Bonus Bucks is presented by two men in a junk truck.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Two men in a junk truck.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Remember we used to call them Minnesota the Vikings in
Minnesota Moving Company.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Maybe we should call.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Them two men in a drunk truck because they only
got too healthy offensive line.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Sorry about that. I'm not taking glee in it.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
If you remember, yesterday I was criticized for being negative
against the hometown teams. Remember think I've been. I wasn't here,
Oh that trait you were? Yeah, I got criticized that.
One person suggested that we the Vikings leave the fan
because everybody here on the fan.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Hates the Vikes.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
No, it's just like so he wanted me to to
ducky and bunny it up and say we're.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Gonna beat the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
We're gonna figure it a way.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yeah, what I did say is if they get competent
quarter back play out of Wentz and don't let a
quarterback at a one hundred and fifty three point eight
QB rity, we have a chance to win the game.
Wentz was awful, and I don't know what the QBR
rating or the QB rating was for Harbaugh.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
I know it wasn't perfect.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Earned Harbaugh, for Kyla Herts, for Herbert, I know it
wasn't perfect, but I bet it was darn close anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Time for five to three?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Four?
Speaker 5 (01:31):
In no.
Speaker 6 (01:33):
Time? Now for five questions? Well, actually three, but five
sounds like more than four. Question number one, and now
it's time for the seventh inning stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
The World Series begins tonight in Toronto as the Blue
Jay's host the Dodgers for Game one. The Dodgers are
minus two to ten favorites to win the series. That
equates to a sixty percent chance of winning. Common what
is your World Series prediction?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yeah, I mean again, I'll go with the Is it
called going with the chalk?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I find it.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
You know, a wise man once said, if you play defense,
if you put some play defense, you give yourself a
chance to win the ball game. I don't know how well,
the Dodgers are defensively, but but the.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Starting staff is terrific.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
I think either you asked it in a five, three
four maybe bright Brett Blakemore did yesterday about is this
you know, the best pitching staff? Yeah, and again I
mentioned some of the mepact. I want to I want
to even go back. We'll do this later as well
as we're tap dancing to kill sometimes. I don't know,
you know, there's only so much we can say about
a terrible team in a terrible city with terrible fans,
(02:50):
a terrible state at the vikings. But another Baltimore fan host, Yeah,
well that's that's that's I'm sorry about that. But anyway,
I think the Dodgers that the pitching staff's too good.
You have snell Yamamoto, Otani and then who's the fourth
I can't think of his name right.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Now, But those guys I don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
You know, I guess if Seattle tears the cover off
the or Toronto tears the cover off the off the baseball,
but I just that means, think of this. If those
pitchers pitch like they have been in postseason, they've been
virtually unhittable, you're gonna have very few chances to score runs,
(03:31):
which puts all the pressure on your you know, we
talked to you know one the one text message earlier said, well,
the poor Vikings offense led to poor Vikings defense because
they're on the field all the time. And there is
some truth to that. But you can take that into
baseball too. If you're facing a.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Pitching staff that that that.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Isn't allowing more than a run or to a game,
that means your pitching staff has to be every bit
is good. And I just don't I don't think Toronto's
quite matches up to what the Dodgers said. I don't
see how they could. Though I can't name a starting
pitcher on Toronto. I can't believe they.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Sare are still there.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
That's a good question. I don't know them.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
But I'll take the Dodgers, and I'll take them at a
sweep or five at the most, a gentleman sweep.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
As what were they like to call it?
Speaker 6 (04:20):
Question number two?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
It's time now for it's a low down in Dilkie down.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
The Gophers football team will meet Iowa for the one
hundred and nineteenth time tomorrow in an effort to recapture
the Floyd of Rosedale, Iowa five and two this season,
they're allowing just fourteen points six points per game. Minnesota
has not been as good on the road this season,
with both losses at California and Ohio State, both teams
currently a part of a six way tie for third
(04:49):
place in the Big Ten at three and one. Common
can the Gophers bring home the pig tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
While it is a really big game, there's another game
he played Iowa tomorrow not getting as much as tension.
That would be seven and oh BYU against Bob Time
for two more Hagan's alma mater or Iowa State in Ames.
