Pass common Man program dot com, and Kea's Channabie.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Our number two begins as always with five, three four
time now four?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Five questions, Well, actually three, but five sounds like more
than four.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Question number one, it's time now four. It's a low
down in Dinkytown.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
The Gophers football team beat number twenty five Nebraska twenty
four or six Friday night at Huntington Banks Stadium, Darius
Taylor gaining one hundred and forty eight yards on twenty
four carries. The Gophers defense sacked Dylan Royola nine times
for a total of sixty three yards. Colin, what sticks
out to you from Minnesota's upset win over number twenty
five Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Well, here's what I'll tell you. A couple of thirteen
fourteen things. First of all on. Do you think I
was that Nebraska was distracted about the what's Rule's first name,
Matt Rule, Matt Rule rumors going to Penn State because
he when they first were brought up, he didn't emphatically
say I'm never leaving Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I don't even know what he said.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
But do you think the kids were distracted tennebe thunder
coach may leave. I've always sort of rolled my eyes,
shrugged my shoulders, and shook my head when you talk
about distractions, though in that case it would be impressionable
eighteen nineteen twenty year old kids wondering if their head
coach was about to bolt for Penn State. I think
the Gophers just I I was surprised. I have remember
(01:59):
one du said, the golfers are making a lot of
first downs. I'm really surprised. All those years ago, I
was surprised they went. I thought Nebraska would win the game.
Nebraska was averaging I think forty one points a game.
They had a really big win just the week before, and.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
I, uh.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
It would I know.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
The Golphers beat Purdue, but they gave up like two
how many yards in the ground did they give up?
Like to forty eight it was, and only had like
forty eight of their own. Was astonishing how badly they
were outplayed in that game. That nine sacks tend to
be was a think about the Golphers have been playing
college football since the late eighteen hundreds. That was the
(02:46):
Of course they weren't they didn't have the sack as
a statistic back then.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
But that's the most sacks in school history. Nine in
a game.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
They a team that was averaging if I saw that, dad, right,
forty one points a game. They scored six points. I mean,
that was just a complete and total beatdown and it was.
It was. It was a complete game by the Gophers,
And yeah, it's it was pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I wouldn't other than playing cupcakes, I haven't seen us
play a Big ten team like that where we're dominating
the line of scrimmage like we were on both sides.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Never I've never seen it. I don't ever recall it happening.
So I don't know, I don't know what it means.
You know, again, it is I know they beat pretty
with the week before, but it was they did, so
I think it was one of those smoke and mirrors
wins and and to play like they did. I mean again,
maybe Nebraska's a little overrated. I don't know, but that's
(03:41):
that's you can't I don't have any discouraged believe it
or not, I don't have any discouraging words to say
about the Golpher football. They they they they completely off
classed Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Good for them.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Going to lead number two.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
Time Now for an in depth look at the state
of the state of hockey in.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
The Wild of lost four or five.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
After falling to the Flyers to one in overtime Saturday
night in Philadelphia, Vladimir Terrasinko scored the lone goal for
a Wild team that recorded just sixteen shots on goal.
The Wild are now two three and one with a
game at Madison Square Garden tonight. Common What is going
wrong with your Minnesota Wild?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
We would turn that back on you. I'll defer to you.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I was so excited after game one of five nothing
whitewashing on pace to go eighty two and oh blah
blah blah, and it just.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I don't know. You tell me you're you're the Wild guy.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Well, I brought up the Philly game here the night
before in the nation's capital against the Capitals.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
That was awful.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
The team did not, did not give a professional performance
in that one couldn't couldn't even sniff Washington's end of
the ice. And then against Philadelphia better, But from what
your comparison comparing it to the night before, they're still
just not creating enough offensively five on five. And it's
(05:23):
now coming down to if Caprice off and Boldy don't
don't blow up for you, then you're you're in trouble.
