Gooble thirteen fourteen pastime comedies tend to be the legendary.
Mark Rosen joins us now here on that afternoon program Afternoon.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
To You Too, Beautiful.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Dude all Right had coach with the soon to be
a Big Game World champion of Minnesota Vikings, met the
media today.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
He was asked.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Several different questions regarding the quarterback decision with Carson Wentz
this past it's a Thursday night game, Yes, the Thursday
night game. Coach basically said player decisions, player and the
medical staffs that he could go that.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
He was asked, well, did you.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Not see him on the field, right, No, I never
saw him kind of talking to officials. I think just
by the way he answered, he knew if he could
do it all over again, he never would have played him.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
He would have pulled him on. He wouldn't even have
started it much less less.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Well, yeah, that's that might be a little bit of
a quantum leap. But you're right. You might be right.
He may not have started him, but they were aware
of what his condition was since the London game that
he had that turned labroom.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
I still anne and fractured.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Right, I still just totally disagree with By the end
of the game, when the Chargers are up with three touchdowns, uh,
you know they're not going to keep hardball is not
going to do anything, and then keep trying to I'm
the saying, run up to score. The professionals they get
paid to win and they're going to do what they
have to do. But at the same time, I think
it would have been very safe to put Max Brozemer
(02:09):
and they're and get him some reps and throw some
safe passes and not you know, do anything reckless. And
with a battered and bruised offensive line, he still could
have gotten some playing time and more importantly, just get
Carson Wentz you know, off the ropes. And we talked
about it using the boxing analogy. We both watched a
lot of boxing matches where the cornerman throws the white
towel in. I mean it's like someone needed to throw
the towel in on Carson and for his own protection.
(02:31):
I mean, I know this thing, it could have been worse. Well,
I don't, I don't know. I don't know how what
to believe. I just think that the didn't pass the
eye test and just out of out of sheer, you know, mercy,
take them out of the game and let Max get
a couple of stamps, hand the ball off, do whatever.
They're not going to come back. And again, kaos men,
(02:52):
it sound like, well, you know, our perception meeting the fans, media, whatever,
of being out of the game isn't the same our perception.
And my answer to that is and I didn't I
wasn't able to listen to the entire news conference. But
you know, as you say, there was about thirteen fourteen
questions about Winston JJ McCarthy. I still have been. I
don't know, I've been. I've had a bug up my
(03:14):
you know what about this defense. And again when the
Vikings did score a touchdown against the Chargers, and it's
not the only game this has happened twenty four to ten.
Now it's time for the defense to step up. And
they allowed the Chargers to go right down the field
and give it. Give credit to LA, but the Vikings
have not been able to make a stop like that.
I don't know what Hargrave and Allen have been doing.
(03:35):
I don't know what Dallas Turner has been doing that.
The inability to get turnovers, I mean they had it
looked like they had one at the beginning of the game.
And then of course there was rule that the ball
hit the ground on Rogers that I'm not saying the
Vikings would have won the game, but that certainly does
change the momentum and the change the mindset as we've seen,
but that is those moments have been so few and
(03:57):
far between for the Vikings to put mean this, it's
going to be JJ McCarthy against a a better Lions
team on the favorite arguably to go to the Super
Bowl this year. You know, you need to get some
breaks defensively. Your defense has to step up. It's not
just on go out score Jared Goffin and Gibbs and
Mars Brown, Saint Brown and Montgomery and and that great
(04:19):
offensive line go get them. No stop, You've got to
make a stop. And that that goes back to the
Atlanta game. That goes back. You know there's been so
many cases, uh, the Eagles, the Vikings are able to
stop the run against the Eagles with Saquon, But we
saw what happened bombs away, Jalen Hurts hit a couple
of deep throats. That's that's been my I don't know.
(04:40):
I still don't know what the answers are. I don't
know how disappointed they are in those guys, in particularly
the money they invested in hard graven And and Allen
and and what Dallas Turner hasn't been doing. And it's
not just the fact that Van Ginkle has been out.
Ben Giegle's a terrific player, He's an explosive player, but
he's not the reason the Vikings are getting marched up
and down the field on So yeah, I mean, the
(05:01):
McCarthy story, it'll play itself out, however, it's going to
play itself out. But if he doesn't get some help,
this team doesn't give him some help on defense, it's
not gonna matter. It's just not He's not going to Also,
are you calling for Beflow's head. I don't think b
Flow is gonna be back next year, you don't wait.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Hold on from.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
No, it's not from Carring. But I'm just saying he's
not under contract for next year, and I I just
think that he It's not suggesting.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Are you hearing anything or are you just.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Hearing nothing. I just think it's going to be I
don't know. I mean just a gut feeling more than anything.
