Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Jamie, we got you.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hello, we got you.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
How's that sound Jamie lissoo? And I am I pronouncing
right Lisso.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'll be honest with you, I say Lisso, but maybe
I've been saying it wrong.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
No, No, I'd go with you.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Because Gutfeld has been saying lissoo. Yeah, and I was.
I was on a radio show for like five years,
and for the first couple of weeks, every day I
corrected the guy to Lisso, but he never changed it. Yeah,
and so I answer to both yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Well, but my producer is a big fan of yours
and that's how he said it too. And I've you know,
I see you on Gutfeld. Gutfeld's my man, but I
don't want to spend too much of my time talking
about that. That's got to be uh you you've you've
all got one of a couple of my boys. I mean,
in addition to Guttfeld, the late great Norm McDonald's. Do
you do you have Norm stories?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
You know what? Man? I feel like, to be completely honest,
I was always like with someone when we were with Norm. Yeah,
he was never like my direct friend. I got to
spend like some very good time with him. With you know,
Rob Schneider, and then I did a dinner with This
is total name drop, but I'm just going for it

(01:06):
with a Sandler Schneider spade, like on an Adam Sandler tour.
And he one of the last projects he did was
our show on Netflix, Real Rob. It was one of
the last things that he did. Yeah, and I have
never I was not in the scene. I was behind
the scenes. I was a producer on that show. It
was the first time I ever ruined a take by

(01:29):
laughing because he was so funny, well dying, like he
kept ad libbing, and I was just like, I could
not handle it. So funny.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Well also because you know it's dry, it was usually
shocking and it usually took what thirty seconds to be like.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Did he really say that? I mean, that's that's.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Unbelievable what he just said. I was first introduced him
on SNL when he just delivered the worst thing about
a prison for me, you know, would be the annual run.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You know, I remember there he goes on.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
It took me about the seconds.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah. He was doing a weekend update once and I
will never forget this, and he said Madonna was upset
because the paparazzi took a picture of her nursing her baby,
and he said, Madonna is really really angry because she says,
apparently that the baby was blocking her nipple. E it's
a master man.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
There was Actually I've actually got a Norm story that
you would appreciate. And again we're with Jamie Lisso, who's
he's coming to town. He first stand up comedy tour.
I hear that that at the very least, he's bringing
you to Hartford, Connecticut to the Funny Bone on July thirteenth.
But you're a very busy guy. You'll appreciate the move.
The screenwriter in you, I will appreciate this because I know,

(02:45):
I know you wrote Daddy Daughter Trip with my man
Rob Schneider. I had Schneider on, I had Norman there,
come on. Yeah, they were all coming through town. I
couldn't get sand which, which of course makes sense. But
I was excited to get Norm mcdonaldnald because.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
A movie is a movie I.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Had written a million years ago.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
I'd only written a few but it did finally like
get made like a lifetime later.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
You know how the machine, how it goes.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Sometimes something you declared dead it comes back to life
like eight years later and you're like, damn, that's greenplay
still kicking around. Hollywood can take its sweet time.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
So this movie that I happened.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
A million percent A million percent. Yeah, well so very
very I would like to give you accolades for getting
that done, because that is a ya, that's a common story.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Well I do from it.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
You know that I had sold it and the guy
who you know was attached to direct it, he just
he was a dog with a bone. He got the
Farley brothers involved, Chris Farley's brothers, and he made it.
He made it happen like ten years later. And Norman
McDonald played a character that I created. So you know,
get Norm on the show and I'm like, you know, Norm,

(03:52):
I set it up really dramatically too, Jamie. I'm like,
you were in a movie. I created a character.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
What movie is that?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Chris Catan was even in it too, So I tell
him the name of the movie and he goes, oh, yeah, yeah,
and you know that's about it, and I'm like, you know,
it was just an honor for you to play a
character that I created.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
He goes, yeah, yeah, that was awful.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
He just had I don't know why but it killed me.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
It actually was.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I mean, it became an awful movie. And I like
to tell people JB. I distanced myself and I'm like,
I was dumb with I mean, that wasn't my draft.
I mean I wrote the original draft and it got gutted.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
But he goes, yeah, yeah, that was awful.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
You're a precant of the choir. I will not mention
the name of it, but I had a movie where
I was so proud of this movie and it was
it got help being punched up by somebody that you
and I have already mentioned. That's just like a really
really great writer. And then at any part of the
process there can mistakes can be made that you have

(04:58):
no control over it. And I had that happen with
a movie and it just it absolutely sucks as you've
poured your heart and soul into it. So I know
that someone just asked me, we're doing The Animal too.
I like me.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
And I'm all about that.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
And it's the sequel to that movie, to Schneider's The Animal.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
That's tremendous.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah, we sat down and we thought to ourselves, what
does nobody want to see?

Speaker 3 (05:18):
No, I mean that's like Joe Dirt too. It came
out like eleven years later and people were all about it.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, I do. And honestly the new movie. The reason
I brought it up, said, I think you get it
is that I just did an interview and the guy said,
because you know, like somebody at Fox do Be loved
Drop Schneider loved the Animal wanted the sequel. They approached
us to write it, and we wrote it, and it's
like it's cool, man, Like, I think we have a
good idea. It's basically the Dog's old now and Rob
all of the stuff that used to help him be
a policeman when he had the animal parts in the

(05:48):
old movie don't work anymore. First scene, it's like he's
on a crime scene. The only clue is like a
footprint in the sand, and Rob peas all over it
because he has no control over his bowels. He gets
fired like it was super funny, but this I just now.
He goes, when's the Animal two coming out? And I go, dude,
I don't know. Like if you had asked me yesterday,
I would have told you. But today it's different, sure,