They just they cannot get offense anymore. And even tonight,
now Marco Rossi's not going to play tonight. They're already
without Zucarello, They're already without Nico Sterm. The lineup they
are putting at the forward position tonight after Caprice Off,
Boldi and Eric Sinaka. I mean, it's it's almost like
(05:44):
an HL team. So it's, uh, you don't want to
be hitting the panic button six games in. But it's
been a rough little stretch here and I can get
out of hand in a hurry if they don't put
a stop to it tonight in New York. And the
other part of this, too is goaltending. Ball said has
looked better. Ball said has played two games. He had
to win against the Kings. Against Philadelphia. Now the goalie
(06:07):
gave up he probably should have had. He should have
let to be a rebound to get behind the net
to begin with before they kicked the back off of them.
But he gave up one goal. He's played two games,
he's played really well. He has outplayed Gustafson.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
So far.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
They still seem to be going Gustavson's gonna be our
A and ball said is going to be our B.
But to me, we're a couple of games games away
from that changing where you need to start thinking, well,
maybe we should start playing ball set a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yeah. One of the difference of yearmakes this time last year
we were the toast of the league, right we.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Had lost the game in regulation, Yet at this time
last year and now here we are. And also we
went from with fifty two to fifty three shots on
goal against Columbus to now we can't get the fuck
on net. And that was my fear when everyone was
having the five on five concerns after three three four games, like, well,
guys like they've been. They've been getting chances, they're scoring
on the power play. But now I feel like the
(07:05):
players have gotten that five on five talk into their
own head because now I feel like they're playing differently.
Where like Matt Boldy as good as he was early on,
in the last couple of games, he's a turnover machine.
He's forcing passes where they should be forced, right. I
feel like they got away with the way they were
playing previously just because they hadn't been scoring in those situations.
(07:27):
And then you start, you start trying to get outside
of your game, and then it just completely collapses. And
I think that's kind of where we're at now.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
Now.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
That can change in one game, That can change in
one night. But yeah, the lineup they're thrown out there
tonight is is quite concerning.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Question numbers.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
That being said, come watch the Wild game with me
today at Willie's on the Lake in Big Lake.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
Watch the six a PM movie.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
What's the name of the place again.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
It's Willie's on the Lake. It's Coors Light Hockey Nights
six apm. We play Hockey Tribua. You have a chance
to win sweet tickets to see the Wild against the
Jets in November in a suite.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Do we play tonight.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
We're at Madison Square Garden tonight. We got the New
York Rangers.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Any good.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I mean they're off to pretty mediocre start as well,
but they've been offensively a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
All right, very good programming predicaments.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah, as I just mentioned the Wild They're in Matt
Madison Square Garden tonight to take on the New York Rangers.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
That games at six pm.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
You can watch it on FanDuel Sports Network or listen
to it right here on the fan.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
We have a game.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Seven in the ALCS with the Toronto Blue Jays hosting
the Seattle Mariners. That game will be on Fox. And
then we have a Monday night doubleheader. The Lions host
the Buccaneers at six pm on ABC and ESPN, and
the Seahawks host the Texans at nine pm on ESPN.
Common what are you gonna do about tonight's programming predicaments?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Let me think about it just for once. No no no,
no no no no no no, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
I'll watch kids. I'm die hard. Should be an entertaining
game too, I mean it should be. I always like
to preface it by saying should we We never know?
Speaker 3 (09:18):
There are no guarantees.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
But uh wait, last week's NFL Pop ranking, I think
Tampa Bay was right number one, and Lines were number two,
So you have.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Certainly have your mirror.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Certainly have two of the better teams in the National
Football League, at least record wise and with reputation, playing tonight,
so it should be fun to watch. I'm just glad
to see the early one. That nine o'clock starts a
little late. Yeah, the six six is really nice time
to get home to a little fall clean up and
then uh watch a ball.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
No desire to watch a game seven to go to
the World Series tonight, you know, No.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I don't you know.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I think I've kind of lost my love or lust
for baseball that I once had when I was a kid.
