Speaker 2 (00:16):
Dot com well said, yeah, don't do that.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
I would agree with you. Please do unanimous, Please don't
this show, please don't All right, we do, Fan.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
It's a good transition. I think it is.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Thank you, and we are going to have dot com
Tom here in just a bit.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Oh, that's right, that's right. So we'll make this a quickie.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's time for Fan five on the Power Trip, presented
by Builders and Remodelers.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Thanks Builders.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Shout out to the Gopher basketball team and our guy
Nico Medved. They upset number twenty two Indiana seventy three
sixty four. That game was tied at thirty three at
the half. Gophers were big underdogs going into the game
because the Hoosiers were scoring like seven or sorry ninety
points a game almost on average.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
They were undefeated.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
It looked like it was going to be a guaranteed
loss for the Gophers, but alas it was not. All
five Gophers starters in double figures. Gophers up to five
and four, Indiana seven and one, storming the court afterwards,
which pissed people off on Twitter. You know, they don't
like to see the court storming ben after it.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, why is that? I don't know who cares that?
The kids?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
People?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Let them have fun, especially the court, because I get
like the field there's you know, the people have to
jump off on there.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
It's the people.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
It's a lot safer to jump onto the court. Yes,
though I suppose at the barn it's a little more
dangerous elevation. You got to fly off there.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Yeah, statum, you gotta go down. Yeah, the Gophers you
got to go up. It's it's all right down up.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
This is definitely one of those sports takes that I
would have had a different take twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Now it's like, who cares? Just let them stort in
the court. What do I care? Right, go have fun?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
What if you were if you were at that game,
if you're like, I'm buying tickets to go watch the
Gophers get absolutely destroyed by Indiana and then they win,
and then you see some college kids running under the court,
You go, hell, yeah, why not there's only like a
couple of thousand of us here, go have fun.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I stormed the court one time. I'm sure you did.
We were I was here. I was working Vikings. The
Gophers were playing Ohio State that night, and uh it
was halftime when I left here and the Gophers were leading,
And so I went to Williams RNA on the way
home snuck in and do you sneak in? He just
(02:36):
you talk to some people, you know, a couple of crackers.
Oh gosh, I chucked the wrong door out. I wasn't
didn't mean to leave.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
You're always doing that.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
You dropped the I accidentally left, so I get back in.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
That's pretty that's a fault for that.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
You know. I'm charming.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Didn't you storm court one time on your birthday?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Well there's a few doors down, but yeah, okay, do
you ever storm a castle? Oh does Excalibur count?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (03:10):
Yes, storm that place? And because of the day of
your birthday? Have you ever stormed the capitol?
Speaker 7 (03:17):
That was?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
That was the other one.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yeah, you know, Wesley and the man in black and
physic storm the castle and that was like guarded by
sixty men. Hello, I only need wishes take it down.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
A notch calm down, yeah, be cool.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
And Carrie Alwis, by the way, fantastic, she's an actress.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, I love love her in that movie.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Giannis in the Bucks are discussing his future, which is
really bad timing because he got hurt last night. The
Bucks are ten and thirteen after a win against the
Detroit Pistons, but he got hurt, left the game early.
He's going to have an MRI. He's got a right
calf stream. But they're talking about should I be moving
on from Milwaukee? So it sounds like the Bucks and
Giannis and his reps are going to discuss where is.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
This going that's strange, whether or not he should be.
So he gets hurt, then all of a sudden, it's like,
I don't know if I want.
Speaker 7 (04:16):
To be here.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
It was the other way around.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah, So the story came out that they were discussing
his options and then not good timing that last night
he gets hurt early in the game and then leaves.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
And the story also so they started talking before the
season too. It didn't really work out, and then he
kind of was like I'm staying guys.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
But the whole time he's been like I don't know
about this.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
So do you think the calf injury is legitimate or
is that just kind of.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Like probably is legit because you definitely want to be
healthy if you're moving on right to another seam.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Yeah, unless it's a mild calf strain, a mild calf
strain which is going to heal.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
In like a week. Chris, your hands up.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
We were not on the radio when this happened, but
it did involve somebody who used to play for the Wolves.
Do you remember when Latrell Spree we had to choke that.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Guy, PJ. Carlissimo.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Yeah, he was a coach yeh, a gop gopherst with
the Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
That's right, Yeah, that happened on this day in white year.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Spree played for the Warriors in something like I'm gonna
say ninety.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Eight, real close, ninety seven, damn it.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
December fourth of nineteen ninety seven, NBA suspended Latrell Spree,
Wall three time All Star point guard for the Golden
State Warriors for one year after he attacked Warriors coach PJ.
Carlossimo during practice on December first. Spreeway had a verbal
confrontation with Carlossimo when the coach told him to quote,
put a little mustard on a.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Pass, when Carlosabeth was not the story it is, it is,
I'm reading the Yeah, this is from history dot com.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
When when Carlossimo approached him, Spreewall grabbed the coach around
the neck and began choking.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
That's see, you guys, You guys are doing revisionist history.
