Speaker 1 (00:00):
Melvin Greg, how you doing? Man? Oh man, you got
you got something good cooking now the paper? Uh peacock.
Is it safe to say I'm wrong with Melvin Greg.
Is it a reimagining of the Office or what? So?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I wouldn't say as a reimagining, the Office still exists.
This is a They don't like the term spin off,
but it is a it's a show that exists in
the same world. So, okay, connecting tissue. The connecting tissue
is the documentary clue is the same documentary crew scran
Ohio and Ohio from scran and and Oscar Nunez. He's

(00:42):
also a connecting tissue.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, is going to be in there. Everybody was so
frigging funny. Is going to be popped in all right?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
And he's great, Yeah, so good.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
How about the fact that Krasinski just has this huge
career now and all I really did on that show
was make that funny face into the camera, Liken, you
can you believe that it's really all I did? And
now he's this huge Hollywood, you know, heavy hitter. Rightfully,
So though everybody that cast is so funny, I wanted
to say to you too, Melvin Greg You've been involved

(01:18):
in a lot of great projects. You know. I look
at your resume. FX's Snowfall, tremendous series. I was actually
a huge fan of Unreal on Lifetime, believe it or not.
I mean, I watch that whole series. It's a great show.
You are in the way back a really kind of
underappreciated Ben Affleck movie. So I'm looking at you and
it's like, this guy's up and coming, and right now

(01:39):
he's about to pop the paper is probably you know,
it's going to get a lot of talk, and all
it has to do to do is, you know, is
just deliver those same laughs. And you're so I'm looking
at your resume and it's like, I see not only
a Sharknato movie. I have the creator of the Sharknados there.

(02:00):
I have them out all the time all I used
to when they would come out every year. But you
were actually in the one that me and my kids
still laugh about, Sharknado three. Oh hell no, what the
hell did you do? That movie? Bore? But why did
you not pass that over here? You got a great run,
the great resume here. You gotta get that out off

(02:21):
of your Wikipedia.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Man, you can't I've tried. I've tried, but you can't.
And there's some things that are as bad as Shargnado,
but Shargnado is the most popular one. So when that
people they're drawing to. But it was the beginning. Yeah,
so that was you know, that was the beginning of
it all. That was before anything kind of wanted. I
wanted to be on a movie set, and it was

(02:42):
like and my team was like, oh, there's a lot
of people in Sharknado. Everyone loves Sharknado's a classic. So
I'm like, a few days, I'll go.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
But yeah, it was crazy. Like I watched Salt and
Papa get killed off on there, Like it's amazing. People
the lead singer of Motley Crue got to eat in
by a lying shark on there. It's just crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah. Typically typically you go at the end of your career. Yeah,
I just went.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
That's what I'm saying. It's like, there's no reason it's
a place for cameos. You're an up and coming guy.
I mean, you're not only an actor to a writer,
producer and involved in a lot of really interesting projects too,
even that Fright Night one. I've been wanting to get
around to that one too. I didn't realize that was
you know, I was a huge fan of the uh,

(03:28):
I mean fight Night. Excuse me, I didn't realize that
was executive produced by Kevin Harp. I missed out along
the way, and that's been getting a lot of buzzs. Yeah. Yeah,
So were you a fan of The Office? Like, can
you say, like that was that a show? You what?
You couldn't have watched it when you're a young guy
when it was originally airing? Did you binge watch it afterwards?

(03:49):
Did you binge watch it once you got this gig?
Or maybe not at all? Maybe you're staring clear of it. Nah?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
No, So I didn't watch it when it originally air
but I definitely watched it and caught up one, you know,
everything that was going on because it was a huge show,
so it was like, let me see see what it's about.
So I definitely was a fan of the show. I
wasn't a super fan, like I run into fans that,
you know, it's unreal, they know every episode, every season,
every scene is crazy. But I was definitely a fan

(04:15):
of the show. But once I booked it, I kind
of steered clear of it because I didn't want to
unconsciously try to recreate moments from the originally.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Do you have a favorite character from the Office, I.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Mean Steve Corell. Steve Corell has always been like fort
ye old version is like one of my favorite movies
of all time. And I love how he's able to
do uh comedy and drama.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
So yeah, yeah, what he the character he created there,
I mean it just holds up to this day. Everybody
on there's really good. You know who I was a
real fan of was Robert California. Uh, that's a deep
cut for you, but that's when James Spader showed up
in the end. Robert California. I thought he was a

(05:02):
really funny character. Tell us about your character, who are
you playing and you gotta you gotta have your quirks?
Nobody there? Well, I guess maybe Pam. Pam was probably
the straightest character on that show. So tell us about
your character on the paper from.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
My character is that chick? He's a he's just really
talking about his quirks. He's kind of kind of offbeat,
a little Awkward's kind of like a people pleaser. He's
just trying to figure out where he's fits in and
how he can be a best service to everybody around him,
and he he infatuated with this character played by Ramona

(05:38):
Young character Nicole, and he's just kind of head over
heels and and he's striking out. He's striking out bad
and sending them down a spiral of of failures. Yeah,
trying to get it. But it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, so you guys might be the new gym and
Pam maybe.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I mean, I don't want to put that on it,
but uh, we definitely have a situationship that. Yeah, it's
unfolding pretty early.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Where's the setting too of the paper? Like you said,
scrant in the office everybody. I mean, it turned it
almost into a tourist destination. And I mean what a
bleak town Stranton is too. It's just there's nothing to
do with that town, which was kind of the punchline
of the show. Where's the Paper sat?

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah, just as random isn't Toledo?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Okay, Yeah, that's why you said, Ohio, all right, Yeah
that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
But it's been on Peacock for for a month now.
The reception is great, people love it.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Waitte.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
They decided is.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
NBC and it premieres on NBC in just a matter
of days. It's the paper. Yeah, it's Melvin Greg. When
they write your you know, after your storied career towards
the end, when they write the order of the biography,
it's going to be Melvin Greg. Oh hell no, that
should be the name of the book. I love it.

(06:59):
Congratulate relations with it. Hope you get a season two
as well.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
We already got a season two. We started January.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Oh damn, man, I'm behind on everything. That's great news.
I'm glad to hear that. So then you obviously delivered.
And the bar was high too, so that says something
and you obviously delivered. Congratulations man, and I can't wait
to check it out and just keep doing what you do.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Appreciation.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Have a good with all right, Melvian