That used to be my favorite sport. But it just
doesn't you know. Once the Fall Classic starts, we'll see
how the first few games go. It. The way the
Dodgers are playing, I mean, they just they spank the
Brewers and if.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
You'll remember, the Brewers won.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
The two teams had two series during the regular season,
Brewers were six and zero.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Did how much did the Brewers even get to.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Double digit runs in any of the four I don't
the four games combined.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
I don't think the first three. I think they had
three runs totally.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yeah, and so yes, they didn't even get to double
digit runs in four games combined. They were completely dominated
by starting pitching staff.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
That is that a spot on right now.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
So I would find it hard to believe whether it's
toront Or or Seattle that if the Dodgers continue to
play like like they have, and it really started in
postseason play is when they almost flipped the switch. They've
been just dominant. So yeah, I just I don't think.
I don't think the World Series is going to be
much of a bunch of a series either, to.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
And that's it for today's edition of five questions, Well
actually three questions, but five sounds like more than four.
We'll take a look at a few text messages from
our Brad Shawn Bryant Campan text line they all want
to see McCarthy Tennaby everybody they want him. They've had
enough of wins. They want to see McCarthy. We'll, we'll
(11:26):
take a look at we'll, we'll, we'll, I'll read a
few of those.
Speaker 3 (11:30):

Ye okay, make it. They're preparing for the next halftime show.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yes, I'm gonna meet not only gonna be Elow, but
it's also going to be Rod Stewart, all eighty year
old Rod Stewart. So yeah, tennaby the fans have spoken
here at booth or at the brat Shawn Bryncaffean text
line This one says, I suspect Chaos will play JJ
(12:59):
Thursday for this reason. Since when stunk so bad on Sunday,
It's unlikely that JJ will look worse at this point.
Half our strategies to make JJ believe he's ready and worthy.
That's insane. He's they're not gonna play. There's no way
they're gonna play McCarthy on a short week. They've already
said he's got the bad ankle. Here's what I think
(13:19):
is going on, tend Tobee. I think you're right. I
think it's that soft injury. They don't want to play
unless he is absolutely one hundred percent because they saw
did everybody else not see what you and I saw?
He was simply it was some of the worst quarterback
play I've ever seen for seven of the eight quarters
he played in. He's twenty two years old. He's got
(13:40):
a lot to learn. Now you can say, well, then
we got to get him in there and see what
we've got. Teams do people not understand that teams don't
look at it that way. I just it's actually getting
frustrating talking to people that don't understand. The team doesn't
look at it like that. They're not thinking the season's over.
They look at the landscape in the league and say,
we can beat any of these.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
They also see him at practice every day and he's
been in he's been in the organization for two years now,
like they have an idea of what he can do.
And also like I'm not saying there's no one way
to develop a quarterback, but there have been teams aka
the team that's just directed east of us, that's let
(14:22):
quarterbacks sit for two three years and they've been just
fine when they come in, Like it's not the the
what we need. The fans want to know what we got,
but the coaches know what they've got. If that makes sense,
you stop looking at from a fan perspective, look at
it from a coach perspective.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
I don't think the coach, I.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Don't Thinkos's going out got no idea what we got
with JJ, mccarthurpy, he goes out in place.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
By the way.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I saw this, bring me the News posted this base
off of Adam Schefter appeared on.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
The Pat McAfee show. Today. OK, here's what Schefter said, quote.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
My understanding thing is with Carson Wentz and JJ, the
Vikings play a short week this week, they have the
Chargers this week. I would expect that we get Carson Wentz.
On Thursday night, I was told there's a chance that
JJ McCarthy would be ready for the week after at Detroit.
He says again, I think if Carson Wentz comes back
and plays well and they win the game Thursday night,
maybe that buys JJ another week. If not, then I
(15:20):
think JJ could be back as soon as that week
at Detroit.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Exactly what we've been saying all along.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
It's one of the few things I agree with the
head coach on I didn't think Wentz was awful yesterday either.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
I mean he wasn't.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
He had some awful moments, but they were moving the
ball of will.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
Yes on that last they punted, They punted once he.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Was under siege.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
How about the time Noman's open, he's twice he scrambles
for first downs in that one drive that ended up
ended up in a figure because of the Hawkinson play.
