Speaker 1 (00:05):
The Vinie Pan Project. Okay, so, as I mentioned much earlier,
actually this morning, going to the Project hotline right now,
welcoming Detective Joe to the show. I appreciate you calling
in this morning. It was the last name again, Joe,
Detective Joe, Branford Zone. How long you've been in Branford.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Too, Joe, just over twenty two years, just.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Over twenty two years. And you took over this annual
tip a cop a while ago, you were telling me yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, it would stay with probably about ten years ago.
It was kind of handed down to me.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
He begins at noon, nothing like lunch at Lenny's from
twelve to nine o'clock. All of the proceeds benefiting Special
Olympics Connecticut. I appreciate you sending me the flyer too.
I didn't realize this though. There's a couple of bands
playing too.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Oh yeah, we actually so last year we started a
couple of new things. We got at the end of
the steam Rollers to come out at night and do
like an evening session, and it was such a hit. Obviously,
anytime you have music nice summer evening, it kind of
keeps the crowd there. And so we thought like let's
see if we can get something for lunch. And so
then we had a gentleman by the named the next Bro.
(01:16):
He's obviously volunteered as time to come out and play
some music for us going lunch. Yeah, now we have
afternoon and evening music.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah. You know, I've been at this a long time
that that name's familiar to me. I say, I've certainly
read that name many times before. I believe it's very
familiar to me. So a tip a cop is you
guys are serving the food, right the wait staff has
the day off.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Oh well, no, not entirely.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Really. I always took it literally, Joe, I did. I
always took it literally, like it well, for the day.
I'm a waiter. You know, some are brave enough.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
To you know, trade their uniform into the apron and
go ahead and full serve the food and whatnot. Some
of us are not so brave about that because it's
a tough job. So we most in most cases, we
let the servers kind of serve that way, you know,
everything's handled properly as far as from the restaurant side.
And then and the officers will kind of you know,
kind of compy them, escorts them, around, talk to people,
(02:11):
maybe help them with, you know, some of the beverages
and whatnot, and a little bit of more the the
smaller past. However, we do have a couple officers that
will not be shy about grabbing the big you know,
trade tables and walking through the restaurant.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, it's probably going to be a madhouse, but Lenny's
is one of the busiest restaurants on the shoreline in
general and has been for decades. Probably gonna be a madhouse,
you know, especially with.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
The weather looking the way it is. Lunchtime is a
little bit more kind of chill, kind of easy to
get into. But after four or five o'clock, you know
you're gonna have to expect some wait times. But if
the boat bars open outside and the band's playing, well,
plenty of placed outside. We get a huge tent, throw
out the gravel area where they're raffling, a little bit
more of like seating areas, just kind of hang out,
(02:55):
and yeah, it's gonna it's gonna be a great healing Yeah,
I live.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Right up the street from there. We used to go
all the time when my kids were small. There. My
daughter loves the stuffed clams at Lenny's. Everybody's got a
favorite dish at Lenny's again. Tip a cop is at
Lenny's twelve o'clock to nine o'clock. The proceeds benefiting Special
Olympics Connecticut. You know what else too, Joe, you sent
me over the It's just it's really moving. You sent
(03:19):
me over hey, if you can't, I can't even rattle
off the list of sponsors. So many people gave to
this thing. I mean many Woodwins, Lenny's itself premiere super
I'm not surprised at all. I mean I know pretty
much all of them, but from bronze to silver, to
gold to diamond, so many people behind this. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
It has I mean again Movies first kind of took
it over ten years ago. We just felt like we
need to figure out a way to like bring it
to the next level. And with the help of like
Miles and the Commune family and my colleague golfster Harrington,
we kind of thought of a new way to kind
of see if we can get you know, businesses to
sponsor and get them the notoriety that they deserve. And
that's really created like you know, the sponsorship banners and
(04:05):
you know the websites kind of like put out uh
you know, special Olympics also, you know, sends them you know,
uh you know, letters in the mail and puts them
on their social media sites. But some of these sponsors,
you know, have come out and really gone, like, you know,
headfirst into this and just really supported us every year.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Is our pal at the package store? Uh? Is he
one of them too? You know, I've been going there
for years and I wasn't sure earlier this morning because
I was telling the story of when my uncle called
me from Patel's packet store down the street and I
wasn't certain of them. Is it the cork shop is
up to day of it?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Joe?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, yeah, Jay owns the corkshop. He's a supporter of
many of our events. He supported one of the first
coin drops we ever did, and supporter supporter of the
Typo coop as well. SI responsors, you.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Know what I mean. People are going to hit me
with look at you faking like you didn't know the
name of your packy. But I wasn't sure. I really
wasn't one hundred percent sure. Well I'll be there for lunch,
you can count on it. Straight after the show. I'm
gonna get my clamstrip on. I'm gonna bring my daughter
with me, and I love to support it. Catch some
When does the first band start playing?
Speaker 2 (05:20):
So I spoke with Nick yesterday and he's scheduled to
go on at one o'clock.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
One o'clock perfect. Sounds great to me. Detective Joe took
this thing over ten years ago, said to me yesterday,
My goal has been to make it bigger every year.
So let's all do that. How does that sound. I'll
meet you all at Lenny's Tip of Cop twelve noon.
It starts
