and beyond. Uh and a lot of talent in that studio.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Not normally we would be doing the news here, but
we are not because it is Thursday, and I mean
s Fargo flashes here.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Thomas is your best day of the week?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
No, Ben.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Did he pass? I know he's got to take care
of the Do you want to know where the body is?
Oh Bundy reference? Yeah, can we quit?
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Let's quit.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
That's where you draw the line. Dead body is left breast? Whoa, Yes,
That's where I'll draw the line. Fantastic dragging my ass. Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Is that Pat Kestler? I looked to a Mombrera last night,
like this guy's a gold mine.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, hilarious, know it all. Pat Kessler's excellent. Have you
consumed marijuana? Yes?
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Cyonara suckers.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yesterday?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I know over there right now, going through the entire
two segments because I'm Kessler is going to be the
new Mark Rosen.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
He's yeah, he's a gold mind. Kessler's that's right, hockey,
a huge Golpher fan page news guy. Yeah, he's a
Hall of Fame this weekend. Going in the Hall of
Fame is awesome to Pat Wrestler Whales.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Guy, and Flash said he's a huge Ye, I'm last
week tail game, he said.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
He said that they left the game I think during
the third quarter. Yeah, because Men was so upset his
wife and on the way home he started to talk
to her about the game, and she looked at him,
put her hand on his arm and said, we will never.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Speak of this day again. I'm like, yeah, I love her.
She's the best. YEP. Game was a tough one. We're
going to speak of it again right now.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
I don't know if I've ever seen a game shift
as much as it did from first half to second.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Was shocking. It was shocked.
Speaker 7 (02:29):
It was the make sense what happened defensively, Flash, because
I mean it was just the seas parted in the
second half and that running back was just running wild.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Well and if you remember so the you know the
first quarter, we have a you know what I call.
The only mistake in the first half was the interception
that Brozemer threw, which was actually a mix up, I
believe between the running back and the in the quarterback.
You think he's gonna a one way and he goes
the other, and so it's a It's actually not as
bad as actually looked because it it was a good
play call. It was a check down and great reading
(02:58):
by the linebacker, so he put on a short field.
They score, and then we have a great second quarter.
We score two touchdowns. But right before the half, we're
in a pre event and you could see for the
first time in the half, I was starting to do
something with the run game. So I actually walked out
a halftime or walked into halftime a little bit questioning like,
what's what was that about? Because they had kind of
ripped off a couple of long runs. But again, we're
(03:20):
back in a prevent so I could get my head around, Okay,
it was kind of a one off deal. Well, then
you sit down for the second half. If you didn't
sit down quick enough, I would drove the field in
about ninety seconds, and it opened up with the play
action pass. Then they rip off a long run with
a penalty and when and then it's snowballs from there.
And that was kind of a preview what the third
(03:42):
quarter was going to be and what the difference was.
It was more of a fundamentally sound first half where
you had eleven hats getting to the ball carrier kind
of fundamentally and wrapping him up and containing him. And
if you watch that third quarter, guys are flying in
the football, but not the greatest angles, not getting off
(04:05):
of blocks the way they did in the first half.
And then a lot of times you had a tackler
going in to make this a tackle and another kayake
comes in and kind of like hits them off the tackle.
It's like it was the weirdest thing, and it happened
a number of different times, which made a three or
four yard run spring for fifteen to twenty And so
(04:25):
you got to get back to having like fundamentally sound
football at the point of attack. Number One, It starts
with getting off a block and making sure you don't
stay blocked. That's defensive linemen, linebackers in safeties. You have
to make sure you work together to tackle a ball
carrier like the guy they had last week who was exceptional.
And then the third thing, if those first two don't work,
(04:46):
you have to make sure the safeties are taking the
proper angles to contain long runs, to be more medium
versus kind of going the distance, and so that snowball
and effect of the d line couldn't get off of
blocks that in the first half, kind of poor tackling
at the point of contact with the linebackers and secondary
and then bad angles made for a disastrous second half.
(05:09):
And Corey, You're gonna read the stats, but everything you
know it's like go you know the third quarters that
go for fifteen yards and thinking, Iowa two hundred.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Plus ozin I'm a little man. So it was so,
how do we fix that for Saturday though? Or is
it just not fixable in one week? What I mean
is this a Michigan offense going to run it up
as well from the running game because saw you said
earlier this week, and I don't know much about Michigan football,
but I guess they have a similar format of not
(05:39):
a great quarterback, but they can run the balls.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
We honestly, how many times do you know did Michigan? Yeah,
I think they threw it off like fifty eight yards.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Michigan threw the ball for I think thirty two yards.
I believe the quarterback was seven of twelve. It was
his first start as a quarterback. But this is a
game more so than Iowa. You have to sell out
to get to stop the run. That's what Michigan does,
and they've been They were fair successful last week. They
ran against the USC defense, which again I think is
still finding their way.
Speaker 8 (06:05):
We've talked about this before.
Speaker 6 (06:06):
When you look at USC defenses, they've been atrocious in
the last few years. So this defense is better than
they've been, but by no means, I don't think is
a defense that's arrived. So what Michigan did is in
is really because they don't have a quarterback that can
really make it work through the air, they commit to
the run.
