Bonus Box. Bonus box. Box that are a bonus. You

Speaker 3 (00:35):
I'm common, He's ten to b our Number two begins
with five three four.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Time now four five questions? Well, actually three, but five
seconds more than four three?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Question number one, it's time now four.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Down ookie seconds?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Good? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
The Gophers improved it two and one in the Big Ten,
four and two overall with their twenty seven twenty comeback
victory over Purdue Saturday at Huntington Banks Stadium in Minnesota.
Trailed by seven in the fourth quarter when Drake Lindsay
led a seventy yard drive, which culminated in a Jamison
Gears touchdown reception that tied the game. Then, on the
very next play, Koy Parritch intercepted a pass returned it

(01:23):
for a twenty seven yard touchdown pick six common. What's
six out to you from the Gophers win over the
boiler Makers?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Other, I guess sother, I guess. The only thing to
say is it better to win than lose. That Perdue
might be one of the worst FBS schools ever assembled.
And I did I see this right? Were we We
had literally no run? We ran for thirty yards. They
ran for like over two hundred, one hundred, one hundred.
How did we even win the game? I did not

(01:52):
see much of it. I was I was about to
do one of the best comedy shows in the history
of Spicer. Well it's the only comedy show in the
history of Spicer. But we meet sass E and Lermandela
Guy were in Spicer and so the show started at
seven thirty. So I watched some of the golfer game
but couldn't see at all. But you know, and again,

(02:13):
you know, like I say, they pulled the fat out
of the fire. But you know, if you remember Tennebee
after the lost to Ohio State, let's face it, it's
no it's no shame to lose to Ohio State. They
got a payroll, that's I think. I think they would
be over the cap if they were in the National
Football League. I think that's how much their payroll was.
And that's a really really good football team. That's an

(02:35):
offensive line that's three hundred pounds across every guy. I
bet most of them end up at playing in the NFL.
And the Gophers got smoked, and the coach after the
game said, we got you know, I know we lost,
but we've got a really good football team. They did
not look like a really good football team against proved
Now they won, and so it's you know, you can say, well,
you know, but if they continue to play like that,
they won't beat some of the other Big ten teams,

(02:56):
even the ones that you think they you know, should
be even with your I was your your your wiscon
instance is I don't even know who else is on
their schedule. They got the Michigan States as is and
some of the others. But but I, like lindsay, I
think they got a kid that's a that's a good quarterback.
But they're still a long way from It's like I
said all along, and I have nothing against Fleck, and

(03:16):
I'll do the old who are you going to get
that's better? Seriously, because I don't I just don't think
Minnesota will ever be that. I've started to throw a
wet blank at Wednesday on it on a man negative.
But I just don't think. I just think this is here.
It's we're never going to be a helmet school and
that's okay. So but they need to play a little
better than they did. But as I said at the
beginning of the question, better to win than it is

(03:37):
to lose.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Question number two.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Time now for an in depth look at the state
of the state of hockey.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I think this is the one you're talking about. Came
back to Earth a jee huh.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
The Wild recorded a franchise record fifty two shots on goal.
They were four for eight on the power play. Curl
capries Off and Matt bold To each tally three points.
Zee Boulliam scored his first Ngel goal, and yet the
Wild loss of the Columbus Blue Jackets seven to four
Saturday night at Grand Casino Arena dropped the record at
one in one common what went wrong against Columbus?

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Did they play with an empty net the entire games?
That must have been what happened? Right? They just said
we're gonna play with six attackers, We're going to try
a strategy that's never been done in the history of
the National Hockey League. We're going to skate six the
entire game. What happened to Gus Buss?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
He was brilliant in game one, right, he had a shutout. YEP.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
I would say, you know, obviously, if you're giving up
seven goals, that's not a great performance.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
It's not all on humanmus no, it never is.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
There was definitely some issues in front of him. A
guy like brock Faber, who we've been known to trust
and is typically consistent. Uh, he made a couple gaffs
early in that game, and him and you know, it
was Jonas Rodin's first game back, and that pairing gave
up a couple of goals early on in that game.