That's a good game that'll be playing at Mike Tyson Stadium.
I didn't realize they named the stadium after Mike. I
(05:15):
didn't even know we played for Iowa State. But that's
a big game, seven and zero against five and two.
That'll be a two thirty game. That game just not
getting enough attention. I do think it's funny, funny, especially
in football, and then we talk about overreaction Monday, you know,
week one overreaction, Week two overaction. We'll think they're the
best team in pro football. Then they lose and we
(05:36):
think one of the one of the worst teams profer
well the Gophers. I know they beat Perdue, but the
way they did it was just it was smoking mirrors.
I thought, well, this team's not any good and then
they just destroy Nebraska. So and Nebraska was ranked twenty
fifth coming into the ball game. The kind of win
where if you're a student, I think you store them
(05:56):
the field if you win a game like that, and
they did won the game and they store them the field,
I think they can beat i But now I was this,
this will be a good game.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Hold on, let me hit the rewind. It has all
the trappings of a good game.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
You have, you know, the rivalry, and it's big ten
and both teams I think whether they're both five and
three is have.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
What you said, five and two, five and two, So
they they they have they both three and the big Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
So I think it looks like and even the match
game I know Iowa doesn't present the most asthetically pleasing
kind of a football. You know, they're they're they're generally
not known for that.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But as read some of today that they're they're five
offensive linemen YEP were their highest graded players on by
Pro Football Focus their best five players with their five
offensive linemen. The Gophers clearly in their last doubting against
named Nebraska were able to pressure the quarterback like crazy.
(06:57):
So we'll see if they will be able to do
the same Dye well, even though they're not gonna be
dropping back to pass as much.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Farence is the longest tenured coach in the Big tenant
twenty seven years.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
You know who's number two? PJ Fly? Yeah, that is it?
Nine years?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Would have thought?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Who would have think? Thanks? Thanks?
Speaker 5 (07:14):
So?
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Uh yeah, I there's and then uh, Deuce's Nebraska club plays.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
What do they have?
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I forget now what they play out? Care well, Deuce
and I care, Yeah, I don't care. Care they get
Northwestern Northwestern. Burrios is injured. He's on the team that
he's injured. So I'll be I'll watch a little bit
of the Nebraska game. I'll watch golphers. I'd even watch
a little b y U Iowa State, Ohio State, the
(07:48):
Ohio State baby brother Peters al mam are his school.
They are off this week, so I watch.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
I'll watch them college.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
Number three games. Let's win, let's get.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
It's now time to take an in depth look at
the state of the skull.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
The listeners want positive Vikings discussion, here you go.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
If you want the positivity, where'd you find it?
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Last night, Justin Jefferson topped the eight thousand yard mark
for his career, making him the youngest player to reach
that benchmark. At twenty six years one twenty nine days.
Jefferson bested Randy Moss's record by one hundred and sixty
eight days. My question for you, common, who's the best
Vikings wide receiver of all time? Justin Jefferson or Randy Moss.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Dean Washington. I would say maybe Ockbomber, Shod Chris Carter.
I also like Paul Flatley a lot.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I think that I like Hassan, Paul Olivans Jones.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yes, well there's there's him too, And you also have
Troy Williamson. I would say, obviously, with the way his
career has started, and looks like Jefferson is headed toward
that that he would be, but you know, we got
(09:08):
to let his career play out.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
But yeah, I mean his numbers quarterback play those that
that's correct.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
His his numbers have eclipsed Mosses, so statistically wise, you
would say, yeah, I don't know, you tell me Tonaby
when the Vikings drafted Moss. If you remember the green
Bay Packers used their first two picks in every draft
for like five years taking defensive backs, That's how much
he changed the way green Bay, the art rival approached
(09:39):
the draft was they were just concerned about Randy Moss.
I don't know if Justin Jefferson is having the same
effect on other teams.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I don't see.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Teams, you know, in the de and maybe they are
drafting a lot of defensive backs. And I'm just on
paying his close attention to Detroit, Green Bay in Chicago
a draft night or draft weekend. You know what the
best three days in sports are, Well, the very best
day in sports the third day of the NFL Draft.