Speaker 8 (06:22):
And so if you if you're going to have.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
It, if you're if you're having success this week against Michigan,
it is to shore up everything that happened in the
second half last week for the Gophers and being much
more fundamentally sound against the run. And the only thing
that I would see, and you know, it's kind of
a personnel decision. Minnesota often sits in a nickel defense
where they bring in they take off a linebacker, they
(06:46):
put in a fifth defensive back and and that guy's
Jack Henderson, and he's a little bit of a jackknife
pun intended because he's he is great against the run,
and it may be better against the run than he
is defending the pass.
Speaker 8 (06:58):
So he's almost like.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
A line But when you're going up against Michigan and
because of their they're so committed to the run, it's
almost commatically you could think of doing something different than
you did last week.
Speaker 8 (07:10):
I mean you I don't.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
I wouldn't say you're in goal line defense, but you're
in a run defense that I would. I would expect
maybe to see more defensive defensive fronts on Saturday that
put true three linebackers on the field and maybe Jack
Henderson back at that safety position.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
So it's it's a little bit scheme.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
And then it's probably more of the fundamentals, Like it's
less about making these violent tackles. It's more about fundamentally
getting eleven hats around the ball but the ball carried,
to break it down and contain runs.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I loved Blitz forty six.
Speaker 8 (07:44):
That's what it.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, it through the air. That's just sell out. Just
run Blitz every play. Yeah, just get aggressive.
Speaker 8 (07:52):
What's there to lose, right, Like, just go sell out
against the run.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Right, If we sell out against the run and make
them throw, maybe we gonna turn.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
We stick around that third quarter and who knows, that's
that's what we got.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I'm so, I think eleven guys on the line of scrimmage.
So I'm saying, if you can throw it, go ahead.
Speaker 8 (08:08):
Go for it.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
So so I think I think we're all probably more
concerned with the Minnesota defense given what happened the second half,
but offensively a huge shift as well. Right if you
think of the success that Max Brosmer had in that
second quarter ten straight completions, the best we've seen him
in his first four games, which actually allowed the run
(08:31):
game to go a little bit against a great run
defense for Iowa.
Speaker 8 (08:36):
Where did that go in the second half? I would
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
I really don't think there was major changes made at
halftime for Iowa. But the one thing I would did
change is they brought more pressure and so when Minnesota,
which they again, we we try to commit to the run,
which I questioned in that in that third quarter, but
when we did try to pass, I felt for Max
Brosmer because that offensive line continues to struggle and with
(09:01):
with just bring in a single guy, Tommy, you know,
four down linemen and you're bringing the fifth. So it's
five on five, which I think you should win five
on five. Unfortunately we didn't, and that pressure put enough
pressure on Max Brosmer to be inaccurate through the air.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
So we're good.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
The offensive line is and again you're not going to
run this week against Michigan.
Speaker 8 (09:22):
Guys, this is.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
The strong of a front that you will see the
entire year. Michigan has the two of the strongest defensive
tackles in the country. Oh my god, I mean Michigan,
I mean the crazy one. So running the football this
week is going to be really difficult. So I would
be really, you're gonna have to throw and again it's
not like it's an easy team to throw on, right,
(09:43):
you have the This is the crazy thing about Michigan.
They returned four starters from last year's national championship team.
They return the number one tight end in the country,
they returned the number one defensive tackle in the country,
and the number one cornerback in the country. I mean
so so, but they had but they do have a
lot of changes. They have coaching changes. You have a
(10:06):
first time head coach, you have new coordinators. So there
there's a reason why Michigan's down because I know they reload,
but you still have to give.
Speaker 8 (10:14):
These guys game experience.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
And like Tommy said, because I happen to turn on
the radio as I'm coming in, this is a Michigan
team that's patting themselves on the back.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I agree.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
Right, they came off of a huge come from behind
victory against USC last massive talk about it, and they
and they and again i USC jumped on them, right,
But so, and then the second thing is throw on
the film.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
Talk about the rivalry.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
So I'm saying, is it a rivalry? And many, Well,
it's not new starters sixteen.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
Yeah, you just said, think of all those guys, all
those fives, they're all.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Feeling, they're all feeling themselves. Now we just beat USC
and we're starters.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
Now throw on the second half starters.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, talk about it. What are you
trying to tell overthinking.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
Well, they look past Minnesota because you just throw on
the film. I mean, and is it you throw in
the film? You came through this huge victory last week
last week, actually eleven starters on offense because the tight
ends hurt right now, he's supposed to come back this week.
Eleven of the starters for Michigan did not start a
year ago. You're literally in this again. They're early in
(11:20):
their playing days, so they are talented, as Meat Sauce said,
but they haven't had a lot of game experience. This
is their this is their look past game. Because again,
I really think for Minnesota, you're catching in at the
right time.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
And as as we've seen all week, this point spread's changed.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
I think it's changing because I think a lot of
people are thinking, like Corey over here, they're putting the
money in Michigan, and that's slowly moving.