There's nothing news. There's nothing in the nineties that you
could say to a basketball player that pissed them off
more than spring. Why don't you put a little mustard
on that pass? Like that was the equivalent of a
nineties slur. You can't tell me to put mustard on
a pass. Yeah, you prick.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Several other players.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
See it's triggering me. I'm reliving it all over again.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yeah, I'm sure I couldn't dribble with my left hand,
but I put some mustard on those passes.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Listen, he came back with extra mustard because they told
him to leave practice. He did return twenty minutes later
and threw a punch of Carlossimo.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
You can put a little stak on it.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
I love that again.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I can put some stak on it. Oh, God, I
love that anyway. May I missed those days where you
could just beat up a coach and keep playing.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Somehow, he comes back twenty minutes. They're thinking he's calmed
down and everything. You know, Okay, that's you know, cooler
heads are going to prevail here.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
They just throw some punch.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yeah, I gotta believe he listened. I don't want to
go out on a limb, but I gotta believe the
mustard thing was the last strong.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Up.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
I think that was the only thing he ever said
to them all season long.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Like his grandparents died choking on mustard or something. He
was a vet. We didn't know.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
And in his defense, you know, he was under a
lot of stress. He had a family to feed. He
did on an NBA salary. I mean, that's happy to do.
He'll never live that down, do you do.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
You know when he was traded to the Timberwolves two
thousand and two, Well you're really good. July two thousand
and three, Okay, I.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Thought it was.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I thought it was maybe the three season in, but
I couldn't remember if it was the three Western Conference
finals of the four right, whatever?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
He was really good, right, He was a great second option.
I'll check this out.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
I'm on his Wikipedia and it explains the incident with
Carlos Simo, and then after that it says this was
not spirit spree worlds violent incident with the Warriors. In
nineteen ninety five, he fought with teammate Jerome Cursey, returned
to practice carrying a two by four and reportedly threatened
to return with a gun.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Wow. But again, it was a giant deal on nineties,
it might have just been a tip of the cap
to the w w F. I gotta love Hacksaw Jim.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Were they in the middle of practice and almost, oh
my god, is that no, he's got a ball? Awesome
if that had been the start of the nickname, like
hacksaw latrell spreewheel, and then you brought a gun like
the big boss man.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
And then was like, this isn't enough. I'm coming back
with a gun.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
I can barely swing this thing.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
And the best part about it is David's turnback. Then's like, no,
let them, let's play a little ball here.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Let him keep going. This isn't like.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Exactly yeah, should we punish him pretty bad?
Speaker 4 (09:02):
A gun in a two by four to practice. He
threatened to kill Jerome Percy. That kid's pretty good to play.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Four foot guy over there.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Did you hear what he said to it?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
No, the NBA is very pro mustered, so we're gonna
let this kid keep playing.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
And then it worked out for us, didn't Gilbert arinaus
like just bring his gun.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
To the plane on the plane. Yeah, it was in
the locker room too.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
I think I think Gilbert brings guns everywhere. He Uh, man,
he's a strange guy.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Here. He went on this rant.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Yesterday about Chris Paul getting kicked off the Clippers. Like
Gilbert just uh he loves social media. Man, some of
these Gilbert loves it.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
These former players should have they should have to have
a license to get podcast mics.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Yeah, no, doubt entertaining.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Though. You know the record right now of the Oklahoma
City Thunder. They've lost with one.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
They're twenty one in one, they've won thirteen straight. They
host Dallas tomorrow night. Then he was gonna bring it
up because I just noticed that the Wolves have them
on the the schedule again in a couple of weeks.
Two weeks from tomorrow, they host Okay See Friday, December nineteenth,
twenty one and one the defending chimes are.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Honestly, it's I mean, it's impressive for all of us.
If I'm a player, though, it's kind of.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Boring if you're a Thunder player or just really I think,
so what if this it might be a late pst
entry here we'll see boring in what way though?
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Like where's the spiciness to like, Okay, we are great,
we played well. We want we won again? Like, I
don't know, I think having a little ebbs and flows
your season keeps seeing it it's such because it's such
a long season.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
What if it breaks the record though for the best
season and the history anything about being the best.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
Try hard, that's true.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (10:47):
If it were an NFL season, yeah absolutely, it would
be awesome to be undefeated.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
But eighty two games and you would lose like five
of them.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
You're like, I don't know, that might never be done
again though in your lifetime. That's you go seventy five
and seven.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I mean, I'll take it. I guess that's boring.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
That's where I get bored is if it's not like
a record breaking thing. If we if it is like
a nine or ten win season, yeah, nothing, I'm to
get experimenting with like man.
