Speaker 1 (00:00):
New Haven Police officers responded to the seventy block of
Dickerman Street on a report of two people shot. When
officers arrived, they located the two victims suffering from multiple
gunshot wounds. Both men were unresponsive and transported by ambulance
sale New Haven Hospital. Unfortunately, both victims, to Kwan Hymen
and Ernest Williams, succumbed to their injuries. It appears, first

(00:20):
glanced at an altercation occurred between the group of men,
which then led to an argument which escalated into the shooting.
This case was assigned to Lead Detective Joseph Galvin of
the Major Crimes Unit, and on Thursday, September fourth, Detective
Galvin was able to develop probable cause to arrest the
offender in the incident, identified as Sergio Thomas five twenty

(00:40):
six eighty six of New Haven. He was taken into
custy without incident last Friday in Waterbury. He has been
charged with two counts of murder and he remains in
custoy on three thousand dollars. Bond just want to thank
everyone from the community three million excuse me, three million dollar.
Vond just like to thank everybody from the community and
the hard work of Detective Galvin and the leadership of
Lieutenant Gardner and Captain Borr for this, as well as

(01:02):
the assistant from the Waterbury Police Department.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Congratulations to all involved on the hard work on the
success as far as his case is concerned, obviously, I
support our men and women in blue. I mean, it
goes without saying although I've been playing hardball the last
day or two as far as this, ok it being
a month later since the assault in Fort Hale, and

(01:26):
it's not a slam on the police when I say
this guy can disappear. It's my knowledge that you can't
look finding a couple of guys involved in gang shooting.
You got all sorts of pictures on these guys. These
guys got records. I mean, the guy was a parole absconder.
He had a GPS bracelet that he was required to
be wearing that he took off. They know the players here.

(01:48):
When it comes to these little scumbags who come out
of the woodwork, who might have been living in New
Haven for five minutes. You know, these sexual predators who
are in the country illegally, they don't have anything on them,
you know what I mean, They don't have anything on them.
A lot of people have taken pot shots at the
U the sketch artists, which is kind of funny to

(02:10):
see because you know, aren't we all in awe of
the gig of the sketch artists And it was everybody's like,
who did that? A third grader? And I don't want
to join in on that pray, but it was. It
is not much to go on. It ain't the greatest draw.
And it's a month later. You know, these people disappear.
They seized a glock, two extended magazines. In this case,

(02:35):
these are players, these are gangs. We've got a serious
issue with gang violence in Connecticut. Yeah, Greater new Haven
if you want to stick to greater name of them,
but we got players of Waterbury, Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford.
They got their names. Their names are usually we are
the Sims Street gang cheez. Where do you think they

(02:55):
disappear to try Sims Street and just stay there. I'm
glad that this happened, but no, this doesn't make me think. Look,
this murder of an eighteen year old took place in August,
and they got their guys plural. That doesn't make me
think that this woman who is sexually assaulted with a

(03:15):
box cut or put who knows where that they're ever
going to find that guy? And my question remains, this morning,
go why can't we all put politics aside and be
in agreement the world is a crazy place right now.
We're not in agreement that it's crazy out there, all
those weirdos who want to come out and the oun
statistically speaking, this ain't no twenty twenty two, don't they

(03:43):
say in Charlotte, because now we have to go there.
Overall crime is down by eight percent. Oh, just such
a whopping figure. Should that get mentioned in the eulogy
delivered for this twenty three year old who was just
coming home after her shift at a pizza joint from
the Ukraine? You know, yeah, she got butchered and for
no reason, crime is down the round here eight percent? Like,

(04:08):
why is the story going there and not towards what
we've got The guy who sexually assaulted a woman at
Fort Hale the trail, it's a month ago today, they
got nothing. Chief Jacobson is like, we're all over that.
They got nothing, they got no name, they got a
bad pencil sketch out. They've stopped really even talking about

(04:28):
they got nothing. That guy's gone, the rash around his
mouth probably cleared up. He got nothing on him because
he can disappear. And then this story turns into a
dissertation about Lake and Riley. Last year, conservatives did successfully
use the killing of nursing student Lake and Riley by
a Venezuelan immigrant who had entered the country illegally to

(04:50):
stoke fears about immigrant crime. Okay, really quickly though, what
about Arena Zurutzka, What about the twenty three year old
on her way home? Why are you? Why am I
getting chastised? Why are we navigating this horrible story in
that way? Who is de Carlos Brown? He has a

(05:11):
history of criminal activity and mental health issues. So we're
not supposed to raise our hands and be like more
of this, because you're going to counter that with oh,
here we go again. Yeah, yeah, a little blonde girl
gets butchered on a train by a guy twice or
size with a history of criminal activity and mental health issues.

(05:33):
And he is a black man, and she was a tiny,
little white girl with blonde hair. Flip that script. I
would imagine nobody would be wondering where the coverage is