Speaker 8 (11:45):
I think the point spread down to Minnesota.
Speaker 7 (11:47):
Let's combine the loves of all of you go for
football and mock drafts. Oh hell yeah, nothing from me,
Oh yeah, Sauce SI dot com because they're twenty five
NFL mock draft.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
How many Michigan Wolverines are in the top sixteen three four,
it's four really sixteenth? They have the Chargers taking Colston Loveland,
the tight ends, the tight end, yeah, fifteenth, Kenneth Grant,
the defensive tackle.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
That's what I missed.
Speaker 8 (12:22):
The Mason Graham, the other one.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Will exactly the cornerbackil Old Johnson.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
And then yeah, Will Johnson goes out six, We'll be
fine to the Colts.
Speaker 7 (12:33):
And Mason Graham goes fourth to the Bears. Four in
the top sixteen. It's what they projected.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
But you know they haven't played a lot.
Speaker 8 (12:41):
Well, the other guys haven't, and they turn the film
on and they're gonna be like, man, we're.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Gonna run all over these guys. So check this out.
Speaker 7 (12:48):
You know, they have a little paragraph on each player, right,
all four of them say all like this one Mason
Graham goes forward to the Bears would have been significantly
higher had they not overlooked the Gophers.
Speaker 8 (12:59):
Can't I'm a little draft status.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yep. They get it. They understand, they understand football. They
get it.
Speaker 8 (13:07):
So this is where you just it's a rebound week, right.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
You can't don't let one loss become two and get
back to fundamental football. So defensively, the great thing is
this is a one dimensional Michigan team.
Speaker 8 (13:19):
That's just all they got. Only going to be able.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
To run the football or try to run the football,
right and then offensively, we're going to have to try
to catch them off guard a little bit through the pass.
And I I think it's again we I talked last week,
and I thought it would be a much more of
a lower scoring game. But I think this is similar,
right I I keep going back and forth, is it
A is it a field goal? Is it a is
(13:42):
it a is it? Is it a touchdown? I think
what happens here is there's a couple plays in special
teams that make the difference.
Speaker 8 (13:50):
I like Dragon Kessich. I think our.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Punt coverage improves. I think I think in the kicking
game is an advantage. I think Michigan. I think think
we find them in and we win the turnover battle.
I don't think we'll win the time of possession. I
think it's gonna be hard for this Minnesota team to
stay on the field, but they stay in the field
long enough to make the plays late.
Speaker 8 (14:11):
In this game.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
Their defense keeps us hanging around. I have Minnesota winning
on a walk off field goal, just like in nineteen
eighty six with.
Speaker 8 (14:19):
Chip blow Miller.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
It's all the time is dropped Dragon Kessich, Minnesota twenty,
Michigan seventeen.
Speaker 7 (14:25):
You guys were talking positive, so I checked out for
a second. SI dot com. SI dot Com has the
Seahawks drafting thirty first.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
That's a little optimistic.
Speaker 7 (14:35):
Guess who they have the Seahawks taking with the thirty
first period raft offensive Ta Minnesota, Look at us.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
We don't need to win time of possession this week.
Speaker 9 (14:49):
Hey think think about it. It means when when we
when we do this and they can they can run
the game. They can run the ball all the whole time.
We just bend, don't break exactly. Mexico's out there, throw
some darts at the big House, walk off field, goal
game over. I'm telling you there's a very good chance
that happened.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
They they will dominate the run game. There's nothing we
can do.
Speaker 8 (15:10):
Just got to slow them down, keep them under one
hundred and fifty yards.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
I think I believe the exact same thing. I think
they're going to get their yards, but they're not. They're
not rushing for two hundred and ninety yards on the
go a chance they know, and then.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
We're gonna bring the blitz.
Speaker 7 (15:23):
We're going to force turnovers, get a short field, and
then we're gonna have a nice couple of pass plays.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
And then good field goal quarterback. We're gonna win the
pass kicking game. We're gonna win.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Oh, you're gonna win that punt game. Yeah, they're going
to be punting a lot.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Laugh about it.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
I'm telling you, that's the biggest play. That's the biggest
We struggled the week ago. Yes, the punting game is
better in the.
Speaker 9 (15:44):
We're gonna make them, make them take long drives, ten
to twelve plays that will shorten the game, shorten the clock,
will throw the ball.
Speaker 6 (15:51):
And the greatest thing about this winning the Jug this week,
it's national game of the week.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
That's what I'm saying. This is Gus Johnson. If you
assumed best part. I can't wait to listen.
Speaker 8 (16:01):
I love hearing Gus.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I know. Can you do the morning in the Jug?
Speaker 6 (16:12):
You hang out, you enjoyed the afternoon, and then man,
is there a Saturday night of football?
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Ever?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
So much fun?
Speaker 6 (16:19):
And I threw the chum out this week again to
my boy Leaver. And I really wanted number nineteen Illinois,
which had a big victory.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Last I had no idea.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
Brett brings his guys to Penn State. Penn State White
Out is a nineteen point favorite way I'll money.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
I'll be someone right now. Nineteen that's too much.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
But the more important game this week, which is where
we have our best is number two Georgia at number
four Alabama.