(05:10):
They were down to nothing early when they when they
tied at to two in the second period, and at
that point they had been pushing and pushing. I thought,
this is the part of the game they're just gonna
steam roll Columbus because they were really were out playing
them and they just kind of have little mental apses
here or there at the beginning of every period they
were giving up goals. So I think it's just one

(05:30):
of those, you know, like one of your one of
your old emails, they would just crumple up and throw
in the garbage. Yeah, there's obviously some things. They are
not a perfect team. They have some flaws, and they
if Capriceo off and Bold they don't score. Was show
this point they have at a pretty good pace. But
if those two aren't scoring, then offensively, I think they

(05:50):
still might have some struggles, especially with Zucarello out with injury.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Some of the defensive stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Mistakes are being made by guys who have equity in
this league, so I'm not as concerned with in that regard.
So the Wild now have to take on the La
Kings tonight.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
So I don't know if there's really an apology, but
you know, I just want to space. I think it
was on Wednesday you said, wow, kind of a we're
on the edge of a playoff team, you know, as
we're getting ready for the opening end of Thursday. Then
Thursday we went five nothing. We played almost a perfect
hockey game. I go after you say, you know, I
used to think you were the foremost hockey expert. You

(06:36):
steered me wrong. Well, now I got to back up,
and maybe you're right, because they were brilliant and they.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Really weren't brilliant.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
I know, the score looks like it's five nothing, that
looks like they were brilliant, But I would say the
goaltending was brilliant.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
But even in that.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Game, they got out shot, they got out chanced by
Saint Louis. It was one of those where the wilder
opportunistic on their opportunities and their goalie was stopping the other.
And that kind of switched a little bit against Columbus
where we weren't as opportunistic as we pretty well, and
we still scored four goals and the power plays scored
all of them. The power play has been really, really good,

(07:14):
but they still have some depth issues five on five.
I mean, that second line has basically been non existent
here and they're already making changes tonight. Felino is going
to move to the third line, Johansen up to the
second line. The Russian kid Eurob's going to make his
NHL debut tonight, so he's in the lineup as fourth
line center.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
But you know, I.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Know everyone's getting frustrated with Felino on the second line,
and then now Joehanson's gonna be on the second line.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Why aren't the young kids getting more of a shot.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I think what people need to understand is the depths
on this team from a forward standpoint is just not
that good.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yet.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
We knew that before the season started, and then when
you combound that with Matt Zucarello's out of the lineup
and Nico Sturm's out of the lineup, I think it's
hard to think that these young guys are just gonna
come in right day one in twenty twenty five and
just have immediate impact.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
So how many points did did Capriceoff have? Is it
three in this game?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Two?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Is that three? And three?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
They both him and Boldly have six points right now
through two games. So I think they're like fifth and
six in the league right now.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
So they're on pace. Caprice Offs on pace they.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Have over two forty think about forty six? Is that
the mass?

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah? So yeah, Well, you know, it's funny when it rains,
it poors, you shut out that you don't give up
any goals game one, you give up seven the next game.
Maybe we'll split the difference this time and give up
three or four.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Weird things happen early this season.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Question number three, Programming predicaments.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, lots going on to night. You got the MLB playoffs.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
They continue as the Blue Jays host the Mariners at
four o'clock on Fox, and FS one million hosts c
LA Dodgers at seven pm on TBS The Wild. As
we just mentioned, they faced the LA Kings at Grand
Casino Arena at seven pm. You can watch it on
FanDuel Sports Network or you can listen to it right
here on the fan. The Wolves host something called Guang

(09:14):
Zhao Lun Lions tonight at seven pm at Target Center.
You can hear that on the Wolves channel in the
iHeartRadio app. And then we have two NFL football games
Monday night games. You got Falcons hosting the Bills at
six fifteen pm. That's on ESPN, and the Bears are
at Washington at seven fifteen pm on ABC. Colmin, what
are you gonna do about tonight's programming predicament?

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Go with Brockford file too late? I might watch games tonight.
That's actually a programming predictament. Get it seems like everybody's playing.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
I watch them Bears Bears Washington.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, I watch some Bears Washington just because it's kind
of sing North. I have zero interest in Seattle versus
Toronto in the playoffs. Zero zero. I don't know why.
I just don't care. I am interested in Brewers versus Dodgers.
I like the idea that it's the big bad Dodgers

(10:15):
the biggest payroll in Major League Baseball. If it's not
the biggest, it's second, it's you know, it's there. It's
either the Dodgers at the Yankees defending World Series champions,
They're stacked top to bottom and like they have it's
like they have an all star team. Then you have
the mid middle million Brewers, who are small market or
mid market, whatever you want to call it. They made

(10:38):
a couple of mid season acquisitions that h that helped teams.
A pitcher and a hitter, and they're both instrumental in
this in the in the in the that second round
of the playoffs, matter of fact, in the in the
game clincher. I think the pitcher, I don't know, Muriokowski
or something. He he pitched like four innings of of