I don't have any inside information about it. It's just
unusual that the defensive coordinator who gets all these plaudits
isn't under contract for next year. Now he may that
might be his decision because you know, he has a
(05:57):
pending lawsuit against the NFL about collusion with other teams,
et cetera, et cetera, not helping himself a lot this
year with the defensive performance of that team. But I
just think because of the fact he's I don't know
if he's the only coach on not under contract for
next year. It's not to suggest that they can't come
(06:18):
to terms. And they still absolutely can and maybe they will.
I just asked you ask me a question. I'm giving
my answer, my opinions.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
It's it's always interesting to me how things can change
so quickly. Last year, yeah, Vikes were one victory away
from having the number one seed correct throughout the NFC playoffs,
laid an egg against Detroit Donald wasn't any good.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
They had the fifth seed. They get beat by the Rams.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Nevertheless, the head coach received the recognition as the Coach
of the Year. They had Donald decided they didn't want
to go in that direction, decided they wanted to use
the homegrown kid. But they rebuilt the interior of the
offensive defensive line, so it seemed like brought a lot
(07:08):
of people back from a fourteen and three team. You
would hope that the that the changes the players they
added in free agency would help this club in that
this young kid would JJ McCarthy would have the kind
of success or at least close to, you know, being
that same ballpark is is it Jade Daniels or how
(07:31):
a Drake may is playing now and be able.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
To catch it. And it's just funny.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
How things can change so rapidly because he's had two
pretty mediocre performances. Other than the one quarter, offensive line
is in shambles, the schedule is getting tougher and tougher,
the defense, as you mentioned, is not playing like it
has before.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
This has all change just in a short period of
hal and it happens in the NFL every single year.
And if you look at I don't know if you
saw Mark Craig's article today he wrote about the the Colts,
and I talked about it earlier, about the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Because they because the the the offensive line when when
you know it's it's you may you may have heard
me say I say this often where there's a reason
cliches are cliches because generally they're true. And the one
is is that you win games with your offensive and
defensive lines. And the Colts lost to players to us,
yet they had no problems in there. You know, you
alluded to his piece and I don't have the numbers,
(08:25):
maybe you have the article right in front of you,
but just how many how many games the offensive line
has played together.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
It's amazing.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
They haven't missed, you know, they've they've played two or
three of the guys have played every single snap so
far this season. You compare to that to what the
Vikings have then and other teams, I'm sure it's it's
it's night and day.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Well in the center, which was a key position, you know,
for the Vikings to acquire Ryan Kelly, who did have
concussions with the Colts, and now of course looks like
he probably I don't know if he's out for the
year or not, but they they have their replacement guy,
it doesn't matter. His name is Tanner Bordolini. I think
he started all eight games, playing four hundred and eighty snaps,
(09:04):
which is ninety six percent of the snaps they have.
They went down the line from the left tackle basically
playing in all the snaps the guy there can'ton bound
left guard, playing ninety four percent of the snaps. Their
right guards played ninety nine percent of the STAPs the
right tackle. I mean, this is a consistent, terrific offensive
(09:28):
line that Daniel Jones is benefiting from, and Daniel Jones
is having a terrific season in traste with what the
Vikings have now with the injuries they've had the fact
that Kelly has not been able to play stay on
the field, and it's sad and it's unfortunate that it
potentially could be career threatening because of concussion issues that
(09:49):
cropped up again. And I don't know. The Vikings obviously
had to do their due diligence medically before they before
they signed him. But here we are, here we are
if we yeah so, But that's that's excuse the defense,
and that's the thing that I'm just still I just.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Well, they only gave up twenty one points against Eagles.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
I know that, but it's been one thing after another
with this team. They Eagles didn't need to score it,
you know, and the Vikings had chances the way as
we know, you're done with this club, Well I'm not.
They're not gonna win the division and they still have
a shot at you know, yeah, of course they have
a shot at making the postseason. Well they do because
of the the the maritatically, I guess no, I mean,
(10:33):
you know, teams that lose it. Look at the NTEK.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Schedule remaining every team in the National Football.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
That's a week by week thing. But unfortunately for them,
as a great example, you know, the Ravens are getting
you know, Lamar Jackson's gonna be back. They have to win.