Speaker 8 (16:58):
It's the first time since.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
November third of two thousand that Alabama is a home underdog.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Oh heaven, that's pretty good.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
And if you look, if you watch these teams play
the first couple of weeks, you could say, okay, Alabama
Jalen Milroe, a little bit of a slow start at Wisconsin.
But again then they when they the thing about the
same thing with South Florida, but they kind of they
kind of stick with their game plan and eventually they
just throttle teams and and and again I think those
(17:29):
are you know, Wisconsin probably struggling, but they when they
when they get there, when they get together, they throttle teams.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
And then you look at what Georgia has done well.
Georgie's struggled.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
I mean, if you watch the Georgia Kentucky game just
a couple of weeks ago night game at Kentucky, they struggled.
And so this is one of those games that this
is of course, this is national Game of the Week.
Carson Beck the great quarterback for Georgia. You know, a
little bit banged up, sprained a seed joint, so they've
kind of been hit with.
Speaker 8 (17:57):
The with the injury bug Georgia.
Speaker 6 (17:59):
So and again, I think they're a little bit more
one dimensional Alabama. But Jalen Milro to me is maybe
most is one of the most exciting players in college football.
He can do it through with his legs, he can
do it through the air. I like, and I've picked.
I got Georgia, all right, Ben's got Georgia. I have Alabama.
I believe that his saus is at plus two's two
(18:22):
right now? Yeah, so Leber's got Georgia minus two. I
have Bama plus two.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Yeah, I like.
Speaker 8 (18:28):
I like my chances.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
Flash good luck against the Loverines on Saturday.
Speaker 8 (18:34):
Bring in the jack next Thursday, guys, Yes we will.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Saw you want to run through sports after this? Yeah,
I can't wait. Tommy, do you have to go? Where
can you stick?
Speaker 5 (18:42):
I can?
Speaker 1 (18:43):
I can stick guy as well? Stick Buddy more the
power Trip After this on the fan, Let's go to Hyve.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
Time now for the Vikings Report, presented by Hive, the
official grocery partner of the Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jonathan Grenard.
It joins the Power Trip, Neck Star, Things Diving.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
And the Fan.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
It was Nordo and this is the Powers of Morning show. Sadly,
our main man, Tommy Olsen had to.
Speaker 10 (19:14):
Go to work.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
I had to go change his mind, gotta get out
of here. It was totally had to get a work,
which is fine. We have the sports to get you
right now.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Tom Pellisaro in the next segment and then Marker.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Fox Trip presented by All Around Property President the Boards.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Minnesota Twins finally won a game as they beat the
miserable Marlins eight to three.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
It's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Thank you, thank you. I love Pad Kestler.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Buckston hit a five excuse me, four hundred and fifty
foot home run in the fourth to tie the game
three to three, and then they rolled it to make
it an eight to three win. The only problem, though,
is the Mariners, Tigers, and Royals all won, so with
four games left, the Twins are two back for the
final wildcard spot.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I had play no idea.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Oh thank you Pat. They played the Marlins again tonight.
That is Twins News, brought to you by Quantum Fiber.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Marlin. He just left who left Marlin the Clownfish. He
has to go to work. Yeah, oh got it.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
Sorry, got an email saying hurry up and get to
work with saying weird things on the radio.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
He's gonna dress up as a clownfish for Halloween and
somebody's gonna say, h happy Halloween.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
He's gonna say it's Halloween.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
Yeah, uh huh t boy and clownfish.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
He is such a good bit, uh.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Max. So the Links beat the Mercury last night one
oh one eighty eight to advance in the WNBA playoffs.
The Fisa Collier had forty two tined WNBA playoff record
to lead the Links. They will battle the Connecticut Sun
on Sunday at seven thirty at Target Center.
Speaker 11 (20:55):
Yeah that makes that makes zero sense. I don't really
get the Sunday game bit for the of the NBA.
But the Fista Collier was incredible last night, man. I mean,
she's on the She's on the court with legends like
Diana Tarassi, like Britney Griner.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Who, as Hawk said, is gigantic. By the way.
Speaker 11 (21:10):
Seeing her in real life is absurd and it's insane
when you see her that she's not just scoring seventy
points every single game.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
You know, I know nothing about basketball.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
I had the same thought on Sunday, Max, Why don't
they just pass for the ball.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
It seems like, right, she's she's huge. But that's how
good the Lynx defense is.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
They were swarming, I mean, the Phoenix, the Mercury.
Speaker 11 (21:30):
They could barely even pass the ball to each other
without the Links getting a hand on it.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
And Fee was just another level.
Speaker 11 (21:35):
She's on the court, like I said, with legends, and
she looks a step above everyone. And then yeah, Courtney
Williams is amazing, Bridget Carlton. It's just that's the thing
with the Links, like Fee is gonna do her thing,
She's gonna have amazing games, but that she has such
a good supporting cast that you never have to worry
about the others showing up.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Man. And then and when you play defense like that,
you can win any game. And it was fun. It
was it was a playoff atmosphere in there as well.
