Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dave Bray, what's going on, brother? How are you my man?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm doing well, Man, doing well. Corridor call this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Yeah, I'm glad to get you back on the show.
It's been a long time. I don't even know if
I'm in touch with you. The missus. I'm in touch
with Becky far more than Dave.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's all good, man, it's all good.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
She takes care.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
She's that what we call mission control around here.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
She is makes sense because I had a little bit
of catching up to do since the last time we spoke,
and what you're up to, And that's when I found
the latest cover Hallelujah. What a jib okay? Unbelievable? What
you know? You had so much success National Anthem never,
you know, star Spangled banner and God bless America? What

(00:41):
made you go to Hallelujah? It's an interesting choice, you know.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
It was one of those things that I was asked
to sing Hallelujah concerns. The police Survivors asked me to
sing the song Hallelujah at one of their fundraisers. And
I'm sitting there learning the song and learning the song
and learning the song, and you know, I wanted to
do one that I just felt like it wasn't as
fitting as it could be, so I did a rewrite.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
That's what I was going to say. I mean, we're
both rock fans at the end of the day. I mean,
that's a Leonard Cohen. A lot of people think Hallelujah
it's this reverential, you know, prayer fueled. It's actually quite
quite an opus that song. It's about something. He's saying
Hallelujah for a wildly different reason, so it would necessitate

(01:26):
some tweaking to the lyrics.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
It's a dissemination of the human condition, right, So it's
failure at its finest.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Well said, maybe the most challenging of all the covers vocally, No.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Well, Hallelujah, Like like you said, it's a very it's
a personal song, so it has to sound very intimate,
I think, or you lose a listener. And that was
probably probably the capture of the recording was the hardest
thing because it's a live guitar all the way through,
and it's a live vocal all the way through, and
you know, there's there's flaws in it. But I think
as far as the capture, as far as the actual

(01:57):
troup recording we did really well in capturing that intimacy
swearing an oath but not really feeling like a hero
by the way you're treated in public, you know, missing
your family's important events, important dates, because of sure higher calling.
And that's what you know. The opening line is, you know,
I heard there was an ancient call to hold the
line and protect them off. But you don't think that

(02:20):
you're a hero, do you? You know. So it's like
it has a lot of the same timber, It has
a lot of the same meter as obviously the Leonard
Code version.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
But I just think it's special former serviceman yourself, you know,
and Navy veteran. And it's interesting my crash course in
Dave Bray was the national anthem was Madison Rising, you know,
which now feels like a lifetime ago. Were two solo
records away from that. How did you make the transition

(02:48):
from not that you necessarily did, but you wanted to
celebrate you. Like it says on your website, you consider
your music on a mission. It's a continuation of your service.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
The media chooses what to report, just like they do
in any other conflict. And I think I think when
if you look at what our veterans. I know when
I was overseas and we were in a very small
theater operational serve response versus mostly humanitarian effort. You know,
we look at that as you know, you're on for
four hours, offful four hours, and then you're back on

(03:19):
a ship for you know, two weeks, and then you're
in country for two weeks. So look at that duty
and then you know, you do your six months or
seven months, nine months, and then you come home and
then you're then you're then you're at a home duty
station or a home base. Okay, yeah, you know I
served four years. I got out at dot dot dot.
These guys are doing thirty years on the job of
every single day, and I just think it needs to

(03:41):
be it needs to be uh, it needs there needs
to be more awareness to it. But you brought up
music Go on a Mission. Music Going a Mission is
where we started this whole thing. After Madison Rising, I
wanted to do something that was patriotic, state based, and
anybody wants to find out about it is Dave where