Speaker 9 (11:19):
Sit out.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Exactly, I'm super bored. I'm bored too, man, I'm real bored.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
A little mustard on it.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Watch you come over and watch heated rivalry.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Show you the thunder, Uh, Tom Pellasaro, next dot com
Tom after this on the fan, Hey Rubes.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
This football season, Bell Bank is giving one cafe and
listener each week one thousand dollars to pay it for
to a charity of their choice. All thanks to Bell
Bank for head over to Cafe dot com keyword contest
there more than to today's Cafe dot Com keyword contests.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
All Right, Ben Lever was her final segment of The
Power Troop Morning Show tomorrow five thirty to nine.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Crisa will be here No sauce tomorrow, that's right.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Yes, but one segment with Ben today about fifteen more
minutes and it's going to be a lot of football
because now it's time to talk to our guy Tom Pelisara.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yes, and he knows football. He didn't play ball. They
didn't play ball again, he could have, he didn't.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
He's a tryhard guy. I guarantee you that.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
Have we asked him before what position he would play
or he thinks that he can play good question.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
I don't know. I never know what Tom's doing.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Tom, can you hear us?
Speaker 7 (12:36):
I hear you.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, Yeah, I guess you don't like I.
Speaker 7 (12:40):
Guess you don't like that expert he didn't play though.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Well, what we've learned, what we've learned.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Yeah, but what we've learned, Tom Pellasaro, is that, you know,
if you tell people they don't play ball, they get
really triggered.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Yeah, so of course pop poked the barrels.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yeah, did you play youth football? Tom pella Saro?
Speaker 7 (12:58):
I played flag in elementary school. That's that's as far
as it went.
Speaker 9 (13:03):
You know, when you when you still weigh like one
hundred and twenty pounds in middle school, it's you know,
it's tough to tough to really convince your parents.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
That foot playing football is going to be a good idea.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
So wait, would you weigh in middle school?
Speaker 7 (13:17):
I mean maybe a buck twenty.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
That's a huge bitch.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
I just wanted to hit the button. He just want
to hit the I just wanted to hit the huge
bitch button. That's one way to go. Yeah, did you
play tennis? Basketball? Would you play?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Then?
Speaker 2 (13:29):
You must have played some kind of sport.
Speaker 9 (13:31):
Played baseball, baseball all the way through high school, played
basketball until I got cut sophomore year.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Speaker 7 (13:38):
Illustrious, illustrious sports career.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
But never thought of covering baseball since that was the
game that you played the longest.
Speaker 9 (13:46):
Well, I mean in my early days in radio, there
were times where I'd be there and then realized, wow,
these are really long days covering baseball. It's like the
clubhouse opens at like two in the afternoon, the game
ends at ten, you're out of there night.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
It's like that seems like a lot of time.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
We talked about it and around We talked about this.
Leaving the stadium on Sunday, Jared and I were walking out.
We were like, yeah, man, they'll probably pretty much do
it for playoffs for the season, and you know we
got five games left. Well, imagine it's baseball season and
you're out of contention and there's fifty games left in
the season.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
That would imagine that.
Speaker 9 (14:20):
When the Twins start oh and six or oh and nine,
and then you're like, well, just one hundred and fifty
odd games to go, we're gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah, yeuh yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
So the thing is I felt kind of bad about this.
Speaker 8 (14:31):
In the postgame interviews, I think I was talking to
Jayleen Naylor and I'm like, yeah, you guys are basically
you're out of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
You're done.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
But Tom, I guess I'm mistaken, Like, did the vi
can still have a chance?
Speaker 7 (14:44):
Is there still a Yeah, they're technically alive. But just
consider this.
Speaker 9 (14:49):
According to our next gen stats, folks, if the Lions
lose tonight, their playoff percentage drops like nineteen percent. So
put a dot in probably some zeros and then you
get to the number of the Vikings playoff hopes.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
I mean, listen, this is you know, the season is
what it is at this point.
Speaker 9 (15:06):
And I think that you heard Kevin O'Connell reference it
the other day, which is, you know, specifically talking on
JJ McCarthy. It's no longer about you know, mechanics and fundamentals.
It's just like, just go play. Go play the position
he's not been able to stack the entire year. Just
be out there, stay healthy, avoid the type of hits
that get you hurt. Just go play the position. They
(15:27):
want to see is he going to finish on an
upward ramp here? Is this offense gonna finish on an
upward ramp. It's not going to be the you know,
the sole determiner of exactly what their big picture plans
are in the offseason, but it's it's going to be
a part of it because I mean, I feel like
we talk about every week you've seen some really good
from JJ McCarthy, but the bad has been really bad,
and you just you're hoping that you're able to smooth
(15:49):
that out.
Speaker 7 (15:50):
He still only started six games.
Speaker 9 (15:51):
It sounds like he's on track to be back this
week against the Washington team that's been better on defense
last couple weeks since Dan Quinn has been calling it,
but still not great defensively. Let's see if they can
you know, make some plays in a game that I
think when the when the schedule came out, you went,
oh Man, two teams that won a ton of games
last year, Commanders were in the in the NFC Championship game,
(16:11):
Vikings won fourteen games.
Speaker 7 (16:13):
It's gonna be a big one in early December.