(10:58):
shutout ball. The other kiper is named Vaughn somebody else.
They got everyday player they got hit a home run
at me. They find players, they must have a decent
farm system. They can beat you. With a long ball,
or they can just play small ball. It'll be a
lot of fun. I think obviously they're the underdog and
and that's the team. And I saw that early. That's

(11:20):
why I bet Rosen. Was it how much of money
that I bet Rosen was at twelve bucks?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
I bet Rosen twelve dollars months ago that the Brewers
would would make it to the NLCS. And he took
that bet because he doesn't understand baseball. He doesn't follow
sports at all. If he ever did, I always love
that boy. He doesn't have the insight that I do.
So we'll see what happens. Let's let's take a break,
and that's it for today's edition of five questions, Well

(11:49):
actually three questions, but five sounds like more than Kennedy's
got that keyword For the National Cat Contest.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
But what are that Gopher game was playing and out?
It almost seemed like Purdue wod schedule Minnesota for their
homecoming rather than Gophers against Purdue for homecoming. Uh Chipskoggin's
Esteemed Commons Fish Rep Factory west Side. We were close
personal friends. We text and talked more than most people know.
We're both from Woodbury. Chip wrote about the game in

(12:57):
his column. He writes, the Gophers won despite being out
rushed two hundred and fifty three to thirty by one
of the worst rushing offenses in major college football. That
seems almost impossible, But it happened. That does seem almost impossible.
Ten me, if I told you forget who the teams were.

(13:18):
If I said tennant, two college football teams met on
a gridiron. One of them rushed for two hundred and
fifty three yards, the other for thirty. Who won the game,
you would.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Say, I would say the other team won nothing.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yes, that's what you would think. It is that they
just steamrolled. They did not the Gophers. Here's here's what else,
chip rights. Gopher's offensive line had a rough outing, the
defense missed too many tackles. Again. Drake Lindsay completed only
forty seven percent of his passes, but the Gophers hung
around until the boiler Makers predictably self imploded, and then

(13:50):
Lindsay and Paris made winning plays to allow the Gophers
to celebrate. Lindsay led, I remember how many yards it was.
You stated it in your five to three.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Four seven yard drive.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, and then Perris had the pick six. And that
was really the difference in the game. And turnovers. That's
where it says turnovers. Purdue had four big plays and turnovers. Yeah,
the Gophers had one. The Boiler Bakers threw an interception
at the goal line on a trick play. The receivers
dropped a handful of easy catches they kept alive, the

(14:20):
Gophers tying touchdown driving the fourth quarter with not one
but two face mass penalties on plays that should have
been sacks, including one on third down. They kicked the
field go from the three yard line. Those gifts opened
the door and the Gophers walked through it. Big Picture
and his coaching staff have issues to solve. They shuffled
the offensive line for the Ohio State game, but that

(14:40):
unit's not winning the battle of the trenches, Darius Taylor
finishing with thirty two yards on fourteen carries. So again
the coach stating, we have a really good football teim.
And I know why he said. We all know Fleck.
He's a motivator, he's a cheerleader, he's a promoter of
his programs. He's he's Ringling Brothers Barnam and Bailey Service.

(15:01):
I mean, yeah, he's and he's good at it at
promoting his program. You know what I did say, you know,
you know, I said, you know, this program would never
be Helmet School. It's never going to happen here, and
it never has except you know what, sixty seven we
went to the Rose Bowl, and then before then, I

(15:22):
think it was we won three national championships back in
the thirties with Bronco Negersky. But it can happen in
places it never happened before. Look at Indiana. Yeah, Indiana
last year I think got off to like I were,
they tend to know. At one time they had a
gaudy undefeated record. Then they finally played I don't remember
who it was. They played a couple of quality clubs
and they lost. And again I think one of them

(15:43):
got beat Rither. You know, my memory is not great,
but it feels like I remember they lost handily to
a pretty good football team. So then he said, wow,
there you go. If you have an easy schedule in
the Big Ten, you can, you can. But then they
beat Oregon or at at Oregon, at Eugene, and Oregon's

(16:04):
a really good football team, like number three in the nation. Yeah,
and now Indiana has the third spot. Siingnetti, I can't,
I don't. I can't pronounce the coach's name. He's a
football coach, kind of a guy, right, It's always got
that serious, stern look. You know, he's he's another most
I think most football coaches. They eat, drink, sleep, breed,
the whole thing. But that team's done it. In Indiana, as