The second best day is Day two in the in
the in the third best day is day one. But
Moss changed the way Green Bay approached things. So but yeah, Jefferson,
(10:11):
right now you could make the argument for either you
lean Jefferson or Moss.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Right now, well, I would say the pros for Justin
Jefferson compared to Randy Moss are JJ comes across as
or I should say Jets Jets comes across as much
more consistent and much more professional.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Right.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
I think he's probably a better teammate. I think he
you know, Randy Moss admitted play when he plays when
he wants to play, And that's always kind of been
the argument of when you're talking about greatest of all time,
Randy Moss was Jerry Rice was well, Jerry did this
for a long period of time and did everything.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
It was your ultimate professional.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
To me, there's no one in the history of the NFL,
at least since I've been born, that has the ceiling
Randy Moss does. I like Randy Moss at his best
was better than every other wide receiver, including Justin Jefferson. Well,
but you never necessarily got his best all the time.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
This text message says Jets is an amazing receiver, but
I'm sorry he does not pass the Randy Moss eye test,
not even close.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Especially like the you know, yards after catch. Randy Moss
compared to yeah, JJ's yeah, correct, and just he was
such more of a deep threat where they had to
place so many guys back so far, which had an
impact on the rest of the office.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Correct.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
And that's it for today's edition of five questions, Well,
actually three questions, but five sounds like more than four.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Hey, maybe i'll check a couple of talkbacks. Shuit we've

Speaker 4 (12:41):
No program password one text message, very disappointed with the
with the heartbreaking loss. Why wasn't heartbreaking? The devastating loss,
the complete beatdown. The vikings took out the hands of
the chargers. He was looking forward, it'll be a lighter side,
looking forward to program a password. He thinks we let
him down, Tennabe, and I left it up to you.
(13:04):
You said you want a new program password. I said,
it's up to you. And then what you did was
you decided not to do so you've actually let that
listener down. Yeah, he's crushed, just so you know that.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
And I don't know. I think you'll still sleep well tonight.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I take full responsibility, but you should take full responsibility
for that.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Here's something else I found, Tennabe. Let's talk a little
while for so we're going to get to some talkbacks.
I promise we'll do that at one thirty, but I
got plenty of them.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
When was the Wild's last game?
Speaker 2 (13:34):
They played Wednesday night against at New.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Jersey, a loss.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Okay, And here's what a coach, John Hines said. I
think this was after this that game.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I'm pretty sure what's the day today?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Today is the twenty fourth of October.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Because I read this h one fifty five October twenty third,
one fifty five am.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Think about it.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I was prepping for the show at one fifty five am.
Show you the date on the saved. Well, here's what
I do is I fall asleep on the couch at
about nine o'clock, wake up about one, and then I
spend an hour reading and then I go back to bed.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
So one fifty five. This is this was the quote
I say, from.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Your sleep is exhausting. You need a break from your sleep.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Yes, from coach John Hines, just what he said. The
power play was indicative of most of the five on
five play. It was overpassing, not enough shooting. And when
the power play was going early, when you look at
all the goals, they were shots, tips, rebounds in and
around the net. And tonight we didn't have a direct,
shove it down your throat mentality on the power play.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
And we didn't get anything from it.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
You like the mincing little steps on the ice and
passing looking for the perfect you know, pass from A
to B to C to D to e FG and
then went for that perfect open shot and score.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
John Hines agrees with me.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Andy agrees with the fans. Shoot shoot shoot your thoughts
on this quote.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I love that you've really tried to play this as
if I don't want the players to shoot. The Fuck's
that you've now taken it to the extreme.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Isn't that what you?
Speaker 3 (15:09):
No?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
I don't like when fans yells shoot when there's not
an open lane to shoot at. So at that point, obviously,
if there's an open lane to shoot, I'm all four shooting.