Speaker 11 (21:58):
It was fun to have some playoff basketball in Minnesota
before we have some more playoff basketball in Minnesota around
March April time.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
But yeah, that was awesome, man, I think they can
win the whole damn thing.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
The plan is working. I mean, Cheryl Reeve doing what
she does. She's put this team back together the way
she wanted it to be, and it's working.
Speaker 11 (22:13):
Cheryl was not happy early on. Phoenix was getting it
was kind of getting on him early on. Cheryl kind
of to call the time out like a couple of
minutes into she was living. I see what Marns has.
The fear of God from Tim Cheryl Man, she is
she does not play any games man, and she she
got them right. And yeah, and then it was it
was back and forth until it wasn't. The Links started
(22:34):
taking over and now they're offer seven again.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
At least it's not noon, you know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
No, you don't want it to go against the Vikes,
but it was going against Bill's Ravens. And if you're
a die hard Links fan, you're still watching it, I guess.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
But when you're going up against the NFL, you're giving
your chance, zero possibility to bring in a casual sports fan,
which is that's how you grow the game, right. Sure,
niche is gonna be happy no matter when you play
the game. Even if you played it at noon on Sunday,
Links fans would still show up going this is my squad. Yeah,
you're losing the chance at a at a casual fan
(23:10):
if you go against the NFL.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Well, Bonus will need something to do because the twin
season will be over.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Oh I see what you did there. Thank you.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Speaking of seasons that are over, the Gophers battle Michigan
on Saturday at eleven per game at nine. The Gophers
are two and two, they've lost five straight Big Ten games,
and they are nine and a half point underdogs on Saturday.
The over under is thirty five and a half. Week
four starts tonight with Giants hosting the Cowboys, which is
(23:41):
probably being talked about on ESPN right now.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
It is, Oh my god, it is. The Cowboys are
six point favorites.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
We're about to have dot Com Tom on and we're
doing something a little different this week.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Right week right, Jackon's thatch go. Yeah, we're gonna the
Power Hours coming early. Yes, right, that's right.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
So we're gonna start it a couple of minutes here
so you can watch Kevin dot Com slash watching to
be able to see Tom in his fancy home studio.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
He's used to being on TV, so why not just
put him on TV for us he's good. Look a
man down from the NFL networks.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
The Power to a Morning so true that we might
have a shot at having Jeff Darlington on.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Is that real? I've heard Tipper things on that. That's sweet,
very possible. The guy in ESPN, you know who he is? Sure, sure, Yeah,
he looks like Dylan. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
Tom tell Us Serah of the NFL Network to talk
vikings in the NFL and more.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Right after this Power Trip wine shog.
Speaker 8 (24:34):
I'm on too many times I've seen it.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Here's pleas me out of pockast opportunities for the stereotide.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Brigsy's mom is a listener to The Power Trip and
she sent him a text and said, hey, you used
to send your music out of the Power Trip.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
They're playing local music, and so he did. Thanks. Now
history you're getting no sleep and spend all your time
on THHC Jack or sometimes and that they.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
Want to see tickets and you've.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Got to pay a little bit like we is guessing
very magin a little bit like MC better. Then you've
made it.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Every Thursday in the Power Drew Morning Show, we talked
to Tom Pella, Sero of the NFL Network. We do
vikings news slash NFL News with dot com Tom.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Tom I cried crying.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
So here we are. We made it.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
You look look at you.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
Yeah, how about that?
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I got an echo. Maybe I'll take that out of
that that. No, no, it doesn't workcho, you're making it worse. Talk. Yeah,
that's what I do. Just hit all the buttons. Any
ideas there.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Working on it.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Not sure what's going on, playing headphones one one moment, yeah, right,
kill some time.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Watch him look at Rhode Island. Neither a road nor
in island discussed.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
I don't have a spot in my place that looks
as cool as his does behind him.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah, that's sweet. He's got the cool lighting there. Yeah. Yeah,
and helmets. Helmets up there. Man, I think once we
sounded better. That's much better, isn't it. Yeah, sounds great.
There you go that. We'll take that. It's all.
Speaker 10 (26:29):
It's all a big experiment. Yeah, the helmets. So basically,
ninety five percent of this stuff back here is not mine.
They they put everything back there. The only stuff that
is mine's a little bit blurder right there. But it
was my original starting lineup. Guys up there, so.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
We got the bas Yeah, we got Pickerson, Jim Everett.
We've got Darren Nelson back there as well.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Nice.
Speaker 10 (26:49):
You can tell somebody got one on Clarance back in
the day. And uh yeah, the actually this is actually.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
A real thing.
Speaker 10 (26:56):
So in a few weeks I'm moving and they have
to figure out how to disassemble this and moving in
the new house. And so it's been We've had multiple
conference calls on the subject, but I think we got
to figure out.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
So wait a minute.
Speaker 7 (27:05):
When you say they this is what the NFL Network
wants your home to look like. They want the listeners
to think that that behind you represents you somehow, right, It's.