They're a desperate, desperate super Bowl you know type team.
Yeah that now has to win, run the table almost
to get in. So let's sellas pause come back. Tennbey's
got a key war. Try to put a.
Speaker 4 (11:00):

Speaker 3 (11:59):
A couple thirteen four past, I'm common He's Tennab, Mark
Rose and is here as well. If the playoffs started
today AFC in this order, Colts, Pats, Broncos, Steelers, Bills, Chargers, Chiefs,
who would have think thank Thom, Colts, Pats, Broncos, especially
(12:20):
Colts and the Pats because the Pats, I know they've
been I.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Think last year they were better than a few previous years.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
But Drake May, I don't think it really exploded onto
the scene at all, Haddie.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
I mean, it's really just been this year, hasn't it.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Tennabe that he had an encouraging rookie season, but he
had nothing around of him, he had no talent around him.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Now have a ton of talents around.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Him, and then and then, and then you look at
the Colts, and then of course the way the Broncos
have been playing.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
You can make a lot of money putting those two
one to two in the AFC before the season began.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, I mean normally you'd be rattling off just saying Chiefs, Bills, Ravens.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Yes, right now. The Ravens, as we know, wouldn't even qualify.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
And there's a lot of season we played wrongly about
halfway point, and I think the Steelers, as much as
they had a nice encouraging start of the season, I
just don't know if they're okay. Yeah, they're okay, and
that's no more than that. You know, that's probably as
far as that's going.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Again, the Colts would be refreshing. I mean, I think
it's been a long time, but you know, we've talked
about how they they managed to all the right pieces
and put them together. Right now, I don't know. I
don't have their schedule right in front of me and
who they've played, because they were not a great team
last year. They haven't exactly played all the heavyweights in
the NFL. And I think they got a game this
(13:36):
week they played. Hang on one second, I'll tell you
because we're doing spread screen nor well, they play at
Pittsburgh this week, relatively tough game. There's slight slight favorites
in that game. I thought they had a tougher game.
In the NFC, yep, it's Packers.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
They have the They would be the number one seed
right now at five one and one, followed by Eagles, Bucks, Seahawks, Lyons,
Rams and four nine Ers now loaded.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Eagles and Buccaneers are ahead of.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
The the Seahawks and the Lions and the Rams by
virtue they've played an extra game. They are both six
and two, while the Seahawks, Lions, and Rams are both
at are All three of those teams are at five
and two in those Obviously, those records will change, including
my best guess is the Lions win this weekend, but
who knows, we'll see. That's why they play the game.
(14:28):
So but once again, I think a lot of these
teams you kind of expected to be here of that top.
I did think Minnesota would be in this mix. I
thought they would be at this time of the especially
when we looked at their schedule. How it was probably
the softest schedule. It as terribly pointed out, and then
we talked about a little earlier today. They had the
(14:48):
easiest schedule to start the season. Now they have the toughest.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
So it's going to be well, as Kose pointed out today,
and that you got to play when you play them,
you know, your your record within your division is paramount.
If you're going to try to get into that dance
and the party, you have to win your division games.
And this is only the second game the Vikings have
had in their division. We know they opened up, you know,
I mean for crying all out ja J McCarthy and
I still, honestly, honestly don't understand how he was named
(15:13):
NFC Offensive Player of the Week by playing one good
quarter of football the fourth quarter against the Bears. But
still so be it. But the Vikings are one and
zero against divisional opponents so far, and that's where you
have to the Vikings have any glimmer of hope of
making some noise in December and getting into the conversation,
you have to beat your divisional opponents, and I don't
(15:35):
think anywere well what.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
I know, if the coach pointed out, that's where one
at all can argue with the record.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
And this was a Detroit Lion. This is the Detroit Lions.