Here's one that's as we do not want JJ on
(16:09):
the field. He's a soap opera. He's injury prone, overhyped, inconsistent.
You're gonna put anybody on the field. Put Max there,
he's the new franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
I think that's.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Well, you know what common they needed to put Brozemer
out there, so we know we got well right, Yeah,
we got to know what we got with Max Brothers.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Somebody, somebody actually said that they let me find it
for you.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
I thought after the second Wentz interception that there was
a chance Max Brosmur like I thought Carson Wentz was
one more bad driver, one more interception away from Brosmer
starting to come out the second half.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Viking fans want to see McCarthy because they want to
see what he can do, if Jay what he can do.
If JJ McCarthy starts as not ready to loses, the
fans will be calling for Max. Then if Max can't
do it, they'll want wins back in. It's a situation
that goes around and around, and no one's going to
be happy unless the quarterback wins games. Here's another Win's
missed four tds yesterday. The great sideline catch by Addison
(17:14):
would have been a TD if the throw is an awful,
bad miss on the Addison out left hand, missed, wide
open left flight, gets intentional ground instead.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
The throw to Hawkins, who was a miss.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
The awful, too awful, imts it. That's McCarthy. We're begging
for him to get Benched.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
I think there's people that are begging for what's to
get Bench. He had bad moments yesterday, There's no doubt
about that.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
I don't waned the phrase, got to see what we've
got in that kid. We might not know anything for
a couple of years. JJ has much much less experience
than any of those quarterbacks in his class.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yep in round one. Here's another.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
The push for the kid is because five of the
six quarterbacks that he was drafted with are playing and improving.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Here's one.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
I like this one.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Common was right all along.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
If we signed Rogers, we would be undefeated, and young
JJ would be healthy and learning more and more every day.
If we had Sam Darnold, if we had Danny Dimees
or Aaron Rodgers, we would be better than three and three.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
I do believe that.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
I don't think we'd be under I'm not saying we'd
be undefeated, but any of those got yesterday, we would
have won yesterday. I think we would probably be feign
to it worst, maybe better.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
I don't probably winning. Yeah, the Atlanta Pittsburgh games could
have been winnable either way.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Why are we sitting here pretending Wentz was anything but awful.
Yesterday he was horrific any sort of confidence in the
QB position.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Yesterday we win.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Wentz cost us three four tds in the red zone
and stop numerous drives, intentional grounding backwards out of bounce
pass taking, dumb the sacks. I'm not entirely sure of
my commands, consider I think Wentz gives us a better
shot to win than JJ McCarthy does.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Did you see J.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
J McCarthy in the three of this A seven of
the eight quarters he played.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
I was just say Wentz, Like I've mentioned now four times,
Wentz had bad moments. Yesterday he definitely had some awful plays.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
He was part of the reason they were still in
the game.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Other than one quarter of JJ McCarthy. We were is
three and out City. It was three and out, three out,
three and out. So JJ didn't even have opportunities to
even have even worse throws because he wasn't on the
field enough.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
That's correct.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
We didn't have any offensive planes. We weren't moving the chains.
Wentz is moving the chains. They're making a much mistakes
he did yesterday.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Yes everyone said start wins because he is a vet
with experienced Boy, did he make a bunch of rookie
mistakes unacceptable. He should be pulled after the second interception.