Speaker 9 (16:14):
And instead you got two teams that are both, yeah,
clinging to that final shred of playoff hopes and really
in the big picture, thinking toward you know, building toward
twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Tom Pelli Sero thanks to Bell Bank. A couple of things. Tom.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Number one, I love that either you or the NFL
network said hey, make sure you put some Christmas trees.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Behind you for the next handful of weeks.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
That's the cutest Christmas tree.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
I remember it every year.
Speaker 9 (16:35):
And I got a box of just stuff and it's like, yeah,
we're gonna put up the little sad light up Christmas
tree and I got.
Speaker 7 (16:41):
My Elvist record back there, and yeah, there's a few things.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
It looks good, it looks festive. No, it looks it's
a good aesthetic. It looks solid.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
That's number one. Number two.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
A couple of people this week have discussed the idea
that that the Vikings can't quote run it back in
twenty twenty six, right, whether it's Cozy Koc, the coordinators,
the something is going to significantly change. What do you
think not running it back in twenty six looks like, well, listen,
I think that if.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
You've seen anything from the Vikings over the several years
that it's been Kevin and Kuacy at the top of
the totem pole, they've been aggressive every off season. There
have been significant moves, whether it's letting you know, the
likes of Kirk Cousins move on this past offseason, deciding
to you know, move forward with JJ McCarthy as the quarterback.
You know, in terms of signings, in terms of trade,
they've been aggressive throughout and when you have a season
(17:31):
like this, you know, you know, at some point postseason,
I'm sure Quaysy'll talk about it, but I guarantee he's
already thinking about, you know, going back through and the
various decisions and you know, where there be anything that
you would do differently. How much of this was you know,
circumstantial with with injuries and other things here. I do
anticipate there's gonna be changes, but I would say that's
every year right now with the Vikings. The most monumental
(17:53):
thing is going to be what do you do at
the at the quarterback position. You know, is it additive
in terms of bringing in a veteran is it a
compete situation? Is it get the mechanics right? And you know,
think JJ is going to be just in better shape
in twenty twenty six if you can stay on the field.
I don't think that they'll proceed without a veteran quarterback
on the roster. Before you know, cutdown day like this
(18:14):
year with Carson Wentz that I don't anticipate, but yeah, absolutely,
I mean there's gonna be a lot of changes in
terms of like the top line type of stuff.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
The Wilfs are very private about that.
Speaker 9 (18:23):
It would surprise me at this point if they're making
any major changes, especially after extending Kevin and Quac last offseason.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
But we'll see.
Speaker 9 (18:31):
It's absolutely a you know, a disappointing season. I think
that everybody everyone should know at this point how much
the Wolves care, how much they want to win, you know,
and there's an emotional element to that, there's a business
element to that. I've got no doubt that there's going
to be some you know, hard conversations to take place
after the season.
Speaker 7 (18:47):
But first, you know, let's see what happens in these
final five games.
Speaker 8 (18:51):
How do you think it plays out? When you mentioned
the veteran quarterbacks they could bring in, because as of
right now, the whole league knows that there's not a
lot of guys to choose from that could be a
viable starting quarterback. You have Mac Jones, who you're going
to have to trade for. He's not just going to
be a guy that's gonna be on the open market.
You have Jacoby Brissett, who is probably going to be
(19:12):
retained by Arizona, which means Kyler Murray is going to
be on the market. Another guy is like Jamis Winston.
The issue is there's a lot of teams out there
that are gonna want their services. You may have to
overpay for one of these guys just to compete. And
then if actually jj wins that the real competition, then
(19:33):
you've got a high priced backup quarterback. Like, how do
you feel all of that's gonna get worked out with
some of those players that I mentioned.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
Well, I mean I can go down the list, so
I got it on my whiteboard in front of me.
So your available free agents include Aaron Rodgers, who's on
a one year contract. Obviously they didn't do it last year.
He's forty two years old. I would find that hard
to believe they'd go that direction. Daniel Jones is in
a contract year. They've already been down that road with
him obviously in the past. Probably not going to be
(20:02):
a situation. Plus, it seems like, depending how the Colts
finish here, that they would like to retain Daniel Jones.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
But he's scheduled to be a free agent.
Speaker 9 (20:09):
Russell Wilson's a free agent, and then you got a
bunch of guys who potentially could be available in trades.
Between Kyler Murray, you know exactly what they decide to
do with him, you know, to a tongue of iloa,
the Dolphins are going to have to make some decisions
on that. If they were to try to trade him,
they would have to eat some money to, you know,
to move that contract down the gamebody else taken on
(20:31):
fifty four million dollars for Tua, and there's certainly a
possibility that they keep Mike McDaniel and keep Tua for
one more year and then you know, kind of evaluate
everything with the new general manager at the end of
twenty twenty six. You know, what happens with Gino Smith,
what happens with Kirk Cousins. You know, again, hard to imagine.
I know him and Kevin still have a really good relationship.
Hard to imagine him coming back. But that's another guy
(20:52):
who's available. Justin Fields is also available. And then you
guys mentioned some of the others. Mac Jones is certainly
in that category. So I mean, there's a bunch of guys.