They're trying to be one and o in the Detroit
Lions season.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
The Green Bay Packers. The remaining well, the remaining schedule
is there's a lot to be desired. Uh, they take
they host the Panthers, that's an easy win. This week
they're at and then they host the Eagles as well.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I believe now that game will be difficult.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
At Giants host the Vikings at Detroit for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Oh is it really? That's the Thanksgiving Bears.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
They're home to the Bears.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
They're at Denver, at Detroit, I mean at Bears home
to the Ravens. And then they finished the season against
the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
That's tough schedule.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
Well, I think it's an easy schedule.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Well, the Panthers, Giants, Vikings, Bears, Ravens.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
I don't think any of those teams.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Well, I think the Ravens will get I mean again,
their defense has been horrific. I mean forgetting that. Lamar
Jackson's coming back this week, he's playing. They play Thursday
night against an awful Miami team, So we'll see how
he responds and they respond. But they know what's at
stake right now. I think that's where you saw what
you know that hardball is going to get that team
(17:04):
finding a way. I mean defensively. I mean Lamarro give
him quite a boost offensively, and they still have plenty
of talent around him. But I don't know.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
I know everybody.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Everybody wants to say, Baltimore's fine, Baltimore's going to see
this week's let's see, they better start winning some games.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Yeah, they come here a week from Sunday. That's what
I'm saying that is that they're not going to lose
to Miami. I don't unless someone believes that.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
You ridiculed Miami. You thought their coaching be fired. I
know they beat your Falcons.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Cly Well, that was shocking to me how badly Atlanta
played that game, given that game was in Atlanta U.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
And I listened to the audio again, you basically said
Atlanta was it looked like a double digit victory for
the Well.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
I've said that based on the fact that every Miami's
last I don't know how many road games they've lost, by.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
No doubt of this Miami club, and I'm still outing him.
Their backs were against the Wall was gut checked.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
It was so bad that kirk Cousins is basically asking
anyone to pick him up off the scrap heap. Now
do you think the Vikings should Absolutely not. Well, there's
still games to win, Mark and kirk Cousins is going
to do. He can't because he's not going to get
the chance to They've been waiting long enough from the
time they drafted J. J. McCarthy to play him in
(18:24):
more than one game in a row. Let me ask
you a question. They're not going to bring kirk cousins.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
What if McCarthy's awful the rest of this year in
awful next year.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
This this team is awful next year, that's a whole
other conversation. If he's if he has a you know,
like has a year like you know, the first because
I look at it is this first year he didn't
play last year. If he has that kind of season that,
you know, like the start that bow Knicks had and
even Drake May with, although the Vikings have a lot
more talent around McCarthy than May had a year ago. Yeah,
(18:56):
I mean, well, if he has another terrible year next year,
probably cost Quasi's job. I mean, it's That's that's the
risk you take when you when you you have to
try to draft a franchise quarterback. I think they had
that Chiron of the Packers have had three quarterbacks in
how long and look at the list of yours. Yeah,
the Bears, the Lions, the Vikings have gone through a dozen.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Here's a text message I want you to ponder and
answer on the other side of the break, is there
is skis them within the Vikings. Alec Lewis hinted at
attention into the locker room and a lack of spark
underpass uh past rosters.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
With KOC, the.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Training stashes training step has also been under fire due
to injury management panic or patients. Want you to address
that controversial text message the other side of the break,
you're an insider.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
We'll do that. Next common program in the fan.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Jimmy Buckets was big again last night?
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Was he yeah?
Speaker 4 (20:21):
We didn't need him.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
I think Jimmy Buckets wanted to be here? Well he
did at one time.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Well, at one point he did. Yeah, it was a
fun time. Did he want to be here? He was
traded here. I don't know if he really had any
saying well, I don't think he did either.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Is your U? Is there tension in the Viking lot?
I have their tension between the coaches and the coach
And if I've heard.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Of some rumors, Alec Lewis and Ben Gestling and Kevin
Seaffert and those guys are there's reason why they are
called beat reporters. They're there every single day. They're plugged in,
they're they're at practice, They've talked to players on a
regular basis. I no longer do that stuff. I'm not
going to suggest that I know anything about schisms or
whatever might be happening or ten.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
I mean it kind of the elder statesman. Why don't
you dig into it?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
I don't really care to, all right, And I think that,
but I think what comes with the territory and what
I've learned over the years when that when I I
did see that stuff happening, is when expectations are sky
high and your team and they're and you're dealing with floundering. Well, yeah,
I mean the injuries, uh piling up the individual defense.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
There's no injuries on the defense.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
No, no, a lot. No, there's there's other than Van Ginkel. No,
there hasn't been, And so I don't there's always going
to be, you know, in meetings, and it's inevitable that
you know, and Kaosi can say all you want about
the kumbaya part of it that you know this team
and we've seen the videos when they do win, how
(21:47):
you know how tight knit their ssuposally are and you know,
you got to get well, you got to try to
get well. I mean, what what McCarthy potentially is going
to be able to do. And he does have justin Jefferson,
he does have Addison. Hopefully they're gonna have both Darrisaw
and O'Neill back full time this Sunday to at least
give him a chance against this juggernaut Lions team. I
(22:10):
don't expect a lot but I think what happens is
when you start losing teams are you know, I'm saying,
they're they're, they're, they're they're getting shredded apart. But you know,
it gets a little harder to look at the schedule
and go, Man, we had aspirations of picking up or
we left off last year with that Detroit game. More importantly,
(22:31):
when you as you laid out, I mean, it's easy
to forget. They literally were playing for the number one
seed in the NFC last year. That's how quickly things
can turn around and and will turn around again. I
mean the teams that are scrambling right now to make
the playoffs, or and the teams that you know, the
Colts teams, all those teams. There's always surprise teams. So
(22:53):
you got to stay the course and figure things out.