Speaker 10 (27:15):
Actually a false wall. It's built in front of the wall,
covering up the window. And so I was told it's
mid century modern. There was a podcast a couple of
years ago where Peter Schrager, one of my colleagues at
the NFL Network, did yet Paul Rudd on and Paul
Rudd did an entire bit about how much he likes
the triangles in my set, because I do have a
(27:37):
lot of Isauceles triangles back there.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
So we haven't changed it six years and running here
where you moving closer to you? Actually just moving a
little bit west to where I live right.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Now, all right, let's go, we're like, what five minutes apart.
Speaker 7 (27:51):
Now, now we're going to be even closer and still
not spend time together.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Solid two minutes. Yeah, exactly, So come over, we'll hang.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Well, all right?
Speaker 7 (28:00):
Art with the defensive player of the Week in the NFC,
Jonathan Grenard. He is younger than Daniel Hunter. He's a
little bit cheaper than Daniel Hunter. But man, we all
were excited about the possibilities, even if we weren't super
familiar with his game.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
But man, what a start.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
He's been off to the first three games, four sacks,
three of them on Sunday, and he was just everywhere.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
And that was the same way like against the New
York Giants.
Speaker 7 (28:21):
He was all over the field against the Giants, even
though he didn't rack up the stats. But on Sunday
that change with three times getting to C. J.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Stroud would be a nice.
Speaker 10 (28:30):
Little revenge game factor. He's going up against the offensive
line and players that he knows pretty well, and he
took he absolutely took advantage of it. I think that
Jonathan Grenard was such a fascination because you know, he's
young and he's very talented, and the question was just
you know, is he a seventy snap of game type
of guys he can be.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Able to do like the high volume stuff.
Speaker 10 (28:50):
But if you think about how Quasi has really approached
the roster here, in a lot of cases, it's been
find that guy who has the trades, who has the productivity,
who's younger, who even though you pay a lot of
money for him, there's more upside than say bringing back
a Danil Hunter who of course went to Houston in
free agency and happened to put that low hit on
(29:12):
Sam Darnold that had the entire state holding its breath
there for a second. So you know, Grenard's a really
he's a very intelligent guy. You guys know him, you know,
and listening to him after games like he's he's very thoughtful,
engaging type of a dude. They got such a good
locker room there that you're always worried when you pay
a lot of money for somebody who's not in the
locker room.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
What do you bring it in with Grenard? You know,
you're running the guy for five minutes, you go, I
get it.
Speaker 10 (29:35):
You know, even beyond the football, why this one made
sense for the Vikings, The Vikings.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Should one hundred percent prepare to face Jordan Love right, Well,
I wouldn't.
Speaker 10 (29:46):
Say one hundred percent sawus, just because you know, the
Packers last week really went through the week and believe
that Jordan Love had a shot to play in that
game the very first week, you know, coming off the
Brazil game, when everyone in the world said there's no
way he's playing, when Matt the floor was go to
the podium and leaving the door open like that was legit.
So every week that you get further along here, Jordan
Love's getting healthier, He's getting closer to attorney. The original
(30:09):
timetable is three to six weeks. There was always optimism
even when they were on the plane back from Brazil,
that you know, maybe he was going to be on
the shorter end of that spectrum. Well, this Sunday would
be twenty three days since the injury, so it's basically
right on three weeks. There's a couple of steps left here.
One the Packers doctors, who historically are very conservative, need
to clear them. I would anticipate that that would be
(30:31):
something that would happen just because it's an MCL sprain.
It's not the type of an injury where if you
go out there and play on it, you're gonna make
it worse.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
MCLs can heal while you play. You brace it.
Speaker 10 (30:41):
Up and you're not going to be as mobile as
you as you normally would be, but you're probably not
gonna make it worse.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
So that's one step.
Speaker 10 (30:47):
The second step is Jordan Love, in concert with the
medical staff and the coaching staff, has to say like,
I feel good about this, I'm ready to go. I
feel like I can protect myself, I feel like I
can function. You know, those steps haven't happened in these
past couple of weeks here, So would fully anticipate We're
going all the way into Friday, maybe Saturday and Sunday
with you know, uncertainty, at least externally about what's going
(31:10):
to happen here. The Packers knew pretty well by last
Saturday that Jordan Love was not going to be able
or was not going to go in that game. You know,
where are we at by the end of this week?
How does he feel on the field. Those are the unknowns,
But there's also you know, it's the Vikings. They're three
and oh they're coming to lambeau Field. You know, if
that's not the type of game that gets you, you know,
pumped up and you want to be out there.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
I don't know what would be.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Tom Pelliser is our guest and he's brought to you
by Bell Bank. Bell Bank is giving one cafe and
listener each week one thousand dollars to pay it forward
to a charity of their choice. You can nominate a
charity of your choice right there at cafe dot com
for your chance to be selected each week.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Then tune in the Power Trip every Thursday morning.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
We're going to tell you at seven forty during Tom's
segment which charity in person was selected. So go to
cafe dot com, put in the keyword Bell and you'll
find out more information.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
Tom.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
We've got a great bunch of coaches on this squad.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
In fact, one of the things you can say about
the squad is how much fun it is to watch
what the defense does week in and week out, because
you really just don't know, and neither does the other offense.
