Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dan. Do we have you?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Yes, sir, how are you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Vinie Penn Project. Pronounce that last name
for me, Dan Mulkinson. Dan Mulkinson couldn't get farther from
Angus Young.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yes, indeed, Dangus.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
So nobody's from Australia. Just lovers of ac DC.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm with you, yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Although the lead singer who's.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
On lead vocals, Tony Sittler.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Where's he from? Where are you guys from?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah? So we are all. Tony was originally born in Enfield, Connecticut,
but he actually moved down here close to me in
Pennsylvania in the last maybe ten fifteen years or so,
so he's living in PA now, but he is a
Connecticut native.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Thought that's great to hear too. And you're playing at
small Batchsellers this coming Sunday, four o'clock in the afternoon.
It's going to be insane, man. I don't know if
you know anything about the venue. It's a winery in
North Aven, Canetia. So you'll be outside, I mean, weather permitting,
and it's going to be packed and the music of
ac DC. I gotta be honest, I can't imagine small

(01:12):
batch of Sellers is such a gem. But I mean
it's really a residential neighborhood. I mean a C D
C from four to seven on a Sunday. I'd love
it in my neighborhood. There are going to be some
homeowners who are like, is are they singing let me
put my love into you right now?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Indeed, I love it. Man, I just looked at on
setlist dot Com. I looked at Back in Black. I'm
assuming that. I mean, there could be others. Do you
know if you're the only you know, back in Black
a true ac DC tribute band.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
I think we are the only ones that are exactly
like that. There are some that spell it different like
back and into in and you know there are there
are song variations, but I believe we are the only
back in Black.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Okay? Uh So I hopped on set list, which I
don't know if I've ever done for a band at
small Batchsellers before. It's just it's always a great time.
But you know, ac DC sacred to me and what
I saw, Man, you guys give ever if it's you guys,
and if you even know what I mean by set list,

(02:26):
you guys are doing. The set list was unbelievable doing
every song a fan could want.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, yeah, we we do pride ourselves on that, you know,
we we do the hits, sure, but we also we
love doing songs that you know you'll never hear a
c DC do. Probably no one's heard ac DC do
in some some select circumstances.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
You know.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
We love giving people the experience of what they heard
on the record that may not have as to hear
alive in any other in any other way. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yeah, and let Me put My Love into You is
one of those. I mean, I don't know my generation.
I remember back in Black, you know, getting the actual
vinyl and it's like, holy cow, it could have been.
I want to say it was the first where I
was like, I like every song on both sides of
this record. I mean that it's absolutely And then we
started a couple of years of getting a lot of

(03:25):
records like that. I mean, I'm fifty eight years old.
I don't know how old you are, Dan, Yeah, yeah,
so you're a young guy. It's just amazing too, the
way that Brian Johnson came on his first record, he's
replacing Bond Scott. Their voices are similar and yet not
really but that record just every song and let Me

(03:46):
put My Love into You for the most part. I mean,
that wasn't a single. That's kind of a deep cut,
and there it was in this netlist. The only thing
I would say is, what do you guys do anything
off the more recent records like Power Up or something,
because those were solid records by a CDC.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, yeah, we do too off Power Up on a
regular basis. We do demon Fire and Shot in the Dark.
Those are the two that we dynamite that we do
off off Power Up. And Yeah, I mean, like you
said that, that was a solid record, especially especially when
you consider it was put out by a couple of

(04:23):
seventy year old guys.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah. Yeah, uh it's it's and and they're still at it.
When did you guys decide that's who you were gonna
you know, that was the band that you were going
to perform their entire catalog because you were probably looking
at it. I mean, I would imagine you guys are rocking.
I would imagine you could have done a Judas Priest
cover band, could have done maybe some iron Iron made

(04:47):
it seems challenging. Yeah, uh, when did you decide, hey,
let's go with a c d C.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah, so I I was actually not part of that decision.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Okay, sorry about that. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah. The band started in nineteen ninety when I was
one and a half years old, so needless to say, okay, yeah,
they have been. It was Miguel, our bass player, who
came up with pretty much the entire premise of what
the band was going to be. And once he had
his vision, then that's when he reached out a few