None of these are perfect types of situations. And also
I thought one of the things that was instructive last
offseason was the market wasn't you know, overwhelming for the
quarterbacks that were available. And I think part of that
(21:13):
is kind of a reaction to some of the teams
that have gone big on quarterbacks, including the Falcons with
Kirk and haven't gotten their money's worth. You know, it
was a pretty soft market honestly for Sam Donald until
things went sideways in Seattle with Gino Smith, and then
the Seahawks were willing to step up with an offer
that still was, you know, a one year commitment to Donald.
He makes thirty seven and a half this year. They
(21:34):
could move on if they wanted to. I don't anticipate
they're going to, but they could move on after this season.
There wasn't like people banging down Sam Donald's door and saying,
we're going to do a market value forty fifty million
dollars per year deal. Are any of these guys getting
that type of money? What's the number on a Daniel Jones?
Those are all, you know, market based questions. But you're
right in terms of there's only maybe I would say
(21:56):
I mean, I can go through my list, but like
a dozen teams that I would say I'm pretty confident
won't do something at the quarterback position, because not only
do you have the teams that have a clear need,
but then you've got all these other teams that it's like,
what direction are they going to go on some of
these quarterbacks And it might be a all right, we're
not going to move on from our guy until we
can get somebody else in. That's all the stuff. And
(22:18):
it doesn't begin mid March with free agency. It begins
in January. It begins with you know, conversations prior to
the Super Bowl. We'll have you know, at least some
answers by the time we're out in San Francisco in
early February.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Tom Palasaragan for thanks to our friends at Bell Bank,
and we'll get you this week's charity and who nominated
and everything. I think you're gonna like it a lot, Tom.
It involves doggies, and I know you're a doggie guy,
but real quickly, so much criticism. I've even seen some
stuff nationally with people talking about who you know. Some
people are critical of the coach and the way you
(22:51):
handle the quarterback situation. But locally, I've heard a lot
of people being very critical of our general manager. I,
for one, think everybody's doing a fantastic job down at TCO.
Big fan of everybody. But nationally, for you, is there
a rumbling out there saying perhaps the GM is on
the hot seat or anybody in particular, or is it
too early in the season for that.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
I have not really heard that out there.
Speaker 9 (23:13):
You know, anytime that the team is failing to meet expectations,
and by any reasonable objective standard, the Vikings have fallen
short of expectations, you're going to have a focus, you know,
going back in hindsight, you know, the biggest thing being
the decisions made. You know, at the quarterback position, there
were multiple plans that were in place. A couple of
things won a different direction than the Vikings were anticipating.
(23:34):
They used all that leftover money to go and address
the needs they thought they had, which were the interior,
the defensive, offensive lines get bigger, get more physical. You know,
there's moves going back right Take Adam Thielen, you know,
I understand why you make that trade in August, because
you're going, you know, right now, justin Jefferson at the
time they made that trade, was just coming back from
the hamstring. Jordan Aisen's facing a three game suspension. Jalen
(23:55):
Naylor was hurt and they didn't know for sure if
he was going to be back at the beginning of
the season. You can plug and play and Adam Field,
who already knows your system. It brings leadership to the room,
It brings experience to the room. He has a relationship
with JJ mccarth. He had thrown with him in the offseason.
It just didn't work out. I mean, I don't think
that anybody would have thought when they make that trade
for feel and you're getting eight catches for sixty nine
(24:16):
yards and he's asking to be released and ends up
playing with Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh. You know, but again,
do you want a GM who's going to be aggressive
on these things? You know, trading the draft pick for
Jordan Mason. You know, Jordan Mason's been a backup running
back most of the year. But you watch them and
you're like, for a fifth round pick or whatever it
was that they sent to San Francisco, he's I mean,
I would say that he's well worth that, you know,
(24:37):
that shot. Obviously, it hasn't worked out with Ryan Kelly,
and that's not necessarily Ryan Kelly's fault. He had a
concussion history, He's had more concussions. You'd like to feel
the defensive editions a little bit more than they have,
you know. But again we can evaluate that. You can
do outcome based analysis, or you can look back in
the spring and go, you know, they're trying to go
for it with a team that won fourteen games, while
(24:59):
simultaneous trying to give a young quarterback an opportunity take
advantage of that young quarterback contract. All that stuff's again
going to be broken down in the offseason. But no,
I wouldn't say that there's an impression with the league
that the Kosi's in trouble in part because they extended
him and Kevin before the season.
Speaker 7 (25:16):
This has not been the season that anybody wanted, you know.
Speaker 9 (25:19):
But let's see kind of how they decide to proceed,
what the plans are in twenty twenty six, because there's
a lot to unpack with a team that you felt
like they had a window and now all of a
sudden you're going to be in the year three of
JJ's rookie contract next year, and how does that change
the calculus how you put together this team moving forward.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
I want to ask you about the other JJ.
Speaker 8 (25:37):
I feel like this is committing a purple sin by
even just mentioning this, because I don't want to believe it.