(16:25):
we all know, was a basketball school. They've never been
a football school. I think it was sixty seven when
I think it was, the Gophers in Indiana shared the
Big Ten title and then one of them got to
I think the Golphers got to go to the bowl games.
They'd been to one and I don't know how it worked,
but so it can happen. Matt and I watched a
lot of that game, and you know, I was up

(16:46):
in Spicer in the hotel room. Deuce was back at home.
We watched Nebraska win their game against Maryland. And Nebraska's
there now in the top twenty five.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
So that's what we got this week.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, my two boys schools, one one in the nation,
the other one's twenty five. I think there's probably more
than twenty four spots that separate those two clubs, to
be honest with you, because I just think Ohio State
and maybe it'll change. I mean, Illinois did score sixteen points,
he had three figures in a tuddy and going into
that game, Ohio State they'd only given up twenty five
points in five games. That's just that's almost like it

(17:17):
seems like a pro football team. I'm not gonna I'm
not gonna pull a Rosie and say, you know, I
think Ohio State could be half the teams in the NFL,
because they couldn't. But that's that's that's a that's a
really good football team. Obvious, they're a great football team.
The sad thing about so and we saw what happened
in Penn State. The Franklin guy got fired and he'd

(17:42):
turned that program around. His problems. He couldn't beat top
ten teams. I think his record against top ten opponents
was four in twenty one. And then they just lost
to Northwestern Saturday the week before. Who did they lose to?
Was it? Who did they lost to? Another mediocre club?
They lost back to you say, La Ucla? The jabbronis

(18:03):
from Ucla hadn't won a game all year. And Penn
State lost, and then Penn State lost. And the reason
Franklin is out because you know what I've been able
to gather from talking to people and reading things is
he was really adamant and vocal about, well, we don't
have what Ohio State, Michigan do. Give me that and
guess what I'll do. And they finally did they d it?

(18:24):
Did I read this right? They had an assistant coach
making three million dollars a year, their defensive coach I
think about three millions for defensive coordinator. And they went
out and they they I think they had plenty of
nil money and they got players and they and then
they they go from three and oho to zero to
three and he's out now from it was a huge
buyout too. It was a large amount of money. But

(18:46):
here's the thing. Penn State's a very attractive job, right
and my guess is Franklin will get hired whenever he
wants to play. I don't know if he I don't
know when when he'll be ready to coach again, probably
not till next year. But he'll get hired by somebody
because he did rebuild that program. He did a good job,
but he asked for the moon, he got it and
then it was just awful. So but here's the sad

(19:08):
thing I told Douce this. Apparently the A D for
Penn State was the A D at Temple when he
hired Matt Rule, the the coach for the Nebraska. So
there's already it's the rumblings. You know, my people are
starting to speculate. They're to say, I'm really happy at Nebrasky.

(19:31):
Of course, until you get the until you get the
job offer, you're happy where you're at. And you know, Tennab,
I know we all you preach for loyalty from the kids,
you know when they go to the transfer portal and
all this. But coaches play a different game, right, especially
like in NCAA, Bascal, They're constantly moving around, right.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
And you know what, Here's what Rule said the day
during his weekly available He said, this place is elite.
And I want to be a great father, and i
want to be a great football coach college football coach,
and so I'm going to talk a lot about so
I'm not going to talk a lot about job openings
when they come.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
He later says, I absolutely love.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
It here, and I just want us to continue to
take the steps and needed for us to turn this
thing into a beast and have players all across the
country want to come here with the best facilities we have,
elite fans.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I'm just looking at the future. But again, I love
that place.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Talking about Penn State, I love Pat, I love James Franklin,
and I'm sad that it came to an end.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
I wish him the absolute best, but I'm really happy here.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
You and maybe he really feels that way, you know.
And look, I've been to Lincoln. I don't know what
Deuce was thinking going to Lincoln, but he did. I
could not live in Lincoln. It's like the wind is
always blowing twenty to thirty miles an hour. It's really
hot in the summer. There's not a heck of a lot.
It's the football team is basically it right, which is

(20:51):
all good and happy. It was a national power for
many years. They would under Devaney and then Osborne. I
think they've won three Nash Natties, maybe more, maybe five, remember,
but they've won Natty's back in the day. So it
is a school that at one time was a helmet school.
And maybe rule is really would like to to to,

(21:12):
you know, get that school back to the thrilling days
of yesteryear. But it would be hard for me to
blame a guy for all of a sudden Penn stayed
Happy Valley. Well, if all of a sudden they come
knocking it and they're gonna have more money, and they're
gonna have you know, you can look at this, and
you can look at that, and you can look at this,
and they can just I wouldn't blame him if he left,

(21:34):
but it would be cool if he just said nope,
what he what he said in that statement you read,
if he really means it. But yes, you're right, Nebraska
comes to town and takes on them Minnesota. That's a
Friday night game. It's the Gophers. It's their homecoming, right
or was the pre game homecoming?