But even one of the power plays the other night
zeb buuyam, they win, the draw, goes back to to
the point, shoots it right into the guy's shinpads, goes
into the in our own zone, and now we have
(15:30):
to try to get re established position in the offensive zone,
which is a challenge. It's hard to do in the
NHL when they line up four guys across the blue
line and you just killed twenty or more seconds off
your power play just trying to establish possession of the
offensive zone again, and then you're scrambling around while you
do it. So I will say, generally speaking, five on five,
(15:54):
they probably do need to have more of a shot mentality,
and I think it's mostly just because they're not after
that top line. They're not very skilled, right, I mean,
Felino and Heinnestrosa and Hartman and you know other Johanssen's
and even Tarasenko at this stage of his career, they
should all be thinking shot first, get the buck to
the neck, because that's just how they have to score
(16:15):
goals because they were just not skilled enough. Passed Caprizo
and boldly.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Shoot.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
I just like saying it, shoot well, mehoo.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Shoot the games they've had the most success, you know,
even though they didn't win the Columbus game, they put
up fifty some shots there. They they were a shooting
gallery against the New York Grange. Now they got a
decent amount of shots off, I thought on the Devils,
but only scored a goal. Yeah, do you have a
(16:50):
lane to shoot the puck? Please go ahead and do that.
Shooting is a good play.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
We've played a night, Is that correct?
Speaker 4 (16:55):
No?
Speaker 3 (16:55):
I think they're tomorrow night. Tomorrow night we begin our
home trip.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
That was not a very successful five game road trip
in which they went one, three and one. Now I
believe they're at home for six games. If I recall
correctly with the Utah Mammoth where they just beat the
Blues seven four last night.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I call the Woolies.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
We're taking on the Woolies at They should play Woolly Wooly.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
They should DJ should to borrow eight at Grand Cassina.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
They should have their mascot would be chev Woollie.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Utah has one six five in row. They are six
and two.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Wow, is this the first year team?
Speaker 3 (17:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (17:33):
What they moved to Utah after they were always the
Arizona Coyotes.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Yeah, that's right, that's right, So it's not an expansion club.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
And last year they were the Utah Hockey Club. Yeah,
this is their first year is the Mammoth?
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Remind me? Were they awful in Arizona or just nobody
showing up.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
To games or both combination of both?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I mean this has been the current team they have
has been. They've been rebuilding this for quite some time.
A younger players that are now starting to come into
their prime a little bit, including Logan Cooley who played
here at the University of Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Was the Phoenix Club? How long were they in Phoenix?
Ten years, fifteen?
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I can't give you an exact day they used to be.
I think they were from. Is that the Winnipeg Jets,
because my.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Question for you would be did they ever was it tenants?
Always in?
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Otherwise did they ever have a.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Stretch where the team was pretty good and then a
lot of people didn't know?
Speaker 2 (18:25):
I mean, I can't tell you the first couple of
years as a franchise, but they've never been great.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Okay, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
You would always watch Wild games on television, and the
Wild would score a goal and it sounded just like
as big of a cheer as if Arizona had scored.
Because lots of Wild fans traveled there, they did not
fill the stadium. They had stadium issues. If you recall,
they were playing in a college arena, a college rink
the last couple of seasons, right where they were playing
(18:53):
at Arizona State.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
He's seven day forecast is nice and going to be
fifty eight today, fifty six Saturday, sixty, Sunday fifty, Monday
fifty two, fifty to fifty four, and.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
The low's allow me to play golf in most of
those mornings. Cross this morning, Yeah, well there's thick frost.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
That's why I did That's why we did not. I
did not play this morning.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
But it looks like we're going to be frost free
for the next week or so, or probably close to that.