But I also understand the other rumors out there and
even the likes of ESPN and I'm sure you guys
at the NFL network I've talked about it, like the
idea that Justin Jefferson would want to get out of
here if he did not like the quarterback situation for
(25:57):
next year and possibly the years beyond that. So what
do you feel in your gut? What is he thinking?
What do you think ends up happening? Would Justin Jefferson
be the type of player that demands a trade.
Speaker 9 (26:10):
Listen, anybody can sit here and say, hey, we see
crazy trades Justin Jefferson? Would that really be a shock?
And that's true. Okay, there's only you know, a couple
dozen players in the entire league that are off limits
in a trade. The Bills aren't trading Josh Allen, the
Chiefs aren't trading Patrick Mahomes. It's a really short list
if you think about it. Of like who would not
be available if someone went, hey, I'll give you multiple
(26:32):
first round picks. You know, there's a financial element to
these things. There's a cap element to these things. I
would just say, you know, and Caracy said this a
couple of years ago before doing the contract, he didn't
want to be the general manager of Justin Jefferson's not
on that team. I'm slightly paraphrased. I might not have
the language right, but basically it was, if Justin's not here,
I'm not going to be the GM. We know how
the organization feels. You're paying not just for Justin Jefferson
(26:55):
the football player, but it's Justin Jefferson the brand and
the gritty and he's the identity of your franchise, and
he's the one who sells jerseys and that fans want
to see all that stuff. You'd love to say everything's
made in isolation of a football decision, but it's it's
all those things when you're doing these big time contracts
with the face of your franchise. I would reiterate something
I've said in the past, which is I can't think
(27:17):
of a lot of elite wide receivers who would handle
a season like this better than Justin Jefferson has. And yes,
you've seen times where he slams his helmet down he's
frustrated on the sideline, but you have not seen him,
you know, melting down on JJ on the sideline.
Speaker 7 (27:31):
You've not seen him going after coaches.
Speaker 9 (27:33):
He's not getting on Twitch or Instagram and posting cryptic
stuff like Justin Jefferson has done as well as you
could possibly hope.
Speaker 7 (27:42):
But when you're talking.
Speaker 9 (27:43):
About someone who has always set the standard of I
want to wear a gold jacket at the end of this.
I want to be one of the greatest wide receivers
when you feel like you're not getting those opportunities, and
you know, I had a general manager say it to
me last night, like when you see Justin run a
perfect route and it's you know, a simple out and
he's wide open and the ball whizzes by his back ear,
(28:03):
you know, yeah, you're gonna sit there and go like,
what are we doing here? But there were a lot
of you know, circumstances that went into this. If I'm
Justin Jefferson, if I'm his agent, and by the way,
it's the same agency that represents JJ McCarthy, I'm having
discussions about, all right, what is our plan moving forward? Justin,
I don't believe, is the type of guy who's going
to storm in there the day after the season and
(28:24):
say get me out. I don't want to be a
Viking anymore. But realistically, again, if you're being aggressive with
the roster, you're taking everything into account. I think that
Justin Jefferson is on that very very short list of
players that you would not trade. I would challenge you, know,
all you guys sitting there, anybody listening, like what is
the trade offer that would make sense to trade Justin Jefferson?
(28:45):
In other words, like what would have to be in
that deal? Even if it's two first round picks, which
presumably are coming from a pretty good team, is too
late Where oute first round picks enough for you to
consider trading a transcendent player who's the identity of your
entire football team.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
I'd be reluctant to do it.
Speaker 9 (29:03):
I mean, yeah, there's big time trades that happened every offseason.
It's a different NFL than it was ten years ago.
I have no doubt that the Vikings will get calls
about Justin Jefferson in this offseason.
Speaker 7 (29:16):
And you take it. There's no reason not to listen
on these things. I find it hard to believe.
Speaker 9 (29:20):
Never say never, but I find it hard to believe
that they're not figuring out a way to continue building
this thing around justin Jefferson in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Six, unless, of course, he does what DeLand did and
says I want to get out here. And I don't
see him doing that. So I get it.
Speaker 9 (29:32):
He's not in his last year. He's not you know,
thinking I don't want to I mean, listen, feeling is there.
He's chip blocking Miles Garrett more than he's being targeted. Okay,
like it's realistically. You know, Adam wanted to go someplace else.
Him and Aaron have known each other for years. I'm
excited to see him. You know, that offense that Pittsburgh runs.
I know you didn't ask me this question, but the
offense the Pittsburgh runs is very much between the numbers.
(29:55):
You know, Aaron Rodgers throwut his history has thrown a
lot of stuff outside the numbers. Get a guy who's
just a you know, a reliable type of a veteran feeling,
I'll get I would, I would venture a guess. I'm
not big in the prediction business. I would bet you
Adam Feeling has more catches over the next couple of
weeks that he is his entire time in Minnesota, just
because the opportunity is there.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
You got guys like DK Metcalf who we're going to
draw attention. The tight ends draw attention.
