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
Yeah, it's kind of nice little beat to it.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
We'll take a break, five three four, coming on your
right on the other side of the break on the
common Man program on the Fan, The common Man.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
At night when I'm having home I listened to Denver Station,
Chicago station. You're the only guy in the world that
I would actually pay money to listen to on the Raid.
That's weekdays at
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Nude on the Fan