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I don't know. I thought the pre game was homecoming.
I don't, I don't. I'm on mixed Oh. When someone says, up,
Matt Rule play at Penn State, I did not realize.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Well, pause, we'll come back.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
We got plenty to get to. It's been a very
fast paced, action packed and it's always controversial comment band
program and that won't stop other side of the break
right here on the fan, what tal.

Speaker 1 (22:29):

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Tennebe texted me earlier today and said, I got some
NFL highlights. If you want to do an NFL round up,
maybe we'll do that next hour. Nice, it's great to
kill time. Makes us sound more like a sports sports answer.
Your whole life just sports. I could do my announcer
voice too if you want me to, but we we

(23:06):
will do that. Also got a couple of other odds, Well,
I guess we could. We could do some NFL stuff
right now, and saying that. Kevin O'Connell had his weekly
news conference. You know, they usually do it the day
after the game. They didn't play this weekend, obviously, but
he still did one at twelve thirty's actually started a
little early, and he was asked, I think, second question,

(23:27):
who's going to start? They're going to be Wentz, They're
gonna be McCarthy. And he even the way he answered it,
he knew. He was like it was almost like he
knew the question was coming, probably rehearsed for it, and
then he just kind of blabbered. He really did. It
was just he didn't, well, you know, both got to play.

(23:48):
Gotta have them both ready and let me get some
work in and do this. And then instead of just
saying it's gonna be Wentz or it's gonna be McCarthy,
he said, you know, we still and then he remember
when he said something, the effect of my public answer
in my private answer are different, you know, playing that game,
right Like, if they even know it's going to be
McCarthy right now, well, they don't want to say it

(24:08):
this early in the going because then they're they're thinking that,
uh yeah, Philadelphia will start preparing for McCarthy, which is
you know, if you're preparing for him to say, let's
just let's just rush him really hard every every pass
play because he just he he's, he's, he freezes, he's
dear the headlights back there. I think we both get
the feeling by the answer. I think it's going to

(24:29):
be once it's it's not because I don't think they
don't think McCarthy is the long term answer. You're three
and two, the Packers three one and one. The kiddies
are foreign to it's wide open. I know there's a
lot of fans out there that think, you know, i've
seen enough put them on ice, meaning the team that
they're not going anywhere. Well, a lot of these players

(24:50):
that have been gone with the injuries are coming back
and the team's not gonna do with the fans. They're
not just gonna run up the white They're gonna they're
not gonna go anti on the bit and say, well,
this season's going nowhere fast, we may as well see
what we have with McCarthy. As you had stated very
eloquently on a couple of occasions, there's still plenty of
time to see what he has right now. With three

(25:12):
and two, I think they'll start Wentz. They do, and
let's say Wentz is Let's say Philadelphia. Philadelphi's lost two games,
but let's say Philadelphia rebounds, they play really well. Wentz
just doesn't, you know, maybe not all on him, but
the offense sputters. They lose. Okay, let's say they go
one more week with them, they take on the Chargers,
and let's say the Chargers are all over. Now you

(25:34):
go to three and four. Let's say the Packers continue
to win, they go to five and six and one
whatever it would be, and then you go maybe a
couple more injuries, and you just say, you know what,
we better just go with McCarthy. Because the thing is,
even if we're not giving up on the year, Wentz
hasn't been very good, So what's the difference. But Wentz,

(25:55):
while he hasn't been brilliant, he's two and one in
that last drive he had in the game. Who's the
last game we played Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah, Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
He looked he looked really good. So I think you
tend to read me. I think they're gonna go with Wentz,
don't you think.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Yeah, I think today was the day where KFC he's
going to play this game. I think for as long
as he can this weekend. He's an honest guy. He's
typically usually pretty revealing, but I do think he still
has a little head coaching him, Like, well, one, I
don't think you wants to throw McCarthy under the boss.
He wants to make a team like McCarthy's got a shot.
But also, you can also play the game with Philadelphia.
Now they got to prepare for two different quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
You play.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
You know, McCarthy can run a little bit more than
Carson Wentz. Wentz is going to get the ball out
a little quicker, so we got to play differently defensively.
But I think you know McCarthy is practicing today. I
did see pictures and videos of him at practice, so okay,
that's a good sign from a health standpoint that he's
at least close, if not all the way back. But