But I don't know what Wolves like tonight, right, Yeah,
well it's some cellation.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
What does the league do thirty.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Well, I mean it's it's they scheduled these games for
national television and you try to sell them to the public,
and then you got Anthony Edwards out, you got Lebron out,
you got Donzige out. I mean, you don't you have
the three big marquee stars not playing time out right
out yeah, and and le Bron's got a sciatic nerve
(23:28):
or something. Ant's got the hamstring, the hammy. So I mean,
your three marquee names aren't playing tonight, so you're selling
your product. Basically, should have a chance then tonight with
the well with they had no chance if he played,
probably not not without Ant. No, I mean their defense,
I mean they can someone said, uh said when watching
(23:51):
a game the other night, being out there. I mean
as much as Ants. You know, thirty plus points was missed.
They missed a lot on defense the other night. And
that's that's the difference. You know, you know, the Lakers
are two and two of the Wolves are two and two.
But I mean the Wolves are, you know, pretty big
favorites tonight they are, well, there's seven and a half
point favorites. I think because of the fact that you know,
(24:14):
Marcus Smart's also out, nonsense is out, Lebron's out.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
How are all these people of this season just started?
Speaker 1 (24:22):
I don't know, we had this doc yesterday. I mean,
Jalen Clark is out for the for the Wolves, and
again one of their better defensive players, and and who's
been extremely durable in play through everything is out, so
I mean, and certainly you don't want to, you know,
risk having anything further happen to Anthony Edwards when he's
(24:42):
your meal ticket to whatever success the Bikes, Vikings the
Wolves are going to have this year. But it's it's
just too bad from a ticket buying But I mean,
I enjoyed the game the other night. I think Shannon's
got to get more aggressive. I saw much more aggressive
Jade McDaniels. But as you talked about yesterday, uh, and
Finch has talked about, I mean, defensive they were, they
were kind of non existent.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Is concerned He's already said he's concerned.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Yeah, So what did you up?
Speaker 3 (25:05):
What did you enjoy more the game or the pre
game meal at the Lexus Club.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
I like the game more than the meal at the
Lexus Club. It was very good. But they have State Freaks, Yeah,
very nice. When a rare time they'll be out there, right,
it will be post time. He'll be at the Lexus rare.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
The only rare was the Freetz, the State Frets Freez
is that what you call them?
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I don't get them.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Rare.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I don't like rare, rare. Were you Alexis Club the
other day?
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Of course you was the other night.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Yeah. I took that picture of Anthony Edwards wearing his
slippers on the on the nights. Yeah, yes, on the floor.
That nice. Yeah, it was good. It was entertaining first
half in particularly, and then the Nuggets blew them out
in the third quarter.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
How about your wild club? They lose again. I was
watching out of control, uh, and it's just sort of
got capriceoff keeps turning the puck.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Over man and they had a chance.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
You know, the guy came suddenly sloppy with.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
This sloppy and they had it was big reunion night
last night. You know, Gabrick comes back and Pierre Mark
what's that?
Speaker 4 (26:16):
He had a wooden stick.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
I read that and Capriole is going to break all
the scoring records and Gabrick acknowledged that. How did he
keeps turning over the puck? Like they got bigger problems
than just that. But I don't know. It's Becauds have
to grow up in a hurry.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I'd expect to pick up where you left off.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
When you fire your fourteen win quarterback most important position
in the game.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Again, you have to have that. You have to have
a if you want to do a deep dive in
the whole mindset. First, you know, Darnold was offered a
contract here, and I think that he also knew, and
the game plan us set in motion. They were going
to start. They drafted JJ McCarthy to play when you
(27:07):
lose all of last year. Sam Donald played last year.
