Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, it's another episode with mattress Mac. We're learning about
when he was a baby, to his bedding, to his blessings,
and sitting right next to Mac is Bryson, who has
been blessed.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I saw over five.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Million views the expression on your face on social media.
Can you tell us about this experience of a lifetime Bryson.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
So, me and mister.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Mackley had went to the Houston Toyota Senator see Monday Nightroanka.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm a huge fan of wrestling, so he is a
huge fan of wrestling.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
I love wrestling, and we were sitting in front row,
as you guys saw, and I was watching the OTC
who we all know, Roman reigns and it was really
cool and he got down and I lost my mind.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
It was really crazy.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
He came in and went right over to you. How
did how did that? I mean, were you even expecting that?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Did Mac say, Hey, Bryson, look who's coming over to you?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I didn't. I didn't.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
I didn't think he was gonna like, you know, he's
been gone for a while, but I didn't think he
was going to come over it. I was like, Okay,
he's going to walk right back through that and when
he came I lost.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
It was really crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Now, Mac, that expression is that on your website? So
I can make sure I get a caption of that
picture of Bryson with his face just like in a
state of shock.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
That's on our website. It's in World Wrestling Entertainment, right.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Well, Bryson, I wanted you to be a part of
this this podcast because I want to still focus. I
think it's super important for kids to learn about the
childhoods of very successful people so you can learn things,
maybe imitate, maybe improve, maybe you know, go what is
it about Mattress Mac that makes him who he is today?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
And it was.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Funny because this morning on the radio we were talking
about road trips with our families. Now, I don't know, Bryson,
if you've ever been on a road trip. I don't
know if Mattress Mac's ever been on a road trip,
But if you have, you coming from a huge family, Mac,
can you recall, as we've read up summer in Houston,
a road trip with your family that might have been
(02:05):
really good or really bad, but definitely life changing.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
I remember when we myself and my older brother, yours,
my two sisters, Julian, Mary and my younger sister Angela,
and my parents.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
We went to Pike Speaking, Colorado.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
That was a memorable, very scenic place and it was
a long drive in the car, but we had a
good time and I still cherished those memories.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
So in the car, Mom's the one who's organizing everything.
What were the snacks that you guys brought along? Very
important topic for kids.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Probably being a better and jelly, as I recall.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Because we learned this morning, maybe apples beef jerky was
a really good right beef jerky to.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Take on a road trip.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Did you guys argue? And what was the seating arrangement
in the car?
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I think my.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Parents were in the front two seats and probably h
three of us it was a station wagon probably, and
three of us in the mess out, my brother George
and one of my.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Sisters in the middle, and the sisters and relegating to
the back.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
To the back we were the oldest, So that's that's
how it was. I'm sure there was a lot of
arguing going on and uh ten thousand times asking when.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
We're going to be there exactly?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
And was Dad the type of driver who would turn
around and slap you if you guys were getting out
of control.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Oh that was that was my mother's role, so you did.
She was a German and she had no problem with
something like that.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I mean putting all you kids in the car and
I don't know, but I remember a time when there
were no seat belts required when I was a little girl,
and we were able to lie down in the back
of the station wagon no seat belts.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Oh yeah, that's how we traveled back then, on.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
The dashboard right by the windshield.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
So when you got to these locations, what was it
like you guys set up in a hotel?
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Was it super luxurious? Was it super cheap?
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Did you guys just do it on a budget? What
was it like traveling with the Mattress Max family.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I think it was on a budget, and I think
we had a nice probably couple of.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Rooms and my mother ran on the.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Roofs and it was pretty relegated. Got it from breakfast,
went to church every Sunday, and whether we were on
vacation or not, that was the game plan.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
That was great. It was very.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Regimented and we had a tremendous time up.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
There in calib our screens. I remember it like was yesterday,
and it was what fifty some odd years ago?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Amazing? Was this an annual summer.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Thing or many years ago?
Speaker 5 (04:40):
Pretty well, once we started playing baseball, we didn't do
that sort of thing, so it was probably up to
a time we were five.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Six seven, Yeah, exactly. And talk about let's talk about
the food we always kids.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I don't know, Bryson, if you are love your particular snacks, Like,
do you have your favorite chips? I know these super
hot chips are trending these days. What would be your
favorite treat of all time?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
On a road?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
That's what's trending now, Mac, do you even know what
that is?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yes, and it's got terrible stuff. Exactly. He's going to
get rid of the red die I know.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
I know.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Hopefully he won't change the flavor, but he's definitely going
to get rid of the red dive. Matt, What about you,
what were your favorite childhood treats When you were a
little kid, you'd sit down, maybe watch a movie with
the family.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
What was your go to back then?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I love jelly beans, remember the Ronald Reagan jelly beans?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Exactly? Exactly, Now what about you as a.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Dad taking your kids on road trips. Any memorable road
trips that you did with your kids.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, we went on a road trip one time.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
I had a speech in England, so we all went
over to Europe for several days.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
That was wild and wooly, So we went by a
train up.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
To the place where I did the speech, and the kids.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Had a good time in London, Paris, those type of places.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
So you flew to London, Yeah, got on a train,
went to your speech.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
How did you keep the kids was it? Was it Linda,
your wife to be in the mom hurting all the kids.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Kept raining on all the kids, and we had a
good time as a good memory. Didn't go on as
many trips as we should have because I worked too much,
but that was that was one I really remember very.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Finely, because that's what I'm trying to do.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I mean, so many times time passes and we didn't
take all the trips that we keep dreaming about with
our kids. So I thought if we could kind of
share some of the trips that you took and how
important they were to you and your family. What was
your speech about when you did take the kids to
London and did they get to watch you speak?