(05:25):
other guys. We only have one other original member at
this point, and that's our singer. Our singer and the
bass player were the two original singer and bass player.
The other guys have have come in a little bit later.
I personally came into the band in twenty fifteen. But yeah,
as far as how I was sided on to do

(05:45):
ac DC, I think I think Miguel just saw the
great music first of all that they've recorded and what's
involved in an ac DC live show and the theatrics
that are involved with that, and said, I think this
is a really good idea to try to go ahead
and duplicate this and that that's what they've been doing
ever since, and I'm I'm honored to be a part

(06:07):
of it.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Oh. I mean to get to play that and play
that catalog. I can't imagine tiring of it. And I
was in touch with Miguel at first, uh and ultimately
I think he said he had to go out of
town and then then he said, I'll connect you with Dan.
He's basically angus now. And I mean, are you doing

(06:30):
the whole who got to work out? Then? Are you
coming out? You're not coming out in like a little
schoolboy outfit? Are you? And skill? Certainly this show is
gonna be a blast, and you're gonna move. You know,
I saw a I only saw a c DC once
they did deliver. I'll give it up to him. It
was a while back. I was probably the nineties. And

(06:51):
I mean he never he never stopped, man, he he
just never. He was never static. He was never still.
So I don't know if you you do that as well,
But that's that would I do. That's exertion. And and
you're gonna be on a small stage compared to he's
a you know Madison Square Garden right right.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, we have played some and that is that's always
an adventure for that very reason. You know, I'm trying to,
like you said, never stop, you know, that's that's pretty
much the the m O. When it comes to the
stage movement said, you know when you're playing on a
stage the size of a postage stamp, which we have before. Sure,

(07:33):
but I you know, we make it work. We are
If there's one thing other than you know, our music
making that we are experts at is just making it work,
you know, being resourceful and taking the handword dealt and
making the very most of it.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I got distracted by the set list because I thought
I saw who made who on there? But it's not.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah, maybe we do who made who?

Speaker 1 (07:59):
You do do that one? How about anything off Black Ice?
Do you do anything off Black Ice?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Rock and Roll Train? I think that's the only one
we do all Black Ice tremendous.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I love that song, but I mean, obviously I don't
think I love rock and roll dream too off Black
and Ice. I thought that was a great song off
the I vividly remember buying that one. I mean, I
could just get into the trenches with you on this
stuff all day long. You guys touring a lot? Do
you play often?

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah? As a matter of fact, the last three weekends
we played four shows, so we've played top shows in
the last three weeks.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Now the summertime, that is our busiest time of the year.
But we never have a lull.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
You know.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
We tried ourselves on being busy and getting out there.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
And how often do you do like afternoon shows like this,
we're getting you, Like I said, four o'clock in the afternoon, four,
so well maybe you'll probably come on around five.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah, we I would break over the summertime. Yeah, Like
just we played an outdoor show down by me in
Pennsylvania that was that was an afternoon show that we
did an afternoon show in Atlantic City. But yeah, generally,

(09:22):
I would say most of the time we're playing evening
or nighttime shows. But you know, afternoon show isn't a
totally foreign concept to us.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
No, I love them. I love these, uh these Sunday
shows at small batchsellers and man, when I first saw
that there was going to be an A C. D
C one, you know, before I knew the name, you know,
back in black, which is the way to go. Although
I don't know if I uh, you know, it's like
I'm just a geek. I'm just such an ac DC,
you know, I don't know if if I had mine.

(09:50):
My band might be called jail Break. I don't know,
it could be Thunders. Yeah, rock, there's so many great
ways to go. They're just one of a kind band
and you know, you're blessed to be able to perform
that catalog, I think, and I think it's going to
be a madhouse on Sunday and I look forward to
meeting you. Yeah, it is. It's just going to be
a great, great day of rock and roll, evening of

(10:13):
rock and roll because the catalog is just that Dan
and we got Endfield Zone on vocals, so it's it's
just going to be uh, it's a homecoming too, so
that's awesome. Ye. And we'll see you at small Batchsellers
in North Haven this coming Sunday. Thanks for taking the
time today,