That said, Brian Flores probably on a lot of people's
short list to be a head coach next year, or
is he? What is your feeling about the league's thoughts
on Brian Flores right now.
Speaker 10 (32:21):
Well, listen, whenever Hockey gets the opportunity to go in
and interview for jobs, there's gonna be a lot of
questions about what happened in Miami. Not just the comments
by two it, but there was a lot of that
stuff in the ether. Anytime that a coach who is
as well regarded as a tactician as Brian Flores gets
let go after his third year, you're gonna have natural
(32:41):
questions and they're going to find that there are some
people that Flores absolutely rubbed the wrong way in Miami.
He has said himself that there's some things from a
leadership perspective that he would need to adjust moving forward.
But if the Vikings continue to do what they're doing,
there's no reason to believe that Brian Flores is not
going to be a head coach candidate, even at a
time that he's still got active litigation against the NFL
(33:05):
and against several teams. I was out on the sideline
in the final minute of that game against the Texans,
and you know, for anybody who hadn't turned off the
tv X, I'm sure a bunch of people already were going,
you know, this game's over.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
CJ. Stroud's out. They got Davis Mills in the game.
Speaker 10 (33:18):
They still have digs and Nico Collins, like the receivers
are still out there. But it's a twenty seven point
game and the Texans are still throwing. They're trying to score.
So they get down inside of the ten yard line.
It's a fourth down. Again, it's a twenty seven point game,
and Brian Flores is like stocking the sideline like this
is for the Super Bowl, Like this is a big play.
(33:41):
He was not going to let the Texans get a
cheap touchdown on him.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
So what does he do?
Speaker 10 (33:45):
Calls the blitz on fourth down and they get in
Davis Mills face. It's an incompletion, and Flores was pumped up.
He was hugging everybody.
Speaker 11 (33:54):
You know.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
He goes out on the field. I'm standing out there
waiting for Aaron Jones and flowing on make.
Speaker 10 (33:58):
Eye contact, and he goes you already know, Tom, you
already know, Like he was absolutely jacked up, like that
was just they had just finished off like a three
point game. You know, he is he is intense, He
is dialed in. He is really really smart with football. Absolutely,
Brian Flores should be a head coach in the NFL again.
I believe that he will the head coach in the
(34:20):
NFL again. You know, the really interesting thing to watch
here will be again it's early in the season, right,
it's three games, but the Vikings are still playing like this,
And if Flow is having this type of success, how
many interviews does he get? Where are those interviews and
how does the process go, because again, there's some things
that he's gonna have to answer, but there's no question
he's a.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
Hell of a football coach.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Speaking of Miami, what do you think they do at
quarterback short term?
Speaker 1 (34:44):
And how long do you think Tua's going to be out?
Speaker 10 (34:47):
So on the second part of that, saus t is
out to at least I believe it's week eight so
end of October.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
Because he's on injured reserve.
Speaker 10 (34:55):
They could have not placed them on IR, which would
have because they got to buy. Their fourth game after
the injury was a buy, so they could have said, hey,
three weeks plus the buy, that's a month, let's keep
them up. That they wanted to as they af throughout
the process, remove the anxiety of you know, the week
to week timetables and the questions he's still going through
seeing specialists this week, you know, continuing to seek answers
(35:16):
on his latest concussion. In terms of when he could
get back, that's all going to depend in part on
the feedback, but the advice that you know they had
gotten and every doctor is going to say this when
you have a player with the history of concussions, which
is you know you probably need a month to make
sure that the concussion fully resolves. He's still got to
go through the protocol. He's still got to get cleared
by an independent neurologists. He's going to take all the
(35:38):
feedback from the other doctors. But you know, to a
wants to be back on the field. I mean, look
at last week. He makes the trip across the country.
It's like what a six hour flight to Seattle. He's
on the sideline. He's got a near buddy in listening
to the place. He's over there communicating.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
With his teammates. That's permissible. I actually checked with the
league on this.
Speaker 10 (35:58):
You know, he's treated like any other player on injury reserve,
which is you can't participate, he can't practice, he can't
be on the field, can't go through warm ups, but
you can be on the sideline. He can be in
meetings and he's been doing all that stuff. The doctors
cleared him to do all those things, and that's what
Tua wanted. Basically, what the doctors told him was, Hey,
if you're feeling good, go about all your normal activities,
just not the on the field football stuff. And so
(36:20):
too his in the building, you know every day when
he's not out seeking medical feedback here. I would really
anticipate that Tua again, pending clearance by everybody, pending to
a feeling good about it, will be back on the field,
and potentially it could be by the end of October
early November. In terms of what they do in the
short term. You know, they like scalert Thompson, what they
saw from him back in the preseason. You know, he
(36:42):
won the job over Mike White as the number two
quarterback here. But obviously we haven't there's not a long
track record at skylet Thompson. He got beat to a
pulp in that game the other day. He's got a
really painful rib injury. We'll see over the course of
the week if he has any chance to play. It
seems like come out of the gate. Probably not, which
then you're option is are Tim Boyle, who's a practice
squad quarterback. We've seen Tim Boyle, good guy, smart enough
(37:04):
to be you know, your third straight.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
You probably don't want to play with him in a game.