Brogsman should have been put in so we could see
what we have.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
I always love that one.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Our defense was beat by a great qb our offense
beat themselves. I think the defense had as much to
do with if you want to throw anybody out there,
the Rogers guy got burned twice badly, and.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
You know, is it all at him? Well, you know,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Is the call to have him go one on one
over there on that side, I don't know. Maybe they
trust him that much. He was signed with a lot
of them, with a lot of fanfare, played for the
Eagles last year. There's a reason Wentz was available when
(20:38):
he was.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
He But I still think whence.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I mean, we're at the point where as we've said,
if I think what Schefter said is probably accurate, Whentz
starts this week if they lose in McCarthy undition form, Yeah,
and then if McCarthy is one, he will start against Detroit,
And that's the way it probably should go down.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
We'll take a break, come but more here on the
Common Man program.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
On the Fans.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Vikings lose at home yesterday to the defending world champion
Philadelphia Eagles the hated Philadelphia Eagles Final twenty eight to
twenty two. Vikings go one for six in the red zone.
I guess if you're looking for bright spots. The record kid,
he never misses. The only time he missed was the
when he hit the hit one of those cables, those
camera tables. Who we think it did? Anyways, I'm convinced
(21:56):
it did. I don't think there's any chance. And he
also kicked day.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Was that a franchise record fifty nine yarder?
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Or do I have that wrong? Maybe it was in
the green Bay game. I think the green Bay game
at a fifty nine yard franchise.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Field goal ahead. Yesterday it was a fifty nine one, right,
But I.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Mean I think green Bay had a fifty What I'm
asking is was the fifty nine yard or franchise record
for the Vikings. I don't think it was. I think
I got confused with the maybe it was.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I don't know. I think Green Bay did have a.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Franchise record fifty nine yarder and their win yesterday against
the Cards, but.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
I could be wrong. Mark Craig rights.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
NFL for the fish rap factor on the West Side
and every Monday he has five extra points and then
he picks up five things that stick out to him
as far as the game goes, and number one it
is it's it's obvious that going into the game, Takuan
(22:55):
Markle is considered the best running back and pro football. However,
two thousand yards last year was that he's the raining
NFC All off it'sive Player of the Year.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
He's not had a good start to the season.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Whether it's he's got nothing left, whether it's teams are
really focusing on stopping Saquon Barkley this year, whether they're
not opening as many holes.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Maybe it's Magic Dolay, caller, a play caller.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Whatever the case may be, Barkley has not had the
kind of season to this point as he did last year. Yesterday,
Craig points out that Barkley gained only twenty yards on
his final thirteen carries.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
And forty four overall, with an average of two point
zero per yards.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
You would think if you hold him to those kinds
of numbers, you have a pretty good chance to win
the ball game. However, as Mark points out, and we
talked about it as well, Hertz posted a perfect passer
rating of one fifty eight point three. That's perfect. That
means he played the position to perfection. That's the first
(23:58):
time Jalen Hurts has done that in his career.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
He threw five balls twenty more or more yards.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Down field, completing all five for two hundred and fifteen
yards and three touchdowns. Let me say this to the
Wentz haters. Wentz wasn't on the field to defend those passes.
He wasn't on the field if you have a professional
secondary or a pass rush that is able to I mean,
do you think we could prevent one of those? Just
(24:28):
one of them, particularly that last one when it was
third and nine. Game is still on the line, Buck
forty five to go, we come up with a stop there,
They've got to give us the ball. There's no tush
push on fourth and nine. They've got to give us
the ball back and then we have an opportunity. Now,
Wentz may have thrown a pick, he may have got
an intentional grounding. He may have thrown it out of
the reach of a wide receiver, tight end and the ends.
(24:49):
So we had lost the game anyway, But the defense
didn't do the Vikings any favors in any way, shape
or form yesterday when it came to defending.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
On like, every time we got close and we got
within a score, it seemed like our defense would let
us sound exactly.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Here's a point number two from Craig O'Connell. Got greedy
on the first red zone trip.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Here's what he writes.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
O'Connell called sixteen passes and twelve runs on first down.
That's not a bad balance, considering he doesn't have a
strong running game and the Eagle strength is their defensive tackles.
One call he'd like to have back is the first
of twenty one snaps the team ran, going one for
six in the red zone.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Ko had thrown.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
On back to back first downs and had just run
for a first down to the Eagles nineteen. He got impatient,
called for a pass into the end zone, went through
high wild and incomplete. Then he skipped a swing pass
off the turf and watch as Blake.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Brandell. Is it Brandell or Brandel?