I'm sorry you were saying they were they were playing
in a.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
College Yeah, yeah, so they had arena problems, so the attendant,
so that's why they moved to Utah. Now I think
he sold the team, So it wasn't it wasn't just
a relocation. I think he sold the team to.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
My guess would be Phoenix is a large city. I
think they're population wise, I think they're top ten.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
They might even be top five to six.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Any any professional sports league would like to have a
team base there, right, because they have a large population.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
No, I mean, like Houston has a large population.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I was getting that. I was getting it.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
I was saying that most it was just taking a
long time to get that. We got a lot of
time to kill that most leagues would like to have
a franchise in one of the biggest cities.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
In America because Phoenix is there.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
But if people aren't supporting it, and I just like
they were probably depending on a lot of snowbirds, right,
people that maybe came from northern climates, because I just again,
I know you can be in a warm weather climate
and still support a hockey team because it's happening in
Florida or right? Are the Panthers getting sold out? They're
(20:28):
winning Stanley Cups, right, I think is their winning.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
I think previous to winning, they weren't selling a lot
of tickets there.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
So my question for you then is do you.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Think Arizona if there is an expansion. They're never going
to be on the list again, are they. We'll never
see hockey in there, I mean ever, But it would
be a long.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Way because there's other big teams, like a big city
like Houston that's also no warm but you know, you know,
Vegas is a whole different type of southern city. But
that's a warm climate in which they know a lot
of people are going to travel from elsewhere to go
watch games there.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
They've been selling well, I know that.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
I suggested that when the Kansas City Chiefs were being
courted by was it Levenworth?
Speaker 1 (21:07):
So they were being courted by.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Just over the border in Kansas to move there, right
because of the stadium issues, because they wanted to refurbished stadium.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
And the voters voted no in the county where the.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Chiefs reside, I suggested that the Chiefs move here to
Saint Paul. Yeah, do you think the Twin Cities could
sport another hospital?
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Let's have a Minneapolis team and a Saint Paul team
or why not?
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Do I actually think the Twin Cities, I mean they.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
The wild still sell tickets right, Oh, they're selling out
basically every game.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Yeah, so why couldn't this town support another hockey team?
Why can't we have two teams? New York does Los
Angeles Dutch Chicago.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
I thought we were at the state of hockey. Yes,
let's get.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
It pumped up around here, talkbacks next Common Man program
in the fan.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
We all remember that teacher who made a difference, who

It sounds like I'm musing you to hear going into
an episode.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Of Little House in the Try or what was the
one with John Boy Goodnight? John Boy Walton, who is called.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
The name of this set of songs is Happy Harvest,
Happy Harvest. This song is called funny Scarecrow that grows awful.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Funny Funny Scarecrow.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Listen some farming music right here.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Yeah, it certainly is Halloween right around the corner.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Before the program's over, we'll take a look at some
halloweenster my ideas. Also, I wanted to do a pitching
matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and what they did.
A breathtaking performance over four games against the Brewers, but
I want to compare it to a team from back
(23:17):
in my day and starting pitching staff that did as well,
if not better, and that was in the World Series
against the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
But we'll look at that later.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Right now, I want to take a look at some
talkbacks or listening to some talkbacks. Vikings destroyed last night.
Was at thirty seven ten? Was at the final score? Yes,
it lose to the San Diego Chargers. It was never
a ballgame. Let's listen to some of the talkbacks, and
you have talkback potted up.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yep, let's go ahead with this first one. You know
which one is the first one? Let me see if
this is it.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
Hey, com and kill kind of clipper guy here. This
might be sacriligious to say because he's a beloved player,
but Harrison Smith looked horrible last night. I know there's
everybody did. But if I'm just going to pick out
one thing, since they only have thirty seconds, terrible slow,
no effort, just kind of stabbing at the ball, not
(24:19):
even trying to make a tackle. Yeah, I'm just saying,
should have retired.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Kennedy, Do you agree with that? Harrison Smith awful last
night and should he announce his retirement?
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Well, who wasn't awful to his early point? We still
don't really know exactly what the health issue was with
Harrison Smith before the season, or he missed some.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Times earlier in the year.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
I have no idea how much you know a guy
at his age and you're like sitting out for that long.
It's harder to recover at that age than it is
some of the younger guys. I don't know if that's
still having a lingering effect, if no cambine them back
there in the secondary is having an effect, if the
lack of pass rush, I mean, this is you know,
(25:09):
as the Twins one said, this is like.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
A total system failure.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I would love to be on the air today and say,
you know, if we just change just one thing, we
can still salvage this season. Correct, But when it's you
got no pass rush, you can't stop the run. Your
secondary is bad. Your offensive lines not only bad, but
it's not healthy. And at this stage you can't count
on it being healthy at any point, because you've now
gone a month straight of your left tackle being on
(25:34):
a pitch count, and now your right tackle's re injured.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
There's no quarterback we can trust that we know, and
they've got a challenging schedule coming up.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Even before these last two games, I was saying with you,
through five games, the Vikings had the easiest schedule in
the Interrenational Football League, and they were three and two,
and if you look like the quarterbacks, they were playing
not a lot of dangerous quarterback right now. The last
two weeks they've played quarterbacks, Yeah they have.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
They have not.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Faredwell against Jalen Hurts, they have not faredwell against Herbert.