Speaker 9 (30:16):
You know. Maybe Adam Feeling is that kind of chain
mover that Aaron had for years with Randall Cobb. I
believe Adam's got something left. It just it didn't work
out in Minnesota. I'm excited to see him in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Again thanks to our friends of Bellbank. That's Tom Pellisero.
Tom listening to this. I'm Ngela Hardy nominated the organization
the organization My pit bull Is Family out of North
Minneapolis and the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center. Check out
My Pitbullisfamily dot org, slash n m p RC. My
pit Bulls Family is focused on ending housing and insurance
(30:48):
discrimination for all dogs, regardless of what they look like
or their perceived breed. They're more. North Minneapolis Pet Resource
Center currently helps to support the local community through the
team of volunteer advocates who assist pet loving community members
with supplies and resources to help keep pets and their
families together at home. Love those pit bulls, good doggies.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
Nailed it.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Yeah, thank you, and nominate your charity. A thousand dollars
going to that charity. Go to Keven dot Common right
in the keyword bell Bank and nominate your charity today.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Thanks Tom, Thanks guys, Thanks bell Bank.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
My buddy, he goes former baseball player Tom Pilisarius the
Power to a morning show.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
I took a bunch of pictures of Tom looking very
bored by Ben's questions.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Yep, I just like they weren't the best. But but
he tried, he.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Tried, he did exactly what I was thinking. I also
took a picture because I noticed that, like, you have
a hat on right now? Is it a like a
flex fit or does it have the little knobs on
the back.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
It's a flex fit hat.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
He had one of the little knobby ones where you
have to pick the snap backs.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Mine is always on the first hole because I have
a little head.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
His was on like the fifth hole.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
He must have a giant head, like like sauce.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Wonder what whole sauce is on?
Speaker 4 (31:58):
I have?
Speaker 2 (31:59):
I'm on the last two and you can't really see it,
but like I've thought about like an extension, like a
little piece to extent because my head is also gigantic.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
It's a big head. And you know, imagine if you
had a big, lush hair.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
And I imagine every day. I haven't seen that since
middle school. Yeah, sad, did you have lush hair? I
you know, I had a mullet way back in the day.
I can see it. That works out.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
I mean, you're from White bear Lake and you're a
hockey guy, and I like to party. That's the best
part about having hockey here in White bear Lake is
you get to basically cut it after the first round anyway,
so you know, wow, you're taking shrapnel. By the way,
speaking of Zachary Halverson, Tomorrow, one hundred and five thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Up for grabs with the initials Jackpot.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Marnie Gellner will be here, Mark Parrish will be here,
Chris Hockey will be here.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
And zach Halverson will be competitor number.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Four seventh all time and wins. I think you're six
or seventh all time in points. One of the all
time greats. I'm Zachary Halverson.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
But the heartbreak kid. We call him in initials, because all.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
He does is come close to winning majors and tournaments
and big games, and you just come up short.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Looking forward to losing that tiebreaker tomorrow. Can't wait.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
It's time for headlines brought to you by my friends
at Wolf River Electric and wolf Riverelectric dot com. Go
solar in twenty twenty five, will you sure, sure, nice lady,
or twenty twenty six whatever, as soon as possible, Wolfriverelectric
dot Com. Get a quote, get started, get her done,
(33:36):
you know, make the sun work for you, the sun.
Speaker 7 (33:39):
The sun works for me.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
The sun. I'm not greater than the sun. The sun
is greater than my past Electric bill, though.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Can I hijack your first story?
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Of course?
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Our friend John O'Hurley. Yeah, did you hear about the
try the controversy?
Speaker 7 (33:51):
I did not.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
You know how he's the dog show dude.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
He is the dog show dude.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Thanksgiving he said this about a sheep dog.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
You English sheep dog.
Speaker 10 (34:01):
Eighty pounds of hair and two pounds of actual dog.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
There.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
As I have said before, if the judge picks through
all of that hair and finds only one eye, he's
got the wrong end of the dog.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Sorry a minute, what do you mean controversy? People are mad?
Come on, that's a great line and it's not even.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Like vulgar if you're a if you're a kid, you
didn't even get that joke.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
Brilliant.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Who is mad about that? Oh god, why do we
let people bed? That's a super funny line. And again
it's the cadence right, his voice is so epic.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
What a joke. It's the best here he is, Well,
you English sheep dog.
Speaker 10 (34:40):
Eighty pounds of hair and two pounds of actual dog there.
As I have said before, the judge picks through all
of that hair and finds only one eye.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
He's got the wrong end of the dog, so good.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Come on, hilario.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Humans are whoever?
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Whoever complained about that John o' hurley line is definitely
the person that complains to their h O A.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
They probably run it, no, because then there's nobody to
complain to. That's true. Yeah, oh the people that you know,
they can complain and they can wield their power.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Yeah, But because I think that's more likely the person
that just complains to.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
The h A way but doesn't actually join the way
because hawks. His Christmas decorations are too large and they're
fringing on their yard. Did you talk to Today's Today's
National Cookie Day.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
So a whole bunch of places if you like cookies,
a whole bunch of places have deals today, so you
know who those people are.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
I'm gonna go to Sweet Martha's today.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
I like Sweet Martha. I like what's the lady makes
cookies locally here with t rex t rex man tin
is good, great stuff.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Crumbles awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
I know it's like super whatever, cliche and trendy now,
but trumbles badass.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Cookies are great. Cookies are great myself a bucket.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
I'm gonna tell you speaking that's the word. You said
that because I U when we're tomorrow America. Now they
have Nesli's Cookie Store on second floor. The lady was
making the cookie sandwiches with the white frosting in between.