Speaker 10 (37:07):
The guy who's actually played and had some success in
the NFL is Tyler Snoop Huntley, who brings a totally
different type of an element to the table in terms
of you can run them, you can do designed runs,
you can run zone read. You know, maybe it's kind
of like, you know, going all the way back to
you know, Kyle Shanahan's days when he was in Washington
and you were just you know, throwing out a lot
(37:29):
of your offense which is very similar to Mike McDaniel offense,
and you were running different concepts with Robert Griffin the
third because that was what his skill set was. McDaniel
train under Kyle Shanahan for a long time. Is there
a way that you can come out and maybe surprise
people by running totally different stuff They've never seen the
Dolphins run on tape with Snoop Puntley. They play I
believe it's a Monday night game, and so that'll be
(37:50):
really interesting to see right now, Just my guess I
would say snow Puntley gets the start this week.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Where does it go from here?
Speaker 10 (37:57):
That will depend in part on how this game goes,
the health of Sky Thompson and ultimately what type of
feedback they're getting on TUA, because you're not going to
pursue a long term, you know, big trade type of situation.
If you think two is back in a month or so.
If they start getting information that hey, maybe longer on TUA,
then you got to start thinking, Okay, what are some
of the bigger Boulder moves.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
We might have to make a.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
Couple final questions for Tom Peliasero of the NFL Network
thanks to Bell Bank, and then we'll wrap it up.
But Tom, Trevor Lawrence fifty five ish million a year,
he's getting his ass kicked in Jacksonville. They've lost a
billion straight games this year Owen three and he has
a completion percentage of fifty two point eight and he's
thrown two touchdowns through three games. Do we have immediate
(38:40):
buyers remorse in Jacksonville with Trevor Lawrence's contract, Well.
Speaker 10 (38:44):
Listen Owen three is bad, Corey Owen eight is worse,
and that's Trevor Lawrence's record in his last eight starts.
Going back to the end of last season, the Jaguars
were eight and three at one point last season. They
seem to be in control. People are talking about them. Hey,
are are they the biggest threat to the Chiefs in
the AFC. The only game they've won since was when
Trevor Lawrence was out and they started CJ. Bethard in
(39:07):
like week sixteen or seventeen last year. Trevor Lawrence in
a wins is not a quarterback step, but he's certainly
a big part of what they do. Oh eight is
last eight starts, So that's the same guy who lost
his last five starts last season who they paid that
fifty five million dollars per year. I was certainly in
the camp where I was surprised that it got to
(39:28):
that number, matching the highest API at the time of
any contract of any player in the NFL. You've because
you've seen the good of Trevor Lawrence, but you've also
seen the bad. I mean, it's been a roller coaster
ride for him so far in his career. These are
the moments now where your highest paid player, your best player,
has to play his best. Trevor Lawrence hasn't played at
(39:48):
his best. There's gonna be a lot of pressure because
oh to three is enough of a hole in the season.
Oh to four you start to get to like that
historic level where your playoff chances are diminished to under
one percent. Uh So, this is a big game this week,
there's no doubt about it. And they got to go
face the Texans team that's still licking its wounds from
the beating the Vikings put on them last week.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
Time, you're the best, dude.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Thank you, appreciate you showing us your false wall, and
we'll talk to you next Thursdays.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
I going to see you in Green Bay. Are we
going to hang out?
Speaker 10 (40:18):
I will be right here in front of the false
walled delivering the news on game day morning Sunday morning.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Well, if you want a stream yard to me, I'll
come to you right from the from the stadium.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
It's twutiful. I'll do that experiment. We can see how
many echoes we can get there.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
I love it. Thanks Tom, all right, Tom?
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Yeah, absolutely, And again, please go ahead and nominate somebody.
Go to cafe dot com and put in the keyword
bell right there and search forward and nominated Cherry and
charity to pay it forward thanks to our friends at
bell Bank.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
And by the way, I want to say real quick
a shout out to Ruby Clone everybody.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
We're red on Tuesdays, Ruby Tuesday for Ruby Clone News.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
I'm doing some battling of her own and is one
of the Bell Bank families. What a cool name. Yeah,
good luck to Ruby. Absolutely. Another really cool name is
Parker Fox.
Speaker 7 (41:02):
I would like to nominate you, Parker Fox, to get
a thousand dollars. So yeah, and you have to give
it away. I have to pay it forward with charity,
but I would like to give it to you.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
That's what I'm gonna do anyway. Hawk Ah good Yeah, exactly.
Adorable Parker Fox is here.
Speaker 7 (41:15):
The Power Trip Morning Show returns with Fan five and
look sauce you guys shook your head.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
You doubted me. I'm gonna be rich. I'll explain why.
Speaker 7 (41:24):
After this Power Trip Moarning Show, super filthy rich, after
this phone on the wall
Speaker 2 (41:31):
And no time for free nothing,