They didn't farewell against Aaron Rodgers. And yeah, Jared Goff
coming up. Lamar Jackson looks like he's gonna play Sunday.
He'll probably be back for that game. You're still gonna
have to hit Jordan Love twice here, Dak Prescott, Heck Jackson,
Dart looks like a quarterback all of a sudden, So
(26:28):
and from that five week point you had played the
easiest schedule, and from that point on it was the
most challenging schedule in the International Football League.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
So this season can get away from him very quickly.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Here's another talkback here on a talk back Tuesday on
Phone it in Friday.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Boy and Mike Glad.
Speaker 8 (26:46):
We spent all that money in the offseason on Hartgrave
and Alan what a joke. We should have kept Phillips Redman.
He's playing his butt off. I got to give that
guy credit. He looks like he was the only one
that wanted to be out there last night. Obviously, injuries
are killing us, but you know, the offensive ineptitude Hawkinson
(27:07):
nowhere to be found. I think KFC's could be on
the verge of losing the team if they don't shore
this up.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Your thoughts tend to be he makes them salient points.
I mean it. I would say that hard Raven Allen
have not. They spent a lot of money on those players.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
We looked at their stats, at least their their their
pass rushing stats, and they're not providing the kind of
sacks that the number of sacks that I think we
had certainly hoped for.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Well, I don't think Harrison Phillips would have been their savior.
I think he's a pretty pretty average middle of the
road player and he was good to stop he run.
He became expendable because Jalen Redman. They wanted to get
more minutes for Jalen and Jalen Redmond is one of
the few right spots on your defense, and there's not
a lot of right spots between him and and Jonathan Ornard.
(27:57):
Do you have two guys that at least appear to
be giving effort last night. Yeah, but yes, Harrison Phillips
would are better run stopping than the end. To your point,
if those two guys in the middle, Alan and Hargrave
aren't rushing the passer, then they're not much of help
to you.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Hey, common JD Florence, Texas. Everything that koc did in
the off season offensive line, center, running backs, defense, he
changed everything from last season has come back to bite
him in the dairy air. And that just goes to
show you that a coach isn't always right. The only
plus that has come out of this whole situation is
(28:37):
we have the next franchise quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings,
Mac Brosner.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
My take. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
I don't know if it's Broseman or not. We better
hope it's McCarthy because here here's the situation.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
It's gonna be hard for McCarthy to develop. With the
offensive line the way it is.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
Putting anybody, any quarterback you would put in there, I
think struggle. I mean, unless it was Fran targeted in
his prime where he could run around, they get chicken
with his head cut off, right, But now you're putting
in a guy that, let's face it, it's well documented,
twenty two years old. He's only played two full games
in the National Football that he had that he had
the one half of football in preseason last year, injured
(29:20):
his knee out for the year, and.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Then he's played literally two games.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
And he didn't look all that good except for the
one quarter. And now you put him behind this offensive
line and the defense that can't seem to stop anybody.
There's gonna be some real growing pains here, I think.
And you know, they do get a couple of extra
days because of the Thursday night game. Will that allowed
Darrisaw and O'Neil to come back.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
I don't know. Dearrisaw came back and now he was
out and O'Neill came back for a game and then
he couldn't go so and you know.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
If I'm the Vikings, at this point with Derisa where
he's on sounds like he was on a self imposed
pitch count, and then he played two series last night.