Speaker 5 (25:46):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Do we know the pronunciation?
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Ganlin Gronlin? Yeah, third and ten snap sailed twenty two
yards the wrong way. O'Connell's commitment to the run in
the second half eight runs for thirty three yards and
a first down, eight passes for forty two yards and
two first downs was a key component in the Vikings
moving the ball better and scoring their only red zone
touchdown on a direct snap to Jordan Mason. So you know,
(26:12):
and he doesn't have much of a running game. I mean,
Aaron Jones is out right, he missed another game.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (26:18):
It sounds like his injury window I think opens up
this week. Okay, well, he's got like that window to
come back.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
And is it Jordan Mason? Is that his first Yes,
he's a nice back. I like him, but he's not elite.
He's a good running I.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Got criticized for saying that before the season. By the way,
he does a nice running back, but he is a
nice running back. Team don't change the way the game
plan based off of him.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Yes, I think you're I think you're absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
So what drive was it too? Where they were shockingly
in the red zone? Were they like the six yard line?
They had like a second one and they threw the
ball on three consecutive attempts. Yes, and one of them
was the old Hey, we know we're going to go
for it on fourth down, so we can still throw
for it and they're down with the problem is that
(27:06):
thinking is then well, if you get a holding penalty,
now you've now got pushed back and you don't have
those two plays anymore to work with.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
So they didn't even run the ball and either any
of those opportunities.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
What did you make of.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Can you explain to me what what Beeflow was trying
to do on the toush push. Did he have like
a defensive lineman line on horizontal? Horizontal?
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Horizontal? Did it work? I don't think it did.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Did it well?
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Philadelphia got the first down, but it seems like they
didn't get as much of a push on the tush
push that maybe they're accustomed to. Yeah, and apparently that
wasn't the first time that had been done before. I
think they said they kind of stole it from Kansas City,
had done.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
I think Kansas City tried it was that in the
big game. They tried that.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
I think, well, they played them earlier this year too.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Earlier this year that that they tried that.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
But also on that on that touch push, guess what
the left guard started before the ball was snapped again
because they cheat on all of them.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yeah, I'm in pace, got benched. Remember how much we
loved him undrafted free a in the first year he
was so good he.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
Is this his third year, This is probably right.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
I think it is his first two years he's pretty good.
He has he hasn't.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Well. He was always just a run stopper. That was
his strength and that has not been a strength for
him this year. So if your strength has to stop
the run and your team is not stopping the run,
once you get healthy, year expendable. And Eric Wilson he's
had some moments this year, so he deserves more playing time.
I don't I agree with the coaches staff on that.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
One.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Mark in red Wing.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Courtesy of the bratch On Bryant campin dext Line says
it was a sixty one one yard field goal for
Green based franchise record That was sixty one. That was
another game the Cards, it's anybody's game, right to the
right to the very very end. And I like the
(29:16):
Jordan Love kid. I think he's really good. I think
he's even going to get better and better.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
I know.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
The franchise got criticized the floor and the general manager
for selecting him and not getting Aaron Rodgers a wide receiver.
But man, that's kind of the way they operate there.
They had they they had farm, and they let Rogers
sit for a while. Then Rogers came in. Farv left,
Farve left, and then Rogers came in and they did
the same thing. Rogers you mentioned earlier.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
In the show.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Love sat for a few years and now he's I
don't know, what do you think him? I like him
a lot.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
I think he's calling. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
I thought yesterday was the Micah Parsons game. Right hit
three sacks. Two of them were you know, ending drives.