(26:53):
I don't know how you now Carson Wentz hasn't been
brilliant but he's been solid, he's given yourself a chance
to win, and given where we're at in the season,
I don't know why you wouldn't go back to him
and give him a shot. And like I said a
couple of segments ago, the argument against us is, well,

(27:15):
we got to see what we got. Well, to me,
it's you also got to see what you have with
Carson Wentz in the team, right like that, you still
have to see what you have with the rest of
the team. It's not just a quarterback thing. It's do
we still have a shot at being a playoff team
and maybe making a run this year? So you still
have to give that a chance, just as much as
you need to give JJ McCarthy a chance. And if

(27:37):
you still need to see what you got with JJ McCarthy,
there's still plenty of time to do that. It's we
have what eleven twelve, twelve games this year, correct, So
you can go down the line with Wentz for another game.
You could go another four or five games, and at
some point, if the season's going the wrong way, you
still have plenty of time to get your look at
JJ McCarty's correct, And frankly, if that time to see

(28:00):
JJ and McCarthy is next year. That's a good thing
because you've done well with Carson Wentz and given yourself
a chance to.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Win the season.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
That's exactly right. You summed it up quite sinkly, and
as I said moments ago, very very eloquently, and you
know what fans have to remember, they're like I had
the one guy is still so funny. This one sticks
in my head. He texted me, goes, well, you've given
up on McCarthy. No, I haven't given up on him.
I've just there's there's extenuating circumstances and the club hasn't

(28:29):
given up on Obviously, they let Donald go. They could
have resigned Sam Darnold, who was for the most part
last year brilliant. I know he had the awful game
against Detroit where he got a bad case of the
jitters and he didn't play well the Rams game, I
think was more on the offensive line. But they could
have signed him. They didn't want to. They could have
kept Danny Dimes. They didn't want to. Why they added

(28:53):
I think it was out of a friendship and professional courtesy.
Rogers apparently came to Winter Park the new winner Parktco
performance Center and had a conversation with with Kevin O'Connell
and Kevin you know, because of it, again they have
a friendship or relationship of some sort. And because he
is a first ballot unanimous Hall of Fame or four

(29:16):
time MVP, you give him that respect, right, you say, okay, yeah,
I'll have you come in. They probably sat down. By
all accounts, Rogers wanted to play here. But the way
it sounds that it was like, hey, I love you.
You know, it would be great. You know, if if
if it was if if if it was a different
circumstance a different time, it would have been a year ago,

(29:38):
we may have entertained the possibility. We're going with our
guy JJ McCarthy. No hard feelings, and they and they
went their separate ways. It's been good for Rogers. Steelers
are now four and one. He was very good again yesterday.
Now I know it's the Browns. You know who you
play when you play all.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
That Rogers, I would be closer, right.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
I was watching the highlight package up here, and again
you're just seeing the highlight lights, but like a couple
of the past, like like like the Tuddy he threw,
I think one might have been the last one. Yeah. Well,
he's rolling out right and he just kind of points.
He just the one thing about Rogers, I think. And
I don't know this because I don't talk to we
don't text her talk at all, even though he looks slowly,

(30:20):
but I he seems to be.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
In a place.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Maybe it's the darkness retreats. Maybe it's the ayahwuas guy.
I think he has a gal now or did he
get married? Is he married?

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I think he did, yeah, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
So maybe he's just in a different place because when
I watch him on the field, it seems like he's
always he's doug growing it. He's smiling, he's laughing, and
maybe I've missed sometimes. I'm sure there's been the times
where he's angry, but it seems like most of the
time he's out there and enjoying himself. And he just
pointing Metcalf. He's rolling out and he goes, go there
we'll go. And this is while he's he's scrambling to

(30:55):
his right and he throws a perfect pass. Guy, I
don't think he was Metcalf has somebody. But anyway, my
point is he's playing very well. He was twenty one
for thirty yesterday, two hundred thirty five yards, two tuddies
and more importantly, no interceptions. Now, if he were playing here,
would he be having that same kind of performance. Would
we be four and one right now rather than three
and two. It's possible we'd be five and oh, I