At some point you got to look at the player
and go, are you playing or not? We can't keep
putting you on the roster and having you to show
up for half the time and not knowing what we're
gonna get out of you. I'd rather have a player
that hey, even though it's not going to be a
player as talented as Christian Derisa, you need to know what.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
You have going.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
It reminds me of Aaron Jones last year, where even
he'd play through the beginning of the second quarter and
then you would have a couple of series without him
and just not dependable.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Well publicly, I don't think even at three and four
you heard one of the sound bites in your in
your montage to start that great job in the montage.
By the way, for those of you missed it, Ufo
and rock Bottom six and a half minutes.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Did you think it was a rock bottom montage?
Speaker 1 (30:37):
I thought it was a top notch montage.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
It's a rock bottom montage. And then I'll get offended
by you calling it my montage. It was a rock
bottom montage. What was wrong with it?
Speaker 1 (30:47):
What was rock bottom is what it was.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
It was a great montage.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
It was almost unidentifiable. So what was I talking about?
Speaker 2 (31:02):
The sound bites from the rock bottom montage?
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Yeah, one of the players had not keep it up
on the season, and again publicly, that's the stab. But
I got to think in that locker room, and I'm
not saying they're going to come and mail it in.
They're not going to pull a Baltimore Ravens, I don't think.
But it's pretty hard to convince yourself, after which you've
seen the past couple of weeks, that it's going to
get that much better.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
So then.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Do you just tell Darisa? Look, And I'm not even
saying I don't, I'm not. I think there might be
some whispers.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
That maybe he's not a tough guy.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Oh what do you mean, you can't play other guys
suck it up and play after knee and as like that.
Only he knows his body. And as important as the
left tackle position is this season, does seem to be
and there's in dire straits. So I would just say,
you're sitting out for the next few weeks until it's
one hundred.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Percent because you need him if he is.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Your long term answer at left tackle, and he's supposed
to be, and I gosh, there's no sense playing them
and taking a chance on on reinterescing.
Speaker 6 (32:05):
Same with O'Neill.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
I let O'Neil sit another week.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
Now.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
That's the current way they're doing.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
It's not making it better, correct, And I know that's
detrimental to JJ McCarthy's health, but you know that's the
way the National Football League is.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
You know, you got you gotta suck it up.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
So that's what I would do, is I would just
rest those two guys until they're completely because you know,
again there's more than just this season. You got to
look into the future. They're both still relatively young there.
They're supposed to be your anchors on each side of
the line for the next five to ten years, I think, right,
because even O'Neill's how many he's only five six years
into his career, right, oh, a longer than.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
That getting a little I mean, he still has some
years left, but he's got to be the longest more
than ay longest end your guys on the team at
this stage.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
Hi, Common, this is Randy from Duluth. You know you're
right on that. It's WinCE was heard he should not
have played. And the problem now is, Okay, everybody looks
at him as a tough guy. I look at him
as a tough guy.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
For me, that game is an ass. He played hurt.
Speaker 9 (33:01):
There's no way he could play to any semblance of
his abilities, which are a backup quarterback at best. But
now he probably ruined his career because people are going
to look at this experience and say he's done. And
that's very sad. I don't blame Josoft or not.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
They're kind of already looking at him as he was done.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Yeah, they absolutely were. But yeah, he's and that's probably
another reason why he wanted to he's. Here's the thing
I'm trying to read the mind of Carson Wentz. It's
it's you're supposed to always eat a little dirt, rub
a little robotustin on it, and if you can go,
even at fifty percent, you're supposed to go. You're supposed
(33:42):
to show you a man and you're tough and you
can handle the pain and all that, which it's an
admirable trait, I guess. But also he probably knows every
game could be his last game, because I think, sure,
I think his career if he's been with six teams
six years and he wasn't on a roster when the
season started until we we we we we we waved
(34:06):
Howell and then or do we trade Howell?
Speaker 1 (34:08):
We just waved.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
We traded him in the Philadelphia That's right.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
We traded Howell and then we we we picked up
Wins who was not on a team. I don't think
any other team, from what we've seen, is gonna you know,
the way he's performed here, I don't think anybody's going
to pick him up. He's probably played is he's probably played.