The one ended, the last basically ended the final drive
of the game. They had another one where because the
Cardinals had a little bit of Viking Steamer, they were
moving the ball at will up and down the field,
and then especially in the second half, they would stall
(30:15):
once they got to the red zone and a lot
of that was Micah Parsons would make a play that
gave him negative yardage and they could overcome it. And
Micah in that game, there were moments where Arizona and
They've got a good right tackle and they thought, well,
we're gonna go one on a moment with Parsons, and
it didn't worked. If you can't you can't block them
one on one, so you're always leaving and running back
to the chip, or you got to leave a tight
(30:35):
end and that limits That's that's an instance where one
defensive player makes his entire defense looks good because they
all have easier responsibilities based on Micah taking another guy on.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yeah, they they did try to go one on one
and that uh and apparently they're.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
That linement for the Cardinals is really good.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
But Parsons, like you said, it was the sacks all
came on on on the most import big place, big plays,
big plays, turnovers side. It was he's gonna be when
do we play Green Bay?
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Oh, I know, we play them last game of the year.
We were at Lambeau November twenty third, so five games
from now.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Schedule stuff.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Well, you know what, it's here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
It seems like it's tough for everybody pull up Detroit schedule.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
Not the New England Patrios schedules and tough.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Pull up Detroit schedule.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Well, I mean, you know, the Vikings and Lines have
very comparable schedule by schedule, Chicago schedule. Well, yeah, the
NFC North, Yes.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
I think I think a lot of teams have tough.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
I don't have a lot of hope for winning an
NFC North title at this moment. And it's so when
you're looking at wild card stuff. Yeah, the Lions got
Tampa Bay tonight. They then they get a buy a
week host the Vikings at Washington, at Philadelphia, host New York,
host Green Bay, host Dallas at the Rams, host Pittsburgh
(32:09):
at the Vikings, and then at Chicago to end the season.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Tennebe, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you something you can
use the next time. How How was the ten of
Fitzgerald on Thursday and Friday?
Speaker 3 (32:22):
How to go? How are they sale?
Speaker 5 (32:24):
It's fine? Yeah, lots of guests, lots of life voats.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Lots of life votes.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Did you play programming play password for Friday?
Speaker 3 (32:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
I don't know what to make of the uh I
guess you and I are kind of in the are
in the minority with uh or me?
Speaker 3 (32:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
I still think the Vikings are very much in the
NFC North very much.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Well, I mean there's still time, yes, so, I mean, obviously,
if you're beating your fellow NFC North teams, you know,
two weeks from now that wanted Detroit, that's gonna be
a big one. See if JJ McCarthy is up to
snuff at that point, Detroit.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Has no secondary Green Bays beatable. The Bears seem to
be the best. Were they ozer in too?
Speaker 3 (33:29):
At one point?
Speaker 5 (33:30):
I think that's correct in.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
They're four and two, right, Yes, that might be the
best team in the division. You're guy, Ben Johnson.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Yeah, they lost, you know, given their ower and two
against the division, I'm not ready to go that there.
You saw how badly the Lions destroyed them. Yeah, but
they're four in a row versus Dallas at Vegas at
Washington than versus the Saints, maybe they're nothing. Saints and
Raiders are subpar. Yeah, Commanders. Even when Jayden Daniels has
been healthy, now he's hurt again.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
He got hurt. They've just been a little weird.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
And Dallas's elite offensively can't stop anyone defensively. Yeah, but
better to win those games. And I get from a
bear standpoint, your concern has always been the offense. They've
put up a minimum twenty five points in all four
of those games.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Common Wentz was picked up off the scrap heap days
before the season started. How we ever got that far
without a bible second string quarterback having Darnald, Mullins and
Jones last season is poor coaching and management. Wentz had
a lot of bad plays, but I can't see where
this is all on him. Hopkins, guy, it's not all
(34:53):
on wins. It isn't and you know it's certainly they
could do better. I do think to this point they
pushed all their chips into the J. J. McCarthy corner.
They sam Darnald had a year, and I do you
(35:17):
think it was the money that they thought. My guess
is was more money than anything they I don't think
they would have thought Darnald just had a flash in
the Pans season. You know that's what they thought with
Case Keenum, if you'll remember Case Keenum had the great
year for us.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Got to say Anfcy championship.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Game, blah blah blah, and then we decided not to
go with Keenum. The following year went out and got Cousins.