I mean I'm not suggesting that he would not have
played had McCarthy been healthy. I mean they brought in
Sam Donald, but at some point we were talking about it,
remember last year, for I think before we knew that
McCarthy was going to be out, Game three, game four,
whatever it might be, McCarthy's going to get in there.
(27:29):
They don't want to waste a year by having him
just throw practice footballs, you know, looking at the rest
of the rookie class that played last year. So the
answer that question again is because when you invest in
a quote unquote franchise quarterback, you're not going to have
him sit out another year. Now you can make the argument,
(27:49):
and the Packers have done it twice now going back
to Aaron Rodgers backing up Farv and you know the
situation they have now where they they're starting quarterbacks, sits
for a couple of years. Those days are, for the
most part, I think are gone. I mean, I don't
think it happens very often. And we'll see what Sammy
(28:10):
darnalds we can do with Seattle as the season progresses.
They have a good team, they have a good defense.
You know, but he might it might rear exluckily ahead
wish him well. I mean he was he was a
class actor, no doubt about it, and you wish him well.
But I think the you know, the handwriting was on
the wall. They're gonna play McCarthy and they're going to
live and die, not just the results this year, but
(28:31):
next year more importantly. That's that's just the way it
works out, with all the right proposition.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
From what we've seen so.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Far, well, I mean so far, that's I mean, that's
that's it. I mean, it's that he's brittle. Well, I
don't I don't know if he's brittal or.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Season and a half, he's played two games, missed an
entire year because of his knee, that he has a
high ankle.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Spring, what's next, Maybe he's back, and.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Of course Hutchinson's gonna want to show everybody. Yeah that
he earned one hundred and eighty million dollars deal one
forty one guaranteed.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
How about that? The Lions have did you say it?
Are at Tennessee hit.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
A billion dollarion dollars tied up and they've got guys.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Hutchinson, golf Saint Brown, Gibbs, the other wide receiver Williams
and Penny Sewell.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Yeah, I mean they've just they they're just.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Thirty, has done up, pushed all the right buttons after
forty years of ineptitude. I mean they have It's.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
They were not in up to nineteen ninety one. They
went to the NFC champions.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Okay when they were I know one year they went
twelve and four and away Fonts And for all you
kids out there, there was a time were going back
to Bud Grant. The Vikings would never and I mean
never lose to the Lions. The Lions were he kick
sand in their faces all the time. I mean, that's
that's the famous the dan Or Lawski running out of
the end zone in the back of the end zone
(29:59):
here at Metro. That was a nutshell.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
I'm glad he did because that allowed him to go
oh in sixteen that's right. If he doesn't. That was
the closest. That was the closest the Lions came to
a victory that year. They lost twelve ten and I
was at that game. Deuce and I were there.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
I think about how they I mean, they wasted Barry Sanders.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
He retired with still he could have played under the
five years, but he said, I can't do this anymore.
Say with the wide receiver what was his name, not
Herman Moore, with the other guy Megatron, Megatron, Megatron, same thing.
He'd only been in the league like nine or ten years,
and said, this is enough.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Guys, I can't do it the best at their positions,
and they had nothing around.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I think Stafford would have retired too. I think I've
been traded to the Rams. He'd had enough.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Yeah, man, well it's it's taken a long time. And
then I mean trot the troits, do you know to
finally break through? And this is NFC you just rattle off.
I mean NFC is they're loaded, loaded, and the Rams
might be You could argue that the Ram could be
(31:00):
the best. That's a good team, a really good team.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Matty Stafford is like a fine wine. He's playing his
good of football's he's ever.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
The forty nine ers are a hot mess because of
all the injuries they've had, and I don't see them
overcoming it. I mean it's just too much every position
and you throw what the biking is getting hit injured
a couple other teams and they're I don't know how
they're going to recover physically, going to recover from all
what they've been going through.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
How about that Toronto club last night?
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I love it. I'm glad you mentioned it.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Now they've got a big payroll too. They got the
fifth highest payroll they bought. It's one hundred million less
than they tried to get Otani. But yeah, they they
play the game, as they say, the right way. It's
not just hitting the ball out of the ballpark.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
They make good.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
That was big last night.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
It was when Guerrero hit the big home run. But
they put the ball in play. They just they get
base hits at the most opportune times. They don't have to,
you know, they do the right things offensively, which I
really like about that team.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
You do like this Toronto.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Louis Farland our guy coming back.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
I mean, he's you like Louis.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Yeah, how about intentionally balking h to put the runner
on third. So it was like the headed with Otani,
of course, Yeah, I've never seen that before. Well, they
decided they're not even going to pitch to all time.