(06:08):
and tomorrow might be different.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I don't exactly right.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I don't trust anything. Yeah, until I am watching it
on a screen, I don't know anymore. I just don't
know anymore. Just you know, you know, it's that machine.
You don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Oh yeah, and they kept attack.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I had another screenplay after that one where it would
be really exciting. They would be like, you know, guess
who's attached right now. At one point it was Sam Rockwell,
like pre oscar Win, and then you know, it went
from Sam Rockwell to I can't think of it Jason Schwartzman,
I believe, And then you just stop.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
And then you just stop telling.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
People because you're like, well, you know, the lead keeps changing,
and people outside the business they don't realize that. Sometimes
this celebrity will sit down and say, you know, this
screenplay was first written thirty years there's movies coming out
right now that like Steve McQueen was looked at a
copy of the script, but Brad Pitt is playing their

(07:01):
role now, I could take forever.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Man, what's it like?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:04):
You never know what's it like for you?

Speaker 3 (07:06):
I mean you you're really funny with difficult subjects, the
kind of subjects that Schneider takes hits for.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Why do you think that is?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Do you think it's because Schneider, Well, you know you're beloved,
you were on SNL. You're not supposed to talk about
serious stuff. Do you think it's more about why do
you think you get away with it?

Speaker 2 (07:28):
So that's I think you have a good point there.
I think it is. I remember when I first toured
with Schneider. My first job was opening for Rob Schneider,
and so my favorite part of his career was watching
people that came to see that you can do it guy,
and just him being just polarizingly political and why people
get upset and walk im just not knowing. Now people

(07:51):
kind of know what to expect, so he got he
has his own audience. But man, that transition period was
absolutely hysterical to watch. And of course Rob Blake, you know,
you know, he's fine with it, like he's not like
upset by people not agreeing with what he's saying. I
also think to give Rob credit and take some credit
away from myself. I am joke first. My priority is jokes,

(08:11):
and I think with Rob he does have points, and
he does have very strong opinions and viewpoints. I don't
really have so much. Like my goal is to just
sidestep the issue and make a silly joke. Even on
gutfalt super intense topic about you know, immigration, it's and
it's hard to make jokes about that stuff. No one
wants to do, you know. It's like knock knock, who's there, rapist?
You know, it's not that funny. And so I feel

(08:33):
like that's my in my head. I always think to myself,
if I come up with it, I go, man, I
got a really good point on this subject, and I go,
I do a really funny joke. Though I always do
the joke. I just always do the joke. And so
I think by putting like the like you know, I
Rad has a little more instilled. He really does have
a message to get out there, and that's like his thing,

(08:53):
and he's also smart of me, and I just go,
I just go funny first. And that's I think. How
there's nobody from either side of po politics that I
would come to my show and not have a good time.
I can say that with confidence, like no one's gonna
feel stupid, no one's gonna feel like they're on the
other team. I really do think about ninety percent of
the people might know who I am, but ten percent

(09:14):
that are coming to the show, They got babysitters, they
came to the show, they bought tickets. And so my
goal really is too I love so many people that
disagree with me politically, and so I want all all
of us to come together and find common ground and
have a good time. I don't know if that's really
what I do, but it sounded good.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, it sounded great.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
And if I'm to run with the name of the tour,
better Off Dad, which is very clever, I had one
called Dad to the Bone.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
And my you know, oh well that's awesome.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I love that, but better Off Dad sounds to me
like the content you're staring Clara headlines and there's tons
of you got three kids, tons of material in that, dude,
tons of material.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
And currently I am actually, this is probably bad to
be doing a press tour during this, but I'm actually
on my honeymoon and I got married on Saturday, and
uh so my whole life, you know, comedy sort of
echoes what's going on in your life. Those kids are
and my wife are such a priority over those headlines.
They get all stressed out, and so my comedy is now, dude,

(10:13):
you want to hear what I did I we actually
did a got married Saturday and we are currently on
a honeymoon, but we made it a kid focused honeymoon
because we're both bringing kids into the relationship and uh,
you know, oh, thank you, Mike. I really appreciate it
and not be all, you know, soft, but we we
ended up doing with the kids and it's just been
it's been just having all the kids here has just

(10:35):
been absolutely it's just been awful.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Where are you Where hard I'm in.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
I am in California right now.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
What I mean the honeymoon is, yeah, you're in Pasadena. Like,
I'm almost on the kid's side. You're not in Hawaii.
What kind of a honeymoon is this? You're in Pasadena.
These kids are like, is this our future? You're our
new siblings. We're in Pasadena. I might be on their side, Jamie.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I didn't think about, yeah, we're gonna go somewhere like
o maha. But we were like, let's step it up.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
You know, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
This second marriage doesn't sound promising if I'm being honest,
but I'm miserably divorced from uh.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Recently, so I'm I'm.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Very sorry to hear that. I will say I'm gonna
tell you something. I'm a kiddy. There's a light of
the tunnel. It is meant to be. I'm gonna talk
to you any year, and you're gonna be like this is.
We're both better off. Everyone's better off. There's always a
light at the end of the tunnel. But unfortunately a
lot of times that you're actually the flashlight. They're gonna
take more of your stuff.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Better off, Dad, I love it.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
But man, I'm gonna be at that show July thirteenth,
Hart for the Funny Bolls.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Hey, come on, come and before or after, I'd love to.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Talk to you absolutely or and I can't wait for
the Animal Too. Man continued success. Congratulations, and you know,
take all the whole new family out to Applebee's tonight.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
That'll turn things around, I really will.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
And the Animal Too either comes out tomorrow or never.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I'll keep people down down, I'll keep people posted.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
All right, Thanks, my friend, I appreciate having a good morning.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Take care of Bud.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
We'll talk to you