I don't think Zimmer was real happy with that. I
don't think that he was like a fan of keenum
Is or anything. I just think he didn't like spending
all that money at the quarterback position. I think that's
what really bothered him, if I if that's just my guess,
(35:56):
Donald was he was spectacular last season. Now I know
he had the the awful showing against Detroit. I I
don't think what happened against the Rams was. I think
that was more the interior of the offensive line, and
I think the Vikings admitted that by getting new players
in the middle of the line. But we decided we
didn't want to pay him that kind of money because
we went and drafted McCarthy. I think I think Danny
(36:20):
Jones would have stayed here if we would have said,
we're going to give you an opportunity to whin the
you know, and maybe they didn't know what they had
on because he was in practice.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
He never took the field last year for the Biking.
He wasn't even on the roster until the playoff game.
And the reason they did that is so that they
could come They're going to get a good compensatory pick
for me now because well he's playing okay.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
And then Aaron Rodgers came for a visit and I
gave I think they gave him the courtesy, you know,
a visit, you know, because would he come for a
well one or the other. I mean, he may have
come for a visit.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
I don't remember him coming for a visit.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, well he may have.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
We just don't know. I mean it's we I don't
think anybody's tracking his plane. But he certainly he had
a conversation with with Rogers and it never came out.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
So they pushed all of their They placed all.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Their eggs into that basket with McCarthy, and then they
thought Sam Howe would be a competent backup quarterback. They
watched Howell play and thought, well, this isn't going to work.
And so that's when they went and got Wentz off
the scrap heap. Wentz wasn't on a roster, they didn't
trade for him. They signed him. And then we saw
McCarthy have the great fourth quarter after three poor quarters
(37:36):
against the Bears. He was awful against the Falcons. That's
when Wentz has started ever since, and they say the
high ankle sprained and he hasn't been And so yeah,
you can you could say that they've sort of mismanaged
the quarterback position. But in their defense, when you do
(37:56):
draft a guy, when you move up in draft tenth overall,
he's kind of your guy. So I was sort of
surprised they didn't. I guess it must have been one
hundred million dollars they have to spend on Darnald. I
don't know why they wouldn't resign Darnald. I still don't
understand that.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
And Donald, I think probably was because then you shut
yourself out from JJ McCarthy on that rookie contract of whatever.
If he can reach his potential on a rookie contract,
now you can help out the rest of the team.
My guess is. But to your point, like they clearly
weren't all in on JJ McCarthy at least for twenty
(38:32):
twenty five, because they did flare with Daniel Jones, they
did play with Aaron Rodgers, they made an offer to
Sam Darnold, and Donald just opted to go another out.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
And I don't blame him for that.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Remember, there were even rumors like Kirk Cousins, there were
rumors coming here. So the Vikings have shown while they
committed to JJ McCarthy, they also had some doubts, at
least for this season. That doesn't mean they have long
term doubts for him. And I do think probably what
kept him from Darnold is let's take a shot on
(39:04):
a guy on a rookie rookie contract, because that's one
of the best ways you could other than having an
Alito elite quarterback. That's that's the best blueprint for trying
to win a big game.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Yeah, that would be the blueprint. Regarding last year's preposterous
statement term is it possible, charge a statement wasn't so
much preposterous but just one year off prophetic. But but
it was preposterous because it doesn't matter if he's That
(39:37):
would be like saying Brady's done.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Yeah, Well, yeah, Charge was right. Seven years later Brady
was done.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Well, these guys are be cooked at some point, yes.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
But when when you basically say someone's they're they're not
even the best quarterback on the roster. When you say
a running back, because he mentioned the names of running
backs that nobody's ever heard of, that he would.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Have rather had.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
And then saque wins the NFC Offensive Player of the
Year award or NFL Offensive Player whatever was Sorry, that's.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
The other running backs you mentioned. Didn't do anything.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
No, his PST is what it is.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Well, Paus, come back another hour to go here on
the common Land program on the Fan