(31:18):
don't think so. I don't know. And if you remember,
the offensive line was a mess early on, and that
was really giving McCarthy trouble, and it was also giving.
That's the call I haven't been waiting for. And he
was also giving when some trouble as well. And you know,
now you watched Kansas City Detroit last night. This is

(31:39):
what I like about Gough. He knows when to get
rid of the ball. He doesn't take many sacks, He
gets rid of the ball. He throws accurately. Because he
was he was getting pressured on a number of occasions.
And yeah, that's what McCarthy's haven't learned yet. The youngest
I was watching another highlight package.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Jay Fields for the Jets.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
I don't know if that was just the same sacks
they were showing over and over again, but it looked
like he got sacked forty six times yesterday. A couple
of times, yeah, and they're just bad. Where he's back
there and he just it's the deer in the headlights.
Like I said, we're McCarthy. Where he's standing, there's like, dude,
you gotta throw the ball or scramble. Run. You can't
hang on.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
To it like that through for less than fifty yards yesterday,
didn't he was that what it was? I thought he
did off look it up. It was thirteen to eleven.
It's the final score. It must have been just an
awful game.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
And I.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
All those games in London are awful.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Yeah they do.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
They can't.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
They can't move to that city full time eventually because
they're never good games.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
Jause is Denver's defense considered. They're good defense. Yeah, so
I guess I got to give them the credit to
But I'm telling you what. The Fields guy, he hung
on to that ball and hung on to that ball and.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
He and he fields is nine of seventeen for forty
five yards yesterday.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
It was. It was simply awful. And I don't know
if that kid's got a future or not. Now again
it's not. Also, the Jets are just they're just terrible.
But I saw another stat tann to be bijon Robinson.
Is that his name?

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yeah? Where would you consider top five or in Abauck
top ten? Easily? I may maybe top three, maybe number one?

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Really that good? The numbers they showed he is providing
thirty nine percent of their offensive yardage.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
They throwed him a lot too.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
They said that number hasn't been reached since McCaffrey six
seven years ago. Let me ask you a question, and
I'm not trying to take anything away from b Jeon Robinson,
because as you just stated, he might be the best
running back in leader one of them. Is it also
an indictment how bad the Falcons are offensively? Are they

(33:55):
bad offensively? I only say that just because sometimes a
guy he's just give them the ball so much like
the passing game isn't any good or whatever the case
may be, or the receiving corps week that by default
he gets. Again, not to take anyth away from him.
But is it because they have he's all they have too?
Or is that not the case with Atlanta. I'm not
paying his clos attention to footballs. I once did, so.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
The thing with Bijon is it's not like they give
him that. It's not like they hand it off to
him twenty five thirty times a game because they don't
and in fact, like those in the fantasy football community
would say, wish you to hand him the ball off more.
He's really, really good. He just catches so many passes
out of the backfield. He's you know, he's he's basically
the next Christian McCaffrey in that regard of being elite

(34:41):
receiving running back. You know, the rest of the offense
was supposed to be littered with guys that had high potential.
They spent a first round pick on their wide receiver
Drake London, who has had moments.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
But has not been as great this year.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
They spent a top pick on tight end Kyle Pitts,
who at the time was thought to be a generational
tight end, and he had a good rookie season and
has has regressed ever since, though he's been I think
okay this year. But after that, yeah, I mean you're
talking about Darnell Mooney, who was just a you know,
cast off from Chicago, you know, Michael Pennick's junior I

(35:21):
think were the jury still out on him as a quarterback.
Obviously did well against the Vikings earlier, but other than
the game against the Vikings. I don't think he's done much,
so I would say it's a combination of he's really
really good. I don't think it's Bear, it's not Cleveland
Brown's receivers there, It's not the bare minimum, but it's

(35:42):
I wouldn't call it top half of the league, the
rest of the players.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Away against the Vikings. He looked, Yeah, he looked amazing.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, he was well in Our run defense has been
that's the other thing, you know again, you know we
got guys coming back. Maybe Cashman will wake a big
difference there because somebody's got to because they we've just
been gashed with the running game.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Well, and this is a team that's going to run
the ball.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Yeah, Philadelphia, even though Saquon has had a little bit disappointed,
they and there's still the run game, still the bread
and butter. Jalen obviously can run it as well. What
is it super Bowl hangover?