I always buy one of them. It's the greatest thing
about Christmas. And I saw the big giant bucket of icing,
(36:16):
and I was like, if I had that in my house,
I would be dead in a week because I don't
think I could stop eating it even until I started
throwing up.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
It's that good for me.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
Yep, It's like we talked about a couple weeks ago
with the middle of Dairy Queen ice cream cakes. If
they just sold that just that in a bucket, I
would buy it weekly, bitchin and eventually you would have
to either burn the house down or get me out
of the house with a crane like Gilbert Grape's mom. Yeah,
I still will argue that is the person who gets
(36:46):
referenced on the show the most. That young kids must
be like, who in the sweet hell is Gilbert Grape's
mom got yep?
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yep. But if you're in your forties or fifties, you
probably watched.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
That movie and know exactly what we're talking about. For
Shohnny Depp and Leo, what's Dan Gilbert Crape mom.
Speaker 7 (37:09):
Mom mom?
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Indiana, Chris, here we go. If in Indiana pulled the
old Indiana trick, which is he no, I don't not
a different trick. Uh asked to see a guy guy's gun,
and then he asked to see ammunition. And then he
told the guy, well, now I'm keeping it. I mean
(37:34):
he's got the gun, he's got the ammo. So that's
the way he stole a guy's gun. He said, can
I see that gun?
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Mind if I see some AMMO. Sure, well now what well,
now I'm keeping this and you can't stop me. I
have a gun, and I have AMMO.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
The old classic Indiana gun theft trick, And.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
That's kind of a takeoff on the old hockey Indiana trick,
which is which is can I take a look at
that bra you're wearing? And then then they take it
off and you don't give it back?
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Man? They always fall for that.
Speaker 9 (38:08):
They do.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Motor boating.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
Over two hundred and fifty thousand cases of shredded cheese
were recalled.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Over possible blank fragments.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Okay, over two hundred and fifty thousand cases of shredded
cheese were recalled over possible blank fragments.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Fragments of glass No, just as.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Gross though similar? What is it metal? I love metal,
but not metal cheese? Oh loves metal? Well, if he'd
stop eating? Yeah, but he's so metal, all right? Jill's
(39:00):
here from pause for pause. You just mentioned the pitbull charity.
We love animals on this we do show. Can we
be adults for sixty seconds?
Speaker 7 (39:10):
Nope?
Speaker 3 (39:11):
I can give you forty five at best.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Let's see if we can be adults. Good for you, man,
I've worked on it.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
A dog in Oklahoma just broke the Guinness World Record
for the longest tongue.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Go for it. She got a h.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
A text from Uh, don't know if this is a
curn It looks like it came from a.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Lambert. She says, Oh, it's a she.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Yeah, it's female Lambert.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
One of those female Lamberts.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
What did she say up for adoption?
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Question?
Speaker 9 (40:00):
My?
Speaker 6 (40:05):
How?
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Then they have two dogs muppet in this one?
Speaker 4 (40:09):
How long this dog's tongue was or is Guinness World
record longest tongue for a dog?
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (40:18):
Man?
Speaker 2 (40:18):
The average length of a dog tongue?
Speaker 3 (40:21):
It would terrify me if you knew I was asking.
Some say something absurd like twenty four inches.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
It's two feet long. I'm gonna is this the Gomrek
from Never Any Story?
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Well, God, that's another old reference that almost nobody got.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Zachary take a shot Gene Simmons of dogs. I would say,
I'm gonna go eighteen inches. You guys are psychos.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Seven point eight inches All that's you guys are almost
two feet long?
Speaker 2 (41:00):
How long two feet is? We were in the ballpark.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
If it's a really I mean absurdly long tongue.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Vagar from Game of three Pones has a two foot
tongue and he's a freaking dragon.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Come on, man seven point eight.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Gosh yeah, reminds me of my favorite book, Trails in
the Sand by Peter Dragon.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
That's a terrible name. And this show really crash landed.
We got it that it was a home run.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Tomorrow, we believe John Cries will be here again. Marnie
Parrish misters C one hundred and five thousand dollars up
for grabs with the Saint Paul Federal Credit Union Initials
jackpot tomorrow at eight fifteen. Zach Elverson gets his heart
broken tomorrow around eight forty or so. Oh, I mean
it's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Yeah, that's what you do.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
You're gonna score three or four and loose yea. So
tune in tomorrow. Nine to noon is next. Thisscu is.
Speaker 9 (42:05):
Waiting for you.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Tube happen to stay warm now
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Have a great damn