Speaker 5 (06:53):
It was about doctor dimming and quality control and all
that sort of stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
We did a lot of things with him. He was alive,
so it was they didn't go to the speech because
it was kind of a.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Bit intellectual, you know, a.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Thirty year old plus deal.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
But but they had a good time playing while while
I was gone. They always love to go to the
swimming pools and the hotels.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
That sort of thing.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
And I want to ask you about you're seeing the
fun side of Mattress Mac. He says that he always works,
but do you see that he's really just a fun guy?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Are you experiencing that?
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, how are you seeing that? In what ways? Does
Mac have the fun side?
Speaker 4 (07:35):
He's really fun most of the time, Like we went
to the wrestling show, we had a lot of fun.
But the other day we were standing up at the
desk and his ring toeing like when he called back
the customers is like yeah, yeah, then every so often
we'll start dancing to it.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
But Mac is really fun.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
And do you see qualities of Mac as a dad
when he interacts with his kids? Now, I know his
kids are grown, but what do you see that made
you really pick up and think, you know what, that's
a great dad.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I wish I had that in my life.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
You can tell Mack he's kind of a hard shell,
but he's really soft and I could.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
I know he is.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I know he is.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
And So if you were to take a trip with
Mac other than wrestling at the Toyota Center, what would
be your dream trip with Mattress Mac?
Speaker 2 (08:24):
And why? A dream trip anywhere in the world.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Probably just going to Austin and stopping at BUCkies, because
I know he loves the BUCkies.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I love BUCkies.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Well see now, now we've got a WrestleMania.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Oh yeah, WrestleMania Vegas.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
In New Jersey.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
And it's never too late for that kind of stuff, right,
you can start making your plans now to do something
like that.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
What do you get when you go to BUCkies?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I love the beef jerky and the cherry balls.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
And what about those Bucky He doesn't Bucky have those
Bucky nuggets? That are the beaver nuggets that are absolutely
addictive and.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Terrible for you? Right, Mac, You're not doing that. I
know you're a healthy eater.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Now, oh buck you I'm problem with Semon Roles.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
I'm afraid to say it's unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
BUCkies has too many temptations for me.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Bucky's is a cool establishment. And you know they're known
for the cleanest restrooms in the world. And do you
know they did a study that found women And this
is important for your business, Mac. We will bypass one
of our favorite places if there's a better bathroom at
another place.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Right, bathrooms are key, they really are key, and you
have beautiful things. Hey, I also want to mention I
noticed some supplies out front.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Tell us what you're doing. Is this for the recovery
effort in our friends in the Hill country.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Yeah, we've had we're talking about ten truck cluds of
supplies over to the hill country and we've had a
group of six people over there bucking out houses since
about the fourth day after the event happened. So I've
got a lake house right there in Lago Vista, and
everybody kind of camps there and they get up at
seven in the morning, go work till seven at night
(10:12):
cleaning out people's homes. And that flooding was so terrific, biblical,
it was so widespread. You know, obviously the epicenter was Curveville,
but as far away as one hundred miles. There's all
sorts of damage and so the effort we're going to
tent for the next ten years trying to helpless people rebuild.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
And now we're doing a deal with you buy a
mattress with a purpose.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
You buy a mattress at temper PEEDIEK Simmons, Mattress would
give a free mattress to a person who got flooded
out in the hill country. So the news cycle coming goes,
but the pain and the trauma for those people goes
on continues.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Well, I knew you were up to something, so I
just want to make sure our listeners got an idea
of what was going on, and you can come on
out to Gallery Furniture and find out more.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
And I want to.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Continue delving into some of the little intricacies in the
life of Mattress Mac very interesting. We learn a lot
and we just want to emulate you because that philanthropic spirit.
We always want to know where did that come from?
And I think we're getting to learn a lot. Your
mom obviously a big deal and I love huge dealing.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
She also fel taught me philanthropic spirit, but also work ethics.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Though I'm trying to impart that to these young people here.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Well, I think you're doing a great job, and thank
you guys so much. I know you're busy and you
want to get back to work, but thanks for spending
some time with us.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
We certainly love you and appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Thanks Dan,
