(00:00):
Elana Glazer. I'm so excited totalk about Babes. Congratulations on writing,
you know, writing and starring inIt's quite an achievement. But before we
do, I just have to sayto you one thing. There should have
been a spin offca Rebecca grinned. That's one of the weirdest female characters I've
(00:21):
ever seen in a movie. Iwatched The Night Before every year annually.
It's a Christmas tradition in my housewith my with my son, and your
character is your character is beyond freakand I think should have been a spin
off. I think there should havebeen a spin off of that character that
is so sweet and so funny.Thank you it's today. No, and
(00:47):
I know you weren't, and Ithink that well, I think The Night
Before it's kind of under appreciate it. I think it was at the time.
And it continues, you know, and it continues to be. And
there were a lot of very uniquecharacter but none none like yours. There
are a couple. It took melike three viewings to even get a couple
(01:07):
of the things that Rebecca Grinch actuallydid in that film. Great character.
How much say did you they did? They give you some elbow room in
there or you know, did youyeah, did they know how to make
a damn movie? You know?So they they're like so secure that they're
in it and have been doing itfor so long that they're like, you
know, they welcome people to comeand play you there. They know that
(01:32):
they can get as long as theyget that they want, They know that
they can, you know, everyeverybody's allowed to really fetch their wings.
That is larious. You know,I thought you were talking about a spin
off of Bud City, but ofthe Night Before Charle. I love it.
Great character. I mean, she'sa thief in the night, the
(01:52):
way you run off like a thiefin the night, shouting from after like
jumping off a building. Is thereis there one thing that you actually recall,
like, hey, Vin, Ibrought that. Yeah, I came
up with that idea in the bathroomthat I would do this or do you
recall anything where you were like thatwas my idea? Not even a millisecond
(02:14):
of really do what I mean,it's like so long ago, it is,
it is deep. And I onlyask because here you are writing and
you know, creating characters, andyou know, and Babes looks hilarious.
But it's also sensitive subject matter too. It's tough, you know, it's
(02:35):
a tough subject to mind for laughs, right right, yeah, you know,
people have been we've been getting thelass that we expected, but then
people are really surprised that they're cryingin the during the movie. And I'm
loving it getting a big old ball, a ball of big old fasties in
the theater. I'm loving that partof seeing the reactions from babe. Yeah.
(03:00):
As a guy, I've got Imean, I'm an old man now,
I'm fifty six years old. Butas a guy, it's quite chilling
in the trailer to see your characterssay, how am I pregnant in the
middle of my period? And it'slike that can still happen. That would
have greatly changed my twenties greatly,Yes, dude, yeah, and it's
(03:23):
something that I forget now, youknow. And then my husband went out,
you made the movie, you knowwhat the rules are, and I'm
like, oh, you're right, you're right, right, yeah, yeah,
chilling, hilarious. Yeah, nowthis is you know, pro but
I mean, you're promoting it.It opens this weekend. I can't wait
to see it. My daughter,I have a daughter, too. We
(03:44):
were actually cracking up. The trailerkind of came out of nowhere about a
month back and we were cracking upthrough it. But does it's sad?
Thank you so much? Oh yeah, but does it come from you know,
a sad place? Uh, youknow, a friend who's been through
something similar, wasn't expecting and uhuh you know like that that that part.
(04:09):
So like, this movie's about twobest friends. One one played by
Michelde John has two kids and ahusband. And then her friend Eden me
is like a free spirit who youknow, is spontaneous and gets pregnant and
totally naive to the responsibilities of parenting. And I gets pregnant by one this
(04:30):
night, Standard decides to keep thebaby, and it's test their friendship.
So the baby part, you know, when I was writing this, I
was pregnant. My co writer JoshUbinois was his wife was pregnant, and
we wrote this with our producer SudieBobson. She had a one and a
three year old. All the babystuff, all the baby making stuff,
all the new parenting stuff that wasthat was really like an easy, like
(04:53):
list of really hilarious stuff that weput together. But I think the emotional
part. Actually more comes from howyour friendships change during this period and how
you know things shift and there's acertain ton of loss of that friendship that
you don't get back. And that'sthat I think was also from us and
what we had experienced and were experiencingon both sides, So it really comes
(05:18):
from us. That's wild. Ihate to steal Thunder here, but I
mean as a guy, I wentthrough that with lifelong friends of my own
became became parents, and now thereare some guys I ran with for thirty
five forty years and we don't talkat all anymore. It's amazing because I
(05:42):
threw myself. You know, onewill throw themselves completely into parenthood. The
other throws themselves completely into making friendswith all their kids, friends, parents
and nights out, and then suddenlyyou're not seeing each other anymore, right,
right, and you're not still inthunder at all, like the male
characters in our movie. Like,I just appreciate you sharing it, because
(06:05):
I think this movie is for everybody, and it is. Really it is
raunchy, but it does feels tome like a family movie. It certainly
feels like friends should go see theother. But couples, you know,
because you know, men are Ithink men. I probably honestly think male
characters are often underdeveloped and their experiencearound friendships changing in this area is not
(06:31):
not still covered either. And yeah, I hear you. It's it's it's
something that's sort of just happened, and you don't know what kind of parent
or friends you're going to be.You just kind of discover it as you
go. And it's it's tough. It's tough to lose friends in that way.
Oh, it was one of thetoughest. Two guys. I never
thought I would. I would, you know, lose in my life two
(06:54):
buddies of mine and and and they'velong since been gone. They've been gone
for years now. And I canhear it too that you're really close to
your kids, Like it's not likeit's my crew, that's my crew.
Yeah, it sounds like you hadthe space for friendship that that it just
didn't work out. Yeah, theseother people have space. Yeah again where
(07:15):
I'm with Elena Grays or the moviesBabes. It opens this weekend, but
it looks to me like, atleast here in Connecticut, it's hitting even
more theaters next weekend. So theexpansion is you know, uh, it's
already in full effect. But quickquestion for you before we let you go.
So it's a one night stand, you should have gone with Anthony Mackie.
Nice throwback for the night before. She would have done it, you
(07:41):
know one, I mean, whogot the unless that's a sizable role.
I don't know if the one,if the guys, is he a sizeable
role in the film or do Ihave to go and see it? You're
honestly, Vinnie, You're going tobe shocked at what happened and how hard
felt it is. I babes intheaters today, standing war theaters next weekend.
(08:01):
You go love it. I loveit, and you're a babe.
Whether you like me saying that ornot, I love it. I'm a
big fan. Congratulations with the movie, and I hope it performs.