They pitched to him he started, I mean he pitched
obviously in the beginning of the game, and he pitched
and then I think they gave him an un what
(32:25):
do they call it, unintentional intentional walk the first time
up they pitched to him. I'm using that they quotes. Yeah,
but they pitched around him. They're not giving him a
lot to get Now they play again tonight. Uh, and
your guy Blake Snell's pitching for the Dodgers. You would
think advantage LA in that one, but who knows. I
hope it. I mean it's too too right.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Yeah, two games.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
They got to go back to Toronto, no matter what
happens tonight.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Play tonight.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
It's like just like the Twins did in ninety one,
they fell behind three games to two of the Dodge
I mean, the Cardinals Swards won the.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Games of the series in a row. Your guys, Sandy
Colfax didn't pitch game one because of Young Kapoor In
sixty five and Donnie Drives he won, Colfax won.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
The Twins won the first two games, right, they beat
game They beat Drives the land Colfax the first game
we had.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
A two zip lead, and then Claude Ostein beat him
in games and.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
We lost four game. We lost four of the next five.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Yeah. Yeah, And it was all.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Because you were in the stands with that famous picture.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
That famous picture in game one. That's where I want
I went to. You know, they had to go back
out there a field bleachers. Think about it, remember.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Remember the old met You could you could you could
go underneath the bleachers and with the chain link fence
and be right there by the warning track. Yeah, of course,
And it was just you would just hang out. There
were just all dirt and stuff. There weren't seats.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
I don't even know why they allowed you to go
down there, but they did.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
That's during regular season games. And then they had the
old not whole day. You know, people he had buck
to go sitting. It was the hell of the stadium.
I loved, I loved Matt Stadium. It was it was home.
It was home to me, It really was. I have
such fond memories all the way through.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
You look a you're getting emotional about it.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Well I am. I mean it was a you know,
obviously the Vikings played there as well, but I mean
for it was a dual purpose stadium and they had
a lot of them back then. On the dirt remained
in the uh, you know, during the football season for
a while until the Twins season was over. But you know,
the Vikings had some hilacious seasons out there. Some you know,
bad seasons early on, but fun seasons and all the
way through. You know, purple people leads off.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Remember when the Twins used to have a convertible. Take
the pictures of the bullpen out out to the mom Well,
they weren't taven the monster was. They would they would,
they would, They would be in the right field another
warning track. They would hop inside a convertible and then
convertible would wheel them over.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
They didn't have to run in.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
They drove it comes their closer Bill Daily in the
back of the convertible. Remember Ron Peranowski, former Dodge.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
How about Bobby Miller.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Remember when we had Miller and Peranowski and the bullpen together,
they were basically on stopabill daily.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
It was my favorite relief pitch, won't you come home?
Bill Daily? I was, I was a rocket. That was
that was That was quite a treat when you watched
the I drive the convertible, bring the relief picture in
too far along from that bullpen.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Always a Cadillac convertible.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Correct, Well, I'm sponsored, I assume, but yeah, I don't
know if it was or not. I don't know. I
don't think they had sponsorships back then, back at that point.
So think about this casey would be announced.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Think about this your Metchbolt say it was your home
away from homeway back then, and I was.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
K I was, It's not that far from there now. Yeah,
someone had a picture I showed. I took a still
shot of Cofax at the game the other night, and
he's eighty nine years old, I'm saying, mouse and he
looks great. I mean, sixty years ago he beat the Twins,
(35:52):
you know, and on two days rest, and then without
being able to throw a curveball because his arm was
so messed up, and then he managed to pitch and
when the cy young A warred for the third time
the next year, and then he had to call it
quits because they didn't have the technology that was it.
He was done. But somebody had a ticket. I think
it was like ten bucks or something for the World
(36:12):
Series ticket. I mean in Toronto they're going for like
eight grand or something for a Saturday night's game or yeah,
I think what is today?
Speaker 4 (36:22):
They had for eight grand?
Speaker 1 (36:24):
I know, oh they are going. I know people up there,
they are going absolutely bonkers up there. And the fact
that they know now they get at least one game there.
It's uh, Toronto has been waiting, you know, for a
little while since what ninety three?