He might play again this year in spot relief for
maybe McCarthy can't go next week, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
But as far as like getting a starting job, but
I think he's still he's played well enough where he
could still be a backup somewhere in this league.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
You might be right, but I think I mean, he
wasn't a backup going into this season.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
I'm saying so, but I don't think you think he's
played well. I don't think maybe he could I I
don't know. I think he's played I don't think he'll
be with another team. But I could be wrong. I've
been wrong before.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Here's another.
Speaker 9 (34:53):
Common ten our team was humiliated last night.
Speaker 10 (34:58):
No wheel of topic, no program password, two weeks in
a row. You know, I listened to you guys for hope,
and you're letting me down today.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
There it is tend Toby. We let him down. He
came to us for hope.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
After she listens to this show for hope, for your.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Humiliating loss, and then we didn't. We let him down
with no littleby And that's her fault. She's the one
that we didn't know. She's the one that wanted to
go to the.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Game last night. OK, here we go. Here's another.
Speaker 8 (35:35):
Hey, it's Brandon from Red Wing Minnesota. I just want
to say.
Speaker 11 (35:39):
Like, because we didn't take Rogers or any of the
other guys that were on our roster, I don't think
we were going to go anywhere. This year was supposed
to be about McCarthy learning, taking reps, and just getting
some game time experience. I'm a little concerned he isn't
out there, but hopefully we get him out there next
next game.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
I tend to see what Brandon from Red Wing the same, But.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
I don't think he may have thought that we weren't
going anywhere if we didn't get a Rogers or stay
with Darnold, because it was the year to get McCarthy
that you know, he's on training wheels and then by
the end of the season take the training wheels off
and get him acclimated to the NFL. I don't believe
(36:22):
the organization thought that. I thought with the moves they
made on the interior of the offense and defensive lines
and getting an extra running back, I think I think
they thought we can still be a contender for the
NFC North, qualify for the playoffs, and make a run
with McCarthy s quarterback. Because they're high they I know
(36:46):
McCarthy taken as the fifth quarterback in that draft. If
it's almost like sometimes you feel like they're just going
they're almost grasping that straws. It's like, well, we didn't
get any of the other four guys. We got to
get somebody, so let's take McCarthy. And I think on
most rankings wasn't McCarthy probably taken where he should have been.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
All the other quarterbacks were more highly regarded, were they not?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Or not?
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Necessarily? Bo Nix was not more highly regarded, he was not.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Okay, Well than that there, I don't know if there
was a consensus, right it was it was Caleb Williams
and Jane Daniels and Drake May were considered top three.
After that, like going into the draft, Michael Pennix was
not considered to be better than JJ okay, but went ahead.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
Of them okay.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
So that being said, then you could say maybe, depending
upon who you were, what organization you were, and how
you view the quarterbacks, he could have been considered the
fourth best quarterback in the draft and we got him
in as the fifth quarterback selected. And I do believe
again I go back to koc has said it when
he said in that interview last week on Fox before
(37:49):
the game and the sit down with whoever it was,
they asked about the quarterback whisperer, and he said, I
don't really like that, but I'm proud of what this
organization does with quarterbacks. Do think he feels like why
he might not want to be labeled quarterback whisper. He
feels because he played the position at a high level.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Didn't he work under.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
McVeigh, who coordinator for the under McVeigh, so's he's worked
in a very successful offense.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Of Tom Bradley exactly.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
So I'm sure he feels like while he didn't have
the skills to play the game in the.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
NFL at a high level, he knows what.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Those skills take, or he knows what skills are needed
to play that he sees them in McCarthy. He might
see them as still rather raw, but that he could
because of his knowledge of the position and his ability
to teach, he can he can draw out the best
of McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
And I think they thought they could do that this year.
I don't think they went into this.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
Year going we're throwing this year away as strictly McCarthy
learning year.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
They're fourteen three, second best record in the NFC last year,
and then their moves were to let's get aging veteran
players on their defensive line in our offensive line.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Yeah, that did not look like a rebuild to me.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
Of well, we got macarthy is we're gonna take our
licks here for a year or two. Let's try to
rebuild against it for him. In two three years, they
were rebuilding for twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
I couldn't read more. We'll pause, come back.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
More talkbacks and more back talk coming up in the
common Man Program with Tennabee here on nothing