Speaker 3 (36:21):
I can't say that for because they were four and
oh right, So I don't see it's I don't think
it's a super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
It's it's hard to ever put your finger on one thing.
I know they didn't get a new offensive coordinator. Now
with Detroit that didn't matter, right, So, but I do
think given A. J. Brown's attitude so far the season
and disappointment with not getting the ball enough, there's something
off there and it might be the philosophy of the

(36:50):
offensive coordinator. I even I think I heard comments from
Saquon Barkley like a week ago about and we just
got to get back to our bread and butter and
cause we got we got to be running.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
The ball here.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
So I know it's there. It's kind of an interesting
week for them, right. They started off four to Ozho,
They've lost two games in a row, They've struggled, they
lost to a you know, a very mediocre Giants team,
and they're on the verge now of remember it was
it two years ago when they had that late season
collapse in Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
They lost last four games in a row.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
I think I feel like their game against the Vikings
is going to be very telling as to how the
rest of the season goes.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Were you what did you make a last night's game?
Did is that kind of what you Chiefs? Yeah? Did
you think?

Speaker 1 (37:39):
Well? The thing with the Chiefs is, I know the
record wasn't great going to but Pat Mahomes has been
good this year, and I know the last year or
two maybe the stats have gone down a little bit.
He's been really, really good. They've had zero run game,
their defense hasn't been as good as what we saw
last year. And he finally got Xavier Worthy back. They're

(38:00):
going to get Rashie Rice back now, and I think
he's their best receiver. You said a little bit more
from Kelsey last night. A guy who looked like he
was ready to retire any moment. Now, he had some
moments last night, even even had one where was a
little yard Africa, a little yak, which has been a
struggle with him. I think Kansas City and even they're

(38:21):
talking about on the broadcast last night. If you heard
collins Worth and Erko saying, yeah, we were talking to
their coaching staff and even though they're two and three, like,
they're more excited about this this team and even than
the one that went to the Big Game last year.
And I think it's because they're going to have more
depth now on offense, especially with Rashie Rice back, And yeah,
I can see the Chiefs going on a run here,

(38:42):
even though their schedule is extremely challenging.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
What did you make of the kiddies. They are hurting
the secondary.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
They look good though.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
I mean they have five guys out in the secondary again,
five guys. They went out and got the DJ Reid guy.
He was he's a really good cornerback. He was there,
big free acquisition. He's out now. It seems like most
of these guys, it is. It's not like last year
where they were losing guys for the season. Seems like
all the guys right now are going to come back.

(39:09):
They just need help in the secondary. And when you're
against Mahomes, he's gonna he carves up good secondaries much less.
There was one guy for Detroit and he had a
pass breakup. It was his first play of the season.
I remember his name now. It was his first play
and he broke up of Homes that would have been

(39:30):
for first unforceumate to punt or something.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
Well, that's what seems like that that rock yes Sin Yeah,
he seemed to have some bad moments.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Had some bad moments too, Yeah, because I don't think.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Kind of all started with that first drive right where
Detroit marches down the field methodically getting whatever they want.
They took like ten minutes off the clock get all
the way to the one yard line and you end
up with three points. To me, you had a chance
to really put a statement on that game to begin with. Well,
and and the play in the manner in which they
had to go backwards.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
Yeah, well and the play they called it was a
trickeration play. It was where golf came out from under center.
But as they said, and I did not know the
rule until they said it, a quarterback can do that.
But he's he has to he has to get set
in the backfield, and he didn't. He just he never
stopped and he ran.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Then he was all it was.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
It was a brilliant and he almost dropped the ball
and then he ran into a Monross Saint Brown who
was blocking the guy. I think it was a Monross
Saint Brown, and they still got in the end zone.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
Then they were going to go forward again the.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
Tilay game penalty. So then they went ahead and kicked it,
and then there was one of Monross Saint Brown dropped
the pass and he never balls and that would have
been for a first down. It gave Kansas City the
ball and they scored again. So no shame of you.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
You're playing teams like Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Exactly right, But I I do think. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
I got a tough game this week to I mean,
they got, they got.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
They play who do they play?

Speaker 2 (41:04):
I don't recall, but yeah, they got Tampa Bay.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
Yeah, Tampa Bay. That's Monday Night, right, or they got
the Monday Night.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Or yeah, Monday Night at the litter Box.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
How good was Mayfield again last night? I'm telling you,
I just I some guys just get better. He's good.
He's been so good. It's been fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
We'll break, We'll come back.