Speaker 4 (36:40):
The last ninety three was the last time.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Yeah, our guy Mollie was was was up there doing
his thing. Joe Carter. Yeah, it's a fun city. I
like Toronto a lot.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
Wasn't that when Joe Carter he had a walk off
to win the World Series?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Did he down the left field line?
Speaker 4 (37:00):
He was waving it like that.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
They had one of my favorite just like Carlton Fisk
or that was Carlton Fisk. Dave Steve was the guy
who was always a really loved rock solid, you know,
every fourth day, give him the ball kind of pitcher,
you know, workmanlike, blue collar kind of guy. But yeah,
they have some. They had some really good players, I
guess were good players today. Hopefully Springer. I think Springer
(37:23):
is gonna be able to play tonight, so let's hope
so is he. That's what I heard earlier today in
one of the national shows that he's uh, he's got
that tweak in his back, but I guess he was
available for pinch hitting last night, but hopefully'll play tonight.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
You can use him.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Yeah, ball hands on deck at this point, mark core wrecked,
but it's been I hope people are tuning in. You know,
baseball gets even pushed aside even you know, because they
had because of everything going on. And you know, look
at you have a classic game the other night with
eighteen innings. I mean, if you could stay up till
one thirty in.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
The morning, Berdie Freeman with a game winner walk off.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
You see that coming. He's got that great up cut swing.
He's he's money when it comes to situations like that.
But uh, give Toronto credit for Boston back last night.
After that emotion.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
A lot of people have written that had written that
club often.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Especially with Little Tani coming back to pinch last night,
He's okay. Might be one of the greatest athletes of
all time. I mean he is uh team though.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Yeah, I know I have a story that I haven't
used yet.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
I got a couple of days old, and it's one
of those that's he's had a little longer shelf life.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
But there are quotes from all sorts of.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Athletes talking about what they think about Tani And you know,
my homes has got a quote a lot of a
lot of a lot of players, a lot of basketball players,
and they're talking about it and they can't believe how
good this guy can be. That you know, that's it's
you know, in basketball, there's really nothing similar cause you
play offense and defense all the time. But you know,
some of them Garrison's have been like I think even
(39:03):
Sue ended a piece on this too, where you talk
about it would be like a goaltender, you know, shutting
out a team and scoring three goals, right, you know
what I'm saying. Well, or like a quarterback throwing three
touchdowns and then making three interceptions. You know, and the
only guy that it could do that would be the Yeah,
but it is amazing. But it is the one sport
(39:25):
where you you know, you can pitch and you can't hit.
It's just we've never seen anything like it since rude
and I.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Think you bring up a good pointment when other athletes
from other sports, the top athletes are kind of in
awe of what Otani is doing right now. You know
that's a testament to just correct his greatness. He's just
not another superstar. I mean, he's he's elevated the game
and played, you know, at his best, and we still
have to see if he can you know, be the
(39:51):
guy again and see and find a way if he
gets if they pitched to him to uh to find
a way of of of of winning another World Series
for the Dodgers. But he's something special. Spread swing tomorrow
you will be in a one thirty, right, I will
Cooldu's had a really good week. He finally turned it
or it's only taking him three how many years? So
(40:13):
I'll take him three years to finally pick a couple
of games?
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Right?
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Are we sure he's just not going against what his
actual thoughts are if he's just taking the opposite of
what he said?
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Did he talk about this, did he talk about this
on the air? You know what he did a couple
of weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
He then he made bets on like fan duel opposite
of what he picked, if there was anything we won
money to go, So he wanted to see if there
was anything to it because you know, all the people
have you know a lot of the listeners have said
they go to Diamond Joe's right away or whatever.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
They just bet on the opposite of what Duce picks.
Duce decided to do anyone money, so good for him.
So that's tomorrow at one thirty.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yeah, tough week, tennebe, haven't you aligned up program passwords yet?
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Or still?
Speaker 2 (40:56):
I have? Oh some some big names this week? Oh really,
yeah you missed you missed passor for two weeks? We
got bring in the big one.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Okay, well we'll talk about that at a later date.
We'll see you tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Then rolls yet one thirty Right, got it, Thank you, Tay,
thanks for having meat job.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
You as well.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
We enjoyed our visit with you today and we'll be
back tomorrow twelve. Stick around, Big ticket j G. They
are next year in the family. I'm a fraud.
Speaker 5 (41:25):
Yes, good night, all right, good.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Night, good night missus calabash where
