Speaker 1 (00:00):
It being October. First, let's take a look at some
of the laws that take effect today. Here's what you
need to know. As the seasons change, so too do
many laws in the state of Connecticut. That's literally how
one write up begins. I don't know why you would
get all dickenzie in about it. As surely as the

(00:21):
leaves fall, we will continue to not enforce the laws
already on the books and add new ones that we
won't enforce either. Okay, so the first is one I
just keep hearing about everywhere, and I don't really know
what to make of it. And I've got a lot
of feelings about e bikes. It's helmet time writers. Under sixteen,

(00:43):
you're banned from riding them altogether. That's categorized now by
the status class three. They travel up to twenty eight
miles an hour. One of my questions last night that
made a lot of noise is being addressed to. It's
even up on the TV right now. The new law
to crack down on street takeovers. I don't even know

(01:05):
what to make of. Oh, I say it against the
lawna now will stop. I don't really know what to do.
But towns and cities are empowered to take more action
against street takeovers under this new law that begins today.
I did ask this of the mayor because he claims

(01:25):
things are in the throes of being erected that would
make street takeovers impossible, like speed bumps, more speed bumps,
stuff like that. Yeah, stuff that would make spin outs
in these vehicles. And that to me, and I just
thought to myself, I mean, that's something, you know, like
the wrong way signs. I don't know, we'll see it's

(01:47):
And I'm all about, hey, let's try this. But if
street takeovers are largely stolen vehicles you're in, do you
really care about speed bumps, you know, and things that
are going to make your money. I don't think so so.
And I don't want to be nice. Try you're coming
up empty. I want to see these and they're terrifying.

(02:09):
One of my biggest fears is my daughter rolling up
on one of them. My son rolled up on one
of them. I never shared that story in here. He
saw it far enough in the distance and managed to
avoid it altogether. I was out Milford Way, where there's
been quite a few. I mean, they're happening in all
of our towns. The law allows municipalities excuse me to

(02:32):
create their own ordinances to punish those who organize and
participate in street takeovers. Those who gather to observe too
said all along, and you can't what we don't like
you watching either can be penalized under this new law.
The new law also increases the license suspension times for

(02:53):
street takeover offenders. Again, they got to have a license
for that to be. They got to own. Okay, so
you're in real trouble if you own the car and
have a driver's license and hair legally and get caught.
There's a whole lot of things have to line up

(03:15):
in order for these new laws to really bite you
on the ass. Number three new law today, Damn damn it.
And I called Rachel all day yesterday. First cousin marriages
are over? Is that why she was daunting me yesterday?
I've loved her ever since we were little kids, our

(03:39):
mothers being sisters. Be damned her being a lesbian, Be damned. Rachel,
love you. I do love my cousin, Rachel. First cousin
marriage is that crazy thing? Heven's that do? Right here?
After one of the more humorous and headline grabbing debates
of the two thousand, if I have a legislative session, Connecticut

(04:02):
has decided to pass a bill banning first cousin marriage
in Connecticut and the potential children with webbed feet and
webbed hands and a tail that could result. Connecticut previously
had no law banning such relationships. Were love who you

(04:22):
want to love? Who cares? Ah if your mother his
father are brother and sister. Handcuffs on children. Police prohibited
from using handcuffs on children under fourteen. You know, you'd
think that would be a given, but you watch video
footage in this day and age and the way that

(04:47):
the mainstream media, social media. The clips that you see,
you see little kids empowered to not be scared by
an officer coming up, arms flailing, kicking, screaming, and in
some instances like I gotta cuff this kid or I'm
not subduing him is not enough, I gott to co hm.

(05:08):
Well no more under the age of fourteen. Starting today,
you're prohibited no using handcuffs. The legislation actually includes some exemptions,
which is wild, including instances when law enforcement officers believe
they are absolutely positively a danger to themselves are those

(05:29):
around them? So I guess that's the very situation I
just described there. I don't know how much changes there.
And those are the top ones.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
